Important RV Industry Statistics

A closer look at recent rv industry trends.

The RV and camping industry continues to climb, with 80 million+ campers over the last year in the US, which is up from 66 million campers the year before, according to the 2023 camping report .

50.9% of those campers reported camping in an RV or camper van. That’s 40.7 million campers traversing the country in a recreational vehicle.

In 2022, 1 in 4.25 Americans went camping

This trend continues to rise, with an estimated 15 million Americans trying camping for the first time in just the last two years.

However, while the number of those partaking in RVing and camping is rising, RV sales have been on the decline.

While 2022 was still one of the best years financially for RV manufacturers, 2023 shipments look dismal so far , with RV shipments down by -42.8% for the year (through September), with a total of 238,121 units. This sharp decline in shipments is reminiscent of the 2007-2009 financial crisis and recession.

That said, RVIA President & CEO Craig Kirby reminds us that “RVing has remained a preferred way to travel for more than 44 million Americans planning RV trips this summer. Our latest RV shipment forecast shows that shipments should begin to recover later this year and into 2024 as consumer confidence increases and the ongoing interest in camping and RVing turns into increased RV sales.”

What is the Most Popular Type of RV?

Through September of 2023, the RVIA reported 238,121 RV shipments, breaking down to:

Popular RV brands by type include:

  • The RV Dealers Association tracks the most popular RV brands for each class. For travel trailers, Jayco takes the lead. Fifth wheels are the second most popular RV class, and Montana comes out on top for market share, with Reflection trailing not far behind.
  • Class A RVs are a marvel among motorhomes, with the famous Winnebago holding the torch since 2017. Class B, or camper vans, are rising in popularity as people tighten their budgets. Winnebago dominates this segment as well, alongside the iconic Airstream.
  • Class C RVs, constructed on truck chassis, are another budget option growing in popularity. Four Winds is the top brand in this class.

RV Sales Statistics by State

More state sales statistics.

  • Indiana nearly corners the market for RVs and RV component national shipments, accounting for 67% of the $3.6 billion market. Elkhart, Indiana, the world’s RV capital , produces about 80% of all recreational vehicles.
  • RV dealers in Maryland reported the most significant average sales per company in 2017.

How Many RV Dealers and Campgrounds are in the US?

  • The US Census Bureau listed 2,667 US-based RV dealers that produced $25.9 billion in sales in 2017.
  • The US Economic Census lists 4,513 RV parks and campgrounds with employees, producing $2.4 billion in revenue in 2017. Californian RV parks had the highest sales that same year, while South Carolina produced the highest sales per park. Texas claimed the most RV parks, with a total of 376.

The above numbers don’t include the thousands of parks operated by the National Park Service, state and local governments, and governmental organizations.

The Census also leaves out free camping offered by some organizations ( Boondockers Welcome ) and services that pair RVers with homeowners and other types of businesses ( Harvest Hosts ). As an RVer, you genuinely have a smorgasbord of options.

How Many People in the US Are Full-time RVers?

  • Currently, about one million Americans live as full-time RVers.
  • RV life is gaining serious attention. The 2020 North American Camping Report found that four in 10 campers are more interested in going full-time after the pandemic. One in 10 infrequent campers is considering full-time RVing.
  • The report also found that travelers are eager to spend time outdoors with their friends and family. Also, 60% of travelers think it’s now critical for their kids to experience the great outdoors. The sentiment suggests a long-term growing interest in the RV lifestyle.

According to the Go RVing RV Owner Demographic Profile :

  • 18-34 year olds make up 22 percent of RV owners, up from 8.47% in 2018.
  • 9.6 million households intend to purchase an RV in the next five years.
  • The median annual usage for current RV owners is roughly 20 days, while those intending to buy an RV plan to use it roughly 25 days per year.

According to RVIA , a typical RV owner is 48 years old, married, with an annual household income of $62,000.

RV ownership has increased by over 62% in the last twenty years, with almost 12 million RV-owning households as of 2022, according to a 2023 KOA report.

With lower consumer demand typically come lower prices, so expect the average RV price to drop throughout 2024. We are already starting to see it now. Tory Jon, Owner of Camper FAQs

Here’s a look at the current average cost of an RV by type .

Tip : Buying an RV at the best time can also save you thousands of dollars.

Buying a used camper or RV is a good option if you’re familiar with all the warranties and checklists involved. Here’s a rundown of the average cost of a used RV by type .

Many people opt to rent an RV before taking the plunge into full-time RV life. It’s a great way to roam the country in style and within a reasonable budget.

RV rental costs on average $81 to $129 a night for towable RVs and $209 per night for drivable RVs , depending on whether you rent through a rental company or a peer-to-peer rental service. Popular peer-to-peer options include RVshare and Outdoorsy.

The type of RV, extra services, and fees can quickly make RVing expensive, especially if you’re traveling short-term or not splitting costs with others. Weekly and monthly deals can often bring the price down. Pop-up campers , travel trailers, truck campers, and fifth wheels are the most affordable RVs to rent and own.

How does renting an RV compare to owning one? A study by Go RV Rentals in 2020 shows that an $80,000 Class-C motorhome’s cost for 20 days of usage is $911 per day, factoring in the total cost of ownership. Compare that to an average rate of $215 per day for renting a comparable RV.

Many RV parks cost as little as $5 per night and come with laundry, electric hook-ups, gyms, and playgrounds for kids. Premium RV parks and resorts can cost you between $55 to $85+ per night, while state parks sell an annual pass for around $80 and $225.

On average, expect to spend between $20 to $30 per night in a private RV park. However, RV and camping memberships usually offer discounts. There are also plenty of free or nearly free camping options. Check out Free Campsites to find options near you.

Before trying to rent an RV, ensure you are of legal age. The minimum age to rent an RV in some states is 21, while in other states, you must be at least 25.

In 2012, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reported 75,000 injuries due to RV accidents.

Common causes of RV accidents include:

  • Inexperienced drivers (most states do NOT require a special driver’s license or testing to drive an RV)
  • Senior drivers (14% of RV drivers are over the age of 65)
  • Driving over the speed limit
  • Wind (High winds and sudden wind gusts)
  • Exhaustion from driving for long periods of time
  • Adding too much weight to the RV
  • Travel trailers rolling away
  • A High center of gravity causes rollovers
  • Not properly calculating a turn
  • Miscalculated stopping distances due to the vehicle being heavier and taking longer to stop
  • According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics , there were 15,580 individuals employed as RV service technicians as of May 2019.
  • The mean hourly wage is $20.03
  • The mean annual wage is $41,660

Recreational vehicles, or RVs , offer one of the most convenient ways to travel and camp.

In fact, according to RVShares 2023 Travel Trend Report conducted by Wakefield Research, 50% of survey participants revealed an RV or motorhome was one of their top travel accommodation preferences due to the following benefits:

  • 61% cite the benefit of having a kitchen
  • 60% cite the benefit of having less pressure to arrive and depart at a specific time
  • 60% cite the ability to add detours and stops

Pandemic Fueled Growth

Furthermore, aside from the recent explosion of people living in campervans ( #vanlife on Instagram passed 14.2 million as of 2023 ), the pandemic fueled an RV vacation boom from mid-2020 to late 2021, as many vacationers opted to travel and stay in RVs instead of boarding crowded planes and staying in cramped hotels.

RVing provides a sense of control and safety while traveling, something unique to the Covid era, compared to living out of a backpack or staying in hotels.

RV campers can easily socially distance themselves when they need space. The ability to set up camp near wilderness areas and less populated towns was a huge plus for many pandemic-weary travelers.

Another bonus is the option to prepare and cook meals independently while on the move (no need to eat at crowded restaurants).

Economic Uncertainty Fuels Camping Growth

While inflation, economic uncertainty, and a post-pandemic return to normal travel have slowed the sales of new RVs (more on that later), the camping outlook in 2023 and beyond is very promising, according to Campspot CEO Michael Scheinman.

“Despite, or even because of, current economic uncertainty, both current and new, younger campers are eager to take even more trips next year to experience the unique benefits that nature has to offer,” Scheinman said. “We are also seeing travelers turn to camping as a means of keeping costs down as other costs rise.

Economic uncertainty may also be the reason for a bullish outlook on RV travel, as it’s one of the more affordable ways to vacation.

Let’s look at what’s happening around the RV and camping industry:

  • We’re seeing more and more ultralightweight campers hit the market as the demand for towable trailers that are easy on the gas tank and/or can be pulled by electric vehicles grows. Aliner’s hard-sided popup campers, starting at 1200 pounds, are an example of this new industry norm.
  • The RV show season will pick up steam again in January 2024, with roughly no more shows planned throughout the rest of the 2023 calendar year. Check out our RV show schedule to find an event near you.
  • A total of 24,095 RVs were shipped in June 2023 , marking a decrease of 46.4% compared to the 44,942 units in June 2022.
  • With the downturn in RV shipments dominating the news since Q2 2022 on, RV Industry Association (RVIA) Chairman Jeff Rutherford reminded the industry that the 2023 year likely would finish as one of the five best financial years in history.
  •  RVIA President & CEO Craig Kirby reminds us that “RVing has remained a preferred way to travel for more than 44 million Americans planning RV trips this summer. Our latest RV shipment forecast shows that shipments should begin to recover later this year and into 2024 as consumer confidence increases and the ongoing interest in camping and RVing turns into increased RV sales.”
  • The RV industry saw a few layoffs in 2023, with Grand Design announcing that they were laying off 170 employees in July and Tiffin announcing in a company email that they planned to do another round of layoffs last March.

The current RV industry has a $140 billion annual economic impact on the US economy, supporting roughly 680,000 jobs and paying out $48 billion-plus in wages.

The $140 billion annual economic impact includes:

  • RV manufacturers and suppliers – $73.7 billion
  • RV campgrounds and related travel – $35.7 billion
  • RV sales and service activities – $30.5 billion

Future RV Industry Trends & Forecasts

  • In 2023, forecasted RV shipments range between 409,000 to 429,000 units averaging a year-end total of 419,000, a roughly -16% decline from the 2022 total.
  • RV prices will continue to decline into 2024 with the rise of economic inflation, lending rates, and diesel prices, with the exception of the more fuel-efficient Class-B camper vans.

  • Yellowstone National Park
  • Grand Canyon National Park
  • Arches National Park
  • Zion National Park
  • Glacier National Park
  • Badlands National Park
  • Great Sand Dunes National Park

RV Report Conclusion

To sum up the current state of the RV industry:

As RV sales gravitate back to pre-pandemic numbers, we will continue to see a drop in new and pre-owned RV prices. With that said, while sales may return to normal, the desire to travel and stay in an RV is expected to grow, especially in the RV rental industry and sales of smaller RVs like Class-B camper vans. # 7 Best Travel Trailers with NO Bunk Beds For 5 to 10 People

In recent conversations with RVers friends, we talked about the new RV floor plans for 2023 and compared some from 2022 , and they were saying, “ Show me a travel trailer without bunks “, and “ There must be travel trailers with no bunk beds ”. That’s right, bunk beds are not a good idea for couples who occasionally receive visitors. We can’t willingly add teenagers if we offer them to sleep on a bunk mat. Let’s face it.

Here, we have two options for 2023 travel trailers with no bunk beds. The new Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer floor plan for 2023 , and the well-known Catalina Legacy Edition 343BHTS travel trailer with 2 queen bedrooms were rereleased in 2023 with little upgrades from previous years. Let’s check them out.

Best Travel Trailer Sleeps 5 No Bunk Beds: New 2023 Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Floor Plan

Forest River RV recently introduced a new 2023 Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer floor plan.

Inspired by its most popular travel trailer, the Cherokee Alpha Wolf 26DBH-L, a bunkhouse travel trailer with a queen-sized bed, Forest River presents a new travel trailer floorplan for 2023: The Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer.

As we explained many other times, bunk beds are fine for kids. Still, the comfort may be limited, and it is more versatile for RV owners to have the area that a bunkhouse would occupy and unfold sofas and booth dinettes when needed to increase the sleeping capacity. It is a way to make an investment that does not require changing RV models to accommodate other floor plans needed to adjust to the age of the family members.

The new 2023 Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer has a private master queen-size bedroom. In the center of the master bedroom is a queen-sized bed with plenty of room to walk around the bed and nightstands. The bedroom has direct access to the bathroom, and the area can be enclosed with solid doors, giving privacy to the rear of the RV.

New Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Travel Trailer No Bunk Beds

The bathroom is significant and comfortable, with plenty of storage. The shower is in the corner of the bathroom (radius shower), with hard curved sliding glass doors and a skylight.

Something that we are going to highlight in this new travel trailer, Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L floorplan , is the walk-in pantry that allows having a well-organized and even more minimalist camper .

New Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Travel Trailer Sleeps 5

The kitchen in the corner of the travel trailer is spacious enough to prepare and cook meals. It is not an island kitchen, nor too big, but it has a good proportion according to the number of people that can sleep in this camper (sleeps 5). In addition, there is an outdoor kitchen , which complements very well with the qualities of this travel trailer designed for families or couples who want to host family and friends.

Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Travel Trailer review

One of the reasons we chose this 2023 camper as one of the best travel trailers 2023 over others is the excellent value for the money (estimated price $39,500). Considering it is a travel trailer that sleeps 5, private rear bedroom, front kitchen, full dry bath with double and a radius shower, two slides-out, outside kitchen, two entry/exit doors, and an excellent length/weight ratio (under 9000 lbs. gross weight and less than 33 feet long), there is an excellent value for the money in this 2023 travel trailer .

10 Best Lightweight Travel Trailers For 2023

' src=

  • RV Trailers and Motorhomes

The Rove Lite small travel trailer. (Image: travelliterv.com)[/caption]

Consider the GVWR (not the UVW)

Many RV manufacturers tout the UVW (unloaded vehicle weight) of their trailers. But adding cargo like fresh water, propane tank(s), food, clothing, bicycles, and other camping equipment to the trailer can add hundreds of pounds to that UVW number.

GVWR is the weight to know when buying a trailer for a lightweight truck or passenger car tow vehicle.

Knowing the GVWR of small campers is the key to safe towing on road or while off-the-grid camping. Now, let’s dive into our list of the best lightweight travel trailers for 2023.

The 10 Best Lightweight Travel Trailers (Under 6,000 Pounds GVWR)

RV Sales Continue to Drop in 2023

For the past 2 years the RV industry has experienced a steady drop in sales – however, looking at November’s national sales reports, it appears the free fall is starting to slow down.

Will RV Sales pick up or will more small dealers be forced to go out of business?

Going out of Business Sign

Why the Decline in RV Sales?

Back in 2020, when COVID hit, RV sales skyrocketed as families looked for safe vacation alternatives.

2021 was the biggest year ever for RV sales . Over 600,00 RVs sold that year.

In 2022, COVID restrictions began to lift and RV sales slowed and have been declining ever since.

As we move into November 2023, the reports from manufacturers and RV dealers show us that sales are still declining.

But there is some Good News! – the decline in sales is slowing. This could mean RV supply and demand is getting closer to being balanced – which is great for both RV sellers and RV buyers.

This article will cover November’s RV sales numbers. Knowing the health of the RV industry will help you decide if it is a good time to buy or sell an RV.

New RV Sales: Balancing Supply and Demand

Our journey into RV sales numbers begins with a look at how many RVs have been made as of September 2023.

New RV Shipments for September 2023

The above charts show us a story of ups and downs. RV shipments in 2023 have been significantly lower than in 2022. (RV shipments is an indicator of how many new RVs manufacturers made and shipped to dealers.)

At one point, there was a jaw-dropping 53% decrease in shipments compared to the previous year. While that gap has narrowed slightly to around 43%, it’s essential to recognize that the RV industry is still facing a substantial decline in production.

RV Production Up From Previous Months

RV Shipments 2022 vs 2023

Looking at the bar graph above, we can see manufacturers are starting to increase the amount of RVs they’re making. This increase is due to 2 factors:

  •  New 2024 models coming out
  • RV Dealers are finally getting rid of their excess 2022 and 2023 inventory and can finally afford to buy new inventory

RV Monthly Sales Totals

2023 RV sales numbers are different than 2023 RV production numbers. Despite the 48% decline in RVs being made, overall RV sales are down by just 16% compared to last year.

RV Sales: 2022 vs 2023 Comparison

More rvs have sold than were built in 2023.

What’s driving this discrepancy between RVs being made vs RVs sold in 2023? A significant factor is that RV dealerships had surplus inventory from the previous model year.

To make room for any new models, they first needed to clear out the older stock. Because dealers were not ordering new models until they sold their existing inventory, manufacturer production during the summer months slowed down significantly.

Now, many dealerships have managed to reduce their older inventory, though some deals on last year’s models may still be found .

Manufacturers have started to regain their momentum, with production trends resembling those of 2019, a healthier year for the industry.

Scale with Supply vs Demand

Interestingly, both towable and motorized RVs have experienced nearly identical sales declines of around 16%, indicating a consistent market trend.

As interest rates have risen, affordability factors have impacted consumer interest in RV purchases.

Furthermore, dealership inventory management played a significant role. Some dealerships struggled with surplus inventory, and interest rate hikes have led to inventory shrinkage.

A Look Ahead at RV Sales in 2024

In the coming months and into 2024, we expect RV dealerships to focus on stocking fewer units, ensuring a more regular flow of inventory.

This means that while your favorite model may not always be in stock, it’s all part of a more balanced RV market.

Used RVs: Used Values Dropping as RV Sales Decline

RV in the Fall

Turning our attention to the used RV market, we find a trend that follows the “natural rhythms of the seasons.”

The saying with RV dealers is, “When the leaves fall, so do the prices,” or, “Price follows temperature,” and this trend appears to be holding true in 2023.

When we examine the following Used RV Value charts and graphs, we observe a gradual decline in average pricing for both towable and motorized RVs over the past year and a half.

Towable camper values 2023

Used RV Prices on Slow Decline

Used motorhomes have shown a more significant price fluctuation compared to used towables month-to-month.

The key takeaway is used RV pricing is on a gentle decline, largely influenced by lower, competitive pricing for new RVs.  This means you will likely get less for your used RV trade than in previous months this year.

Interestingly, there appear to be fewer trades entering the market, although this is not uncommon for this time of year.

Private sellers have stepped up, with numerous listings on platforms like RV Trader and Facebook Marketplace.

Many owners seem interested in upgrading or selling their RVs, but the market’s value shift has left some with loan-to-value ratios that don’t align with their expectations.

Using Sales Data to Make Buying or Selling Decisions

Knowing that RV makers are slowly making more RVs and the decline in RV sales is slowing may be an indicator that the Buyer’s Market that RV shoppers are currently experiencing could be coming to an end within the next year. Now may be the best time to buy an RV , because the current low prices may begin to rise as Supply and Demand begin to become more balanced.

RV Sales Recap

The new RV market is gradually finding its footing after a period of turbulence, and dealerships are likely to stock fewer units in the future.

The used RV market is following its traditional seasonal trends, with prices coming down as we move into the cooler months. As interest rates stabilize, we hope to see more consistent market conditions in the RV industry.

That wraps up our RV industry update for this month. Stay tuned for more insights and analysis in the coming months as we navigate the ever-evolving world of RVs.

Moscow, Idaho Tiny House Friendly!

A journey for full time legal living.

Moscow, Idaho is becoming a welcoming city for tiny houses with innovative creative solutions that can serve as a model in other jurisdictions.  I just ran across the most exciting article written by Macy Miller, the founder of MiniMotives and the Idaho proponent for Appendix Q Tiny Houses ,  the first state that adopted Appendix Q Tiny Houses.

Macy Miller is a mother, teacher, and architectural designer. She designed and built her family’s tiny house in 2011 which has been featured in TIME and Dwell magazines. After living tiny for four years and having two kids, her family downsized from their tiny house to a rebuilt vintage travel trailer to explore the U.S. National Parks. She remains a strong advocate of alternative living and small space dwelling.

She is now living legally, full time without looking over her shoulder, and now able to put roots down with her family. What a sigh of relief! Sharing her entire story below.

Moscow, Idaho Removed The 6 Month Restriction For RVs On 1/21/2020

RVs, Park Models, And Tiny Homes Allowed In Mobile Home Parks

The Moscow City Council removed the 6-month restriction of RVs in mobile home parks last night, through a unanimous vote. Park Models and tiny homes on wheels will also be allowed in mobile home parks in Moscow as well for full-time hookups year around. It was heartwarming to see supportive comments from each city council member.

Led by Mayor Bill Lambert, the city council also suspended the rules requiring three, complete separate readings, to be read by title, and published by summary. Mayor Bill Lambert” Ordinance number 2020 Days O1 an ordinance with the city of Moscow, Idaho a MunicipalCorporation of the state of Idaho, providing for the amendment at Moscow city code title 6, chapters, 2, 3 and 4 regarding amendments to the mobile homes parks and recreational vehicle parks chapters providing that the provisions of this ordinance are deemed severable and providing for this ordinance to be in full force and effect from the day of its passage approve and publication according to law. ”

Did I Mention, We Legally Live Full Time In Our Tiny House Now?

In Macy’s Own Words:

Yep! That’s right! No staying up at night wondering if we’ll get the boot in the coming weeks and it feels so good. It feels like I can finally put down some roots and invest some time and labor into making my house more beautiful. I think I will finally plant that modified green roof I designed over 8 years ago!

Even when we moved up to Moscow it was with the expectation that we would only be here for a max of half the year. That is what the zoning on the property allowed and we could work with that. When Covid hit we decided to shift around plans and head up to do some work on the property. While up we received a notice that reinforced the time limit. I took this notice as an opportunity to work out a more permanent plan since the county reached out to me to open the discussion.

Frankly, I was not thinking anything would happen but figured it was worth the try. As it turns out, we were able to work out a solution that allowed full-time tiny living! I am going to include the text from my communication with the county after receiving the notice in an effort to help those struggling with any of this. If this isn’t important to you, skip down a little to see what we’ve been working on since gaining legal status!

Our communication

Good morning Michelle! I got your message. I hope this is the right email. We figured out the phone service I switched to is very spotty in Boise so my apologies for not being able to answer when you called. We are heading back up to Moscow and I would love to set up an appointment to talk through some questions/ideas I have re our parcel. We take every precaution but we’d like to have 7 days to quarantine just to make sure no Covid symptoms show up before meeting. Do you have time late next week or so that we can set up an appointment to chat?

In the meantime, I have forwarded along all of the communication I have had between various folks in your department over the years (below). Just to summarize though: We are completely aware that we are not to be living in the tiny house for more than 6 months in any 12 month period, that is completely workable for us, (we travel and have a house in Boise where we stay when not here). We are marking our days in a calendar to assure we stay within that bound while also trying to get some groundwork done up here for our future plans, roads, and such… We actually didn’t plan on being up here just yet this summer but Covid made us put a stop to the plans we did have so we came up here to work instead. As the second wave approaches we’re taking the notice from Eric as a potential door to open and see if there is a way we can find to be permitted to live in the tiny house year-round, or at least through this winter because of the pandemic? We see it as a much better option than going back and forth with a virus raging on, particularly after seeing how Boise is (not) addressing spreading concerns.

So, we have a tiny house that we moved up late last fall. I’ll note that the tiny house will not be our forever home on this property, eventually (3-4 years) we plan to build a mid-sized ground bound house. It is legally classified as an RV but it is built to IRC standards (my partner is a licensed architect, I have a master’s degree and a lot of experience working in the field). We’re not asking for any exceptions, but maybe there is a path forward that can work for the county? We know tiny houses are an odd topic. We’ve lived tiny in some form or fashion for the last 8 years and literally helped write and pass the IRC code appendix through the International Code Council as well as pushing it through for early adoption at the state level in Idaho. I would personally love to retain the ‘tiny house’ status instead of converting it to a ground bound structure but I am open to whatever makes most sense (assuming anything does). We were wondering if a Conditional Use Permit for the winter is an option?

I appreciate your time, please let me know if you have a space for a meeting after the 8th! Thank you!

In a matter of minutes this is what I heard back:

Hi Macy, Thanks for the email. Last week the Planner and I discussed your situation and think we have a solution for you. Coincidentally, it is one of the solutions that you offered.

We think the best way to address your situation is to have you apply for a conditional use permit for a one spot RV park.

While I understand your questioning the idea of an RV park, don’t let the name mislead you. There is no minimum to the number of RV spots in an RV park in the County and we are finding this is an effective way to allow longer-term use of one or more RVs on a property.

The issuance of a C.U.P. allows us to track and monitor RV sites, just like home sites, and helps us to immediately address any issues that we would typically address as part of the building permit or manufactured home placement process (C.U.P. process in lieu of a building permit). We also believe allowing as few as one in a “park” addresses some of the affordable and available housing concerns in our Comprehensive Plan.  It actually is a simple way to allow the Zoning Commission and staff to address many of the issues that come along with people living in an RV longer term, such as septic, garbage disposal, access to the property, driveway standards, addressing, etc..

The application is relatively easy and if approved could allow you to continue living on the property whenever you want until you can do something more permanent.

Establishing a manufactured home park (which would require a rezone, a boundary survey, and a very long list of requirements) is far more arduous. We would not recommend going this route unless you wanted to place manufactured homes on your property and establish a multi-lot manufactured home park.

You will need to work with Mauri Knott to make application for the conditional use permit. I have copied her on this email.  She will contact you to get you the links and/or documents that you will need to apply.

Also, we modified our ordinance over two years ago to allow spots in mobile home parks in the County to be converted to RV spots. We have only had one manufactured park owner take advantage of this. We are considering increasing the number of spots that can be converted for our next ordinance modifications.

If you still wish to meet, let me know.  Our office is currently closed to the public, but I am happy to email, talk over the phone, meet via zoom or have properly socially distanced mask-wearing meeting with you either in the courthouse or outside the courthouse at the picnic table. I am available most days at varying times.

I filled out the C.U.P. application and submitted it with $300. They made mention of my having experience in architecture because I didn’t just submit napkin drawings, which they would have gladly accepted. I partook in a Zoom style Planning and Zoning meeting. One of the five participants was hesitant to allow us but the other four easily convinced him it wasn’t a big deal. I didn’t even have to say much but ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’.

As a part of the CUP, we are putting in a septic system. Unfortunately, it was so late in summer and we had so much to do to get ready for winter that we didn’t get a chance to put it in before the weather turned. We figured we can survive the winter without septic (we have a year to put it in), we can’t survive the winter without water! So we got to work building our winter shed to store 900 gallons of water. We will get to work on the septic as soon as the ground thaws out. We’ve already got the size and location approved with the health department. It will also be able to be used for our eventual ground-bound house up the hill.

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

The church rarely holds service and is instead a museum open for the public to visit.

The Alexander Garden

  • The park is open every day and has no entrance fee

The Alexander Garden was one of the first urban public parks in Moscow! The garden premiered in 1821 and was built to celebrate Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s forces in 1812!

The park is beautiful and well maintained with paths to walk on and benches to rest on. The park contains three separate gardens: the upper garden, middle garden, and lower garden.

The Alexander Garden

Located in the upper garden, towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. This monument was created in 1967 and contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War!

The park stretches along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for about half a mile. Due to its central location in the city, it’ll be easily accessible when you’re out exploring The Red Square.

It provides a bit of relief from the city’s high-energy city streets. Bring a picnic lunch, go for a walk, or just sit and people watch, this is one of the best Moscow sites to wind-down and relax!

Ostankino Television Tower

The museum also has a neat little screening room that plays old Soviet cartoons and an area with Soviet magazines! This unique attraction is a fun addition to a 3 day itinerary in Moscow, and an attraction that all ages will enjoy!

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .
