Thank you so much for this. I have been trying like crazy to find out where some of the beautiful forest and fountain scenes were filmed, especially the scenery when they're up in the tree. You're page is the best. Both Oregon and Washington are gorgeous, and I hope I can visit both soneday.

Screen Rant

10 filming locations from the twilight saga you can actually visit.

The Twilight Saga features some of the most beautiful scenery in the Pacific Northwest. This creates the perfect map for a Twilight road trip!

After Netflix added all the Twilight films onto the streaming service and inadvertently caused a Twilight Renaissance, the aesthetic from the films has become increasingly desirable. The dream of moving to a small town in the Pacific Northwest is becoming more and more popular.

RELATED: What Your Favorite Twilight Character Says About You

Luckily for the fans, there is one way to make this dream come true: filming locations. Not everyone can move to Oregon, but visiting the various filming locations from the Twilight saga will definitely bring the aesthetic to life.

Bridge To Forks

In the opening sequence of Twilight,  Charlie and Bella drive over a huge bridge on their way to Forks. The opening sequence is a beautiful arrangement of fly-over shots of the Washington landscape, all set to the soothing banjo of "Full Moon" by The Black Ghosts.

If fans want to experience this part of the film they should make their way to the Bridge of the Gods in Washington. According to the Port of Cascade Locks website, the bridge is a toll bridge that operates 24/7. It is free to walk across, so fans can live their Twilight dreams.

The Swan House

One of the most iconic locations is, of course, Bella's house. This is where Bella and Edward's iconic first kiss happens , where she suffers from nightmares in New Moon , and where Riley breaks in to get Bella's scent in  Eclipse . Luckily for fans, the house is actually available to rent on  Airbnb .

The house isn't actually in Forks, WA, but instead in St. Helens, OR. It is decorated exactly as seen in the movies with the added bonus of life-size cardboard cutouts of Bella, Edward, and Jacob. Unfortunately, the house is currently booked through September 2024! But don't worry, fans can still take pictures in front of the house, as long as they are respectful.

Forks High School

Of course, a good portion of the saga takes place at Forks High School. This is the one place Bella is really forced to live like a normal human, and usually the one place she actually interacts with her human friends.

If fans want to relive the almost-crash from the first film, then they simply need to head over to Kalama High School in Kalama, WA. This school was only used for exterior shots and is a public high school, so fans shouldn't wander in. However, the exterior has plenty to offer for the Catherine Hardwicke aesthetic.

The Forks Cafe is a staple for Bella and Charlie. Charlie has been ordering the same meal there for years, and everyone is so excited to see Bella again that they still remember her order. This is also the location where Stephanie Meyer makes her first cameo.

These scenes were actually filmed at the Carver Cafe in Damascus, OR. It's a quaint, all-American dinner filled with subtle touches from the film. While Bella's classic garden burger isn't on the menu, there are still plenty of other burger options for fans to enjoy as they sit in the very same corner Charlie and Bella often frequented.

La Push Beach

While La Push Beach does exist in the real town of Forks, WA, this isn't where the La Push Beach scenes were filmed. If fans want to visit the location where Bella first learned of werewolves and vampires, they'll have to go to Cannon Beach, OR.

Cannon Beach is home to the beautiful rocks formations seen in the background of many of the beach scenes. There are many Airbnb rentals available in the area, so fans can truly live their Twilight fantasies. Fans can attempt to surf the waves or simply sit on the sand and take in the beautiful scenery.

Forest Scenes

Twilight  is known for the lush forests it was filmed in. Bella first confronts Edward about being a vampire while surrounded by giant moss-covered trees. It's also in these woods that Jasper assesses the Cullen's fighting abilities in Eclipse .

Fans can explore these beautiful forests in Silver Falls State Park in Oregon. Silver Falls is the largest state park in Oregon and has a host of different activities. There are many different waterfalls and trails to take part in and campgrounds to spend the night at.

The Cullen House

The Cullen house is the one place where the Cullen's don't have to pretend to be human. When Edward first brings Bella home, she is expecting a dark, stereotypical dungeon, but what she gets instead is an open, modern home. The house has huge windows to allow the sunlight in, and many rooms to accommodate the vast interests of the Cullens.

The house used for filming can be found at 3333 NW Quimby Street, Portland, OR. This is a private residence, so fans should refrain from attempting to entering the property. However, there are beautiful views of the home from the public road.

The Baseball Field

Twilight  has one of the most iconic scenes in the entire saga: the baseball scene. Set to the iconic song "Supermassive Black Hole" by Muse, the scene showcases just how powerful vampires really are, as the Cullen's hit baseballs so hard the sound is akin to thunder.

If fans want to try out Jasper's impressive bat trick, they should head over to The Shire in the Columbia River Gorge in Washington. According to the John Yeon Center for Architecture and the Landscape , The Shire is a series of meadows and walking paths backed up against the beautiful Multnomah Falls. Surrounded by trees and overlooking a waterfall, fans will really feel like a part of the Cullen family.

New Moon sees Bella, Edward, and Alice travel outside of the Pacific Northwest all the way to Italy. The town of Volterra houses the powerful Volturi. Fans get a glimpse of the beautiful city when Bella is forced to run through large crowds in order to stop Edward from exposing himself as a vampire.

Fans can visit the city themselves by traveling to Montepulciano in Tuscany, Italy. The town sits high atop a hill, overlooking beautiful wine vineyards. According to Discovery Tuscany , fans can visit various medieval palaces and churches in the town. Just try not to run into any vampires!

In  Breaking Dawn Part One , Bella and Edward honeymoon on Isle Esme, an island Carlisle owns. While the island itself may not actually exist, fans can see the house it was filmed at. Casa Em Paraty is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and can be rented.

The house has all the beautiful amenities fans see in the movie, including an infinity pool and bedrooms that open to the tropical air. While it's no doubt a little pricey, Casa Em Paraty is the ultimate destination to round out any  Twilight road trip.

A Self-Guided Twilight Tour in Forks, WA

If you’re a fan of Twilight and want to relive your favorite moments from the epic saga, embarking on a self-guided Twilight tour in Forks, WA is the best way to experience it.

The City of Forks Welcomes you sign.

When Twilight premiered in 2008, I was immediately hooked. After the first movie was released, I quickly devoured the book series and became obsessed with all things Twilight. The books, the movies, the merchandise, and all of Washington. I dreamed of seeing Forks and wandering through a green forest with a sparkly vampire. It was a difficult time in my young adult life, and I'm forever grateful for the story that helped get me through that period. Eventually, the Twilight craze died down, but I still hoped to one day visit the places in the series that had brought me so much joy for years.

Finally, in the summer of 2022, I decided to make that dream a reality. As part of a larger Washington trip after hiking in Mt. Rainier NP , I would then visit all the places I’d read and re-read about on the Olympic coast. I’d see the beaches of La Push, stand in the rainy town of Forks, and trek through the vibrant green forests. Since there wasn’t an official Twilight tour to take, I created my own tour and am glad I did. There’s so much to see and do here, that with a self-guided tour, I was able to pick and choose what worked best for me while making all my Twilight dreams come true.

Things to Know Before Visiting Forks

Forever twilight in forks festival.

Every September the town of Forks hosts the Forever Twilight in Forks Festival. This four-day festival celebrates all things Twilight in an event dedicated to the fans. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy with auctions, costume contests, and parties, to name a few. Best of all, different actors from the Twilight Saga attend each year, where fans can take part in panels, photo-ops, and autographs. Different events throughout the festival require tickets, so make sure to purchase them beforehand. One day I’ll return to Forks, Washington just to go to the festival!

How Long to Spend in Forks

Touring all the Twilight spots in Forks, and the surrounding beaches, won’t take more than a day. Although, if you plan to visit Port Angeles, and many of the amazing locations across Olympic National Park, try to add at least one to two additional days to your trip. I recommend staying at least overnight in Forks for a more in-depth experience or in Olympic National Park for scenic views and a shorter drive. Staying in Port Angeles, which also plays a key location in the Twilight Saga is another viable option.

Where was Twilight Filmed

It’s important to point out that you won’t have the opportunity to visit any filming locations for the movies in Forks. The majority of the first Twilight movie was filmed in Oregon, while the sequels were mostly filmed across British Columbia, including beach scenes on Vancouver Island . Nevertheless, on this tour, you’ll visit the real-life places described in the books and named in the movies. It's an amazing experience for fans, and this area of Washington is stunning to visit even without the Twilight references!

Spruce Nature Trail Hoh Rain Forest.

When to Visit and Weather

While you most likely won’t find sky-high snow and blistering cold in Forks and this section of Olympic NP, you will experience plenty of rainfall. Forks is one of the wettest places in the continental United States with up to 119” of rainfall a year and an average of 206 rainy days. No wonder the Cullen’s stayed in Forks so long! Temperatures are pretty mild throughout the year, but one can generally expect to find at least some precipitation and fog.

Summer is the most popular time to visit, and is considered the peak season. Expect more crowds, but warmer temperatures and less rainfall. During fall, the forests transform with lovely autumn colors, but precipitation will increase as this is when the rainy season begins. Winter is the wettest time of year, and snow can occur, but there are also fewer visitors. In spring, temperatures will rise, and rainfall will decrease, but it's still off-season for crowds.

If you’re visiting the National Park, please remember that the weather is unpredictable in any season. Always check the National Park website for weather conditions before visiting the beaches or forests.

How to Get To Forks

If you’re driving from Seattle or Portland, buckle up for a long but beautiful drive. It’ll take approximately 4 hours to reach Forks from Seattle, and 4-5 hours from Portland. There are several ways to get to Forks depending on where you want to start your tour. From Seattle, you can begin your self-guided tour with Port Angeles using the Bainbridge ferry. Or you can drive around it along the Pacific coast, starting with the National Park spots and Forks. For my tour, I chose the latter as I wanted a shorter drive back to Seattle, but either way works.

A Self-guided Twilight Tour in Forks, WA

Pose with the forks sign and bella’s truck.

If you can only make one stop in Forks, this should be it. It’s essentially a three-for-one destination: the Forks town sign, Bella’s truck, and a Twilight souvenir shop. They’re all located at the Forks Chamber of Commerce, which is easy enough to plug into Google maps.

The Welcome to Forks sign is directly in front of the parking lot so it makes for the perfect photo opportunity to pay tribute to our favorite Twilight town. Conveniently, the easily recognizable vintage red truck is in the parking lot behind the welcome sign. It’s an accurate replica of Bella's truck and has Bella written on the license plate.

Location: 1411 S Forks Ave, Forks, WA 98331

Check Out Forever Twilight in Forks Collection

Right up the road from the Forks Chamber of Commerce is the Forever Twilight Collection. This is a free exhibit where fans can see costumes and props from the movie saga. There are also fan-made items and memorabilia with a few photo ops, which any Twihard fan can enjoy.

Opening hours vary depending on the season. In winter, they’re open Fridays and Saturdays from 12 -4 pm. In summer, they’re open from Thursday - Monday from 12 - 4 pm. You can also find the Native to Twilight store across the street that offers plenty of Twilight souvenir options.

Location: 11 N Forks Ave, Forks, WA 98331

Walk Along the La Push Beaches

“La Push baby. It’s La Push.”

Though the iconic movie scenes didn’t film in La Push, instead it was filmed at Cannon Beach in Oregon, you can visit the real La Push on a self-guided tour of Forks. The beaches are similar in appearance, and La Push is not only a part of the first two books and movies in the saga but also a beautiful location to explore. La Push is approximately a 20-minute drive from Forks, making it a great next destination after touring the town.

La Push has a series of three beaches appropriately named First, Second, and Third Beach, next to the La Push community. First Beach is part of the Quileute nation, and Second and Third Beach are within Olympic NP. Stephanie Meyer never specified which La Push beach Bella visits in Twilight, but of the three, I opted to visit Second Beach as it closely resembled the beach seen in the first Twilight movie.

Second Beach La Push.

However, I should mention that First Beach is the most accessible of the three, whereas Second Beach requires more of a trek. Getting to Second Beach is an easy 2-mile out and back hike that any age and fitness level can complete. The path is flat and passes through a breathtaking forest. With the lush greenery, towering trees, and moss-covered wood, it feels like you’re in a scene right out of Twilight. Please be aware that La Push and First Beach are part of the tribe nation and to be respectful of their land.

Location: (Second Beach parking lot) Olympic Discovery Trail, La Push, WA 98350

Stay at the Swan House

On your tour of Forks, not only can you see the house that inspired Bella and Charlie’s home, but you can stay there as well. The owners welcome travelers to stop and take photos in front of the house even if they aren’t staying at the property. It’s a charming farmhouse built in the early 1900s and available to rent on Airbnb. Even if you don’t plan on renting the home, it’s a fun stop to make for pictures. I might have been team Edward as a girl, but now I’m without question in the team Charlie camp so this was extra fun for me.

Location: 775 K St, Forks, WA 98331

Or Stay at Jacob Black’s House

“Where the hell have you been, loca?”

Oh, Jacob. As I've said, though I spent my young adult years firmly on the side of team Edward, my appreciation of the loyal werewolf never wavered. This vacation rental looks identical to Jacob’s home seen clearly in New Moon. With its unique bright red exterior, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported into the Twilight universe. Like Bella’s home, it’s worth a visit even if you don’t plan on making accommodations there, especially if you were/are team Jacob.

Location: 8320 La Push Rd, Forks, WA 98331

Book a Room at the Cullen House

The Miller Tree Inn is a beautiful Bed and Breakfast farmhouse built in the early 1900s. The inn, which is named the “Cullen House” in Forks, offers a stay in a historic setting with modern amenities and amazing breakfasts served each morning. Despite it bearing no resemblance to the sleek home shown in the movies, its appearance is accurate to the description Stephanie Meyer writes of the Cullen’s home in the books.

Best of all the Cullen house has a replica of the graduation caps artwork seen in the Twilight movies and an office for Dr. Carlisle Cullen. Between the delicious breakfasts, cozy rooms, and Twilight settings, what’s not to love?

Location: 654 E Division St, Forks, WA 98331

See the Treaty Line

Another quick stop on your self-guided Twilight tour is seeing the Treaty line, on the way from Forks to La Push. The long-standing treaty between the Cullen family and the werewolf tribe plays a pivotal role in the Twilight Saga, and to see where that line between them would be is a cool experience for all the Twihard fans out there.

The sign is on the side of La Push road, so you’ll want to park in the spacious lot next to it by 3 Rivers Resort and walk over to it. There’s a different image on each side of the sign, creating two equally fun photo opportunities any fan can appreciate. One side reads, “No Vampires Beyond This Point.” with the image of a howling wolf. The other side says, “Welcome Twilight Fans.”

Location: 7760 La Push Rd, Forks, WA 98331

Hike Rialto Beach

While Rialto Beach isn’t technically part of the Twilight Saga, it is an unmissable spot in the area. The beach is less than a 20-minute drive from La Push with a big parking lot, making it an easy add-on to your Forks tour. When I think of the atmosphere in the series, I imagine thick fog, a muted grey sky above a crashing dark sea, and emerald green forestry. Rialto Beach delivers on all of that and more. You’ll also find unique sea stacks and otherworldly driftwood smattered across this rugged coast.

Driftwood on Rialto Beach.

One of the reasons this particular beach is so popular is due to the eye-catching and photogenic arch known as the Hole in the Wall. Fair warning this is a 3.3-mile out-and-back moderate hike , and to see the hole is wholly dependent on if the tides are low. I attempted the trek and did glimpse it in the distance, but my screaming legs, unfortunately, forced me to turn around. Still, I loved all the Twilight vibes of this beach in Olympic NP.

Location: Mora Rd, Forks, WA 98331

Rialto Beach in Olympic National Park.

Stop by Dr. Cullen’s Parking Spot

Dr. Carlisle Cullen, the wise and patient doctor that always supported and loved his adopted family, has his own parking spot at the Forks Community Hospital. This spot is a fun homage to our favorite vampire dad with a cute sign for pictures. The sign reads, “Dr. Cullen Vampire Parking Only.” You can find it near the administration building at the hospital.

Location: 530 Bogachiel Way, Forks, WA 98331

Go View Forks High School

Admittedly, even though I consider myself a lifelong Twihard fan, this is one spot that I skipped. The school isn't out of the way, and it’s an easy stop along your self-guided tour, but I chose not to pay a visit. For me even though the school plays a huge part in the Twilight Saga, it felt weird to take pictures of a normal school. But that’s just me! There’s no actual Twilight reference here to see, and the school filmed in the movies is Kalama High School in Kalama, WA, but you can go view the outside of Forks High School.

Location: 261 Spartan Ave, Forks, WA 98331

Drop by the Forks Police Station

Like Forks High, the Police station is a functioning place of operation in the town, and you, unfortunately, won’t find any direct Twilight mention here. Once upon a time, there was a tribute to Chief Swan, but as the hype died down they eventually removed it. It’s still interesting to quickly check out if you’re a Charlie fan like me.

Location: 500 East Division Street, Forks, WA

Wander Through the Hoh Rain Forest

“You better hold on tight spider monkey.”

Though it’s one of the most cringy lines uttered in the Twilight movies, I love the scene itself. All the intense greenery of the forest Edward jumps through is enchanting. The Hoh Rain Forest, which technically is located in Forks, is in my opinion, the most beautiful part of Olympic National Park and is reminiscent of that Twilight scene. This is where I started my self-guided tour in the very early morning hours of the day to avoid crowds, before driving to Forks. It’s somewhat out of the way, the visitor center is approximately 45 minutes from Forks but it’s well worth the effort to get to.

Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park.

Hoh Rain Forest feels like landing on another planet. One created of an old-growth forest, waking beneath a canopy of towering trees, and where every square inch is covered in bright green moss and ferns. It’s a serenely quiet world of varying shades of emerald. Once there, check out these two easy hikes: Hall of Mosses which is a 1.1-mile loop trail , and Spruce Nature Trail that’s a 1.4-mile loop .

As this is a National Park, you’ll either need an America the Beautiful annual park pass ($80) or pay the $30 entrance fee. This section of Olympic NP also draws some of the most visitors. Consider coming in the early morning and avoiding weekends and holidays if possible.

Location: 18113 Upper Hoh Rd, Forks, WA 98331

Arch in Hoh Rain Forest.

Visit Port Angeles

It wouldn’t be a true Twilight-inspired tour if the town of Port Angeles weren’t included on this list. Depending on your preference, you can either begin or end your trip with Port Angeles. I chose to end with it as I preferred the shorter drive back to Seattle, which took around two and a half hours.

In Twilight, Port Angeles is where Bella went prom dress shopping, which she ultimately ditched for a bookstore, and then got lost. This leads to Edward coming to save her from a group of threatening men, and the soon-to-be couple then goes on their first date. While the dress shop and bookstore don’t exist in real life, Port Angeles has a beautiful downtown shopping scene by the waterfront. You’ll find plenty of boutique shops, galleries, and museums. If there’s time, consider taking a whale-watching tour, which is one of the top-rated activities in the area.

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat when visiting Port Angeles, then you must dine at Bella Italia. This is the same restaurant where Bella and Edward had their memorable first date. While dining there make sure to try Bella’s Mushroom Ravioli for the ultimate Twilight experience, as that’s the exact dish Bella orders on her date.

Location: (Bella Italia) 118 E 1st St, Port Angeles, WA 98362

Where to Stay

Apart from the accommodations already mentioned in this post, there are plenty of other hotels and Airbnb's in Forks and the surrounding areas to choose from. However, if you’re traveling during peak season in summer, remember to make reservations early. This is a popular tourist destination, especially for Olympic National Park, and rooms can be booked up months in advance.

Hotels in Forks, WA

1. Pacific Inn Motel

This no-fuss reasonably priced lodging in Forks has modern rooms with comfortable amenities. The big draw is the Twilight-themed room. It has Twilight movie posters, red and black walls, and vampire-themed decor. Reservations for this room fill quickly, so the earlier you book, the better.

2. Olympic Suites Inn

These are spacious and comfortable rooms right in the heart of Forks. The inn is affordable, and it’s in a convenient location for anyone on a self-guided Twilight tour.

3. Quileute Oceanside Resort

The Quileute tribe is pivotal to this area of the Pacific Northwest. They're also important to Stephanie Meyer’s series, since our favorite wolf, Jacob Black, is part of the tribe. The resort is part of the real Quileute Nation’s land, that's filled with rich history and culture. Though not technically in Forks, the resort is a 20-minute drive away. They provide oceanfront cabins and units, a campground, and RV parks next to the stunning Pacific Northwest beaches. In fact, it’s steps away from La Push’s First Beach.

Hotels in Olympic National Park

1. Rain Forest Resort Village

This quaint resort is a little over an hour's drive from Forks. I opted to stay here during my Twilight tour since I wanted to start with the Hoh Rain Forest early in the morning. Plus, they offer affordable rooms with scenic lake views. My favorite part of staying here is that they’re located next to the world's largest Sitka Spruce tree. If you have extra time there are some amazing trails nearby as well.

World's largest Sitka Spruce tree.

2. Lake Quinault Lodge

This lakeside lodge found down the road from the Rain Forest Resort is also a beautiful place to stay. They have awe-inspiring lake views, fireplace rooms, and a restaurant on site. This is the more popular of the two lodgings, so prepare to book early to stay here.

3. Kalaloch Lodge

Whether you prefer to book the main lodge, one of their cozy cabins, or the secluded house tucked further back, a stay at Kalaloch Lodge is both comfortable and convenient. With direct access to Olympic National Park beaches and within driving distance of all the major must-see Twilight and National Park destinations, this is a perfect place to have as your base spot. It’s also one of the most popular accommodations in the area. Reservations should be booked months in advance to secure your stay.

4. Lake Crescent Lodge

One of the most stunning lakes in Olympic NP is Lake Crescent, and there’s a rustic lodge you can stay at right on the lake. Lake Crescent Lodge is located near Port Angeles, about a 30-minute drive away, making it an ideal choice if you plan to end your tour in the town. It’s open seasonally, from late spring to mid-fall, but like many accommodations in the National Park, it books up quickly. If you want gorgeous lake views in a serene location without any modern distractions like television, the Lake Crescent Lodge is a great option.

Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park.

Other Olympic National Park Spots Near Forks

If you’re visiting Washington for a Twilight tour and time permits, then you should extend your stay to experience more of the magnificent Olympic National Park. A few of the places already mentioned, like Rialto Beach and Hoh Rain Forest are part of the National Park, but there’s so much more to see and do. These are some of the highlights in the National Park, and all are within driving distance from Forks.

Ruby Beach is often referred to as the jewel of Olympic National Park, and it’s easy to see why. Famous for its dramatic coast with impressive sea stacks, tide pools brimming with sea life during low tide, and unique driftwood sculptures. It’s also easily accessible, and only a 30-minute drive from Forks. Unfortunately, Ruby Beach was closed to the public for construction work when I visited. Despite my disappointment, it gives me a good reason to return!

Lake Crescent

Lake Crescent is a gorgeous lake in the National Park located near Port Angeles. There are numerous activities here ranging from picnic areas, boat launches, and hiking trails. During the summer season, visitors can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards from the Lake Crescent Lodge. The breathtaking Marymere Falls is a short hike from the lake and was one of the highlights of my Washington trip. It’s an easy 1.7-mile out-and-back trek leading to the falls through a lush forest.

Marymere Falls in Olympic National Park.

Hurricane Ridge

Hurricane Ridge is a dramatic change from the remarkable scenery along the Olympic coast, as the National Park transforms into a staggering mountain range. If you plan on visiting Port Angeles, I highly recommend a trip to Hurricane Ridge located 17 miles away. Beyond the epic mountain views seen at the visitor center, Hurricane Ridge is a great spot for hiking. One of the most popular Hurricane Ridge hikes is to Hurricane Hill, a 3.4-mile moderate out-and-back trail that promises jaw-dropping panoramic views of the Olympic region.

The road to Hurricane Ridge is accessible throughout the summer months, but only open Fridays-Sundays during the winter. Cars must also have tire chains in the winter season. The road can close at any time due to weather conditions. Always check the national park website for updates before visiting.

Final Thoughts

Forks, Washington is a destination every Twilight fan has dreamed of visiting. It’s a quaint town with a loving enthusiasm for Twilight and the fan community. The surrounding coastal beaches and otherworldly forests of Olympic National Park are a must-see for their beauty and serenity alone, but also that they give all the vibes of the beloved vampire series. A self-guided Twilight tour of Forks is the perfect way to experience it all in real life.

Huge Twilight fan so this is so cool - awesome pics! Looks gorgeous!

Thank you! It's such an awesome experience for any Twilight fan and the whole area is beautiful!

I love everything about the Olympic Peninsula. We stayed at Kalaloch Lodge when we were there. Thanks for all the great information.

Me too, I can't wait to return one day to stay at the Kalaloch Lodge! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Wow this looks like such a fantastic destination. I don't know about this movie, but the place looks so picturesque..

I recommend the area even with the Twilight references, it's a beautiful destination and National Park to explore!

Love love LOVE this! Fellow Twihard here, definitely have to plan my trip to Forks ASAP!

Twilight forever! You will LOVE Forks!

Love this post! This is so fun. It would be a great girls trip for me and my friend Michele. Thanks for sharing!

Some of the best fun I've had traveling! You'll have a blast!

This is still firmly on my travel bucket list. I devoured all the books when they came out, then went to the movies.

Same for me! It's an incredible experience for Twilight fans, and anyone who enjoys unbelievable scenery!

We are going to Forks in a couple weeks and we are looking for a self guided tour. Is there a recommended order to pack the most in?

That's so exciting, I hope you have the best time! I would recommend starting with the Hoh Rainforest and then making your way through Forks (all of the Twilight stops are close together in town) and finally to the coastal beaches! All of these can easily be done in one day. You can try to squeeze in Port Angeles and Lake Crescent in Olympic NP too but I would say that's better for a second day!

Hi there! This post could not be written much better!

Going through this article reminds me of my previous roommate! He always kept preaching about this. I most certainly will forward this post to him. Fairly certain he'll have a great read. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much! I hope your former roommate enjoys it! Forks is an amazing place!

This is exactly what I was looking for !! Thank you for sharing ❤️

I am so glad you found it helpful! I hope you get to visit Forks soon! 🙂

‘Twilight’ Filming Locations That Fans Can Visit

The Twilight Saga is an American vampire-themed romantic fantasy series of five films. They all are distributed by Summit Entertainment. Twilight Saga is an adaptation of the best-selling book series named “Twilight” written by Stephanie Meyer. The series was successful at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics.

The series’ story is from a girl’s perspective. It begins from her way of adjusting to the new life with her father in an unfamiliar town and ends with to what extent she will go to save her family from a bunch of evil vampires.

The unfamiliar, moody, and mysterious town here is the city of Forks in Washington. In the best-selling book series, all the events take place in the Olympic Peninsula.

Not The Real Forks

Except from two significant locations in Washington, no scenes were shot in the actual town of Forks. But, a fun fact, the old red truck that Bella (aka Kristen Stewart) rode is parked in front of the city’s chamber of commerce till now.

Even though the films showed Washington culture in simple things like the references to Red Vines, “Vitamin R,” and various locations around Forks and La Push, most of the filming locations are from Oregon and British Columbia.

Where was ‘Twilight’ Filmed?

Here are the 13 most popular locations from the films you can visit.

Clackamas Community College

This college is the film location of Bella and her classmate’s field trip for the greenhouse in the first installment of the series,  Twilight . The greenhouse in the college is the same as the day it was in the film. It is a public community college with an enormous horticulture program and many greenhouses around the campus.

Address: 19600 Molalla Avenue, Oregon City, OR, USA

Forks High School

The first filmmakers used two schools – Kalama High School and Madison High School – to shoot the scenes in Forks High School. The breakthrough scene when Edward (aka Robert Pattinson) saves Bella’s life in the parking lot and the exterior scenes of the home of Spartans were filmed at Kalama High School, Kalama, Washington. The cafeteria scenes were shot at Madison High School, Portland.

After the first one, the makers moved their location to Vancouver, the B.C. area. They used David Thompson Secondary School for the second installment,  New Moon,  and Como Lake Middle School to shoot the graduation scene in the school gym for  Eclipse , the third installment.

Indian Beach

Bella’s friends’ surfing scene on the La Push beach was shot in Cannon Beach in Oregon. This is where Jacob (aka Taylor Lautner) tells Bella about the Quileute legends about the history of wolves and the “cold ones.” The Incinerator Rock in Long beach, B.C., was then used as the Quileute reservation beach for  New Moon.

Address: 84318 Ecola State Park Road, Seaside, Cannon Beach, OR, USA

Vernonia, Oregon

Wauna Federal Credit Union in Vernonia, Oregon, served as the Forks Police Station in all the films of the series. We all can say that Vernonia was the official “Forks” in the Twilight Saga, as most of the scenes were filmed around there – when Edward and Bella return to town from Port Angeles, the scene at the road next to the building. Another scene when Bella requests Edward to pull into the police station, and he did – was also shot in the side street.

Plus, the house where Bella and her father live was also located at 184 South 6th street by the Washington border in Saint Helens and about 20 miles east of Vernonia.

View Point Inn

The View Point Inn is where the whole “Casino Monte Carlo” prom scene was filmed. It was a 1924 classic boutique hotel located 22 miles from downtown Portland, Oregon. During a fire accident in 2011, the View Point Inn building was damaged and was not revived due to a lack of funds.

Address: 40301 E Larch Mountain Rd, Corbett, OR, USA

Bloated Toad Restaurant

The crew used a restaurant building to shoot the scene when Bella and Edward would go for not-dinner dinner after Edward rescued her. This building is now empty, but the structure is the same as shown in the film though. You can even imagine the scenes involving the sidewalk and stairs with the couple.

Address: 330 S. 1st Street, St. Helens, Oregon

Paramount and Ridge Theatre

Paramount Theatre was used for the scene in which Bella, Jacob, Mike Newton stand in front of a theatre talking to each other before seeing the movie Face Punch. This place is also used in the scene when Bella hops on for a short ride with a motorcyclist right before she and Jessica walk out of the theatre.

Address: 652 Columbia Street, New Westminster, BC

There are interior theatre scenes in  New Moon  where Bella, Jacob, and Mike will be watching the movie Face Punch. Ridge Theatre is the location used to shoot the scene. You can recognize the front doors to the main theatre from the scene where Jacob and Bella come out of the foyer. They will sit on the steps, and later, Mike joins them.

Address: 3113 Arbutus Street, Vancouver, BC

Forks Bridge

You would have seen Bella and her father Charlie (aka Billy Burke) driving across a long bridge with a board at the end saying “The City of Forks Welcomes You” at the very beginning of the first film. But, you cannot find the bridge near Forks. Its real name is The Bridge of Gods which crosses the Columbia River and stretches over the Washington and Oregon Border.

Carver Cafe

The Forks diner was Carver Cafe which plays a part in the movies as “The Lodge,” just as mentioned in the book. The Carver Cafe was opened in the late 50s and is still open and very active.

Address: 16471 OR-224, Damascus, OR, USA

St. Helens, Oregon

St. Helen is the land of various shops in Port Angeles, Washington. One of the shops is an angel hair salon which was transformed into a Petite Jolie dress shop to film the scene involving Bella and her friends choosing prom dresses. If you look at the shop window, you would see the St. Helens city hall.

And that is when Bella opts to Thunderbird and Whale Bookstore, which has several books stacked on the shelves to the ceiling and continues to the front porch too. Bella would buy the book about the Quileute tribe and their legends here.

This place is also called Halloweentown because the Disney Channel Original film was filmed in this place.

Columbia River Gorge

Did you like the Vampire Baseball scene in  Twilight ? This place is the one used in that scene. The Cullen family playing thunder baseball with a massive rainfall in the background was a good scene to see. Well, the credit goes to this location. Washington is known for its fantastic waterfalls, and Oregon’s Multnomah Falls from this Gorge was the one used to film it.

Address: Hood River, OR, USA

Silver Falls State Park

At the beginning of  the Twilight  movie, there was a moment in a thick forest where a deer was being chased and hunted. That scene was actually filmed at this Park. The crew also shot scenes with Edward and Bella on the treetops there. The Park is about 20 miles from Salem, Oregon.

Address: 20024 Silver Falls Hwy SE, Sublimity, OR, USA

Cullen House

The breathtaking Cullen house is a private residence. The directors shot most of the scenes involving the Cullen family. This M1 residence is a dungeon, moat, and coffin-free one. The cantilever glass and wood infrastructure were designed by Skylab Architects in Forest Park, Portland. The reel Cullen house goes by the real name Hoke House.

Address: 3333 NW Quimby St., Portland, Oregon

Coquitlam, British Columbia

The scenes involving Jacob’s house in La Push, Washington, were filmed in Coquitlam, a suburb in Vancouver. The house was painted in red to match up with information provided in the book. It is a private residence located on a corner lot in Victoria Drive, Gilley’s Trail, and Quarry Road.

Also, many exterior scenes from  Eclipse  were shot in Minnekhada Regional Park, further along, the road.

Squamish, British Columbia

This location was used to shoot the rock climbing scenes from Breaking Dawn – Part 2. The granite cliff is located in Stawamus Chief Provincial Park, which is in the outskirts of Squamish.

The crew had to set up the whole Cullen house near Squamish. The wedding ceremony and reception of Edward and Bella, the farewell scene, and many other outdoor scenes from Breaking Dawn movies were shot in this house.

Ballet Studio

This studio was the Mimi’s School of Dance, Scottsdale, Arizona, where James ambushed Bella Swan.

Address: 800 SE 10th Avenue, Portland, OR, USA

There are some other filming locations such as Blue Heron Paper Mill, Olde Towne District, Port Moody in British Columbia, and many more. The whole series focused on different species – vampires, wolves, and humans. Stephanie Meyer was appreciated for a great interpretation of her creativity with what vampires and wolves will be like. The film locations were shown slightly differently according to the species who will be in the scenes. As a Twilight fan, you would be willing to see the places shown in The Twilight Saga, and trust me – the locations won’t disappoint you.

TWILIGHT FILMING LOCATION Twilight Baseball Field

The Baseball Field lies within The Shire and is now covered in tall grasses and hay. The trees surrounding it are full of foliage in shades of green and brown. It’s a beautiful site and much larger than it looks in the movie. The field lies along the river with a large grass area that separates the field and the river. From Multnomah Falls you can view the green grass, but its difficult to see beyond to the field. Within the field stands the huge tree that Emmett jumps up through to catch a ball. There is also the wooded area behind the field that Edward runs into to retrieve a ball. Off to the rear back corner area is a clearing where the Nomads enter through. Bella and Edward also leave through this area in the jeep. The Baseball game is one of my favorite move scenes and I love the music by Muse. “It’s Time”

A deep dive into the iconic baseball scene from 'Twilight' with the cast and crew, 12 years later

  • "Twilight," released on November 21, 2008, was based on a novel written by Stephenie Meyer.
  • In honor of the movie's 12th anniversary, director Catherine Hardwicke and star Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale) spoke to Insider about how the movie's iconic, frequently-referenced vampire baseball scene came together.
  • They also discussed the "timeless" appeal of "Twilight" and shared their thoughts on why the movie has had a resurgence in popularity recently.

Insider Today

When the big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's fantasy novel "Twilight" hit theaters on November 21, 2008, no one could have predicted the magnitude of the movie's global popularity — or the enduring prominence of its vampire baseball scene in pop culture.

In honor of the film's 12th anniversary, Insider spoke with director Catherine Hardwicke and star Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale) to break down the making of the often-referenced baseball scene, the resurgence of the movie's popularity, and the timeless appeal of "Twilight."

'Since when do vampires like baseball?'

That's the question that human Bella Swan ( Kristen Stewart ) asked vampire Edward Cullen ( Robert Pattinson ) after he picked her up to spend an overcast day with his family.

In response, Edward told her that "there's a thunderstorm coming. It's the only time we can play. You'll see why."

In the moments that followed, fans were treated to a baseball sequence, skillfully edited and perfectly set to Muse's "Supermassive Black Hole."

A contrast to the Cullen family's usual brooding and deliberate effort to act normal, the baseball scene was a tonal shift from the rest of the movie. It showed the vampires at their most relaxed and carefree state as they took advantage of their enhanced abilities to play the game before the nomadic vampires intruded.

Although the baseball sequence was only two minutes long, it's become a fan-favorite scene from the movie — and perhaps even the whole "Twilight" saga.

Filming took place in Portland, Oregon during the winter

The scene was filmed near the picturesque Columbia River Gorge with the Multnomah Falls closeby.

"I did think it was about the craziest thing to do, to get to make a vampire baseball sequence," Hardwicke told Insider. "So I was like, 'We've just got to make this as amazing as we can.'"

"It was a stunning location, so you're already inspired," Hardwicke added.

"I remember it being really cold," Reed said, recalling that she and some of her other castmates traveled via a "tiny puddle jumper airplane from LA to Portland."

"It was super chilly and we became this little family very quickly," she said.

Despite the beautiful setting, the weather posed several logistical obstacles — from inconsistent cloud cover to rain. What was supposed to be a four-or-so-day shoot turned into a week and a half on location.

"We were filming in the winter because that's when you have the most overcast," Hardwicke explained. "We couldn't have bright sun because then the vampires would have to sparkle. We didn't want them to be sparkling all the time, we couldn't afford that. CGI sparkling cost a lot of money."

"The weather did not cooperate," the director said. "And you can't have pouring rain [because of] all the makeup drips; the hair. They just don't look like the cool vampires in the pouring rain."

Hardwicke also said that the cast and crew "were freezing out there and since it was this beautiful 360-view of this open field and everything, you couldn't have bathrooms or anything really close."

This resulted in a time-consuming cycle of people drinking hot tea to stay warm, going to the bathroom, and then finally circling back to the field to film.

"We were just scrambling," Hardwicke said, recalling that the cast would shoot other scenes in nearby areas when the weather prevented them from filming the baseball sequence.

Challenges aside, Reed said that making "Twilight" had its own unique charm since it was the only movie in the saga that was filmed in Portland.

"Portland had a kind of magic to it that we could never really recreate," she said. "There was just something really special about it that I can't describe."

Before stepping out on the field, the stars bonded during baseball training sessions

Based on its popularity among fans, the cast and crew knew from the book's blog forums that they had to include the sequence, to which Meyer dedicated a whole chapter.

So the actors spent a significant amount of time rehearsing, taking lessons at an indoor sports arena, and working with a baseball consultant.

Hardwicke said that the stars had varying degrees of familiarity with the game. Jackson Rathbone, who played Jasper Hale in the series, "didn't need any training" because he already had prior experience playing baseball. But for British actor Pattinson, it was all new to him.

"That was a really good bonding experience for all the vampires," the director told us.

Reed described the baseball sequence as a "choreographed dance" and recalled taking a "cat movement class so that we could move our bodies in a way that felt cat-like."

"Every director had a different approach to how we should hold ourselves, carry ourselves, and that was Catherine's approach, which was really cool and interesting," the actress said.

Each member of the Cullen family wore attire that was suited to their personal style

Emmett (Kellan Lutz) wore a sporty velour jumpsuit, Jasper donned a classic raglan shirt, and others wore traditional baseball jerseys.

With costume designer Wendy Chuck and the stars, Hardwicke initially considered outfits that were more space-like, such as puffy silver jackets. Still, they decided to lean into more retro looks, which were stylish and comfortable to wear.

"Catherine has a very kind of youthful spirit and energy, and so we were all dressed in a very hip, youthful way," Reed said.

"I look back now and I think like, 'Oh man, I've kind of grown into myself in so many ways that I feel like if I had played Rosalie now I would have been able to contribute so much more to those areas,'" Reed, who played the character in all five "Twilight" movies, told Insider.

"I was only 19 years old when we started shooting those films, and so I think that I just didn't even have the kind of awareness that I have now," the actress added.

Reed also told Insider that the only piece of memorabilia she has from the "Twilight" saga is from the iconic baseball scene . She scored her baseball shoes, and it was all thanks to Stewart.

"That's because Kristen, who's a dear buddy, took them for me because I just could never take anything from the set because I'm such a rule follower," she told us.

"One day she came back from filming... reshoots or something," Reed recalled, "and she gave me those shoes from the baseball scene. I was like, 'Oh man, this is the best thing ever!' And I still have them."

"I remember Kristen being like, 'This is not a big deal. You can just have your shoes,'" the actress added.

The stars came up with plenty of their characters' lines or actions

Hardwicke worked with cinematographer Elliot Davis, stunt coordinator Andy Chang, and editor Nancy Richardson to bring the scene to life in a way that was just as exciting as what Meyer described in her book.

Technical aspects of the scene were done by the crew, but the actors had the freedom to bring their suggestions to the screen — many of which made the final cut.

Emmett's hype-up motion with his arms before starting the game was Lutz's idea, Rathbone incorporated his own baseball experience into Jasper's effortlessly cool bat twirls, and Peter Facinelli suggested his own character, Carlisle, point his bat as a nod to Babe Ruth.

Alice's graceful pitching, one of the highlights of the sequence, took some time for Ashley Greene to nail.

Related stories

"Ashley, she had to look like she was a damn good pitcher, and that's not that easy," Hardwicke said of the actress. "I think she was there watching and just trying to get it, and finally her stunt double went out and pitched in a way [that] it just clicked. She was like, 'I get it. That's where I need the weight, the arms.'"

In order for Edward to speed across the field and through the woods to get the ball Rosalie hit at the start of the game, Pattinson had to be attached to wires that would pull him.

"Once we got the whole setup set, all the rigging out there on the location, then he had to just practice because he's really running, but he's getting an assist to speed up," Hardwicke explained. "And that's a bit awkward because you have to take a little while to get used to how that feels."

"I remember the first time, it looked so hilarious," she recalled. "And then he started doing it a few more times and got good at it."

Reed also recalled having "a super bruised butt for a long time" after executing Rosalie's slide into home base.

"We had to strap pads to all of our butts and shins and everything," she told us. "But I really commit to stuff like that. I've never been afraid of getting really physical and so I think I just did some really gnarly dives."

And Carlisle's "nice kitty" comment to Rosalie after her intense staredown with Bella, who called her out, was Facinelli's idea.

Emmett and Edward's mid-air clash was a slight departure for the book, which had Carlisle and Jasper colliding on the field. Hardwicke told us that she wanted to play off "the rivalry between the two teams."

Plus, she thought it would be more exciting to see the "alpha" siblings face-off.

To perform the clash, the actors were attached to wires on a rig. Then stunt doubles did the same action with the most impact. The flash of lightning at the exact moment of contact was achieved using VFX.

Hardwicke initially thought it would be fun to have one of the female vampires scale the tree to retrieve the baseball, but chose Lutz instead because he was an "all-around athlete."

The line that ensued from Rosalie, calling Emmett her "monkey man," was the work of Hardwicke and Reed, who brainstormed a few different remarks before settling on that one.

The Cullens' merriment came to an end after they unintentionally attracted the attention of three vampires named Laurent (Edi Gathegi), Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), and James (Cam Gigandet), who had been responsible for a series of murders in Forks.

To film their arrival on the field, the actors walked on a "magic carpet," similar to moving walkways in airports, made of thick plexiglass that could be erased in post-production. The end result made them appear as though they were gliding.

Muse's 'Supermassive Black Hole' ties the whole sequence together

It's hard to imagine any other track being suitable for the baseball scene. Hardwicke told Insider that they "did not ever have another song because we knew how much Stephenie loved Muse."

Meyer, a long-time fan, previously said that the British rock band inspired her writing. So naturally, the film adaptation had to feature at least one Muse track.

Hardwicke told Insider that she actually wanted to get the band on board to do the score for the whole "Twilight" movie.

"I thought it would be cool to use their songs and then they could write the score in between, but they were so busy touring Europe that we couldn't get them," Hardwicke said. "But we were like, we know we can afford at least one song and it's gotta count."

Hardwicke went with the band's track from their 2006 album, "Black Holes and Revelations," written by frontman Matt Bellamy.

Carter Burwell ultimately composed the score for "Twilight" and the soundtrack included a plethora of established bands such as Paramore and Linkin Park. Pattinson also contributed music to the movie.

Still, Muse went on to be featured on the soundtracks for the "Twilight" sequels, "New Moon" and "Eclipse," with their songs "I Belong to You" and "Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)," respectively.

"Catherine has a really unique connection to her music choices and it's always very specific," Reed told us. "Whether you're talking about 'Lords of Dogtown' and 'Thirteen' or any of the films that Catherine has made, I think the music is always a real talking point."

"So obviously she hit it out of the park, pun intended."

No one could have predicted the massive popularity of 'Twilight' at the onset, not even the stars

Pattinson himself previously said he was under the impression "Twilight" would be an indie "Lost Boys"-type film , especially since it was helmed by Hardwicke, who had directed gritty films such as "Thirteen," and starred Stewart, a then-rising actress, who was making waves with performances in thrillers and dramas, including "Panic Room," "Cold Creek Manor," and "Speak."

But "Twilight" became a cultural sensation upon its release, as fans — known as Twihards — around the world waited at events for hours to catch a glimpse of the stars, attended midnight screenings while decked out in movie merchandise, and desperately tried to get their hands on the exact lilac bedsheets (sold at Target) that Bella had in her bedroom.

Reed vividly remembers the moment when she realized the enormity of the movie.

"We knew we were making something cool, but we didn't really know the extent of it until well after we finished filming," the actress recalled. "The moment we realized it was [San Diego] Comic-Con. I remember sitting at home because for the first film, I think only Rob and Kristen were asked to go to Comic-Con and not the whole cast yet."

"And at the time we thought we were just making this relatively small-ish movie," she continued. "It definitely wasn't this blockbuster cultural phenomenon. It was a cool little vampire movie. And then something wild happened."

Reed recalled sitting at home watching the news when she saw "lines of cars and people on the streets, just screaming when they saw Rob get out of his car to walk into the Comic-Con hotel."

"I remember being like, 'Oh my God, it's crazy. It's like he's famous or something," Reed added, laughing at the memory.

Reed said that San Diego Comic-Con, which is arguably the biggest and most well-known convention, felt like a turning point and made potential sequels possible.

"Everybody who makes something that's part of a book series or a trilogy or something, you're always like, 'Hmm, we'd like to make the other ones, but who knows if we will,'" the actress said, noting that the movie's production costs — a relatively modest $37 million — wasn't the kind of budget that reflected a soon-to-be box-office smash.

She continued: "And then I think we realized, 'Wow, we're definitely gonna make another one and maybe even two or three more things."

Now, more than ever, people are feeling nostalgic and turning to 'Twilight'

It's been 12 years since the first film was released and eight years since "Breaking Dawn: Part 2" hit theaters, but people are still rewatching the movies on cable or on streamers such as Amazon Prime Video.

Fans have also taken to social media in recent months to praise the baseball scene in particular.

"We don't talk enough about the impact the baseball scene from 'Twilight' has had on cinema," one person tweeted .

"The 'Twilight' baseball scene gives me serotonin," another wrote .

Reed and Hardwicke have similar theories on why the movie's popularity is so enduring. "There's definitely something about these films that feel very timeless," Reed told us, adding that themes such as love and immortality have been a source of fascination for ages.

"When 'Twilight' came out, it was all about the movie theater experience and there was something very special about that, but I think that there's also something really special about taking something that you love and having it in your home," she added.

And particularly in 2020, a year defined by a pandemic and unrest, it's comforting to watch a movie that was a formative part of your life and spawns fond memories. "I think it's definitely nostalgia because people can remember what they were doing, how everybody went to the opening night and all that, how you dressed up, and how much we fell in love with Edward or Jacob," Hardwicke said.

"But I think also the fact that it's just so romantic."

Where Was ‘Twilight’ Shot?

 of Where Was ‘Twilight’ Shot?

Love it or hate it, there is no denying the popularity or impact of the ‘ Twilight ‘ movies. It started with the release of the original ‘Twilight’ film in 2008, adapted from author Stephanie Meyer’s novel of the same name. Despite being panned by reviewers all over and drawing the ire of many on the internet, the movie was an unabashed commercial success, raking in more than ten times its production budget at the box office, spawning a multi billion dollar franchise, and single-handedly bringing back vampires to the forefront of fantasy once again, albeit in a very different manner compared to the film vampires of old.

The plot of ‘Twilight’ follows Bella Swan, your everyday average high school student who moves from Phoenix, Arizona to the suffocatingly small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father. Though she feels like a bit of a misfit in her new school, she immediately grabs the attention of the freakishly handsome Edward Cullen. As Bella grows closer and closer to Edward and the two become romantically involved, she quickly realizes that there is much more to Edward than she initially thought. The Cullen family is hiding a deep dark secret, something that will change Bella’s life forever.

If you were wondering what are ‘Twilight’ filming locations, read on to find out everything we know.

Where Was Twilight Filmed?

The story line of ‘Twilight’ takes place in a fictionalized version of the town of Forks in Washington. In the movie, Forks is shown to be a rather small town with dodgy weather and impressive forestry. The real Forks is rather similar, with a population of fewer than four thousand people and an economy fuelled by the local timber industry. The ‘Twilight’ films have also significantly raised the city’s profile with an influx of Twilight related tourism.

However, the real shock here is that ‘Twilight’ wasn’t actually filmed in Forks at all. In fact, the first film in the vampire romance saga is largely filmed both on set and on location in and around Portland in Oregon, Washington, and California.

Silver Falls State Park, Silverton, Oregon

Let’s start right at the beginning of the movie – the prologue. A deer is shown trying to frantically escape an unseen hunter, fast and deadly. This particular scene was filmed at the Silver Falls State Park near Silverton, Oregon. This is also the location of the filming of some later scenes in the film; specifically, those involving Edward carrying Bella to the dizzying heights of the treetops.

Silver Falls State Park is the largest state park in the state of Oregon and is famous for its 8.7 mile Canyon Trail, also known as the Trail of Ten Falls for its scenic route featuring ten different waterfalls. The most prominent of these waterfalls is the nearly 180 foot South Falls.

Vernonia, Oregon

The town of Forks, Washington in ‘Twilight’ is represented by the small logging town of Vernonia in Columbia County, Oregon. Various local establishments were also used for filming many of the locations we see in the movie. For example, the Forks Police Station where Bella’s father Charlie works is actually the building of a local bank called Wauna Federal Credit Union in Vernonia.

Much like Forks, Vernonia is also known for its timber producing industry and features a relatively small population of around two thousand. As such, the small town is the ideal stand in for Forks.

Saint Helens, Oregon

The river port town of Saint Helens, Oregon serves as the filming location for many of the scenes in the movie. Charlie and Bella’s house is located on South 6th Street, while the bookstore Bella visits during her research on vampires is actually a private office building located on South 2nd Street.

Other locations where ‘Twilight’ filmed in Saint Helens include 1st Street, where the scene involving Edward saving Bella from some wannabe criminals was shot, as well as the date scene in the Bloated Toad restaurant where Edward reveals some of his abilities to Bella.

Kalama, Washington

While the town of Forks missed out to Vernonia as one of the primary filming locations, the state of Washington did serve as a filming location for Forks High School, which was actually the Kalama Middle/High School in the small town of Kalama in Washington. Initially created for the construction of the Northern Pacific railroad, the town was given in 1871 based on the Native Indian word “calama”, which translates to “pretty maiden”.

Check out these pictures of some of the other ‘Twilight’ filming locations in Washington:

The brief Arizona scenes in ‘Twilight’ were not actually shot in Arizona. In fact, they were actually filmed in Santa Clarita, California, about thirty miles northwest of the city of Los Angeles.

Various Locations Across Oregon

Besides the towns of Vernonia and Saint Helens, many scenes featured in ‘Twilight’ were also filmed in various locations across the state of Oregon. This includes Damascus, which is the location of the Carver cafe where Bella has breakfast; Oregon City, where the field trip scene with Bella and her classmates was filmed, and Northwest Quimby Street in Portland, which is the location of the Cullen house.

Check out these pictures of actress Kristen Stewart while filming in Portland for the film:

Twilight Road Trip: Visiting Forks and La Push

Posted By: Julie Henning July 20, 2018

As reluctant as I am now to admit it, the Twilight Saga  book series by Stephenie Meyer somewhat influenced our decision to relocate to the Pacific Northwest from the Midwest in 2015.

Twilight Movie Scene Locations in Forks, Washington

twilight field trip scene

In the decade since Forks became known around the globe as the rainiest town in America, visitors have sought out the small town where angsty vampires and hormonal werewolves struggled to co-exist around their obsessive friendship with the sheriff’s daughter.

Stop at the Forks Visitor Center

As you can see, I’m not alone in using the opportunity to travel under the guise of young adult fan fiction. This push pin visitor map in the Chamber of Commerce / Visitor Center is mind-boggling, right?

While we were in the area, we did manage to visit some other really great destinations in Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, including the Olympic National Park (read our recommendations in this story ) and Cape Flattery (read about our adventure in this story ).

Not knowing exact demographics on the number of visitors or the impact on the local economy, I can only surmise the people of Forks have greatly benefited from Meyer’s choice of primary story location. In fact, you might expect the local tourism board to capitalize on this steady stream of national and international visitors.

Beyond Bella’s pickup truck (see the feature photo) and a small collection of magnets, bumper stickers, and t-shirts at the at the Chamber of Commerce and some branded gift shops running through the downtown business corridor,  super fans might be disappointed.

Book Your Stay in Forks

Key attractions for twilight fans.

Start at the “official”  Visiting Forks Twilight page and consider printing the point of interest map with key stops from the movie.

As an example, here’s the Swan house:

And the Cullen house (interior shots maybe?):

And a wooden “treaty line” sign near the 110 turnoff to the coastal town of La Push:

La Push doesn’t have much to do or see, but there are various hiking trails leading out to Second Beach (perhaps the highlight of the trip).

Downtown La Push

Overall, if you are making the mecca to Forks for the ultimate Twilight Saga experience, you will likely be disappointed.* If you are on a grand adventure through the Olympic Peninsula and Olympic National Park, by all means, stop and snap a few photographs and go on a few hikes to fully appreciate the natural splendor of the region.

Twilight Movie Road Trip – Quest for Filming Locations in the Northwest

My daughter’s 13th birthday was marked by a “Twilight Movie Road Trip” that was all about finding Twilight movie filming locations. It was so much fun that even my husband had a good time, but don’t let that get out.  I’ve received a lot of questions about our itinerary, so here it is.  Have fun!

Twilight movie filming locations Day 1: Port Angeles, Bella’s house and the exterior School of Dance and Forks High School

We left the Seattle-area Friday afternoon, our first stop was Bella’s house located in St. Helens, Oregon , about 2 hours 45 minutes from Seattle and 40 minutes from Portland. In addition to Bella’s house, the “Port Angeles” scenes were filmed here, which included “Petite Jolie,” the shop where Bella helps Jessica and Angela find their prom dresses, the parking lot where Edward rescued Bella from a group of boys, the Bloated Toad restaurant where Edward revealed his mind-reading abilities, and Thunderbird & Whale bookstore.

As we turned the corner toward Bella’s house , we strained to look up the road, not knowing what to expect. We drove past the house and turned around at the end of the road, then snapped a few photos drive-by style, never getting out of our car. It looked just like it did in the movie, with the exception of a friendly note on the tree in front of the house, reminding us that it is a private residence, not to peek in windows. Visiting a film location like this is a lot different than visiting a studio set; people actually live here, which kind of made us feel like the paparazzi. At first this made us all a little uneasy, but honestly it didn’t take long for us to all really get in to it.

After seeing the Twilight sites in St. Helens, Oregon we retraced our path up to the Lewis and Clark Bridge and crossed back into Washington. Bridges across the Columbia are few and far between, and after doing some research I found that is was indeed faster to double back 30-ish minutes to cross the Columbia River the same way we came to continue to Portland. An added bonus, Kalama High School, used for the outside scenes of Forks High School , was an easy stop right on the way.

With the sun beginning to set, we headed into Portland for our final stop of the day, the site of Mimi’s School of Dance . The scene in Twilight with the final confrontation between Edward and James takes place at the ballet studio from Bella’s childhood.

A few short minutes later we pulled up the Portland Hotel Monaco , our accommodations for the night. The Hotel Monaco is a luxury hotel with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor.  The Monaco is kid-friendly, pet-friendly, and located in the center of Downtown Portland. We found out that the cast of “Twilight” stayed there during the filming of the movie.

Twilight movie filming locations Day 2: Café, prom and Cullen’s house

After a restful night of sleep and a relaxing morning, we were back on the road to our next stop: the Carver Café, where Bella and her dad ate dinner a couple of times. It looked exactly like it did in the movie, but don’t expect to order Charlie’s favorites, those items aren’t on the menu.

Back on the road, we were headed to the View Point Inn, the scene of Bella and Edward’s prom. Unfortunately the View Point Inn had a fire last year, but the stunning views of the Columbia Gorge remain.

After exploring the View Point Inn and some of the Columbia Scenic Highway, we made our way back to Portland to see the Cullen’s house , home to Edward and his vampire family. Driving through the idyllic hillside neighborhood consisting primarily of Craftsman and Old Portland-style homes, the Cullen’s house was a stark contrast with its sleek, modern design. There is a family that lives here, they welcome Twilight fans to take photos, but ask that you stay at the end of their drive way.

Now mid-afternoon, we had enjoyed seeing the sites, but were ready to head to the last destination on our list, and one of our favorite places to visit: Cannon Beach. Located an hour and a half from Portland, Canon Beach is beautiful, relaxing and a welcome way to wrap up our Twilight Road Trip. We pulled up next to the lovely Ocean Lodge at Cannon Beach where we were staying and soaked in the fresh salt air, warm sunshine and incredible views.

Twilight movie filming locations Day 3: La Push surfing and beach scene

Another surprise when doing my research for our “Twilight” movie filming locations road trip – the La Push beach scenes were actually filmed over 200 miles away at Indian Beach just north of Cannon Beach.

After a late lunch and a little shopping in Cannon Beach, we stopped by Bruce’s Candy Shop for road trip sustenance – our family tradition. Then we headed back home, full of conversation for a memorable 13th road trip birthday finding Twilight movie filming locations.

I am planning a surprise for my daughter and would like to ask if you could send me the address for the Cullens house?? I show its in West Vancouver??? Did I read it wrong?? Thanks Debbie Robinson

Hi Debbie! The first movie “Twilight” was filmed in the Northwest Oregon/Southwest Washington area, the Cullens’ house is in Portland – I have more info here: http://www.specialneedstravelmom.com/northwest-road-trips/twilight-movie-road-trip-the-cullens-house/ . The set was then recreated in British Columbia, where the subsequent films were shot. Have fun!

Me an my friends did this and there is a book I got off of Amazon called Experience Twilight. It gives you a lot of info. ALSO about 5 min. from Carver Cafe is Stone Cliff Inn, it is where they filmed a lot of the scenes. Lion and the lamb, the skin reveal, the tree where he tells her she is his own brand….there is a sign there to let you know. I have seen so many people miss that. You should really get the book. It is all possible. We did over 1000 miles in 2 1/2 days. Hope you have an amazing trip. If you would like I can send you our Itenerary with all the addresses. My email address I’d [email protected]
