$500 "service fee for nearly zero service

We visited Travel Associates Glenelg to obtain help with booking flights. Were informed that $250 "service fee" per person was now normal in the post COVID world. Successfully booked appropriate flights and later travel insurance, but from then on emails were rarely answered or only much later (so that we always ended up sorting out issues ourselves), excuses were made about "sick, busy, other clients", little to no information provided re eg "24hr helpline" (only mentioned at end of trip). VERY confusing, frustrating and huge waste of $500.

Still waiting for $9,000 refund.

Cancelled flights in May having used this agency to book flights. I was informed the cancellation process will take 14 days. 2 months later still no refund. I have followed up numerous times. Last communication I sent was 2 weeks ago. I was told that refunds go directly into the agency’s pooled account. Have not heard back. They are charging $75 per person ($300) for this service!!! What service? I’m having to chase them. I would have been better off booking directly with the airline. The refund is for $9,000+. I’ve been very tolerant of the travel industry for the last 3 years due to Covid etc but this is an absolute joke.

DISHONEST BUSINESS CONDUCT

Our Alaskan cruise was cancelled by the Operator however Travel Associates want to sting us a $300pp cancellation fee! Our T&c's state that if we cancel we pay the fee, no problem with that, however we didn't cancel! They are getting a full refund & keeping their commission yet want to charge us! Not to mention the fact that they expect us to wait up to 12 weeks before getting any $ back! Absolutely dishonest business conduct

The decision to waive fees will impact our business, nevertheless we have heard your feedback and we believe this step is the right one for the current economic conditions where stand downs and job losses are a daily occurrence for many Australians. Many clients are, of course, choosing to postpone their holidays and to leave their money on file with us as a credit that can be used for future bookings, and this might be an attractive proposition for you given the incentives we are now offering for doing so. We are offering an additional credit of up to $200 per person provided to clients who leave funds on file for future bookings. Our people are working tirelessly to process each refund and to reduce refund relays, but processing is reliant on airlines and other suppliers returning the funds faster. Fees for services

Despite charging fees, their service is no better or no worse than other travel agents. Next time I'll try a travel agent that does not charge booking fees.

Very happy with Hampton

Very happy with Hampton, Vic office. We don't have a problem with the concierge fee now being charged. They do a massive amount of running around to get airline fares etc booked, and make virtually no money from the airlines, in particular. Plus if there is any rescheduling or rebooking or rearranging required, they do it and not us. So it's a win/win :-)

Annette from TA in Hobart is the best travel agent we have ever used. She goes above and beyond. Would recommend her to anyone. Made our life easy and nothing is a problem. This is our 3d time with the Hobart team and will use her again for any future travel. Big Thanks

Judgemental, rude, unhelpful! Stay Away!

Went to the Hampton centre and dealt with Simone Kacan. Advised her I was wanting to book my flights to the USA and all my internals. First thing she said was she will be charging me $125 per person for the flights as they airlines didn’t pay her!!! Wow! I thought this was quite an odd thing to say first up. She then continued to state that I could go down the road to Flight Center where they don’t have those charges!!! It gets better!! she goes on to say she wasn’t even willing to look up any flights for me unless I paid a “concierge” fee first.. it was clear that she had pre judged me and decided I wasn’t worth her time. Ironically the shop had not one customer at the time. The story ends with me taking her advice and going to flight centre. I booked 3 business class return tickets and 2 sky lounge tickets return. Along with 3 internal flights within the USA for 5 people and all our transfers. In contrast the staff at flight centre were very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to display great customer service. As for Travel Associates I am a bayside local and will be telling everyone I know about my experience and treatment.. very poor form..

Great service

We've had a great experience working with Carole Parker on several occasions. One stands out in particular: we had planned a trip to Western Australia, and our plans had to be changed multiple times (and then cancelled) due to changing COVID restrictions. Thank heavens for Carole's energy, knowledge, and good cheer! We could not have managed without her.

Refusal to waive cancellation fees

I have booked four flights to the UK in July which have been cancelled by the airline. The operator/adviser I booked them through is refusing to waive the 300 AUD per person cancellation fee. She claims she is not bound by the Travel Associations policy to waive fees as this agreement "is not for clients that have booked with a Travel associates Franchise or TA Contractor". When I booked the flights all correspondence and the travel itinerary are ranked Travel Associates and as such I believed I was booking with this company and agreeing to their T&Cs. It is irrelevant to what relationship the operator has with the company. can you please confirm that all cancellation fees should be waived regardless on my booking.

Fantastic service

Fantastic service. I had planned a month long backpacking trip to Tasmania and even when borders closed and prospects of leaving got dim, my agent Michelle consistently ensured I was up to date. I was even able to book my return flights home up the top of Mt Ossa and everything was organised momentarily. Will definitely recommend this organisation to any friend keen on travelling.

Dishonest indeed

Dishonest indeed. In September 2019 I booked and paid for 10 people to go to Hawaii in April 2020. I did not change this booking. The Airlines cancelled and on 16 March said they would refund. I toldTravel Associates in Wagga Wagga and they wrote back and disagreed with me. I have a letter from Hawaiian Airlines with a reference number and names of passengers saying they refunded the travel agent. The accommodation booked could be cancelled 24 hours before our arrival date so I know that wasn't paid for. I have been to a Solicitor and Consumer Affairs. At first, in March 2020, Travel Associates said they would look into it next week. Now they say up to 12 weeks. The amount is over $35,000.00. They are going to charge cancellation fee of $3,000.00 for ten people for their service. I haven't received a service. I would like a refund. I would never go to this agent again and I will make sure other people know about it.

Very Poor Service & Understanding of Our Circumstances

we booked an Evergreen (Scenic) Tours river cruise to Vietnam/Cambodia for September 2020. Evergreen cancelled our trip due to the China virus and although presenting medical documentation to state we can not take the vaccine, Evergreen/Scenic are refusing to refund the monies we paid for this trip. Travel Associates travel agent has since quit and we are now dealing with Darin Warburton who has advised me via email there is little he can do and has basically washed his hands of the issue and directed us to contact Evergreen Tours (Scenic Tours is the parent company). Very poor customer service and little to no understanding of our situation. Basically, they have our monies and I dare say Travel Associates have received their commission and we have not had our holiday and based on travel bans and the rollout of the vaccine, we will never be able to travel overseas. (Booking Ref. 670928)...Nice attempt at a reply, however, you already have my name and booking reference, its not hard to find my contact details...you just need to try...

Great service, 10/10 would recommend

I never thought securing a flight from the UK- AUS in the height of the pandemic with low flight caps was possible, but Bruce made it happen. He was great and worked with my UK times and was continually very reliable with responses right up until the day of flying and checking up when I arrived safely. Great service, and would 100% recommend this company to help make your travels go smoothly.

Deceptive and unethical conduct

We booked an overseas trip through Travel Associates which is part of the Flight Centre Travel Group. They have charged us two cancellation fees, one being a $600 cancellation fee and the other $260 from Infinity Holidays which is not even charging any cancellation fees! Notwithstanding the fact that we did not cancel our trip - we opted to take the refund. All correspondence and receipts are Travel Associates - their website even advertises the refund policy and the decision with the ACCC on refunding customers the cancellation fees! As such we have spent over three months seeking the return of these monies, only to be told that they are a franchise and that they aren’t a party to Flight Centre Travel Group. This is deceptive conduct and furthermore misleading to advertise this on their website and claim they have a different set of “franchise rules”. The franchise relationship with the parent company should be of no consequence to the consumer!!! Frankly, it’s irrelevant where is Flight Centre Travel Group in all of this!?

Excellent service

Rachel Colombo provided me with excellent, highly knowledgeable service. I walked in and met with Rachel having a very vague idea of my plans, and she provided me with some really good advice as a starting point to plan my holiday. My husband and I emailed Rachel several times with questions and variations and each time she responded promptly and with relevant information. I received excellent service from Rachel, and would happily recommend her to everyone I know.

Always great service

Catherine at Press & James Travel Associates is a true professional. She always provides great service and looks after all our travel needs in a timely manner. We find the quality of her work and the way she does things second to none. She is thorough and thinks ahead to what we might need. She has lots of links to suppliers and hotels so can find the best and most suitable deals for us. We leave everything up to Catherine and our travel bookings run smoothly. 7 months and still NO refund!

30/10 - Further to this post. I received a call last week to advise me my refund would be in my account Tues/Wed this week and guess what? IT ISN'T!!!! TA have not received the money from QF yet and it could (don't hold your breath) come next Monday 2nd Nov! Too say I am frustrated and annoyed is an understatement! I cancelled my US airfares in April that I booked through Travel Associates in Camberwell. It is now nearing the end of October 2020 and I am still waiting for my QF refund for a trip that I never took! I keep following up and keep being told 'We are waiting on the funds from Qantas'! They sent me a screenshot from May! PLEASE will someone tell me how long does it takes to get a refund from Qantas to Travel Associates and then how long do you (Travel Associates) take to process it internally? I have received ALL the refunds from my accomodarion in the US in 30 days as they have it in a trust account and because I booked direct with the hotel! I think that I have been more than paitent don't you?
