Critically-acclaimed band Smashing Pumpkins made waves during the ‘90s and notably sold over 30 million albums worldwide. They performed a highly experimental form of alternative rock music with influences from various genres, such as goth, shoegaze, pop, and heavy metal. The band found commercial success upon releasing their sophomore album, Siamese Dream. The 1993 record entered the Billboard 200, peaking at number 10. With incredible singles like “Cherub Rock,” “Today,” “Disarm,” and “Rocket,” the effort was defined by critics as one of the finest alternative rock albums of the 1990s.”

The band’s follow-up album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, was released two years later and catapulted their success to new heights. The album topped the Billboard 200 and charted in 20 other countries. The career-defining record spawned the Grammy Award-winning single “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” and several more massive hits, such as “Tonight Tonight,” “1979,” and “Zero.” The album later sold over ten million copies in the U.S., earning a diamond certification. Moreover, the record impressively earned seven Grammy nominations. The same year, Smashing Pumpkins released a single, “The End is the Beginning is the End,” for the Batman and Robin official soundtrack. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance the following year.

Special guest Stone Temple Pilots is also a commercially successful band with 18 million albums sold worldwide. Like Smashing Pumpkins, the band rose to prominence in the ‘90s. Led by the illustrious Scott Weiland, Stone Temple Pilots released several chart-performing records, including their eight-time platinum-selling debut album, Core. The 1992 album spawned the classic alternative hits “Plush,” “Sex Type Thing,” and “Creep.” The single “Plush” won multiple awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, and a Billboard Music Award for #1 Rock Song of the Year. The band continued to release several critically-acclaimed albums, including their number 1 album, Purple, released in 1994. In 2013, Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington took over the lead singer duties due to Weiland’s health problems. Five years later, the band brought in a lead singer Jeff Gutt after Bennington’s unfortunate passing.

The Smashing Pumpkins Announce Tour With Interpol and Stone Temple Pilots

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced a North American tour in support of their new album, Atum . The band’s The World Is a Vampire Tour will feature support from Interpol , Stone Temple Pilots , and Rival Sons. Find the Smashing Pumpkins’ tour dates below.

In a statement about the tour, the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan said:

I grew up in a world where I needed to know bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Cure existed, it meant there was a place for people like me to hang out and belong. That’s what The World Is a Vampire is about. Bringing back that sense of community. If you don't fit in, you belong here. It's about having a shared experience and respecting others, but ultimately having fun. A true alternative festival, where all the self-proclaimed weirdos and outsiders of the world can get together and have a party.

The band’s tour title, of course, gets its name from the opening line on the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness song “ Bullet With Butterfly Wings .” The Smashing Pumpkins have said that Atum —out May 5—is a sequel to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and also 2000’s Machina/Machine of God . Hear a new Atum song, “Spellbinding,” below.

Stone Temple Pilots shared their latest album, Perdida , in 2020. The record The band features original members Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz with vocalist Jeff Gutt, who took over after the deaths of singers Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington .

Interpol released The Other Side of Make-Believe last year.

Music | rainy season isn’t quite over yet as bay area braces for another cold storm, music | smashing pumpkins bring world is a vampire tour to bay area, socal, smashing pumpkins perform aug. 3 at shoreline.

The outing, dubbed the World Is a Vampire Tour, includes a Bay Area stop on Aug. 3 at Shoreline Amphitheatre at Mountain view.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. March 31, livenation.com . There is also an artist presale that runs noon March 28 to 10 p.m. March 30.

The tour also has four other California dates — Aug. 7 at Toyota Amphitheatre in Wheatland, Aug. 9 at FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine, Aug. 10 at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista and Aug. 11 at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland.

Smashing Pumpkins will be supporting the last installment of “Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts,” which is due out May 5.

Don’t want to wait until August to see the band? The Pumpkins also play at BottleRock Napa Valley on May 26, as well as perform a special small venue BottleRock Afterdark show at JaM Cellars Ballroom in Napa on May 25.

SMASHING PUMPKINS announce North American tour with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS

The Smashing Pumpkins  are hitting the road this summer. Dubbed the "World is a Vampire Tour," the grunge rockers are playing 26 dates throughout North America with  Stone Temple Pilots , Interpol and Rival Sons joining them as supporting acts. 

Kicking off July 28th and concluding September 9th, the trek will serve as the Pumpkins' first widescale tour dates in promotion of their three-part Atum album, which has been doled out in thirds since last all, with the final section arriving May 5th.

Smashing Pumpkins Book Stacked Summer 2023 Tour With Stone Temple Pilots, Interpol + Rival Sons

Smashing Pumpkins have gathered quite the lineup for their "The World Is a Vampire" tour this summer and it's time for us all to take a bite. The band will be hitting the road for 26 dates across North America, with special guests Interpol , Stone Temple Pilots and Rival Sons providing support on select dates.

In addition, Billy Corgan 's love of wrestling will also be on display as sone of the world's biggest champions from the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) will be competing in most cities on the touring run.

"The World Is a Vampire" tour already sold out a 30K capacity show in Mexico City and will be hitting Australia this spring before the summer is reserved for North America.

The artist pre-sale for the tour starts today (March 28) at 12PM local time through this Thursday (March 30) at 10PM local time. The general public on-sale then follows this Friday (March 31) at 10AM local time. Head here for all your ticketing info.

The touring news coincides with the release of another new song. "Spellbinding" received its radio debut this morning on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show . It comes from the third part of the band's ATUM album series, which is due on May 5. Act 3 features a special edition box set with 33 album tracks plus 10 additional unreleased songs. The Smashing Pumpkins Announce 2023 Tour with Interpol, Stone Temple Pilots, Rival Sons

The band also revealed a brand new song “Spellbinding”

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced an extensive summer tour with several very special guests. Beginning on July 28 at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada, The Smashing Pumpkins will mount The World Is a Vampire Tour with very special guests Interpol, Stone Temple Pilots, and Rival Sons on select dates. The trek runs through September 9, wrapping up at the Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana.

Artist pre-sale begins Tuesday, March 28 at 12pm local until Thursday, March 30 at 10pm. General on-sale starts Friday, March 31 at 10am. For more details, go to SmashingPumpkins.com/Tour .

“I grew up in a world where I needed to know bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure existed, it meant there was a place for people like me to hang out and belong,” says The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan. “That’s what The World Is A Vampire is about. Bringing back that sense of community. If you don’t fit in, you belong here. It’s about having a shared experience and respecting others, but ultimately having fun. A true alternative festival, where all the self-proclaimed weirdos and outsiders of the world can get together and have a party”

The tour is set to expand to other countries in the near future.

Additionally, The Smashing Pumpkins released a brand new single today called “Spellbinding.” The song is from the forthcoming and final ‘Act 3’ of the band’s triple-album rock opera ATUM , set for release on May 5. ‘Act 3’ will come with a special edition boxset featuring all 33 album tracks plus 10 additional unreleased songs, and is available for pre-order now  HERE .

The popular Instagram guitarist will tour the world with the alt-rock legends from June 2024

At the beginning of 2024, the Smashing Pumpkins damn-near broke the internet when they announced a worldwide open audition for an additional guitarist to replace the outgoing Jeff Schroeder , resulting in 10,000-plus applications ( this writer included ). Today, the alt-rock icons announced their new touring guitarist: Kiki Wong.

Wong is one of Instagram’s foremost shredders, with 674k followers to her name. She has performed with Taylor Swift, Usher and Bret Michaels, along with notable rock bands including Nylon Pink, Hellfire Heart, and currently, Vigil of War.

Along with a pool of finalists, chosen by frontman Billy Corgan, she auditioned in-person for the touring guitarist spot last month in Los Angeles, and ultimately won out.

Unlike Schroeder, who she replaces, Wong is being billed strictly as an “additional touring guitarist”, rather than a fulltime member of the band. She joins the core SP lineup of guitarist/frontman Corgan, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, and the live lineup of Jack Bates ( bass ) and Katie Cole (guitar, keys, vocals).

“Reviewing the work of these incredible musicians was a herculean, albeit worthy effort,” said Corgan. “First off, I really want to thank everyone who submitted materials for consideration. It wasn’t an easy decision with how much great guitar playing we were lucky enough to hear and see over the past few months.

“I was a fan of Kiki’s before she submitted her name to be considered – and it’s great that someone of her acumen will be part of our touring family. I can’t wait to hit the road with Kiki as part of our mad circus. It’s definitely an exciting moment for The Smashing Pumpkins to be this busy with touring in 2024. We’ll see you all this summer!”

Wong’s first show with the band will be at Birmingham Utilita Arena on June 7 during their co-headline tour with Weezer.

The guitarist relayed her guitar journey so far to Guitar World last year , particularly the influence of heavier styles.

“I remember the first time I got into metal,” she recalled. “My brother is 20 months older than me and has always been one of my biggest role models. When I was 12, he showed me Metallica, and I was in awe of Master of Puppets . I hadn't heard anything like it before, and it completely rewired my mind. I knew I had to learn it, but let's just say it took a few more years to get it right [laughs].”

After receiving over 10,000 applications in their nationwide search for a new guitarist , the Smashing Pumpkins revealed Friday the newest member of their band: Social media-famous guitarist Kiki Wong .

In January, the Pumpkins announced an open audition to fill the vacancy left by departing guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who had a 16-year tenure with Billy Corgan and company. Just two weeks later, the band said they received so many applications that it required “eight people working full-time to review each and every one.”

“Reviewing the work of these incredible musicians was a herculean, albeit worthy effort. First off, I really want to thank everyone who submitted materials for consideration,” Corgan said in a statement Friday.

Wong will likely make her debut with the band this summer as the Pumpkins — whose touring lineup is now Corgan, Wong, founding members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, keyboardist Katie Cole, and bassist Jack Bates, son of Joy Division/New Order’s Peter Hook — embark on a lengthy stretch of live dates that begins with a European tour with Weezer on June 7 in Birmingham, England. In late July, they’ll  return to North America for the Saviors stadium tour  alongside Green Day, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas.

Smashing Pumpkins announce new guitarist after viral search

F ollowing a viral search that included seeking open applications from the public, the Smashing Pumpkins have announced their new guitarist for their upcoming tour.

The Chicago-based rock band is welcoming Kiki Wong to join the group's current touring lineup of Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, James Iha, Jack Bates and Katie Cole.

"It's been an absolute wild ride, but I am beyond honored to be chosen to perform alongside some of rock's greatest and most influential musicians of all time. I never thought little ole 15-year-old me playing metal guitar in my bedroom would amount to this moment. It goes to show hard work and perseverance truly pays off if you're willing to push through the tough stuff, so never lose hope out there. I am so grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to share the stage with the legendary Smashing Pumpkins," Wong said.

The band announced they would be sharing more information in the coming weeks while encouraging fans to check out Wong's work and welcome her into the fold.

The Smashing Pumpkins have released 12 studio albums, with their most recent work, "Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts" being released in May 2023.

The group kicks off their next tour in Birmingham, England on June 7, while kicking off a North American tour in Washington, D.C. on July 29.

The Smashing Pumpkins will play a hometown show at Wrigley Field alongside Green Day on Aug. 13.
