Star Trek: Fleet Command is an interesting mobile MMORTS game developed by Digit Games, and published by Scopely and CBS Interactive for Android and IOS. The game allows you to take command over a fleet and fight with other players. There are lots of different ships with different roles and you should learn about the best of them. Those who use the better ships will get an advantage over other players. This guide will tell you about the best ships in Star Trek: Fleet Command.

Ships in Star Trek: Fleet Command

Before we will start to talk about the best ships in Star Trek: Fleet Command we need to tell you about the ships’ balance and types in this game. There are a few types of ship that are called Battleship, Interceptor, Explorer, and Survey ship. We will divide our list into a few categories to mention the best ships of each of the types that are able to fight.

Here is the list of the best ships in Star Trek: Fleet Command:

Best Explorers

Turas is a great Explorer ship and it is very easy to get due to the fact that it belongs to the common vessels category. Its mobility is really high and it deals additional damage to the enemy ships.

Jellyfish (Medusa) is a problematic ship to get as it is a rare vessel. However, it is one of the top-tier Explorers and it has high mobility. So, this ship should be good against the enemy Interceptors.

Talla is another good Battleship. This vessel is common and easy to get. It has good armor and deals increased damage to Explorers.

Best Interceptors

D3 Class is a good ship against the Romulan faction due to the fact that its weapons deal increased damage to this faction’s ships.

Star Trek Fleet Command on PC: Guide to the Best Early Game Ships

best ships star trek fleet command

Initially, Star Trek Fleet Command had many of its best ships faction-locked, which meant that for most of the strongest units, it was necessary to farm reputation with the faction they belonged to. If you wanted the USS Mayflower, you needed Federation rep, whereas a Legionary would have similar requirements from the Romulan side.

While we do understand the role-play motivation behind this decision, it made the game grind-intensive, not to mention the fact that many quests with one faction had negative effects on your reputation with the other two.

Star Trek Fleet Command on PC: Guide to the Best Early Game Ships

In a previous article , we discussed some of the fundamentals of expanding your fleet, as well as how to improve each ship that you build. Now, it’s time we focus on the ships that are truly impressive in combat and when farming for different resources. The information here is intended as complementary to our BlueStacks guide to the best crew set-ups . Ensuring that your officers have direct, but also morale synergies between them can often render your cruiser significantly more powerful.

The Best Beginner Ships

Whether you’re looking to raid some miners, come out on top in PvP engagements, or even destroy a few bases, these ships are the ones most likely to help you emerge victorious. To begin with, the main quest will ask you to build several ships, such as the Orion and ECS Fortunate. Although they’re not the strongest, they will be very useful throughout the game. The first decent Interceptor you get is the Phindra, yet many believe it’s not worth making it due to it being weaker than the Turas.

Star Trek Fleet Command on PC: Guide to the Best Early Game Ships

However, up until you reach level 20 and become able to make a Kehra, the former is the only decent unit of its class you can use against Battleships. You might not think this is such a big deal, but, with the right crew, you can really take advantage of the combat triangle system. For this reason, it’s crucial that you have one good ship of each type in your dry docks. Take a look at our most recent victory. Our 1.7k Battleship was able to defeat a 2.3k Explorer simply because of affinity.

Star Trek Fleet Command on PC: Guide to the Best Early Game Ships

Still, it might be a good idea not to throw all of your resources at the Turas. A balanced strategy would be to wait until you get the Phindra and prioritize it, instead. After you’ve managed to get some good levels in it, you should switch back to the Turas and reinforce it as much as possible. The Jellyfish is naturally a better choice than the latter, but, given that it’s a rare, you might not have access to it.

The Best Raiders

Now, as you level up a bit more and get to level 14, you’ll be able to build the Talla. This is an incredibly powerful vessel that can easily carry you up to level 20 if properly crewed and upgraded. More importantly, you can use it to defend your miners by hiding underneath their nodes. Enemy raiders won’t see you and you’ll be able to engage them seconds before they attack your mining ship, thereby saving important resources and catching them off-guard. This unit of Andorian design is particularly useful for destroying enemy Turas’, against which it does 10% more damage.

What’s more, against Hostiles of your level, you’re given significant Shield Pierce, Armor Pierce, and Accuracy. All of these will be improved the more you level the ship, as well as your Operations. Talla starts with a warp speed of 12 and if you upgrade it to as little as 19, you can easily start breaching faction territory. For mining purposes, this can be pretty impactful, since you won’t be killed as often in Federation, Klingon, or Romulan space.

Star Trek Fleet Command on PC: Guide to the Best Early Game Ships

One of the strongest raiders for F2P players in the beginning of the game is the Kumari, so much so that you can initially skip making the Kehra and the Vahklas for it. All three of them require 3-star mats to be made, which are particularly difficult to get, at least initially. For this reason, you’ll want to prioritize the strongest ship first and then go for the other two.

Star Trek Fleet Command on PC: Guide to the Best Early Game Ships

Mining and killing hostiles takes a long time, whereas raiding players is super easy. Particularly when there’s an event going on, the Kumari Battleship will help you achieve a top score effortlessly and in a short amount of time. The Kehra is a strong choice for daily quests and missions, but it does not have the destructive power of the former. Playing STFC on BlueStacks, we were able to attack players just in the nick of time due to the seamless performance of the game.

Star Trek Fleet Command on PC: Guide to the Best Early Game Ships

This can be tricky on a mobile device, since you need to get the timing right. Once a ship has arrived in a system, the enemy can change its destination in order to avoid getting trapped. As such, it is crucial that you are able to time your counter-attack just right when you’re defending a miner.

The Best Early Miners

Perhaps the best piece of advice that you can follow in terms of mining resources is to always use those cruisers that are specifically suited to this role. Battleships, Explorers, and Interceptors are not only less proficient at this task, but will also cost significantly more to repair when they’re attacked and destroyed by enemy vessels. And rest assured, attacked they will be.

The Envoy is an incredibly powerful miner that you get fairly early on, at level 16. Whatever you do, do not skip on it. Even though it is specialized for Tritanium, the right crew can provide a noteworthy boost to the mining of any resource.

Star Trek Fleet Command on PC: Guide to the Best Early Game Ships

As a captain, Helvia will give you a massive 40% boost to Parsteel mining, while K’Bisch will do a 40% boost to Tritanium prospecting when assigned to the same position. Even over just a couple of hours of mining, such a crew set-up will have a massive impact on your ability to gather resources. If you know you’ll be attacked a lot, don’t be afraid to guard your miner with a Kumari while you play. You’d be surprised at how many raids you can fend off in this manner.

With this in mind, you are now equipped to raid, mine, and defend your ships like a true space station commander. Whatever you do, never forget to have fun – it is a game, after all. There will always be stronger players, both F2P and P2W – a brutal, yet simple fact. Sometimes, they might raid you and steal your resources. However, if you’re careful and do everything in your power to protect your base, as well as upgrade your ships and crew, you’ll have a decent shot at this Star Trek MMORTS.

Officers belong to factions, and based on that, they share some general characteristics and abilities as follows:

  • Federation:  Officers of this faction are defense-oriented.
  • Ability : Morale
  • Klingon : Klingon Officers are mainly focused on attack.
  • Ability : Hull Breach
  • Romulan:  This faction's Officers offer utility and health growth.

In addition, they are also members of various groups .

Crew Synergy

Crew synergy bonus

Deploying crew members of the same group , will provide a synergy bonus to the Captain's Maneuver ability, increasing its effectiveness.

Best Crews in Star Trek Flee Command

For example, a crew that increases the mining rate of gas is great for mining gas, obviously, but it's not beneficial when it comes to battle.

Additionally, each faction complements the strengths of a certain ship type as follows:

  • Federation : Explorer
  • Klingon : Interceptor
  • Romulan : Battleship

Synergy bonus, as powerful as it is, it's not everything in some cases. There are Officers abilities that work extremely well against a certain type of enemy, or compliment another officer, regardless of their group.

So in that sense, we can't say that there's one crew that's the best at everything. For better or worst, that's not how Star Trek Fleet Command works.

Fighting Hostiles

Pike Moreau crew combination

If you have these two, even at lower levels, you are set, at least when it comes to farming hostiles. Pike and Moreau are the core, but the 3rd member of your crew can be either Chen or T'Laan depending on the enemies you are facing.

best ships star trek fleet command

But of course, especially as a new player, it's more likely not to have Epic or even Rare officers. In that case, you can go with high level Cadet or Next Gen combinations.

A Next Gen crew would look something like this:

  • Joachim
  • Marla McGivers

Best mining crew combination

  • Barot

These are just some examples of great crew combinations against certain game content. Hopefully, with the information we've provided here, you can figure out on your own which of your available officers are the best for the ships that you have.

Carnac's Guide to Star Trek Fleet Command

Carnac | August 11, 2020 July 15, 2020 | Independent Ship , Ships

The newest ship in Star Trek Fleet Command is the Stella. It was launched as Harry Mudd’s ship as part of the Outlaws II event in July 2020. It’s a battleship that packs a pretty good punch and is designed for fighting Eclipse ships. Say that three times fast.

How Does One Get A Stella?

By completing Milestones 5 and 10 of the Outlaws II BattlePass , and completing the Unlock Stella research. You’ll need to have a shipyard of at least level 27 to construct it.

best ships star trek fleet command

She’s then really cheap and quick to build, and equally cheap to upgrade.

How Do I Use Her?

The Stella’s ship ability is “Master Thief” which increases the reward you get from Eclipse hostiles and Armada Targets by 200% at level 1, and goes all the way up to 600% by level 45.

So you’ll likely use her just for Eclipse Survey ships and Eclipse Armadas. Someone on my Facebook page said that she’s a one-trick pony. Close. She’s a two-trick pony.

And you may be saying that you can get just as many of the Eclipse Security Codes by using an Intrepid or other such ship – and you probably can. Probably easily. The difference will be in the repair costs. My Intrepid gets about as many codes as the Stella does, but the Intrepid takes 6.5 hours to repair. The Stella takes just 31 minutes.

Out of the box, with the Pike crew could take out a level 32 Eclipse survey ships, but not level 33s. It was much more comfortable taking out the 29s and 30s.

best ships star trek fleet command

The big thing you’ll notice when upgrading your Stella is that that it only costs Uranium. The other thing you’ll notice is that there are no warp engines to upgrade.

They’re improved through research.

It’s got Shields, Armor, and Impulse Engines for defense – and kinetic Photon Torpedoes and two Pulsed Phasers.

One might hope that it was equally strong in all three phases of defense, but it’s not. It’s a standard battleship weighting – but the upgrades to the shields and impulse engines do help.

And on offense, it’s got a great firing pattern, with two energy weapon shots in the first round, and two kinetic shots every other round.

Improving Your Stella

It was designed as a “Build-And-Scrap Ship,” in that you’ll improve it by continually building, improving, and scrapping your Stella. The components of the Stella take mostly Uranium to upgrade, which you’ll get in the faction store in exchange for Exchange Vault Loot.

It’s also got a bunch of dedicated research upgrades. This is where you’re going to be improving this ship in the long run – with ship specific research. More on that later.

Improve your mental health in the most convenient and affordable way with an online therapy at Talkspace.com!

When Should I Scrap It?

In the long run, you’re going to want to time this out in concert with your research,

Right now, you’re going to want to use this ship as much as you can to grind during the Clear the Coast Leaderboard event . So timing it up with events will be important.

If you’re tempted to just build and scrap it right away, don’t. There’s a mission you’ll get quickly after getting it that requires you to defeat 18 level 26 hostiles with your Stella.

scrapping the stella

The difference between scrapping a level 10 and level 15 is 100 Stella particles. It’ll also take two more hours to scrap. So for the purposes of this event, I’d recommend scrapping at level 10.

Update – now that the event is over, here’s a guide to scrapping , which includes the recent updates .

There’s also a mission that requires you to scrap your Stella.

Stella Research

The Stella particles you get from scrapping the Stella will help you complete Stella-specific research. Both “Stella Weaponry” and “Stella Hull” require 200 Stella particles to unlock.

You’ll also need an “Alpha Particle” which will make you choose between the two research branches.

And of course, Scopely being Scopely, the number of particles required for these techs skyrockets

And this is just for one tech. 354,180 Stella particles. Now, scrapping a level 45 ship will get you 29,950 particles, but still, that’s scrapping it 12 times at level 45 for to max one tech.

And many of the techs after Anarchist Weaponry in the Outlaw Research tree involve Stella particles. You’re going to be building and scrapping this ship like it’s flipping Groundhog Day.

Crewing Your Stella

For hunting the Eclipse Survey ships, I’d recommend using the Pike – Moreau -Chen crew. If you don’t have the PMC Crew, go with your Starfleet Academy crew.

For Armadas, I’d strongly consider using Khan with this one, for his critical hit bonus, as you’re going to have a lot of bites at the apple.

the stella tries to escape from Enterprise

In TOS, the Stella was Mudd’s tiny Class J Ship. It was named for his estranged wife, Stella, and was destroyed after hitting an asteroid just five minutes into the episode.

Mudd’s ship was never named on-screen. It was later named by the great Visual Effects Producer Mike Okuda during the 2008 remastering of the Original Series. The ship was named ironically, as Mudd escaped from his wife Stella (from “ I, Mudd “) on a ship he called the “Stella.”

Mudd’s wife was played in I, Mudd by actress Kay Elliot . Elliot later appeared three times in three different on Bewitched, most notably as Aunt Hagatha. And four other actresses also played Hagatha.

Star Trek Fleet Command: What the Best Faction Is

Image of Wesley LeBlanc

What the Best Faction is in Star Trek Fleet Command

When you’re first starting out in the popular mobile game, Star Trek Fleet Command , you’ll have to decide what faction you want to align with and that decision can affect the rest of your time with the game. Here’s what the best faction is in Star Trek Fleet Command .

While you’re free to decide exactly what route in the galaxy you wish to go, we recommend starting with The Federation. Not only is it the easiest route, but they also has the best start in terms of storyline.

In the Federation, you will have some of the worst ships in the game — they aren’t bad by any means, but rather, baseline — but the most variety in those ships, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Klingon Defense Force comes with cruisers and escorts that far outweigh those of the other factions. They’re basically the same ships, but with more strategic setups (and less customization). For example, a KDF ship might have a cloaking device and dual heavy cannons, something a Romulan ship is not likely to have.

Beyond the ships, the KDF also includes Nausicaan Bridge Officers which come with the pirate space trait. This trait gives you a 1.5 percent damage bonus and an additional 150 point stealth bonus in space.

Finally, there’s the Romulans, which we believe to be the best faction in the game. Not only are they cool (it’s Romulans, come on), they can fly their allied ships as well.

Because they can ally with the Federation and KDF, this gives them a leg up in things like space combat. The bridge officers of the Romulans also come with awesome stat bonuses like increased critical hit chances.

Furthermore, the Romulans are also the DPSs of this game and with combat being the best thing about the game, you can’t go wrong with this faction. Finally, the Romulans have one of the most story-driven narratives so if you’re looking for some Star Trek lore, this faction is for you.

That’s all for  what the best faction is in Star Trek Fleet Command. For more information about Star Trek Fleet Command, be sure to search Twinfinite . We’ve got a handy  beginner tips guide  you might find useful.

Question: What is the best faction in Star Trek Fleet Command?

Answer: We recommend starting with The Federation.

Star trek: ds9 foreshadowed voyager’s fate a year earlier.

In 1994, Star Trek began laying the groundwork for Voyager's 1995 premiere with a stark warning from Sisko about both the Maquis and the Badlands.

  • DS9 set the stage for Voyager's fate, including the introduction of the Maquis and the crucial Badlands location.
  • Commander Sisko's pursuit of the Maquis in DS9 foreshadowed Voyager's disappearance in the Badlands.
  • The Badlands played a significant role in Voyager's pilot episode, setting the stage for the crew's journey to the Delta Quadrant.

The fate of the USS Voyager was foreshadowed by Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 2. With Star Trek: Voyager slated to premiere in January 1995, DS9 season 2 and Star Trek: The Next Generation season 7 laid some of the groundwork for the new show. The biggest way that DS9 and TNG set up Voyager was the introduction of the Maquis, the terrorist organization that would provide the rogue element in Voyager 's cast of characters. The TNG episode "Journey's End" set up the political situation from which they originated, while DS9 's two-parter "The Maquis" formally introduced them to the Star Trek universe .

Several Maquis members, including Commander Chakotay (Robert Beltran) and Lt. B'Elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) would later be forced to join the crew of the USS Voyager. However, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 's Maquis two-parter set up the plot of Star Trek: Voyager in other ways, too . Halfway through "The Maquis", Gul Dukat (Marc Alaimo) is captured by terrorists, forcing Sisko to give pursuit. Tracking the Maquis freighter, Sisko, Major Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor), and Dr. Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) enters the Badlands, a region of space that would play a crucial role in Voyager 's pilot episode, "Caretaker".

Star Trek: Voyager & DS9 Crossed Over In The Mirror Universe

Briefing Dr. Julian Bashir, Kira reveals that the Badlands is beset by plasma storms, making it an incredibly dangerous region of space. To which Sisko adds that " a few ships have been lost there over the past year or two ", foreshadowing the loss of the USS Voyager a year later. DS9 would also later establish that the Badlands was a key strategic location for the Maquis in their resistance efforts against Cardassian occupation , further setting up the Star Trek: Voyager pilot. Not only was the Badlands a crucial hiding place for the Maquis, the region was also used as a staging ground for larger military operations.

The Badlands were likened to the Bermuda Triangle in an early outline of Star Trek: Voyager dated 17th August 1993.

In DS9 season 3, episode 9, "Defiant", Thomas Riker (Jonathan Frakes) hijacked the USS Defiant and took it into the Badlands to rendezvous with a fleet of Maquis raiders. "Defiant" aired a few months before Star Trek: Voyager 's pilot, in which Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and the crew of the USS Voyager departed from Deep Space Nine to track down a missing Maquis ship in the Badlands . It was a fateful mission that ultimately resulted in the Intrepid-class Voyager being stranded thousands of lightyears from home, another starship " lost over there " in the Badlands.

While devising Star Trek: Voyager in August 1993, Jeri Taylor wrote that the Badlands were " a turbulent area of space where some ships have been lost (some of them might crop up during the series) "

Other Star Trek Starships Lost In The Badlands

"a few ships have been lost over there..." - commander sisko.

The USS Voyager was initially sent to track down the missing Maquis freighter, the Val Jean, aboard which Lt. Tuvok (Tim Russ) was undercover for Starfleet. The Val Jean was lost in the Badlands after being pursued by Gul Evek (Richard Poe), who was overseer of the Demilitarized Zone in place between the Cardassian and Federation territories. However, rather than being destroyed by the plasma storms that plagued the region, the Val Jean was actually captured by the Caretaker's coherent tetryon beam and brought to the Delta Quadrant . The Caretaker had also taken a Cardassian Galor-class warship, and a Cardassian Dreadnought missile.

In the Star Trek: Voyager episode "The Voyager Conspiracy" it is suggested that it was Gul Evek's ship that was captured by the Caretaker, however this is later debunked.

The most notable starship taken by the Caretaker was the USS Equinox, which was encountered by Captain Janeway and the crew in Star Trek: Voyager 's season 5 finale . However, given that the Equinox was stranded in a different region of space, it seems that they weren't lost in the Badlands like Voyager was. The Badlands continued to be a key position during the Dominion War in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , until the Maquis were rooted out by the combined forces of the Cardassians and the Jem'Hadar, a devastating loss for Voyager's Maquis crew members.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, also known as DS9, is the fourth series in the long-running Sci-Fi franchise, Star Trek. DS9 was created by Rick Berman and Michael Piller, and stars Avery Brooks, René Auberjonois, Terry Farrell, and Cirroc Lofton. This particular series follows a group of individuals in a space station near a planet called Bajor.

Star Trek: Voyager

The fifth entry in the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Voyager, is a sci-fi series that sees the crew of the USS Voyager on a long journey back to their home after finding themselves stranded at the far ends of the Milky Way Galaxy. Led by Captain Kathryn Janeway, the series follows the crew as they embark through truly uncharted areas of space, with new species, friends, foes, and mysteries to solve as they wrestle with the politics of a crew in a situation they've never faced before.

Star Trek: Best Book-Only Characters

  • The Star Trek novels introduce unique characters like Akaar and Treir, adding depth to the expansive Starfleet universe.
  • Characters like Nick Keller and Elias Vaughn bring new perspectives to the post- DS9 era, facing challenging galactic events.
  • Mackenzie Calhoun leads the USS Excalibur in a new hero ship series, showcasing tactical genius in the New Frontier books.

Just like the universe itself, the Star Trek franchise is huge and far-reaching, encompassing several television shows, and numerous video games, movies, and books. While many of Star Trek 's most iconic characters appear in various series and films, there are many other great characters who only feature in alternative media sources. For instance, the final frontier has spawned some memorable video game-based characters .

Star Trek: 8 Most Powerful Federation Starships, Ranked

Yet perhaps the richest source of characters is the now questionably canon series of books that take place following The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine . From fresh takes on classic species like the Andorians and Orions, to some of Starfleet's finest officers, the Star Trek novels are a treasure trove of notable figures.

Leonard James Akaar

First appearence: star trek mission gamma book one: twilight.

  • Author: David R. George III
  • Publication Date: September 2002

Leonard James Akaar is unique among novel-only characters in that he does, in fact, make a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance on televised Trek . "Friday's Child," an episode of The Original Series , ends with his birth; however, the Capellan royal would not be seriously fleshed out until 2002's Mission Gamma: Twilight . By the time of the Deep Space 9 novels, Akaar had risen through the ranks of Starfleet to become an influential admiral with the ear of the Federation president.

Akaar's strategic mindset and steely resolve proved essential in preserving the Federation through some of its darkest periods, including the Borg invasion depicted in the Star Trek: Destiny series. The Starfleet legend may have been born in The Original Series , but the Star Trek novels were where he made his name.

First Appearence: Star Trek: Demons of Air and Darkness

  • Author: Keith R. A. DeCandido
  • Publication Date: September 2001

Star Trek features many inspirational female characters, from Kira Nerys to Katherine Janeway. However, few are as resourceful or as motivated as Treir , an Orion Dabo girl who transformed Quark's Bar into a highly successful business during the post- DS9 novels. Following her escape from Orion servitude, Treir earned her place as Quark's right-hand woman by implementing a series of radical reforms, including hiring a Dabo boy to attract more customers.

Star Trek: The Fates Of Every Live-Action TV Show's Main Character

Treir may not play a significant role in the canon-shattering events depicted in the Deep Space 9 novels, but this ruthless businesswoman helped to make Star Trek 's prose universe feel like a living, breathing place. If anyone is capable of giving Quark a run for his latinum, it's her.

Nick Keller

First appearence: star trek new earth: challenger.

  • Author: Diane Carey
  • Publication Date: August 2000

New Earth , a series of six novels that take place between Star Trek: The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan , was intended to act as a backdoor pilot for a new narrative focusing on Commander Nick Keller . In the final novel, Keller takes command of a makeshift starship in order to defend the human colony of Belle Terre from alien attack. Keller was conflicted between overthrowing his inept captain and preserving the lives of his comrades, and it's a great shame that a full series based on the space cowboy's adventures never emerged.

Interestingly, author Diane Carey based Keller's appearance on Scott Bakula, who would go on to play Captain Jonathan Archer in Star Trek: Enterprise . Keller, however, would make only two more appearances in the Star Trek universe, with both being part of the multi-series Gateways crossover event.

Elias Vaughn

First appearence: star trek: avatar (book one).

  • Author: S. D. Perry
  • Publication Date: July 2001

Elias Vaughn was a Starfleet officer and intelligence operative who joined Deep Space 9's command staff following the end of the Dominion War . Despite only holding the rank of commander, Vaughn's expertise proved a boon to the Federation outpost, and he played a role in several key events, including the USS Defiant 's post-war exploration of the Gamma Quadrant (depicted in the Mission Gamma sub-series).

Star Trek: 8 Impressive Things Kirk Did Before Joining The USS Enterprise

Vaughn was haunted by the death of his wife, Ruriko, and his troubled relationship with his estranged daughter, Prynn. This relationship was complicated by the fact that Prynn was also assigned to Deep Space 9. However, father and daughter were eventually able to reconcile–but not without some bumps along the way.

Christine Vale

First appearence: star trek: the belly of the beast.

  • Author: Dean Wesley Smith

While William Riker's USS Titan has made notable appearances in Star Trek: Lower Decks , the starship's adventures were originally chronicled in a series of spin-off novels. These books featured Christine Vale , a former detective turned Starfleet officer, as Riker's second-in-command. Vale was initially unwilling to take the post, as she disliked the idea of Riker working so closely with his wife, Deanna Troi.

Luckily, Vale took the post, which allowed her to act as a counterweight to any of Riker's Troi-related biases. During her time aboard the USS Titan , she helped to explore the Beta Quadrant and fend off a Borg invasion. Indeed, her record was so good that, following Riker's promotion to admiral, she took command of the Luna -class starship.

Thirishar ch'Thane

From their initial appearance in 1967's "Journey to Babel" and 2001's "The Andorian Incident," references to Star Trek 's Andorians were true and far between. One important detail was disclosed in The Next Generation , however: Andorians have four sexes , with all four required for successful reproduction.

The character of Thirishar ch'Thane (or "Shar") was a response to this premise. Shar served as Deep Space Nine's science officer following the end of the Dominion War, but was torn between his commitments to Starfleet and to his mating group, who wished him to return to Andor. This dilemma was further complicated by a dangerous decline in Andorian fertility, which threatened to cause the Andorians' extinction in the long term. Shar was eventually able to use his scientific knowledge to help solve the Andorian fertility crisis.

The Jem'Hadar are one of Star Trek 's most iconic creations , a powerful race of warriors motivated by their addiction to the chemical ketracel-white. During the Dominion War of 2373–2375, the Jem'Hadar were central to the Dominion assaults which nearly overwhelmed the Federation Alliance.

8 Best Starfleet Ships During The Dominion War

After the war's conclusion, Taran'atar , a Jem'Hadar without a ketracel-white dependency, was sent to Deep Space Nine as a cultural observer. Taran'atar's struggle to adjust to the Alpha Quadrant during peacetime makes for fascinating reading, as does seeing the fearsome warrior growing closer to his former enemies. Taran'atar's story takes some strange twists and turns, but he remains a fascinating character.

Mackenzie Calhoun

First appearence: star trek new frontier: house of cards.

  • Author: Peter David
  • Publication Date: July 1997

In 1997, Pocket Books published the first of Peter David's New Frontier books. While these novels included several characters from TV Trek (mostly notably Commander Shelby from "The Best of Both Worlds" ), they focused on a new hero ship, the USS Excalibur , and a new captain: Mackenzie Calhoun . Calhoun, an alien warrior modeled after Mel Gibson, was depicted as a tactical genius capable of beating Starfleet's toughest challenges–including the infamous Kobayashi Maru test.

Calhoun soon became a fan-favorite, with his New Frontier series including over 20 volumes. The Xenanian captain was even popular enough to be made into an action figure, the only example of this honor being bestowed on a character originating from any of Star Trek 's novels.
