Tata Safari Classic rendered

Prior to the launch of the new Safari monocoque, Tata Motors used to offer this iconic SUV with a proper ladder-on-frame chassis. The company gave it the name of Tata Safari Storme, and it was a decent hit in the country. However, this model was then discontinued, and ever since then, there has been a gap in the Tata lineup, and now there is no model that can directly compete with the Mahindra Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N. However, what if the company decided to relaunch the Safari Storme with a modernized look? Well, if this were the case, then it could look something like this.

The video rendering of what the Tata Safari Classic could look like has been shared on YouTube by Bimble Designs on their channel. It starts off with a panning shot of the front end of the rendered Tata Safari Classic model finished in silver color. It can be noted that the overall body and design of the discontinued Tata Safari Storme has been retained. However, it has been given a number of modern elements to make it look more contemporary.

On the front, the first thing that we can note is that the headlights have been given a much more modern appearance. The inside portion of these LED headlights has been blacked out, and they have been given LED DRLs. Just underneath the main headlights, we can also note the presence of more LED headlights similar to the ones seen in the new Safari facelift with its split LED headlight setup. The front grille has also been blacked out, and it also takes inspiration from the grille of the outgoing Safari facelift. The front bumper also features a black skid plate as well.

Tata Safari Classic: What If It Came Back! [Video]

Coming to the side profile, not much has been changed by the digital artist. The car continues to boast the same tall and long silhouette of the Safari Storme with the exception of 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Additionally, the door handles have also been blacked out, and a Classic badge has been added on the side profile. As for the rear end, it also looks the same as the Storme but has been given a few little updates. This rendered model gets new LED taillights replacing the old halogen taillights. It also gets a new connected LED light bar in the middle as well.

Tata Safari Classic: Is it coming?

Unfortunately, at the moment, the company does not have any plans to bring back the Safari Storme with the new Classic badge. The company is currently moving towards a future with more electric vehicles in its plans. The company recently showcased the near-production version of the Sierra EV, which has also been in development for a long time.

Tata Safari Classic: What If It Came Back! [Video]

Tata Motors will be bringing back the iconic Sierra name with the electric powertrain around 2025. The model will get a very bold exterior design and a modern interior layout. The company at the moment has not revealed its powertrain specifications. However, it is believed that it will be offering the Sierra EV with a 60 kWh battery pack which will be able to provide a range of around 550-600 km.

2023 Tata Safari Classic 4×4 – Combining a New SUV Design with a Trusted Platform

2023 Tata Safari Classic 4×4 – As automotive enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the release of the 2023 Tata Safari Classic, we delve into the intriguing combination of a new SUV design and a trusted platform.

Page Contents

The Safari, manufactured by Tata Motors, is a renowned SUV known for its iconic status. It was initially introduced in 1998 and has undergone various updates since then.

Tata Motors has maintained the illustrious name ‘Safari’ by creating a contemporary monocoque front-wheel drive SUV. Essentially, it is a modified version of the Harrier, featuring a distinct design to incorporate a third row of seating.

This article offers an in-depth look at the features and innovations that make the upcoming Safari Classic a standout in its class.

2023 Tata Safari Classic 4×4

According to off-road enthusiasts and dedicated Safari fans, the latest generation of the Safari has taken on a more refined demeanor compared to its previous rugged and robust incarnation.

The original Safari was never afraid to immerse itself in dirt and mud, boasting a traditional ladder-frame chassis and a rear-wheel drive layout. In its Storme version, it even offered an optional 4X4 system by BorgWarner.

Wouldn’t it be intriguing if Tata Motors adopted a comparable approach and reintroduced the original Safari as the Safari Classic?

It’s an enticing proposition, isn’t it? Carwar has embraced this very idea and brought it to life in the form of a digital rendering.

During the previous Auto Expo, an exclusive edition of the Safari Storme was unveiled, sparking speculation about the potential return of the Safari 4×4 at the upcoming January 2023 Auto Expo.

The utilization of a 2.0L diesel engine sourced from Stellantis could inject new vitality into this classic SUV. The engine can be calibrated to deliver reduced power output but increased torque, catering to the SUV’s updated purpose. Additionally, Tata Motors has the option of utilizing the older 2.2L engine, now compliant with BS6 norms, which is presently reserved exclusively for commercial vehicles such as the recently launched Yodha 2.0.

However, it must be noted that this engine only produces 100 bhp, a significant decrease compared to the original Safari’s 148 bhp.

Tata Safari facelift spied

In the lead-up to the launch of the Safari facelift in October this year , Tata Motors continues testing the updated SUV on our roads. A fresh sighting of a camouflaged test mule gives us the clearest look yet at the design details of the facelifted Safari. The Safari facelift takes design inspiration from the  Harrier EV concept  that was previewed at Auto Expo earlier this year. A majorly overhauled interior along with a new turbo-petrol engine under the hood is also expected to be on the cards.

  • Safari facelift to borrow Harrier EV design cues
  • Prices likely to be announced around October this year
  • New 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine could come later

Tata Safari facelift exterior design

Previous sightings of the Safari facelift test mules have already hinted at a completely redesigned front fascia. It will retain a split LED headlamp set-up, but the upper LED DRL will be a full-width light bar stretching across the bonnet. Meanwhile, the main headlamp cluster in the bumper below is now vertically positioned.

The latest spy images reveal a blacked-out treatment around the headlamp housing and there even seems to be an air vent integrated into the cluster. Not only do the new headlamps look a lot sleeker than the bulbous units on the current Safari, but the blacked-out treatment could give a distinctive dual-tone look to the fascia of the SUV. The redesign has resulted in a completely new bumper, and there’s also an all-new grille with slim horizontal slats.

safari classic launch date

There aren’t major changes in profile, but the new spy shots also give us a first look at the blacked-out, twin five-spoke alloy wheels. While the rear continues to be heavily camouflaged, the Safari will likely get new, slimmer and connected LED tail-lamps, and a slightly tweaked rear bumper. These design updates will also make it to the ICE-powered Harrier facelift that’s also due later this year.

Tata Safari facelift interior and features

Although the interior of the Safari facelift has not been spied yet, we expect a major overhaul there too. Tata has already introduced the new 10.25-inch touchscreen on the  Harrier  and Safari with the  Red Dark Edition , but we expect a few more changes to the dashboard design. Perhaps the new two-spoke steering wheel that was recently seen on the  Nexon facelift test mule  could also make it to the Safari facelift.

Tata Safari facelift spied: could be petrol or EV

The Safari facelift will continue with the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 170hp and 350Nm of torque, and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. Tata's  new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine  which is currently under development could join the line-up at a later stage.

Tata Safari facelift production, launch plan

As we recently reported, Tata Motors will start production of the Safari facelift at its Pimpri plant in September 2023, and a market launch could be expected by October 2023, just before Diwali. Upon launch, it will continue to rival with the likes of the  7-seat Mahindra XUV700 , and the  Hyundai Alcazar .

Story

  • The new Tata Safari facelift has received major updates inside-out
  • The SUV is a lot more feature-packed now and get advanced tech
  • The Safari Facelift will be launched in India on October 17, 2023

Twenty-five years is a long time – and if you are an early millennial like me, back in 1998 you were just about in your teenage, and in awe of this sensation called the Tata Safari . Now I am closer to my mid-life crisis and a large, in-your-face SUV is just what the doctor has prescribed, but in the last 25 years, the Safari too has evolved. This child prodigy that we all fell in love with has also come of age. So, I spent a day with the new Safari to figure out how this facelifted version fits the needs of someone looking to buy an SUV, today.

The Safari has moved on from the angry look; that is just the Harrier now. Tata with this facelift has created more distinction between the two SUVs. While the Harrier continues to get horizontal and angular lines, the Safari has more vertical elements. What this has ensured is that instead of looking like a fighter about to enter the ring, the Safari now carries itself with the charm of an army officer!

In terms of design updates, this now gets a full-width LED bar with welcome and goodbye animation. While I am not a big fan of this new trend, to be honest, it does look nice on the Safari. The profile is more or less the same, but the new 19-inch alloys are very cool looking and fill up the wheel wells nicely.

As for the rear, the LED taillights also get a connected pattern, in line with the Safari’s design theme with vertical lines. Having said that, the rear isn’t the most appealing angle to look at the safari; the design makes it look a little smaller than it is.

I like the way the new Safari looks – sophisticated! One of the key reasons for that is also the choice of colours – the Cosmic Gold that I drove is quite unique, I am also keen on looking at the Supernova Copper and Lunar Slate.

safari classic launch date

At first glance, the inside looks very different from the earlier model. Though the layout is very much the same, to ensure that the SUV feels more premium Tata has played with the styling. The dashboard gets faux wood inlays with a pinstripe pattern, which helps in creating this upmarket image. And I think it looks particularly nice.

safari classic launch date

Although a bit gimmicky, the new steering, with the illuminated Tata logo, does get its fair share of attention and the infotainment system is a 12.3-inch unit on this top-end Accomplished persona. The instrument cluster is also big, 10.25-inch to be precise, with many customisation options. The Safari also gets a piano black panel for capacitive buttons for AC and other in-car controls, along with a rotary dial with a built-in screen for the terrain modes.

safari classic launch date

New features on the Safari include a powered tailgate (finally!), a 10-speaker JBL system, 7 airbags, wireless charger dual-zone AC, and rear sunshades. The system also comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with JBL modes that allow you to select between different predefined music settings.

safari classic launch date

The space in the car remains unchanged. If you intend to use the Safari as a chauffeur-driven car, then the boss mode at the back is handy. Also, the cooled seats at the back are a very valuable feature that not many in the market offer at this point. The third row is for children and has its own storage pockets, air vents and charging points with USB and type-C ports.

Performance

safari classic launch date

There is no change to the powertrain of the Safari. It runs on the same 2.0-litre diesel motor that makes 168 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The key updates here are the paddle shifters and the switch to electric power steering, which make driving this relatively large SUV easier.

safari classic launch date

In city mode, it lacks bottom-end, this though can be quickly addressed by the use of paddle shifters or Sport mode. There are a few tweaks to the suspension as well and the ride is marginally better than before, not that it was ever too bad!

safari classic launch date

While overall I like the way Safari drives, I am not a big fan of the ADAS for everyday usage. It feels intrusive and the cabin is always ringing with one alert or another, since driving sense in our chaotic cities is abysmal.

safari classic launch date

On the highway, though it is a different story, with the adaptive cruise control, expressway driving becomes a lot easier.

With the ground clearance and the torque, some amount of soft-roading too is easy for the Safari. For those still looking for AWD, I think the wait will continue at least till 2025.

safari classic launch date

Safety and Variant Details

Six airbags are standard across all five personas of the Safari. The base is the Smart Persona which comes with 17-inch alloys and 6 airbags. The Pure Persona gets a touchscreen infotainment system with 6 speakers, Android Auto, Apple Carplay and a reverse parking camera.

Also Read: Tata Safari Facelift: Variants Explained

safari classic launch date

The Adventure Persona above it, gets 18-inch wheels, 360-degree view cameras for parking and optional ADAS which is not updated to offer adaptive cruise control. The top-end Fearless and Dark persona gets 19-inch alloys, a bigger display and a music system along with 7 airbags.

safari classic launch date

For the ones looking at the Safari as an answer to their midlife crisis, they will have to look somewhere else. Without the AWD, the Safari is not a toy. This is a serious car for a mature buyer. For someone looking for a 6- and 7-seater family car with solid features, modern tech like ADAS, decent space and acceptable safety, the Tata Safari makes a very compelling case. Prices for the SUV will be announced on October 17, 2023, and I think a premium of Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh, depending on the variant, would be a reasonable ask.

This SUV created a segment of its own and quickly became a status symbol for many upper-class Indians (as the price was pretty expensive).

Tata marketed it as a lifestyle vehicle that not only is capable of performing well on city roads but can easily conquer any other off-terrain thrown at it. People aspirated this freedom well but in 2002 Mahindra launched their Scorpio in the same 7-seater utilitarian segment at a much lower price of ₹ 5.5 Lakhs Ex-showroom India , making Indians quickly shift their Focus from Safari to Scorpio. Scorpio kept on eating Safari’s Market share due to lower cost of ownership and better product mix.

Tata Did a lot to regain their market share – from launching a much more powerful diesel option to offering a lower spec variant at almost the same price as the Mahindra Scorpio, but till now Scorpio had strengthened itself as the No.1 in the segment.

tata safari storme india re launch 2024

The sales difference between the Scorpio and Safari kept on increasing and went on to such a point where Tata Safari Storme’s yearly sales were less than Mahindra Scorpio’s 2-week sales (that’s crazy).

Safari for Army

But even though our Indian consumers did not realize the real potential of the Tata Safari, our Indian Army did and gave Tata an order for over 3000 Safaris in 2018 for its GS800 armed vehicle category . The Indian Army tested more than 10 vehicles for their GS800 category but only found the Tata Safari Storme fulfilling all their requirements.

tata safari gs800 army edition

But after all this and the launch of the Harrier, Tata had to streamline their production and make Harrier their new flagship SUV and also due to BS6 coming in place, there was no reason to invest additional money on the Safari Storme project due to the sluggish demand, so in late 2019 Tata officially bid Farewell to the Tata Safari Storme.

But Mahindra is still making big bucks selling their 22-year-old Scorpio with some minor updates here and there, and people still are buying even though at the same price they can buy a New Generation well-built Scorpio-n (but still their stupid minds go towards the Scorpio Classic).

mahindra scorpio classic vs safari storme

So clearly there is a big demand for these iconic old-school SUVs with a big legacy among the Indian audience, so Tata has some big potential unutilized by not launching a revamped version of their Safari Storme with more features, Power, Safety, and luxury.

2024 Tata Safari Storme Classic

To make a new updated version of the Tata Safari Storme, Tata should not touch the body lines, overall shape, and appeal of the vehicle but should try to play with the small bits here and there to considerably modernize their SUV.

tata safari classic india 2024 official launch

At the front Tata can make subtle changes with new revamped LED Headlights with big high-beam and wide-beam functions and Tata can even go with the split light treatment where the high beam and wide beam will be placed at the lower parts of the bumper, and a new bigger grill with similar indents to those found on the new Generation Harrier and Safari.

tata safari storme classic official india launch

On the side, Tata need not change much and keep the iconic design language unchanged, but can go with a newer set of 18-inch dual tone alloys which will sharpen the looks of the vehicle and make it more advanced,   and the fewer changes the better it would feel.

At the back, Tata needs to keep the same upright looks but with newer LED Taillights, better more advanced-looking bumpers and that’s it, that's all we need.

tata safari storme classic interior

On the inside the Tata Safari Storme had a decent interior but is not up to 2024 marks, so Tata can move forward by updating the interiors by placing a new Dashboard with better looks, fewer controls, and a big 10-inch screen at the center. A new instrument cluster with more information and visuals to make the driving experience better.

2024 Tata Safari Classic Price

Before getting discontinued in 2019, Tata Safari was on sale for ₹ 10-97-16.35 Lakhs Ex-showroom India (pretty high for that time). So if the Tata Safari Stome makes a comeback expect prices between Rs 12-18 Lakhs Ex-showroom India.

Thrall battling Deathwing in the Dragon Soul raid in World of Warcraft Cataclysm

Blizzard confirms WoW Cataclysm Classic launch date, speedy content pace through 2024

Image of Michael Kelly

The next WoW Classic expansion is on its way, with Cataclysm Classic getting an official launch date confirmed by Blizzard Entertainment earlier today.

WoW Cataclysm Classic will go live on May 20, and the pre-patch for the expansion will be shipped onto Classic realms on April 30. On that date, some of the expansion’s new features will be playable, and the game will begin its transition over from the Wrath of the Lich King era into Cataclysm . Some of the features coming in the pre-patch include the new Archaeology profession, the Reforging system, and the game’s two “newest” races: Goblins and Worgen . It’s on this date that the world will also be completely remade following Deathwing’s destruction of many leveling zones.

The Barrens in Azeroth after being torched by Deathwing in Cataclysm

The Cataclysm pre-patch will also bring transmogrification with it right from the beginning. Transmog wasn’t originally introduced to WoW until the final patch of Cataclysm back in 2011, but for the re-release of the expansion, the feature will be available from the start.

Additionally, Blizzard confirmed the exact pace at which the content patches for Cataclysm Classic would be released. Players should expect an extremely fast pace of updates for the new Classic expansion, with a new major patch being released roughly once every two to three months.

The follow-up patches in Cataclysm Classic will be released at an incredibly fast pace, with the entire expansion’s full slate of content being released in a span that will last just over six months. Back when Cataclysm originally released in 2010, it took nearly a full year for all of the content patches, raids, and other new additions to be shipped onto live servers. For the re-release of the Classic version of the expansion, though, Cataclysm fans can expect to breeze through all of the content in a pace that sees it wrapped up shortly after the start of 2025.

According to Blizzard’s announcement , the first content update for the next Classic expansion will go live just over one month after its launch, while the final patch of Cataclysm Classic , the Hour of Twilight, will go live in January of next year. This content schedule means players will go from leveling in the initial zones of the expansion to defeating Deathwing in the Dragon Soul raid in just over half a year. This expedited content pace is unprecedented for not just WoW Classic , but any WoW expansion or re-release in the game’s lengthy history.

Cataclysm Classic will also introduce a few changes that differ from the original version of the expansion, including faster experience gains, account-wide appearance and gear collections, and improvements to Cataclysm’s infamously hard Heroic dungeon system.

WoW Cataclysm Classic will go live on May 20, but the pre-patch will introduce a few new features in just over three weeks on April 30.

World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic Sets Release Date and Reveals Roadmap

Deathwing returns in may..

Rebekah Valentine Avatar

Blizzard has announced that a coming update to World of Warcraft: Classic re-introducing the fiery Cataclysm expansion will land on May 20.

Officially, Classic will heat up a little before that on April 30 with the pre-patch event. Cataclysm's pre-patch back in the day was one doozy of a change, too. It introduced playable Worgen and Goblins, set the dragon Deathwing loose on Azeroth, and because of Deathwing's escapades, transformed the entire landscape of Azeroth's main continents.

The full expansion on May 20 will include seven new (to Classic) zones, nine new dungeons, three new raid dungeons, the Archeology profession. VFlying will be introduced to Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms. Additionally, with the transformation of the main continents' landscapes, numerous new quests will be introduces, while old ones will disappear forever. Various patches will contain further updates, with Rise of the Zandalari dropping in July, Rage of the Firelands in October, and Hour of Twilight releasing in January of 2025.

But mainly, Cataclysm involves a pretty drastic change to what the current map of Azeroth looks like: the Barrens splits in half, Thousand Needles goes underwater, and a chunk of Darkshore's coastline is washed away. Also, Deathwing is flying around and can randomly set entire zones on fire. Cool!

WoW Classic marches on

All of this reflects the changes to World of Warcraft initially introduced when Cataclysm was first released back in 2010, with very few exceptions. When Classic was first released, Blizzard's goal was to give players an opportunity to experience World of Warcraft as it was when it first launched, rather than being forced to flock to player-run servers.

Experience your favorite Cataclysm moments faster than ever before! 📜 Pre-Patch – April 30 🌋 Launch – May 20 🌴 Rise of the Zandalari – July 2024 🔥 Rage of the Firelands – October 2024 🌙 Hour of Twilight – January 2025 Stand in the fire: https://t.co/ERuEh0ItOr pic.twitter.com/eYfkAtq47E — World of Warcraft (@Warcraft) April 9, 2024

But with Cataclysm , the world of Azeroth begins to more closely resemble what the game looks like now — minus several expansion-specific zones. The original World of Warcraft, as it was prior to all expansions, is still available as a Classic option, and Blizzard has introduced a number of special rules servers to spice it up such as Hard Mode and Season of Discovery.

World of Warcraft: Classic is available to anyone with a World of Warcraft subscription. Currently, Classic's main servers are in the final days of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, with all raids and dungeons from that time available, including Icecrown Citadel.
