Easiest way to reset trip odometer?

  • Add to quote

I find it annoying. I'd like to reset it after adding gas to it, my old car an 08' Prius would automatically reset the trip odometer after I filled it up with gas. Is there a way to do this on the TAOS? if so, how?

When you add gas to the Taos there is a menu that resets on its own. You can check it by using the "Car" button in the infotainment system, then scroll with the arrows until you find a screen that relates to the statistics since adding fuel.

yeah I actually only just recently discovered this. You don't even need to do that, when you go to the MMI screen that allows you to select two different items with the speedo, one for each side, one of them is distance/time and if you hit right again you get options for "since start" "since refuel" and "long term", this also applies to the average MPG screen.

On the Virtual Cockpit Pro if you move over a few screens you can leave the trip value up and just hold the OK button to reset it. I do the same every fill up. Pretty similar to my Grand Cherokee

How To Reset Trip On Volkswagen

By pushing and holding the RESET button on the left-hand steering wheel lever, you can reset all the data in the trip odometer TM, including the distance, average fuel consumption, average speed, and driving time.

It is not possible to manually reset the TA trip odometer. If the car isn’t utilized for four hours or more, it resets itself.

In This Article...

What resets a car’s miles counter?

The mileage of an automobile lets you know how far you’ve driven throughout the years. The mileage on your odometer would normally be hundreds or thousands of miles when it was time to replace the engine. You might start to wonder whether your mileage will be reset if you change your engine. We did the research and came up with the solutions you need for this post.

The mileage on your car is not reset when you replace the engine. The front wheel hub is where the odometer is linked, not the engine. The odometer reading won’t be impacted by any engine modifications, even if the engine is completely replaced. The only way to reset your car’s mileage is to tamper with the odometer.

As we get into more detail regarding the subject, keep reading the article. Find out whether it’s acceptable to reset the mileage on your car, among other things. Keep reading to learn more about when you should replace the engine in your car.

We hope the links provided are helpful to you before you continue reading. We may receive a commission if you buy something after clicking on one of the links on this page, so thank you!

What does the car’s trip button do?

The trip computer shows the driver important driving information on an instrument cluster display, such as the average fuel use. The computer uses this data to determine how far you can travel on the amount of petrol still in the tank. You can drive more effectively and economically with the aid of the data. Additional data on average speed or total driving duration can also be requested.

How is an odometer zeroed?

There are two typical causes for wanting to reset your car’s odometer. First, you might wish to reset the odometer because the mileage occasionally resets on its own or because you’re engaging in fraudulent activity. Resetting the odometer increases the value and makes the automobile appear newer if you want to sell it. You should keep in mind that committing such a fraudulent act is punishable by law. To learn how to reset the odometer on a Toyotaor any other make of carfollow the procedures listed below.

The majority of Japanese automakers display the vehicle mileage on the instrument cluster, not the car computer, when they replace the instrument cluster. The mileage on the odometer will read zero once you replace the instrument cluster. If you choose to utilize a used instrument cluster from another automobile to replace yours, the used cluster will display the mileage of the original car.

Why is it permitted to reset the odometer if this is a fraud? It’s against the law to replace the odometer without completing any papers. As you probably saw in the previous few lines, it is against the law in the United States to reset an odometer. Transposing the original miles from the previous instrument cluster before replacement is the sole permitted method of instrument cluster replacement (other than resetting the odometer).

The simplest method to reset the odometer is by turning the knob. On the instrument cluster, look for a knob. This knob performs a number of functions, including displaying the percentage of fuel left and temperature readings. Surprisingly, this knob can reset the trip miles on a car if you’re looking for a way to do so. Press and hold down this knob for a short period of time to reset the miles; as the fuel economy increases, your odometer will reset to zero.

Reassemble the Odometer: Resetting the odometer on older vehicles will be a simple and uncomplicated task if you are a gearhead about car parts and mechanisms like me. All you have to do is disassemble the instrument cluster using standard mechanic tools like screwdrivers and pliers, reset the mile values manually, and then put it back together.

In any event, some automakers decided to incorporate a tamper-proof seal because they are aware of these tactics. If your car has a tamper-proof seal, it won’t be simple to reset the odometer without being discovered.

If you decide to alter the odometer readings, be sure to match the readings to the expected lifespan of your car. Tires have a 25k mile life expectancy on average. If your vehicle’s tires appear to be worn out and your mileage reads 15k, odometer rigging will be simple to spot.

Where is the reset button for the trip odometer?

The left-side steering wheel lever or the instrument panel both offer ways to reset the trip odometer. Reset the trip odometer’s information (distance driven, average consumption, average speed and driving time).

How can I re-set the infotainment on my 2022 VW Tiguan?

Yes. For around 10 seconds, press and hold the infotainment power “button.” This button may be found below the center screen, to the left of the sliders for the temperature and volume. Thanks, and obvious.

Is it forbidden to reset an odometer?

Federal and state regulations also prohibit the practice of odometer fraud. Federal law forbids disconnecting, resetting, or otherwise manipulating a vehicle’s odometer with the intention of changing the displayed number of miles, while each state has its own unique statute. The vendor of a car must provide the buyer with a written disclosure of the mileage recorded on the odometer. According to the legislation, a declaration to that effect must be provided on the buyer’s title if the odometer mileage is unreliable. In California, for example, the seller is required to finish a Vehicle/Vessel Transfer Form (REG 262) and indicate the accurate mileage on the title. The vendor is not required to provide any written disclosures about mileage if the car is more than ten years old.

Can a car’s miles be reversed?

The mileage on your odometer is a car component that is subject to tampering just like any other component. Since the advent of automobiles, con artists have been altering this. Before they become automatic, odometers on cars could be manually rolled back or reset. Digital odometers are becoming the norm, and manual ones are getting harder to spot on the road. Even yet, con artists continue to alter a car’s mileage before selling it. By changing the car’s circuit board and tweaking the mileage display to read any number you enter, digital vehicle odometers may easily be “rolled back.”

The odometer reading on your car cannot go backwards without being tampered with, in contrast to some movies. By reducing or inverting the vehicle’s mileage, you can make it seem as though it has been used less than it has, raising its market value.

What do trips 1 and 2 in a car mean?

You may monitor the distance your car has covered since the odometer was reset by using the Trip 1 and Trip 2 function in the driver information center (DIC). Trips 1 and 2 are quite simple to reach:

1. Press the MENU button to bring up the Trip/Fuel Information Menu on the DIC.

2. Scroll to either Trip 1 or Trip 2 using the toggle buttons, then hit SET/CLR.

3. Press SET/CLR once more to erase and reset the current trip odometer.

What does a car’s trip reset button do?

By pushing and holding the RESET button on the left-hand steering wheel lever, you can reset all the data in the trip odometer TM, including the distance, average fuel consumption, average speed, and driving time. Only the distance driven is reset when the RESET button is pressed.

What occurs when a car has too many miles on it?

When the engine stalls, the car is unable to move. Repairing the car can be incredibly expensive, and it’s frequently not worth it. Generally speaking, buying a new car with a high mileage is preferable to attempting to repair an old one.

How can I reduce my car’s mileage?

Although it can be difficult to increase your car’s mileage, you can reduce your gas usage.

Here are some suggestions for reducing your gas use per mile, in addition to the usual advice to drive less:

  • Avoid being idle. Even though the miles on the odometer remain the same when the engine is left running and you remain in one place, you are still using petrol.
  • Gently accelerate and brake. A sudden acceleration or deceleration can deplete your fuel significantly more quickly than a leisurely increase or stop.
  • When you can, coast. You may not even need gas when traveling downhill! Whenever you can, coast to save on petrol (but do so carefully).
  • Eliminate extra weight. For every 100 pounds of additional weight, your car’s fuel economy decreases by around 2%!
  • Ensure that the gas cap is tightly screwed on. Even if you are staying there, a loose cap might result in gas loss.
  • Try to avoid using the air conditioning. Try not to use your air conditioning too frequently because it actually uses gas to run. Instead, widen the window!

Each of these suggestions can help you save a small amount of gas, but several small savings can make a significant difference!

Reset trip odometer

  • Add to quote

I have searched high and low but I cannot find a control that will allow me to zero the trip. Any clues? Thanks!

Do you have an analogue or digital instrument display? If the former, I _think_ you get the trip meter to show in the display then press the button in the centre of the display cluster (marked "0.0") for a couple of seconds. Not sure about a digital display.

My displays are all digital

On the left side of steering wheel Use the up and down arrows until trip is highlighted and then press ok button , this will reset trip to zero .

I really think for the first time ever I'm going to have to read the manual when I get my T Roc. So much technology in it!

You have to enter to infotaiment system > CAR > Settings > Reset Statics, or someplace like that.

Two ways to reset the odometer: Infotainment system, Car, Settings, scroll right down to Instrument Cluster, then you can reset 'Odometer', 'Long Term' 'Since Start' or use the up/down arrows on the steering wheel to navigate to 'Trip' press OK and it will ask if you want to reset the Odometer, Press OK to do so. The 'Since Re-fuelling' reset seems to be automatic.

Found solution to clock and trip odometer resetting problem

  • Add to quote

My 2002 Jetta GL was having the problem where the clock and trip odometer would reset every time the car was started. I had the car in to the dealer to have another key coded, and they couldn't get the car to accept the new key. They finally determined that Fuse #15 was blown, which supplies "30 Power" to the ECM. After replacing the fuse, the keys would program correctly. And, as a bonus, my clock and trip odometer now work properly. I had searched quite a bit and found lots of people with this problem, but no definitive solutions. So, if you have the clock/odo reset problem, check fuse #15!

The fuse guide issued in 2000 has fuse 15 (5 amp) as "Instrument cluster, auto trans control module" Fuse 29 (15amp) is "Engine control module", and fuse 10 (10amp) is "ECM"

My trip odo reset itself today. The first thing I noticed is the car didn't lock up when I pressed the key fob button. I walked back and tried again, then turned the key in the door to try and arm the locks. Nothing. Got in the car, put key in ignition, turned to accessory, then hit key fob lock and the car locked. Unlocked it got out of car, then hit key fob and car was locked. When I came back to the parking lot, that's when I noticed the trip odo and clock were reset. Battery is 1 year old. What could this be? I pulled out fuse 15 and it's good - all this did was reset my clock and trip odo again.

Trip odometer resets to zero and clock to 12:00 at each start

  • Thread starter dennisy
  • Start date Jun 13, 2009

After a dead battery overnight and a jump start zI found this morning the trip odemeter reset to zero and the clock to 12:00 on each subsequent restart. Because the battery was dead and the radio was set to turn on starting, the radio fuse lew on the jump start. Are the two related or issue the clock/trip odometer reset a separate issue?

You may want to have your battery load tested. I had the same problem on an 04 toyota solara. Battery tester showed full charge and no problems with the alternator. Every start the clock and trip reset. Had the battery load tested and bingo, bad battery. New battery, no more resets.

Similar thing happened to me when I drove way up north (Flin Flon, MB) last summer. Before I left, everything was fine. We stopped a few times along the way, no problems with the battery. When we got to our destination everything seemed fine until we went to start the car and we got nothing. Very odd, because it was like night and day, good battery, dead battery. When you got in the car, the lights came on, everything worked until you went to start then it would all just die. Jumpstarting worked fine, but as soon as you turned it off, it would be dead again. Turns out the battery had a bulge on one of the sides and was toast. It was the original factory battery and was 6 years old so no biggie really. Luckily there's a Canadian Tire up there and I was able to buy a new one. Another issue I had once was a corroded ground caused some funky issues with the cluster and interior lights (background lighting flickering, cluster throwing all kinds of warning lights randomly, clock & trip odo resetting while you're driving...). I cleaned the grounds under the battery, and the 3 under the driver's side dash, but the problematic one was the ground just beside the driver's footrest. Once I cleaned that up everything was fine. I also added a generous glob of dielectric grease to each one so it wouldn't happen again. In fact that's good advice for any electrical connector on these cars. If you unplug it, pack some dielectric grease in there. That's fixed a lot of people's problems with the MAF on the ALH motors. So yeah take your battery down to an autoparts store and get it checked out, and if it's ok, check your grounds (FYI all ground wires on VW are brown, and a Haynes/Bentley manual would help you locate them). Hope that helps!
