After replacing my Continental 255/45 r20 105V tires with the Mich Lat 245/60 105v ones on my 2022 Santa Fe Calligraphy, I was expecting a smoother ride. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case; even after having them balanced five times – including one Road Force balance- and driving at 70mph, there’s still road feel as well as excessive noise present in this experience.

With only 400 miles on its odometer, it shouldn’t be causing these issues! After 2500 miles of ownership underwhelming performance from Michelin tires – which have been an integral part of all cars owned since 1965 by me- has left me unhappy. Disappointingly enough despite taking several measures to improve smoothness such proved fruitless for my 2025 Sante Fe Calllgraphy journey !

The Michelon 245 / 60R105 V ,newly installed seemed less than satisfactory : upon reaching high speeds(70 mph) noisy roads were experienced instead alongwith surprises jolts . This is especially unexpected due to mere 400 Miles clocked so far & long term loyalty towards quality Michellin tyres since decades now

Having said that, like other tire makers, Michelin also has its fair share of dodgy models over the years. These were tires that didn’t do what they claim to do, and so their manufacturer had no choice but to recall them to save its reputation.

What do all the above-mentioned features mean in real terms? Do they make their presence felt in real-life conditions? To have a foolproof answer to these questions, we took the Michelin Latitude Tour on a test drive.

Treadwear and Durability

Of all the Michelin tires we have taken out for a test drive, only a few of them come close to rivaling the 105,000 km treadwear warranty of the Latitude Tour. This gives us a glimpse of how much trust Michelin reposes in the durability of this tire.

Unfortunately, the confidence is misplaced.  Like other users who have used it before, we are adamant that this tire’s treadwear could be better. And we aren’t saying it after ignoring other factors which might affect tread life, like your driving style, the roads you drive on, and how well you maintain the tire.

Instead, for the one month that we carried this tire through county roads, we made sure that nothing from our side could give it an excuse to justify its treadwear. Still, as our experts concluded at the end of the testing period, the tread life of the Latitude Tour could be definitely better.

Dry Performance

Although we were disappointed at this model’s less-than-stellar treadlife, its dry performance lifted our spirits. Our main focus was on checking this tire’s fuel efficiency as Michelin claims that the presence of Green X technology helps this tire decrease your vehicle’s fuel consumption.

Michelin is right on this count. Compared to our previous rides with other tires, this tire consumed 3% less fuel on a 1000mile trip. You might not think too high considering that it’s ‘only’ three percent but extrapolate it to this model’s shelf life, and the fuel savings start to sound way more significant.

As well as offering fuel economy, this tire offered extreme traction on dry roads and performed brilliantly when we were cornering or applying abrupt brakes to test its mettle. That means that if you drive on highways most of the time, you cannot go wrong with the Latitude Tour.

Wet Performance

There are two factors that help us differentiate tires who are made for wet roads from those who aren’t. First, average tires don’t have much gripping power, and so they skid on wet roads. Second, their capacity to channel water and prevent hydroplaning is, well, average.

Luckily, the Latitude Tour performed decently on both these counts. Thanks to its very wide tread widths, it encountered no problems when rolling on roads which had received heavy showers only a few minutes earlier and provided excellent grip.

Equally impressive was its performance under the rain. We deliberately maintained a higher-than-average speed to check whether it showed any signs of slippage – there were none. If anything, these tires’ performance on wet roads isn’t any different from how they roll on dry surfaces.

Noise and Comfort

Michelin is one of the few tire manufacturers who provide its models with dedicated technologies to fend off road vibrations and noise. It has equipped the Latitude Tour with Comfort Control Technology which, thanks to its computer-optimized tread design, fights road vibrations.

Hence the reason why none of the four passengers in our vehicle complained about vibrations during the journey. Similar was the case with road noise. Our journey mostly consisted of country roads, and apart from the loud honking of horns, there was nothing to wake one of our sleepy co-passengers up.

Snow Performance

As we were traveling on light snow, the Latitude Tour didn’t leave much to be desired. The moment ice became hard, however, the performance of this tire immediately made us aware that while good on light snow, it isn’t a dedicated winter tire.

Wondering why that’s the case? Remember its wide tread widths which increase this model’s traction on dry and wet roads? They are the culprits here. Their extremely wide size restricts the level of grip the Latitude Tour can provide on deeper snow.

To summarize, the Latitude Tour tires would perform well in areas with moderate winter conditions. However, the moment the snow becomes thick, you’d need to take out some real-winter tires (with flexible rubber compounds) to run an errand.

The Michelin Latitude Tour is an all-season tire that aims to provide the best of both worlds to its users. Its Max Touch Construction, Green X Technology, and Comfort Control Technology help this tire boast a superior performance on both dry and wet roads, as well as in mild winter conditions. That said, this tire could have done better as far as its treadwear is concerned.

The Michelins that came on our 2020 Ford Edge have 36,000 miles on them and our Ford tire guy says they have 3mm left on the tread depth and need to be replaced. We agree with you on all points in this article, including that this tire’s tread wear is a con. We hope Michelin will stand behind their 65,000 mile warranty.

We agree with you evaluation for the michelin lattitude tire except for the mileage. We drive a 2017 Equinox with 63,580 miles on the original michelin lattitude tires and are not quite down to the tread wear bars yet. Very happy with these tires.

Michelin continues to praise the wet traction of the tire – the Latitude Tour stops 5% shorter in rainy conditions than the predecessor. That’s not a lot but bear in mind that the French company almost always provides the best results in wet conditions.

To achieve these things, Michelin utilized its tried-and-true Total Performance technology. The French company claims that it focuses on the entire life of the tire. “All our tires have performance made to LAST, delivering, by design, an exceptional level of long-lasting performance,” the company states on its website.

Moreover, the Michelin Total Performance technology means that the engineers try to improve things in one area, without sacrificing performance in other areas.

Like in most premium tires, Michelin utilized a silica-based tread compound. The rubber is molded into a symmetric tread pattern, and both the tread compound and design are optimized for longevity and durability. Michelin calls that MaxTouch Construction, and what it means is that the tire should perform well throughout its entire lifetime.

The tread pattern itself consists of stable shoulder blocks and a continuous center rib for increased responsiveness and highway stability. Furthermore, the Latitude Tour features four wide circumferential grooves, which channel water through multiple sipes in the outboard shoulders for increased hydroplaning resistance. The sipes also help to create more biting edges for better snow traction.

Meanwhile, the Michelin Comfort Control Technology ensures that the tire provides the passengers with a comfortable and quiet traveling experience. More accurately, the technology features a computer-optimized design and precision manufacturing to reduce the vibrations entering the cabin, and mitigate road noise.

That said, the Latitude Tour is also the most expensive tire in its category. And, for the price, you can get even better treadlife in the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza Plus (an 80,000-mile treadwear warranty), and Continental CrossContact LX25 (a 70,000-mile treadwear warranty).

How does it behave on a dry tarmac?

Michelin Latitude Tour Review

Overall, the Latitude Tour performs very well on dry roads. The tire feels responsive enough for accurate positioning of your vehicle in the corners. Also, the directional stability is top-notch, even at highway speeds.

In terms of grip levels, the Michelin Latitude Tour is in the upper echelon of the class. If you want it more honestly, the cornering grip is very good, but I expected more for the price. It’s the same with traction and braking, which are fine, but far from exceptional.

These are things that you probably won’t be able to test on public roads. The differences between the best tires and the Latitude Tour are nearly imperceptible in daily driving.

How is it over wet and slippery roads?

The Latitude Tour is one of the better touring tires for driving on rainy days. The hydroplaning resistance of the tire is top-notch, and the traction levels are excellent.

Moreover, the tire achieves some of the shortest braking distances in the category, both in light and heavy rain. And, thanks to the Total Performance package, the Latitude Tour retains the safe traction after it wears down.

With that being said, how is it on snowy roads?

Michelin employed zig-zag sipes on the inner and outer tread blocks of the tire, which in theory should give the Latitude Tour excellent snow traction.

However, in the real world, the tire is far from usable in those conditions. You can get some traction on snow, but other premium competitors fare much better. It’s the same with braking – the distances are longer than the best in the category.

Is it suitable for off-road driving?

The Latitude Tour is a touring tire, which means that it’s designed mostly for driving on paved roads. Sure, you can utilize the tire over hardpacked surfaces, but don’t expect high levels of grip. Moreover, the Latitude Tour doesn’t have a tough casing that will protect it from cuts and punctures.

Is it comfortable and refined?

Not that we expected anything less from a Michelin product, but the Latitude Tour is supremely quiet and comfortable. The ride quality is particularly impressive – the tire easily works out smaller and larger imperfections on the road. Also, road noise is minimal, even at highway speeds.

Should I buy the Michelin Latitude Tour?

The Michelin Latitude Tour is an excellent touring tire for owners of crossovers and SUVs. Overall, it provides the driver with safe traction on dry and wet surfaces, good treadlife, and outstanding comfort.

However, the price of the Latitude Tour is exceptionally high, even when compared to other premium tires. And, it’s here that the tire loses against its stiff competition.

For example, the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza Plus and Continental CrossContact LX25 beat the Michelin Latitude Tour in many categories, while also having higher treadwear warranties. And, they are cheaper, too.

For those reasons, I would recommend the Michelin Latitude Tour only if you get a good deal. Otherwise, you can save over $100 on some sizes if you opt for products from the main competitors.

Tire names are never easy to understand, but Michelin didn’t make it any easier with the HP and non-HP version of the Latitude Tour.

Essentially the HP model is built for modern crossovers and is designed to excel in several of the areas that drivers of those vehicles are looking for – though not in all of the as we’ll see.

The three areas where the Tour HP really stands out are braking, comfort and fuel economy.

Handling is not one of this tire’s strong suits, at least not in the traditional sense of dry weather grip. Instead it’s built for better performance in wet and snowy conditions (although we should point out that this is not a certified snow tire). In the wet, the tire’s 2D sipes lock together to give the tread greater tread structure. In fact, Michelin brags the tire has better rain and snow performance than its three leading competitors (Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza, Continental 4×4 Contact, and Pirelli Scorpion STR) according to a third-party test.

Helping give your crossover a steady highway ride, the tire gets its stability from a makeup of polyester and aramid/nylon in the casing. Aramid, it should be pointed out, is the same material used in bullet proof vests.

Finally, there’s fuel economy. Michelin uses a proprietary mix of tread design and tire compound to reduce friction with the road and improve fuel economy.

It’s important to note the differences between the Tour and Tour HP to avoid confusion, because many of the standard Tour model’s features aren’t more impressive than the HP version. The Tour tire, which is designed for cars, gets an even higher milage warranty of 65,000 miles and more impressive fuel economy savings, which Michelin estimates could result in as much as 82 gallons of fuel saved over the life of the tire.

Delivering impressive fuel economy and solid life, Michelin makes numerous fitments for brands like Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi and Land Rover. It’s somewhat lacking in the dry-weather performance these brands position themselves in, in the SUV segment, but it more than makes up for that small drawback in wet weather grip.

A premium tire intended for premium vehicles the Michelin Latitude Tour HP is priced from $177 per tire.

Michelin Latitude Tour HP Warranty

Depending on the speed rating, the Latitude Tour HP comes with a vastly different mileage warranty. H-speed rated versions of the tire come with the least impressive warranty at 30,000 miles. Moving up, W-rated tires get a 45,000 mile warranty and V-rated tires get a 55,000 mile warranty.

In addition, all versions come with a limited warranty that covers workmanship and materials for 6 years from the date of purchase – for the life of the usable tread.

Are Michelin Latitude Tour HP Tires Good in Snow?

The Michelin Latitude Tour HP is an all-season tire with light winter capability. While it does have the M+S marking on the tire indicating it’s good for use in mud and snow, it does not feature the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake logo on the sidewall, which would indicate it has been certified for extreme winter use by both the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) and the Rubber Association of Canada (RAC).

So while we do recommend proper winter tires for northern climates, this tire is above average when it comes to winter capability. Designed to meet the needs of utility vehicles, it naturally has more edges to grip in winter weather, plus it features heavy siping to help grab the snow.
