Explore Hunza Valley Pakistan 2024/25
I went to Pakistan with my daughter in September 2023 and the trip was very well organized. They sorted out a guide who was with us for a full 10 day trek around Hunza, who was able to explain both the culture and the surrounding nature. I would highly recommend.
Explore Northern Pakistan - Hunza & Skardu
Together with my girlfriend we travel from Uruguay to Pakistan by mid May through Exploria.pk. Our tour started in Islamabad and included Fairy Meadows (incredible place and landscapes), Hunza and all arround, Lahore and back to Islamabad. We did more than 3000 km going from -0 temperaturas to more than 40grades. We made the majority of the tour by car with a team of guide (Farman) and driver (Bilal) that performed perfectly, giving us assistance in every thing we needed and beyond, showing us how the deepper Pakistan is, telling how people is including the possibility to meet local people and listen folk music among other things as making possible to experience local food. We are more than happy to have discovered Pakistan and break the myths occidental people have about such an amazing country. We hope to be back sooner than later! Thanks Exploria who made all arrangements as per our request with very nice and comfortable locations. Thanks Farman and Bilal, we will always remember with a smile on our faces the days with you guys.
Hunza Valley & Fairy Meadows Tour, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
We have gained more insight into the different cultures of Pakistan. Our guide tried his best to answer all our questions & made us feel very welcome. We started our journey in Islamabad, then proceeded along the Karakorum Highway towards the Chinese border (Khunjerab Pass). We had chai & biscuits with local game keepers whose hospitality was moving. As an added bonus, the open fire provided some much needed warmth in an otherwise harsh climate. We have many fond memories of Pakistan, especially from the Hunza Valley.

The sight seeings are fantastic, the people are very warmly and welcome. Hunza and Skardu are the smart choice of travellers who love the nature and adventure. Roads are not really good so tour agcencies shoud prepare good car to make customers feel more comfortable. You should bring foods and snacks because you will spend a lot of time on the car/bus. In common, we really enjoyed the trip. Thanks Crossroads Aventure.

11 Days Trek Nanga Parbat Base Camp & Hunza Gojal Valley Pakistan
I had a wonderful trip with Rock Valley Tours Pvt Ltd. The whole trip is enjoyable. Both our guide Manzoor and driver Qasim are friendly and helpful. During the trip, we faced a small scale landslide which blocked our road. Manzoor and some other locals worked hard to clean up and resumed the traffic, so that we did not need to turn back and can go as scheduled.
Thallay La Trek
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Thalay La trek in Pakistan. This trekking trip is one of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my lifetime. From breathtaking landscapes to local cultures and cuisine, this experience had so much to offer. The trek began with a 4o minutes flight from Islamabad to Skardu. Once arriving at the starting point, we quickly got acclimatized with the hike, which lasted 5 days and 4 nights. The services offered by BTV is amazing. Everything from accommodation, food, guides, camping, & porters were amazing. A Highly recommended Trip.

Hunza Shangri-La Tour
What a fantastic time we had! For me it was the best trip to Hunza, Pakistan yet being able to share the whole experience with friends. Karim and Muthtar were the best guide and driver combo we could have hoped for. I have forwarded this survey to the rest of our group and I'm sure you will receive many good reports. Thanks again Karim so very much for all that you and Mutktar did to make this adventure such a huge success. Very impressive! Some of us are already talking about another trip in three years to do the Chilam Joshi festival in Kalash valley. Eugene Malaysia

Pakistan by bus: all aboard Lahore’s sightseeing double-decker
In Lahore, Pakistan’s first open-top bus tour has launched as part of a wider project to promote tourism in the region to foreign visitors
Creeping through Lahore’s notoriously bad traffic on Pakistan’s first-ever sightseeing bus, the air was as thick with pride as it was with pollution. “They say a year isn’t enough to explore Lahore,” ran the commentary – in English for my benefit but usually in Urdu (multilingual headphones aren’t available yet). As we passed the city’s 2,000-year-old monuments, seldom visited by international tourists, the snap-happy domestic travellers on board beamed. “Slow down so we can take selfies,” the tour guide instructed the driver to everyone’s delight. According to Sightseeing Lahore’s operations manager, Nayyar Mahmood, the response to the service, in bookings and feedback, has been “overwhelming”.
“Oh, great…” the commissioner of Lahore, Abdullah Khan Sumbal, said, smiling wryly, when I passed on the news. “We’re surprised something good is happening in Pakistan.”
The bus tour itself is conducted in red, open-top double-deckers, imported from China, and aims to reflect “international standards” by emulating similar schemes abroad. The tour takes almost two hours, with traffic, and covers more than 30 landmarks; beginning at the Punjab Stadium in the south-east of the city and ending in the north-west, at the Minar-e-Pakistan, a peculiar lighthouse-cum-Eiffel Tower structure. Drivers and passengers on the packed streets were enthused by the spectacle of the bus itself, waving and taking photos of the city’s latest attraction.
Lahore, spanning almost 700 square miles and with a population of over 11 million, is not short of monumental attractions and this tour aims to showcase them: the Badshahi Mosque is the world’s fifth largest; the Unesco-listed Lahore Fort is an exemplary piece of Mughal architecture; the Minar-e-Pakistan was built to commemorate the establishment of Pakistan in 1947. And below the lofty crowd-pleasers are the intricate streets of the Walled City, “the real Lahore”. Stuffed with food stalls, crafts and colour, it’s a would-be backpackers’ paradise. But there are no backpackers here.
“We have fond memories of the Lahore of the late 1970s,” Sumbal says. “Foreigners used to walk around quite comfortably. We always thought the city had great potential for tourism.” But the past decade has been devastating for Pakistan. The death toll from terrorism has risen from the hundreds in the early 2000s to more than 11,000 in 2009 and – while fatalities have been decreasing since then – last year saw 3,682 lives lost.
The state has a dedicated security force for foreign visitors, the Special Protection Unit, and this includes extra surveillance in hotels and in some instances armed escorts. “You wouldn’t have known,” Sumbal tells me, “but the bus had an armed security guard on board. Damage, or potential damage, to a foreigner is seen in a negative light.”
Travelling anywhere that requires special protection has the potential to make the visitor feel uneasy but I felt entirely comfortable and secure on the tour. The only thing that made me feel anything approaching uneasy was the special attention I received as the only westerner - and only journalist - on the bus. This was a country showing its best side, and they wanted me to see it.
But these security measures are yet to convince western governments. The US Department of State advises citizens against all non-essential travel to Pakistan, and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, though making no specific mention of Lahore, warns of security threats and kidnappings.
Cricket fans were once among the country’s few foreign visitors, but since the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, Pakistan has hosted no international cricket. The commissioner says that detailed data on tourism is not available, but the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) claims numbers are increasing: the country received around one million tourists last year – though that figure is made up largely of Pakistani nationals.
The TDCP believes that while foreign governments are advising citizens not to visit Pakistan their efforts to boost international tourism are highly compromised. But the state is laying the groundwork regardless, convinced of Pakistan’s value as a travel destination – hopefully in a more peaceful future. Launched in December 2015 and led by public-private partnerships, the sightseeing bus tour is part of a wider project to promote tourism.
Other initiatives include a “Beautification Framework”: a drive to clean up Lahore and introduce creative street horticulture; park regeneration – the 130-acre redeveloped Greater Iqbal Park due to open in April will have lakes, sports facilities and a history museum; and the country’s first theme park will open late next year.
For me the tour highlights weren’t the historic sites but the bird’s eye view of the little things, so easy to miss in the hubbub: the roadside barbershops, the brightly coloured rickshaw dealerships, the goats lounging on piles of rubble. Symbols, perhaps, of a Lahore that the government would prefer to modernise – or at least sanitise. My friend (a Pakistani now living in the UK) turned to me with tears in her eyes. “I moved to the UK for the order and efficiency, but this is what I miss – this chaos.” Driving back to the terminal, patriotic Urdu songs rang out.
“What are the lyrics?” I asked her.
“Lahore is Lahore is Lahore …”
The Sightseeing Lahore bus currently runs twice a day. The fare is 200 rupees (£1.32), students 100 rupees (66p), children under 10 and those with disabilities free

The prime minister in Pakistan-held Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, met with the protests’ organizers and said he would reduce prices of wheat and electricity, viewed by many as a barometer for the market. However, the violence continued in and near the capital, Muzaffarabad.
Pakistan’s monthly inflation rate has come down to 17% after at one point reaching over 40%.
The disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, both armed with nuclear weapons. The South Asian neighbors have fought three wars since their independence from British colonial rule in 1947.
Last year, Pakistan narrowly avoided a default on payment of foreign debts after the IMF and several friendly nations offered loans. Talks began Monday with the IMF for a new loan, the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
Pakistan hopes to get $6 billion from the IMF.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.
Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.
Belfry and Neighbouring Churches
Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.
To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.
Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral
The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.
Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.
Tsaritsa's Chambers
The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.
At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.
Palace of Tsar Alexis
The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
