How to get to Chonburi

The country’s main international airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), is around two hours’ drive from Chonburi. Chonburi is also served by regular flights via U-Tapao International Airport (UTP), which is located about 45 minutes south of Pattaya.

The State Railway of Thailand, Thailand’s national passenger rail system, operates in the province, with Chon Buri Railway Station serving as the main station. The train ride from Bangkok to Chon Buri takes around 3 hours. The Bangkok to Chon Buri train service, operated by the State Railway of Thailand, departs from Hua Lamphong and arrives in Chonburi. Typically, seven trains operate weekly, but weekend and holiday timetables may vary. At the 12Go platform , visitors may easily buy local rail tickets.

The Eastern Bus Terminal, located near to the Ekkamai BTS station has the most frequent departures. It is also feasible to take a bus from Northern Bus Terminal or Southern Bus Terminal for a comparable fare. Chonburi Bus Terminal is located at Viboon Thammarak Road. Trips to Pattaya take roughly 2 hours on average, however timeframes vary greatly depending on traffic.

In Pattaya, there are two bus terminals. The major Pattaya bus terminal is located on North Road (Pattaya Nua), near the intersection with Sukhumvit Road, and is operated by Roong Ruang Coach Company. The provincial station, located on Sukhumvit Road adjacent to the entrance to Soi 59, is another bus terminal. It is mostly operated by Nakhonchai Air, which operates long-distance bus services throughout the country. 12Go is a website that allows you to easily purchase bus tickets online.

There are two ways to go to Chonburi from Bangkok. The first route is to use the Bangkok-Chonburi-Pattaya Motorway (Highway 7) which connects to Bangkok’s Outer Ring Road (Highway 9). The second option is to take the Bang Na-Trat Highway (Highway 34) from Bang Na via Bang Phli and across the Bang Pakong River into Chonburi.

How to get around Chonburi

Metered taxis are available in Chonburi. Taxis with meters may frequently be available outside of most retail malls and other strategic sites. Some metered taxis refuse to operate the meter. To prevent such complications, it is advised to utilize ride-hailing applications such as Grab.

The Baht Bus (also known as Songthaew and so named because it used to cost a baht) is a pickup truck with a canopy roof and two bench seats in the back for passengers. They’re color-coded, with each color having its own operational area. The dark-blue Baht Bus is the popular and convenient method of transportation in downtown Pattaya, as well as between Jomtien and Naklua. Another popular Baht Bus is the white Baht Bus. They go as far south as Sattahip and as far north as Naklua or beyond. Because it is unmetered, it is best to agree on a fee with the driver at the start.

Motorcycle taxis are a fast and convenient way of getting around Pattaya. They are more expensive than a baht bus, but they are able to weave through slow moving traffic of downtown Pattaya much quicker than any other form of transport. Similar to Bangkok, they usually remain at their regular stations rather than cruising about searching for passengers. Since it is unmetered, it is recommended to agree on the pricing first.

Motorcycles are commonly used to navigate around Chonburi, especially if visitors want to travel within the Pattaya area. Renters are required to have a valid driver’s license, which can be either Thai or international. The rental company will not ask for a driver’s license, but the police may. Helmets are mandatory, and riders who do not wear them may be stopped by police.

Renting a car is a great way to get around Chonburi. Despite the fact that Chonburi roads are in great condition, driving in the city may be a misery owing to massive traffic jams in some areas. Applications such as Google Maps may help drivers navigate the city from one spot to another.
