Caleruega Church has beautiful architecture and a tranquil natural environment that makes it ideal for religious activities and spiritual retreats. In fact, it has become a well-known wedding venue.

One of the buildings in Fantasy World, Batangas

Fantasy World was meant to be the Philippine version of Disneyland. It’s supposed to be the largest and grandest theme park in the country. However, this ambitious project has remained unfinished. Fantasy World has never opened as a theme park. According to local stories and rumors, the Japanese owner had financial problems and, therefore, stopped the construction years ago.

Despite being a failed project, Fantasy World is still a favorite Batangas tourist spot and a frequent filming location. Its large fairytale castle, medieval-themed structures, and sad story have managed to attract many tourists.

  • Book a Fantasy World tour to explore this Disneyland-like attraction

You can still access Fantasy World if you pay the minimal entrance fee. But it’s not a functional theme park, so there are no rides or shows. With its intact medieval architecture and lush surroundings, Fantasy World is still very scenic.

While here, you can walk around, enter the fairytale-like buildings and take photos. One popular spot in the abandoned park is the hanging bridge connected to two treehouses. You can climb to the top of the treehouses and enjoy the views of Batangas, including the Taal Volcano.

Fantasy World is located along Diokno Highway in Lemery, Batangas. A local homeowners association is managing and operating the property.

Facade of the Taal Basilica in Batangas

Taal Basilica’s official name is Basilica of St. Martin de Tours. It stands on top of a hill at the center of Taal Town. This basilica is huge; it is 96 meters high and 45 meters wide. It is often referred to as the largest Catholic Church in Asia.

Taal Basilica was reconstructed several times in the 19th century. Its Baroque appearance today is attributed to architect Luciano Oliver, who redesigned the church in 1856.

The church’s main draws are its silver tabernacle and facade, which is comparable to the one at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Taal Basilica’s 26 classical columns at the entrance are indeed an impressive sight!

Taal Basilica is a popular wedding site and a favorite destination of devotees during the Catholic Lenten season.

When you enter, the basilica’s altar size will immediately impress you. This altar is 10 meters wide, 24 meters high, and lined with Doric columns with a Jesus Christ statue at the center.

Taal Basilica is the main building in Taal Park, which has other notable landmarks like the Rizal College and the Escuela Pia: Taal Heritage Center.

10 Must-Visit BATANGAS BEACHES

tourist spot in batangas beach

Last updated: 27 March 2024

Batangas is like a vacation banquet brimming with a buffet of delightful tourist destinations that cater to a multitude of preferences. Those who want to indulge in history will have a sweet time exploring the province’s historical sites such as the old churches and the heritage town of Taal. For those who want to have a taste of Batangas (literally!), food tripping will let you experience the mouthwatering cuisines while also doing a road trip. Woot!

And do I hear someone mentioning mountains and beaches ? I mean come on. Who can deny the fact that Batangas, through the years, has become a household name when it comes to summer and weekend destinations near Manila , whether swimming or hiking? If someone were to ask you to name a beach that is easily accessible from Metro Manila, the top-of-mind answer would be a beach in Batangas — 99.99% of the time. Beg to disagree? Fight the Batangueños. Hehe.

While finding sand as fine and white as that of Boracay is rare, the shores of Batangas will always have something interesting to offer weekend warriors. You can go beach camping, island hopping, snorkeling, and hiking-beach bumming combo. You can choose from light to dark, fine to coarse, and rocky to pebbly shores. Some of the beaches are well-developed offering accommodation options from budget to luxury resorts. The main draw really is its proximity to the metro, a mere two to three-hour drive to escape the hustle-and-bustle of the city. Here are 10 must-visit beaches in Batangas.

WHAT'S IN THIS GUIDE?

Verde Island (Batangas City)

tourist spot in batangas beach

Nestled in Verde Island Passage , this sleepy quiet fishing island in Batangas City is yet to reach its full potential, far from it actually, but it is starting to wake up from its slumber. Its location is an important site of marine biodiversity, hailed the center of the center, having the world’s highest concentration of marine species.

On the surface, the island and its shores are raw and bare, but its surrounding clear waters are a marriage between cerulean and sapphire hues. Mahabang Buhangin and Cueva Sitio are two of the usual destinations of those who seek the rugged and rough kind of beach getaway. If you just want a day trip, it will be more convenient to find a hotel in Batangas City.

Laiya Beach (San Juan)

tourist spot in batangas beach

One of the most developed beaches in Batangas, Laiya in the municipality of San Juan is, not surprisingly, one of the most visited also because of its proximity to Manila. Lined with public and private resorits, its coast offers tourists with more than enough choice of accommodations, from budget to luxury.

If you are into hiking, Mt. Daguldul and Mt. Hugom are two coastal mountains in San Juan, Batangas. Some people hike first and then swim after. Others opt to stay overnight in one of the resorts in Laiya.

Masasa Beach (Tingloy)

tourist spot in batangas beach

Masasa Beach , located on the southern portion of the island municipality of Tingloy, has piqued the curiosity of weekend warriors, searching for something off-the-beaten track. The novelty seems to be less intense now, as more tourists discover this gem among must-visit beaches in Batangas. While there’s a steady increase in the number of people getting interested, some have already gone there, rewarding themselves with the peace and quiet this long stretch of fair sand and clear water offers when it was still under-the-radar.

Mang Oscar’s Beach (Tingloy)

tourist spot in batangas beach

I first came to Mang Oscar’s Beach after hiking Mount Gulugod-Baboy in Mabini, Batangas. It was not part of our plan, but reaching the peaks, we glimpsed the vista of the bay, the Maricaban Strait and its islands (Sombrero and Maricaban), the city and the port, the mountains of Lobo (and even Mt. Maculot and Mt. Batulao). We’ve decided to go to Sombrero Island after the hike.

It was so spontaneous; therefore, we had a hard time finding an available boat to take us there. When we did find one, it was late afternoon already. In short, the boatman convinced us to go to a bigger island instead. Well, yeah, it was indeed a big island because it’s a whole municipality of Tingloy. Haha. We docked at what they refer to as Oscar Island , but it’s actually just one of the beaches in Tingloy . Like its sister Masasa, it has a stretch of off-white sand and clear waters where we took a dip and watched the sunset.

Calayo Beach (Nasugbu)

tourist spot in batangas beach

Nasugbu is one of those areas in Batangas that had an early taste of development. Its beaches are hide away in exclusive villages and subdivisions, requiring membership and/or advanced reservation to access them such as Hamilo Coast, Tali Beach Subdivision, Punta Fuego, Kawayan Cove, and Canyon Cove.

While some are privately-managed, most are still open to the public with no need for prior booking. Calayo Beach is one of such beaches, among other must-visit Beaches in Batangas. Calayo is a fishing village that is slowly transforming into a beach destination. It has fine light brown sand with blue-green waters. It is usually the jump-off point for Bituin Cove, Loren Island (or Pulo Island), and other nearby coves.

Pulo Island (Nasugbu)

tourist spot in batangas beach

Known to locals as Pulo Island or Pulo-pulo , Loren Island is like that one person who is easy to get along with yet still retain some kind of mystery. She will intrigue you. The cove part is welcoming with its mixture of fine and course beige sand, but the sloping beach just beside the cove and the beach behind will either intimidate you or challenge you with their rugged appearance highlighted by the rocky shores and unspoiled islet. She is sugar and spice.

The island is private property, supposedly owned by Loren Legarda, but tourists are welcome here for a minimal fee. There’s a small cove beside the sloping stretch of sand. It’s here where most of the visitors gather for a dip because the area is less rocky compared to the other parts of the island.

Bituin Cove (Nasugbu)

tourist spot in batangas beach

Bituin Cove , also known to locals as Angara Cove , is one of Nasugbu’s many pristine sand pockets gracing its coast. It’s a must-visit if you’re looking for Batangas beaches to chill at. The cove is located in Barangay Calayo, more than half an hour drive from the town proper of Nasugbu. Its sand is a mixture of coarse sand and shingles; the color is between beige and light brown. Aside from Calayo, Barangay Papaya can also be your jump-off point to the island-hopping tour that can take you to Bituin Cove.

Manuel Uy Beach (Calatagan)

tourist spot in batangas beach

Beach camping is one of the favorite summer activities of those who love the outdoors. From camping on the beach with bare necessities on one end, to its high-end counterpart, glamping, on the other end, beach camping spells two things — beach and camping. There are many beach camping spots in the Philippines; one of those near Manila is Manuel Uy Beach in Calatagan, Batangas. According to one of the staff, this long stretch of cream-colored sand is owned by the businessman, you guessed it right, Manuel Uy. Manuel Uy Beach is sandwiched by Stilts Calatagan Beach Resort and Aquaria Water Park.

Malabrigo Point (Lobo)

tourist spot in batangas beach

Malabrigo will always have a special place in my heart. There was a time when this secluded hard-to-reach beach had been my family’s summer hideaway, for four consecutive years. The beach was all ours, save for some residents (and swimmer dogs) and we always loved going to the lighthouse in the morning.

Instead of sand, Malabrigo’s shore is carpeted by smooth pebbles and stones, which I actually like because I don’t have to worry about sand in my hair and my swimwear. We once spotted a couple of dolphins playing from a distance one afternoon.

Matabungkay Beach (Lian)

tourist spot in batangas beach

Matabungkay Beach had its glory days back in the ’50s until early ’90s. It was on top of any list of must-visit beaches in Batangas for family and company outings, weekend getaways with friends, and group excursions during its heyday. I was about eight years old when I first set foot on Matabungkay’s famed fine light gray sand that appears to be white when the sun is glaring. My second time was in 2007; last April this year was my third. It’s a long stretch of ashen sand lined with resorts, stores, and houses. Matabungkay Beach is also known for its floating bamboo raft cottages.

13 BEST BEACHES IN BATANGAS, PHILIPPINES

13 BEST BEACHES IN BATANGAS, PHILIPPINES

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

Batangas is known for many things: centuries-old churches , irresistible delicacies , a volcano within a lake , a strong accent, and the balisong (butterfly knife). But more than anything else, the one thing that first comes to mind when Batangas is mentioned — beaches. Even the Eraserheads knew this, when they sang about driving to the beach.

This early, I have to tell you that Batangas doesn’t have powdery beaches that are as white as the Oscars. If you’re looking for Boracay-like sand strewn over kilometers of shore, you’re gonna be disappointed. That’s not to say that a trip to a Batangan beach won’t be enjoyable.

Fringing the southwestern tip of Luzon, Batangas harbors an impressive shoreline, made up of various types of beaches. Some are sandy, some pebbly, some rocky. Some are totally secluded, others fully developed. Each has its own charm. Each has its own market. But the top thing that makes Batangas beaches popular is its proximity to Manila. Just a three- to four-hour drive from the capital, this Southern Tagalog province offers an easy respite to the weary urbanite. Here are 13 beaches in Batangas that are worth the trip (in no particular order).

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Laiya, San Juan

Laiya is one of the most developed beaches in Batangas. And it’s not hard to see why. Its long and wide stretch of sand attracts thousands and thousands of tourists especially during summer. Countless resorts, both high-end and budget, have mushroomed along the coast over the past years, making this a great option for those who want to just relax and be comfortable. Laiya is also a favorite for corporate events.

Note though that the sand here isn’t white or fine. It’s coarse and more on the beigh-light brown side, but it still makes up a good view.

Verde Island, Batangas City

tourist spot in batangas beach

Verde Island is part of Batangas City, but it is in no way as commercialized as the rest. Situated 45 minutes off the mainland, it cradles a number of beach attractions that are almost untouched including Mahabang Buhangin and Cueva Sitio.

The island also sits in the middle of Verde Island Passage, which is described by a 2007 Smithsonian Institute study as the “center of the center” of the world’s marine biodiversity citing the high concentration of marine species.

Where to stay : If you don’t want to stay overnight, you may stay in a hotel in Batangas City.

Manuel Uy Beach, Calatagan

tourist spot in batangas beach

Manuel Uy Beach Resort is a rising day tour and camping destination in Calatagan. It’s along the same coast that cradles Stilts Calatagan Resort and Burot Beach. At first glance, it doesn’t look like a resort at all, more like a camp site. With the exception of the shower and toilet rooms and a staff stations, there are no permanent concrete structures along the beach.

It is a long, wide strip of cream-colored sand lapped gently by Calatagan’s signature shallow waters. It’s divided into two by an inlet. It’s also an ideal jump-off point to Starfish Island and a sandbar. Island hopping tours are available on the beach for only P300 per person.

Masasa Beach, Tingloy

tourist spot in batangas beach

Completely isolated from mainland Batangas, the humble municipality of Tingloy remains untouched by the claws of development. Its best beach is called Masasa, a long, off-white stretch concealed in the southern edge of Maricaban Island (Tingloy’s main island).

Where to stay : There are no resorts or hotels in Masasa Beach. Many visit it on a day tour from Anilao.

Check hotel rates here : Anilao Resorts

More info : Masasa Beach

Sombrero Island, Tingloy

tourist spot in batangas beach

If you like trekking, you’ve probably heard about Mt. Gulugod Baboy in Mabini. And if you’ve conquered Mt. Gulugod Baboy, you’ve probably heard about Sombrero Island. Most mountaineers and hikers coming down the hill opt to go on a day trip to this island before coming back to Manila.

So called for its shape, Sombrero Island has a rounded peak surrounded by a bed of sand, where beach bums can laze and just enjoy the clear water.

Where to stay : Anilao Resorts

Sepoc Beach, Tingloy

tourist spot in batangas beach

Sepoc Beach (or Sepoc Point) is a private strip owned and managed by Eagle Point Beach Resort, which allows it to be less swarmed as other beaches in Batangas. Lacing the northwestern tip of Tingloy, it can be included in Tingloy island hopping tours from Masasa Beach or Anilao. Public boats are free to stop here but the inland amenities like restrooms and dining hall, and a hilltop viewpoint are exclusive to the resort guests.

Where to Stay : Anilao Resorts

Fortune Island, Nasugbu

Fortune Island is part of the municipality of Nasugbu. It’s actually a surprise that not many people outside Batangas know about it. I grew up hearing about this island all the time. The island’s most prominent features are the Greek columns, ruins of what looks like a private rest house.

Where to stay : You may choose to stay at a resort in the mainland.

Calayo Beach, Nasugbu

tourist spot in batangas beach

The beaches of Nasugbu are among the first in the province to undergo major development. There are resorts everywhere, many of which have their own cove: Hamilo Coast and Punta Fuego, to name a few. But there are still beaches that are open to the general public. Calayo Beach is one of them.

Calayo Beach is lined with several houses and budget to mid-range resorts. The sand here isn’t spectacular. It’s fine but it’s closer to light brown than white. But it is the jump off point to better beaches like Pulo Island, Kayraang Cove, and Bituin Cove.

More Info: NASUGBU TRAVEL GUIDE

Pulo Island, Nasugbu

tourist spot in batangas beach

Locals call it Pulo-pulo, but tourists know this as Pulo Island or Loren Island. Yep, Loren as in Loren Legarda, who, according to our boatmen, owns this piece of paradise. It’s located just 20 minutes from Calayo Beach. The sand here isn’t white or fine, it’s beige and pebbly at best, but it still offers a fantastic island escape. The island has two beaches and what looks like a sandbar that links to another rocky islet.

A post shared by VINS & YOSH 🇵🇭 (@thepoortraveler) on Apr 30, 2018 at 7:52pm PDT

Bituin Cove

tourist spot in batangas beach

Said to be owned by Sen. Edgardo Angara, this short strip of sand and shingles is a rising camping destination just 20 minutes away from Calayo Beach. You can stay overnight or visit as part of an island hopping tour. Entrance fee is P25. From Calayo Beach, it can be reached by chartering a boat which costs P1500, good for 12 pax.

Malabrigo Point, Lobo

The pebble beach of Malabrigo is not your usual white beach.

While Laiya and Nasugbu attract most Manila-dwellers, Malabrigo has managed to fly under the radar all these years, preserving its natural beauty and pristine state. Two things can take credit for it. One is its location. Nestled in a relatively obscure municipality, it can be reached by meandering along mountainsides. The other reason is that it’s not your typical beach. It’s a pebble beach. Instead of fine sand, its beach is composed of small- to medium-size grey and white cobbles. There’s also a beautiful lighthouse nearby.

More info : Malabrigo Beach

Matabungkay Beach, Lian

I envy this kid!!!

If locals are to be believed, Matabungkay was “rediscovered” in the early 1950s by Germans who were looking for a go-to paradise within proximity to the bustling Manila. Since then, Matabungkay transformed from a simple fishing village into a tourism destination. The shore is strewn with ashen sand that sparkles a white glow when hugged by sunlight. It is bordered landward by a long, cramped lane of resorts and stores. Beware though, the last time I was here, I could not help but notice the trash littered on the beach.

Check hotel rates here: Matabungkay Resorts

More info : Matabungkay Beach

Burot Beach, Calatagan

Update (11/2016): We got word that this is currently NOT OPEN to the public anymore.

Burot Beach

For the longest time, Burot Beach was a best-kept secret. But that has changed recently as more and more beach-chasers discovered it. It’s a short cove tucked in the western edge of Punta de Santiago in Calatagan. It is said to have been purchased by development giant SM, but it remains open to those who seek a short affair with nature.

Where to Stay : Camping is the way to go. But if it’s not your thing, you may stay in other resorts in the area.

Hi! Thanks for the great review. Can you recommend a beach in Batangas that has nice sandy shoreline that’s good for swimming and quite near the snorkeling area? We went to Laiya in the past. It was nice but when you get to the part where the water is around waist deep, biglang baba na yun sand. Mejo hindi safe for kids to swim.

Thank you in advance. -Celeste

Hi Celeste, try Calatagan. Most beaches in Calatagan have really shallow waters.

I see, thanks for the suggestion! Will check Calatagan then.

Sa Ivory Beach Resort sa Calatagan ok din dun. You can stay there until tomorrow afternoon even if you went there early morning. The rates are very affordable with good CR. The entrance fee plus ecological charge is 130 pesos. FREE tables and Electricity. You can rent a tent ranging from 300 to 700 pesos.

We’ll check it out!
