It’s also worth bearing in mind that whilst all the products in this list are physically manufactured or assembled in the UK, the raw materials for some products might come from overseas. Not all raw materials are produced in the UK, so this is largely unavoidable.

One thing to watch out for when looking for gifts made in the UK are products that are “designed in the UK”. This phrase can be used to mask the reality that the products are actually manufactured overseas.

London based jeweller Raniska makes a range of beautiful and well priced jewellery items. We think these world map designs in particular would make the perfect gift for a travel lover.

Like many travellers, we love keeping track of where our travels have taken us. One way we have found do to that is with a scratch off travel map .

Water Bottle

Staying hydrated, whether we are are travelling or not, is of course important to us. When we travel, we always take a water bottle with us so as to cut down on the waste generated by single use plastic water bottles.

As such, we think that most travellers will definitely appreciate the gift of a high quality re-usable bottle for drinks. There are many of these on the market, however finding a water bottle which is actually manufactured in the UK can be a challenge.

The best option we found is this Eco-Bottle which is actually made in the UK from 100% recycled food grade plastic and can be re-used indefinitely. All their raw materials are sourced in the UK making this the perfect eco-friendly gift. The bottle is dishwasher safe and BPA free. Just be aware that it doesn’t have any insulation properties for keeping drinks hot or cold.

If you aren’t travelling, you can still make your home smell like an exotic destination with scented candles. Scent is a powerful way to evoke a memory of a location or occasion, and we love to use candles around our home to bring back memories of past adventures.

There are a number of UK based candle manufacturers. Some to consider include:

• Above the Flame Candles – this company creates a range of scented soy wax candles from their location in Inverness, Scotland

Socks are one of those quintessential gifts. Since everyone needs them, including travellers, we think you might as well invest in those which are made in Britain.

Corgi Socks , which have been made in Wales since 1892, started out as a manufacturer of hard-wearing socks for miners. They have since expanded, and it is said that even the Queen buys her socks from Corgi.

Corgi have a range of socks available in different materials, so we are sure you’ll find the perfect gift. They also have a range of other gifts and knitwear available, including scarves, cushions, blankets, hats, and cardigans!

Push Pin Balloon House

We love this tiny push pin balloon house from Clive Roddy and keep ours on our desk, although it can also be mounted to a wall, noticeboard or push pin map . It’s a fun reminder of the opportunities of travel, which also happens to be a functional pin holder!

One thing that all travellers have is luggage of some kind. So a thoughtful gift of handmade personalised luggage tags is one you know your recipient is going to use!

A great gift for a traveller is a product that perhaps reminds them of a previous trip, or gets them excited about an upcoming trip. A piece of art that can be hung on a wall makes for a lovely gift.

Good eye protection is important, and we think all travellers would benefit from a good pair of sunglasses. The good news is that you can actually buy high quality sunglasses that have been designed and made in the UK, and they are even available at an affordable price point!

Oxford based manufacturer Sunwise has been producing well made yet affordable eye-wear in the UK since 1996, and they have a range of award-winning products to choose from.

Shaving Kit

Staying clean shaven is of course important to some travellers, so putting together a gift of made in the UK shaving products might be a great option. UK company King of Shaves makes their products in the UK, and you can see their products here .

A Tour of the UK with a UK based Tour Operator

Not all travel themed gifts have to be a physical product. The gift of an experience that will be treasured for a lifetime is definitely one to consider.

One of our favourite UK based tour company is Rabbie’s . Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, the company now offers tours all across the UK and Ireland, with departures from major cities all around the UK and Ireland. Tours are available for a range of durations, from half a day to multiple weeks. All the tours feature groups of no more than 16 in very comfortable vehicles, and you can also book private tours.

Map Themed Gifts made in the UK

Many travellers, us included, love maps. So a great gift for a traveller might be something that includes a map.

Another company to consider for picnic blankets is the British Blanket Company . This UK based company creates handmade blankets of all types, including picnic blankets, which are woven at traditional mills across the British Isles.

Travel Journal

If you know a traveller who loves to keep a journal of their adventures, then you might want to buy them a travel journal as a gift.

With this in mind, check out the awesome products from The Pink Pig . This Yorkshire-based company makes a lovely range of notebooks, scrapbooks and sketchbooks, perfect for the travelling writer in your life!

If you are looking for a more premium travel journal made in the UK, then take a look at this beautiful leather-bound journal from Billy Tannery.

The leather is sourced and tanned in the UK, and the book is sewn and bound in Gloucestershire. The only overseas item is the paper, which is partly made from recycled leather fibres in Italy.

English Heritage Membership

If you know someone who loves to visit England’s beautiful heritage sites, then you might consider the gift of an annual English Heritage Membership .

Membership, which can be purchased as a gift for individuals, couples, or families, will give your recipient access for a whole year to over 400 historic properties across England, as well as free parking at many English heritage car parks.

Membership also grants half price admission at a range of properties in Wales and Scotland, as well as free entry to a number of properties in Ireland, the Isle of Man and New Zealand.

Padfield makes all of their products in Somerset, England, using British made materials. Their entire product line is sourced and crafted locally, and proudly made in England. As well as washbags, they offer a range of other products, including card cases and laptop covers.

Baby Travel Sling

If you or someone you know is planning to travel with a young one, then a baby travel sling might come in handy!

Edinburgh based company Oscha Slings produces a wide range of baby wraps, carriers and slings. They are all made from fabrics woven in the British Isles and then handcrafted in their Scottish workshop.

The workshop is 100% solar powered and the company is carbon neutral and zero waste. So lots of positives here!

Cashmere Travel Wrap

A travel accessory that Jess never leaves home without is a travel wrap . These versatile garments are great for keeping her warm when travelling, and can be used as a shawl, a scarf or even a travel blanket.

One of our favourite travel wrap brands is The TravelWrap , who also happen to be based in the UK. Their beautiful 100% knitted cashmere wraps are made in Scotland, and can be monogrammed as well for a personalized gift. They also come wrapped in lovely boxes to make for a truly luxurious gift.

Water Purification System

If you know someone who loves to get outdoors, or who simply cares about their environmental footprint when traveling, then a LifeSaver makes a perfect gift. If you know someone who loves to camp, then a handcrafted UK made Ghillie Kettle might make the perfect gift.

These portable kettles are basically a stove and kettle in one. All you have to do is gather small pieces of wood and place them in the stove area, and this quickly and efficiently heats up the water.

It’s great for camping, and my family and I actually used a variant of these when on a six-week RV trip around Europe many years ago. I remember it being both easy and fun to use.

Finding electrical items that are manufactured in the UK is definitely a challenge! However, it’s still possible as UK brand Cello actually makes their TVs in the UK.

As a travel gift, you might consider one of their 12 volt travel TVs . These would be ideal TV for a van, caravan, or motorhome.

Decorative Steamer Trunks

Travel Trunks are so evocative of a different age of travel, when steam trains and romantic transatlantic crossings were the norm.

Hannah has many lovely pieces of jewellery to choose from, but we really love her coastline series of rings like this one . These rings, which are available in a range of materials and are suitable for both men and women, feature a design which traces out a favourite piece of coastline.

If you’re looking for some well made clothes, boots, or other outdoor accessories like gaiters which are made in the UK, then check out Fortis Clothing .

This Devon based manufacturer makes a whole range of apparel for men and women, including jackets, boots, smocks, gilets, vests, trousers and shirts. All their products are manufactured in the UK in the manufacturing plant in Devon, with a focus on sustainable, high-quality products.

British Made Backpacks

One thing every traveller needs is a bag to carry their belongings with. Obviously, everyone’s specific needs will vary, but we think most travellers will require some sort of day pack when out sightseeing.

What a wonderful and timely list you have put together. I live in the USA but have many family members residing in the UK and would very much like to send them more local products that don’t have to be shipped across the Atlantic.

I am very keen on some of the jewelry, the scratch maps, and the Scottish cashmere wrap. Also candles – do you know if there are any candles made in the UK that offer both lavender and some tropical fruit scents?

For the candles, from the stores that we suggest, for your specific scents I’d suggest Lasair Candles . They currently offer both a “Luxury Lavender” scent and several fruit flavored ones (including Starfruit & Mango, Caribbean, and Lemon Lime Splash). You can even personalize the labels on the candles for a more personal touch 🙂 They have excellent reviews and their candles are all handmade in Northern Ireland

Ethical! Packing cubes are designed to make travel packing easy. By separating and compressing your clothing, you can fill your backpack to capacity and keep organised. I really don’t know how I ever managed to pack before packing cubes. Osprey have good sustainability practices. 

Another even more ethical option are Patagonia’s packing cubes made from 100% recycled fabric. However, you need to buy these separately as they don’t come in a set.

3. LifeStraw

LifeStraw is a compact and lightweight water filter that filters water for drinking. It can filter out bacteria and parasites and reduces organic chemical matter and chlorine. It filters a maximum of 1000 litres of water, which is enough for one person for approximately a year. Lifestraws let you drink water from any tap, river or water source and filter it into clean water that’s safe for drinking. I have the very lightweight and compact blue steel Lifestraw , but you can also buy a water bottle version . A great present for practical travellers!

4. FYLINA Travel Pillow

Widely tipped as one of the best travel pillows out there, this is a good travel gift for the frequent flyer or bus-traveller. This waterproof drybag from Karrimor is the best gift for travellers who love water sports, surfing, boat trips, beach days or island hopping! Store your phone, camera and money whilst on the beach or in the water and they’ll stay dry as a desert. 

9. Sun Protection Head/Neck Scarf

These are so essential for any traveller who loves hiking. Our UV protection neck scarves have saved us from serious sunburn multiple times. I recommend the Buff brand which has UPF 50+ sun protection and breathable fabric. A good travel gift for men and women.

10. Elephant Box Leakproof Tiffin Lunchbox

Eco-friendly! This stainless steel travel lunch box from Elephant Box is 100% plastic free and it’s leakproof so no risk of pesky damp patches on your bag. This lunch box has a gorgeous circular, tiffin shape making it stylish as well as practical.

The best travel photography camera I’ve ever owned. The Fujifilm X-T20 has beautiful colouring on photos and works well in most conditions. It’s a small and lightweight camera, so can easily be carried in a backpack. I did a lot of research before investing in this camera and I’m confident it’s the best on the market for the price tag.

16. SanDisk 64GB Memory Card

If you’re buying a camera, you’ll need a memory card too. I’ve had this one for over 5 years and it’s been excellent. It will hold a large amount of travel photos.

This travel tripod works perfectly for those who prefer to take travel photos on their phone. The legs bend so you can place it anywhere, wrap it around anything and get the perfect angle.

Backpack and camera is enough for me!! Choosing the backpack is important. Which size of backpack do you think is perfect for three days travel?

Hi Brian. For 3 days of travel, I would just take a regular backpack for most trips. Though if it was a hike or a cold weather country then a 30L would be perfect.

Just love your list! I always have such a difficult time deciding on things for travel…and I love the packaging of those skincare products and I always wonder – do those aroma therapy balm really work? Thanks for the ideas!

I know that there are a lot of differing opinions around aromatherapy, but the essential oils smell great and are meant to stimulate brain function. I just enjoy the process of using them and taking time to inhale and breath well.

Okay, they’ve got a clear cosmetics bag and makeup travel mirror; now they need their favourite toiletries and cosmetics! If the travel lover in your life has a favourite beauty brand, find out whether their products come in bottles of less than 100ml ( like Sanctuary Spa’s products inside this kit ) – and just like that, you’ve got a whole bunch of stocking fillers she can use on her next getaway.

Whether she’s travelling this year, next year or beyond, you can never go wrong with an in-flight essentials kit. Especially these days, a lot of us are more safety-conscious than before and we don’t leave the house without hand sanitiser. So, a kit like this is sure to be a hit! You could put everything together yourself, or you can buy ready-made kits like the ones from Pinch Provisions .

Shampoo bars are a fabulous travel gift for women ( and men, actually! ) for two reasons. They help to reduce plastic waste and they don’t count towards your 100ml liquid allowance if travelling hand luggage only. There are lots of cosmetics brands to choose from, but if you’re not sure which to go for, then I’d either go with something from Lush or this orange and ginger one from Amazon .

A collapsible water bottle is another stocking filler we recommend for travel lovers as they help you to drink more, save a bit of money and roll up into a small size when they’re empty, so you’re not taking up unnecessary space in your suitcase or backpack. Check out this one on Amazon as it’s got great reviews and won’t bust the bank!

Personalised Leather Luggage Tags

For an oh-so-charming stocking filler, you can’t go wrong with personalised luggage tags. Sadly, the shop where I originally bought mine from is marked as “taking a break” on Etsy, but these ones are a great alternative. Their design is simple and pretty and the luggage tags are in high demand!

Why not also buy her a personalised passport holder to match her new luggage tags? Or you could go for a completely fresh look like this pretty floral design or this fun travel quote design . The choices are endless!

What kind of stocking doesn’t also have a few novelty gifts thrown in amongst all the practical ones? Here’s an idea for travel lovers: candles that smell like places! There are websites like Homesick and shops on Etsy like WanderlustCandleCoUK that specialise in these kinds of candles. For example, transport them to Hawaii with candles that smell like pineapple or coconut (or both!), or to Canada with maple syrup candles , or to Indonesia with lemongrass and ginger candles . And if they’re feeling homesick for the UK? Try a fruity concoction inspired by our autumnal hedgerows .

Speaking of travel-inspired candles, if you’re planning on surprising her with a trip, then why not let her know through a “surprise trip” candle like this one ? You can choose the scent and personalise the design to show where you’re going and when. You can even leave her a little personalised note on the candle. I love it!
