You can watch the entire first season of 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ for free on YouTube

Paramount+ made this move ahead of the season 2 premiere..

Streaming services often upload a pilot on YouTube to lure in new subscribers, but never an entire season. Paramount+ did just that, however, throwing up the entire first season of the critically-acclaimed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on YouTube for all to see. That’s ten hours of free Star Trek goodness, for those keeping score.

It’s no coincidence that this move comes hot on the heels of season two of the sci-fi property, which premieres June 15th and promises more space-based tomfoolery and an anticipated crossover event with sibling show Star Trek: Lower Decks. The upcoming season also promises more Kirk and more Klingons, if classic franchise iconography is your bag.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a prequel to the original series that follows the adventures of Enterprise captain Christopher Pike, his science officer Spock, a fresh-faced comms officer named Nyota Uhura and the rest of the crew. The show’s been praised for its “back to basics” formula, eschewing extensive serialization in favor of standalone episodes.

This promotion isn’t just for Trek fans, as Paramount+ also dropped full seasons of iCarly, Joe Pickett and Queen of the Universe. It goes without saying that this is a limited time promo offer, so open up those YouTube links and get binging.

Close-up on Captain Pike

The best new Star Trek show is getting even easier to watch: the first episode of Strange New Worlds ’ second season is now streaming free on YouTube. The episode is available on the Paramount Plus YouTube channel, but it’s unclear how long it will be up before it returns to being a Paramount Plus exclusive.

Strange New Worlds is a prequel to Star Trek the original series and tells the story of the USS Enterprise before James T. Kirk was in charge. Unlike something like Star Trek: Picard , Strange New Worlds mostly stays true to the episodic adventures that helped keep the franchise fresh and fun.

The season premiere is joined by the entirety of season 1 , which is on the service until June 30. So, even if you’ve never watched the show, you can jump in now and catch up on everything but the latest episode.

All of this may be a ploy by Paramount to get more subscribers for Paramount Plus, the streaming service that Strange New Worlds actually airs on, but at least it’s a pretty good one that lets people watch a lot of pretty good Star Trek for free.

  • Trivia Bruce Horak , the actor who plays Hemmer, is legally blind, just like his character's species, the Aenar, who are also blind.
  • Goofs There are some rank insignia mistakes. Number One is introduced as "Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley" yet she is wearing the rank insignia of a full commander: two full stripes. A Lieutenant Commander's rank insignia is a full stripe under a thin stripe (in TOS it is a full stripe and a staggered stripe). It is not uncommon for a ship's first officer to be a Lt. Commander if they have not been in the position long. Spock at this point is a Lieutenant but he is wearing Lieutenant Commander's stripes; a Lieutenant just has one stripe. La'an is the ship's chief of security and the ship's second officer. She is also wearing Lt. Commander stripes but is addressed as a Lieutenant, but it would make more sense for her to be a Lieutenant Commander. Either way both of their rank insignia are not matching the rank they are addressed by. Ortegas is addressed as a Lieutenant but is wearing Lieutenant Commander's strips. A Lieutenant Commander may be addressed as a Commander or Lieutenant Commander but never as just a Lieutenant, so either her rank insignia or the manner she is addressed by the rest of the crew is in error.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is now free to watch on YouTube — and it’s 99% on Rotten Tomatoes

One of the best Paramount Plus shows is now on YouTube

Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

It’s not uncommon for some of the best streaming services to upload the first episode of a flagship original TV show to YouTube in an attempt to attract new subscribers. But offering an entire season is a frontier that few have crossed. However, Paramount Plus has just done exactly that by making the complete first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds completely free to stream.

Head over to the Paramount Plus YouTube channel and you’ll find all 10 episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds available to watch for free. Unfortunately, you do need to be in the U.S. in order to watch the episodes, but sci-fi fans in other countries can make use of one of the best VPNs to circumvent that particular restriction.

Pitched as a prequel to the original Star Trek show, Strange New Worlds follows the early adventures of the crew of the USS Enterprise and is significantly less serialized than some recent Trek projects. It stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, Christina Chong as La'an Noonien-Singh and Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura.

Why you should watch Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is broadly considered one of the best shows on Paramount Plus . Our U.S. Editor-in-Chief praised the show for combining “the best of the original series with The Next Generation, while adding in plenty of new twists” and the response from dedicated Trekkies has been similarly enthusiastic.

The prequel series has also been a critical smash scoring a seriously impressive 99% on Rotten Tomatoes . Dan Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter declared that “Paramount Plus may have cracked the Star Trek code with a new series that’s bright, optimistic and fundamentally episodic in nature” and Rolling Stone ’s Alan Sepinwall noted that: “It’s almost startling how effective the old format is after all this time.” The show’s first season earned an audience score of 80%, which is also very strong.

It’s not hard to work out exactly why Paramount decided now was the time to make Star Trek: Strange New Worlds free to watch on YouTube. The show’s second season is scheduled to launch on the streaming service on June 15 and promises more space-exploring hijinks and even a crossover with the popular animated spin-off show Star Trek: Lower Decks .

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is not the only Paramount Plus show that's streaming via YouTube either. Full seasons of the iCarly revival, Joe Pickett and Queen of the Universe are also now streaming for free. However, there’s no word yet on how long these shows will be available on YouTube, so we advise you to get watching as soon as possible as this may just be a limited-time promotion.

You Can Watch All of 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Season 1 for Free

Now you can boldly go catch up before Season 2 premieres in June!

It's a happy day for Star Trek fans — Paramount has just put up the entire first season of Strange New Worlds to stream for free on the Paramount+ YouTube channel. That's right, every episode from Season 1! The prequel series follows Captain Christopher Pike ( Anson Mount ) and the crew of the USS Enterprise as they explore uncharted territory in the early days of the Federation.

Strange New Worlds is set to return to Paramount+ in just a few weeks for Season 2, so this is the perfect opportunity for fans without a subscription to the streamer to catch up on the series. The series marks a return to the episodic storytelling style of the original series and the franchise's 90s-era spin-offs. Each episode takes the crew of the Enterprise on a contained adventure that is generally resolved by the end of the hour.

In addition to Mount, Season 1 stars Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Ethan Peck as Spock, Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura, Jess Bush as Nurse Chapel, Babs Olusanmokun as Doctor M'Benga, Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas, Christina Chong as La'an, and Bruce Horak as Hemmer.

Star Trek comes to YouTube – but not for long

Christopher Pike and other members of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds smile directly at the camera

Star Trek : Strange New Worlds season 2 is on the way. For those you who aren't Paramount Plus subscribers but want to catch up on the show, you can now enjoy the entire first season for free on YouTube .

Strange New Worlds is one of many Star Trek shows hitting our screens. The series acts as a prequel to the first-ever Star Trek TV show, at a time when Captain Christopher Pike – who helmed the USS Enterprise in the pilot episode, The Cage – was still in command of the iconic spaceship's crew.

The free YouTube drop is a boon for any Star Trek fan who hasn't had a Paramount Plus subscription that lets them see the show – with all 10 episodes from the first season being available to stream.

It's only a temporary bit of marketing, though – as the season will be pulled at midnight (PT) on June 30, giving you only a few weeks to binge through the whole show.

Live long and subscribe

The surprising move to release the first season for free comes in the run-up to the second season, which lands on June 15 – with Paramount no doubt looking to drum up interest in the show for those not yet subscribed to its streaming service.

Paramount Plus has become the de-facto home of Star Trek shows, hosting Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Picard , Star Trek: Discovery (formerly hosted on Netflix) and the animated spin-off Lower Decks .

The trailer for Strange New Worlds season 2 teased a shocking crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks , specifically showing off actors Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome who voice Boimler and Mariner in the animated show – embodying these cartoon characters in live-action for the first time.

As the second episode of  Star Trek: Strange New Worlds arrived exclusively on Paramount+ , the first episode was made available to stream for free on YouTube in the USA.

Watch “Strange New Worlds”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set on the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), returning to the role he took on in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery , along with Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The series follows Pike and the Enterprise in the years before Kirk as they explore new worlds around the galaxy. Strange New Worlds also stars Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas, and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga.

The series premiere is aptly titled “Strange New Worlds.” Here is the synopsis:

When one of Pike’s officers goes missing while on a secret mission for Starfleet, Pike has to come out of self-imposed exile. He must navigate how to rescue his officer, while struggling with what to do with the vision of the future he’s been given.

It is available now to watch for free for a limited time on YouTube:

New episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds debut on Thursdays exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., Latin America, Australia and the Nordics. The series airs on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave in Canada. In New Zealand, it is available on TVNZ , and in India on  Voot Select .  Strange New Worlds  will arrive via Paramount+ in select countries in Europe when the service launches later this year, starting with the UK and Ireland in June.

I bet it’s still geolocked for North America.

Yes, it is. At least in Germany it’s not available.

wen interessiert das is ja jetzt nicht schwer das zu umgehen…

I am using the epic browser with its onboard proxyserver. So i can watch it here from Austria.

You can use a VPN to get around that.

Bot unlike some other services (esp. paid ones), free YouTube video do not get blocked when watching vial VPN (I tested with Mozilla VPN).

not available in Germany :-(

Seriously, Paramount absolutely hates and resents any fan outside of the USA. Sometimes I don’t know why I bother.

Use a VPN. Windscribe works great. And it’s free.

Oh I’ve already seen the episode using… other means. Lol. But I just mean in general, Paramount hates the international Trek fandom.

The Premiere episode gets Dvorak’s Seal of Approval. I’m sure even jaded fans will get some enjoyment out of it. Give it a chance.

SNW available for free…. for those who couldn’t see it, because it wasn’t internationally available on netflix, amazon, etc? Aaa… for free in USA. Find the error.

Just watched it – it was really good. I really hope the show is that good every week. And most Trek shows get better as they go on. I’m thinking this show could be the new TNG.

Noooo!! This is the new TOS. Transfer everyone who wants TNG to Picard, Lower Decks, Prodigy, Young and the Restless, Orville, Time Trek: the Technobabble Snoozefest, holodeck, whatever. This is Horatio Hornblower in space, Wagon Train to the Stars, only ship in the quadrant, exploration, colonization, adventure. A century old BOP did us all a favor on Verdian III. As Pike would probably say don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

Boy, you’re a real ray of sunshine, aren’t you? How much bashing of Picard , Lower Decks , and Prodigy can you pull off ?

Fingers crossed!

Paramount seems to find new ways to say screw you to international fans every week.

It’s easy to screw Par+ or any of them back. Get a VPN (Virtual Private Network) Some are free, some have 30 day free trials. If you just want to watch the SNW opener? Get ipvanish (30 day refund) then log into IPVanish American Server. Then, watch SNW on YouTube. Using IPVanish, it spoofs your actual location. You could be in Australia, as long as YouTube thinks you’re in the US, you’re a go to watch. Also, Paramount isn’t trying to screw or hate international viewers. Broadcast rights for each country or continent needs to be negotiated. Paramount just can’t open a streamer if Netflix or Prime or some local cable company has broadcasting rights.

Denny, people just don’t want to know how things really work, which is why this nonsense get repeated all of the time.

It’s awful for fans outside North America, I agree.

But making it out as though it’s intentional contempt is a bit over the top.

It’s nothing to do with dislike of international fans and everything to do with survival as a separate content producer.

Paramount, WBDiscovery AND Disney have all been sticking it to Netflix and Amazon by rehoming their libraries, especially their top franchises.

All three have the same policy of not renewing exclusive licences to other streamers. Netflix evidently thought that it could hold Paramount up by insisting on exclusive renewals for Trek shows, and refused a situation where both Netflix and P+ could stream Discovery where P+ exists.

Netflix is losing subscribers and share value. Amazon has fallen below Paramount in subscription growth.

It’s business and not a public television service. Fans are unfortunately the losers for the near term as a result of the bargaining failure on Netflix side.

We as consumers got a decade of low price access to the best of American content libraries. The Netflix model was unsustainable, and now we’re dealing with the fallout.

“It’s business and not a public television service. Fans are unfortunately the losers for the near term as a result of the bargaining failure on Netflix side.” Or as was said in the episode “When elephants fight, it is the grass that looses”

So can people in Canada also see this episode on YouTube TG47?

And I was predicting back in 2017 that Netflix were going to have problems we’re seeing now. Once other streaming services started and you were losing valuable IPS left and right sooner or later it’s going to have an impact. It’s still a predominate and valued site but it’s not going to be the leading one forever as all these others take a bigger piece of the pie.

The days of people saying ‘They should put so and so on Netflix’ or just assuming everything will just end up there eventually is no longer the driving force it once was.

Finally, finally, finally real Star Trek returns! My mind is blown and my eyes full of tears!!!

Please make this available in Japan soon!

The tone, the characters…Damn, I loved it so much! This is what Star Trek should have been a decade ago, when it was rebooted. THIS IS STAR TREK!

It seems longer, but Discovery debuted in September 2017, less than five years ago.

Apart from the second series, I have no interest to revisit Discovery.

Fully agree on this!

and also absolutely no interest to visit anything, which is including the Nazi character of Georgiou.

Especially in terms of so many real world dictators also going crazy nowadays.

It’s weird how here we are in 2022 and many foreign Star Trek fans seem completely unware of dirt cheap and sometimes free VPN services???

I may just be demonstrating an utter lack of knowledge on this subject, but isn’t all that stuff kind of akin to video piracy?

I’m Glad Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Has Been Renewed For Season 4, But It’s A Shame There’s Also Some Bad News For The Franchise

It's a day of both good news and bad news.

Anson Mount as Captain Pike in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+

One of the best reasons to have a Paramount+ subscription is so you can access the modern era of Star Trek TV. Ever since Star Trek: Discovery premiered on then-CBS All Access in 2017, the small screen corner of the sci-fi franchise has been revitalized, with some of the other shows including Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks . Well, there’s some good news and bad news that’s come in today. Strange New Worlds has been renewed for Season 4, but Lower Decks will be ending.

For those of you who’ve enjoyed watching the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the USS Enterprise in the immediate years ahead of The Original Series , there’s yet another batch of episodes on the way, though it’ll be a while until that specific group arrives since Strange New Worlds Season 3 isn’t expected to premiere until 2025. Unfortunately, those of you who have enjoyed the comedic hijinks of Boimlier, Mariner, Tendi and Rutherford on the animated Lower Decks must now prepare for the last hurrah with Season 5, which will premiere later this year on the 2024 TV schedule . Executive producers Mike McMahan and Alex Kurtzman released the following statement regarding the news:

We wanted to let you know that this fall will be the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks. While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true. Our incredible cast, crew and artists have given you everything they have because they love the characters they play, they love the world we’ve built, and more than anything we all love love love Star Trek. We’re excited for the world to see our hilarious fifth season which we’re working on right now, and the good news is that all previous episodes will remain on Paramount+ so there is still so much to look forward to as we celebrate the Cerritos crew with a big send-off. Finally, thank you for always being so creative and joyful, for filling convention halls and chanting “LOWER DECKS!” We remain hopeful that even beyond season five, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures. LLAP

Now it is worth noting that Star Trek: Lower Decks ending shouldn’t come as a complete shock. Last October, Mike McMahan told CinemaBlend’s own Mick Joest that he wasn’t sure if Season 6 was in the cards , saying that “ you shouldn’t assume that this stuff is gonna stick around unless you vocally and watch it early on.” Sure enough, Season 5 will be the show’s last, so hopefully the writers were able to craft a conclusive ending rather than leave fans with any lingering plot threads.

Star Trek: Lower Decks crew

All this being said, just because Star Trek: Lower Decks is ending doesn’t mean we’ll never see its characters again. After all, Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome played Boimler and Mariner in live-action for last year’s Strange New Worlds / Lower Decks crossover , so perhaps there’ll be another opportunity for them to return to that show or some other live-action venue. Maybe they could even be joined by costars like Noël Wells or Eugene Cordero. And then, of course, these characters could simply keep being explored in books and comic book series.

As for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds , Season 2 ended with Pike being forced to decide whether he should follow Starfleet’s orders and retreat from the battle with the Horn, or defy them to save his captured crew members. So with Season 3 needing to resolve that plot thread and explore various other stories, it’ll obviously be a while until we learn what Season 4 holds in store.

The upcoming Star Trek TV shows lineup also includes Starfleet Academy , and the Michelle Yeoh-led Section 31 movie will also exclusively play on Paramount+. Meanwhile, the theatrical side of the franchise is beginning development on a Star Trek origins movie , so keep visiting CinemaBlend for the biggest updates on all these projects.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed For Season 4 At Paramount+

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for Season 4 at Paramount+, despite currently being in production on its third season.

On the other hand, it has been revealed that the animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks , will end with Season 5 on the streaming platform. The final season will premiere this fall.

Strange New Worlds centers around Capt. Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) is the USS Enterprise commander at this point in the Star Trek universe. He is joined by younger versions of several legacy characters, including Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), and Kirk (Paul Wesley).

It debuted in 2022 and had an epic second season that included a musical episode and a crossover episode with Lower Decks , helping it climb aboard Nielsen’s chart of the 10 most-watched streaming original series over multiple weeks.

“On behalf of the cast and crew of ‘Strange New Worlds,’ we are thrilled and grateful to continue our voyages together,” said executive producers and showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, along with executive producer Alex Kurtzman in a statement according to Variety . “We can’t wait for you to join us and the crew of the Enterprise on another season of exploration and adventure.”

Lower Decks is set in the years following the feature film Star Trek: Nemesis and centers around the junior officers of the USS Cerritos: Beckett Mariner ( Tawny Newsome ), Brad Boimler ( Jack Quaid ), D’Vana Tendi ( Noël Wells ) and Sam Rutherford ( Eugene Cordero ).

The series also featured voice cameos from several Star Trek alumni including George Takei , Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, John de Lancie, Will Wheaton, Armin Shimerman, Nana Visitor, and Robert Duncan McNeill.

Although some aspects of the storyline make it appropriate to conclude the show, Kurtzman and executive producer and showrunner Mike McMahan are leaving the hull open for future iterations.

“We remain hopeful that even beyond Season 5, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford, and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures,” they said in a message to fans. “While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true.”

Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is slated to premiere in 2025.

'Star Trek: Discovery' season 5 episode 4 uses time travel to remember the past 5 seasons

It's pretty obvious watching this episode that the cast and crew, at the very least, strongly suspected that this was going to be the last season of "Discovery" when it was written.

You're not seeing double…well, actually you are, as 23rd century Burnham must fight her-32nd-century-self.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Star Trek: Discovery" season 5, episode 4

With the news that "Star Trek: Lower Decks" is ending after its current season, that really only leaves "Strange New Worlds" as the last remaining Nu-Trek series currently airing on television.

And, a word to the wise: If you're a die-hard fan of " Discovery ," make sure you have your own physical media, 'cause no one likes being at the mercy of whatever an overpaid television executive thinks. You're welcome. Moreover, after this final season of "Discovery," we're going to have until wait until next year for the next season of " Strange New Worlds ." It's all starting to feel a bit like "Game of Thrones" all over again.

Episode four, entitled "Face the Strange," is without a doubt the best entry so far in the fifth season, and one can't help but wonder after watching exactly when the cast and production crew were first informed that this would be the last season, because it was definitely before this episode was actually written. The reason? It is, for all intents and purposes, a 60-minute, time-travel-powered, postscript-style reminiscence of all elements of all five seasons — or as much as you can cram into an hour — and what a rollercoaster ride it's been.

So when Alex Kurtzman or Michelle Paradise or whoever it is that actually has authority in the writer's room entered said room, put down their grande iced sugar-free vanilla half-double decaffeinated half-caff latte with soy milk and a twist of lemon in their Paramount-branded 40oz Stanley Clean Slate Quencher H2.0 Flowstate™ Tumbler and announced, "Wouldn't it be great to revisit chapters from seasons one, two, three and four?" no doubt everyone cheered. "And how will this be possible?" asked Kurtzman, to which an eager-beaver intern no doubt excitedly thrust their hand up into the air and exclaimed, "Why, time travel , of course!"

"Quite right," replied Kurtzman (in our imaginations, at least), adding, "But it can be for one episode, so it has to be an isolated, self-contained form of time travel." Thus was conceived the "Time Bug," and with it came a ton of technobabble to precisely explain its parameters. Although quite why Zora didn't detect it was not addressed. Also, you know, transporters.

But this clever Time Bug, which can manipulate time in just about any way that's convenient for the writers to overcome any potential chronological complications — like life-changing paradoxes — came onboard the USS Discovery by way of that shifty Malinne "Moll" Ravel (Eve Harlow), who managed to infiltrate the Trill homeworld undetected, as we saw last week .

As a result, we get reminder glimpses of Michael Burnham's first coming aboard the USS Discovery way, way, way back in season one, complete with appropriate uniforms and everything. We get a fleeting reminder of the Red Angel and the battle with Control , naturally The Burn gets a mention, and there's even a not-very-subtle nod to the short-Trek " Calypso ." It's all a little bit like a Greatest Hits album that doesn't include any of the tracks that you actually liked, being played at 45 instead of 33. Remember vinyl?

Star Trek: Short Treks -

Since it's now obvious that this season was written after the cancellation announcement had been made to the cast and crew, the single most important question is, Will the show benefit from that, or will it suffer? Are the remaining six episodes going to be a drawn-out epilogue, tied loosely together with a mostly lame plot? Or, will advance knowledge of the show's future actually serve the writers well, allowing them to produce something above and beyond the normal level of writing?

There's even a very entertaining scene, in which 23rd-century Burnham must fight her 32nd-century self. Of course, the illudium Q-36 explosive space modulator fitted to the space bug prevents any changes from affecting the timeline, so you know, phew .

Most of the original Discovery bridge reappear, as close to how they looked seven years ago as possible, and even Lt. Cmdr. Airiam (played by Sara Mitich in the first season and Hannah Cheesman in the second) makes a cameo, so that's nice. Also, we can really see as Sonequa Martin-Green flips between her two Burnhams just how effective that dreadlock hair piece that she wears through this season actually is. Half the show's budget probably went to that.

It's a fun filler episode, and, even if it doesn't advance the plot an inch, it does allow character development to take place, particularly between Burnham and Captain Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie). Arguably the biggest surprise was that the writers were able to resist putting Captain Pike (Anson Mount) into this episode.
