Noel Gallagher set to play Brighton Beach

It has just been announced that British rock royalty, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds , will be playing a headline show on Brighton Beach on Sunday 30th July. They will be closing the 2023 ‘ On The Beach ’ summer series in style.

A trailblazing staple of British rock – starting all the way back when Oasis first made an irreversible dent in global music back in the early ‘90s – Noel Gallagher has spent his three-plus decade career cementing himself as a historic singer-songwriter, continuously building on an inimitable catalogue of anthems, chart-toppers and ballads. Along with his High Flying Birds, Noel’s universally reaching lyrics have found him performing in the world’s biggest venues, headlining shows in over 30 countries.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will be joined on the Brighton Beach bill by three more acts ubiquitous with great British rock songwriting; The Vaccines , who have gone from strength to strength since their smash debut ‘If You Wanna’ first hit our radios; The Coral , whose timely classics ‘Dreaming Of You’ and ‘In The Morning’ still stand tall amongst the band’s contemporary work; and Gaz Coombes , whose solo career has seen him expand his sonic palette into broader and bolder territories beyond his work as frontman of Supergrass.

This is set to be a suitably epic night to close off two weekends of world-class music at one of Britain’s most historic coastal settings.

Noel Gallagher announces outdoor Brighton show with The Vaccines, The Coral and more

It's the latest in a series of outdoor shows played by the former Oasis songwriter this summer

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have shared details of a headline outdoor Brighton gig this summer.

Supported by The Vaccines , The Coral and Gaz Coombes , Gallagher will bring his band to the ‘On The Beach’ show on July 30.

Tickets go on general sale this Friday (February 24) at 10am GMT here .

Gallagher’s latest announcement comes after booking an outdoor gig in Taunton this August as part of the Somerset Live series. The musician has already confirmed several other outdoor gigs for the summer including festival slots and a homecoming show at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park .

It kicks off in Auburn, Washington on June, 2, 2023 (release day for Gallagher’s new album ‘ Council Skies ’) followed by stops in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Dallas, Tampa, New York and many more, before rounding up at in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 15.

Gallagher announced ‘Council Skies’ last month along with the release of single ‘Easy Now’. You can pre-order/pre-save it here .

Following on from 2017’s  ‘Who Built The Moon?’ , the full-length project sees the former  Oasis  singer reclaiming his past and paying homage to his Mancunian roots. ‘Council Skies’ is described as the musician’s “most varied and accomplished solo record to date”.

“It’s going back to the beginning. Daydreaming, looking up at the sky and wondering about what life could be … that’s as true to me now as it was in the early ’90s,” Gallagher explained of the upcoming album.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds have announced another huge show for the summer.

Gallagher and band will take over Brighton Beach on July 30, joined by special guest support acts The Vaccines, The Coral and Gaz Coombes. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on February 24.

The show forms part of the On The Beach series, which will also see performances from Royal Blood, Carl Cox, Eric Prydz and more.

The former Oasis guitarist and co-songwriter has several other major gigs scheduled for the summer, including performances at Manchester's Wythenshawe Park, Caldicot Castle, and the grounds of Audley End House as part of the  Heritage Live  series. 

He'll also appear at a number of festivals, including PennFest ,  Splendour Festival in Nottingham, London's  South Facing Festival , and  Hardwick Festival .

In January, the 55-year-old announced his fourth studio album, 'Council Skies', which will arrive on June 2, following up 2017's 'Who Built The Moon?'. It'll include the previously unveiled singles Easy Now and Pretty Boy .

In March 2015, the second Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds album, "Chasing Yesterday" was released, & after years of deliberation, Matt put together a band of musicians to recreate the former Oasis leader's songs & shows, and fulfill a long held dream of playing a whole set of Noel's songs.

The band started gigging in November 2015 at pubs & bars in the North West of England, & have since played to thousands of people at festivals, music venues, bars & pubs across England, Wales & Scotland, as well as a New Year's Eve event in Dubai in 2022.

Arsenal and Man City both win to keep it tight at the top in the race for the Premier League title

Arsenal survived a late scare at Tottenham to stay narrowly ahead in the race for the Premier League title on Sunday.

A 3-2 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ensured Mikel Arteta’s team remained at the top of the standings, ahead of defending champion Manchester City, which won 2-0 at Nottingham Forest.

But Arsenal had to endure a nervous finish despite powering to 3-0 lead in a London derby that was supposed to be one of its biggest tests in the title chase.

“The last 20 minutes wasn’t nice, but it was worth it,” Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka said afterward. “We know it is a big derby and they don’t want to lose 3-0 at home. Momentum shifted their way, but I am proud of the boys — we managed to get the three points.”

An own-goal from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and further strikes from Saka and Kai Havertz put Arsenal into a commanding position at the break. But in the face of a potential rout, Tottenham responded in the second half through Cristian Romero and a penalty from Son Heung-min in the 87th minute.

Under pressure, Arsenal held on and remains one point clear at the top, having played a game more than City.

The advantage is still with Pep Guardiola’s team, which will clinch a fourth-straight title if it wins its remaining games this season and responded to Arsenal’s win with victory of its own at relegation-fighting Forest.

With Liverpool’s title hopes further diminishing after dropping five points in two games this week, it is down to Arsenal to challenge City’s domestic dominance.

Having collapsed late on in last season’s title race, Arteta’s players look more capable of going the distance this time around.

An away fixture against its fiercest rival, Tottenham, was a major test of its credentials at this stage of the campaign. And while Arsenal was guilty of letting Spurs back into a game that should have been killed off much earlier, victory when tension was high was a test of character.

“Maybe last season that could have ended in a draw and we showed we have the experience,” Saka said. “We know City are an amazing team, but they are not perfect, we just need to do our job.”

MAN CITY WINS

Arsenal’s win meant the pressure was on City to keep the heat on its title rival.

It was always favorite to beat a Forest team that is desperately fighting for survival but without Phil Foden, who was ill, and Erling Haaland on the bench, Guardiola was without two of its big match-winners in the starting 11.

An injury to goalkeeper Ederson also forced City into a change at halftime.

But Guardiola’s team looks to be in unstoppable form and a 2-0 win extended its unbeaten record in the league to 19 games, dating back to a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa at the start of December.

Back then there were questions about City’s ability to win a sixth title in seven years. While Arsenal may lead the way, City’s title-winning know-how could make the difference.

So could Haaland, who stepped off the bench to score the goal that effectively killed off Forest’s challenge.

Josko Gvardiol headed City in front in the first half, but Chris Wood had two clear chances from close range to score for Forest.

Haaland missed City’s last two games through injury, but was quickly back on the scoresheet with a clinically taken goal just nine minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Among those in the crowd to watch were his father, Alf-Inge, and rock star Noel Gallagher.

The goal saw Haaland move clear of Cole Palmer as the league’s top scorer with 21 goals.

“It’s an important win, it does not matter how we do it, and it is good to be back,” Haaland said. “We knew it was going to be a fight, and the pitch was not the easiest to play on but we cannot complain, it is about winning and that is exactly what we did.”

BOURNEMOUTH RECORD

Without a win in its first nine league games this season, Bournemouth is now in the top half of the table and has set its own Premier League points record.

A 3-0 win against Brighton moved Andoni Iraola’s team up to 10th and on 48 points. Bournemouth’s previous best in the top flight was 46 points in the 2016-17 season under former manager Eddie Howe.

Goals from Marcos Senesi, Enes Unal and Justin Kluivert secured victory against a Brighton team that is going in the other direction after six games without a win.

Noel Gallagher gave an uplifting and nostalgic performance at South Facing Festival 2023.

The former Oasis rocker treated London crowds to career-spanning 19-track setlist, which included tracks from across his most recently released Council Skies album as well as the Britpop band's much-loved classics and B-Sides.

First up was a stellar performance from special guest Johnny Marr, with the legendary Smiths guitarist treating fans to iconic track, How Soon Is Now? as part of his set.

Noel Gallagher opened his set with a generous helping of songs from his latest solo effort, Council Skies , playing the likes of Pretty Boy , the album's title track and Easy Now.

The 56-year-old rocker clearly hadn't lost his sense of humour over the years, teasing: "This song is NOT Supersonic," before performing Open the Door, See What You Find.

Then, thanking the crowds for supporting his latest album, he quipped: “Who actually bought it? About 25 people?"

If I Had a Gun ..., In the Heat of the Moment and AKA... What A Life! were among the solo favourites on the set, bridging the gap between his more experimental tracks and the Oasis back-catalogue.

“Anyone remember a song called Stand By Me? Right, well we’re not gonna do that one" he joked before playing the song's B-Side Going Nowhere.

What followed was a mass-singalong (which was only briefly interrupted by a Bob Dylan cover) and included the likes of The Masterplan , Half The World Away and Little By Little.

Noel even treated fans to a special rendition of Live Forever - which is famously sung by his brother Liam , before ending his set on Don't Look Back in Ange r, the iconic 1996 the unofficial Manchester he's described as his "Hey Jude".
