Liverpool bus tours are the perfect solution if you want a crash course on Liverpool’s top attractions, facts and things to do.

Not all bus tours in Liverpool are created equally, but I do believe that there’s a bus tour to suit everybody.

In a hurry, and just want to know what the best bus tour in Liverpool is? No worries – it’s this one:

Liverpool tourist sightseeing bus tour

Top Pick: Best Liverpool Bus Tour > Liverpool City Sights Hop On Hop Off Includes: 14 stops, live commentary & glass of bubbly 🚌 BOOK NOW!

Whether you’re looking to learn more about Liverpool overall, delve deep into the Beatles’ connections to the city, or check out the most iconic Peaky Blinders filming locations, I’ve got you covered.

I’ve used my friends and readers’ recommendations, as well as my own knowledge of the various Liverpool tourist bus routes gained from over 30 trips to the city to pick out the very best for you!

I’ve split this post out into the best Liverpool city bus tours, best Beatles Liverpool bus tours, best Liverpool Peaky Blinders bus tours, and the best bus and ferry tour in Liverpool, so feel free to skip to the section that interests you most.

Let’s get started.

Table of Contents

Liverpool City Bus Tours

1. liverpool city sights 24hr hop-on hop-off open top bus tour.

⭐️ RATING: 4.5 out of 5 | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: Hop On Hop Off | 🚌 BOOK NOW!

This is the classic all-rounder when it comes to Liverpool bus tours. If you’ve never been to the city, this open top bus tour is the place to start.

This is the most popular overall bus tour in Liverpool, so you can’t go wrong with that!

What’s more, you have the option to hop on and hop off, so you’re able to explore any areas of Liverpool’s history that interest you.

Kicking off at the Royal Albert Dock, you’ll sail along Liverpool’s most famous streets , checking out the Cavern Club, the World Museum, both Liverpool Cathedrals, the Chinese Arch and a whole lot more.

The entire ride takes around 50 minutes, but, with all the hopping on and off you can do, you could make this journey last all day! At the end, you’ll get dropped off back at the Albert Dock with way more knowledge about the city than before.

I’m sure I don’t need to sweeten the deal, but just in case – your ticket includes a free glass of bubbly at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms, one of Liverpool’s most famous pubs!

Click here to book your place!

2. Liverpool City Explorer 24 Hour Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour

The blue and red logo of the Liverpool city explorer hop on hop off bus tour on the side of the yellow open top bus

⭐️ RATING: 4.6 out of 5 | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: Hop On Hop Off  | 🚌 BOOK NOW!

A close contender for the best open top bus tour of Liverpool is the Liverpool City Explorer bus .

Let’s be real here – there isn’t a whole lot of difference between this bus tour and the other hop on hop off tour we just discussed. They both make 14 stops, and I’m pretty sure the stops are the same.

They’re both open top buses, and they both last 50 minutes, although you can hop on and hop off at any stop.

The only difference is that the departure for this tour is near the Beatles Statue, instead of at the Albert Dock, and the ticket for this tour doesn’t include a free drink at the Philharmonic. That’s why its competitor got the #1 spot!

If you’re not able to book my #1 recommendation, though, this is another solid choice for a Liverpool open top bus tour.

Beatles Bus Tours in Liverpool

3. beatles magical mystery tour.

Ella with the yellow and blue Magical Mystery Tour bus in Liverpool

⭐️ RATING: 4.8 out of 5 | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours  | 🚌 BOOK NOW!

This is the absolute best Beatles bus tour of Liverpool, and that is the hill I will die on!

I have personally taken this tour (you can read about my experience here ) and truly believe that, for the price and duration, it cannot be beaten.

Instead of the Liverpool city centre bus tours, the Magical Mystery Tour takes you out to the suburbs to check out the most iconic Beatles sights.

We’re talking Penny Lane, all four Beatles’ childhood homes, Strawberry Field, and Paul and Georges’ former school, before ending up at the Cavern Club.

Along the way, you’ll be accompanied by Beatles tunes and the commentary of your local Beatles expert.

It’s a whistle-stop tour, packing in a tonne of sights into just two hours, but if you’re short on time or just want an overview of the Beatles’ main sights, this is my go-to recommendation.

Oh – and did I mention that your ticket includes free entry to the legendary Cavern Club? If you’re a Beatlemaniac, it doesn’t get better than that!

If you want to go more in-depth, your best bet is to join this Beatles taxi tour where you can go inside John and Paul’s old homes. Trust me – it’s worth it!

4. Liverpool City and Beatles Tour with Hop On Hop Off Ticket

John Lennon statue outside the Cavern Club in Liverpool. This is one of the top sights on Liverpool Beatles walking tours

⭐️ RATING: 4.8 out of 5 | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 1.5 hours  | 🚌 BOOK NOW!

This is the perfect combo if you want to combine your Beatles tour bus in Liverpool with checking out Liverpool’s overall top landmarks, all with a hearty dose of fascinating facts.

Why’s that? Well, remember the #1 recommendation I made for a hop on hop off Liverpool bus tour? This ticket includes a ride on that bus tour and then an additional Beatles-themed hop on hop off Liverpool sightseeing bus tour.

That’s right – you’ll get the best of both worlds!

As well as the city’s top sights you’ll make photo stops at Penny Lane and Strawberry Field before moving on to drive past Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s childhood homes (P.S. – you can’t go inside the houses on this tour – you’d need to join this one ).

And, of course, you’ll get to round off your jam-packed day of city and Beatles sightseeing with a free glass of bubbly at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms. It was one of John Lennon’s favourite Liverpool pubs!

5. Liverpool: Beatles Bus Tour with Strawberry Field Entry

The red painted gates, covered in Beatles graffiti, at Strawberry Field in Liverpool

⭐️ RATING: 4.2 out of 5 | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: Hop On Hop Off  | 🚌 BOOK NOW!

This is the only Liverpool Beatles bus tour that includes entry to (or even the opportunity to enter) Strawberry Field – famous thanks to the Lennon-written song Strawberry Fields Forever !

This Beatles bus tour is actually operated by Strawberry Field, who’ll pick you up on your tour bus at the Albert Dock, passing some of the city’s top sights as you make your way to Strawberry Field.

John Lennon grew up just around the corner from this former orphanage, which has now turned into a Beatles exhibition! As a child, he used to play in the grounds of Strawberry Field, which became the inspiration for his hit song!

As well as a stop for photos at Penny Lane, you’ll get to hop off at Strawberry Field to explore their Beatles exhibition, lovely gardens, and cafe, before heading back to the city centre.

A BIG WORD OF WARNING : many reviewers noted that they didn’t actually get to go inside Strawberry Field due to lack of time… That’s, obviously, not great. Although this only happened to a minority of reviewers, it’s clearly a risk.

For this reason, if you’re desperate to go inside Strawberry Field, I have a few alternative recommendations.

You can either take a private Beatles Taxi tour and specifically tell the guide that you want time to enter Strawberry Field, or simply head out to Strawberry Field from the city centre on the public bus (which is very easy to do).

Liverpool Peaky Blinders Bus Tours

6. liverpool peaky blinders full-day tour.

Derelict terraced houses on Powis Street in Toxteth, Liverpool painted black for use as a set for the TV series Peaky Blinders. You can visit this street on Liverpool Peaky Blinders bus tours.

⭐️ RATING: 4.9 out of 5 | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 8.5 hours  | 🚌 BOOK NOW!

Did you know that Peaky Blinders was filmed in Liverpool? Well, you do now!

If you’re a fan of the series you’ll find this full-day Peaky Blinders Liverpool bus tour the perfect deep dive into everything Peaky Blinders related in the city. The guides are well-known for their almost encyclopaedic knowledge of the series!

Since this is the in-depth, no-holds-barred Peaky Blinders bus tour of Liverpool, you won’t limit your exploration to just this city.

You’ll also make stops in Port Ellesmere, Cheshire, and Manchester, to see even more iconic Peaky Blinders filming locations.

You’ll get to check out Mosley’s rally, where Tommy and Luca had their showdown, the canal location used as “Camden Town”, the street where the car bomb exploded in season 5, the church where Tommy married Grace in season 3, and the Garrison from season 6, amongst other destinations.

Phew, that’s a lot!

Even if you’re not a Peaky Blinders fan, but you’re accompanying one on this tour, you’re in safe hands.

Plenty of reviewers have mentioned that, despite not being massive fans of the show, they had a great time and learned a lot about Liverpool as a whole.

7. Half-Day Peaky Blinders Tour of Liverpool

Old fashioned black car driving down a terraced street in Liverpool as part of the Peaky Blinders filming set

⭐️ RATING: 4.8 out of 5 | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 4 hours  | 🚌 BOOK NOW!

Interested in Peaky Blinders, but short on time? Or maybe you’re just a casual fan and don’t want to dedicate an entire day to Peaky Blinders tourism? No worries – this half-day option is perfect for you.

Instead of visiting filming locations in Liverpool, Manchester and Cheshire like the full-day tour, the half-day tour is limited to the Liverpool sights, including 10 locations from the show!

Boarding your tour bus in the city centre, you’ll learn all about the experience of filming the show in Liverpool, as well as the real life people Peaky Blinders was based on.

Your Peaky Blinders superfan guide has a stash of photos from the series to show when you’re in each location, bringing what you’re seeing to life and putting it into the context of the show.

Oh, and to pass the time whilst you’re driving you’ll get to watch clips of the show on the bus. Win!

Bus and Ferry Tours Liverpool

8. liverpool river cruise and hop on hop off bus tour.

The Mersey Ferry sailing along the River Mersey in Liverpool with the Liver Building in the background

⭐️ RATING: 4.6 out of 5 | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 1 hour 40  | 🚌 BOOK NOW!

Explore Liverpool from land and from the water on this bus and ferry tour combo ticket !

The Ferry Across the Mersey (famous thanks to the Gerry and the Pacemakers song) is one of the best things to do in Liverpool. It also allows you to explore far more of Liverpool’s docks, river and surroundings than you ever would on land.

Combine that with the Liverpool City Explorer hop on hop off bus, and you’ve pretty much got your Liverpool sightseeing needs covered from all angles!

As I mentioned earlier, the open top bus tour lasts 50 minutes if you were to stay on it for the entire tour (but, of course, you won’t be able to resist doing so!). Then, the Mersey Ferry tour lasts for 50 minutes too.

On the ferry, you’ll get pre-recorded (not live, unfortunately) commentary of what you’re looking at as you sail. You’d be surprised by just how many interesting buildings and landmarks surround Liverpool’s city centre along the river!

Liverpool Tour Bus Route – Common Stops

Royal albert dock.

Old brick buildings at the Albert Dock in Liverpool, a formerly UNESCO listed site

The Royal Albert Dock is Liverpool’s former UNESCO World Heritage Site and an absolute must visit on any trip to Liverpool. Luckily, on most of these Liverpool bus tours, the Albert Dock is included as a stop.

I recommend spending time walking the circumference of the dock, checking out the lovely scenery and snapping a bunch of photos. You won’t be able to resist!

Pier Head, where you’ll find the Royal Liver Building, Museum of Liverpool, the Beatles Statue , and the Mersey Ferry office, is a treasure trove of Liverpool attractions , and one of the most scenic points in the city. The old buildings here are just gorgeous!

Cavern Quarter

The Cavern Quarter, with Mathew Street as its centrepiece, is, you guessed it, named after the legendary Cavern Club. This is where The Beatles first became famous and grew a following, and now, this entire area of the city is full of live music venues and bars.

If you want to learn more about the Cavern Quarter, I recommend joining one of the city’s many guided walking tours , so that you can give it the deep dive it deserves!

Liverpool Anglican Cathedral

The gothic Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, a key stop on most Liverpool tourist bus routes

Liverpool has two famous cathedrals which are both, funnily enough, located on “Hope Street” (that’s my favourite bit of Liverpool trivia !). The Liverpool Anglican Cathedral is the real showstopper.

It’s the largest cathedral in the UK, the fifth-largest in Europe, and it took over 70 years to build!

Philharmonic Dining Rooms

This old-fashioned pub is downright gorgeous, and you can’t miss having a drink there!

It was one of John Lennon’s favourite pubs in Liverpool. Luckily, a free glass of bubbly here is included in your ticket to the Liverpool City Sights tour bus , which is what makes it my top pick for the best Liverpool bus tour!

Chinese Arch

Built in 2000, the Liverpool Chinese Arch marks the spot of the city’s Chinatown, home to the oldest Chinese community in Europe. It’s well worth a photo and feels like a small slice of China in the heart of Liverpool.

Penny Lane Liverpool England Street Sign against a brick wall.

Made famous by the Beatles song “ Penny Lane ”, this is one of the most iconic Beatles sights in the city. If you’re a Beatles fan, you can’t miss taking a selfie with the Penny Lane street sign!

John Lennon’s Childhood Home

John Lennon’s childhood home, also called Mendips, is located in the suburbs of Liverpool, and it’s surprisingly large and fancy for a so-called “working class hero”. John lived here with his Aunt Mimi in the 1950s.

Many Beatles Liverpool bus tours will make a stop at John Lennon’s house, but you’re not able to go inside the home unless you join a special Beatles homes tour .

Paul McCartney’s Childhood Home

Paul McCartney’s childhood home, like John’s, is located in the suburbs of Liverpool and feels far more working class than his bandmates’. That’s because, at the time Paul lived there, it was a council house.

Just like John’s house, most Liverpool Beatles tours will drop you off outside the house for photos, but you’re not allowed to enter. You’ll need to join the Beatles homes tour to take a look around inside.

FAQs on Liverpool Tour Buses

Port of Liverpool building near Pier Head in Liverpool. You can see various Liverpool tour buses in front of the building, as this is their departure point.

Does Liverpool have a tour bus?

Yes! Liverpool has many tour buses, including Beatles-themed and Peaky Blinders tours of Liverpool. Of course, if you’re just looking for a traditional open top or a Liverpool hop on hop off bus tour, you’re also spoilt for choice – there are plenty of options to choose from.

Does Liverpool have a hop on hop off bus?

Yes – Liverpool currently has two hop on hop off bus companies operating in the city, which both make 14 stops at some of the city’s very top attractions and last 50 minutes if you were to ride the entire route in one go. The best is the Liverpool City Sights bus tour as it includes a free glass of prosecco.

How much is the hop on hop off bus in Liverpool?

There are numerous hop on hop off buses in Liverpool, but you can expect to pay between £12 and £15 for a ticket for a hop on hop off bus tour of Liverpool’s classic city centre sights.

How long is the Beatles bus tour in Liverpool?

The Magical Mystery Tour, the most famous and popular Beatles bus tour in Liverpool, lasts for 2 hours. Other Beatles bus tours in Liverpool offer hop on hop off options and would last 50 minutes if you were to ride the entire route without getting off at any stops, but will obviously last far longer if you make a few stops.

Final Thoughts: Best Bus Tours in Liverpool

Ella standing outside the entrance to the Cavern Club in Liverpool in winter

There we have it – I’ve shared absolutely everything I know about the best bus tours in Liverpool with you today and, hopefully, I’ve helped you to pick the perfect bus tour for you.

Need a refresher? No worries. This is my top pick for Liverpool city sightseeing , and this is my favourite Liverpool Beatles bus tour .

There’s no need to leave just yet, though!

Liverpool is definitely worth an extended visit , and I have a whole host of other Liverpool, (and Beatles) posts on this site, all aimed at helping you to plan your dream trip to Liverpool.

I recommend starting by checking out my bite-sized day trip itinerary for Liverpool, and my guide to where to find the best 2 for 1 cocktails in the city (because who doesn’t love a bargain?!).

Are you a newbie Beatlemaniac? Then you’ll love my crash-course guides to how long the band were really together , and who the original Beatles members were.

best liverpool city tour

Liverpool will kick off their pre-season tour in the USA this summer with a game against Real Betis at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Friday July 26 (kick-off 7.30pm EST).

The Reds last met the Spanish outfit back in the autumn of 2005 in the group stage of the Champions League, when Rafael Benitez's defending champions won 2-1 away from home before a goalless draw at Anfield.

The club will return to the USA this summer for the first time since 2019 and matches have already been announced with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.

The Arsenal game takes place on July 31 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and will be followed by the encounter with United at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina on August 3.

A pre-sale code will be made available for the Real Betis fixture for LFC Official Members, season ticket holders, official LFC supporters clubs, hospitality members and international academies. This can be used to purchase tickets from 3pm BST/10am EST/7am PST on Wednesday April 10.

Tickets will go on general sale to the public from 2pm BST/9am EST/6am PST on Thursday April 11 via Ticketmaster.

Ben Latty, the club's commercial director, said: "Adding Pittsburgh to our pre-season tour schedule is a great way to start our eagerly anticipated return to the USA.

"We were delighted to quickly sell out our fixtures against Arsenal and Manchester United on this tour and are equally excited to be able to offer our supporters in the States another opportunity to see Liverpool FC play. Real Betis will come with a strong squad and it's going to be a great occasion in another iconic setting, in another fantastic US city."

Liverpool turning wobbly under the weight of Klopp’s farewell tour

best liverpool city tour

Dublin was supposed to be the send-off. Liverpool Football Club, from a city with a rich Irish heritage, would be playing in a city where it holds a large support. Jurgen Klopp would be seen off in style by winning the Europa League.

It can be problematic finding accommodation in Ireland’s capital at the best of times, but Dublin has been booked out for many months, hotels snaffled up, fees non-refundable for May 22, the day of the final, and the day after.

Liverpool pre-season 2024: New friendly confirmed for USA tour as date and location announced

L iverpool has confirmed another pre-season friendly fixture in the USA this summer, with the Reds set to take on the Spanish outfit Real Betis in Pittsburgh. Under a new manager who will take over from Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool is set to head to the US for the first time in five years.

The US trip, which already included matches against Manchester United and Arsenal, was confirmed in February. The last time that Liverpool headed Stateside was the summer of 2019, just after the Reds had become European champions for the sixth time. Since then, a combination of Covid and then commercial opportunities in Asia have meant that they have not gone back until now.

In 2019, Liverpool played against Borussia Dortmund , Sevilla and Sporting CP in New York, Boston and Indiana. The Reds played on the west coast of the US during Klopp's first summer in charge back in 2016 with friendly fixtures against Chelsea , AC Milan and AS Roma.

This time, Liverpool was already confirmed to be playing Arsenal on Wednesday, July 31 in Philadelphia and then Manchester United in South Carolina on Saturday, August 3, meaning the Reds are staying on the east coast of the US. Now, the extra game has been penciled in for Friday, July 26.

The match against Real Betis will be staged at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. The new manager will also be able to use the time in the US to continue preparations for the new season on the training field.

"Adding Pittsburgh to our pre-season tour schedule is a great way to start our eagerly anticipated return to the USA," Ben Latty, the club's commercial director, said, via the official website .

"We are proud to announce our highly anticipated return to the USA providing a great environment for the squad to prepare for the season ahead," Latty said via the club's official website in February. "Pre-season tours always present exceptional opportunities for our supporters, the team and our official partners to engage in memorable experiences within a key focus market for the club."

The 2024/25 season in the Premier League will kick off on the weekend of August 17 and 18. The fixture list is usually published a few weeks after the prior campaign has come to a close. Liverpool will hope to begin life under a new head coach as league champion, with the Reds currently level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table with seven matches left to play.

Liverpool.com says: A return to the US will be big news for fans in America after so long without the chance to see the Reds on home soil. It will be a very different summer for Liverpool, of course, without Klopp in charge. There is also the impact of the European Championship in Germany to consider.

That tournament takes place from mid-June to mid-July so there is a good chance that a number of players involved in that will not be traveling to the US. They might need an extended break in what looks set to be another packed close season in which the majority of stars get very little in the way of a proper rest.

The Premier League is heading for a classic title race, with Manchester City , Liverpool and Arsenal set for a three-way battle as the season enters the run-in.

Manchester City, the defending champions, are aiming to win a fourth league title in a row under Pep Guardiola – a feat that has never been achieved in the history of English football. City blew Arsenal away in last year’s run-in, but the Gunners are back in the fight this campaign.

The Premier League is now in Arsenal’s hands after Liverpool, who stood eight games away from the title, dropped points against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Jurgen Klopp has turned to mind games to put the pressure on Mikel Arteta ’s challengers, who are attempting to win their first league title in 20 years .

But City are lurking, and now have a favourable run ahead of them. So, with seven games to go, which team has the best fixtures and who has the hardest run of games to end the season? Here’s where the title could be won and lost...

  • Why this unprecedented Premier League title race is needed more than ever
  • The concerning Erling Haaland trend Man City can no longer ignore
  • Liverpool ‘lost the plot’ and now Jurgen Klopp’s perfect farewell is in danger

The double treble is still on, and Manchester City are lurking ominously after returning to goalscoring form. The champions were unable to beat either Liverpool or Arsenal in their two title showdowns either side of the international break, results that left the champions third in the title race.

But they have since hit four goals in the wins over Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, a strong response to their frustrating stalemate against the Gunners.

City, after all, have been here before and their fixtures are looking favourable now those games against Liverpool and Arsenal are out of the equation. Up next, City’s April schedule in the Premier League involves games against teams in the Premier League’s bottom four in Luton Town and Nottingham Forest. A visit to out-of-form Brighton follows on Thursday 25 April.

It leaves a trip to Tottenham, where City have never won in the Premier League under Guardiola, as their toughest fixture of the run-in. That fixture will now be played in the final week of the season after City reached the FA Cup semi-finals. It could be a must-win match for Ange Postecoglou’s side, too, as Spurs aim to secure Champions League qualification. Tottenham will now what they need by then, too, after already facing Arsenal and Liverpool.

Still involved in three competitions, City have the busiest schedule of the Premier League title contenders, although Luton at home in between a Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid. City will host Madrid on Wednesday after a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Bernabeu.

Have Mikel Arteta’s side learnt their lesson from last season? The Gunners won just three of their final nine Premier League games last year, which included a four-game winless run, as they fell away in the title race.

But a 0-0 draw at the Etihad, where they were thrashed 4-1 last season, is a sign that Arsenal are tougher challengers than they were this time last year. They now hold the advantage over Liverpool on goal difference, after the Reds dropped points at Old Trafford. Could that result be a sign of the twists and turns ahead? After all, Arsenal still have to go to Old Trafford themselves on the penultimate weekend of the season.

Arsenal lost the title away from home last year and their fate this season will be determined on the road again. But Arteta’s side are looking immense defensively away from home and have kept five clean sheets in a row in the Premier League after making light work of Brighton . The Gunners possess the best goal difference in the Premier League - and that could be crucial.

There are still tricky tests to come - first up against Aston Villa on Sunday, and then what is shaping up to be an epic against Tottenham on Sunday 28 April. The fact that both Villa and Spurs are in the fight for the top four and potentially the final Champions League spot only adds to the drama.

Meanwhile, participation in the latter stages of the Champions League will also make this season’s title race a different challenge. Arsenal will face travel to Bayern Munich on Wednesday after playing out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Emirates.

After near misses in 2019 and 2022, Liverpool knew they must be close to perfect to dethrone Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the title race - so a draw at Old Trafford will hurt.

Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool not to panic, as the Reds remain right in the race. They will be hoping Arsenal slip up and take advantage of what is a favourable run of fixtures ahead of May - even if a trip to Goodison Park and a midweek Merseyside Derby represents the same sort of emotional occasion that Liverpool struggled with at Old Trafford.

Of the title contenders, Liverpool have the trickiest final-three, and the other key clashes to look out for are those against sides chasing Champions League football. Liverpool face Tottenham at Anfield before a trip to Aston Villa on Monday night in the final week of the season, giving Liverpool a tough final trio of games in May when Wolves at home on the final day is also considered.

Having already won the Carabao Cup, the Reds were favourites to reach the Europa League final and the Dublin showpiece on 22 May. But a shock 3-0 defeat to Atalanta at Anfield means that is now looking unlikely, which could leave Klopp just the Premier League to fight for in his final few weeks in charge.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Liverpool suffered a major blow to their Premier League title hopes as they were shockingly beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Eberechi Eze finished a smart team move early in the game for Oliver Glasner's visitors and though Jurgen Klopp's side pushed hard for the equaliser, their wastefulness in front of goal proved costly with Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah among those culpable.

Palace had chances to extend their lead, Jean-Philippe Mateta having one effort cleared off the line by Andy Robertson and another saved superbly by the returning Alisson but they did not need a second. The three points lift them above Brentford into 14th.

But the consequences for Liverpool are more significant. Having started the day in third, this was an opportunity to move back to the top of the Premier League table. Instead, they risk falling off the pace, Klopp's final season in danger of finishing in disappointment.

How Liverpool were denied by Palace

Liverpool were looking to respond to their defeat to Atalanta but Palace started stronger, Eze testing Alisson within the first minute of the match. He did not have to wait long to find the net, finishing off a slick move that saw Tyrick Mitchell find him from the left.

With Michael Olise back alongside him in the line-up, Eze was a real menace, although it was hulking striker Mateta who came close to doubling the advantage soon after. He beat Alisson but Robertson's goal-line clearance denied the Palace man his moment.

  • Ibrahima Konate and Curtis Jones returned to the Liverpool team with the big news being Alisson's inclusion in goal.
  • Oliver Glasner made two changes to his Crystal Palace team with Nathaniel Clyne in against his former club and Michael Olise back.

Liverpool were ragged at times in the opening 45 minutes, although they did create chances. Wataru Endo scooped the ball against the crossbar, while Luis Diaz was denied by Dean Henderson from a tight angle. But Palace's threat on the counter-attack remained.

Klopp made an attacking substitution at half-time, bringing on Dominik Szoboszlai for Endo, and an injury to Conor Bradley saw him turn to Trent Alexander-Arnold minutes into the second half. Liverpool threw everything at Palace and chances started to flow.

Big chance for Nunez

Darwin Nunez had a glorious chance to level it from close range but struck the bouncing ball straight at Henderson. Klopp threw on Jota and Cody Gakpo but still the equalising goal would not come, even as the pressure on Palace continued to grow.

Jota had a wonderful chance when set up by Szoboszlai but his tame effort was blocked by Nathaniel Clyne. Mateta had a straightforward chance at the other end after latching onto Joachim Andersen's knockdown but Alisson somehow contrived to deflect it wide.

Liverpool go close

It was desperate stuff and the misses kept coming - Jones directed his shot wide of the target after being put through one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Liverpool's finishing had been questioned even before the game, but this was outrageously wasteful.

Salah - "not at the races," according to Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher - thought he had his goal late on but Mitchell again blocked from near the line. The equaliser eluded them and so it seems will this title in Klopp's final season, one that has unravelled in a miserable week.

Mohamed Salah rues a missed chance against Crystal Palace

FPL stats: Liverpool 0-1 Crystal Palace

Klopp: it was horrible to watch.

"The first half was absolutely not good enough," Klopp told Sky Sports . "We showed a reaction second half. We lost conviction from the last game. We concede the goal, which is a horrible goal. A completely free player in the six-yard box, that cannot happen.

"From that moment on, Crystal Palace didn't have that many. We controlled the second half better. I think we can easily say, if you don't score with these chances, what can you say? We tried a structure change and caused them real problems.

"If you would look at my teams throughout the years, you would say our pressing is good, our counter-press is there, but it is just we are open. How can that happen? Curtis was the only one really chasing. They could play through. It was horrible to watch.

"That's how humans react sometimes. It happens. The conviction was not there. We were far apart from each other, last line too deep, midfield not really there. First line didn't really start the press. That's all true. Where it's coming from? I cannot answer that 100 per cent.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

"Here we stand, lost the game, feel really rubbish and now we need a bit of time to process that. It's a really bad moment, the second home game in a row we lose. I cannot pick anyone up in this moment, that would not be honest. I stand here and feel really average, or below. I cannot change the world in interviews. I need time to think about it.

"If we play like we did in the first half, why should we win the league? If we play like we did in the second half yeah, we can pick up points here and there."

Glasner: We defended with every single cell

"First half was really brilliant, how we played and defended," Palace boss Glasner told Sky Sports . "Also the confidence we had in possession, with the goal we scored. What was perfect was our patience, our desire, our spirit.

"There was so much pressure from Liverpool and we defended with every single cell. We got the rewards so congrats on the team for the performance. We needed everybody on their best level.

best liverpool city tour

"We defended as a team and that's what it needs to have a clean sheet here. It was a great afternoon for us. Second half we didn't have the ball for many minutes. We had a great mentality.

"In some situations you need the luck, but you don't get it as a gift, you have to deserve it. And today the players deserved it because of their spirit and passion. I was proud to be the manager of this team."

Redknapp: It should have been 6-2

"The damage was done at Manchester United last week," said Sky Sports' Jamie Redknapp, referring to the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in a game that Liverpool dominated. Once again, their wastefulness in front of goal has cost them points - and perhaps the title.

"You can see the effect it had in midweek. They have not been able to take chances and put teams away. They just did not look like scoring. It should have been 6-2 in the end. But they just haven't got that belief right now. That is how it can turn on you sometimes."

Liverpool had chances against Crystal Palace but could not score

Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace prediction, pick: Premier League odds, best bet for Saturday

Liverpool is a huge favorite on Sunday morning.

Liverpool needs to get all three points against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Reds’ title hopes already hit a speedbump last weekend when they tied Manchester United, 2-2, and allowed Arsenal to overtake their spot at the top of the table, so losing any more ground would likely doom Liverpool in this three-team race for the trophy .

The good news is that Liverpool is a massive favorite over Palace and they’re at home, but this may not be a straightforward contest for the Reds.

Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace prediction

(9 a.m. ET, NBC Sports)

It’s been a pretty ugly stretch for Crystal Palace since Oliver Glasner took over in the dugout for Roy Hodgson.

The Eagles have won just once in six games for their new manager and it’s taken some time for their attack to show signs of life. It did look like things may have started to come together last weekend, however.

Not only did Palace get out to an early lead against Manchester City, but the Eagles created 1.5 expected goals. Perhaps some score effects played a part, but it was still an encouraging sign for an attack that looked dormant for weeks before the City match.

Palace should be able to carry some of that momentum into Sunday’s match with a Liverpool defense that has shown to be vulnerable on plenty of occasions this season.

Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace.

It’s been a rough 10 days for Liverpool. It was able to grind out a 3-1 victory against last-place Sheffield United a week and a half ago, but the Reds were a bit fortunate with how that game played out.

The Blades had a couple of Grade A chances right out of the gates and were tied with Liverpool into the 75th-minute, but the Reds were able to find a wondergoal from Alexis Mac Allister to settle the nerves.

A few days later, the Reds wouldn’t be so lucky as Manchester United held them to a 2-2 draw, and then Atalanta stormed them, 3-0, at Anfield in the Europa League quarterfinals.

Liverpool clearly seems to be going through a bit of a wobble at the moment and they seem at their most vulnerable early in matches. Liverpool has trailed at halftime on five different occasions this season, but they’ve been level 15 times, as well.

They’re a dynamite second-half team, but it does seem that Jurgen Klopp’s side has some issues navigating the early stages of a match.

It’s unlikely Palace can handle Liverpool over 90 minutes, but the +750 odds on the Eagles to bring a lead into halftime certainly seems worth it.

In the U.S., totality will end in Maine, but the eclipse will eventually enter the maritime provinces of Canada.

Other major cities along the eclipse's path of totality include San Antonio and Austin, Texas; Indianapolis; and Rochester and Syracuse, New York.
