Compass Royston Travel Limited is a coach hire company which was established in 1972. We are one of the leading coach operators in the North East of England and are the largest coach operator in the Teesside area.

Our office and depot are located in Stockton on Tees. We employ up to 65 staff and have a large fleet of over 50 vehicles, so we can always  ensure you get to your destination in comfort and on time.

Compass Royston also provide the team coach for Hartlepool Football Club and various local football and rugby teams. Transporting the teams and their fans across the country for their away games.

A Little History

We carry out tours for many very well-known and respected tour operators. Destinations cover most of Europe which include France, Holland, Germany and Italy. We are also one of the chosen partners to work with Coach2, Megabus, First Rail, National Express and National Holidays.

Transporting school children constitutes a large proportion of Compass Royston’s business, whether on their journeys to and from school, on school trips or on extended national and international tours. Our 70 seat standard specialist coaches are used on various home to school contracts.

One of a pair of Volvo B10M-61 Duple 340s supplied new to Compass Royston in 1988, both of which remained on fleet until 1999. E274 NVN, now NIW 7125, passes through Dover Docks on 23rd August, 1997.

Compass Royston, Stockton VDL SB200 / Wright Pulsar PBZ 8343 is seen here in Middlesbrough on 05/03/20 (passing the Bus Station and turning off Newport Road) operating service TR1. This was new to Claribel (Birmingham) registered YJ57 BOH.

Not quite the average Stagecoach Merc! E91LBV was a 709D model fitted with Alexander B25F bodywork and new as Burnley & Pendle 91 in February 1988. It was acquired with the business and transferred to Scotland in 1998, before sale to Compass Royston.

It was loading at Irvine Cross on it's way to Kilwinning.

There was a good selection of visiting coaches on 26th February 2023, when Wembley Stadium hosted its first showpiece final of the season, with Manchester United meeting Newcastle United in the EFL Cup (Carabao Cup). One such vehicle pictured transporting Newcastle United fans to the game was KP20 COM, a Yutong T122HDH GT12 C53Ft coach new to Compass Royston, Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland in March 2020.

N590GBW was a Dennis Javelin 12SDA / Caetano Algarve C51Ft purchased new by Horsham Buses in April 1996. It joined Dodd's of Troon in June 1997. It would later work for Compass Royston, Shuttle Buses and Bain's of Oldmeldrum.

New to Arriva, Gomersal (dealer) in May 2016. Saw service with Garelochhead Coaches, Garelochhead. Aspect, Newmains, Albatross, Sunderland and Sharpes, Nottingham prior to joining the fleet of its current operator.

Volvo B10M-62 Plaxton Premiere 350s have featured in the Procters and Compass Royston fleet for over twenty years although the final ones have, I believe, been sold over the last few months. HDZ 2615 was one of eight coming across the Irish Sea from Bus Eireann where it operated as VP49 (97D-23189) and was seen at the Stockton base on 24th April, 2009. This coach was converted to a seventy seater at some point after this photo and until a couple of days ago operated for South Staffs as N555 KLB. It has today moved to an operator further south.

One of the oldest coaches in the Compass Royston fleet at the time of my visit on 24th April, 2009, this Volvo B10M-61 Plaxton Paramount 3500 had been new to Wallace Arnold as FUA 382Y. It would be sold to a County Durham operator in the Summer although I am not sure whether it was used by them.

Compass Royston - Optare Solo - T14 CRT is seen here at Middlesbrough, Cannon Park Way operating the Teesside University Free Park & Ride service PR1 on November 25th 2015.

New as Y256KNB to Wilson of Rhu.

PAG514W was a Bristol VRT/SL3 / ECW H43/31F new as East Yorkshire number 514 in July 1980, seen in Scarborough. On disposal it passed to Compass Royston.

Seen in Middlesbrough 11/10/22 was Compass Royston Optare Solo PBZ 8343

Compass Royston's Mercedes YSU870 is pictured outside Middlesbrough Railway Station, operating a rail replacement service, on September 4th 2021. It was previously registered BF61HCJ whilst YSU870 is a much used registration.

Seen in the coach park on Michael Browning Way, Exeter is MJ61AVX. A Neoplan Starliner 2 N5218SHDL from the Stockton-on-Tees based fleet of Compass Royston.

The vehicle started life with Ellisons, St. Helens as MJ61AVX in December 2011. During its time with Ellisons the vehicle also carried the registrations of WSM3 and OJB53.

Here, Compass Royston of Stockton-On-Tees Volvo B10M-60 / Plaxton Paramount 3500 III LIL9816 is seen at the Claycart Coach Park in July 2006. The coach was new to Wallace Arnold as G523LWU.

Along with many operators across the country, Compass Royston, Stockton-on-Tees, has added a number of PSVAR compliant former National Express Caetano Levante bodied coaches to its fleet.

Volvo B9R FJ11 MLU, seen on a baths contract in Church Road, Stockton last Thursday, 05/03/20, was new to de Courcey, Coventry in June 2011 as fleet number MD10.
