To much scams…please READ!

So whenever I use this app/ Safari it get these trackers and scammers to get my location and this is making me nervous. I installed ad blocker I think it’s called and I blocked some trackers which made me feel better. Every time you search something you usually get a scam or tracker. I do not like when people track me down. I rarely use this app because of the scams and risks. I think it is an OK app in general because it’s the people making these small BAD websites. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it could use work but it is pretty much like google. I use google way more because I feel like it is much safer than safari. I could be wrong… Safari could use some work with all these BAD websites. Can you block these bad websites? I would love to block these websites cause they are scary. Also watch out for nine anime/ 9anime websites… I searched up 9anime on safari and clicked a link. It looked safe but then these inappropriate pop ups kept coming. I immediately got off. I checked my ‘ How much trackers we have prevented’ or whatever it’s called it said that it had prevented 14 trackers from getting my IP address. This was good and bad news. I’m glad that safari and google can prevent these trackers but it is bad because this is dangerous. BE CAREFUL ON SAFARI!!!

Your Underrated Prince, Safari

In my humble opinion, Safari is the underrated king among multiple web browsers on the market. I was a PC devotee from ‘95 to ‘16, since then, it’s been all Tim Cook 🍎 all the time. My only regret is not purchasing a smartphone back in ‘07 from Steve Jobs. Presently, I own an iPhone 6s Plus in rose gold (2016), iPad Mini (2016), iPad Pro (2019) & MacBook (2018) in rose gold with matching Beats By Dre headphones. All four are set up with Safari, not Chrome, TOR, Brave, Edge, or DDGo. I love the ability to quickly save favorites, add to reading list & share content to other platforms. My favorites are alphabetized for quick reference & the reading list keeps all articles & pages in chronological order for quick recall. Also, I learned Safari quickly because it’s extremely user friendly. The browser helped my navigation of Apple when switching from PC. I’ll admit, learning MacBook isn’t easy, but, Safari keeps things familiar for me on the desktop. When lost, just go back to Safari & start over. It’s surprising no one in tech media mentions Safari more often as a go to source for navigating the internet. Chrome is the reigning king of, Land Of Browsers, without an heir apparent. I nominate Safari as the prince with future king potential. Citizens of Land Of Browsers don’t like their chrome-plated dirty laundry aired, sold or tracked.

This new layout is better IMO, but there are a few other problems that kinda bug me

Unpopular opinion, but this new layout is better. I don’t even remember the old layout since I’m not even a long-time iOS user (this is my first iPhone). I looked up the old layout or the “cascade” layout and it looks more painful to me than the new one. By the looks of it, it’s definitely easier to miss a tab you’re looking for in the older version, and then you will have to spend like 10 more minutes scrolling to find the tab you’re looking for. Sure, it may be “faster”, but it’s definitely harder to find the certain tab you’re looking for if most of the tabs are only viewable by a little area at the top. This app is mostly fine except for a few problems I get from time to time. Today I’m having a problem where I was trying to look at some Google images and then I tried to look at more but it was just stuck on loading. It wouldn’t even finish loading. This happened only on like 2 searches thankfully though. I’d probably give it a 95% since it has some minor lags and problems.

How To : Download & Install iOS 14 on Your iPhone via Update or Restore Image

Download & Install iOS 14 on Your iPhone via Update or Restore Image

Apple's iOS 14 is here. With it, you'll see over 200 new features and changes hit your iPhone, including home screen widgets , inline replies in Messages , and cycling routes in Maps . Here's how you can get your hands on the brand new update.

Apple released iOS 14 to compatible devices on Wednesday, Sept. 15 — one day after releasing the iOS 14 golden master (GM) edition, which is the same thing as the stable release only for developers and public beta testers.

The company made the release announcement on Sept. 14 during its " Time Flies " event, where it skipped iPhone 12 and 12 Pro news for Apple Watch and iPad unveilings. Apple usually announces software release dates with a little more notice than a day, so we were certainly surprised by the news.

  • More Info: 200+ New Features & Changes in iOS 14 for iPhone

Method 1: Install via the OTA Update

Just like any other iOS update, open the Settings app, then head to "General," followed by "Software Update." When the update is ready, it'll show up here, where you can download and install it using the on-screen instructions.

How to Download & Install iOS 14 on Your iPhone via Update or Restore Image

If you use the " Automatic Updates " feature, you can just let your iPhone download the update over Wi-Fi whenever it comes out ("Download iOS Updates" must be on). Then, you can have it update overnight if you have it set to "Install iOS Updates." You just need to confirm you want to do it whenever you get an alert. Then, when it's charging and connected to Wi-Fi at night, it'll update.

How to Download & Install iOS 14 on Your iPhone via Update or Restore Image

Method 2: Install via the Restore Image

If you'd rather take matters into your own hands and install iOS 14 manually, you can use your computer. To start, you'll need to download the IPSW file for your particular iPhone model to your computer, then install it on your iPhone.

At this time, you'll need macOS Big Sur 11 beta 6 or later with Xcode 12 to use the restore images below. For previous iOS versions, Apple made it possible to use the current stable or previous stable macOS version to update as long as the latest Xcode or Xcode mobile package was installed, but for iOS 14, it's requiring macOS Big Sur 11. So unless you want to jump on the macOS beta, it's better to go with Method 1 above.

Step 1: Download the Right IPSW File

First, download the IPSW file for your specific iPhone from the list below. These links are verified through Apple's website, so they're completely legitimate:

Restore Images for iOS 14 & iPadOS 14

  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone X S Max
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6 S Plus
  • iPhone SE (1st generation)
  • iPod touch (7th generation)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation)
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation)
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st generation)
  • iPad Pro 10.5-inch
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch (1st generation)
  • iPad (7th generation) (10.2-inch)
  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad (5th generation)
  • iPad mini (5th generation)
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)

Once you have the IPSW file on your computer, installing iOS 14 is as easy as:

Step 2: Connect Your iPhone to Your Mac

Using a Lightning to USB cable or Lightning to USB-C cable , plug your iPhone into your computer.

Step 3: Unlock Your iPhone (If Necessary)

If you see " Unlock iPhone to Use Accessories " when you plug your iPhone into your computer, unlock your iPhone with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

Step 4: Trust Your Computer (If Necessary)

If this is the first time you've connected your iPhone to your computer, you might have to "Trust" the computer before it will connect. Follow the instructions on your iPhone and computer to do so. You can always untrust the computer later.

Step 5: Open Finder & Choose Your iPhone

When your iPhone successfully connects to your computer, a new Finder window should open with your iPhone information in it. If not, open it and select your iPhone from the sidebar under Locations , then make sure you're on the "General" tab. It should open by default.

Step 6: Back Up to iOS 13 (Optional)

If you want to protect your data, make a backup of your iPhone running iOS 13. You can make a complete backup using Finder, or you can make a partial backup using iCloud . Since you're already using Finder, it might make the most sense for you to back up there. If you'd like to save your Health and Activity data, choose the encrypted local option, then click "Back Up Now."

If you really want to make sure that data is protected, do the following.

Step 7: Archive Your iOS 13 Backup (Optional)

The next time you connect your iPhone to your computer after backing it up, it will overwrite the old backup with your iPhone's current state. Normally, this works out fine, but because you're running iOS 14, that means your computer will overwrite your old iOS 13 backup with it. No good.

If you want to make sure your iOS 13 backup is safe, or if you want to downgrade to iOS 13 again, you'll need to archive your backup. That might sound a bit difficult, but it can be quite easy.

In the Finder window, choose "Manage Backups" via the "General" tab, right-click on the iOS 13 backup, then choose "Archive" (the name of the backup will change slightly to demonstrate it saved).

Step 8: Start Installing iOS 14

Hold down Options on your Mac, then choose "Update" or "Check for Update" in Finder.

Step 9: Choose the IPSW File

Select the IPSW restore image from the file selection window, then click "Open" to start installing the software.

Step 10: Wait for Finder

Once Finder is done, you should see your iPhone restart.

Step 11: Set Up iOS 14

Now, just walk through the on-screen instructions on your iPhone to set up iOS 14. Open the App Store to see what updates you might have . Some apps should already have iOS 14-ready updates, although it might take some time. Developers were blindsided by Apple's last-minute iOS 14 announcement, so expect some of your apps to update in the coming days.

How to use Files in iOS 14 to manage Safari downloads, local device storage, and external drives

Your email has been sent

Image of Cory Bohon

The Files app has grown into a full-fledged document and file management app with the latest iOS releases, iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. You can now easily copy files between multiple file services, download files locally, and even connect up removable storage to copy files to and from.

In this article, we’ll delve into how to manage internet downloads from Safari, configure the local location in the Files app, and copy or move files to and from removable storage from local storage.

SEE: Software as a Service (SaaS): A cheat sheet (free PDF) (TechRepublic)

How to manage your local storage

iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 allow you to easily manage local storage. Local storage is a place where files can be stored locally on the SSD or device without storing it on a file sharing service or iCloud Drive.

Before you can begin storing files locally, you first need to enable the local storage inside of the Files app. To do this, perform these steps:

  • Open the Files app on your iOS device.
  • Select the “…” button in the sidebar on iPadOS, or in the root of the Browse tab on iOS.
  • Select Edit / Edit Sidebar.
  • Enable the switch for On My iPhone/iPad ( Figure A ).

safari ios 14 download

Once you’ve done this, a new location will be added to the sidebar called On My iPhone/iPad. Tapping on this location will present you with the contents of the local file system. Folders for apps that have files stored locally will appear. In this location, you can create a new folder by tapping the Folder+ at the top of the screen.

You can easily copy files to this location from iCloud Drive or another service by tapping and dragging from the other service into this local location. The files added here will be stored on the device and if you go offline, they will still be available for manipulation without any need to rely on an internet connection.

This is a great place to store books, PDFs, or other documents that need to be frequently accessed when offline.

How to download files from Safari

Newer versions of Safari, including the one in iOS 13 and 14, can let you easily download files, such as zip files, PDFs, and more. To download a file in Safari, just tap on a download link on a website or tap and hold on a link and then tap Download Linked File ( Figure B ).

safari ios 14 download

If you have an iCloud Drive account, by default, this will cause the files to be downloaded to a Downloads folder contained in your iCloud Drive account. However, you can change this setting so that the files are downloaded locally to your iPhone or iPad.

To change the download location in Safari, perform these steps:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Navigate to Safari | Downloads.
  • Select On My iPhone/iPad as the location to store downloaded files ( Figure C ).

safari ios 14 download

Once a file is downloaded, it will be available in the Files app at the selected location.

Inside of this Downloads view, you can also choose to clean up and remove downloaded list items. This is not removing the file itself, but rather the list items that appear when tapping the Download button in Safari’s toolbar. We tend to keep this on Upon Successful Download.

How to use removable storage

To use removable storage, you’ll first need to plug in the drive to your iPad or iPhone. To do this, you’ll either need a USB-C or Lightning compatible thumb drive, or use an adapter.

If you’re using an iPad with USB-C, then you can easily use any USB-C hub adapter to connect an external drive; if you’re using an iPad with a Lightning port or iPhone, then get the Apple Camera Connection Kit , and you can easily plug in a thumb drive or external drive. You may have issues with some iPad or iPhone models if you’re connecting an external drive that requires power to operate. Some iPhone and iPad models will only supply limited power over the Lightning port.

Once you’ve plugged in the adapter, then your external drive, open the Files app, and you’ll notice that your drive will automatically appear under the Locations section in the sidebar on iPadOS or the Browse tab in iOS ( Figure D ).

safari ios 14 download

This works just like any other file location and you can easily tap, hold, and drag files to and from this location to your iPad, or vice versa. You can also drag files from cloud storage locations like iCloud Drive onto the external storage location.

Using IPSW files, you can restore the stock firmware onto Apple devices. Here are the latest iOS 14 based IPSW restore files for downloads. You can use iTunes on macOS and Windows to flash IPSW file format for iOS firmware.

The iOS 14 OTA update has already started rolling out from 10am PST (1pm EDT) on September 16, 2020. However, for some reason if your device didn’t get the official software update yet, you can download the IPSW images and flash it onto your iPhone and iPad. There could be several reasons why you wouldn’t receive an OTA update. As it could be a phased rollout, it may not have reached your device just yet. How to download files using safari on your iphone or ipad.

Need to quickly download a file on your iPhone or iPad? Here's how you can do this using Safari or a third-party app.

Quick Links

How to download files using safari, how to the change default download location, alternative for ios 12 users: documents 5 by readdle.

In your work or personal life, you'll sometimes need to download a file on your iPhone or iPad. Using the new feature introduced in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13, you can now do this directly in Safari. No third-party app needed!

Safari's download manager is a hidden new feature in the  iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 updates. If you're going about your day, browsing the web, you probably won't be aware of the feature. Instead, it comes up when you tap on a download link.

Go to a web page and find the link for a file you want to download. When you select it, you'll see a popup with the filename asking if you want to download it. Tap on the "Download" button.

The download will start, and you'll see a new "Downloads" button appear next to the address bar at the top of the browser. Tap on the button to reveal all current downloads. From here, you can monitor the progress of multiple downloads.

If you want to stop a download at any time, simply tap on the "X" button.

Once the download is finished, tap on the file to preview it. If you've downloaded a media file, image, or a PDF, you'll be able to see it in the preview window.

You can then share the file to any app. Tap on the "Share" button from the bottom-left corner.

Press the "Search" icon next to the filename in the Downloads section to open the file.

Once you open the file in the Files app, you can tap and hold on the file to reveal the menu.

From here, tap on "Delete" to delete the file.

By default, the downloaded files are saved to the Downloads folder in iCloud Drive in the Files app. This is a great option if you have a paid iCloud storage plan  because it allows your downloaded files to instantly sync across all your devices.

But if you're on the free, 5GB tier, you might not have space for storing large files.

Thankfully, you can change the default location to local storage. Open the "Settings" app and go to Safari > Downloads. If you can't find the browser on your phone, try using Apple's Spotlight search to locate it.

Here, switch the selection to "On My iPhone" or "On My iPad" depending on your device.

By default, Safari will pick the "Downloads" folder. You can change this by tapping on the "Other" option to select any folder from the local storage (or from a cloud storage option).

The new download manager in Safari is exclusive to iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and above. If you haven't updated to the latest OS (which you should), or if you're in a situation where you can't update, here's a workaround for you.

Try using the free Documents 5 app by Readdle . It's an all-in-one browser and file manager app.

Open the Documents 5 app and tap on the "Browser" button in the bottom-right corner to switch to the browser mode.

Now, navigate to the page with the download link and tap on it. From the next screen, select the folder where you want to download the file and tap on "Done."

The download will now start. You can tap on the "Downloads" tab to view all downloads.

Tap on the "Files" button from the bottom-left corner to switch to the file manager. From here, tap on the "Downloads" folder to see your downloaded file. You can tap on the download to preview it in the app. Tap on the "Menu" button to view options for opening the file in another app.

Safari's download manager is just one of the many new features in iOS 13. Take a look at our list of the  best iOS 13 features to learn more.

macOS Big Sur Safari

Apple has released the latest version of its Safari browser for macOS Catalina and High Sierra, ahead of the release of Big Sur later this year. Safari 14 improves the browser’s tabs, adds a new privacy report feature, and offers new customization options for your start page. You can download it by heading to System Preferences app and clicking “Software Update.”

One of the key improvements that’s coming with the latest version of Safari is improved tab management . The tabs themselves have been redesigned to be more space-efficient, display website favicons by default, and show a preview of each tab while hovering your mouse over them. There’s a new start page which you can customize with your own backgrounds and links, and a Privacy Report that highlights any cross-site trackers that the browser is blocking. Oh, and this version of the browser also removes support for Adobe Flash.

Some new Safari features will require macOS Big Sur to run, and aren’t available if you’re updating Safari on an older version of the operating system, 9to5Mac reports . These include support for 4K HDR video, and the browser’s built-in translation feature.

Yesterday saw the release of a swathe of Apple operating system updates , including iOS 14 for iPhones, iPadOS 14 for iPads, tvOS 14 for the Apple TV, and watchOS 7 for Apple Watches. You’ve still got a little longer to wait to update your Mac, but at least you can grab the new browser now.

How to Change Safari Download Location on iPhone 14: A Step-by-Step Guide

Changing the Safari download location on your iPhone 14 is a piece of cake! With a few taps in the Settings app, you can decide where your files go when you download them from the internet. This means no more cluttered Downloads folder—instead, you can send files straight to iCloud Drive, your iPhone, or even a connected external drive. Ready to get organized? Let’s dive in!

Step by Step Tutorial: Changing Safari Download Location on iPhone 14

Before we get into the nitty-gritty, understand that this process allows you to better manage your downloads. You can save space on your device, access files across multiple devices, or ensure that important downloads are stored in a specific location.

Step 1: Open the Settings App

The first thing you need to do is open the Settings app on your iPhone 14.

The Settings app is your control center for all things iPhone. It’s the app with gears as its icon, and you can usually find it on your home screen.

Step 2: Scroll Down and Tap Safari

Once you’re in Settings, scroll down until you find Safari and give it a tap.

Safari settings are where you can adjust all your browser preferences, from privacy settings to how pages are displayed.

Step 3: Tap Downloads

In Safari settings, you’ll see an option that says ‘Downloads.’ Go ahead and tap that.

This is the place where you can see the current download location and change it if needed.

Step 4: Select Your Desired Download Location

Here you’ll see options like ‘iCloud Drive,’ ‘On My iPhone,’ or even a connected external drive. Tap the one you want to use.

Choosing iCloud Drive will sync your downloads across all your Apple devices, while selecting ‘On My iPhone’ will save them directly to your device’s local storage.

After you’ve changed your download location, all future files you download through Safari will automatically go to the new location you’ve set. Say goodbye to endless searching for that PDF you downloaded last week—it’ll be right where you expect it!

Tips for Changing Safari Download Location on iPhone 14

  • Make sure you have enough space in your chosen download location. You don’t want to start a download only to find out there’s no room!
  • Consider using iCloud Drive if you use multiple Apple devices. This way, you can access your downloads from any device.
  • Remember, if you choose an external drive as your download location, it needs to be connected to your iPhone to access the files.
  • If you’re concerned about privacy, choose ‘On My iPhone’ to keep your downloads off the cloud.
  • Don’t forget to regularly clear out your download location to prevent it from getting too cluttered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can i change the download location to a specific folder within icloud drive or on my iphone.

Yes, you can choose a specific folder within these locations by tapping on the current location and then selecting a different folder.

What happens if I don’t have enough storage space in my chosen download location?

If there’s not enough space, the download will fail. You’ll need to free up space or choose a different location with more available storage.

Can I move files after they’ve been downloaded?

Absolutely! Just like any other file on your iPhone, you can move downloaded files to a different location using the Files app.

Will changing the download location affect files I’ve downloaded previously?

No, it will only affect files you download after you’ve made the change. Previous downloads will remain in their original location.

Can I save downloads directly to a cloud service other than iCloud Drive?

Currently, the only cloud service you can save to directly from Safari is iCloud Drive. To use other services, you’ll need to move the files manually after downloading them.

  • Open Settings
  • Scroll and tap Safari
  • Tap Downloads
  • Choose a download location

So there you have it—changing the Safari download location on your iPhone 14 is as simple as that! This small but mighty tweak can make a world of difference in how you manage your files and keep your digital space tidy. Whether you’re downloading work documents, school assignments, or just saving those funny cat videos for offline viewing, knowing where your files go is crucial.

Remember, staying organized with your downloads not only helps you find files faster but also prevents your device from getting cluttered with unnecessary data. Take control of your Safari downloads today and enjoy the freedom of having your files exactly where you want them.

Rumor: iOS 18 to include new ‘Safari browsing assistant’ AI feature

Avatar for Chance Miller

iOS 18 is rumored to include a number of new artificial intelligence features spread across the entire operating system. A new rumor today suggests that one of those features could be “Safari browsing assistant.”

As for what that means, we are left to speculation for now…

Safari browsing assistant rumored for iOS 18

In a post on social media today, code sleuth Nicolás Álvarez shared two new features in the works at Apple:

  • Safari browsing assistant
  • Encrypted visual search

According to Álvarez, both of these features use Apple’s Private Relay infrastructure to send data back to Apple. Álvarez speculates that this is a privacy-preserving practice on Apple’s part, so it doesn’t learn user IP addresses. Of note, iCloud Private Relay is currently only available to iCloud+ subscribers.

( Update : Álvarez says that it’s not actually iCloud Private Relay but rather an “Oblivious HTTP gateway.”)

Apple already offers different visual search-style features, integrated into Spotlight and the Photos app. It’s not explicitly clear if “encrypted visual search” is just a more secure version of existing features or something new entirely.

The more interesting thing here is the “Safari browsing assistant” feature. Based solely on the name, this feature sounds like it will bring AI features of some sort to Safari, similar to what other browsers already offer. Microsoft’s Edge browser, for example, has different Copilot AI features built in. Arc from The Browser Company also combines a variety of AI features with web browsing.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is likely to team up with a company such as Google to power some of its new AI features. We aren’t expecting any announcement from Apple about a partnership until WWDC at the earliest.

iOS 18 is expected to be announced at WWDC, which kicks off on June 10. Check out our in-depth guide for more details on what to expect from AI in iOS 18 .

Álvarez has also reported that iOS 18 will bring two new features to Apple Maps on iPhone, including custom route creation and new topographic maps.

iOS 18 rumored to have a mysterious Safari Browsing Assistant feature

Apple is a few months away from introducing the new features it will be including in iOS 18 at WWDC 2024. As the rumor mill ramps up ahead of the event, two new features have surfaced that could improve how users browse the internet.

According to Nicolas Alvarez on X, the features are titled "Safari browsing assistant" and "Encrypted visual search." Alvarez doesn't go into detail about the features of each, but does say that they each appear to use the Private Relay infrastructure to send data to Apple.

Though actual details of the features remain unknown, the names do at least offer some hint as to what they could be.

Coming in iOS 18: - "Safari browsing assistant" - "Encrypted visual search" Both features seem to use the Private Relay infrastructure to send data to Apple (so that they don't know your IP?). — Nicols lvarez (@nicolas09F9) April 10, 2024

The Safari Browsing Assistant could is naturally linked to Safari itself, but the name may mean some sort of intelligent help could be summoned for users trying to accomplish tasks. Since Apple has been working on AI and machine learning, there's a good chance the technologies will be in play here.

The other, Encrypted Visual Search, could be an evolution of existing search systems available in its operating systems. For example, Spotlight does allow for the content of images to be found, while Visual Look Up offers more information about items detected in images.

Alvarez is uncertain as to what exactly is being changed with Encrypted Visual Search, other than "better privacy" for users. However, Visual Search has also been mentioned in visionOS , albeit not used in the software itself.

It's also entirely plausible that it could be Apple attempting to provide an image-based search system, similar to the function in Google Image Search. But, since Apple doesn't want to offer a full-blown search engine to the public just yet, this seems a little doubtful.

Other recently discovered features include Apple Maps routes , a redesign inspired by visionOS, and more home screen customizations .

iOS 18 could bring a Safari browsing assistant, but little is known at this time

Safari Browsing Assistant is rumored to be part of a set of generative AI features thought to be coming to iPhone with the iOS 18 update this fall.

Illustration showing an Apple Safari logo set against a blue gradient background

Nicolás Álvarez discovered code on Apple’s servers, indicating that some kind of a browsing assistant is coming to the Safari browser with iOS 18. MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris has confirmed the existence of the code.

Álvarez said the feature appears to use iCloud Private Relay (which requires an iCloud+ subscription) to send data to Apple without compromising user privacy.

iOS 18 rumors ramping up ahead of WWDC24

Little is known at this point how Safari Browsing Assistant might work. It sounds like some kind of an AI-based feature to summarize pages.

We’ll soon know what new features might be coming down the pike when iOS 18 launches this fall. Apple will hold its yearly developer event in a few weeks, kicking it off with a pre-taped keynote broadcast on June 10.

Apple will release the first developer betas of iOS 18 and other updates that afternoon. In July, the betas should be available for testing to the general public.

Apple will continue releasing betas throughout the summer to smooth out the rough edges, eliminate bugs and incorporate feedback from testers. iOS 18 should launch before new iPhones in September.

What to expect from iOS 18?

Other changes in iOS 18 are said to include topographic maps and custom routes , support for the RCS standard in the Messages app for improved chatting between iPhone and Android, the ability to arrange Home Screen icons more freely , hearing aid mode for AirPods Pro and light design tweaks .

The biggest news should be the rumored generative AI improvements across not only Siri but also stock apps and the iWork productivity suite. They could be based on large language models Apple is thought to license from Google  and Baidu .

iOS 18 May Feature All-New 'Safari Browsing Assistant'

iOS 18 will apparently feature a new Safari browsing assistant, according to backend code on Apple's servers discovered by Nicolás Álvarez . MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris confirmed that the code exists, but not many details are known at this time.

iOS 18 WWDC 24 Feature 2

Update: Álvarez has since said that iCloud Private Relay might not be related to this feature.

A browsing assistant in Safari could be one of the many new generative AI features that are rumored to be coming to the iPhone with iOS 18 later this year. There are already multiple iPhone web browsers with AI tools, such as Microsoft Edge with a GPT-4-powered Copilot and Arc Search , which can summarize web pages to provide concise information.

Álvarez also uncovered a so-called "Encrypted Visual Search" feature in the backend code on Apple's servers, but no specific details are known. MacRumors contributor Steve Moser last year discovered a new Visual Search feature for Apple's Vision Pro headset in visionOS beta code, which would allow users to copy and paste printed text from the real world into apps and more, but the feature has yet to launch. It is possible that Apple is planning to debut a more secure version of the feature. However, the code could also relate to the iPhone's existing Visual Look Up feature that can identify objects in photos and videos.

Apple is set to unveil iOS 18 during its WWDC keynote on June 10 , so we should learn more about these potential new features in a few more months.

Apple to introduce new Safari browser assistant for iPhones with iOS 18

The upcoming ios 18 is poised to be the most significant advancement in iphone's evolution yet with a new safari browsing assistant being one of the key features..

Listen to Story

Safari

Interestingly, the hint at the integration of a browsing assistant in Safari is in line with ongoing speculations about new generative AI features slated for release on the iPhone with iOS 18. If it's true, the AI assistance will be similar to the feature. It's worth noting that AI capabilities are already present in several, such as Microsoft Edge, which includes a Copilot feature powered by GPT-4 and Arc Search.

In addition, lvarez spotted a function named "Encrypted Visual Search" in the code, but its specifics are still unclear.

Apart from the rumoured AI assistant improvements, iOS 18 is expected to bring several significant updates. We can anticipate AI integration across various iOS applications.

For example, Apple Music might curate personalised playlists based on your listening habits, while stock apps like Mail and Notes could gain AI-powered features for improved functionality. Siri, once sluggish, is set for a substantial upgrade with the integration of large language models (LLMs). This will transform it into a comprehensive "ultimate virtual assistant" with improved conversational capabilities and deeper Shortcuts integration.

iPhone users might finally be able to ditch the limitations of iMessage and enjoy features like enhanced video quality and read receipts when messaging Android users through rumoured RCS support. iOS 18 might also grant you more control over the home screen just like an Android phone. Speculations suggest the ability to create blank spaces and customise icon arrangements for a truly personalised experience.

Apple might introduce "Adaptive Voice Shortcuts" and potentially allow adjustable font sizes across more apps with iOS 18. The AirPods Pro could even gain functionality similar to hearing aids. Apple Maps might become more competitive with features like custom route planning and potentially the addition of topographic maps for outdoor enthusiasts.

While Apple hasn't officially confirmed which iPhones will support iOS 18, rumours suggest a wide range of devices, including many models from 2018 and later, could be eligible. This could potentially include the iPhone XS and XR, although that remains uncertain.

Privacy is built in.

Online privacy isn’t just something you should hope for — it’s something you should expect. That’s why Safari comes with industry-leading privacy protection technology built in, including Intelligent Tracking Prevention that identifies trackers and helps prevent them from profiling or following you across the web. Upgrading to iCloud+ gives you even more privacy protections, including the ability to sign up for websites and services without having to share your personal email address.

safari ios 14 download

Intelligent Tracking Prevention

safari ios 14 download

Safari stops trackers in their tracks.

What you browse is no one’s business but your own. Safari has built‑in protections to help stop websites and data-collection companies from watching and profiling you based on your browsing activity. Intelligent Tracking Prevention uses on-device intelligence to help prevent cross-site tracking and stops known trackers from using your IP address — making it incredibly difficult to learn who you are and what you’re interested in.

Privacy Report

Safari makes it simple to see how your privacy is protected on all the websites you visit. Click Privacy Report in the Safari menu for a snapshot of cross-site trackers currently prevented from profiling you on the website you’re visiting. Customisation

Putting the you in url..

Safari is more customisable than ever. Organise your tabs into Tab Groups so it’s easy to go from one interest to the next. Set a custom background image and fine-tune your browser window with your favourite features — like Reading List, Favourites, iCloud Tabs and Siri Suggestions. And third-party extensions for iPhone, iPad and Mac let you do even more with Safari, so you can browse the way you want across all your devices.

safari ios 14 download

Safari Profiles allow you to separate your history, extensions, Tab Groups, favourites, cookies and more. Quickly switch between profiles for topics you create, like Personal and Work.

safari ios 14 download

Web apps let you save your favourite websites to the Dock on Mac and to the Home Screen on iPhone and iPad. A simplified toolbar and separate settings give you an app-like experience.

Safari Extensions add functionality to your browser to help you explore the web the way you want. Find and add your favourite extensions in the dedicated Safari category on the App Store.

safari ios 14 download

Save and organise your tabs in the way that works best for you. Name your Tab Groups, edit them, and switch between them across devices. You can also share Tab Groups — making planning your next family trip or group project easier and more collaborative.

Smart Tools

Designed to help your work flow..

Built-in tools create a browsing experience that’s far more immersive, intuitive and immediate. Get detailed information about a subject in a photo with just a click, select text within any image, instantly translate an entire web page, and quickly take notes wherever you are on a site — without having to switch apps.

safari ios 14 download

Notes is your go-to app to capture any thought. And with the Quick Note feature, you can instantly jot down ideas as you browse websites without having to leave Safari.

safari ios 14 download

Surf safe and sound.

Strong security protections in Safari help keep you safe. Passkeys introduce a safer way to sign in. iCloud Keychain securely stores and autofills passkeys and passwords across all your devices. Safari also notifies you when it encounters suspicious websites and prevents them from loading. Because it loads each web page in a separate process, any harmful code is always confined to a single browser tab so it won’t crash the entire application or access your data. And Safari automatically upgrades sites from HTTP to the more secure HTTPS when available.

safari ios 14 download

Passkeys introduce a more secure and easier way to sign in. No passwords required.

Passkeys are end-to-end encrypted and safe from phishing and data leaks, and they are stronger than all common two-factor authentication types. Thanks to iCloud Keychain, they work across all your Apple devices, and they even work on non-Apple devices.

Apple Pay and Wallet make checkout as easy as lifting a finger.

Apple Pay is the easiest and most secure way to shop on Safari — allowing you to complete transactions with Face ID or Touch ID on your iPhone or iPad, with Touch ID on your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, or by double-clicking the side button on your Apple Watch.

Learn more about Apple Pay

With AutoFill, you can easily fill in your previously saved credit card information from the Wallet app during checkout. Your credit card details are never shared, and your transactions are protected with industry-leading security.

Same Safari. Different device.

Safari works seamlessly and syncs your passwords, bookmarks, history, tabs and more across Mac, iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch. And when your Mac, iOS or iPadOS devices are near each other, they can automatically pass what you’re doing in Safari from one device to another using Handoff. You can even copy images, video or text from Safari on your iPhone or iPad, then paste into another app on your nearby Mac — or vice versa.

safari ios 14 download

When you use Safari on multiple devices, your tabs carry over from one Apple device to another. So you can search, shop, work or browse on your iPhone, then switch to your iPad or Mac and pick up right where you left off.

Save web pages you want to read later by adding them to your Reading List. Then view them on any of your iCloud-connected devices — even if you’re not connected to the internet.

iCloud Keychain securely stores your usernames, passkeys, passwords and credit card numbers, and keeps them up to date on your trusted devices. So you can easily sign in to your favourite websites — as well as apps on iOS and iPadOS — and quickly make online purchases.

safari ios 14 download

Designed for developers.

Deep WebKit integration between Mac hardware and macOS allows Safari to deliver the fastest performance and the longest battery life of any browser on the platform, while supporting modern web standards for rich experiences in the browser. WebKit in macOS Sonoma includes optimisations that enable even richer browsing experiences, and give developers more control over styling and layout — allowing for more engaging content.

Make Safari your default browser

Customise your start page, view your browsing privacy report, monitor your saved passwords, use apple pay in safari, view your tabs across all your devices, read the safari user guide, get safari support.
