Chelsea news: The Blues have named their 29-strong touring party of America for pre-season with some surprise inclusions as transfer hints are dropped

Chelsea have announced their 29-man squad ahead of the pre-season tour of America. The Blues and their head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, depart for the United States ahead of matches against Wrexham, Brighton, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund.

Having sold or released more than ten members of their first-team squad from last season, Chelsea are taking a young group of players with them to America as they prepare for the 2023/24 season under new management. Summer signings Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku have been included in the touring party, as have a host of young stars.

Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Armando Broja and Marcus Bettinelli were all left out with injuries being assessed while recovery is planned. Reece James reported as ill and did not travel out of precaution, the club say.

Chelsea have welcomed back a group of returning loanees ready to prove their worth to Pochettino and the Argentine has granted them a chance to impress. Levi Colwill, Ian Maatsen and Andrey Santos have all been selected for the tour while Callum Hudson-Odoi has been left out.

The winger spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen and failed to make the desired impact. He is now set for a move away from the club with Fulham and Nottingham Forest amongst the interest clubs. Elsewhere, there was no place for Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The trio are all surplus to requirements and had been granted extra time away from Cobham in order to find a move away. Lukaku has been at the centre of the most attention with large wages to shift and a hefty price tag still on his head. The Belgian isn't expected to be part of Pochettino's plans next season but has so far been unable to find a new home.

Inter have now reportedly dropped out of the running for him, leaving Juventus of a move to Saudi Arabia on the cards. Ziyech himself was close to a transfer to the Saudi Pro League before issues in his medical delayed such a deal.

Badiashile misses out with the hamstring injury he picked up towards the end of last season. football.london understands that Badiashile is targeting the star t of the new campaign for when he returns to action as he continues to do gym work behind the scenes at Cobham to ensure just that.

There was no room for fellow Under-21 starlet Omari Hutchinson or Harvey Vale as they miss out on selection with the expectation that both players find a loan to aid their development. Cesare Casadei has been given a chance to show himself to Pochettino in action despite heavy links to Leicester.

Academy duo Bashir Humphreys and Alfie Gilchrist are in the group after training for the past fortnight in Surrey, as Malo Gusto following his own return from loan at Lyon in the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Eddie Beach is included in the squad. football.london understands the Blues have decided to keep the youngster around the first team before assessing his situation in January .

Chelsea has announced that the club will once again go on a summer tour of the United States in 2024.

The Blues did not confirm any venues, opponents or dates for the preseason tour, saying that information would be announced in the coming weeks.

Chelsea played five matches in the U.S. last summer: three against Premier League sides, one against Wrexham and one against Borussia Dortmund. It was the second straight year the Blues had toured the U.S. during their preseason.

Last month, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all confirmed plans to travel to the United States ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Arsenal will play against Manchester United at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on July 27. The Gunners will then face Liverpool at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on July 31.

Manchester United will also take on Liverpool at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina on August 3.

In addition to that heavyweight trio, Aston Villa has announced that it will also return to the USA this summer. The club has confirmed a July 27 friendly against the Columbus Crew, with more matches expected to be announced shortly.

Celtic FC take on Man City and Chelsea in USA summer tour

Celtic FC will take on two Premier League teams and a US team as part of their USA summer tour. The Hoops will play Manchester City, Chelsea, and DC United in a series of friendlies when they head Stateside in July.

The Scottish champions will square off against Pep Guardiola's superstars and Mauricio Pochettino's side, who currently sit third and ninth respectively on the Premier League table, in a blockbuster pre-season trip.

Brendan Rodgers and his squad's clash with City will take place on July 23 at the Kenan Stadium, Chapel Hill. It will be the first meeting of the sides since going head to head in the Champions League back in 2016.

The showdown with Chelsea is four days later on July 27 at the iconic Notre Dame Stadium in the city of South Bend in the farewell match of the US trip .

The opening game of the tour will be against DC United at Audi Field on July 20 in Washington . On facing the MLS side, Captain Callum McGregor said: “We are delighted to be meeting DC United. It'll be a great sporting occasion.

"Celtic has enjoyed a number of great visits to the United States previously to play both European and MLS teams and I am sure this summer we will enjoy another successful visit. We are really grateful to have such a strong fanbase in the States and it is great that these matches will give our fans a chance to see us in action again.”

US international and Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers added: "Everyone at Celtic is really looking forward to our summer visit to the US and of course myself as a US national player, I can't wait.

Presale tickets for the Chelsea vs. Manchester City match went on sale 10 a.m. Tuesday. All tickets will be made available at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Columbus is one o four markets that will host Manchester City games this summer along with Chapel Hill, North Carolina, New York City and Orlando, Florida.

The Crew played their first home game at Ohio Stadium in April 1996 and used the facility as its home stadium from 1996-98. The Horseshoe also hosted an International Champions Cup game between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid in front of more than 86,000 people in 2016.
