The Strokes Julian Casablancas All Points East 2023

The Strokes live in London: a brilliant balancing act, despite sound issues

August 25, Victoria Park: The New York indie icons bring big-hitters and less obvious choices to All Points East as they battle, once again, with volume levels

When The Strokes last headlined All Points East in 2019, boos rang out through Victoria Park. Fans were unhappy – not with the band, who put on “a masterclass in the effortless cool that made us love them in the first place”, according to NME at the time – but with the dismal sound levels in the park. Four years later, as the New York indie icons return to top the bill once again, there’s a feeling of deja vu.

“Turn it up!” chants reverberate briefly through some sections of the audience as Julian Casablancas , Nikolai Fraiture, Albert Hammond Jr. , Fab Moretti, and Nick Valensi burst through their first few songs. Even despite difficult sound issues, The Strokes have flashes of brilliance – a conundrum that sometimes makes things frustrating; on the one hand, it’s a joy to hear the likes of ‘Juicebox’ and ‘Under Control’ played brilliantly at any level, on the other, the quiet making you yearn for the volume to be yanked all the way up.

Sound limitations aside, there’s talk earlier in the day – and in the lead-up to the event – of today representing some kind of nostalgia fest. The line-up before The Strokes take to the stage features a good handful of bands who first emerged around the same time as them, from fellow New Yorkers Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Walkmen to the recently returned Be Your Own Pet . On the 6 Music stage, the Instagram account Indie Sleaze has even been given a slot to DJ hits of the era. But to characterise it as wistful is to look at the day with tunnel vision – BYOP are here to play their new album ‘Mommy’ , and the bill also features a wealth of newer acts (whether relative to The Strokes’ generation or genuinely fresh on the scene) like Amyl & The Sniffers , Black Midi , HotWax and Picture Parlour .

Tonight’s set from the kings of New York cool is something of a similar balancing act, filling the setlist with crowd-pleasing big-hitters but refusing to go all-in on looking back and get bogged down in nostalgia. The Strokes begin with an exhilarating triple threat that takes us right back to the early noughties, ‘What Ever Happened?’, ‘Automatic Stop’ and a thrillingly early airing of ‘Last Nite’ kicking things off in storming fashion. After, instead of digging deeper into the past, they zoom right back to their current era for the wiry bounce of ‘The Adults Are Talking’.

The Strokes All Points East 2023

And so it goes for the rest of the band’s 90 minutes. For every few songs that ignite the audience in huge singalongs – a giddy ‘Someday’ or roaring ‘Meet Me In The Bathroom’ – there’s one that feels like a less obvious selection for a festival set. But even some of those unite the crowd, like ‘Comedown Machine’’s ‘Welcome To Japan’ eliciting yells of the immortal “ What kind of asshole drives a Lotus? ”, or the slow, strung-out ‘Ode To The Mets’, which has everyone singing the guitar melody from the first note. As the latter reaches its peak, and with the crowd still going, Casablancas amps his voice up from elegant drawl to rasped urges, bringing electrifying intensity to the performance.

In years gone by, there have been many a complaint about The Strokes’ spirit on stage, sometimes looking as if they’d rather be anywhere else. Recent visits to London have seen them in quite the opposite mood and, although it’s virtually impossible to make out what they say between songs for the most part tonight, thanks to their penchant for mumbling, they seem to be doing exactly what everyone wants them to – having a bloody good time.

Towards the end of the main set, Casablancas – wearing a leather waistcoat over a white button-up and one studded leather glove – announces, “Let’s make a song called ‘Fallacy’ right now”, and his bandmates launch into a jam as he freestyles words over the top. He keeps his between-song musings to a minimum, as is typical, but ahead of ‘Juicebox’ hands the mic over to the usually quiet Fraiture for a quick back-and-forth. Before a ferocious ‘Reptilia’, Casablancas shares that it’s the last song “before the big encore” – a move he says he regrets when they return to the stage. “I shouldn’t have said we were coming back,” he deadpans, with a glass in his hand. He throws the glass’ contents over himself and continues like nothing has happened: “Anyhoo, thanks for coming.”

Equilibrium quickly returns, absurdity transformed into awe, as the band steps back in time once again for their parting gift. ‘Hard To Explain’ rockets through the night before things wrap up with ‘Is This It’ and one last chance to holler along with your arms aloft. Whether they wanted to come back on stage or not, The Strokes maintain the balancing act until the very end and once again prove they’re masters of the big festival set. Hopefully next time they return, the volume can match their mastery.

The Strokes played:

‘What Ever Happened?’ ‘Alone, Together’ ‘Last Nite’ ‘The Adults Are Talking’ ‘Call It Fate, Call It Karma’ ‘Juicebox’ ‘You Only Live Once’ ‘Under Control’ ‘Meet Me In The Bathroom’ ‘Ode To The Mets’ ‘Red Light’ ‘Soma’ ‘Ask Me Anything’ ‘Automatic Stop’ ‘Someday’ ‘Fallacy (Jam)’ ‘Welcome To Japan’ ‘Reptilia’ ‘Hard To Explain’ ‘Is This It’

It’s time to tune your air guitars.

This August, The Strokes have two North American concerts lined up this August — and for fans wondering “Is This It,” we can confirm, it is.

First up, the legendary NYC band heads southwest to perform with opening act Weyes Blood at Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Monday, Aug. 14.

Five days later, they’ll return home for a one-off gig at Forest Hills, NY’s Forest Hills Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 19 with special guest singer Angel Olsen, comedian Seaton Smith and Promiseland aka Johann Rashid.

Need last-minute tickets to see Julian Casablancas belt out “Someday,” “Reptilia,” “Last Nite,” “12:51,” “You Only Live Once” and bangers from their 2021 Grammy-winning album “The New Abnormal?”

Well, it’s not too late.

Seats are available for both shows — they’re just not cheap.

The lowest price for the two concerts, at the time of publication, is $139 before fees on Vivid Seats.

That may have something to do with the scarcity of these shows; however, the good news is they may go down as the show dates approach.

All we know is the best way to find a deal is to keep refreshing this page .

By doing so, it’s very possible you just might find a bargain.

In the meantime, our team compiled everything you need to know about the Strokes’ brief August tour — from the best prices for each concert to set lists to details about the support acts — below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

The Strokes 2023 tour schedule

A complete breakdown of all the cheapest ticket prices for The Strokes two concerts on their mini-tour can be found right here:

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

The Strokes set list

Prior to these two concerts, the garage rockers have been touring overseas.

Here’s what they played live at their most recent headlining non-festival gig courtesy of Set List FM :

01.) “What Ever Happened?” 02.) “Bad Decisions” 03.) “Soma” 04.) “Juicebox” 05.) “Automatic Stop” 06.) “The Adults Are Talking” 07.) “Take It or Leave It” 08.) “Under Control” 09.) “Reptilia” 10.) “Call It Fate, Call It Karma” 11.) “Red Light” 12.) “Someday” 13.) “Ize of the World” Encore:

14.) “Hard to Explain” 15.) “You Only Live Once” 16.) “Last Nite”

The Strokes special guests

Weyes Blood is the brainchild of singer Natalie Laura Mering. Her nostalgic, yearning, lush and lo-fi music is the perfect complement to The Strokes’ brash rock. We recommend checking out her most-streamed song “Andromeda” for a sample of her sound.

Angel Olsen has a voice you can’t get out of your head. We mean that in a good way. Switching from bold to vulnerable — sometimes in a single track — she captivates listeners with her refreshingly honest vocals. While she’s more well-known for other songs, for us, we suggest starting with her incredible cover of Billy Idol’s “Eyes Without A Face.”

Seaton Smith wows audiences all over North America on a nightly basis. Now, the “Mulaney” actor (remember when John Mulaney had a sitcom on Fox?) and comic will deliver laughs poking fun at his past, society as a whole and maybe even throw in a little crowd work when he performs in Queens.

Promised Land wears many hats. Johann Rashid plays punk-like music, does performance art, and screens video at his live shows. These shows are not to be missed — he often leaves the stage with “broken ribs, bloody gashes, or jalapeno-infused tequila in his eyes” according to his bio . Gnarly.

Rock bands on tour in 2023

While The Strokes have just two shows lined up — as of now — many other groups have longer tours scheduled.

Here’s a quick look at a few other acts you won’t want to miss live these next few months.

•  Death Cab For Cutie with The Postal Service

• Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

•  Arctic Monkeys

• Pixies and Modest Mouse

Harry Styles' Love On Tour setlist 2023 in full: What will Harry sing at arena and stadium concerts across Europe, what time is he on stage at Dusseldorf Merkur Spiel-Arena and who are support acts Wet Leg?

While it's nothing new, and we're certainly not complaining, Harry Styles ' name is inescapable right now.

Not content with claiming 2022's Official biggest song with As It Was , even bagging the Official Charts Double as the year's biggest LP Harry's House simultaneously hit Number 1, making moves in the beauty business with Pleasing and sweeping up at the BRITs and GRAMMYs , the One Direction star's now preparing to treat fans across Europe to Love On Tour all over again.

Harry Styles' next Love On Tour concert is Merkur Spiel-Arena, Dusseldorf, Germany on June 27th and June 28th 2023.

Following the success of his Coachella sets and One Night Only performances everywhere from New York to Brixton last year, Harry's rescheduled European concerts kicked off on Saturday June 11 2022 at Glasgow's Ibrox Stadium.

If you're off to see Harry at his next date at Coventry Building Society Arena and want to know which songs you can expect, keep reading. He's even switched up the setlist especially for the European leg, adding a new 1D Four album fan favourite.

On July 9 2021, Inhaler released their debut album It Won't Always Be Like This which topped the Official Irish Albums Chart in their native Ireland and went to Number 1 on the UK's Official Albums Chart.

In doing so, Inhaler were the first Irish group in 13 years since The Script in 2008 to claim a UK Number 1 with their debut album. On release, It Won't Always Be Like This became the fastest-selling debut album of the century on vinyl.

Will Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Setlist Change After ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Release?

Will Taylor Swift s Eras Tour Setlist Change After The Tortured Poets Department Release 001

Taylor Swift ’s The Tortured Poets Department has already captivated the world , leaving her fans to wonder whether any of the new songs will pop up on her Eras Tour setlist.

Swift, 34, kicked off her three-hour concert series in March 2023 in Arizona, soon traversing the United States, Central and South America, Asia and Australia. The shows highlight most of her past albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights . There also is a section dedicated to “surprise songs,” where Swift adds two new acoustic renditions (most recently, mash-ups) to the show.

Swift has been on hiatus since early March, weeks before The Tortured Poets Department dropped on Friday, April 19. The record, her 11th studio album, features 31 songs including “Fortnight,” “So Long, London,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” “So High School” and “thanK you aIMee.”

Swift’s fans planning to see Eras later this year — the tour leg kicks off in Paris on Thursday, May 9 — have since taken to social media, curious if they will be able to hear any TTPD live.

“OK listen I NEED Taylor to add ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’ to the Eras Tour setlist. … Just that ONE. … PLEASE. … It was MADE for the Eras Tour !!!!!!!!!!” a social media user wrote via X.

Another added, “I am so obsessed with Taylor’s new album idk how to survive the Eras Tour (if I actually go twice I might just drop dead afterwards).”

Will Taylor Swift s Eras Tour Setlist Change After The Tortured Poets Department Release 002

Since Eras has sections dedicated to Swift’s previous albums , it is possible that TTPD could get its own mini-set in the lineup. Not all of her preexisting cohorts feature the same amount of songs, so Swift could cut some songs in order to add a time for Tortured Poets additions .

Spotify added further fuel to the fire on Friday as Swifties noticed the streaming platform’s official video for “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” a TTPD track, features footage solely from the Eras Tour.

Swift’s musical director David Cook , who has also been featured on several of her past LPs, also hinted that TTPD songs could make an appearance on the tour lineup.

“Not sure how much I can add to the discourse other than this album is really REALLY good. You FEEL it,” Cook wrote via Instagram on Friday, quoting “Loml” with a mind-blown emoji.

According to eagle-eyed Swifties that captured screenshots, Cook also wrote, “Wait until you hear the live versions.” The addition, however, has since been deleted.

Of course, it is also possible that Swift will drop a TTPD single in her surprise song section.

“How will The Tortured Poets Department affect the Eras Tour ? Hopefully only on surprise songs (in a good way),” an X user theorized.

While Swift has yet to address if TTPD will affect her Eras Tour setlist, she’s given fans insight into how she picks song s for the acoustic section.

“This has become my favorite part of the show because it’s become very chaotic and it’s become a challenge for me to think of new things to do for every single city,” Swift told the crowd in Singapore in March. “And hope that I’m doing something that you guys might like. It’s been a blast!”

Per the Grammy winner, she “invented [her] crazy acoustic section,” to be able to play “as many songs” as she could way over the 44 staples at each show. Adding TTPD tracks there seems like an easy way to do just that, if you ask Us.

The Tortured Poets Department is out now and Swift’s Eras Tour resumes on Thursday, May 9.
