Me and my sister really enjoyed our trip to cotswold with Muslim History tours. We explored hidden gems as well as insightful information from the tour guide Abdul-Maalik! Its a totally different experience when you go by coach and travel with such a lovely group of people! Would do it all over again!
Really great experience and extremely informative... Everyone had a good time and learnt a lot. Memories that can be kept for years ☺️
Such an amazing trip. The food was great and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. Will definitely come for other events and tours
We had such a great lunch cruise ( before the dreaded lockdown) that we have booked the night cruise!
What a wonderful bus tour with delicious afternoon tea served! AbdulMaalik Tailor was our professional Muslim tour guide who entertained us as we munched and sipped on the delicious sandwiches, cakes, and variety of teas! We got to see the most iconic places and learnt about the hidden Muslim gems in the heart of London. I definitely look forward to attending more tours with ‘Halal Tourism Britain’. Highly recommend!

5D4N Muslim-Friendly Family Itinerary to Vietnam
Noor Aishah Karim • Oct 18, 2023
If you’re looking for adventure, cheap food and friendly people for a getaway, Vietnam might be the perfect holiday destination. We've got the perfect 5-day Muslim-friendly itinerary through Vietnam and its cities of Hanoi and Sapa, contributed by Nur Diana. She took a family vacation with her husband, parents and sibling and here’s what they did!
Day 1: Traveling to Sapa
- Take a flight to Hanoi and then switch to a minivan to travel to Sapa
P.S. Diana took a direct flight from Singapore to Hanoi on SQ, we checked and the prices start from SG$227!
- To ensure comfort and space, book a 9-seater luxury minivan just like what Diana did for her family of 6
- Diana notes that her family does not like tour groups and would often plan their trip by themselves
Stay at the KK Sapa Hotel for your two nights at Sapa!
Day 2: Sapa
- Travel to Fansipan Mountain for amazing views ?
- Book your trip to the mountain through Klook, and it will be hassle-free, all you would need to do is to show the travel operators your QR code, and it is all set!
- from Sapa station to Fansipan station
- To get across the valley
- The trip up the gondola allows you to be amongst the clouds, and its visibility would be low!
- The weather may get super windy and wet, so it’s advisable to wear a slightly thicker sweater or jacket. At the summit, there are Asean flags (except Singapore) which visitors can use as props.
- After visiting Fansipan Mountain, explore the nearby Cat Cat Village
- A picturesque and charming destination nestled in the mountains of Vietnam. Located in the Hoang Lien Son range, near the famous town of Sapa, Cat Cat Village offers a unique and authentic experience for travellers seeking to immerse themselves in traditional local culture.
- The name "Cat Cat" is believed to have originated from the local ethnic minority groups who inhabit the village, particularly the Hmong people.
- In the Hmong language, the word "cat" means "cascade" or "waterfall," and the word "Cat Cat" translates to "waterfall cascade." The village is known for its scenic beauty, characterised by pictures
Halal Food At Sapa
- There are limited halal options available in Sapa, and Sapa Halal Restaurant and D’Lion are some of the few halal restaurants there!
- Diana’s tip: Bring instant noodles with you in the event you can’t get to the halal restaurants.
Photo credit: Nur Diana [ That is a Nasi Ambang!! ? ]
HHWT Tip: It would be better to download google translate to communicate with the locals as there may be a language barrier. Diana expressed how she once ordered 4 drinks and ended up with 8!
P.S. We asked Diana for her thoughts on Sapa and here’s what she thought:
- A beautiful place with an ever-changing landscape. It is an untouched beauty.
- An ongoing development around Sapa town but not so extensive.
- Worth the 5 hours trip from Singapore!
Day 3: Commute to Hanoi
- To ensure comfort and space, especially when travelling with family for 5 hours, book a 9-seater luxury minivan to get to Hanoi!
After you’ve arrived, rest at Bespoke Trendy Hotel Hanoi , before heading out to the old quarter of Hanoi
Old Quater of Hanoi
- Located near Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter dates back over a thousand years and has been the commercial hub of Hanoi since ancient times.
- Each street in this labyrinthine district is named after the goods traditionally sold there, such as Silk Street, Shoe Street, and Silver Street.
- The area is known for its traditional "tube houses," narrow buildings with small storefronts that extend deep into the block.
- For dinner, head over to this halal restaurant at Cosia Hotel!
- Halal status: Halal-certified
Then head on to this Al-Noor Mosque in Hanoi!
P.S. If you’re looking for halal food in Hanoi, there are quite several halal restaurants that you can try. Most of it is in the old quarters where the mosque is, and these eateries serve Malay, Indian cuisine and more! The local halal Vietnamese food is usually out of stock or no longer served so go early to catch a taste of the local flavor!
Day 4: Halong Bay Day Tour!
- Book a day trip to Halong Bay in Singapore through a Vietnamese agent or Klook . Your agent would pick you up from our hotel and the travel time is 2 hours.
- Head on to the pearl factory before going to the pier. At the pier, you will then take a boat and sail out into the bay.
- There will be 3 pit stops for you to do some activities. The time given was only 40mins per station.
- The first stop was Titov Island, where you can swim or trek up a small hill.
- The second stop was kayaking or boat ride.
- If you choose Kayaing, you are up for a fun experience and will even come across majestic ‘stones’ up close.
- P.S. Diana describes this as one of the highlights of her trip!
Halal Food on Halong Bay
- For Halong Bay, food is part of the package, and no outside food is allowed.
- However, you can request vegetarian food, and the tour operators will ask you if you can eat seafood as they only serve seafood except for the fried eggs, which are cooked using vegetable oil.
Day 5: Hanoi → SG
Home sweet home!
If you’re planning to go to Vietnam and planning your trip, here’s Diana’s advice:
- Get a travel agent if you’re not a DIY traveller, as it may be a hassle, especially the pre-prep before heading for the trip. But if you prefer to be with your family and plan your own time and activities at your own pace, you should travel free and easily in Vietnam!
- Be careful of transport scams! Diana was scammed by the taxi driver inSapa where she paid$32 for a ride, and Sapa town is just a small town! But that’s how we learn, after all, it’s just part and parcel of travelling!
- Travelling on your own allows you to uncover new places, and you can manage costs according to your budget since you pick your hotel and transportation!
- As with travelling, don’t forget to do thorough research and be prepared for food, snacks, medication and more!
We hope this DIY Itinerary will inspire you to travel and explore the world and is helpful if you were to travel a trip to Sapa and Hanoi! Diana describes the trip as a wonderful and memorable trip, and we hope you would too if you follow this itinerary for your upcoming trip!

Moscow Cathedral Mosque
The History
The architecture and interior of the mosque
The museum of Islam
Visitor Tips
- The mosque can be easily accessed via the metro. Just take Koltsevaya line 5 (brown) and stop at Prospekt Mira station and walk towards the stadium. It’ll take you about 5 -7 min to walk.
- Men and women use separate doors to enter. You’ll need to take off your shoes. Women have to put on a robe with a hood that is offered for free. You'll leave your coats and shoes in a cloakroom.
- You may visit the mosque on your own or book a tour. We think that a tour of the Moscow cathedral Moscow will be interesting not only for Muslims but for any visitor of Moscow. The visit will give you a chance to explore amazing interiors and learn the history of Islamic culture in Russia. We may include the visit in any of your Moscow trips .
- If you book a tour the guide can accompany you on a roof-top panoramic platform which gives you a chance to see the building from a different perspective.
- You may find several halal cafes in the area.

A Muslim-friendly guide to Moscow, Russia
In Travel Guide by Dina Dzhunskalieva May 2, 2020
A Muslim-friendly guide to Moscow
Moscow, the capital of Russia and home to an estimated 12 million people, may not be the obvious Muslim-friendly destination. However, the Muslim community in Russia grows year by year – various estimates place the current Muslim population in Russia at between 14 million and 20 million people. With this growth in the local Muslim population, the Russian capital is becoming increasingly Muslim-friendly. The proof? A rising number of Muslim-friendly cafes and restaurants, prayer facilities and festive Muslim events.
Of course, no visit to Moscow is complete without a visit to the Kremlin, Red Square and St.Basil’s Cathedral. But how Muslim-friendly is Russia’s capital?
Here’s your Muslim-friendly guide to visiting this incredible city by local moskvichka , Dina Dzhunskalieva.
Muslim-friendly experiences in Moscow
1. pray in one of the biggest mosques in europe.
The streets surrounding Moscow Cathedral Mosque fill with worshippers during Eid, despite the mosque’s 10 000 person capacity. Photo: AFP
The origins of Moscow Cathedral Mosque can be traced to 1904, but it was demolished and completely reconstructed in 2015. During the period of the Soviet Union, Moscow Cathedral Mosque was the only one in the city that remained open for Muslims to worship in. In September 2015 President Putin himself presided over the mosque’s inauguration ceremony, together with President Erdogan (Turkey) and President Mahmoud Abbas (Palestinian Authority). The impressive architecture features 72m-high minarets and a central dome decorated with no less than 12 kg of gold leaf, which looks especially beautiful on a sunny day, shining in all of its glory. The new mosque can hold an estimated 10 000 worshippers, which is much needed in Moscow. During major celebrations such as Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha, it’s estimated that 100 000 Muslims gather outside the central mosque alone, filling the streets with worshippers offerring their Eid prayers.
Top Tip: Do not miss the opportunity to visit the small museum at the mosque, which has a number of historical artefacts from the Muslim world!
2. Try delicious authentic cuisine from Central Asia and the Caucasus at halal eateries
Moscow is a hub for ethnicities from all over Russia and post-Soviet republics. Every ethnicity has its national cuisine and with seven of Russia’s 22 republics being Muslim-majority populations, there is a sumptuous variety of halal local food on offer.
There are more and more halal cafes and restaurants opening in Moscow, and here are my personal top 3 recommendations that any foodie should not miss:
- “Chaihona Aiva”
An Uzbek restaurant with a great range of the main Central Asian dishes: plov, manty, samsa and more. Reasonable prices make this place even more attractive for tourists, as for locals.
Beautiful interiors compliment the hearty Uzbek cuisine at Chaihona Aiva. Photo: Chaihona Aiva/TripAdvisor
Great spot if you want to try Caucasus cuisine without going to the Caucasus region itself. Home style chudu (crispy puff pastry with various fillings), Dagestani hinkal (dough-like dish served with garlic sauce and meat) and many more to enjoy.

Chinese cuisine, mainly represented by lamian – Lanzhou-style noodles. Tastes very close to Turkic laghman and very cheap, although the portions are huge. Also try the steamed bun and selection of various teas.

2. Experience Ramadan in a tent
Ramadan tents have been a feature of Ramadan in Moscow since at least 2003. Photo: Caucasian Knot
The Ramadan tent in Moscow offers iftar dinners and festive Ramadan activities for locals and Muslims who live in the city. On average, it hosts more than 500 guests every night. The budget organization of Iftars and entertainment programme come from Muslims themselves, first of all from the republics and communities which hold thematic evenings during Ramadan.
3. Listen to the most beautiful Quran recitation
The Moscow international Quran competition has taken place annually since 2000. Photo: VoiceofglobalUmmah.blogspot
Every year in Moscow, competitors from around the world gather to take part in an annual international Qur’an recitation competition. This year is the 20th Moscow Quran Reciting Competition, which was scheduled for 19th of April but has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This competition sees representatives from a number of Muslim states including Iran, Turkey, Malaysia and Qatar as well as the Muslim-majority republics of Tatarstan, Dagestan and other regions.

Muslims around the world were celebrating the Eid al-Fitr holiday, marking the end of the Islamic holy month with prayers, family reunions, and sweet treats. ISTANBUL (AP) — Muslims around the world celebrated the Eid al-Fitr holiday Wednesday, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. But events were overshadowed by the worsening crisis in Gaza and Israel’s expected military offensive in Rafah city after six months of war.
“We should not forget our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” one imam, Abdulrahman Musa, said in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi. “They have been subjected to unjustified aggression and a lot of violence (as) the world is watching in silence.”
In a holiday message, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent support to Gaza, which he called a “bleeding wound on the conscience of humanity.”
In Istanbul, some of the thousands of worshipers at the Aya Sofya Mosque carried Palestinian flags and chanted slogans in support of residents of Gaza, where the United Nations warns that more than a million people are at threat of imminent famine and little aid is allowed in.
Inside Gaza, there was little joy. Palestinians in the refugee camp of Jabaliya near Gaza City mourned loved ones among the over 33,000 killed in Israel’s offensive in response to Hamas’s deadly Oct. 7 attack in Israel.
Om Nidal Abu Omeira sat alone among bombed-out buildings and wept on the grave of her mother, son-in-law, and grandson. All were killed in Israel’s offensive.
“They (the children) keep saying, ‘I miss my father, where is he?’ I tell them that he’s in heaven,” she told The Associated Press. “They start crying, and then I start crying with them.”
Elsewhere, people were grateful for the plenty they had after a month of fasting and reflection. Before the holiday, markets around the world teemed with shoppers. Residents poured out of cities to return to villages to celebrate with loved ones.
In Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, nearly three-quarters of the population were traveling for the annual homecoming known locally as “mudik.”
“This is a right moment to reconnect, like recharging energy that has been drained almost a year away from home,” said civil servant Ridho Alfian.
Jakarta’s Istiqlal Grand Mosque, the largest in Southeast Asia, was flooded with devotees. Preachers in their sermons called on people to pray for Muslims in Gaza.
“This is the time for Muslims and non-Muslims to show humanitarian solidarity, because the conflict in Gaza is not a religious war, but a humanitarian problem,” said Jimly Asshiddiqie, who chairs the advisory board of the Indonesian Mosque Council.
In Berlin, worshipers reflected the world, coming from Benin, Ghana, Syria, Afghanistan and Turkey.
“It’s a day where we feel grateful for everything we have here, and think and give to those who are poor, facing war and have to go hungry,” said Azhra Ahmad, a 45-year-old mother of five.
In Pakistan , authorities deployed more than 100,000 police and paramilitary forces to maintain security at mosques and marketplaces.
In Malaysia, ethnic Malay Muslims performed morning prayers at mosques nationwide just weeks after socks printed with the word “Allah” at a convenience store chain sparked a furor. Many found it offensive.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called for unity and reconciliation, saying no groups should be sidelined based on religion or any other reason.
In Russia, worshipers gathered as their leaders vowed loyalty to fellow citizens amid tensions following last month’s attack by an extremist group on a music hall outside Moscow in which 130 people were killed. The Islamic State group’s Afghanistan affiliate claimed responsibility.
“As our country’s president, Vladimir Putin, said, terrorism has neither a nationality nor a religion, the chairman of the Council of Muftis in Russia said. “We call to unite against the threat, against those dark forces.”

Millions of Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr
Festivities to mark the end of ramadan were overshadowed by the six-month war in gaza..
Muslims around the world have celebrated Eid al-Fitr, the festival marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, with prayer, reunions with family and friends, new clothes and sweet treats.
But the celebrations on Wednesday were overshadowed by the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and Israel’s threatened ground offensive in the southernmost city of Rafah with no let-up in the six-month war.
In Istanbul, thousands of worshippers gathered at the Hagia Sofia mosque for morning Eid prayers, some carrying Palestinian flags and chanting slogans in support of people in Gaza.
In his holiday message, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed support for Gaza, which he called a “bleeding wound on the conscience of humanity”.
“I hope that the Eid will lead to peace, tranquillity and wellbeing for our country, our nation, the Islamic world and all humanity,” he said.
The war in Gaza was also the focus of prayers at the Rahma mosque in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
“We should not forget our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” Imam Abdulrahman Musa said. “They have been subjected to unjustified aggression and a lot of violence (as) the world is watching in silence.”
In Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, people joined communal prayers shoulder to shoulder on the streets and inside mosques. Jakarta’s Istiqlal Grand Mosque, the largest in Southeast Asia, was flooded with devotees offering morning prayers.
“This is the time for Muslims and non-Muslims to show humanitarian solidarity, because the conflict in Gaza is not a religious war, but a humanitarian problem,” said Jimly Asshiddiqie, who chairs the advisory board of the Indonesian Mosque Council.
Authorities in Pakistan deployed more than 100,000 police and paramilitary forces to maintain security at mosques and in markets.
As ethnic Malay Muslims performed prayers at mosques across Malaysia, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called for unity and reconciliation in his message on the eve of Eid, saying no groups should be sidelined based on religion or any other reason.
“We must be firm, resolute and unwavering in our commitment to foster values and build a dignified nation,” he said. “However, let us not take this as a licence or opportunity to insult, undermine, or damage the cultural practices and way of life of others.”
