No matter what time of year you are visiting Tanzania, we recommend that you dress in clothing that is loose fitting and light colored. This will help to keep you cool and protected from the sun. 12-day Delta, Chobe & Victoria Falls (Accommodated)

Great tour, well organised, very knowledgeable and friendly guide. 2 suggestions: - please add safari pass amount to overall tour fee and make payable upfront. It’s safer not to carry lots of cash. Also guide does not need all this cash as most fees can be paid by credit card. - tipping is expected on most activities. It’s often difficult to figure out the right amount even with the help of the guide. Suggest to make the guide tip on behalf of the group taking the money from the safari pass or ask everybody to pay a small amount upfront (e.g. USD 10) to the guide.

Everything was Amazing

8 days: Best of Zambia, Botswana (Chobe) and Zimbabwe (Zambezi) Wildlife Safari Tour Tour

8 days: Best of Zambia, Botswana (Chobe) and Zimbabwe (Zambezi) Wildlife Safari Tour

The trip delivers what the title promises. The best of three countries in one package. Mark and his team took great care of their guests at all times and, together with their local partners, ensured a smooth vacation. In particular, the rhino safari in Zambia and the Chobe National Park in Botswana are a fantastic experience. Just like being able to see the Victoria Falls from both sides. The logistics of the numerous border crossings are fully supported and can therefore be completed without any worries (with appropriate preparation, depending on nationality). In my opinion, there is only room for improvement in the accommodation in Zimbabwe. The chosen lodge is in a solid condition, but the rooms (sanitary facilities, no air conditioning) show the passing decades. The food, on the other hand, is excellent and sumptuous! Despite the small drawback, an absolutely recommendable trip to experience the highlights of the three countries!

Cape Town to the Serengeti: Deserts & Wilderness

Enjoyed the trip, saw lots of different animals, history and culture. Spent a lot of the time driving but the variety of game drives and optional activities created a good balance. The 2 groups I was a part of were great people and good company. The meals however were poor, felt our guide didn't try his best, majority of meals were cheap and our meal allowances were equivalent to $2-3 when given to eat on our long drives. He definitely could of done better with options especially after several comments and suggestions from our group. I didn't feel the food we got was anywhere the price I paid for the trip. Breakfasts consisted of cornflakes, weetabix, fruit and occasional yoghurt which was hidden and rationed along with museli. There were some days closer to the end where we got eggs, sausage and pancakes. Some individuals didn't even eat much overall because there wasn't much selection. Lunches consisted of processed meat sandwiches, apples and bananas for the most part. Dinners were rice, pasta, some vegetables and bread. The meat options were fine and more catered to I found. Unfortunately I felt that our guide wasn't organized with activities either, left everything to the last minute. He became more involved and active on the 2nd half of our journey with the group, for the first half he was a little reserved. Our driver was amazing and very accommodating and friendly. I would definetely do another G trip but would like to have a more outgoing and accommodating guide.

10 Days Uganda\'s Gorillas Encounter, Wildlife & Kigali City Tour ( Private tour) Tour

10 Days Uganda's Gorillas Encounter, Wildlife & Kigali City Tour ( Private tour)

This was my second visit to Uganda - and I still love the country. This time, I traveled for 14 days with my brother where we had chosen to go with Mukisa Safaris. The entire tour was extremely well planed and informative. The company always responded our e-mails immediately. When we arrived to Uganda the company was even better than what we had hoped - and the entire tour was excellent. Our guide was a really good birder - which my brother is as well. Both the driver and the guide were really friendly and we felt safe and well-informed during the entire tour. I can only give Mukisa Safaris my best recommendations

13- Day Uganda Expedition: Experience Moments with Gorillas, Wildlife and Cultural Experiences ( Private tour) Tour

13- Day Uganda Expedition: Experience Moments with Gorillas, Wildlife and Cultural Experiences ( Private tour)

With the resumption of the travel industry globally, we thought of going for a holiday and Africa emerged as our travel destination. We decided to first visit Uganda as it’s been our dream of seeing the gorillas. We contacted a few travel agents and Richard of Mukisa Safaris proved to be extremely prompt, courteous and helpful. Initially, we had intended on spending only 5 days in Uganda since our main aim was to see gorillas. We were however assured by Richard that Uganda has more to offer and he customized our tour that involved wildlife, community visits, water rafting, chimp tracking in addition to gorilla trekking. During our email and Whatsapp exchanges, Richard was very prompt, informative, helpful and reliable. On our arrival at the Ugandan airport, we were received by Richard together with his team. The safari immediately commenced with traveling to Jinja for water adventure. It was such an awesome expedition of rafting on water. After rafting, we returned to Kampala where we spent our night in a very beautiful, clean hotel. The following day, we resumed with our safari and traveled to Murchison Falls National park though we first visited and tracked Rhinos at Ziwa. Murchison falls is a beautiful park with green rolling plains and greatly endowed with a variety of animals. The wildlife safari continued to Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Park and during the game drives, we saw all the Big 5 of Africa. The walking safari in Lake Mburo was very fascinating as we got close to most of the animals especially the beautiful and peaceful zebras. Ugandans are extremely hospitable people and they have left everlasting smiles on our faces. They were so friendly during our social and community interactions with them. Towards the last days of our safari, it was time for our dream of seeing the gorillas come true. After briefing, we requested for the most challenging hike since we wanted to experience every single detail of the trekking exercise. After walking in the dense forest for 3 hours, we finally found the gorillas and they were feeding. Wow…….It was such an amazing moment standing up close to the gorillas seeing them carry on with their activities. If possible, every person would experience this. If it wasn’t by policy that after founding gorillas you are allowed to stay in their vicinity for one hour, we would have stayed with them admiring these beautiful giants. Importantly to note, during our 2 weeks in Uganda, we were in the company of Hamida and John as our guide and driver respectively. These two were very hospitable, caring, informative, courteous, and friendly and they made our trip a success. Hamida was very knowledgeable about everything in Uganda and we were moved by her vast knowledge about birds and animals and during our stay with them, we felt safe and secure. I recommend Mukisa Safaris to any one intending to travel to Uganda.

African Safari Tour Reviews

The tour was very well organized. Everything worked up quite well and everyone took good care of us. It was a magnificent time in Tanzania's wild nature. Also the tour company took care of all changes online (one day early arrival and extra shira tour booking) in a flexible and timely manner. Our Safari guide and driver Israel did really a great job. He worked hard to find all the animals for us as good as possible. This wasn't an easy job as we were there during rain season. He kept us safe and well informed all the time. We saw many wild animals such as cheetahs, lions, giraffes, buffalos, elephants, hippos, hyenas and of course tons of Gnus, zebras and all kinds of antilopes, monkeys and birds. We could even see some of the big five like the lion from eye to eye, roaming around less than 1m from our vehicle! Of course there's no guaranty of which wild animals you'll see as we're talking about natural parks, but you can rest assured the guides are doing their best to show you what nature is offering during your visit. All the staff in the hotels, parks and people in general were very kind and very welcoming! The food was always good and safe. FYI, the actual safari is 5 days + 2 days arrival and departure. Nevertheless within these 5 days we saw so many places and had a unique nature experience. "Luxury" as mentioned in the title is a bit too much said, especially when it comes to accommodation. On the other hand all the hotel names/ratings and the exact itinerary were mentioned clearly so no surprises. The luxurious part was actually that we were only on our own since it's low season :) Our guide Israel was flexible and fulfilled every possible wish we had. The Maasai village tour in the way to Serengeti costs an extra 50$ which is a fair price but they will also offer you some overpriced hand-made souvenirs to buy. The tour itself was very interesting and nice including a welcome song and dance basically from the whole village :) The Serengeti Safari lounge was quite spacious and had a big balcony to enjoy the endless view of the Serengeti. That was definitely the best accommodation of the trip. We woke up to a great show of a huge group of Gnus and Zebras directly in front of our balcony. The very ones who were singing for us all night :) Last but not least: if you're wondering about the prices even for a day tour, you should know that the park fees including conservation fees are quite high. So you're basically contributing to the well-being of these parks as well as the many wonderful people protecting them.
A bit late with the review... The trip was November 2019 and it was the best trip ever!!! Simon best guide, stunning places, welcoming locals and amazing experiences! the flight over the Okavango Delta is highly recommended.

Discover Our Africa Tours and Safaris

During the less-enlightened colonial period of the 19th century, Africa was referred to as the ‘Dark Continent,’ a name that evoked its undeniable mystery to the average outsider. How times have changed! Now easier than ever to visit, Africa remains a land filled with amazing travel experiences and opportunities, and there are African vacations to suit a wide variety of interests.

Africa Travel Highlights

Best african safari destinations .

Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa and boasts ‘The Big Five’ game sightings: the lion, the African elephant, the Cape buffalo, the leopard and the rhinoceros. Joining them are a myriad of other wildlife species and birds. An Africa safari here will be an unforgettable experience. There are literally over 100 game reserves in South Africa. Some of the better-known ones include Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, Addo Elephant Park, Madikwe and Pilanesberg.

Elsewhere in Southern Africa, Botswana , where most of the animals are allowed to roam freely, has some first-rate game reserves such as Chobe National Park , the Okavango Delta and Moremi National Park , all teeming with wildlife. In Zimbabwe , 12% of the country is devoted to either National Parks or Game Reserves suitable for Africa safari tours. The two principal wildlife reserves are Hwange which contains more than 30,000 elephants and Lake Kariba. Zambia has excellent game reserves such as South Luangwa National Park , which also boasts a large colony of elephants.

Abundant animal viewing is available on an East Africa safari. Both Kenya and Tanzania offer an array of wildlife on their savannah grassland plains. Safaris in East Africa tend to be on the wilder side. This is the home of the Great Migration, Serengeti National Park and Maasai Mara, Ngorongoro Crater and Mount Kilimanjaro.

African Beach Resorts

Two other considerations for either an après-safari sojourn or just a beach vacation are the Seychelles and Mauritius located in the Indian Ocean off the East African coast. The beaches are uncrowded with powder-soft sands nestled next to turquoise waters. For water sports enthusiasts, there are wonderful opportunities for snorkelling and scuba diving. Meanwhile, off the coast of Tanzania, Zanzibar offers an intoxicating blend of history, multiculturalism, and plentiful opportunities to relax by the Indian Ocean.

Choosing Which Country to Visit in Africa or the Middle East

From Cape Town to Cairo, Africa is a continent rich with diversity and natural beauty. It is home to some of the oldest civilizations on earth, and many of its most famous and impressive creatures and natural wonders. Journey on through the Middle East and the adventure continues! Here are some of our favourite Africa vacation spots.

South Africa has been described as “A World in One Country.” It has been blessed with spectacular natural beauty, a great climate and diverse cultures. There are awesome mountain ranges such as the Drakensberg, subtropical forest, exceptional wetlands and bushveld alive with wild animals, all available on African vacations. Cape Town , a cosmopolitan and modern metropolis, is a premier contender for the world’s most beautiful city award with its natural setting sandwiched between the striking background of Table Mountain and the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

Best places to visit in South Africa

When it comes to exceptional coastal scenery, the Garden Route is hard to beat and stretches from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. It features lakes, lagoons, lush forests and rugged coastal scenery. Some of the major towns are Mossel Bay, George, Knysna, The Wilderness, Tsitsikamma National Park, Plettenberg Bay and Oudtshoorn. The Garden Route is also a great place for whale-watching on African vacations.

For wine enthusiasts, a visit to the Cape Winelands is a must with its magnificent mountain backdrop and classic Cape-Dutch homesteads. Visits to world-class wineries are available in Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek. The nearby Cape of Good Hope offers striking natural beauty and a short boat ride takes you to the infamous Robben Island.

The Panorama Route is nothing less than breathtaking, with the world’s third-largest canyon, Blyde River Canyon. Scenic spots here are God’s Window, the Pinnacle and the Three Rondavels. And don’t leave out Pilgrim’s Rest, an authentic Gold Rush town. Zululand is the heart of the Zulu Kingdom, the place where many tribes and clans came together to form a united kingdom. The nearby battlefields have been witness to many clashes between the British and the Zulus.

Johannesburg is a modern city with interesting attractions such as Gold Reef City for a glimpse of the Gold Rush era and Soweto Township, a community purpose-built under Apartheid for native African people and former home to Nelson Mandela. Pretoria is known as Jacaranda City with its impressive parliament buildings and the Voortrekker Monument. Durban with its mild climate and sandy beaches is a good place to relax, swim or surf and make sure to take in the exotic spice markets. You can even test your nerves, cage diving with great white sharks! There are a number of other outstanding South African cities all of which have something to offer the visitor on African tours.

For a somewhat more upscale safari with unparalleled wildlife viewing, UNESCO world heritage listed regions and a total ban on game hunting, look no further than Botswana. One of Africa’s safest, most economically prosperous, and geographically diverse nations, Botswana’s attractions read like a list of Africa’s biggest safari hits, in the form of the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park, and Moremi Game Reserve. From the wetlands of the delta to the dry landscapes of the Kalahari Desert which stretch into Namibia, Botswana is a safari destination like no other.

Zimbabwe and Zambia

Zimbabwe and Zambia have frequently paired thanks to the natural wonder that brings them together - Victoria Falls . The jewel in the crown for both countries, this awe-inspiring cascade of beauty and grandeur on the Zambezi River is the world’s largest sheet of falling water, slowly retreating upriver as it gradually erodes its next precipice. In fact, each gorge the river flows into at the base of the falls was once the location of the falls. Zimbabwe is also a highlight for those interested in Africa’s human history. Great Zimbabwe is the largest ruined settlement found in sub-Saharan Africa. Both countries impress when it comes to the wildlife of course, particularly at Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, and South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, home to one of the world’s largest populations of leopards.

Namibia

Namibia is a country with the highest sand dunes, located in Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert, and the lowest canyon in the world, Fish River Canyon. Windhoek has historical buildings dating back to German colonial rule. For a touch of the eerie, visit the aptly named Skeleton Coast , the final resting place of numerous ships that have underestimated its waters. For some time out to relax, Swakopmund is an attractive  beach resort often referred to as ‘Namibia’s Playground.’ Etosha National Park has an abundance of wildlife and a jeep safari will bring you close to the animals on an African safari. Many of the animals are subspecies unique to Namibia, perfectly adapted to its desert conditions. Another safari destination is the Namib Rand Nature Reserve located in southwestern Namibia.  A haunting phenomenon awaits at the Deadvlei near Sossusvlei, where the remnants of black acacia trees rise from the salt plains against the vivid backdrop of orange dunes.

The Maasai are indigenous tribes of Kenya and Tanzania

Kenya is a country of diverse landscapes with its vast plains, majestic snow-capped Mount Kenya and tropical palm-fringed beaches along the Indian Ocean coast. For game viewing, you have a wide selection of parks to choose from. These include Amboseli , Mount Kenya , Aberdare , Lake Nakuru and the renowned Maasai Mara with its annual wildebeest migration, one of the remarkable wildlife attractions of Kenya. Take a break on the coast in Mombasa with its white sand beaches, coral reefs and lively atmosphere while travelling on African tours.

Tanzania is home to thousands of wild animals and tropical birds to see on an African safari. The Serengeti is the most renowned wildlife reserve bordering Lake Victoria. It is also well known for its animal migration which takes place twice a year. It has the highest concentration of large mammals on the planet and is famous for its lions, the highest concentration found anywhere. Other notable parks include the incomparable Ngorongoro Conservation Area , known also as “Africa’s Eden”, Tarangire National Park with the largest population of elephants in Tanzania and Lake Manyara with its tree-climbing lions and pink flamingos. Mount Kilimanjaro , visible from Nairobi , is a target for trekkers and climbers who want to reach the summit. Just off the Indian Ocean coast is the island of Zanzibar with its winding streets in the old port city of Stone Town .

Where can I go mountain gorilla trekking?

Two East African countries offering a very different style of Africa safari in the form of a gorilla trek are Uganda and Rwanda . Trekking through the mountainous rainforest in small groups, you can enjoy the almost magical experience of seeing gorillas close-up. The experience however varies greatly between the two countries. Uganda is far more accessible, offering a much lower price point for gorilla trekking permits, and a wider variety of sights and attractions in the rest of the country. Rwanda, however, while more expensive, offers a more boutique experience, with tighter regulations ensuring every visitor enjoys a high-quality encounter with the gorillas.

North Africa and Middle East Travel Highlights

Egypt , one of the world’s oldest civilizations, is steeped in fascinating history and archaeological finds unlike anywhere else on earth. Cairo offers the world’s most extensive pharaonic collection of artefacts at the Egyptian Museum. And who wouldn’t want to visit the Giza, Memphis and Saqqara pyramids? The best way to capture the essence of ancient Egypt is on a Nile Cruise sailing between Luxor and Aswan while visiting the Luxor and Karnak Temples and the Valleys of the Kings and Queens. From Aswan, take a side trip to Abu Simbel with its huge reassembled edifice.

It’s not a classical safari spot, but don’t discount a visit to Ethiopia on African vacations. The oldest independent country in Africa is a land of contrasts and remote, wild locations. These include the jaggedly carved Simien Mountains and Lalibela , with its network of old churches hewn out of red volcanic rock. Addis Ababa has many museums including the Ethnological Museum located within Emperor Haile Selassie’s former palace.

Tunisia offers sun-drenched days on the beach as well as historical sites and desert experiences. The beach resorts of Hammamet, Djerba and Sousse are all Internationally acclaimed. For historical sites, head to  Carthage with its outstanding Roman amphitheatre and citadel. Also to El Jem, home of possibly the most impressive Roman amphitheatre in Africa. The desert calls with a visit to the town of Douz, the gateway to the Sahara where you can experience camel or jeep rides through amazing sand dunes and under star-filled night skies.

Morocco has a mix of excellent beach resorts, snow-capped mountains, cedar forests and the colourful Sahara Desert. Beach resorts include Casablanca , Agadir and Tangier. For something more exotic, head to Marrakech in the foothills of the snow-covered Atlas Mountains with its charming ambience, Rabat with its Kasbah (market), Hassan Tower and Royal Mausoleum and Palace and Fez , one of the best-preserved walled medinas (old city) in the Arab world.

Israel and Jordan

The Middle East is the place to see contrasting neighbouring countries such as Israel and Jordan. Israel is steeped in history and bursting with religious interest which can be found in abundance in Jerusalem , Tel Aviv , Haifa, the Sea of Galilee, Bethlehem and Nazareth. A visit to the Dead Sea is a unique feature. Jordan offers ancient Roman sites, Crusader castles, interesting churches, excellent beaches and unique desert landscapes. Petra is an important archaeological site inhabited by the Nabateans approximately 2000 years ago.

The wailing wall in Jerusalem

The Persian Gulf

In the Persian Gulf are three exceptional stopover destinations, Dubai beckons with its stunning white beaches, excellent shopping and the opportunity to go riding in the desert. dunes. Overnight: Mara Sopa Lodge , Masai Mara (2 nights) (B, L, D)

Day 06: Masai Mara

Migratory blue wildebeest crossing the Mara river, Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Early morning and afternoon game drives in Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s best and most scenic game park. At the northern extremity of the unique Serengeti ecosystem, blessed with a permanent water supply, the Masai Mara has a thriving, permanent population of plains game, augmented in the dry season by the migration of more than a million wildebeest and zebra from the vast, parched Serengeti plains. Of the Big Five, elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard are quite common, while even the much rarer rhino might be spotted. Hyena are plentiful and the cheetah is often seen. Besides being the setting for the ancient and often tragic spectacle of the Great Migration, other marvels of the Masai Mara include giraffe, elephant, red-tailed monkeys and a host of antelope. Optional excursions at an additional cost include bush walks, Masai community visits and hot air ballooning over the majestic plains. (B, L, D)

Overnight: Al Falaj Hotel, Muscat (1 night) (B)

Day 09: Muscat/Nizwa (Drive)

Beautiful Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat

Our Oman experience starts with a visit to the Grand Mosque, truly an architectural marvel. Continue with a drive-through tour of Muscat before taking on the enchanting Batinah coast. From here, we journey to the scenic mountains, crossing through the Hajjar ranges to the forts in Nizwa. Terraced farming and beautiful villages await us along the way. This region is also known for its honey, and beekeeping has been practiced here since ancient times. We meet one of the beekeepers and learn about their traditional beekeeping method, housing bees in the hollowed out trunks of date palms. We have been working very closely with the local beekeepers to bring economic benefits and tourism to this charming community.

Then it is time to start driving up the Western Hajjar Mountains, rising over 2,000 meters. We explore the village of Al Hamra, at the foot of the mountains, where 400-year-old mud houses are still standing and occupied. To experience Nizwa, we will be staying at a traditional house in the old village of Misfat Al Abriyeen, where time stands still! (The house is clean and basic, with shared toilets, and caters to foreign tourists – alternative hotel accommodation available). Time permitting, we can take a walk around this village to see its fascinating history, agriculture and falaj watering system.

Overnight: Misfah Old House (traditional house – shared bathroom), Nizwa (1 night) (B, D)

Day 10: Nizwa/Wahiba Sands (Drive)

Forts and castles are Oman's most striking cultural landmarks. It is estimated that there are over 500 forts, castles and towers in Oman, each with a unique architecture and style. Today we will visit the Jabreen, perhaps the finest of them all. Its dungeons, passages, rooms and ceilings are decorated with fine carvings, paintings and inscriptions. Next enjoy a photo stop at the Bahla Fort*, a UNESCO site. We visit the 17th century circular Nizwa Fort and the Nizwa souq, famous for intricate silver jewelry. Built on a solid base of rock, the huge tower was designed to withstand the vibrations of 24 cannons. Continue our drive towards Wahiba Sands. Running south from the Eastern Hajjar Mountains to the Arabian Sea, the Wahiba Sands is a sand sea stretching hundreds of kilometers. The colourful and scenic dunes rise nearly 150 meters, making this the perfect place for both the romantic and the adventurous. The roller-coaster ride over these dunes will provide us with a thrill! Living within and along the sands are approximately 3,000 pastoralist Bedouins belonging to different tribes, along with their herds of goats and camels. We will have a chance to meet the Bedouin people, known for their friendliness and hospitality. At the camp, we have time to enjoy camel rides or simply explore the dunes on foot. The day culminates with viewing a spectacular sunset over the dunes, followed by dinner (generally BBQ).

Overnight: Desert Palm, Wahiba Sands (1 night) (B, D)

Day 11: Wahiba Sands/Coastal Oman/Old Muscat (Drive)

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat

An early morning rise to explore the dunes on foot and watch their shifting colours. Enjoy optional camel rides before bidding farewell to the dunes. As we drive to Muscat, we see a cross section of Oman’s geography, taking in arid lands, wadis and coastal villages. With stunning views of the waters of the Arabian Sea on one side and the rocky cliffs on the other, this is an exciting drive along the coast. We stop at the town of Sur for a short visit. Sur has historical importance and dhows used to sail from here to India and other countries. We also visit Ayja, a charming village with quaint houses on both sides of narrow alleys, and goats and sheep wandering the streets. Stop at the Bimah Sinkhole, a spectacular limestone crater with blue green water at the bottom.

Upon arrival in Muscat, we explore Old Muscat. A unique blend of ancient and modern, Muscat is a beautiful, clean city. First visit is the Bait Al Zubair Museum, which provides a window into Oman’s rich heritage and culture. Next is a photo stop at the magnificent Al Aalam Palace (the official residence of Sultan Qaboos), which is flanked by the twin Portuguese forts of Mirani and Jalali. Finally, we immerse ourselves in the enchanting Muttrah souq, with its narrow covered alleys and exotic smells of mounds of spices, coffees, ancient remedies and enticing perfumes.

Overnight: Al Falaj Hotel, Muscat (1 night) (B, L)

Day 12: Muscat/Dubai (Flight) (UAE)

We are transferred to the airport for our flight to Dubai, where the ultra-modern and the traditional exist side by side. We are welcomed upon arrival and transferred to our hotel. Balance of the day is free.

Overnight: Ramadha Inn Jumeira, Dubai (3 Nights) (B)

Day 13: Dubai

Dubai marina skyline

Enjoy a city tour of Dubai, the second largest Emirates in UAE. Dubai is famous for its wild and modern architecture designs. Our tour starts from the Jumeirah area, where we visit the magnificent Jumeirah Mosque, then drive on Jumeirah Beach Road, passing by to the Islamic Art Centre. Experience ultra-luxury with a photo stop in Burj Al Arab, the world-famous 7-star hotel. Continue to Sheikh Zayed Road and admire the modern skyscrapers lining the road. Next we experience Dubai’s rich history, including the wind tower houses towards the Bastakia area, the Al Fahidi Fort and the Dubai Museum. We end our tour through the many faces of Dubai with a creek-side cruise on an authentic Abra (an ancient local water taxi) and a pass by the spice and gold souk. Enjoy an afternoon high tea at Burj Al Arab before returning to the hotel. ( B, High Tea )

Day 14: Dubai

We have the day free to experience vibrant and ultra-modern Dubai. Relax, enjoy some world-class shopping or take part in optional activities, including a tour of Abu Dhabi, the thriving capital of the UAE, or an exciting desert safari through the arid lands surrounding Dubai. Please contact Bestway Tours & Safaris to pre-book. ( B )

ROAR AFRICA

The Greatest Safari on Earth: A monumental moment for us all.

ROAR AFRICA Emirates Executive Private Jet Safari

I'm not really sure how to describe my feelings, having just returned from our inaugural ROAR AFRICA Emirates Executive Private Jet Safari. Disbelief, pride, shock, hope, gratitude. This was a monumental moment in my life and that of  ROAR AFRICA  – an all-time high. For it was a journey that took on a far greater significance than we initially thought, reaffirming the importance of tourism, kickstarting the return of responsible travelers to Africa and most importantly, sending a message that travel is safe and trustworthy. As a team, we achieved the seemingly impossible, delivering a sold-out trip for 10 guests – requiring a level of such extreme detail that it felt like attempting a PhD in logistics. But then I've begun to liken the ROAR AFRICA team to navy seals, for the grace and flair with which they execute all of our journeys, and of course their astounding nerves of steel with this particular trip.

Going beyond first class

I now know what defines the new luxury nomad, for I had the privilege of hosting 10 of them on this journey. Ever-curious travelers in this ever-changing world, the new nomads equate luxury with going beyond first-class, with seamless execution, where airports and transfers are welcomed because of the ease with which they float through them. The new nomads are entirely comfortable with waking up in one country and leaving their luggage in their room; only to find it back in their room a few hours later, in another country.  This seamless, effortless experience was made possible by countless unseen details that ensured our guests gently embraced a whole new way of travel. Their yearning to connect with nature and their insistence on effecting positive change on the ground inspired me, while their willingness to undergo eight PCR tests in 12 days – seeing it as both necessary and selfless in this brave new world of ours – was incredible. And that we got through it all safely and without a single positive case is proof that travel is absolutely possible and safe when you are in the right hands. Africa in one fell swoop

It was a journey of many highlights, more than most pack into a lifetime. From the exquisite Emirates Executive Private Jet, kitted out with private cabins, spa bathrooms, and a wine list so good that one guest described it as “torture”,  to the fantastic cabin crew who looked after us like royalty. From the official launch in Dubai, where Khalid Al Hai cut the ribbon, to our touchdown in my home country of  Zimbabwe , where I thought my heart might burst with pride – and where the airport was opened early just for us. We hopped into helicopters for a spectacular flip over Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, followed by a river cruise and gin tasting at  Matetsi River Lodge  with Zimbabwean sommelier, winemaker and friend  Joseph Dhafana . It was all a little surreal, an emotional cocktail enhanced by the cry of fish eagles above and a blood-orange sun setting on a mighty river. I was back where I belonged, and the enormity of what this trip meant vibrated deep within my bones. Bringing this trip home meant witnessing the joy, hope, upliftment and pride of every Zimbabwean far and wide. I will carry the intensity of that first day with me always.

We ventured on to Duba Plains , Botswana , where we awoke to lions on the doorsteps of our tents in the Okavango Delta and watched movies under a bowl of stars. We soared above the majestic waterways in helicopters with no doors, full of adrenaline and pure delight at being alive. From there, we found ourselves enveloped in the warm embrace of Angama Mara in Kenya , the family property that Nicky Fitzgerald and her late husband Steve crafted so painstakingly as a legacy to the larger-than-life experiences they know to be home in Africa. Our days were spent hot-air ballooning over the Mara River and experiencing the instinctual thunder of wildebeest hooves as we sat watching the river crossing of the migration.

It was here that Kenya’s Minister of Tourism Honorable Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and CEO of the Kenya Tourism Board Allan Njoroge surprised us by joining us for dinner to welcome our guests, bearing gifts and all the trademark hospitality we’ve come to expect from Kenya. Our final leg took us to Rwanda where, upon touchdown, we were whisked skywards in helicopters and transported off to Singita’s magnificent Kwitonda Lodge at the foothills of Volcanoes National Park. In this deeply spiritual place, we were welcomed by GM Lydia Nzayo before embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime trek to experience the gentle humility of the world’s last mountain gorillas – a moving encounter which needs to be experienced to be understood. I have seen these gorillas a few times, but their performance for us was nothing short of a top Broadway show. Perhaps, as our guide Jolie said, they had had too many bamboo shoots that morning.

A transformational journey

By combining the mystique and adventure of traveling in Africa with a beyond-first-class experience for informed, conscious travelers, we witnessed the transformation of our guests and the hope we created for all in our industry. There’s a fate in our willingness to experience new things when we travel and when coupled with the enchantment and allure of the unknown, this takes us to a higher receptive and energetic realm. Of course, nowhere seems to trigger this faster or harder than on the African plains. The instant connection amongst our guests and their shared moments of awe and wonder left little question that this trip provided much more than memories but lifelong friendships.

It’s my sincere hope that this journey will inspire a new wave of responsible tourism back to Africa. The enormous pride and eternal hope of the African people in each country made us all the more aware of the essential role tourism plays in Africa and how much is at stake. All I can do now is encourage you to travel where it matters most and know that we will keep you safe.

And if you want to experience going beyond first class, then The Greatest Safari on Earth on the Emirates Executive Private Jet is the answer. I simply can’t wait to do this all over again in 2022 and 2023! It’s the greatest trip I’ve ever done in my life.
