When The Grand Tour Met Game Of Thrones
Whenever Top Gear got a new Reasonably Priced Car, it was tradition to host a picnic at the track and invite a cadre of celebrities, most of whom did not show up, to get some times on the board. Such honorable guests have included Warwick Davis, Jimmy Carr, and most notably, Charles Dance (better known as Game of Thrones’ western despot Tywin Lannister).
Clarkson ended up grilling Dance the whole time about Game of Thrones, the former’s favorite show. But eventually, The Grand Tour got to one-up that somewhat: they ended up at one of the actual sets.
During the episode “Moroccan Roll,” in which the presenters compare three small, zippy sports cars, the trio ended up having a race around Ait-Ben-Haddou, better known as the Game of Thrones city of Yunkai, though he did spin out several times as a result of “thinking about Khaleesi.”
In light of the season finale of Game of Thrones, we’ve created some very special merch for fans of both shows: we’ve adapted the houses in GoT to our three presenters and put it on some cool shirts and phone cases for you! You can check them all out at our online store here!

Clarkson, Hammond and May filming on Game of Thrones set
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have seemingly embraced their inner nerds, as they were spotted filming their long-awaited new Amazon Prime series on the Game of Thrones set, located at Atlas Studios on the outskirts of Marrakech, Morocco. As if that wasn’t nerdy enough already, the same compound in the desert city of Ouarzazate was also where segments of the original Star Wars movie was filmed.
We can reveal that for this journey, Jeremy was driving a white Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, while Richard and James were in a red Mazda MX-5 and Zenos E10 roadsters – though we’re not sure at this stage who was in what. The Zenos E10 is an interesting choice, as it is a track-focused yet road legal sports car based on the Lotus Elise.
Onlookers have said that Jeremy looked to be in charge again, dishing out orders on set, while Richard and James seemed happy enough to hang back and play sidekicks once again.
The gang appeared to be happy and carefree as they filmed on set, which is a far cry from the controversy that has gripped their former show, Top Gear, back in London.

Winter is coming and so is the Game of Thrones studio tour! First look at the multi-million pound attraction with iconic sets and costumes
Share this with
The highly-anticipated Game of Thrones studio tour will be opening its doors in February 2022, and we have a first look at what fans can expect to see.
The multi-million themed attraction will feature the real-life sets, props, and costumes used in the hit drama, with an insight into how the Seven Kingdoms came to life.
Actor Ian McElhinney, who played Ser Barristan Selmy in the medieval fantasy series which ran from 2011 to 2019, visited the set’s replica and was amazed by the detail.
Speaking to Sky News , he said: ‘One of the great things about being an actor is walking into a studio space and saying right, this is now my world and putting on a costume and saying right, this is how my character dresses.
‘Suddenly you get a whole different sense of reality of the part that you’re playing and the world that you’re part of.’
‘Walking in here is like being back in the Game of Thrones studio and being kind of impressed by it,’ he added.
Devoted fans will be able to visit the grand tour on February 4, 2022, at Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge, Northern Ireland, which is perfect considering that’s where Game of Thrones was filmed.
Chief executive of Tourism Ireland, Niall Gibbons said: ‘We are really excited about the opening of Game of Thrones Studio Tour at Linen Mill Studios – which will give fans of the show everywhere an extra special reason to book a trip to Northern Ireland in 2022 and beyond.’
In 2019, Game of Thrones came to an end after eight years , in an episode that saw Daenerys Targaryen ( Emilia Clarke ) killed by her lover and nephew Jon Snow (Kit Harington).
The finale sparked a lot of uproar among diehard fans of the series, but Clarke admitted that she understood ‘why people were p***ed .’
However, she stressed: ‘You have to turn up and you have to… because why? Because you’re doing it for you and you’re doing it for her and you’re doing it for the show and you’re doing it for the storytelling.
‘So, I’m an actor. I get given a story and I need to tell that story.’
Game of Thrones is available to watch on Sky and NOW.

Clarkson will gatecrash an actual game of thrones set in an episode of the grand tour.
As if we needed more reasons to tune into Clarkson’s et al’s new show, it’s now been revealed that he will perform a driving sequence through Westeros, probably drifting through many areas within the Seven Kingdoms on the colossal Game Of Thrones set.
Clarkson himself is a well known GoT fan after fan-boying Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) on a past Top Gear episode, and therefore must have relished the opportunity to drive through the medieval settings.
This is going to be epic!
What, I can’t say this?
Wait for a BBC demand..
Imagine him driving a 911R while being chased by dragons breathing fire while the 911R spits fire!?! Amazing
Clarkson wouldn’t drive any 911 if he wasn’t made too. He would rather drive the supercharged F type or the P1
Fight fire with fire!
Gets sued by hbo.
I never watched GoT. Time to start now xD
I’ve never watched GOT either. No intention of starting now
You won’t regret it!
He should NOT get in a fracas with john snow…
We must prepare for autumn…
Clarkson is coming.
Gets sued by BBC for liking GoT because he liked it while presenting Top Gear, and he is liking it now.
BBC logic at work.
It’s an HBO series…

Jeremy Clarkson Will Drive Through The Game Of Thrones Set On The Grand Tour
If you ever wanted your two favorite worlds—the former Top Gear guys and Game of Thrones— to collide, it’s about to happen on The Grand Tour .

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May’s upcoming show will apparently also spend some time in Westeros, according to Digital Spy. From the story:
Best news of all is that one segment of the series will see Clarkson drive through the vast Game of Thrones set—so we’re hoping for some kind of Westeros cameo.
Do they mean Winterfell? Or the Iron Islands? Or maybe the Riverlands and the Vale of Arryn? The Red Keep? Castle Black?
I have questions that need answers!
We already know that Jeremy Clarkson is a Game of Thrones fan. In the first episode of the 20th season of the old Top Gear , during the celebrity barbecue, Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) appears as a guest and Clarkson calls him “The Hand of the King” and peppers him with questions about the show. Will he fanboy as hard as we would if we got to visit the Game of Thrones set?
Digital Spy also notes that The Grand Tour , set for release in the fall, will stream in glorious and picturesque 4K.
I can only weep, because the gods have bestowed a gift to us humans. As if I already couldn’t wait to see the show!

13 Game of Thrones-Themed Tours You Can Take Around the World
By rebecca pahle | apr 3, 2019.
If you lived in the world of Game of Thrones , chances are you'd be killed by either a dragon or a White Walker ... or maybe just by a plain old beheading. Luckily for all of you Thrones fans who are fond of being not-dead, plenty of travel companies offer guided tours that will let you feel like you’re inside the world of the HBO juggernaut, minus all the danger that the characters face.
Below are 13 great guided tours that you can take of Game of Thrones filming locations around the world. Note: You'll want to book before the final season premieres on April 14 to get ahead of the rush.
1. Brendan’s Road to Winterfell // Northern Ireland
Brendan Vacations offers a customizable tour through key Game of Thrones locations in Northern Ireland. The seven-day tour is on the pricier side—$4200 per person—but it’s worth it if you want to really geek out. In addition to sites of general historical interest, like museums and cathedrals, you’ll get to visit multiple Thrones filming locations, like the 18th-century mansion Castle Ward, the grounds of which were used extensively for Winterfell location shooting. The Stark kids frolicked there (relatively) happy and free of care early in season 1 ; later, Robb Stark’s army camped there. The tour will also take you to Ballintoy Harbor, which served as the filming location for several of the Iron Island scenes. It was at Ballintoy that Theon Greyjoy returned to the home he’d been taken from as a hostage by the Starks and re-met his sister Yara. (It was all downhill from there for poor Theon, but we hope your vacation will end on a brighter note.)
Book tickets on Brendan Vacations from $4200.
2. Game of Thrones Walking Tour of Dubrovnik // Croatia
Put on your comfy shoes for this three-hour walking tour of Dubrovnik, Croatia, the filming location for many of Game of Thrones ’s King’s Landing scenes. You can climb the city walls near Lovrijenac Fortress and look out at the sea—if the view looks familiar, that’s because it served as the location for Westeros’s Blackwater Bay, the site of season 2's unforgettable Battle of the Blackwater.
An upgrade to the tour will also get you a visit to the Trsteno Arboretum, which is often used as the filming location for King’s Landing's palace gardens. (Visit and let the spirit of Olenna Tyrell flow through you.)
Book tickets on Viator from $69.
3. Belfast Winterfell Trek // Northern Ireland
On this daylong tour of Castle Ward (a.k.a. Winterfell) in Northern Ireland, you can see where the late King in the North was born, was crowned, and was murdered. A further stop at Tollymore Forest Park in Newcastle lets you see where the Starks first found their direwolf pups and where the Night’s Watch first found the White Walkers. Guides who worked as extras on Game of Thrones are on hand to break down the visual effects that transformed the real-life environs of Northern Ireland into Westeros. Plus, the tour is designed to be immersive, so Stark banners, cloaks, and swords are available for guests to use throughout the day.
Book tickets on TripAdvisor from $66.
4. Game of Thrones Filming Locations Tour From Reykjavik // Iceland
Watch out for White Walkers on this eight-hour-long tour of Game of Thrones landmarks around Reykjavik , Iceland. Sites include Thingvellir National Park, which stands in for some of the show’s North-of-the-Wall content. (Don’t worry—there are no zombie bears.) You'll get to see Almannagjá Gorge in Thingvellir, which served as the shooting location for the Eyrie’s Bloody Gate—the site of Arya Stark’s season 4 giggle fit upon finding out yet another one of her relatives had died. Another stop on the itinerary is Thjorsárdalur Valley, site of the Wildling massacre of Olly’s village in season 4. (Olly, you’ll remember, gets his revenge .)
Book tickets on Viator from $110.
5. Seville and Osuna Guided Game of Thrones Tour // Spain
Among avid fans, Game of Thrones ’s Dorne plotline was … well, let’s just say, not the most popular. But that doesn’t make Seville, Spain, where many of the Dorne scenes were shot, any less beautiful. The key site of this tour is the Alcázar of Seville, the palace that served as the shooting location for Prince Doran Martell’s castle and its surrounding gardens. On the bloodier side of things, this tour also includes an optional trip by train to the Spanish town of Osuna, where the Meereen fighting pit scenes were filmed.
6. The Narrow Sea Boat Voyage // Northern Ireland
Have a little Greyjoy blood in you? Then you may lean towards Winterfell Tours’ Narrow Sea Boat Voyage. Lasting approximately 90 minutes, the private boat tour takes you past the shores of Northern Ireland’s Strangford Lough. You'll sail past Audley's Castle—which served as one of The Twins—located along the shore on the grounds of Castle Ward. You’ll also get a view of the filming locations for House Bolton’s Dreadfort Castle, Hoster Tully’s Viking-inspired funeral pyre, and more.
Book tickets with Winterfell Tours from $522 for a private tour of up to 10 people.
7. Game of Thrones Tour in Split // Croatia
If you need more Meereen content, take a 3.5-hour guided tour of Split, Croatia, where the mountain fortress of Klis was a filming location for the city conquered by Daenerys. After the fortress, the next stop on the walking tour is Diocletian’s Palace, built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century, which has also been used as a Meereen shooting location. It’s also the site of Daenerys’s throne room as well as where she keeps her dragons locked up so they can't eat anybody they shouldn’t.
Book tickets on Viator from $78.
8. Game of Thrones Filming Locations Tour // Northern Ireland
Brienne of Tarth fans, step up. The Game of Thrones Filming Locations Tour from Irish Tour Tickets will take you to Larrybane Quarry, where viewers were first introduced to the fan-favorite knight in season 2. Other stops on this daylong trip include the Cushenden Caves, where Melisandre gave birth to the shadow baby that killed Renly; Dunlunce Castle, used as House Greyjoy; and the picturesque Dark Hedges , which stand in for the Kingsroad. Another stop is Carnlough Harbor, which stood in for Braavos in season 6—it’s where Arya Stark just narrowly avoided getting stabbed to death by the Waif.
Book tickets on Expedia from $51.
9. Game of Thrones Filming Locations Tour // Malta
Along with Dubrovnik, Croatia, the island of Malta was a filming location for many of the King’s Landing scenes in Game of Thrones . Stops on this tour include the city of Mdina, site of Ned and Catelyn’s final farewell, along with the season 1 fight between Jaime Lannister and Ned Stark that ended in the latter’s capture. You’ll see Malta’s Mtahleb Cliffs, which stood in for the Shadow Cliffs, the location of Khal Drogo’s funeral pyre and the birth of Daenerys's dragons . And you’ll see St. Dominic’s Convent in Rabat, Malta, which served as one of the locations for the Red Keep, the castle that contains the Iron Throne.
Book tickets on Viator from $67.
10. Archery Movie Set Experience // Northern Ireland
Ah, season 1, episode 1 … when the Stark children were practicing their archery instead of living under the constant threat of murder. (OK, there was still a little threat of murder.) At Castle Ward, Winterfell Tours offers the Archery Set Movie Experience , where Game of Thrones fans can practice their archery in the "Winterfell" courtyard. Both visitors and instructors—some of whom trained members of the cast—get costumes to wear.
A bundle deal gets you the Winterfell Cycle Tour (where you’ll see, among other places, the tower from which Jaime Lannister pushed Bran) and a meet and greet with the Northern Inuit dogs who played direwolves Summer and Grey Wind.
Book tickets with Winterfell Tours from $39.
11. Game of Thrones Tour in Girona // Spain
Girona, Spain, is yet another city that’s served as an ersatz King’s Landing over Game of Thrones ’s run. Explore Catalunya’s tour takes you through the medieval town, home to the monastery Sant Pere de Galligants, the real-life stand-in for Oldtown’s Citadel. The tour also features the Plaza del Jurats, site of a memorable season 6 scene where Arya watched a theatrical version of her family’s troubles. Many of season 6's Braavos market and training scenes (when Arya was learning to be a master assassin) were filmed here, as were scenes surrounding King’s Landing’s Sept of Baelor—also known as the Girona Cathedral.
Book tickets on Viator from $113.
12. GoT to Escape // Northern Ireland
Say you’re in Northern Ireland and you’ve already seen all the Game of Thrones filming locations. Or maybe you’re just looking for something a little different. GoT to Escape in Belfast boasts three Game of Thrones -inspired escape rooms and one mystery room. Your mission? Save King’s Landing. Each room takes an hour to complete and is designed for between two and six players. (The website notes that you don’t actually need any special knowledge of Game of Thrones to participate, so feel free to drag your non-fan friends and family members along.)
Book tickets on GoT to Escape from $53.
13. Westeros and Beyond // Iceland, Ireland, Spain, and Croatia
Or maybe you just want to do everything . STA Travel offers multi-stop trips geared toward younger travelers and students (though they sell flights to people of all ages, their website notes that “some of our airfare is available just to full-time students, [t]eachers at accredited schools, and youth travelers under the age of 26”). If the price is right, you can start in New York City and travel across the world to several of the key cities where Game of Thrones is filmed—Reykjavik, Dublin, Barcelona, and Dubrovnik. Once there, STA provides day tours like the ones mentioned above.

Jeremy Clarkson will drive through the Game of Thrones set in The Grand Tour (and a few other nuggets)
Producer Andy Wilman also describes the show's alleged cost as "bollocks".
Firstly, the Amazon Prime show starring Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond will launch with a 70-minute episode, while their deal is currently for 12 shows a year for three years, with an option to extend it further.
Best news of all is that one segment of the series will see Clarkson drive through the vast Game of Thrones set - so we're hoping for some kind of Westeros cameo.
Plus, 90% of the series has been shot, and all of it will be in shiny 4K quality.
Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Wilman also admitted that he'd prefer for the show to go out weekly on Amazon as it "doesn't have a boxset/binge appeal", and that there's still hope for it to get a secondary run on a traditional TV channel.
Wilman mentioned as well that working on The Grand Tour has been "fantastic but really demanding", and hit out at recent reports of the show costing around $4.5m per episode as "bollocks".
Later speaking in depth about leaving the BBC, he said: "It became a battle. Everything became personal. Some management didn't have the will to mend it.
"It was sad, we were to blame too, we were entrenched. I threw my toys out of the pram and I was vicious in my reaction to everything."
They had to be careful about making an entirely different show, however, as apparently: "We had meetings about can James May still say 'cock' or will the BBC sue? "
But what did he make of the new Top Gear ? "I didn't watch it. There was a lot of pain. Tough gig. I would not wish them one second of ill ."
The Grand Tour will finally arrive on Amazon Prime this autumn, but no exact dates have been revealed yet.

'The Grand Tour' producer just revealed 11 key details about Jeremy Clarkson’s new Amazon car show
Jeremy Clarkson's executive producer Andy Wilman has revealed some of the secrets of their new Amazon Prime Instant Video show "The Grand Tour."
In a frank interview at the Edinburgh International Television Festival on Wednesday, Wilman discussed the progress the team has made in producing Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May's follow-up to "Top Gear."
So what can you expect? Well, Wilman revealed a number of nuggets, including a "Game of Thrones" stunt, legal challenges during filming and his reflections on "Top Gear."
Here are 11 things we learned from "The Grand Tour" showrunner.
1. Most of the show is in the can. Wilman said 90% of "The Grand Tour's" set piece films have been recorded and one episode, which will be the second of the series, is all-but complete. His focus is now turning to recording the studio-style elements in "The Grand Tour" tent, which is travelling the world. The tent has already travelled to South Africa , while future destinations will include California and Britain.
2. Prepare for a "Game of Thrones" stunt. Clarkson will drive though the "Game of Thrones" set for a stunt. Wilman also provided a sneak peak of some of the footage, including Hammond being airlifted in his car while he sleeps and the presenting trio racing a Maseratis, a Rolls Royce, and a Porsche.
3. Filming has been a legal minefield. There will be no Stig, no section titled "the news," and no regular test track elements on "The Grand Tour" in case it infringes the BBC's "Top Gear" copyright. This legal caution has also extended to other elements on the show, with Wilman joking that he has asked Amazon's lawyers if James May can still say the word "cock."
4. There is still no decision on a launch date. The producer does not know when in autumn Amazon will launch the show, but he has been given strict targets for delivering completed episodes. "If we don't hit our targets, they [Amazon] will send a hit man … next day delivery," he joked.
Related stories
5. Each episode could be a different length. The series will comprise of 12 episodes, each of which will be around an hour in length. Wilman said they can afford to be a bit looser with episode lengths, given the show is not being broadcast on traditional television.
6. "The Grand Tour" could be released as a weekly show. Wilman said he wants "The Grand Tour" to be made available on Amazon on a weekly basis, rather than released in one box-set for people to binge view. "There's no threat, no plot," Wilman said. "It's not like watching 'Breaking Bad' where you think 'shit, what will happen next?'"
7. It might yet find a home on TV.
The show could be repeated on a traditional broadcaster, Wilman said, explaining that "Top Gear" has a good "shelf life."
He joked that show could be repeated on Dave in the future — the UKTV channel that is famous for wall-to-wall repeats of "Top Gear."
8. The show is filmed in ultra-HD. "The Grand Tour" producer confirmed that every episode will be be filmed in 4K, otherwise known as ultra-high definition. Wilman explained that this has made lead times longer because of the post-production process involved in managing the footage.
9. Amazon has an option to extend "The Grand Tour" after three years. Wilman reiterated that W Chump & Sons — the production company he co-owns with Clarkson, Hammond, and May — has a three-year deal with Amazon for "The Grand Tour," but revealed that the US company has an option to extend this agreement. Reports that he has a £4 million($5.3 million) budget for each episode are "bollocks," he added.
10. Wilman believes Clarkson should not have been fired by the BBC. The producer accepted that the senior "Top Gear" team had a "broken" relationship with the BBC, but argued that Clarkson should have been fined, not sacked, for punching producer Oisin Tymon last year.
"It was sad, but my point is, we were to blame too. I was entrenched, I was throwing my toys out of the pram, I was vicious in my reaction to everything and it became thumping heads, which was sad," he said.
11. "The Grand Tour" producer has not watched new "Top Gear." Wilman revealed that he did not watch any of the new "Top Gear" series with Chris Evans because there was "a lot of pain for me." He hopes, however, that the BBC "cracks" the show so it can be a success.
Watch: Prime Day deals aren't the only way Amazon gets you to spend more. Here are 13 of the company's sneaky tricks.

What better way to gear up for Season 8 than visiting some or all of the countries and locations where Game of Thrones has been filmed?
*Spoilers Ahead!
Filming locations for Game of Thrones have ranged from Northern Ireland to Morocco , Iceland to Malta , Croatia to Spain . The one thing they all have in common is that they’ve all been spectacularly beautiful while at the same time representing a world of timeless fantasy mixed with gritty Medieval realism -- no easy feat.
Here’s a look at where to go on your Game of Thrones grand tour:
1. Northern Ireland
Much of Westeros, the main setting for the series, is filmed in Northern Ireland , in the regions around Belfast and along the northern coast in County Antrim. The words that come to mind are “rugged,” “forested,” and “spectacular.”
Castle Ward in Northern Ireland’s County Down is the setting for Winterfell, home of the Starks, where then-King Robert Baratheon came to visit in Season 1. The 820-acre estate includes the house, a sunken garden, and woodland.
Tollymore Forest Park , also in County Down, was the haunting scene of a spooky forest in Season 1, where Ned Stark and his sons find the direwolf pups and a member of the Night’s Watch comes across some dismembered bodies of Wildlings.
Audley’s Field and Castle near Strangford Lough in County Down is the setting for Robb Stark’s Camp in Season 2, where he met Talisa. Jaime Lannister is imprisoned at Audley’s as well.
The Dark Hedges in Antrim form the beautiful beech-tree-lined King’s Road where Ayra Stark escaped from King’s Landing in Season 2.
The harbor in the town of Ballintoy along the winding North Antrim coast between the Giant’s Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge -- two of the most popular tourist sights on Ireland’s northernmost coast -- has been the setting for the Iron Islands off mainland Westeros.
Downhill Beach , also on the Causeway Coast, is Dragonstone in the series, where the creepy priestess Melisandre chants “For the night is dark and full of terrors” in Season 2, making us all shudder.

2. Croatia
Since Season 2, the walled old city of Dubrovnik , Croatia , on the coast of the Adriatic Sea , has been the setting for King’s Landing, capital of the Seven Kingdoms -- where the ruthless Lannister family rule, plot, scheme, fight with and even murder each other. You know, just your average night at the dinner table.
Dubrovnik’s Trsteno Arboretum serves as the peaceful seaside garden where various King’s Landing plots are hatched in private amid flowers and greenery.
Outside Dubrovnik’s walls , the bay where cruise ships may be seen on non-shooting days was the scene of the bloody Battle of Blackwater, where King Stannis unsuccessfully invaded King’s Landing in Season 2, with Tyrion Lannister saving the day and his twerpy nephew Joffrey taking the credit.
Split, Croatia , up the coast from Dubrovnik, incorporates ruins of Diocletian’s Palace into the walls of its old city. Split was used in Season 4 as one of the locations for the story of Daenyres Targaryen, dragon-bearing Khaleesi (queen) of Essos and another rival for the Iron Throne.

The history-seeped island nation of Malta in the Mediterranean stood in for King’s Landing in Season 1 of the series, before it moved to Dubrovnik. The gate to the town of Mdina served as the gate to King’s Landing and Fort Ricasoli formed the exterior of the king’s home.
The Azure Window , a natural rock formation extending into the sea on the small Maltese island of Gozo, was the scene of Season 1’s dramatic Dothraki Wedding between Daenerys and Khal Drogo, king of the Dothrakis, who soon perished.
Unfortunately this may have been a premonition for the tragic collapse of the Azure Window into the ocean in late 2016.

4. Morocco
The rugged, harsh desert landscapes of Morocco serve as the realm where Daenery’s spends much of her time during Game of Thrones. The sepia toned sand and rock amid dusty wind and rough conditions reflect a distinct character - easy to brush off, but slowly building into a steadfast threat against the rest of Westeros.
Three exotic-looking towns in Morocco -- Essaouira on the coast, Ait Benhaddou, and nearby Ouarzazate in the Sahara -- served as locations for the two slave-trading cities, Astapor and Yunkai, which were outsmarted and outfought by Daenerys and her dragons in Season 3.

5. Iceland
Iceland is a very appropriate setting for the icy lands Beyond the Wall where Jon Snow bravely ventures in Season 3 and beyond. Locations have included rock-lined Lake Myvatn , the Gullfoss waterfall , Svinafellsjokull glacier and the Geysir hot spring .
The Dimmuborgir Lava Field was used as a Wildling Camp. And if that wasn’t enough, in real life it is connected to much folklore including being the Gate to Hell, and the home of trolls and other creatures. Who needs Game of Thrones when you have Iceland’s rich imagination?
Grjótagjá lava cave is where Jon and Ygritte...you know. And you can visit! TIP: go in the winter when the water isn’t too hot to take a dip.
And debuting in Season 7 is Kirkjufell , an ubiqutitous symbol of Iceland, representing the mountain the Hound saw in the flames, resembling an arrowhead.
The surrounding natural landscape of Iceland must be sick of hearing every iteration of "You know nothing, Jon Snow" from enthusiastic fans attempting their best Ygritte impression, a fan favorite who perished in Season 4.
The vast lands North of the Wall can be found in Vatnajökull , which contains Europe’s largest glacier, in Southeast Iceland.

Spain makes its first appearance as a location setting in the 5th season of Game of Thrones, standing in for the city of Dorne.
Shooting has taken place at Seville’s Moorish-style Alcazar, a one-time fort turned royal palace, which serves as the Water Gardens of Sunspear in Dorne. The Game of Thrones crew had exclusive use of the Alcazar gardens during shooting, a major concession by Spanish officials since the site already drew many daily tourists.
As season 5 progressed, the number of visitors increased exponentially, a similar pattern to what has happened in Northern Ireland, Croatia, and Iceland.
A much talked about new location for Season 6 was Girona , Spain. This relatively sleepy town had had minimal tourist activity before Game of Thrones. As the setting for Arya’s intense and character building Season 6 storyline, as she is trained to serve the Many Faced God and become No One, Girona has seen a major upswing in visitors.
The use of Spain for filming locations increased in Season 7. Dragonstone, where Daenerys claims her ancestral seat while inching closer to Kings Landing, is an island located in fictional Blackwater Bay. The beaches with stark rock rising out seem like they belong along the rugged coasts of the United Kingdom , but actually were filmed in Basque country, on Spain's northern coast. You can visit Itzurun beach to get your own taste of Dragonstone, though a bit of effort is required.
There are a lot of tense moments in Game of Thrones. But one that certainly stands out from Season 7 is the Dragon Pit meeting between Daenerys and Cersei, when the proof of White Walkers becomes irrefutable to those who grew up hearing about them merely as a scary bedtime story. This was filmed near Seville in Italica Ruins, the site of an ancient Roman city.
Lastly, within a short drive from Cordoba you'll encounter Castillo de Almodóvar del Río, otherwise known as Highgarden - the home of House Tyrell. Here, Olenna Tyrell delivered perhaps the most epic line of the entire Game of Thrones series (a bold statement we know- prove us wrong!):
“Tell Cersei, I want her to know it was me”.

Among its many other awards and laurels, “ Game of Thrones ” has long held the questionable distinction of being the most illegally downloaded TV show. No more. HBO’s high-fantasy drama has now been surpassed on that front by “ The Grand Tour ,” whose rather expensive pilot episode has been pirated nearly 8 million times since premiering on November 18.

The show, a sort of spiritual successor to the highly successful “Top Gear” starring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, streams on Amazon . Four episodes have been released to date, and though each successive one is said to have been illegally downloaded less than the one before it — 6.4 million downloads for Episode 2, 4.6 million for Episode 3 — the figures are surely much higher than Amazon would like.

The show’s total budget for its first 36 episodes is estimated at £160 million, which comes out to a little more than $200 million.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Is Reportedly No Longer The Most Torrented Show In The World
Game of Thrones was, by far, the most torrented show on the internet last year , with a staggering 14.4 million illegal downloads for the season five finale alone. (In second place: The Walking Dead with 6.9 million.) The mega-hit has held this distinction since season two, when it replaced Dexter in the number-one spot, leading to HBO sending out notices to anyone who took a peak at the leaked episodes. But according to piracy analysts Muso, there might be a new most illegally downloaded television show… in history.
The Independent reports that Amazon Video’s The Grand Tour — presenter Jeremy Clarkson’s first series since being fired from Top Gear for an “unprovoked physical and verbal attack” on a member of the car show’s production team — was downloaded 7.9 million times for the first episode, “the second 6.4 million times, and the third 4.6 million times; with British viewers making up the largest percentage (13.7%) of the illegal downloads.”
Muso’s CCO, Chris Elkins, called The Grand Tour “the most illegally downloaded [program] ever,” saying it “is off the scale in terms of volume. It has overtaken every big show, including Game of Thrones , for the totals across different platforms. We monitor thousands of campaigns and this one really stands out.” That’s bad news for Amazon, which spent $201 million on the show’s budget, including $13 million for Clarkson — the streaming service may have lost over $4 million from torrenting on the pilot alone.
You’d think all that illegal downloading would kill The Grand Tour ‘s ratings, but just like Game of Thrones , which continually reaches new viewership heights, the first episode is “the biggest show premiere ever on Amazon Prime Video, breaking records around the world,” according to an Amazon spokesperson.
People love dragons and cars, so by that logic, a Wacky Races -type series about driving dragons would shatter all kinds of records. Get on it, Netflix.

Game of Thrones studio tour is now open, 3 years after the finale
You can check out the sets for Winterfell, King's Landing, Dragonstone and The Wall at the studio tour in Northern Ireland.
- I've been covering technology and mobile for 12 years, first as a telecommunications reporter and assistant editor at ZDNet in Australia, then as CNET's West Coast head of breaking news, and now in the Thought Leadership team.
The tour will feature Daenerys Targaryen's Dragonstone throne.
Almost three years after the last season of Game of Thrones shocked audiences around the world, a studio tour in Northern Ireland has been launched. The Game of Thrones Studio Tour grand opening on Thursday featured appearances by Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark) and Kristian Nairn (Hodor).
The tour features sets including House Stark's Great Hall at Winterfell, Daenerys Targaryen's Dragonstone throne, King's Landing and The Wall, as well as props, weaponry, costumes, visual effects and "immersive interactives."
It's located at one of the show's filming locations in Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge, Northern Ireland.
"After many years of planning, design and construction, we are thrilled to finally open our doors to guests and allow them to get closer to the Seven Kingdoms than ever before at the world's first and only Game of Thrones Studio Tour," Andrew Webb and David Browne, executive directors at Linen Mill Studios, said in a statement.

Where to find Game of Thrones tours and attractions after the finale

The thought of the Game of Thrones finale is bringing bittersweet feelings to many fans, not least because it means an end to a brilliant piece of weekly escapism. While HBO is planning plenty of spin-offs to replace it, the legacy is being kept alive by fans and travellers around the world. We've rounded up some Game of Thrones tours and attractions so you don't need to say goodbye to Westeros just yet.
Northern Ireland
The spiritual home of the TV show, most of the indoor scenes were filmed here. The stunning landscape provided the locations for Winterfell, Castle Black, Pyke Island and the Kingsroad, to name just a few. It is fitting that TEC Belfast is hosting the touring Game of Thrones exhibition all the way through to September.
Visitors can get up close and personal with the costumes, numerous props, and step completely into the atmospheric sets, including Winterfell Crypt and the Dragon Skull Pit; both of these key GoT scenes will be exclusive to the Belfast run of the exhibition. A few months later the tour packs up and moves on to its next (undisclosed) location. However the show's connection with Northern Ireland will remain in the form of a permanent Game of Thrones Studio Tour located at Linen Mill Studios that opens in early 2020.
Split is full of recognisable locations but a new Game of Thrones museum has just opened with more than 100 exhibits showcasing the magic of the show. There are plenty of genuine set items, sumptuous costumes, and excellent photo opportunities, including some with statues of the characters.
Walk the streets of Dubrovnik and you’ll be bombarded with offers of Game of Thrones themed tours, including people who worked on the show that are happy to share anecdotes from their time on set. If you prefer to go it alone, our guide to Croatia’s Game of Thrones locations will help you on your way.
For those sick of the political machinations of the Seven Kingdoms, Iceland is the home of the Free Folk, and the icy landscape is the perfect backdrop to any fantasy epic. This full-day Game of Thrones tour will bring you to some of the spectacular waterfalls featured in the series, a reconstruction of a Viking farm that was the setting for an attack by the Wildlings, and even to meet some of the horses used in the filming. For a more immersive experience, Guide to Iceland also run six- and eight-day full vacation packages.
Long before Game of Thrones , the Atlas Film Studios were hosting Hollywood epics and the remnants of their sets have been left in the world’s largest filming studio, gathering dust in the expanse of the desert. As well as Astapor’s Square where Daenerys thrillingly freed the Unsullied, you’ll spot sets from Gladiator , Jewel of the Nile and The Mummy .
Spain took an increasingly starring role in later seasons, providing the homelands for the Martells and Tyrells, as well as the windswept Dragonstone. Girona and Seville also lent their picturesque surroundings to King’s Landing, Braavos and the Water Gardens of Dorne. Viator operates tours in these locations, including a day trip from Barcelona for fans.
With up to five Game of Thrones-related prequels in the works, it’s unlikely Westerosi mania will cease anytime soon. In the unlikely event that happens, the stunning locations will be there forever to enjoy for their own merits or through the lens of your favourite TV show. Our guide to six of the most beautiful Game of Thrones locations will get you started.

Game of Thrones studio opens door to Westeros, in Northern Ireland
- Published 4 February 2022
Game of Thrones fans are being invited to step into the world of Westeros at a £40m attraction housing sets, costumes and props from the epic TV drama.
The Game of Thrones Studio Tour has opened at Linen Mill, one of the show's filming locations in Northern Ireland.
The Great Hall of Winterfell and Castle Black sets have remained in place there since filming ended in 2018.
Other sets have been reconstructed and iconic props like the Iron Throne added for the 110,000-sq-ft attraction.
Game of Thrones tourism was booming in Northern Ireland before the pandemic, with one in six leisure visitors saying the show influenced their decision to travel there in 2018.
That translated to around 350,000 people, who spent £50m in the local economy, according to Tourism NI.
"We expect to increase that," the tour's general manager Brad Kelly told BBC News. "This is a global TV phenomenon and we want to bring a global audience to Northern Ireland to get close to Game of Thrones."
What is the studio tour like?
By BBC News correspondent John Maguire
After viewing a thunderous trailer on a huge video screen, the wall splits open and you walk into winter and into Westeros.
You can also follow in the footsteps of the actors who brought the Game of Thrones characters to life.
The Banbridge studios are home to the Winterfell Great Hall - on the set, surrounded by the actual costumes with their intricate detailing, you stand where Kit Harrington, Peter Dinklage and Sean Bean have stood before you.
Wherever you look, there are half-built dragons and monsters, weapons, costumes and props that you'll have seen on screen and wondered how they were created.
Winter is here.
The venue on the outskirts of Banbridge in Co Down has been described by Stormont Economy Minister Gordon Lyons as "game-changing" for the region.
Fans can also see sets like Dragonstone and the destroyed throne room; original props including Jon Snow's famous Longclaw sword and the wedding dress worn by Sansa; as well as seeing how prosthetics and visual effects were created.
"These are the actual sets that we walked on. These are the actual costumes we wore, the swords we swung," actor Ian Beattie, who played Meryn Trant, told Reuters.
"And unlike the show, where you don't always see it, you will get to see the incredible detail that went into every aspect of the making of this show."

Mr Kelly said about a third of the programme's Northern Ireland-based filming took place at Linen Mill.
"There are a few sets, like Winterfell Hall, that were specifically here and haven't moved," he said.
"But in this huge collaboration between Linen Mill Studios, HBO and Warner Media, the challenge has been, what do we put in out of the vast array of props, sets and costumes that they have in store? That's been a huge creative challenge."
The fantasy show ran for eight series on HBO in the US and Sky in the UK, and was one of the most successful series in television history. The final episode in 2019 received a mixed reaction from fans and critics.
Production is now under way on a prequel series, called House of the Dragon.

The Grand Tour Will Reportedly Be Rebooted, Who Do You Think Should Host?
With Clarkson, Hammond, and May bidding adieu to the show, The Grand Tour is getting ready for a reboot, complete with fresh faces and a revamped format
by Michael Gauthier
- Studio Lambert has reportedly won a contract to create an updated version of The Grand Tour.
- Little is known about the retooled show, but it’s expected to feature new presenters as well as a revised format.
With Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May leaving The Grand Tour , many thought the show was dead. However, a new report suggests that might not be the case.
According to Broadcast , Studio Lambert has been awarded a contract to “develop a fresh version” of the show. Details are limited, but the publication said the studio beat out rival pitches from Shine TV and Orchard Studios.
More: Jeremy Clarkson Says He’s Too “Unfit, Fat And Old” To Keep The Grand Tour Going
The show reportedly hasn’t been formally greenlighted at this point, but Studio Lambert is said to be working on an updated format. The reboot is also expected to have new presenters, although there’s no word on how many or who might get the role.
The latter is obviously the biggest question as the bond between Clarkson, Hammond, and May was almost as interesting as whatever they were doing on screen. It’ll certainly be hard to replicate that as Top Gear found out following their departure.
The Sun quoted an unnamed industry insider as saying, “The Grand Tour is one of Prime Video’s most watched shows and Jeremy, James and Richard have a devoted following, but the guys have made no bones about the fact they’re all advancing in years and they have lots of other projects to pursue.” They added the trio wanted to go out on a high note.
While there are more questions than answers at this point, the show isn’t exactly a stranger to reboots. While it initially had a Top Gear -like feel and roughly a dozen episodes per season, The Grand Tour was eventually retooled to focus on a handful of road trips.
It remains unclear if the latest evolution of the show will stick to this format or try to find its own path. However, with Top Gear taking a “rest,” there might be an opportunity to return to that style format.
With all that being said, what would you like to see out of a Grand Tour reboot and who do you think should host?

I visited the 'Game of Thrones' studio 5 years after the series finale. The $37 tour reminded me why I love the show.
Posted: April 12, 2024 | Last updated: April 12, 2024
- I recently visited the Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Northern Ireland for $37.
- It offers an exclusive look at the HBO series , which spent millions of dollars on each episode.
- Even five years after the series finale, the studio is still a worthwhile experience for fans.
It's been five years since the series finale of HBO's "Game of Thrones," but I'm as big a fan as ever.
When a work trip took me to Northern Ireland , I knew I had to detour to the Game of Thrones Studio Tour. By season eight, the HBO drama was spending $15 million per episode , and like any true fan, I wanted a behind-the-scenes look at where some of that money went — and what made the show so visually incredible.
The tour, located in one of the show's original filming locations , Linen Mill Studios, opened in 2022, and standard tickets cost £29.50, or about $37.
I wanted to see just how relevant the studio is today — especially in the lead-up to the new season of the "House of the Dragon" prequel series in June — and if the widespread passion of the fandom is still alive.
It felt like the studio was hidden in plain sight.
There's no onsite parking at the studio, so getting there felt like being escorted to some secret location. Luckily, the instructions were clear: Meet at The Boulevard, a large shopping district in Banbridge, Northern Ireland.
From there, a complimentary shuttle took me down a long, formal-looking driveway. It's easy to see how the studio remained low-key during its filming heyday — it's almost as if it's hidden in plain sight.
My excitement overflowed as I stepped off the bus to blasting theme music and a massive Game of Thrones Studio Tour sign. About 10 other visitors immediately began posing for photographs.
After the 10-minute shuttle ride, it took me a good five minutes to reach security and start the experience, but the atmosphere was already infectious. Even the staff seemed genuinely excited to greet me.
The impressive theming immediately drew me in.
After passing a dragon skull and armored "guard," the tour started with a green-screen photo while we waited for some dramatic doors to swing open.
A tour guide quickly explained the studio rules — mostly, no touching the exhibits (which were used during filming) and absolutely no photos of the pre-tour movie.
I won't spoil too much, but the short film gave me goosebumps. At the end, the screen parted, and we entered the studio from "beyond the wall."
The studio clearly takes immersion seriously.
On the other side of the screen, we were blasted by fog machines before standing toe-to-toe with the Wildlings. Everything was incredibly immersive.
This was one of my favorite rooms. It had elaborate costumes from the show , including coats laden with bones and oysters. I learned that some weighed up to 15 pounds.
I also caught a glimpse of Wun Wun — or, at least, the costume that 7-foot-1 Ian Whyte wore during filming. It supposedly took the actor three to five hours a day to transform into the giant.
It was fun to walk through the different memorable sets.
The studio is made up of a trail of set rooms, including Mess Hall in Castle Black, the Crypts of Winterfell, King's Landing, and the Great Hall of Winterfell.
Costumed mannequins stood in each room to mimic the real scenes from the show.
I learned a lot about the making of the show throughout the tour.
In addition to walking through the sets, I got an insight into the show's creation process.
The 30-foot dragon skull of Balerion the Black Dread took six weeks to make before being shipped to Spain for filming. While standing next to the masterpiece, I could hardly believe that something of its scale could be transported across Europe .
Equally staggering, we learned that the crew went through 52,000 bags of fake snow and 163 tons of propane (for pyrotechnic effects) throughout the series.
Hearing about these intense behind-the-scenes efforts brought the series' magic back to life and made the visit worthwhile for me.
Behind-the-scenes exhibits and interactive experiences made the experience even better.
Other rooms were dedicated to the show's costume design , music creation, and set design. There was even a sword display room that housed famous props like Arya's Needle.
I'd nearly forgotten about the significance of the show's many props before embarking on the tour. But I almost squealed at Jaime Lannister's golden hand.
There were activities throughout the tour, too, including adding your face to the Hall of Faces and creating your own sigil.
I was entranced up until the very end of the experience.
The tour finished at the Iron Throne, a dragon flitting behind the rubble on a digital back wall.
It was a fitting endpoint seeing as it was the location where Jon killed Daenerys, controversially culling her brewing tyranny and ending the series.
I don't think the "Game of Thrones" buzz is going to die down anytime soon.
The studio wasn't packed, but Northern Ireland tends to be a little quieter in February and busier during the Easter holiday and summer. Honestly, I was grateful I missed the heavier crowds.
Overall, the "Game of Thrones" fandom seems to be building momentum rather than slowing down — especially with the second season of "House of the Dragon" looming.
I saw plenty of visitors bringing their children, too, so love for the series seems to be getting passed down to the next generation.
Initially, £29.50 seemed steep to me. But comparably, it's cheap for a studio tour — the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London charges a base price of £53.50.
Plus, I thought it offered great value. It packed so much in and the staff's passion is evident, which makes all the difference for visitors.

The “ Game of Thrones ” prequel series “ A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight ” has found its leads.
The HBO series is based around the characters Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, featured in the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” books written by George R.R. Martin. Peter Claffey has been cast as Dunk, while Dexter Sol Ansell has been cast as Egg.
Popular on Variety
Claffey is a former Connacht Rugby player and actor whose past credits include the Apple TV+ series “Bad Sisters” from Sharon Horgan and the BBC Three horror comedy series “Wrecked.” Ansell made his acting debut at four years old in the ITV series “Emmerdale.” He has since starred in shows like “The Midwich Cuckoos” and “Hullraisers” and appeared in the prequel film “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.”
Martin has published three novellas in the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series to date: “The Hedge Knight” in 1998, “The Sworn Sword” in 2003 and “The Mystery Knight” in 2010. The three novellas were then collected and published together as “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in 2015.
Elsewhere in Westeros, Variety also exclusively reported that HBO is developing a series set during Aegon’s Conquest.

How To Watch the Game of Thrones Franchise in Order
Rachel Ulatowski
Official JustWatch writer
After an almost two-year hiatus, the Game of Thrones franchise is returning to the screen with House of the Dragon season 2, meaning now is a great time to dive into or revisit the fantasy series. This guide will show you how (and where) to watch the Game of the Thrones franchise in order. This includes which TV show to watch first if you're watching in release or chronological order, and where you can find them on streaming services.
Game of Thrones first started as a book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, by author George R. R. Martin. The series became a New York Times bestseller, with all five books earning Locus Award, Hugo Award, and Nebula Award nominations. However, the vast scope of the story, which spans countless story arcs, characters, continents, and time periods, was initially believed to be impossible to adapt, similar to other sci-fi/fantasy epics like Dune and The Wheel of Time .
Martin, as well as TV writers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, admitted that the scale of the book series would be impossible to capture in a film adaptation. Hence, Benioff and Weiss decided to go in the direction of an HBO TV series. The show received widespread critical acclaim for its scale, ensemble cast, and complex story. It pulls from all five of Martin’s novels, as well as two of his future novels, for which he provided the outline. Game of Thrones takes place on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, following a long political conflict between nine noble houses vying for the throne after years of peace were disrupted by the Targaryen madness. Throughout its eight seasons, it follows a large cast of characters, including Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldua), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).
Although the show concluded in 2019, it didn’t take long for the prequel series House of the Dragon to arrive. It adapts parts of Martin’s book Fire and Ice and takes place 200 years before Game of Thrones, following House Targaryen when it ruled the Seven Kingdoms. The show has been very well received, earning numerous accolades, including several for the performances of Emma D’Arcy, Milly Alcock, and Matt Smith. Another prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight , is in development.

Game of Thrones
There are two ways to watch The Game of Thrones franchise: chronologically or by release date. For those wishing to watch it chronologically, they would watch season 1 (and eventually season 2) of House of the Dragon which takes place in 101 AC. Then, once released, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will take place in 209 AC, between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. You can then finally begin watching all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, which begins in 298 AC.
Watching chronologically removes the risks of spoilers for House of the Dragon, but we recommend watching in the release date order below to understand the Game of Thrones world before delving into the prequel.
How to watch the Game of Thrones franchise in release order
Below you can find the entire franchise in release order, including the latest streaming offers for each of George R. R. Martin's fantasy TV shows. This will show you whether you can watch Game of Thrones on streaming services such as Netflix, MAX, Prime Video and more. We'll also let you know if you the franchise is available to watch legally online for free.
Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.
The Targaryen dynasty is at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins when King Viserys breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight
A century before GOT, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Egg wandered through Westeros, while the Targaryen dynasty ruled the Iron Throne and dragons were still remembered, great destinies and enemies await the incomparable friends.

Game of Thrones was all about the battle for the Iron Throne. You might not like the answer, but we can tell you who won that fight.
Today, we’re posing a different question: Which star from the cast is the wealthiest with the highest estimated net worth?
HBO’s fantasy series is the sort of industry dominating, pop culture titan that comes around every so often and totally changes the game. And while the characters battled it out on the screen, the show made its stars rich in real life.
The show brought the world of Westeros to life straight from the pages of George R.R. Martin ‘s A Song of Ice and Fire novels and became a breakaway hit that fans are still talking about many years after the grand finale.
It’s such a beloved franchise that it expanded with the release of a new spinoff series House of the Dragon , which started in 2022 and was almost instantly renewed for a second season that will premiere later this year. Check out a trailer .
The cast of the original series is made up of an incredible group of talented actors. Some of them, especially the youngest stars, came to fame with Game of Thrones and have gone on to find success elsewhere. Take Sophie Turner , for example, who brought Sansa Stark to life and went on to join the X-Men franchise, portraying one of the universe’s most powerful heroes.
Others enjoyed successful careers before joining the series and continue to star in major projects across the globe in 2024.
Who has amassed the largest approximate net worth over the years?
Following news that two of the franchise stars were reuniting for a new movie , we got curious and did some digging to put together a ranking from lowest to highest. With a worth of approximately $120 million, the top earner has the competition beat by a landslide.
Scroll through the slideshow to see a ranking of the wealthiest members of the Game of Thrones cast based on their estimated net worth…
