This my second time riding in the Spirit. One time was a night cruise and the second is a day cruise. I would ride again, but either at night or doing the cooler season, because it gets really hot on the deck and it's barely any shade as well. The line are really long , so I would get there either early, or prepare for a wait. The staff and my server was super nice and the food was decent, but not nothing to brag about. It is a live DJ and photography. We had purchase the photo package and pictures was really nice. I did however wish the DJ played Variety of music and not just Afro-Pop and "Cookout songs" day cruise Night cruise - R&B and "Cookout songs" Outside of that it was nice to do and just relax.

Absolutely phenomenal! First off, the crew were so friendly and fun! The service was top notch! The food was amazing (we had the brunch) and the drinks were well made! Me and my husband cannot wait to take another trip on the spirit. Everyone was dancing and having fun, all I saw were smiles and it was clear everyone was enjoying themselves. The views of the inner harbor were beautiful, and the crew even offered to take pictures for us. I would definitely recommend this business! Do yourself a favor and order the crab dip with pita bread!!!

I've been on The Odyssey from Spirit Cruises a handful of times now for various occasions - from an employee retreat day and a university's reunion/get together to, most recently, a memorial service. While I do think it is a good all-inclusive choice of venue to gather a large crowd, there is so much left to be desired when it comes to the service and quality of food. Plated nicely, but overcooked, bland and lukewarm. I'm not a food snob by any means, but I don't like when food is pretending to be something it's not and priced accordingly so. For the memorial, we had a prix fixe menu to choose from consisting of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. We were able to select our entree (chicken or salmon), but never got an opportunity to put in an order. Upon returning from the bathroom, we had the salmon placed in front of our seats already. If you're wondering about how the dish was, please see note above about food. For the dessert, we did put in an order, but did not get delivered it until the boat had already docked. I'm pretty sure the private event space had to share service with the main dining room/other parties. I think what bothered me most on my recent visit was how our party's room was connected to the main dining area... where music was blasting... and the acoustics entered and interrupted the memorial. Servers would come in and out during the speeches, doors flung open allowing this noise to enter. It makes me wonder if flow of the evening was a careless afterthought. Not all celebrations are happy ones.

As I talked about in a previous review of Baltimore's inner harbor, there are a lot of cool, interesting and exciting things to do there. One of those awesome to do adventures is to take a boat tour of the inner harbor. My boss, I and many others attending the conference we were in took a boat tour on Spirit Cruises. It was an amazing experience. I had an absolutely wonderful time. The most similar experience I had to this were boat tours I took years ago in Miami's Bayside Marketplace... but this tour was so much better. 1) it started at dusk and went into the night so much better views. 2) There was a DJ, plenty of booze, and dinner. It was a awesome to relax in the upper deck that has plenty of comfortable seating with a beverage in hand as you just let the beauty of the water and inner harbor relax you....especially with some great music in the background. The food was awesome... plenty of food served buffet style... I had two full plates of different types of chicken, pork, mash potatoes, the food was savory, delicious and well made. The service of the staff was wonderful. The only bad part of my time here was that it ended... I wish I could have stayed several more hours on here. Great experience, give it a try if you are in the area.

I can honestly say that ANYONE visiting or even living in Baltimore should go on the dinner cruise with Spirit Cruises. The food was AMAZING - everything from the chicken to the braised beef to the baked ziti!!!! A HUGE thank you to the cooks - GREGORY, LEON and TANK!!!! If it weren't for them, the cruise would NOT be the same (especially since I was expecting subpar cafeteria food). 2.5 hours on the water for this price is a GIFT!!! Also, our waiter Will was great too! Wonderful time to spend with family and friends!!! Do not miss this!!!

Good food, excellent staff and great atmosphere! Would definitely go back. It's great to be somewhere where the staff really seem to enjoy the workplace.

My boyfriend surprised me with a Spirit dinner cruise recently as a birthday gift and it was a fun time. I can't comment on the value of the cruise as it was a gift and I don't know how much it costed, but I can comment on the quality of service, food, and overall experience I had. Our boat had three levels: two indoor areas with tables and one upper deck. The indoor levels had AC and were decorated so well that it was almost like a restaurant. Each table was nicely set with white tablecloths and fancy silverware. We got a table by the window upon special request (you pay extra basically). There is a dress code, but it is not strictly enforced. Just wear something decent, like khakis and a polo or a sundress, and you'll be okay. The service was great. Every server and staff member was charismatic and friendly. We could order whatever kind of drinks we wanted. There were 2 bars on the boat. A buffet-style dinner was included with our tickets as well as a 2.5 hour cruise in the harbor. The dinner was a major disappointment. None of the food was good. There was a lot of variety and it all looked awesome, but none of it tasted right. Everyone we saw left a lot of food on their plates. I felt bad doing so, but it was honestly hard to stomach it :-( The cruise in the harbor was great. We were free to roam the 3 levels and spent most of our time on the top deck after dinner. It was very peaceful on the water. You don't see the most interesting stuff, especially if you've visited the harbor before, but it's fun nonetheless. There was a DJ on the lower level and some guy playing guitar on the upper deck. He took requests. He was pretty good. You have the opportunity to get a photo souvenir. They take your photo before you board. The bathroom was also surprisingly very nice. It was spotless, smelled great, and had a real toilet - not like the toilets you see on airplanes, which is what I expected. I would highly suggest going on a Spirit dinner cruise for a special occasion, like a birthday or anniversary. Just make sure you eat before :-)

Spirt Cruises are a great way to check out Baltimore inner harbor if you're visiting. Made a reservation for an afternoon boat ride. Pretty inexpensive and fun to do. Once we arrived for our scheduled ride, they told us that they weren't sure if the boy would be taking off. Apparently there weren't enough people, in fact I believe we were the first. Luckily some more people showed up (like three) and we were off. Just several people on the boat, but hey I like my space. I kept the bartender happy by tipping a little extra for his efforts. The sights were beautiful. I really enjoyed myself. If you got time, it's a nice day, and you'd like to sightsee, try these guys.

I came here for one of a family friends wedding and they were very very hospitable, the DJ was amazing and the staff was humble and willing to help in the nicest way possible, I really liked this place and 10/10 would come again :)

  • 548ty 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Love Boat Staff- Not Sales Staff I would like to begin with the cruising staff is nothing but amazing, every last one. A special thank you to Michael Johnson he called the day prior to my event, and I immediately felt all would work out just fine and it did. Thank you Thank you Thank you! Captain Marvin was top-notch. He greeted all guest with a smile as he did the year before when I had another large event on the cruise. The cooks' bar staff they were professional and tended to our needs and they were an all-around exceptional team. As for the event planner Makayla this is where you all fell flat and for this reason, I refuse to book again with this cruise line. There was great potential for us to make this an annual event for our family and a likelihood of booking the entire cruise again annually. I asked Makayla about reserving the private area 1 because we had a 4-time nominee 1 time Grammy award winning family member that had returned from his tour and was attending our event, we also preferred to have our own Dj for our event. The first email I had inquired about a private area Makayla mentioned the max the area could accommodate 175 which has absolutely nothing to do with the 125 minimum that’s needed to reserve a private area. That was clearly a play on words. After speaking with her a private area was not an option, she had claimed she had discussed with the director, and it simply could not happen. After speaking with another representative, weeks later we were told she could not see why we would not be able to have the private area. Nearly a week prior to the event Makayla’s response changed we could have the private area, but we needed to get the individual payers registration codes. Again, this is now a week prior at this point I am beyond frustrated and did not have the time or energy to try and get all of the information needed. Instead, I have decided to not cruise with the company moving forward and am willing to pass along my dissatisfaction and reasons for deciding not to do so. I sincerely appreciate the cruising staff and I wish I could take them all to another event as they were superb. Read more Written August 8, 2023

  • VLSCI 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Good Introduction to the Inner Harbor This was a great way to see Baltimore! It was an extremely hot, humid day. Most people opted to sit inside on the middle level. Those who tried to sit outside on the top level soon came back in. The lower level was set up for an evening dinner cruise and was closed to us. The narration was good, but because it was so crowded and very loud inside, it was difficult to hear some of what was being said. It was also a little annoying for some of the crew to be setting up service stations next to us while we were trying to listen. I recommend this tour for your first day in Baltimore. It helped us get our bearings on where everything was. Read more Written August 1, 2023
  • rasanh2016 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles A great way to see and experience the Inner Harbor This was a pleasurable ride on a 3-level ship similar to the Spirit of Baltimore. The operators provided a recorded narrative of harbor sights that gave insightful information on the harbor’s past, present, and hopes for the future. The staff was friendly, interactive, and prepared to answer questions. There was also a bar available for libations! My only criticism is that the first (bottom) level was roped off and reserved for staff, but while sitting on the 2nd level, passengers can look down and see what looked like a break/office area with laptops, lunches, and personal belongings. I suggest that this area be kept neat and instead section off a hidden area for these items. This is the only reason I wouldn’t give this ride 5 stars. Read more Written July 9, 2023

The weather was beautiful and it was a quiet and peaceful way to spend an hour on the water and it was a really unique way to see the city at twilight. Our particular trip wasn’t crowded at all, maybe 20 people aboard total, so we easily got our own table. We even got to stop in and meet the captain! I’d really recommend this cruise to anyone visiting Baltimore! Come this spring, Baltimore's seafaring tourists and partiers can board a brand new Spirit of Baltimore to sail the Inner Harbor.

Chad Barth, general manager of Hornblower Cruises and Events in Baltimore, said Friday that the company's Spirit Cruises subsidiary is in the process of renovating a 192-foot ship it acquired to replace the current 145-foot Spirit of Baltimore.

The vessel isn't exactly brand new, having previously traversed the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., but it's currently undergoing a multimillion-dollar, "top to bottom" transformation at General Ship Repair near Domino Sugar's refinery. The new ship will have 30% more passenger capacity, Barth said. It will be unveiled sometime this spring.

New deep-water channel allows first ship to pass key bridge wreckage in baltimore.

BALTIMORE – The first cargo ship passed through a newly opened deep-water channel in Baltimore on Thursday after being stuck in the harbor since the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed four weeks ago, halting most maritime traffic through the city’s port.

The Balsa 94, a bulk carrier sailing under a Panama flag, passed through the new 35-foot (12-meter) channel headed for Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Two more commercial ships followed later Thursday, including a vehicle carrier headed to Panama.

Their long-awaited voyages marked an important step in the ongoing cleanup and recovery effort as crews have been working around the clock to clear thousands of tons of mangled steel and concrete from the entrance to Baltimore’s harbor.

Five vessels that have been stranded for weeks are expected to finally leave Baltimore through the new, temporary channel. Other ships are scheduled to enter the port, which normally processes more cars and farm equipment than any other in the country.

Thousands of longshoremen, truckers and small business owners have seen their jobs impacted by the collapse, prompting local and state officials to prioritize reopening the port and restoring its traffic to normal capacity in hopes of easing the economic ripple effects of the collapse. Officials have also established various assistance programs for unemployed workers and others impacted by the closure.

On Thursday morning, the Balsa 94 moved through the channel guided by two tug boats, one in front and one behind. It glided slowly past the fallen bridge and grounded Dali, the massive container ship that caused the collapse when it slammed into one of the bridge’s support columns.

Pieces of the steel span are still blocking other parts of the port’s main channel, which has a controlling depth of 50 feet (15 meters), enough to accommodate some of the largest cargo and cruise ships on the water.

The Balsa 94 is expected to arrive in Canada on Monday.

The Dali lost power and veered off course shortly after leaving the Port of Baltimore bound for Sri Lanka last month.

Six members of a roadwork crew — all Latino immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras — plunged to their deaths in the collapse. Four bodies have been recovered from the underwater wreckage while two remain missing.

A memorial for the victims near the south end of the bridge has grown in recent weeks. It now includes six large wooden crosses decorated with flags from the victims’ home countries and other personal items, including the hardhats and work boots that allowed them to provide for their families and chase the American dream. A painted canvas backdrop displays abstract scenes from the bridge collapse and salvage efforts as well as handwritten notes from the men’s loved ones.

“We want to send a message to the world that we’re here and we care,” said the artist, Roberto Marquez, who was visiting the memorial late Thursday morning. “We will be here working until they are all recovered.”

The new channel will remain open until Monday or Tuesday and then close again until roughly May 10. During the closure, crews will work to remove steel spans from the deck of the Dali and refloat the ship, which will then be guided back into the port, officials said earlier this week.

The port’s main channel is set to reopen next month after the Dali has been removed from the collapse site. That will allow for a normal flow of traffic to resume through the port.

But for now, the 35-foot depth is a substantial increase over the three other temporary channels established in recent weeks. It puts the cleanup effort slightly ahead of schedule, as officials previously said they hoped to open a channel of that depth by the end of April.

A hulking vehicle carrier named Carmen that is nearly as long as the Dali became the third commercial ship to traverse the channel Thursday afternoon. Viewed from the deck of a nearby passenger boat, it appeared to sail steadily between the marker buoys, dwarfing the cranes, barges and other wreckage removal equipment that was stationed nearby.

Even with commercial ships chugging past, crews continued the arduous process of clearing debris from the collapse site. On Thursday, they were using a crane apparatus to smash the fallen roadway into more manageable pieces that could be lifted from underwater with a giant claw.

In a court filing Monday, Baltimore’s mayor and city council called for the Dali’s owner and manager to be held fully liable for the bridge collapse, which they said could be devastating for the regional economy. They said the port , which was established before the nation’s founding, has long been an economic driver for Baltimore and the surrounding area. Losing the bridge itself has also disrupted a major east coast trucking route.

The filing came in response to an earlier petition on behalf of the two companies asking a court to cap their liability under a pre-Civil War provision of an 1851 maritime law — a routine procedure for such cases. A federal court in Maryland will ultimately decide who’s responsible and how much they owe.

In the meantime, both the FBI and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting probes to determine what caused the ship to lose power and strike the bridge.

This story was first published April 25, 2024. It was updated April 26, 2024, to correct the destination of a ship. It is Saint John, in New Brunswick, Canada, not St. John.
