PONTE VERDE BEACH, Fla. — Canadian golf executive Scott Pritchard has been named the new head of the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada.

The PGA Tour announced executive restructuring of its two international tours Friday.

Todd Rhinehart, who had been leading both the Mackenzie Tour and the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, will now focus solely on the Latin-American circuit.

Pritchard joined the Canadian Tour, the predecessor to the Mackenzie Tour, as an executive in 2011. After the PGA acquired the Canadian Tour and established the Mackenzie Tour, Pritchard was named director of tournament business affairs for the tour’s first full season in 2013. He was promoted to vice-president in March 2017.

Prior to joining the Canadian Tour, Pritchard worked in a number of roles for the PGA of Canada between 2003 and 2011 after graduating from the University of Ottawa.

"I am both excited and grateful for this opportunity to lead the Mackenzie Tour," Pritchard said in a statement. "I know what a great Tour it is, and so do our players, who have consistently used this Tour as their path to their ultimate goal, which is the PGA TOUR.

"To be a part of this and lead our dedicated team is truly an honour. There is much to do, I look forward to all the hard work ahead and appreciate what Todd did during his time in Canada and Jeff Monday before him."

The Mackenzie Tour, a series of tournaments played each summer across Canada and the United States, is a feeder circuit for the Korn Ferry Tour. The leading 10 money-winners at the end of each season earn status on the Korn Ferry, which is one step below the PGA Tour.

Scott Pritchard tabbed to lead Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada

Scott Pritchard

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida —Two of the PGA TOUR’s International Tours announced executive restructuring April 24, with Canadian Scott Pritchard elevated to the head of the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada, while previous Mackenzie Tour head Todd Rhinehart, who has been leading both the Mackenzie Tour and PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, will put all his focus and efforts on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.

“During the last year, we have gone through a transition phase on both Tours due to the retirements of two experienced and long-time leaders in Jeff Monday in Canada and Jack Warfield in Latin America,” said the PGA TOUR’s Rob Ohno, Senior Vice President, International Tours. “It has also been an interesting two months as we’ve dealt with the COVID-19 issue that has affected the entire world. Scott has been such an asset in Canada, and we’ll benefit from Todd giving his full attention to issues in Latin America. With Scott and Todd at the top of this new structure, we feel both of these Tours are well-positioned to grow and continue to offer up-and-coming players strong places to play where they can further their careers once we start playing golf again. We have two outstanding leaders who will see that this happens.”

Pritchard has spent his entire career working in the golf industry. After graduating from the University of Ottawa, he worked for the PGA of Canada in a variety of roles, between 2003 and 2011. In April 2011, Pritchard accepted the position of Director of Business Development and Communications for the Canadian Tour. When the PGA TOUR established the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada in 2012, the Tour’s first full season in 2013, Pritchard joined the new Tour as its Director, Tournament Business Affairs. In March 2017, Pritchard became the Tour’s Vice President, a position he held for a little more than three years.

“I am both excited and grateful for this opportunity to lead the Mackenzie Tour. I know what a great Tour it is, and so do our players, who have consistently used this Tour as their path to their ultimate goal, which is the PGA TOUR. To be a part of this and lead our dedicated team is truly an honor. There is much to do, I look forward to all the hard work ahead and appreciate what Todd did during his time in Canada and Jeff Monday before him,” Pritchard said.

In early 2019, Rhinehart took over the day-to-day operations of the Mackenzie Tour after Monday’s retirement and then temporarily added PGA TOUR Latinoamérica responsibilities upon Warfield’s retirement. Pritchard worked closely with Rhinehart as Rhinehart made the transition back to North America after living in Malaysia for the previous seven years as the PGA TOUR’s CIMB Classic Executive Director.

Said Ohno, “We can’t thank Todd enough for the heavy load he carried for a few months, leading and guiding both Tours, and I’m grateful that Scott comes into this new position extremely qualified, having handled so many different parts of the business and seeing the Tour operation from so many perspectives.

“We have been very impressed with Scott’s growth and achievements on the Mackenzie Tour over the years,” Ohno continued, “and nobody knows this Tour better than Scott. The passion he brings to work every day makes him a perfect fit to run the day-to-day operations of this Tour.”

Along with the seasons of all other International Federation of PGA Tour members, the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada season is currently suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pritchard and his team continue working on amended 2020 strategies and plan to unveil a new tournament schedule in the coming weeks.

The Masters 2024

Nine Canadian stops included in newly unveiled PGA Tour Americas schedule

New circuit streamlining PGA Tour’s developmental system will have a strong Canadian contingent of events, including a stop in New Brunswick.

scott pritchard pga tour canada

The PGA Tour’s new Double-A circuit, PGA Tour Americas, has unveiled a 2024 schedule with a significant Canadian presence.

A 16-tournament slate split into Latin and North American swings will contain nine Canadian stops, including visits to familiar places such as Victoria (Uplands GC), Edmonton (Northern Bear GC), Saskatchewan (Elk Ridge Resort), Winnipeg (Southwood G&CC), Windsor, Ont., (Ambassador GC), the Toronto area (TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley), Ottawa (Eagle Creek GC) and Quebec (Chateau Bromont).

The schedule will also include a stop in New Brunswick at the provincially owned and operated Mactaquac Golf Course on the St. John River near Fredericton. It will be the first PGA Tour-sanctioned tournament played in that province.

Plans for PGA Tour Americas — the amalgamation of PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica — were announced in April , turning two feeder tours into one with the aim of eliminating schedule conflicts that had arisen through the years as players navigated their way up pro golf’s ladder.

Its creation signalled the end of a domestic golf circuit in Canada that could trace its roots to the 1960s, first under title sponsor Carling and then Imperial Tobacco as the Peter Jackson Tour. However, Scott Pritchard, who previously headed up PGA Tour Canada and is now vice-president of PGA Tour Americas, believes the new circuit will pay bigger dividends for Canadian golf down the road than its predecessors. It’s worth noting the 2023 PGA Tour Canada schedule also had nine Canadian stops.

“PGA Tour Americas is something bigger. We’re part of something bigger now. This is an international tour that plays across eight countries and will be one of the most competitive tours in the world,” stated Pritchard. “If it wasn’t for the foundation that was built, going back to Carling and Peter Jackson and the Canadian Tour and then ultimately PGA Tour Canada, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to be something bigger. And I think from a Canadian player perspective, if you talk to (Golf Canada head men’s coach) Derek Ingram or any other coaches, they’ll say to become a world-class player you need to play against world-class talent and this opportunity for the players to be part of something bigger is potentially going to produce, and I think will produce, more Canadians on the PGA Tour.”

While attributing the schedule’s strong Canadian presence to both the success of returning events and key sponsor Fortinet’s interest in growing its presence north of the border, Pritchard noted his excitement over the New Brunswick stop. The last time the old Canadian Tour played a tournament in that province was the 1992 Priority Courier Atlantic Classic, also at Mactaquac, where future PGA Tour regulars Ian Leggatt, Grant Waite and Chris DiMarco were among the top-10 finishers. The event will be called the Omnium Explore NB Open, sponsored by Tourism New Brunswick, which signed a multi-year deal.

“Obviously we’ve got a proven track record of being able to deliver what destination marketing organizations are looking for,” said Pritchard, noting New Brunswick’s successful co-hosting of the 2023 World Junior Hockey Championship has led to it increasing sport tourism spending. “They have a golf course in Mactaquac that, outside of the Maritimes, is relatively unknown and it’s a really good golf course. The layout is really solid and they want to expose their offerings, not only the golf course, but they have a great food scene in New Brunswick, in Fredericton in particular, and so they want to use this event to highlight what New Brunswick has to offer.”

Another highly anticipated event is the season-ending Fortinet Cup Championship on TPC Toronto’s North Course, which is currently undergoing an extensive renovation at the hands of Ian Andrew with an eye towards hosting one or more future RBC Canadian Opens . The event could therefore serve as a test run of sorts and means the Osprey Valley Open, on PGA Tour Canada’s schedule since 2018, will take a one-year hiatus.

The season will begin March 21 in Mexico, followed by stops in Brazil — where competitors will tackle the Olympic Course built for golf in the 2016 Summer Games — Argentina, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia before breaking for a month. The North American swing will begin June 20 in Victoria and wrap the first weekend of September.

scott pritchard pga tour canada

Here is how PGA Tour Americas will operate:

• The top-60 players from last year’s PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica points lists have full status through the six events in Latin America. Additional eligibility for those events will come via PGA Tour Q-School’s Final Stage (finishers 41-60).

• The top-60 players on the Fortinet Cup standings after the Latin swing will earn full status for the North American swing, with the top two also earning conditional Korn Ferry Tour status for 2025.

• Six qualifying schools yielding 54 full cards (top nine at each site) and 96 conditional cards (finishers 10 through 25 at each site) will be held after the Latin swing to determine additional player eligibility for the North American stops.

• Players ranked six to 25 on the PGA Tour University ranking will also earn entry into the 10 North American events.

• The Fortinet Cup Championship will be limited to the top 120 players in the standings.

• The top-10 players at season’s end will receive full 2025 Korn Ferry Tour status and share a $100,000 (all figures US) bonus pool with the leading points earner taking home $25,000.

• The top-three players from the North American swing will earn 2025 conditional Korn Ferry Tour status.

• All tournaments will feature $225,000 purses.

How to watch the the Texas Open 2024 online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the tournament locally, you may need a different way to watch -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the tournament. So if your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, nonblackout area. Most VPNs, like our Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Quick tips for streaming the Texas Open 2024 using a VPN

  • With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- your experience and success when streaming may vary.
  • If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
  • If you're having trouble getting the tournament after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend  Brave .

Despite Monday’s total solar eclipse that was experienced by tens of millions of people across North America, a rare celestial event isn’t required to see stars in the daytime at Augusta National Golf Club. That’s because it’s time for the Masters.

A field of 89 has assembled for the 88th edition of the first major of the year. What it faces, what it’s chasing and an early peek at the weather are detailed below.

Unlike the Masters that is contested annually, the next total eclipse in North America won’t occur until August of 2044, and it’ll be viewed best primarily in Canada. To put some perspective on how long you’ll have to wait for that, five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods will be 68 years of age when it happens.

A 48-year-old Woods is committed to the Masters this week. He’s in his 26th appearance. If he could apportion even one week’s worth of that experience to any of the 20 debutants alongside, there wouldn’t be a rejection among the lot. Each knows that Fuzzy Zoeller is the most recent first-timer to win the green jacket, and that was when Woods was 3 in 1979. The only other two who have done it are Horton Smith and Gene Sarazen in the first two editions in 1934 and 1935, respectively.

Course history aside, the entire field will be playing the latest iteration of the par-5 second hole for the first time. With an increase of 10 yards, the dogleg left now tips at 585 yards, thus pushing the overall course length to 7,555 yards. It’s the longest Augusta National ever has read on the scorecard.

The major modification in advance of last year’s tournament was a new tee on the par-5 13th hole that extended it by 35 yards. It’s only one spin of a sample size, but the hole transitioned from the second-hardest par 5 to the hardest, yet its scoring average of 4.736 was lower than it was in in 2022. That’s due in part to the fact that the course was a stroke easier last year overall. The field averaged 72.960.

Score has relevance in the history books and in real-time analysis, but all that matters ultimately is the trophy.

As always on this track, course management in the context of the position on approach is at a premium, and that includes at the cost of distance off the tee. Although Augusta National can play open for the longest hitters, it’s a second-shot track that demands a, well, master's degree in geometry. It’s all about the angles.

A unique cut of low 50 and ties will occur at the conclusion of 36 holes. All who survive will play to the finish line. Among the boatload of benefits, the champion will received a lifetime exemption into the tournament, exemptions into all of the other majors through 2028, a PGA TOUR membership exemption through 2029 and 750 FedExCup points.

When he slips on the newest addition to his wardrobe on Sunday, the winner is promised to have enjoyed a wonderful walk thanks to fantastic weather conditions with a daytime high eclipsing 80 degrees. However, the tournament won’t start out that way as Thursday’s forecast is dicey. Rain, the probability of storms and gusty winds all are lined up. Precipitation will have ceased by Friday, but breezes will stick around. Saturday’s third round will be serene by comparison and probably the best of the bunch as the temperature will climb only into the mid-70s.

NOTE: ShotLink is not utilized for this tournament.
