But even though it is a favorite time of year to many people due to warm days, sunbathing, and swimming in the sea and pool, no other season challenges your fashion sense as much as summer, as the question of what clothes to wear becomes a real problem.

So, if you’re among those who have no idea how to sort your wardrobe for different occasions, especially during traveling, I got your back. In this guide, I will share ideas of summer travel outfits, with examples and styling tips. So, sit back, relax, and allow me to dissuade your fashion distress.

Whether you’re escaping to the countryside, traveling to big cities, or exploring foreign cultures, you will definitely need casual and comfortable attire. So, no matter what your destination might be, I’ve illustrated 10 different outfit examples so that you can look your best and feel comfy!

One-day trips are a great way to relax and recharge. If you’re planning a one-day getaway, it’s important to look laid-back rather than over-dressed for this trip. But you definitely still want to look stylish, so I’ve put together three travel outfit ideas for your short voyage! 

For starters, the denim-on-denim bandwagon is a chic outfit option for summer. In my opinion, the trendy combo in the picture below should belong in all women’s wardrobes. Just add cool sunglasses, backpack, and soft sneakers to the outfit, and you’re ready to go!

Next, jumpsuits are all the rage in the summer heat for all the right reasons! These are stylish, comfortable, and feminine. The floral jumpsuit in the picture below looks perfect with basic sneakers, sunnies, and a transparent bag in royal blue color:

Think about it – even if your trip takes just one day, wearing fitting pants or skinny jeans is still a hell of a struggle in the hot summer days. So, a flowy jumpsuit is a perfect substitute in this case. Or, I also recommend loose culottes – a type of pants made out of breezy fabric. I wore such pants during my journey to Victoria Falls – they saved me from the relentless heat and humidity:

These are perfect for striking a fashion statement while giving enough space to your legs. This easy-peasy and travel-ready attire can be coupled with a fancy backpack and comfy sneakers.

What should one wear to the airport? Such clothes are all about comfort rather than looking good. However, it’s still possible to put together a stylish look. I’ve picked three ways below how you can look top-class with super comfort!

First up: leggings. These are insanely comfortable with a breathable fabric, which allows for easy movements and will look decent on you even after a long flight. 

You can pair black leggings with a white or any neutral-color T-shirt and some hoodie in case you’re cold. A simple backpack will add practicality to your outfit, and the sneakers are the best pick if you want your feet to feel comfortable: 

The next outfit is for those who want a classic all-white look. Snug joggers with a long-sleeved top will keep you cozy throughout the flight:

You’ll appear super chic in this outfit. And, if you don’t mind wearing jewelry during flights, add some gold hoops. You can finish the outfit with brown or any other neutral color sneakers. 

Finally, if the cold air in the plane doesn’t really bother you, try wearing a sleeveless crop top made of a cozy material. For the bottom, pick sweatpants in a contrasting shade and opt for fitness sneakers, like in the example below:

However, pur a sweatshirt hoodie in your backpack just in case – you don’t want to get sick on the plane. For accessories, a gold watch and hoops are a perfect match. A bucket hat adds a final touch to this ideal airport outfit. 

Summer travel outfits for a countryside vacation don’t always have to be boring. Believe it or not, there are tons of clothing inspirations fit to wear in the rural areas. That’s why I’ve let my creativity lose to come up with outfit ideas, so you could pick the one that resonates with you the most!!

To me, nothing screams countryside like a red checkered top. You can also throw in a jeans skirt and leather boots to complete the look: 

This combination is ideal for your pastoral getaway. A heart-shaped basket adds to the look, making it cute and romantic. 

The second outfit I recommend is based on silk and denim. From the jean shorts to a headscarf and a sleeveless silk top, this outfit looks perfect: 

Beige-colored toe sandals, bucket bag, sunnies, and tiny, floral earrings wrap up this silky smooth look. 

Finally, a long, floating dress with a basket bag and comfy trainers is a combo made especially for strolling in the fields. Finish the look with a light lip gloss, cool sunnies, and a high ponytail to look all dolled-up:

And don’t forget – always bring a jean jacket for your next countryside trip. It can be a little colder outside of town, especially in the evening.

Many travel destinations such as Bali, Maldives, and Costa Rica, unfortunately, have humid weather. But no worries – you still have plenty of options for summer travel outfits in sheer humidity. 

First and foremost, choose clothing items that aren’t too tight around your body. For instance, a breathable, long skirt will make sure that your legs don’t sweat. You can pair it up with a sleeveless top. And, easy-to-wear flat flip-flops will allow you to walk for hours without sweating, complementing the outfit and making it look relaxed:

I don’t recommend wearing heavy accessories. Just pick a lightweight bracelet, purse, and classic dark sunnies.

Another great outfit option to wear in high humidity is a cutout dress. These garments are usually made of cotton or other breathable fabrics that make your body feel comfortable and absorb sweat. Besides, cutout dresses look super cute:

This dress helps your skin breathe freely and makes you look fabulous at the same time. The open-toe sandals, golden hoops, and long-strapped purse follow the same principle – comfort with style. 

In general, if fashion is not a priority for you on a hot summer trip, blindly trust any clothing made of pure cotton. The cutout in the little dress below allows airiness, and the linen fabric cools your body. This way, a dress will not stick to the skin during humid days.

You can add a small basket bag and hat to protect you from sunlight. 

To me, city vacations are the most stressful ones. City fashion loves flaunting luxurious clothes, so you really need to think your outfits through if you also want them to be practical. That’s why I’ve put together three styles that will help you remain comfortable but also add chic to the look.

First comes the silky green top in the example below, which defines sophistication and creates a truly cosmopolitan style. Paired with this top, high-waisted, loose linen pants will instantly make you look posh:

Don’t forget to wear classy heeled sandals and a purse of the same color as your accessories. 

Want to look more casual instead of poised? I got you. In this case, loose shorts and a top with a backless crop are the right components for a seductive city outfit:

Little black purses and wedge heel sandals are always a good choice for such summer travel outfits. 

Lastly, a jumpsuit is one more thing that needs to be in your suitcase for a summer vacation in the city. Take a look at this floral red piece paired with lady-like heeled flip-flops:

I also recommend wearing simple, round earrings, sunglasses, a little purse, and some hair accessories with this outfit.

Summer vacation is incomplete without a trip to the beach, right? Cocktails, sunbathing, and refreshing in the beautiful sea – that’s what heaven on the Earth looks like. Besides swimsuits , in this article, I want to focus on other clothing options we can wear to the sunny beach.

First of all, I simply love the bikinis that clasp at the back of your neck, like the one you can see in the picture below:

Also, the light summer dresses as an addition will offer layered protection. Wear simple flip-flops, black sunnies, and throw in a good, big beach bag! 

Next come floral bikinis, which are a favorite for many women, including me. These are just the most adorable and can be paired with almost everything. Such bikinis look the best with denim shorts and some dark sunglasses like in the picture below:

You can’t deny it – this outfit will look absolutely gorgeous somewhere on a beach on the Black Sea cost in beautiful Bulgaria. To complete this look, you can add a simple tote bag and fancy sandals to make you look super-cute and feel comfortable.

Also, a flowy white dress reaching just above your knees is a great option if you’re not in the mood for swimming. Inspire yourself with this outfit:

Lastly, I haven’t forgotten our beautiful women thriving in their fifties! There are certain ways to still look sexy at this age, so don’t give up on yourself just yet. When it comes to summer travel outfits, middle-aged women can rock all attires by following some basic tips.

The fifties are characterized by many changes in the body. One of the irritating things is excessive sweating, which is why you need to focus on choosing light, comfortable and breathable clothes.

Elegant shirts, linen pants, and flat shoes are your best fashion friends during the summer months. Check out this simple and at the same timeless summer outfit you can wear for afternoon walks:

In my opinion, a linen shirt and pants are a winning combination. Despite long sleeves, it won’t be too hot for you because the linen fabric is very breathable. You can wear an outfit like this on the plane as well – it is very soft and comfy.

If you prefer dresses, spacious models with floral patterns will work best for you. You will look fresh and super fancy in such a dress, and it will let your body breathe. Besides, you won’t have problems styling it, just check this outfit below:

Look at this flowy dress, green slippers with floral detail, and a big black knit bag – doesn’t it look perfect for a vacation? As a fashion accessory and protection from the sun, there is a knitted hat and large sunglasses. This is also a perfect outfit for a countryside vacation and humid weather.

We are going on a 21 day transatlantic cruise to Rome. From there we will do Tuscany for a week and then two weeks in Croatia. I understand the capsule, but I’m struggling with how to prepare for cruise and land travel, since you usually have to have a few dress clothes/shoes for the cruise. Any suggestions? Thought about once we got off the cruise, shipping some of our closes home that we won’t need to Italy & Croatia.

Where is the hat from.

Traveling to Spain and Italy for 11 days and want to travel light and only pack in a carry on. With the mix and match outfits I’m assuming you wear them several times without washing them. Is there anything to use to keep clothing item smelling fresh? I know odd question but just thought I would ask. This is going to be my first travel experience.

Hi Alee, it’s actually a great question. Yes you would rewear some clothing but you can also do laundry half way through your trip if needed. Here are a few other tips:

1) hang up your clothing after wearing it to let it air out 2) spritz a bit of febreze of needed 3) stick a fabric softener sheet inside your luggage 4) choose fabrics that don’t absorb sweat and scents 5) pack more tops and less bottoms because it’s easier to rewear bottoms without washing 6) if traveling in the summer, take dresses!

Depending on the time of year you’re traveling, you could take 3 bottoms + 7 tops and only rewear 4 of the tops or just wash them by hand after a week. Choose easy to wash fabrics.

If you’re only spending on or two nights in each city and doing laundry on the go is difficult:

– For cold weather travel, wear merino wool thermals under everything – they can be worn for days and won’t absorb scents so you’ll only need one or two pairs. Since they’re closest to you skin you won’t need to wash the rest of your clothing. – For hot weather travel, clothing is lighter so you can pack 3-4 bottoms and 11 tops and not do any laundry at all. That’s the Maximista size capsule wardrobe and should still fit into a carry-on with packing cubes.

I’m doing 2 months in SEA next spring and have a gazillion clothes I barely wear that are basically brand new. What’s that Pareto rule – we use 20% of the things we have 80% of the time. OK I totally need help before my family accuses me of committing another atrocious OVER PACKING CRIME LMAO! We are going to Miami/Orlando for Thanksgiving week – 8 days. We will be going for a somewhat family vacation, daughter’s competitive event, enjoy a football game, Sea World, Magic Kingdom – the works – have fun, nothing crazy. Hi Lety, thanks for your comment! Mexico city is a very modern city and you’ll see many local fashionistas and hipsters. The Condesa and Roma areas in particular will leave you wishing you brought your coolest clothes from home.

You can most definitely wear leggings and skinny jeans/jeggings. I think when it says to avoid anything tight, think more along the lines of a clothing item that is overly fitted in your rear or bust area 😉

Shorts are actually ok however if they’re very short you’re rolling solo in some areas you may receive unwanted looks. Obviously shorts that are very short and revealing are never a good idea. I’d pack a pair if I were you, feel out the vibe and worse case, wear them over your leggings! The best way to wear shorts is to balance them out with a longer sleeve top 😉

Oh my! I have been googling and imaging minimalist wardrobe all day. Bonzai!! I am not going to “keep”, “toss” “donate”… i am going to toss my entire closet and going on a quest for these oh so versatile pieces. Where do you find leggings that fit? The ones I’ve tried always stretch out in the crotch making me feel like I’m a duck waddling along. I never wear leggings alone but can’t imaging the waddle with a cute pair of shorts or a shorter skirt.

Hi Katara, the trick is to wear leggings with tunics so you have a bit of extra coverage in all the right places 😉 Alternatively, you can find leggings that are “legging” type material but have a more structured pant style cut that won’t result in the stretched out crotch which is the crappy part of leggings.

Hi, My personal favorite cargo pants are the Kuhl roll-ups! Capri’s in an instant, and look nice either way. They also come in a pretty large number of colors, and roll up small enough to pack easily. I’ve also found that they tend to not wrinkle. If you like lighter weight cargoes, then I like LLBeans stretch version. They are called Vista Camp pants, and can roll up, or be pulled in at the ankle for a different look. Great tips! I always travel on planes in a dress with leggings. It’s at least as comfortable as tracksuit pants but much more versatile. Generally I’m traveling from a cold Melbourne winter to somewhere warm so when I get to my destination I can just take off the leggings & I’m ready to go.

I have seriously studied how to travel with less clothes, and have taken a carry on for my annual week in Maine. But, there is now way I would wear shorts that short. I am going to Germany and Poland next summer, for 13 days and was considering taking a duffle, instead of a carry on. But, maybe I can get by with just a carry on, after all. I do take a personal item, with my netbook, travel info. like tickets and itineraries, and plastic zipper bag of toiletries, as well as a book and my MP3 player.

Or if you go to a colder place, maybe you pack more pants and no shorts. You just have to adjust the lists and items for your own needs 🙂

Yes it’s nice to travel Europe without wheels – I used a duffle/wheel bag when I went in 2008. Found it nice to have access to both features. A carry on for 13 days sounds doable especially because you’d probably only need travel size toiletries – they can usually last a couple of weeks. safe travels!

Totally true. Too many options make simple decisions much more difficult! Packing smart is the way to go. I unfortunately, throw a bunch of things I “enjoy wearing” and just hope* things come together. Definitely going to start using this site to eliminate half of the stuff I never wear anyway while overseas! Trekking it all is such a headache.

As the peak season kicks off for resortwear designers who focus their craft on swimwear and airy separates destined for holidays, those not exclusively associated with sun-bound travels are equally in on the spirited wanderlust. Many vacation-ready trends emerged at the forefront of the Spring/Summer 2022’s collections, from nostalgic crochet to joyful fringe and naturally woven materials, all with a hand-crafted feel. Plus, an influx of artful prints and saturated colors , many featuring exquisite artisanal touches feeling apropos for the warm months ahead.

Anjali Patel Mehta , founder and creative director of Verandah , says 2022’s freshest vacation trends center around travel separates that carry sentimentality or a story. Additionally, she’s noticed a desire for more statement-making looks, as indicated by the bolder and brighter fashion she frequently witnesses on social media. She tells TZR, “People have this feeling of wanting to live life to the fullest and bring joy back to their lives [through] color and travel.” As a result of the season’s joyful aesthetic, Patel Mehta says muted color and monotone outfits are worth retiring, at least for the moment. “A few years ago, there was a lot of black, white, grey, camel. People want to be joyful now and are expressing that through color.”

Unsurprisingly with the continued Y2K mania , nostalgia has a lot to do with the current craving for wanderlust. “There’s a bit of a ’70s throwback this season,” Patel Mehta adds, including wider cut legs, silky matching separates, and tops and pants with matching bikinis. “We’re going to be seeing a lot of prints,” the Verandah designer continues — a signature of her line. “We tell stories through print, giving the wearer a connection to the product — something that makes an emotional statement and doesn’t require too much effort.”

The season also welcomes bold accessory trends to complement breezy vacation attire and swimwear, says Net-A-Porter’s fashion director Kay Barron . She tells TZR, “Chunky sandals are a great finale to mini dresses, while all the brights in ready-to-wear are just waiting for a color clash handbag.” Similarly, Patel Mehta says the ’70s nostalgia of chunky heels will suit those in the mood for sensual vacation fashion. “A great dress is the most impactful way to get dressed this season, not to mention the easiest,” Barron tells TZR. But rather than adding yet another white or neutral style to your arsenal, she says it’s all about minimum effort for maximum impact via throw-and-and-go designs in brilliant, bold colors, short and sweet hemlines, or exaggerated silhouettes. The goal: A dress that packs quite the punch.

“Of course, a magnificent dress is not just for the summer months,” Barron adds. “When the temperatures drop, just add hosiery and boots, and you will have that spring in your step all year round.”

Cool In Crochet

“Crochet is a big one,” says Patel Mehta of the biggest 2022 vacation trends. “People are looking for artisan-made [pieces] that can’t be found everywhere,” she adds — something crochet designs achieve both in bright colors or neutral shades. “Our macrame pieces that are hand-knotted have been very well received.”

Souped-Up Sandals

If one rule applies to footwear this season, it’s go big or go home, says Barron. “You got used to supersize boots, and now it’s the time of the supersize sandal,” the Net-A-Porter fashion director tells TZR. As a trend with range, she adds, “The once humble sandal is ready to give a strong finish to even the simplest of summer outfits,” including chunky soles, big buckle energy, and styles that wrap up the leg.

Cutouts For The Win

As Y2K fashion continues to surge, Patel Mehta says the skin-baring look remains especially prominent in the resortwear realm. So whether you’re for a subtle skin reveal or choose to confidently bare a bit more, the season comes with many tops, dresses, and swimwear styles for your desired effect. Besides, if there’s anywhere to feel at ease in a cutout silhouette, it’s on vacation.

Bright Bags

Patel Mehta says the bold color trend applies well to vacation attire for statement-making style. Similarly, Barron says vibrant bags are a stylish and tempered approach to the mega-bright movement if saturated clothing feels too bold. “A new bag is the quickest way to update your look and nod to the new season,” says the Net-A-Porter fashion director. “Dip your toe in with a bold bag as an accessory highlight. Balenciaga’s Le Cagole is always a good idea, and we will bet that azure blue will soon become your go-to summer shade.”

Matching Separates

The matching set is often at the crux of a vacation wardrobe — a look Patel Mehta and Barron agree will remain prominent in 2022. “They say that two is always better than one, and that definitely applies to matching separates for Spring/Summer 2022,” Barron says. “Head-to-toe coordination is a fun seasonal update, not to mention a really efficient approach to getting dressed.”

This trend also offers a range, from tops and bottoms in twinning prints to coordinating colors, like Peter Do’s ivory silk pairings — a personal favorite of the Net-A-Porter fashion director, which will appeal to more minimal tastes.

Though minis were all over the Spring/Summer 2022 runways, Patel Mehta says the maxi will play a significant role in vacation wear, though, with a bit less volume than in previous seasons. Versions you can throw on over a bikini or wear to dinner will be a 2022 escape essential in a mix of colors and fabrics.

Versatile Pieces

Patel Mehta predicts a rise in versatile vacation pieces that can be styled in many different ways. This trend lends itself to easy dressing and simplifies packing so you can avoid cramming an excessive number of looks into one suitcase.

“My pieces can be dressed up or down with different accessories, worn in the city or at the beach,” the Verandah designer tells TZR. “We design scarf shirts , for example, that can be worn differently to make it your own. The drape plays a large part of it,” she continues. “You can tie it around your neck or just over one shoulder, tuck it in, or leave it out.”

Other versatile staples to invest in include fluid yet tailored trousers and shirts, swimwear that doubles as a bodysuit, pareos that go from skirts to tops, and dresses that work well as coverups but transition effortlessly to daily life.

Bucket Hats

Patel Mehta says buckets hats remain a key accessory to punctuate vacation attire this season. You can go the super-nostalgic route with a vibrant color or print, logo-emblazed design, or terry-cloth texture. Or, choose a subtler version like one crafted from natural fabrics or lightweight materials like crochet, cotton, or linen.

“ I think what makes beach dressing fun and fashionable is the freedom to try something new and embrace a look outside your typical style,” Patricia Bonaldi, founder and creative director of PatBo, tells WWD. “I know so many New Yorkers who wear head-to-toe black in the city, but lean into color and print for the beach as a fun, different expression of their style.” 

What to Wear to the Beach

We saw a lot of runway trends perfect for the beach this Spring/Summer 2022 season. Vacation was on many designers’ minds, from crochet summer dresses at Gabriela Hearst and Jonathan Simkhai, to surfer style taking center stage at Stella McCartney, Etro and Isabel Marant. Even the return of gladiator and other cute summer sandals at Alberta Ferretti and Valentino, instantly sparked ideas of dreamy, vacation-ready outfits. However, both our experts agree, you don’t have to follow the trends when it comes to forming your perfect beach capsule wardrobe.

“ I personally don’t tend to follow trends; I dress with my gut and what makes me feel good,” Bonaldi says. “I also love exactly that — a beach wardrobe! — pieces that are versatile and not just swim, but for the boat, seaside dinners and exploring the town, while still feeling comfortable and beachy,” agrees Marysia Dobrzanska Reeves, founder of Marysia. “ I’m not a super trends driven designer. I had this plaid print designed for years and it finally felt right to add it in. I loved our green plaid last season and wanted to continue in a slightly different feel but super strong, yet soft, by adding the water colored polka dots by my friend, artist Caitlin McGauley.” 

So what is important when shopping for beach outfits? “ Comfort! When you are comfortable in your own skin, your confidence shows,” Reeves tells WWD, while Bonaldi confirms that “for functionality, the key is to feel super comfortable, supported and free to not stress about the swimsuit brands and or the clothes after you unpack. Being on vacation and at the beach is a time to have fun and relax, not to worry or feel discomfort! I think about this every time I design for the beach and always aim for versatile, comfortable, chic, joyful and flattering.”

These 15 Pieces Are All You Need to Pack for Vacation

Vacations are supposed to be stress-free, and there is one surefire way to keep your next vacation relaxed before you leave your house. We're talking about packing the right pieces to ensure your vacation wardrobe is on point and easy to carry, especially if you're limited to just a carry-on.

Thankfully, celebrity stylists know a thing or two about packing light and packing right , and they've weighed in on the 15 pieces you should always bring along for a flawless traveling wardrobe. Together, their picks create the ultimate vacation capsule wardrobe that allows you to save room in your suitcase while still having many day-to-day options to choose from, no matter how long your stay.

A White Tee

When packing for vacation, celebrity stylist Tara Swennen suggests choosing neutral colors for the base of your looks, and a cropped or traditional white tee is a perfect example. "These pieces can be layered as much as possible and go with just about anything: knit pencil skirts, drawstring linen pants, overalls, high-waisted jeans... the list goes on and on," Swennen says. "They are truly the most versatile and lightweight piece to bring!"

Cropped Trousers

Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to pack bottoms of every shape and color when going on vacation. To keep things simple, Swennen says she likes to stick with three pairs of pants in three basic colors so that she can mix and match them with other neutral or fun pattern tops throughout her stay. "A black, white, and neutral pair will carry to just about anything and can be styled day to night by simply swapping a thing to a heel," she tells us. "I like linens, crepes, or a stretchy fabric that doesn't wrinkle easily and therefore can carry you through a few occasions!"

A Bucket Hat

Give your vacation wardrobe a bit of throwback energy starting with the bucket hat —a.k.a., the perfect accessory to block out the sun or to add a bit of panache to your polo shirt and trousers, according to fashion stylist Mickey Freeman . "Bucket hats are giving men and women of all ages and walks of life shade while keeping them 'cool,'" he tells InStyle .

A Multi-Faceted Mini Skirt

Raise your hand if you've ever worn a mini skirt as a shirt. If not, celebrity stylist Britt Theodora highly recommends giving this (brilliant) hack a try. "I love two-in-one pieces especially if you are packing a carry-on," Theodora says. "I would style [a skirt] with linen high-waisted pants if I were wearing it as a shirt. If wearing it as a skirt, I would style it with a tie-at-the-tummy button-up shirt!"

Blue jeans and white tees go together like pool bars and bay breezes, but Swennen says that a pair of A+ jeans will get far more than one use on your vacation. "Blue jeans are extremely versatile. Wear them with a loose-fitting blouse, a T-shirt, a duster for an early evening stroll, or with a sexy, tight, knit top for a night on the town," she says.

Cutoff Shorts

While we're on the subject of denim, cutoff shorts are another great example of a piece that can easily be dressed up or down. To do this, Freeman suggests using cool accessories like stacked bracelets or necklaces to add a personal touch. Don't be afraid to rock cut-offs with a pair of wedges or heeled sandals and be sure to have fun with accessories. You are on vacation, after all.

By simply swapping flip-flops for a pair of sexy strappy heels or even some coastal cowgirl -inspired boots, Swennen says that sundresses can be your perfect done-in-one day-to-night piece for a summer vacation. "Pair with a belted blazer, layer with a fun sweater or wrap for the evening, or keep it casual wedges and a fun tote! It's a summer must!"

A Linen Button-Down

Button-downs make for great tops, but they also make for great layering pieces as well. Theodora says she loves throwing an oversized men's fit "over bathing suits, with jean shorts or unbuttoned."

A Statement Accessory

While you may not need to stuff five pairs of shoes into your suitcase, according to Swennen, a statement accessory is something you might consider adding in. "This could be as simple as a vintage chain Chanel belt or an amazing collar necklace," she tells us. "This will be the one thing that helps elevate your daytime look to a fun evening occasion."

Don't feel comfortable traveling with the family jewels? Opt for a statement headband instead.

Rope Sandals

Speaking of footwear, as far as Theodora is concerned, rope sandals should be a staple in your vacation wardrobe. "I love styling pops of colors with my outfits and these shoes are great for mixing it up!"

A Swim Coverup

The one piece to pack for any warm-weather vacation would have to be a coverup, says Aerie director of styling Erin Collins Rittling , who suggests a colorful option as the perfect pick. "Designed to take you to the beach and beyond, the right coverup is perfect to throw over a swimsuit during the day or can be dressed up for a night out by adding a touch of jewelry or embellished headband."

A Wicker Tote

According to celebrity stylist Tyler Minor wicker totes are the It vacation bag because they're so versatile. "These handbags are great to hold your towel and SPF at the beach, or throw a fun scarf around the handle and take it to a fabulous lunch."

Birkenstock Sandals

Love them or hate them, Birkenstocks are back for good, and Freeman is vouching for them as a vacation must-have. Your Favorite Sunglasses

Don't forget your sunnies! While any pair and style will do (whatever makes you feel the best), Freeman tells InStyle he gravitates towards aviators "because they provide maximum coverage, which protects you against those unrelenting sun rays and can also bring a hint of masculinity to the colorful looks people tend to gravitate towards while on vacation."

A Colorful Kimono

As far as this writer is concerned, Kimono-like styles aren't talked about nearly enough in the fashion realm, and Minor concurs. "Kimonos are great for summer vacations," he tells InStyle . "They can be worn at the pool or you can pair them with a bralette and some cut-off denim shorts for a day of exploring."

Summer 2022 Trends: The Only 16 Looks You Need to Know About

I am so excited about 2022’s summer trends . The overarching mood on the S/S 22 runways was one of real optimism, but where the previous season perhaps went into overdrive with the desire (desperation?) to get dressed up for even the most low-key of weekly grocery shops, the outlook for summer is that there is a time and place to be extra fabulous but still a strong demand and a necessity for easy, simple, luxurious, gorgeous clothes and  outfits you can fling on in a hurry. There are places to go, people to see and the many ensembles to suit. So while on the one hand there's a very clear shift toward a revealing, ultra-sassy, cut-to-here-and-slashed-to-there kind of dressing , there's also a very chic, understated antithesis at play. It speaks to a modern shopper's whims and natural inclination to change one's mind. Some days you might channel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in a classic, all-beige getup and others more Dua Lipa in a rad minidress and stacked platforms. We are complex characters, and our wardrobes, and favorite brands, must keep up. 

As fashion expert Lianne Wiggins, head of womenswear at MATCHESFASHION.COM , explains, we are living through "the anything-goes mood of now," which means that the old tropes of things being "in" or "out" is in itself redundant. It means you can be as wild and adventurous as you like with your spring trends or, indeed, as basic as can be. Sit in the middle? Me too. Every personal style can be catered for in the summer 2022 fashion-trend  lineup. 

It was invigorating and inspiring to see runway shows return (almost) to normal, and "fashion moments" were plentiful, playful, and highly shareable, and as such, a few went viral . Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia merged a runway and a fake movie premiere celebrity red carpet to celebrate the arrival of a new collection. In addition, the brand created a fashion take on a Simpsons episode.  Gucci took over Hollywood with a runway chocked with high-profile friends of the brand in extravagant costume-inspired pieces that wouldn't look out of place in a 1940s blockbuster. Chanel's '90s supermodel–inspired collection saw endless Instagram posts capturing sashaying models in monochromatic bikinis. Fashion fun was clearly back on the menu, and it was served up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Tom Ford  alluded to a theory behind the more outré collections when he told Vogue Runway how Instagram has changed the game and made many people focus on how clothes translate into imagery, saying, "Photogenic clothes today by their very nature mean that they are not at all timid," and he was one of many designers to dive headfirst into loud colors, revealing cuts, and high-shine finishes, all of which live very comfortably on screens and in a digital world of dress-up. In fact, one could draft the following as the blueprint for spring/summer 2022's showier half: Loud! Bright! Daring! Revealing! If it's not turning heads or garnering likes, it's clearly not extra enough.

As influential as runways are, trends are not solely born on them. There was a clear direction coming from Gen Z and their social media platform of choice— TikTok —to be seen across the shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Youth is still currency in fashion circles but not necessarily in the same way as before: You don't have to be young to be hip, but you sure as hell can steal the outfit ideas and reference points of a younger generation. The nineties, noughties, and even the 2010s have been plundered for inspiration, with many looks echoing the fashion choices shared on the likes of both TikTok and the coolest Depop resellers' accounts. No brand did it more authentically than Blumarine: The brand was known for its kitsch-cool back in the day, and now the look is ironically reflective of the archive. Looking for that denim butterfly top you owned in '99? Or how about those low-slung Miss Sixty–esque jeans? This brand is the ringleader for every person aspiring to that aesthetic and with unashamed dedication, too. 

But there's more! So much more, which is why we couldn't narrow it down to a main trend or two but instead have found 16 key looks, pieces, details, and ideas that create the most important summer 2022 fashion trends, with expert insight to back them up .

On the other end of the color spectrum and sitting in a far quieter zone is a rise in interesting, ultra-luxe but ultimately very wearable wardrobe staples. This doesn't translate as boring, and I'm not talking about basic tees that cost a fortune, more low-key staples with interesting twists: a trench coat with a unique lapel, a co-ord set with quirky buttons, a pair of tailored trousers in a more unusual silky-satin finish. 

The leading shopping app, Lyst , is expecting this trend to really resonate with consumers in summer 2022: "As the fashion world awaits Phoebe Philo’s return, we expect to see an increasing demand for minimalistic pieces. Since September, we’ve seen a rise in searches for monochromatic co-ords (+33%), neutral tones (+22%), white shirts (+41%), leather loafers (+57%) and wide-leg suit trousers (+55%), all reflecting a move towards a more low-key luxury approach."

In fact, some of the most raved-about spring/summer 2022 shows (when I looked in real time on the handles of fashion insiders—particularly buyers) skewed toward this more minimalist and understated approach. Peter Do's debut runway during New York Fashion Week was one that many an expert got behind and really set the tone for a new wave of get-up-and-go outfits.

"Versatility and ease are more important than ever, and this can be achieved with basics with a twist, modern classics, and muted tones, all of which are the vital pieces every wardrobe needs to help elevate the simplest of looks," says  style expert Libby Page, senior market editor at Net-a-Porter . "We're seeing our customers invest more in quality basics and timeless pieces that can be worn for seasons and even years to come, so when those pieces have an additional quirky element, they're sold! Our favorites for summer 2022 include Peter Do's maxi shirt, Jil Sander's yellow boxy blazer, and Victoria Beckham's oversize shirt in mellow blue."

According to Google Trends , from December 2020 to December 2021, the searches for "platform shoes" doubled. Over the past few months in particular, since "Freedom Day" finally came around (and subsequently went), the desire for revenge heels has resulted in resonance with content and social posts we have produced around party shoes and incredible heels. However, now that many of us have experienced the comfort and ease of wearing chunky, stompy flats throughout every season, there's no going back. This has culminated in designers looking at platform shoes for every level of elevation and every possible task: There is still a strong lean toward sensible sandals you can walk all day in but now varying degrees of high-heel platforms you could consider for work, for parties, or for simply being chauffeur-driven in. 

These stacked shoes, sandals, and boots were everywhere, from casual collections like the breezy bohemian look at Chloé to amped-up ranges like Versace's fun-fun-fun going-out looks. From foam-bottomed Velcro sandals and thick-soled flip-flops through to strappy, metallic, high-high heels, there's a little lift to be had, no matter what your personal preference might be. 

On the fancy, OTT end of the spectrum, there is one new brand in particular that fashion editors, stylists, and buyers are all keen to tell you about. D'Accori's sculptural, extra-high platform sandals—particularly the Belle style—have already been chosen by the likes of Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, and Lady Gaga, so we expect this name will be everywhere in summer 2022. 

Midi skirts have reigned supreme for some time now—at least the past decade—but during the summer of 2021, we started to notice an uptick in people on our Instagram and TikTok feeds moving back into maxis. The trend looks set to continue strongly in 2022, with key brands such as Louis Vuitton and Givenchy backing the cut. There is a Y2K lilt to these hemlines descending, with simple tube styles that fit closer to the ankles being more present than, say, a hippy, tiered cut. 

"I like this trend because it stands out even if it is a simple color or cut,"  personal shopper and fashion expert Angelina Pietrafesa   told me earlier in the year . "Extremes rather than 'in the middle' are proving popular, and I personally prefer to go really short or really long. Extreme lengths are easily paired and contrasted, always creating a more dramatic look, day and night."

Who What Wear UK editor Emma Spedding  is sold on the addition of maxi into her summer 2022 wardrobe: "The Givenchy black slip skirt is perhaps the coolest—it's simple but looks like something Gwyneth Paltrow would have worn in the '90s so has lots of cool points. Pair with a white T-shirt and chunky sandals, and you have an effortless, elegant summer look."

Lyst  confirms the concept and can already see the rise in interest: "Short hemlines might be defining the current season, but maxi long lines are coming in hot for the next one. 'Oversized' and 'maxi' are already amongst the most popular keywords when looking at dresses, and we predict that the trend will continue in the coming months." And as such, the trend is already filtering into stores, particularly when rendered in pull-on ribbed jersey and knit options, which act as an easy base for creative layering and cool tops or jackets. 

As previously discussed (feared?), there's no escaping Y2K in 2022. The noughties have been plundered for all their worth, and the outcomes show a sliding scale of dedication to the past. Some looks are just a subtle hit of reminiscence; others are a full-blown homage. So you can channel Britney, Mariah, Xtina, et al., in an excess of denim or butterfly tops with low-slung trousers, or you can opt for more minimalist, muted pieces that are simply echoing the silhouettes of the time like boot cuts, skimpy shirts, and crop tops. 

According to Edited 's deep dive on the season's offering, Y2K came up time and again—too often to ignore. "Nostalgia prevailed, with designers taking cues from eras past to influence future trends. Circa-2000 exposed midriffs, low-slung denim, butterfly patterns, and micro miniskirts were noted at Blumarine, Chanel, and Fendi's Versace presentation. Mini styles are currently 46% of skirts stocked online at fast-fashion retailers. While hip-hugging jeans are divisive among consumers, brands are banking on this silhouette and modernizing it for summer 2022. The style has experienced a 21% increase YoY, with retailers attaching low waistbands to slouchy, relaxed fits to make the trend more palatable."

Holly Tenser, buying manager of ready-to-wear at Browns, says, "We love a good era revival, and this has to be one of my personal favorites of late. Y2K fashion brings back so many strong memories and references throughout the music and pop-culture scene of the late '90s and '00s. We have some incredible new brands launching for spring/summer 2022, which really encapsulate this movement, such as Poster Girl, with their iconic cutout shapewear and mesh party dresses, as well as Kim Shui's collection that referenced pop culture throughout and encouragingly presented strong body inclusivity down the runway. We recently launched firm favorite Knwls and love her incredible leather bustier styles and printed minidresses with matching printed leggings. We've also seen the return of low-slung cargo pants and bootleg or loose, oversize denim from super-brands Balenciaga, Balmain, and Tom Ford through to contemporary designers such as Wandler denim and Agolde."

"We love how the Y2K trend has put Gen Z firmly on the map as key shoppers and the future of fashion. But also not forgetting the burst of nostalgia that comes with each low-slung waist and plush miniskirt from the other generations revisiting the trend a second time around!" says Page . "This is a trend we are certainly backing for summer 22, and we can't wait to launch two incredible new designers, LaQuan Smith and Supriya Lele—they are ones to watch if you're into diamanté-rich bodysuits and super-fun asymmetric cutouts."

When it comes to 2022's very extra-AF mood, nothing quite seals the deal like an outfit covered in feathers. This is a fabrication trend that has been on the rise for some time now, with this festive season's party dressing being full of the stuff. From Sleeper's instantly recognizable and oft-copied feather pj's through to Taller Marmo's fabulous, frou-frou gowns, our social feeds are full of this playful look. Searches for "feather dresses" are four times more than this time last year, according to Google Trends, and even a cursory look on the high street will show that this is starting to hit the mainstream, with feathered pieces available at the likes of Kitri, ASOS, and River Island.

Valentino was one of the brands most committed to the idea, with vibrantly colored pieces covered entirely in matching ostrich feathers—even the accessories matched, which is indicative of how many of us will tap into the look. Feathered shoes and bags feel more approachable than a full, peacocking ensemble. Although, I'm certain we'll see more and more of this finish in fashion circles.

As this trend lends itself very well to occasionwear, we predict it will make a big play for the wedding guest looks of 2022. However, there are more casual options available too: Right now, on Instagram, you'll find simple, feather-trimmed shirts or jeans playing a very normal part of day-to-day wardrobes and the aforementioned Sleeper pajamas continually selling out.

It's funny how, when given all the fashion options in the world, designers can't help but default back to the safety of a uniform. Classic pieces and combinations you'd instantly associate with what you once wore to school have come back into the limelight. Although, the way in which they're styled just might be more rebellious than you remember. It's preppy but definitely not prim. 

Across the runways, we saw outfits that harked back to proper school uniforms. Think V-neck knits, pleated skirts, socks, loafers, and plain white shirts. Raf Simons and Miu Miu led the pack, with Raf's take more grunge and scruffy and Miuccia's sassy and stomach-baring. Both are rebels, and the concept here is to take the pillars of the uniform and turn them on their heads. 

There were sporty looks for track-and-field types too, with rugby shirts and cricket sweaters making multiple appearances. Meanwhile, Dior created a series of simple black-and-white '60s-infused looks that felt like school costumes from an old French movie and were therefore as cute as can be. The trend has a wide range of options for all personal styles, but it's a look that never really fades away and makes for a safe investment.

As far as new silhouettes go, this is the primary update for spring/summer 2022, and I'm personally feeling pretty psyched about it. It's been a long time since the puffball looked so good—I recall the last time I was interested was thanks to Carrie Bradshaw's floral vintage dress from the first movie. (Remember the one with the giant red roses and big, poufy peplum over a pencil skirt?) The extreme outline has been pinched from the 1980s and totally modernized for the season ahead. Loewe's voluminous hems looked fresh on denim skirts, Simone Rocha's bouncy tulle dresses were somehow transformed into daywear by nana-ish cardigans, and—if you're looking for high-octane after-dark—no one did it better than Richard Quinn. "With the Y2K and the 1980s resurgence in full swing, more shoppers are looking into bolder options," says LYST , and this retro reference fits the bill if diving into the noughties just isn't for you.

One of my favorites within this niche trend came thanks to Hedi Slimane for Celine. His puffball-skirted floral dress looked oh so easy to fling on by adding in box-fresh sneakers and a cropped jacket—it is a formula that could really work on the streets of London, and I hope to see it replicated IRL. 

The addition of puffball hems isn't solely tied to dresses and skirts. The detail works well for a nice-top-and-jeans pairing, a combination that has proven to be extra popular all year long and won't be fading out any time soon. 

As well as Y2K and super-bright colors, the final contender in spring/summer's top trio of trends has to include this new take on sexy. "It's been refreshing to see sexy and empowering silhouettes for summer 2022; think short, sheer, and sparkles," says Emma Ilori, head of the womenswear elevation at Flannels .   "We were particularly excited to see the return of the super-micro miniskirt, which dominated Miu Miu's collection. Another brand that was an advocate for sexy was Saint Laurent, which centered its collection around nighttime styles, from skin-tight catsuits that daringly revealed skin to plunging necklines. Confident designs dominated the catwalk… Partywear is back!"

The concept comes in many forms, from sheer fabrics to cutout everything, shrunken silhouettes to formfitting body-con pieces. There's netting and lace, bra tops, and miniskirts, and many are balanced out by oversize tailored or flat, chunky shoes to give a modern, laid-back spin. "A stalwart detail of the sexed-up theme, cutouts have seen a 57% increase in tops and 143% in dresses YoY," Edited  tells me. "Another element synonymous with sexy, sheer materials has increased 7% versus 2020. Retailers have evolved their assortments, so tops are 45% of sheer investments, down from 54%, while dresses are 26% versus 22% YoY. We can expect this trend to be more commonplace in spring 2022 partywear assortments, following iterations of see-through dresses shown at Saint Laurent and Missoni."

"In terms of the new sexy dressing, our customer is a leader—she dresses for herself and she's very empowered," says Cassie Smart, head of womenswear at MATCHESFASHION.COM . "This is also about body confidence; the season's co-ords emphasize your best features with a focus on new erogenous zones, such as shoulder cutouts, which feel body-friendly. There's also a lot of … using fabrics that flatter all shapes in an effortless and approachable way." And as such, it was refreshing and exciting to see many of these looks showcased on the runway with non-straight-sized models as well as seeing pieces configured into really nonchalant looks (see Prada's knit-and-mini above), proving that revealing skin or dressing in a super-sassy way is not just for the ultra-slim or the showoffs out there.

I've been writing about bag trends for almost 15 years now, and I can tell you the same few ideas come around time and again. Worth investing in, IMHO? Premium logo bags. The monogram has survived economic depressions, entire mood shifts and many a gimmicky trend to always be covetable, classic and, in many cases, hold its resale value. This coming summer, logo bags are omnipresent. There are some totally new takes that have "future collectible" written all over them: the very rare coming together of two fashion houses—Fendi and Versace to create Fendace—being top of the tree. Loewe's new logo is understated and chic. Chanel's simple totes are the same. 

Luxury brands that are well-known for their branded goods, such as Louis Vuitton, have pushed into new territory with different fabrics, such as this intricate cutout LV monogram overlay. Many of the most important designer bags of this year also feature recognizable logos or, at the very least, a branded clasp, so if you own something along these lines, you're already tapping into summer 2022's big handbag trend.

In terms of silhouettes, you'll see an increase in supersize totes and shoppers for summer 2022, both inclusive and exclusive of this particular logo trend. Although smaller crossbody styles are still very popular and highly practical, our lives have required bigger, chuck-everything-in bags over the past 18 months, and so it's no surprise that it will continue into the future. 

The desire for clothes and accessories that speak to our most fabulous holiday selves was plain to see across the S/S 22 runways. Some designers really tapped into aesthetics from specific places across the globe, but there was an overarching mood of luxe, bohemian looks that would be suited to any exotic location. The trend centers on craftsmanship and tactile fabrics, rich colors, and an excess of detailing—the kind of pieces that are incredibly hard to reproduce on the high street. However, you will likely see a translation to more affordable stores through elements such as tie-dye, crochet, sarong skirts, and tasseled bags. 

There is a no-holds-barred approach for 2022's bohemian set. The more accessories, the better, and the more dedicated to the look you can be, the more it carries off. This isn't a case of simply nodding to a trend but trying to live it, and if the travel opportunity presents itself, then take it. Otherwise, these clothes will happily exist in towns and cities regardless.

"We've always been very passionate about craftsmanship," says Smart . "Our customer is looking for authenticity and really connects with artisanal design. At Chloé, Gabriela Hearst is putting the spotlight on craftspeople and drawing attention to global artisans. This product doesn't feel driven by trend or time; it feels collectible." In fact, it is Gabriela Hearst—both within her eponymous line and that of the French fashion house—who is really spearheading this movement toward slower, artisanal fashion and how ethical and consciously produced clothes can still be highly covetable. 

It's the retail gift that keeps on giving. Co-ords are now a staple part of any wardrobe and category menu on every e-commerce site. They come in many guises, but the past two years of stretch waistbands have led to an ongoing love affair for knits, jerseys and other more forgiving and comfortable fabrics. London up-and-comer Chet Lo's spiky, stretchy pieces are so hyped up that they've even been worn by virtual influencers such as Lil Miquela.

There are multiple iterations for two-, three-, and four-piece co-ord looks, ranging from loose-fitting trousers with cropped jumpers through to ribbed cycling shorts worn with open shirts. There are long dresses over skinny pants, ladylike cardigans and pencil skirts… In essence, a co-ord exists for you and you alone. You simply have to hunt it down. One of my favorite and the most interesting-looking offerings came from ACNE Studios, with this scalloped and net-like knit miniskirt and long-sleeve cardigan: It has Instagram grid written all over it. 

"The appeal of a co-ord is that it looks put together and polished however is as comfortable as wearing a tracksuit and requires little to no styling," says Spedding . "Next spring, there are some subtle styling tweaks, such as unbuttoning cardigans to reveal a flash of skin at the midriff and a spin on a skirt suit with matching cardigans and skirts. Elleme's ribbed knit cardigan-and-shorts set is the chicest one I've seen."

If you're getting married in 2022, then lucky you! The range of white dresses available, both bridal and not specifically bridal, are plentiful. Perhaps as a palate cleanser to all of the loud and bold styles happening elsewhere for the season, we have seen a veritable banquet of delicious white dresses coming in strong. Short, long, day, evening, fancy, beachy, sexy, modest… You name it. There's a white dress to match. Many of the styles I gravitated toward had some pretty special detailing like full skirts, ruffles, pie-crust collars, or delicate cutouts, but I know I'd get plenty of wear out of a very plain white shirt dress when the temperature soars.

"I didn't wear a white dress when I got married, but I fully intend on embracing spring/summer 2022's bridal vibes," says Who What Wear UK's acting assistant editor, Maxine Eggenberger . "White dresses dominated the runway in just about every way you can think of—tulle, crochet, linen, satin—and in every length, making for a spectacle in its purest form. Whether you choose Erdem's whimsical ruffles, Et Ochs's sultry cutouts, or Rodarte's lace-trimmed slip, you're sure to find your frock soul mate in the latest collections."

With the concept of the "bridal wardrobe" (that's a range of different looks for your big day, weekend, or any other length of time) on the increase since restrictions eased, wedding-friendly options in many forms are a clever bet for designers looking to explore different retail categories. The behavioral shift also extends to the concept of renting out your old bridal look as well as hiring pieces to bulk out your celebratory capsule. Additionally, some brides are keen to rewear their own wedding ensembles for other occasions, and the above Molly Goddard–approved combination of trousers layered under a flouncy white dress provides an offbeat and cool option. 

The movement for big, big blazers isn't a new one. This trend has been bubbling up for quite a few seasons in a row, but it's the first time we've started to see it segue into high-street so easily. Right now, you'll find great options at Arket, COS, H&M, and & Other Stories, to name but a few of our trusted affordable stores. To ramp it up, designers are taking things further for summer 2022. Sleeves are going long, shoulder bags are even larger, and in some instances, these giant blazers are worn with nothing else at all—looking at you, Saint Laurent. 

"I know the word timeless is bandied around a lot in fashion, but really, you don't get more timeless than a blazer. At the time of writing, I estimate that I own around 10 blazers, with each one possessing its own unique personality. This is why I, unsurprisingly, fell hard for 2022's oversize-blazer trend, coveting the styles that were sent down the runways of Balenciaga, Prada, and Sportmax," says former  Who What Wear UK shopping editor Joy Montgomery . "While they look undeniably chic when worn loose with matching trousers, I personally love the effect of cinching an XXL blazer with a belt and adding slim-fit trousers. My husband's tuxedo blazer fits the bill nicely."

As previously noted by Lyst, the word "oversize" is cropping up more and more on its shopping app, and you can also see over on Google Trends that since 2018, searches for "oversized blazer" have been steadily growing, reaching a peak at the start of the autumn/winter 2021 season. They played a big part in the runways for autumn and look primed to be just as pivotal for spring, the primary difference being that where trouser suits were leading the way, the oversize blazer is now a statement piece in its own right or can be worn as a dress. 

When it comes to elegant trends for summer 2022, nothing beats this one. Beautifully draped, ruched, and pleated fabrics are flattering, romantic, and very timeless. This is a technique that many designers—like Rick Owens—have been honing over the decades, but that's not to say some newer brands aren't totally nailing it. A huge portion of Richard Malone's collection at London Fashion Week featured beautifully draped dresses, the kind of which one could wear forevermore, even if your weight and body shape fluctuate. 

"With Dimitra Petsa's wet-look dresses making a wave amongst celebrities and numerous brands, including Richard Malone, Rick Owens, and Loewe showing more sculptural pieces in their 2022 collections, we expect that spring will be a season full of draping details," says Lyst . Lizzo, Gigi Hadid, FKA Twigs, and Khloé Kardashian have all chosen Petsa's wet-look dresses, but if that feels a little extreme for day-to-day wear then there are plenty of options rendered in thicker and more modest fabrics. You can wear them for occasions like weddings or the races, but they can be just as easy to throw on for a day at the office.

Although many iterations of this trend revolve around stretchy fabrics and body-con fits, there's also a more avant-garde route you can take with artfully constructed looser pieces, like silk tops or billowing skirts. 

Just when you thought miniskirts were daring enough, along comes a designer trend for actual bikini tops to be worn any day of the week! From surfers at Isabel Marant (who layered theirs over tees) to little black triangle tops worn with smart suiting, there was no escaping this styling idea for summer '22. 

"Resortwear is such a feel-good department; it just makes you want to permanently be on holiday, instantly evoking great memories of time in the sun. It was great to see so many brands moving into this world and announcing their place in this category by presenting bikinis and the like on the runway," says Tenser . "We saw bikinis, bras/bralettes, and cutout bodysuits dominate with new updates, moving away from the soft comfort of the cashmere bralettes of the last few seasons from brands such as Khaite and Alanui. These new fresh iterations were strong, sexy, and daring, with soft bondage-style strap details from Nensi Dojaka, Knwls, and Givenchy. "

Although the majority of bikini tops featured on the runways were black and as simple as can be, there were some sweeter options available too, such as this candy-pink version worn with a gingham skirt suit at Michael Kors Collection. This look also reflected the variety in moods that can be connected to this one, teeny tiny piece of clothing. Will it take off for real? We'll just have to wait and see…

So good it had to be featured in both iterations, Proenza Schouler's brightly colored, knitted, fringed dresses are going to be THE pieces to get your hands on for spring/summer. Mark my words! Fringing is a long-time bedfellow of the hotter months, but there's something distinctly less hippy about this season's versions. Tassel trims have been introduced to much simpler silhouettes and plain-colored items, which makes them feel more timeless. 

However, that's not to say some designers didn't have a really fantastic time experimenting with fringe! London's leading lights seem to really adopt the detail with great enthusiasm: Roksanda's artsy knits were all the more fascinating and exciting for the giant, colorful threads that adorned them, while Halpern—a brand known for deft sequin usage—switched gears to an explosion of tassels to create dresses worthy of a spot in a gallery.

What this trend taps into is our yearning to feel fabrics again and have tactile experiences. After months and months of shopping online, the excitement of touching these kinds of clothes is high. Additionally, it's these complicated fabrics that are establishing a distance between true luxury goods and the fast-paced churn of knockoffs, as it's very difficult for affordable brands to create pieces to this kind of level.

13 Summer 2022 Fashion Trends to Try and Buy Before the Season Ends

It feels hard to escape the sheer amount of summer 2022 fashion trends I’ve seen emerge: Cargo pants. Clogs. Jorts . Mesh dresses. Every season, my wish list of trends to try and buy gets larger, and so does the price tag that comes along with them. Luckily, sale season is upon us and can provide a fairly easy way to test out some of the looks I love at a fraction of the cost. 

Not only are some of this season’s hero products constant classics, but you probably already have a few pieces in your wardrobe. If you don’t, keep reading to find 13 summer 2022 fashion trends—both old and new—that feel like a breath of fresh air. Happy shopping.

Colorful flats

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again — athleisure is where it’s at on a travel day. While I love the chic, polished idea of traveling in jeans and a pressed blazer (something about this is so dreamy to me), it’s not realistic for me. Amazon Prime Day has grown into one of the biggest sales events of the year, with discounts rivaling those of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. With so many retailers selling on Amazon, Prime members can save on just about anything, from viral beauty products to new unlocked smartphones.

The best Prime Day deals we saw last year included all-time lows on brands like Apple, Vitamix, iRobot, Dyson, Crocs, and, of course, Amazon-owned products like the Fire TV , Kindle e-reader , and Echo smart speakers . We expect to see more of the same this year as well.

It'll be the first major deal holiday of the year, so it's an awesome chance to score summer discounts on big-ticket items and household staples. The retailer's 10th Prime Day event has officially been announced to arrive in July, but the actual days are still unknown. In the meantime, we're keeping tabs on all of the latest Prime Day news, and we'll keep you updated with our findings here.

Amazon Prime Day is officially coming this July, though the exact days have not yet been announced. In past years, it kicked off on the second Tuesday of the month. If Amazon follows the same trend, it will take place on July 9 and 10. We'll keep this story updated as more details are announced.

Amazon Prime Day is the retailer's annual mega sale and one of the major benefits of Prime membership. It's a two-day sales event, usually during the summer, that features products from every category, from fashion staples to hot new tech. 

Though it used to be a deal holiday of a much smaller scale, Prime Day has grown exponentially since the first one in 2015. Now, you can find almost everything on sale for all-time low prices, matching discounts we see during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. 

What should I buy during Amazon Prime Day?

Everything is fair game to buy during Amazon Prime Day. Whether you've been holding out on a pricey new TV or just need to stock up on toiletries, Prime Day is a good time to make your move. 

Last year, we saw incredible prices on tech, including 4K TVs , Fire TV streaming devices , Apple products, Kindle e-readers , PC gaming accessories, Echo smart speakers , and top headphones picks. Prime Day tech deals featured brands like Logitech, Bose, Jabra, Sony, Roku, Samsung, TCL, and more. 

If you're looking for style and beauty deals during Prime Day, last year, brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Tatcha, Laneige, Levi's, Carhartt, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Adidas, and Marc Jacobs all featured products at rare low prices. That means skincare, makeup, shoes, men's clothing, women's fashion, and accessories will all be available for less. 

Home and kitchen products saw no shortage of Prime Day deals either, with big names like Dyson, Shark, iRobot, Philips, KitchenAid, Nespresso, Casper, Leesa, and OXO down to all-time lows for the event. So, whether you need an air fryer , robot vacuum , mattress , or just some sturdy mixing bowls, Prime Day is a good time to buy. 

You don't need to be focused on fancy new gadgets or treatments to shop smart during Amazon Prime Day either. We also catch tons of affordable household essentials available for even less every year, like toilet paper, dish soap, doggy bags, and makeup wipes. These deals are sweet, since they save you money on stuff you needed to buy anyway. 

How long do Prime Day deals last?

How long a Prime Day deal lasts differs between items, but in general, the best discounts will start during the event and end before the 48-hour holiday is over. Some will last the whole two days while others will only last one, so it's always wise to act on a good sale when you see it. Lightning deals especially go fast, the most popular of which dwindle away in less than an hour.

I always recommend buying a product you've had your eye on as soon as it's highlighted as a Prime Day deal. Regardless of how long it's set to last, oftentimes the best sales run out of stock, resulting in shipping dates being pushed out, or the deal no longer being offered at all. Do you need to be a Prime member to shop Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is locked to Prime members only. It's one of the major benefits of subscribing to the service, in addition to other perks like free two-day shipping and Prime Video streaming. 

If you have yet to become a member, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to test it out. Once the official Prime Day dates have been announced, you can even time your free period to overlap with the sale, but it's not a guarantee since sometimes retailers will lock out free members from shopping the best deals.

Do other stores participate in Prime Day?

Although Prime Day is an Amazon-specific event, it's grown so large that other major retailers have started kicking off competing sales to overlap with it. No one has announced a competing Prime Day sale just yet, but if past years are any indication, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy will likely be holding their own events.

These are definitely worth checking out; they often match the best deals on popular items you can find from Prime Day.
