How To Apply For A Switzerland Schengen Visa For Philippine Tourists

Macro shot biometric passport with schengen visa.

Switzerland lies in the heart of Europe, boasting breathtaking landscapes from majestic Alps to tranquil lakes and charming cities. Philippine tourists looking to experience all that Switzerland offers will find that securing a Switzerland Schengen Visa is essential; in this comprehensive guide, we will walk through every aspect of applying for one so as to ensure an easy and successful journey.

The Schengen Agreement: A Gateway To Europe

Switzerland may not be part of the European Union (EU), but they play an integral part in the Schengen Agreement allowing tourists to travel borderlessly among 27 European nations without cumbersome visa checks at every border crossing.

Schengen Visa: The Key To Entry

The Schengen Visa is a unified visa for short stays, allowing its holder to travel within the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. As Switzerland is part of this zone, Filipino tourists must obtain a Switzerland Schengen Visa to explore the Swiss Alps, picturesque cities, and cultural gems.

Determining The Type Of Visa

Embarking on an international journey requires more than just wanderlust; it demands careful consideration of the bureaucratic intricacies that govern entry into foreign lands. When setting your sights on the Swiss Alps and the charming cities of Switzerland, understanding the different types of visas becomes paramount. In this segment, we delve into the crucial step of “Determining the Type of Visa,” unravelling the distinctions between various visa categories and guiding Philippine tourists toward selecting the one that aligns seamlessly with their travel objectives. So, let’s navigate the visa landscape together and pave the way for a hassle-free Swiss adventure.

Tourist Visa vs. Other Categories

Before diving into the application process, it is crucial to identify the type of visa that suits your travel plans. For most Philippine tourists, the Tourist Visa is the appropriate choice, designed for those planning leisure trips, family visits, or cultural exploration. However, if your visit falls under a different category, such as business or education, a different type of visa may be required.

Initiating The Application Process

Embarking on the journey to Switzerland requires more than just enthusiasm; it demands a strategic and well-orchestrated approach to navigating the intricacies of the visa application process. As you set your sights on the majestic Alps and charming Swiss cities, understanding how to initiate the application process becomes the cornerstone of your travel adventure. In this section, we unravel the essential steps and considerations, ensuring that your pathway to a Switzerland Schengen Visa is not just a formality but a seamless and successful prelude to the enchanting experiences that await you. So, let’s dive into the details and set the wheels in motion for your Swiss sojourn.

When And Where To Apply

It’s essential to start the application process well in advance of your planned trip. The Swiss Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines is responsible for handling Schengen Visa applications. Ensure you apply at the embassy or consulate that has jurisdiction over your place of residence. Securing a valid flight reservation for visa is a pivotal step in the meticulous process of obtaining a visa for Switzerland, ensuring a smooth journey into the heart of Europe.

Online Appointment Booking

Most Swiss diplomatic missions require applicants to schedule an appointment for visa submissions. This can often be done online through the embassy’s official website. Be sure to choose a date that aligns with your travel plans and allows sufficient time for processing.

Gathering The Required Documentation

All the essential documents for a schengen visa are as follows

Application Form: Your Passport To Switzerland

The visa application form is the cornerstone of your submission. This comprehensive document collects information about your trip, personal details, and other relevant data. Ensure all sections are accurately filled out, and remember to affix your recent passport-sized photo.

Valid Passport: The Gateway Document

A valid passport is a non-negotiable requirement. Ensure that your passport has at least two blank pages and is valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure date from the Schengen Area.

Flight Itinerary And Accommodation

To demonstrate the purpose and duration of your stay, provide a detailed flight itinerary and proof of accommodation arrangements. This could include hotel reservations or an invitation letter from a host in Switzerland confirming your stay. Ensure a smooth visa application process with Schengen flight reservation visa travels who provide comprehensive flight itinerary and accommodation details tailored to meet visa requirements.

Travel Insurance: Safety Net For Your Journey

Schengen countries mandate travel insurance coverage for the entire duration of your stay. This insurance should include medical coverage with a minimum limit of €30,000, ensuring you’re financially protected in case of unforeseen circumstances.

Proof Of Financial Means

Switzerland requires evidence that you can financially support yourself during your stay. Bank statements, proof of employment, or a sponsorship letter are commonly accepted to demonstrate your financial stability.

Attending The Visa Interview

There are the following points to consider when you are attending a visa interview:

Preparation And Expectations

Once your documentation is in order, you may be required to attend a visa interview. Be prepared to discuss your travel plans, the purpose of your visit, and any other relevant details. Maintain honesty and clarity in your responses, ensuring a smooth interview process.

Language Proficiency

While English is widely spoken, having a basic understanding of French, German, or Italian – Switzerland’s official languages – can be advantageous. It not only showcases your commitment to cultural immersion but can also assist in situations where English might not be as prevalent.

After Submission: Waiting For The Verdict

Processing times.

The processing time for a Switzerland Schengen Visa can vary, but it typically takes around 15 calendar days. However, during peak travel seasons, delays might occur. It’s advisable to submit your application well in advance to avoid any last-minute complications.

Passport Collection

Once a decision has been made, you can collect your passport from the embassy or consulate. In the event of a visa rejection, you will receive a notification outlining the reasons for the denial.

Assuring yourself with dummy travel insurance can provide a temporary safety net, ensuring you meet the mandatory travel insurance requirement during the application process. You can visit theSchengen flight reservation visa for this purpose.

Conclusion: Embarking On A Swiss Adventure

Securing a Switzerland Schengen Visa for Philippine tourists is a meticulous process that demands attention to detail and adherence to the required documentation. By understanding the nuances of the application process, preparing thoroughly, and approaching the journey with patience, Filipino travellers can unlock the majestic wonders that Switzerland has to offer. So, pack your bags, embrace the Swiss spirit, and embark on a memorable adventure through the heart of Europe.

About a week ago, my request for a month-long Schengen Visa as a tourist was approved by the Switzerland Embassy, and I just loved how the application process was so swift and streamlined! (Switzerland Schengen Visa)

This Europe trip was a last-minute affair and my intended departure date was just 2 weeks away. I was clearly pressed for time, so you can imagine how anxious I was! Thankfully, the Swiss Embassy’s processing time is fast — in just 3 days, they have already given me the result of my visa application.

UPDATE : There are currently no entry restrictions to Switzerland — there is no longer a need for proof of vaccination, recovery, or testing. For more info, see here .

What to Do in Switzerland…?

Come and check out this list of the top things to do in Switzerland which features the best activities and tours to do in places like Zurich, Geneva, and more!

It helps to note, however, that I’m not going to stay in Switzerland for the whole month that I’m in Europe because I’m also planning on making the most of my stay as I visit other places like Monaco, France, Italy, Portugal, and Belgium!

So if you also want to get your Schengen Visa via the Switzerland Embassy as well, I hope that my visa application guide below can be of help to you.

But first, some disclaimers :

  • NO ONE can give you the guarantee that your Switzerland Schengen Visa application will be approved— not even a lawyer, a consultant, a travel agent, or an embassy employee. Anyone who says otherwise is most likely going to be a scammer. So what I’m rather offering you here is a comprehensive guide with helpful tips to increase your chances of getting that visa. Nothing more, nothing less.
  • There are different types of Schengen Visas (for being a local’s fiance, for work, for study, etc.) but my main focus for this article will be a Schengen Visa for Tourism purposes only. To see a list of requirements for other types of visas for Switzerland, go here .
  • Take note that additional documents could be asked from you if the Embassy deems it so; and of course, initial requirements might also change over time after this post’s publish date, so it’s best that you check the Embassy’s main website as well which is located here . .

Table of Contents

Schengen Area

A Schengen Visa is a document that allows the holder to travel freely within the Schengen Area or Zone for a maximum stay of up to 90 days in any 6 month perio d. This Schengen Area is a group of 26 European countries (22 European Union member states and 4 EFTA member states) that have abolished passport and immigration controls at their common borders and they are namely:

These 27 countries are namely:

  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark [1]
  • Liechtenstein
  • Netherlands [3]
  • Switzerland

[1] Excluding Greenland and the Faroe Islands [2] Excluding overseas departments and territories [3] Excluding Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the Caribbean Netherlands [4] Excluding Svalbard [5] With special provisions for Ceuta and Melilla

There are certain nationalities worldwide that are exempted from applying for a Schengen Visa, but as Philippine passport holders, in order to visit one or more of these Schengen states, we are required to apply for the visa. (Remember, Schengen Tourist Visa holders are NOT allowed to live permanently nor work in Europe, they only have the right to travel as a temporary visitor within the allotted timeframe indicated on their visa.)

» READ: How to Stay Longer in Europe

NOTE: It helps to mention that there are non-Schengen members in Europe that allow entry to their country if you have a Schengen Visa, namely: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Macedonia, Monaco, Montenegro, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Turkey, and Vatican City.

HOWEVER, you must check these details beforehand since their rules might have changed. Plus, customarily, only multiple-entry Schengen visas are allowed. For starters, you can check this list for a list of countries you can visit with a Schengen visa .

» When should I apply for a Schengen Visa?

Apply as early as three (3) months or 90 days before your planned trip date departure.

You can apply several days before your trip, sure — but it’s always best that you give enough time for the embassy to look into your application. After all, you wouldn’t want to make plans only to have the embassy provide you with a visa that has a validity period that’s NOT within your intended travel dates.

» Where should I apply for a Schengen Visa?

For Schengen Visas that have the main purpose of visiting a friend/family/national or reuniting with a fiancé/husband/etc. in a Schengen state, naturally, you should apply in the corresponding Embassy of the country where that person comes from.

Meanwhile, if you are planning to visit several Schengen Countries for your trip, your application must be made at the embassy of the main destination country — meaning, the country where you will be staying the longest . If the length of stay is almost the same, it’s best to apply for the country that you will first fly or enter to.

For my case, I determined that I had to apply at the Switzerland Embassy because I will not only be staying in their country the longest, but my first point of entry will also be in their territory.

» Which Schengen embassy will I have a better chance of getting a Visa?

There’s no such thing as an embassy that would easily give away Schengen Visas. But, if it is a question of time — like which Embassy can you get application results the quickest — then that would be an easier query for me to answer, which then leads us to the question…

» How long does it take for Schengen Visa results to be released?

To the best of my knowledge, the following Embassies usually release visas earliest in an average of:

  • Switzerland Embassy : 5 days
  • French Embassy : 2-5 days
  • Norwegian Embassy : 5 days – the Norwegian Embassy also handles Visa processing for Schengen countries that have no Embassies here in Manila such as Iceland
  • German Embassy : 7 days
  • Belgian and Netherlands (Dutch) Embassy : 15 days – the Belgian Embassy also handles Visa processing for Schengen countries that have no Embassies here in Manila, like Luxembourg and Slovenia
  • Danish Embassy : 15 days
  • Italian Embassy : 15 days

It can surely take longer if they need more documents or details from you.

Application Process for Switzerland Visa

Step 1: determine the type of switzerland schengen visa you need to apply for.

There are, of course, various types of Schengen Visas out there that you can apply for: a visa for family reunification, a visa for studying, a visa for work, a visa for transit, a visa for being a spouse, etc.

For this particular guide, I will only be discussing the requirements for a tourist visa since it’s an experience that I’ve gone through myself. (I will also include visit visa information since it’s almost similar to a tourist visa).

If, however, you have a different situation or purpose of visit, it’s best that you head over to this page of the Embassy of Switzerland in the Philippines for more information.

– – –

Step 2: Schedule your appointment online with VFS Global

When it comes to the Switzerland Embassy, they do visa applications via their external service provider, VFS Global . Unfortunately, you cannot just walk into their office to lodge an application because you need to book an appointment first online.

UPDATE 2021: The new link for registration and booking of appointment is now moved to this site: http://vfsglobal.com/

Here’s how you can secure a time slot:

  • Visit the VFS website here and click the text that says ‘ New User ‘.
  • You will be lead to a registration page where you need to create your own VFS account. Provide your first name, last name, email, contact number, and intended password for your account. Click the button that says ‘ Submit ‘ once done.
  • The page will load by itself and show you the log-in page. Enter the email and password that you set up and click the ‘ Continue ‘ button.
  • Under ‘ Select visiting country’ : Switzerland
  • Under ‘ Select residing country’ : Philippines
  • Under ‘ Select application center : Switzerland Visa Application – Manila
  • Under ‘ Select visa category’ : Tourists (or ‘Visiting Family’ if applicable to you)
  • Once you have input all the necessary information, click ‘Continue ‘.
  • The next page will show the ‘ Applicant List’ page. If you’re applying together with family or friends, you can only add 4 more applicant data (other than you) on this page to schedule a group appointment.
  • Proceed to click ‘ Add Applicant ‘ and input all your relevant details. Afterward, click ‘ Submit ‘ and proceed to secure your intended date for your appointment. Rest assured, there’s an option to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

Step 3: Prepare the required documents for your application

From what I’ve noticed, Schengen Visa requirements are almost similar, but with only a few tweaks or changes; so, you must ensure that you follow and provide everything that the Switzerland Embassy requires.

Depending on your circumstance, click the symbol ‘ + ‘ below to view the corresponding requirements for each section and the proper order that they need to be in. Make sure that you have authentic, original, and complete documents at all times. For the copies, you must submit them in A4 paper format.

  • Make sure that you have authentic, original, and complete documents at all times. Do NOT staple any of the documents below and submit them in the order listed in this checklist .

Ensure that the flight reservation indicates your name and reservation number. If applicable, provide proof of intra-Schengen flight ( OneWayFly can also provide this), train itinerary, or car rental .

(Section B)  Switzerland Schengen Visa WITH NON-SWISS Guarantor/Sponsor

Simply submit the requirements listed in section (A), numbers #1 to #18 (as applicable). When it comes to (#14) Personal Bank Statements , ask these from your guarantor/sponsor — such could be your mom, dad, brother, sister, friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, relative, a sponsoring company, etc.

NOTE: If your sponsor values his/her privacy, he/she has the option of sending his/her financial documents directly to the Embassy and he can do this by post or e-mail (instead of you submitting them to VFS on your appointment date).

The following documents are NOT required, but it helps to submit them too:

  • Letter that is written by your guarantor/sponsor indicating his/her relationship with you as well as confirming that he/she will be supporting all your travel expenses
  • Your OWN bank statements, properties, etc. to help strengthen your financial solvency even more

(Section C)  Switzerland Schengen Visa WITH A SWISS Guarantor/Sponsor REGISTERED WITH the Switzerland Embassy LIVING INSIDE Switzerland

Simply submit the requirements listed in section (A), numbers #1 to #18 (as applicable). When it comes to (#14) Personal Bank Statements , ask these from your Swiss guarantor/sponsor — this person can be your mom, dad, brother, sister, friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, relative, etc.

In addition, you should also ensure that you submit the following for your Switzerland Schengen Visa application:

  • Additional Questionnaire. This will actually be given to you during your appointment at VFS. Make sure that you fill out this form completely and truthfully and then submit it together with your other required documents. .
  • Invitation Letter. Your sponsor/guarantor must indicate in a signed letter: your general information (name, birth date, exact address, relationship), his/her details (name and exact address), confirmation and reason of invitation, your duration of stay, and proof of accommodation. .
  • Photocopy of Guarantor/Sponsor’s Passport. It must be a valid passport.

(Section D)  Switzerland Schengen Visa WITH NON-SWISS Guarantor/Sponsor LIVING INSIDE Switzerland

  • Photocopy of Guarantor/Sponsor’s Passport or Residence Permit in Switzerland. If applicable, include copies of the passport pages of your guarantor/sponsor’s entry and exit stamps from the Philippines.
IMPORTANT: In some cases, the Switzerland Embassy may ask for a “Declaration of Sponsorship’ after they check your documents. This form is something that you must send to your guarantor/sponsor/host in Switzerland who then has to process it with the cantonal authorities in his/her area of residence (this usually takes 3-4 weeks). For more information about this Declaration of Sponsorship, visit this website.

NOTE: If in case you are a Philippine national living or residing in a foreign country and you wish to avail a Schengen tourist visa, kindly inquire with the appropriate Schengen Embassy in the country that you’re living in about the requirements and procedures that you need to take. (It’s highly likely that it will be the same).

Also, the Switzerland Embassy may request for more information or additional documents in order to verify the contents and truthfulness of the documents you’ve submitted; so, be prepared for that..

Step 4: Submit your application at VFS on your appointment date

It helps to arrive early for your appointment. VFS is open from Mondays to Fridays, 7AM to 4PM (except public holidays) and their address for Manila is:

VFS Global Services Pvt. Ltd 30th Floor, The World Centre Sen Gil Puyat Ave Makati City, Metro Manila

The process usually goes like this:

  • Arrival and waiting period. Once you arrive at VFS, the security guard will confirm that you have an appointment, and then he/she will usher you to the waiting area and advice you to wait for your name to be called. .
  • If in case you have any missing documents, the staff will inform you about that.
  • The person will provide you with a 3-page questionnaire which you have to answer in a small private room. It’s basically your interview but in written form. .
  • If you have applied previously for the last 59 months you do not need to re-enroll your biometric data. However, there will be cases where you may need to re-submit your biometric data even if you have enrolled in it previously. In such cases, VFS shall get in touch with you.
  • Do NOT wear colored or magnifying contact lenses which could alter your appearance. .
  • Adults = Php 4,784
  • Children up to 12 years old = Php 3,284
  • Be advised that payment of these fees is NOT a guarantee that the visa will be granted. It also helps to note that these are non-refundable and non-transferable if your Switzerland Schengen Visa application is denied or if you decide to terminate your application.
  • They also offer other services such as courier return/delivery (Php 330) and SMS (Php 110).
The Swiss Embassy still reserves the right to ask you to appear for a personal interview after checking your Switzerland Schengen Visa application.

Step 5: Wait for the results of your Switzerland Schengen Visa application

Once the Switzerland Embassy is done assessing your application, they will send back your passport and your other original documents to VFS. Consecutively, VFS will send you a text message that you can now pick it all up. Make sure to bring your ID and the payment receipt when claiming your passport and the document detailing the decision on your application.

NOTE: Please don’t inquire with VFS if your application has been approved OR denied because they would NOT know the results themselves. ( Just think of them as a middleman between you and the Switzerland Embassy) . However, you can track the status of your application via this link .

Applications accepted at VFS will also be submitted the next working day at the Switzerland Embassy. The time required to process Visa Applications is up to 7 to 10 working days however as per Schengen Codex it can take up to 15 working days.

Naturally, the Switzerland Embassy will NOT assume any responsibility if your visa application is rejected. And if it does get rejected, you will be given an information sheet that shows the procedures you can take in order to ask for an appeal.

The Swiss representation still reserves the right to ask you to appear for a personal interview after checking your Switzerland Schengen Visa application.

TIP: It’s a good idea to crosscheck the prices with other popular travel insurance providers like World Nomads and HeyMondo (as my reader, you get 5% off)! . However, take note a travel insurance’s affordability typically means lesser coverage; so please always ensure that you read the fine print in order to decipher which travel insurance company is the right fit for you and your trip!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

If it can support your Switzerland Schengen Visa application even further, then sure! The Embassy encourages that, especially if it can help provide proof of your economical or social ties within the Philippines (example: pay slips, real estate properties, land title, etc.).

It’s not required, but it’s good practice to provide one. You can download a sample here.

Most of the Schengen member countries would need you to show that you have at least EUR 50 (Php 2,500+) per day of your stay. You can use this as a standard and this is the bare minimum, that’s why I suggest that you add way more money to it if you can.

There is no border control within the Schengen Zone, so yes — you can deviate from your original plans BUT only for as long as they’re within the Schengen member countries.

Interviews are done by embassies since they usually want more information about your situation, if not verify. From my experience, the questions will often be simple as it covers the following aspects: – Your background: proof of strong ties with the Philippines, your job, your financial capacity, etc. – Details & purpose of your trip: to where are you going to, why you’re going, how long, where you’re staying, etc. – Your relationship with your sponsor: only  if you’re applying with a guarantor/sponsor – Your travel history: if you’ve been to the Schengen area before, if you have relatives/family there, etc. Of course, the questions may vary depending on your circumstance but generally, there really are no difficult questions since they only want to know more about you and your trip.  So just be honest and concise.

Yes, it’s possible! According to the recent Schengen visa code, you can get a 1-year multiple-entry tourist visa if you have obtained and lawfully used three (3) Schengen tourist visas in the past 2 years at the time of your application. You can get a 2-year multiple-entry tourist visa if you have obtained and used a 1-year multiple-entry visa within the previous 2 years; and lastly, you can get a 5-year multiple-entry tourist visa if you have obtained and used a 2-year multiple-entry visa in the past 3 years.

In case your Switzerland Schengen Visa application is refused, you will be given an INFORMATION SHEET indicating the procedure you can take in case of a formal Refusal – Right to appeal process.

Thanks for this, Aileen! Very big help.

Juankee

Hello! Thank you for the tips. You are appreciated. I am currently working as a Virtual Assistant in a US based company. I would say I am paid well. However since I am working remotely I dont have ITR or 2316 but I can definitely provide a certificate of employment. What could be a workaround on that? Or what do you think is the best justification I can do=. But my bank account account has no problem and monthly it can be seen that there are remittances coming from th eUS comapany. Thank you so much and hope to ehar from you!

Aileen Adalid

Hey Juankee! I also worked as a freelancer before — or more specifically, as a remote worker in the Philippines for foreign companies. Even if we are working for such companies abroad, we are still required to file taxes here in the Philippines; so unfortunately, your defense or reasoning won’t pass with the embassy. So, I suggest starting to file your taxes as early as now; the classification for workers such as yourself is often classified as semi-professionals. You can hire an accounting company to process your BIR registration, or you can also just sign up with Taxumo (feel free to use my code AILEEN and you can get a 10% discount on all their subscription plans!).

Anne

Hello, Aileen. Did you get a multiple entry Schengen Visa? For example, if I get a single entry Schengen Visa, will I be allowed to move from one country to another or would I really need a multiple entry visa instead?

Hey Anne! Yes, I have already been granted a multiple-entry Schengen visa numerous times now. A single-entry Schengen visa is already fine to use AS LONG AS you’re only moving between the Schengen countries and that you don’t plan to exit any of those Schengen countries during the duration of your visa. Hope that helps!

Richard Earnhart

Thank you for this helpful tips. If my visa for switzerland will be approved. Can I go to Amsterdam or Italy using that visa. Thanks!

Yes you can given that the Netherlands and Italy are both Schengen members as well :)

Sarah P Casalme

Hi, will taxumo be able to provide ITR when needed for visa requirements? Thanks!

Yes! They will be able to process your ITR for you and provide you with a processed copy thereafter which you can submit to the embassy :)

This beautiful country is indeed everybody’s dream destination– whether for a vacation or for a place to live. If you are ready to tick this travel destination off your bucket list, here’s a guide on how to apply for a  Schengen Switzerland Visa.

An Overview of Schengen Visa for Short-term Stay in Switzerland

Switzerland is a part of the Schengen zone, composed of 26 European countries. To enter Switzerland (and any other countries in the Schengen zone), you must obtain a Schengen Visa first.

If you are from the Philippines, you do need a Schengen visa to be able to enter and stay in Switzerland that will allow you to stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Who is Eligible to Apply for a Schengen Visa to Switzerland?

If you are a Philippine passport holder and you are planning to apply for a Schengen visa, you must fulfill any of these conditions:

  • Switzerland is your main destination . It means that you will visit Switzerland only and have no plans of visiting any other Schengen country ( sa Switzerland ka lang pupunta at mag-stay ); or
  • You will stay the longest in Switzerland . You have plans of traveling around the Schengen Area, but Switzerland is where you will be staying the longest. ( Pupunta ka pa sa ibang Schengen countries, pero sa Switzerland ang pinaka-mahabang stay mo ).
  • The main purpose of your travel is in Switzerland . You have plans of visiting other Schengen countries, but the focus of your travel is in Switzerland.
  • Switzerland is your port of entry . You have plans of visiting multiple Schengen countries for the same number of days, but Switzerland is your first point of entry.

Important Documents to Prepare

First things first—you need documents to support your visa application! Depending on your circumstance, click the symbol ‘▼‘ below to view the corresponding requirements for each section and the proper order that they need to be in. Make sure that you have authentic, original, and complete documents at all times. For the copies, you must submit them in A4 paper format.

For this, you will need to prepare these documents:

1.  A duly filled out and signed  Schengen Visa Application Form for Switzerland . You may download the form by signing up  here .

2.   Two current biometrical passport photos (35-45 mm width) – have your passport photo taken. The embassy is very strict on their photo specifications. Fortunately, they have a  page  on their official website dedicated to explaining this. Bring at least two copies or more, just in case. One photo should be glued to the application form. The second photo will be returned to you.

  • Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or contact lenses, or a head covering unless worn for religious or medical reasons.
  • The subject should have their mouth closed  (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows).

After which, paste your photo on each of the electronic visa form that you completed online  (1 original and 1 photocopy of the form).

3. Original Passport and a Photocopy of it as well as the Bio Page – The embassy requires that your passport is valid for at least another three months on the date the visa application is submitted. It also must have two empty pages for them to stamp your passport. If you have renewed your passport, bring your old one/s with you. These are needed especially if you have previous overseas trips.

4. Travel Insurance  –  the coverage must be applied during the entire duration of the trip and must be valid for all Schengen countries. Coverage sum must be AT LEAST EUR 30,000 (Php 2.5 million or USD 50,000). I highly recommend Pioneer Insurance which you can avail yourself through me. Feel free to directly inquire through JASTravel   on Facebook and I would be very glad to assist you.

5.   A copy of your roundtrip flight reservation.  Do  NOT  buy flight tickets before the visa is issued because the Switzerland Embassy would NOT take any responsibility for the costs you’ll incur if your visa gets denied. We can assist you with a dummy ticket for your flight reservation requirement;  get it here !

6.  Proof of Accomodation, copy(ies).  These are confirmed hotel reservation(s) only for the entire duration of your stay in the Schengen countries containing the name and contact details of the hotel(s) as well as the reservation number.

7.  Day-to-day Itinerary – At this part, it’s good practice to include a cover letter along with this itinerary document so that you can properly explain the purpose of your trip. We can help you plan your trip by availing our  itinerary service.

8. Proof of financial capacity  to show that you (or your sponsor) can support your expenses for the whole duration of your travel.

For those traveling without a sponsor:  this means that you will cover all your expenses during the entire duration of your travel.

  • Bank statements  – must show records of the past six months. A bank statement shows your transactions in your account at a specific period. It will show debits (withdrawals, payments, taxes, service fees) and credits (deposits, interest earned.) Bank Statements can also be seen online especially if you have a registered account. There is no signature for the manager or a bank officer.
  • Bank Certificate  – it is a confirmation by the branch manager or a bank officer that you have an existing account in their bank. It shows the account number, the type, and other details such as the opening date of your account, your account balance as of the date of request, and your average daily balance.
  • Other proof of income  (supporting documents) – although it is not really required, you can submit invoices and pay slip equivalent to prove that you earn enough to support this trip financially.

9. Evidence of your rootedness in the Philippines  – Evidence of deep-rootedness a.k.a. strong family and social ties to your home country, is  one of the most critical requirements when applying for a Schengen Visa . It is what the Consul will look for in your visa application. So how do you prove that you are firmly established in the Philippines and that you will go back to your home country?

You need to convince them that you will return to the Philippines.  Insufficient evidence of deep-rootedness to your home country is also one of the chief reasons for visa denial.

  • Employment or Work contract and bank account statements or payslips showing the transfer of your last six-monthly salaries
  • Certificate of Employment which should include the employer’s full name, complete address, telephone number with area code, details regarding the position, income, and employment duration
  • Approved letter of approved leave signed by your employer (Leave of Absence letter)
  • Optional: Signed No Objection Certificate which states that your employer has no objection for you to travel to Switzerland and that they have approved your leave request
  • Most recent Income Tax Return 2316 (ITR)
  • Optional Supporting Documents: › Government Mandated Contributions – SSS, Pag-ibig, Philhealth Contributions › If with existing loan – SSS Loan or Pag-ibig Salary loan
  • DTI Business Name Registration Certificate
  • Barangay Business Clearance
  • Mayor’s Business Permit from your Municipality where the business address has been registered
  • Business activity of your company for the last 6 months – invoices and bank transactions
  • Most recent Income Tax Return 2316 (ITR)

  • For Solo parents: › A copy of your birth certificate- PSA Authenticated › A copy of your child/children’s birth certificate- PSA Authenticated › Solo parent ID › Barangay Certification as Solo parent › Notarized Affidavit of Solo Parent with Undertaking › Money remittances to support your dependents
  • For those who are supporting or watching over the health/well-being of the family: ›  A copy of my parent’s birth certificates- PSA Authenticated › If parents are already Senior Citizens: a copy of their Senior Citizen ID and Barangay Certification as Senior Citizens › If parents have sickness/ illness: Medical history of parents (diabetes, hypertension, etc.)
  • Land titles
  • Car registration certificates
  • Deeds of Sale
  • Joint affidavit of both parents or legal guardians granting consent
  • Photocopies of the passports of both parents or legal guardians
  • Birth certificate of the minor. Must be recent, original, and issued by PSA.
  • DSWD Clearance , if the minor is not traveling with either parent or legal guardian
  • Recent certificate of enrollment from the school
  • Letter authorizing the student’s absence from school

10. Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) & Re-Entry Permit, copy . This is ONLY if you’re a foreign national who has a valid residence in the Philippines.

11. If applicable, Valid Visa(s) to your next destination . This is ONLY if you’re NOT traveling back to the Philippines after your trip to Switzerland or the Schengen territories. As such, if your airline reservation and itinerary indicate the next destination to be a different country other than the Philippines, please provide proof of a valid visa for that destination.

Simply submit the requirements listed in  Category (A), except for item #11 . When it comes to  item #8: Proof of financial capacity > Personal Bank Statements , ask these from your guarantor/sponsor —  such could be your mom, dad, brother, sister, friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, relative, a sponsoring company, etc.

  • Your OWN bank statements, properties, etc. to help strengthen your financial solvency even more- If you maintain a bank account for a long time, better maintain it . Kahit na may sponsor ka, of course, plus points pa din sa visa application mo if idadagdag mo din bank statements mo, payslips from our employer, and other proof na financially capable ka din and most importantly, it proves deep rootedness as well.

In addition, you should also ensure that you submit the following for your Switzerland Schengen Visa application:

12. Additional Questionnaire .   This will actually be given to you during your appointment at VFS. Make sure that you fill out this form completely and truthfully and then submit it together with your other required documents.

13. Invitation Letter .  Your sponsor/guarantor must indicate in a signed letter: your general information  (name, birth date, exact address, relationship),  his/her details  (name and exact address), confirmation and reason of invitation, your duration of stay, and proof of accommodation.

Let us take care of your cover letter (and others such as sponsorship, invitation, and appeal), get our letter service here !

14. Photocopy of Guarantor/Sponsor’s Passport.  It must be a valid passport.

NOTE:  If in case you are a Philippine national living or residing in a foreign country and you wish to avail a Schengen tourist visa, you can inquire with the appropriate Schengen Embassy in the country that you’re living in about the requirements and procedures that you need to take. (It’s highly likely that it will be the same).

Also, the Switzerland Embassy may request for more information or additional documents in order to verify the contents and truthfulness of the documents you’ve submitted; so, be prepared for a document examination.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Apply for a Schengen Visa to Switzerland

UPDATE : There are currently no entry restrictions to Switzerland — there is no longer a need for proof of vaccination, recovery, or testing. For more info, see  here .

STEP 1: Determine the type of Swiss Schengen visa you need to apply for and have a look at the checklist of requirements to gather all the documents that you need to submit.

The first step is to determine which  visa type  you need, and check whether you’re eligible to apply for it.

You’ll also need to know the documents that you’ll have to submit along with your application,  how long the application might take  and fees you’ll have to pay.

Each application must comply with the guidelines applicable for your visa category.

If your documents are not in English, you may need to get translations prepared before applying.

STEP 2:  Complete the Schengen Visa Requirements  stated above (Important Documents to Prepare depending on the Visa Category you fall under) to begin with your visa application.  Once you are ready to apply, go to the  Embassy of Switzerland in the Philippines for more information.

Common Reasons for Schengen Visa Rejection

Here are the common reasons a Schengen Visa application gets denied:

  • No clear travel purpose —a detailed cover letter is a must!
  • Lack of strong ties —reevaluate your application and prove why you must return to your home country!
  • Insufficient travel insurance coverage —make sure you get the right policy!
  • No proof of financial means —convince them that you can afford your trip! Provide bank or credit card statements, VUL, investment portfolio, etc.
  • Passport does not have 2 free pages —where will they attach the visa if your passport pages are already full? You should get a new passport before applying for a visa if there are no more available pages on your old one!
  • No proof of accommodation —you need to prove them that you have a place to stay in the Schengen Area.
