Tire Meets Road

Did The Grand Tour really buy a house in Detroit for $2,200?

In Season 3, Episode 1 (Motown Funk), Clarkson, Hammond, and May buy a house for two grand instead of staying at a local hotel. But, did they really buy a house?

Just now catching up with The Grand Tour episodes and on Season 3, Episode 1 titled Motown Funk our triumvirate (mostly Hammond) claims instead of spending Bezos bucks on a weekend stay at the Hilton, they bought a whole house for $2,200.

Here are screenshots from the episode of the house in question.

the grand tour detroit house

While I’ve contacted a TGT rep, as of this blog post, they’ve yet to give me a response.

Regardless, around 2018 (when that episode was filmed) and somewhat true today, houses in Detroit, MI could be bought for $2,200, and in several cases, even cheaper!

Not quite 2018 but in 2009 this Buzzfeed reporter bought a house in Motown at live county auction for just $500.

And in 2019, /u/SoyBeanCola1933 asked the /r/RealEstate subreddit why there are so many $1,000 houses in Detroit still for sale and, most importantly, what’s the catch?

The Detroit real estate market has been full of cheap property for a long time.

It’s very well possible and is likely the case that The Grand Tour management actually bought a house for that little just for a day or two of shooting.

Why exactly are Detroit houses so cheap?

To put it in layman’s terms, there’s a large supply of dilapidated and unmaintained houses and very little demand to live in Detroit.

Detroit in the ’20s was once the richest cities…in the world.

But, with a city once so reliant on its auto industry and with the inevitable decline and collapse of the Big 3, there was little reason to move to or live there.

Detroit now is a shadow of its former self.

Put two and two together and you have real estate agents and counties practically giving houses away.

What’s the catch?

Yes, you can buy a house for between $500-$1,000 and even cheaper but the catch is, as of 2018, you have to bring the property up to code within 6 months.

Even prior to 2018, if you want to have a livable home, your cheap house will need thousands in renovations.

Most of these cheap houses have been sitting for years exposed to the elements, structurally deficient from the basement up and, thanks to thieves, most likely have all the electrical wiring and plumbing stripped.

If we’re talking about code and bringing that cheap Detroit house up to the bare minimum that means possible foundation work, electrical work, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and repairs to windows and doors.

Conservative estimates three years ago was you’d need between $60,000-$100,000 to bring everything in a dilapidated house up to code.

With prices of materials and labor significantly more today, you can double that.

So yeah, The Grand Tour probably did buy a house for that cheap.

I honestly don’t think they lived and slept in it because it looks like they had no running water or electricity.

I think they only bought it to film a bit and eventually went to a hotel.

But, if they actually wanted to own and live in it, they’d need to bring everything up to code, an investment The Grand Tour didn’t plan on doing.

The Grand Tour, Season 3, Kicks Off in Detroit

First episode of the new Grand Tour series features a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, a Hennessey Chevy Camaro ZL1, and a Ford Mustang RTR. Check out the trailer here.

The Grand Tour, Season Three

Three British TV stars responsible for making automotive enthusiasm wildly popular among mainstream viewers worldwide are returning to the small screen this week. Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond are back to their regularly scheduled shenanigans on Amazon's The Grand Tour, with the show's third season set to debut in just a few days. Fans have waited nearly a year for its return since last season's finale in mid-February 2018. Even if you consider the occasionally obnoxious hosts an acquired taste, this series is worth looking at for the high production values, the gorgeous scenery, and the always fascinating variety of sheetmetal to see in action.

The trailer for season three reveals more of the kinds of capers that are expected from everyone's favorite WASPy aging car critics. We spied everything from Hammond stranded on a log bridge in a '90s GM brodozer to Lamborghini Urus vs. Porsche 911 racing around an emphatically phallic ice track atop a frozen lake. Other highlights include May inducing serious oversteer in a Pininfarina-designed Lancia Gamma, Clarkson's high-speed track test in the outrageous McLaren Senna, and a pickup comparison featuring the forbidden fruit that is the Mercedes-Benz X-class .

Two changes for the third season include the deletion of the forgettable Celebrity Face-Off segment and the incorporation of The Grand Tour Game , an episodic console racer that will release new content weekly featuring the cars and locations from that week's episode. As we've previously said, the game should be a hoot to play , but dropping the celebrity interview bit could slay one of the show's greatest demons. Less of the stilted dialogue with regional B-list celebrities and more of the expertly written, beautifully produced driving segments will surely improve the show's pacing and international appeal.

Shocked to learn that Detroit, the birthplace of petrolheads has been renovated to producing Organic Kale and Allotment sheds, rather than Power Hungry V8s, the trio head over to bring life back into Motor City. To assist them they each bring an Iconic Tuned American Muscle Car for there Pulsating Petrolhead Playground.

Hammond brings the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon , an 840bhp upgrade on the Hellcat ( used in Opera, Arts and Donuts ), despite having the same brakes and suspension. May uses the Hennessey Exorcist , a 1000bhp Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, but with Standard Brakes and Suspension. Clarkson drives the 720bhp Ford Mustang RTR Spec 3 , which does have upgraded brakes and suspension. While enjoying their drive, Clarkson and May reveal their true love for Muscle Cars, only claiming they were stupid to annoy Hammond.

For the first test, Clarkson and May state that the team should do a drag race to see which of their muscle cars is the fastest. Hammond is initially skeptical and reveals that Dodge have stated not to use the Demon for street which his presenters assume is due to his Rimac Crash. Clarkson and May therefore continue without Hammond and have their street Drag Race which they continue for several runs to annoy the latter. Despite May having a bad start on one run, the Exorcist continually thrashes the Mustang, despite Clarkson using launch control on one of the many runs, due to it's 280bhp advantage. Clarkson eventually gives in and the trio look into the Exorcist's engine, but Hammond claims that it would be no faster than the Demon to which May disagrees, due to the Exorcist being built to vanquish the Demon. Clarkson states that to solve this they would find a runaway and stage a drag race between the Exorcist and the Demon, in a battle of "Good vs. Evil".

For the second test, the trio agree to do a noise test in an abandoned theatre, which used to belong to Henry Ford, and after a look into it's history they begin their noise test using a decibel-o-meter. Clarkson goes first, with Hammond and May wearing helmets, to protect them from fragments of the roof, and masks, to prevent them inhaling dust. After doing several doughnuts, the Mustang peaks at 125.2 decibels. During Hammond's run, he initially forgets his key, and his presenters mock him once again, stating that he'll likely have another accident. Despite it having more power the Mustang, the Demon only peaks at 118.8 decibels. As May heads off for his run, his co-presenters mock him for his lack of doughnut experience, which shows as he stalls several times. He eventually over comes and the Exorcist wins overall with a peak time of 128 decibels. After May does his victory dance, Clarkson attempts to claim victory for the Mustang due to it being 50 grand cheaper than the Exorcist.

The trio then head out to search for lunch but after failing to find a restaurant or a hotel, they agree to buy a house, which Hammond gives a tour of and reveals that they only paid $2200. Clarkson however is disgusted by May growing vegetables as Detroit was meant to be petrolhead heaven rather than an Eco-Allotment shed. Clarkson therefore heads out to purchase some burgers and in the process runs over May's vegetables plot.

The next morning the trio compare their fuel economies, the Demon averages 8mpg, the Exorcist averages 3.9mpg and the Mustang averages 13mpg with Hammond joking that it was a Hybrid. Their plan was to turn Detroit's City Centre into a RaceTrack, but were unable to due to the large populous of the city and Clarkson's disgust towards the city becoming a "wholefood market" which annoys his colleagues particularly May.

The trio therefore head for Cadillac's old Conner Avenue Factory, and after a look into its history, Hammond agrees to set up their racetrack with portraits of singers representing different corners. Once completed, they send May in the God-Fearing Exorcist to christen the track. After his run, May criticises Hammond for poorly setting up the track, but never the less, the presenters begin their practice timed laps. The Demon and the Exorcist are relatively close but the Mustang proves to be significantly faster, thanks to its superior suspension and brakes. The practice times shown are:

The trio then begin their official timed laps with the Exorcist going first and despite May frightening himself he beats his own record. The Demon goes next but proves to be more a handful for Hammond and his colleagues commentate his lap, stating that he'll likely have an accident. Despite his efforts and beating his own record, Hammond's time proves to be slower than May's. As Clarkson sets off for his lap in the Mustang, May sabotages the lap by pouring Organic palm oil at the final corner. Despite being faster initially, the Mustang slips on the oil and finishes stone dead last. The times shown are:

Finally the trio arrive at an Airfield where May and Hammond line up the Exorcist and Demon the drag race of "Good vs. Evil" with Clarkson being the starter. However Hammond halts the drag race, which annoys his colleagues to make modifications to the Demon, so as to make it a proper Drag Racing Car, including changing the tyres, fitting a new ECU, a new air filter, performance fuel and a new dashboard. Eventually the Demon was complete and both Hammond and May warmed they're tyres, burnout style. However once the burnout session ended, Hammond revealed he had to set the Demon up as a Race car, which proves too much for Clarkson who abandons his colleagues. The traffic lights are therefor brought in to start the race. Due to it's rebuild the Demon sets off quicker than the wayward Exorcist and wins overall, resulting in a victory for Evil.

Back in the Tent, May attempts to claim victory due to the fuel used in the Demon but Hammond reveals that the Exorcist used the same fuel, all of the time. Clarkson then claims overall victory for the Mustang due to it being the most sensible choice, which despite May disagreeing with, Hammond reveals that the Mustang would be his choice as the "resident muscle car enthusiast".

Track Test [ ]

Clarkson tests out McLaren's all new, super hardcore, super light, super fast, super expensive P1 replacement, honourably named the Senna, after Ayrton Senna. Due to it's sheer speed, He tests it at Thruxton Circuit as opposed to the Eboladrome. He is blown away by the Senna's speed, lack of weight, aerodynamics, braking, steering and especially the handling stating that it's way more delicate than even the best Ferrari's. He concludes by stating that the Senna re-wrote the Supercar rule book. Abbie Eaton returns to drive the Senna round the Eboladrome and sets a new Lap Record of 1:12.9, nearly 3 seconds faster than the non road legal Aston Martin Vulcan.

Conversation Street [ ]

Sting: The trio shake hands, with May revealing an elongated right arm.

The trio talk about the economic collapse of the city. Hammond points out that American carmakers contributed to the demise of Detroit by being too cheap on their prices.

Jeremy Clarkson Was Held at Gunpoint While Filming Top Gear in Detroit

Clarkson decided to use an abandoned train station as a film set and accidentally wandered into a gang’s hideout.

Current host of Amazon's The Grand Tour Jeremy Clarkson recently recalled an encounter that threatened his life while filming an episode of BBC's Top Gear in Detroit, Michigan.

The popular trio and the show's film crew were visiting the Motor City in 1997 when they sought to use an abandoned train station as a film set, even though they had been warned by local police of gang activity inside the building. Undeterred, Jeremy and the film crew entered the premises and found the building was exactly as promised.

"Jeremy was filming in a ruined railway station but was warned by cops not to go inside as there were warring gang factions operating," an unidentified member of the film crew told The Mirror . "But he ignored the advice and was surrounded by gangs."

"Somebody held a gun against my head in Detroit," Clarkson admitted of the event. "It's a long, complicated story but we were trying to do some filming and some people thought we were trespassing on their turf. It was pretty nasty. And this time, 100 yards from where that happened, I was having dumplings in a goose broth."

"I'm sure if you actually lived there you wouldn't call it interesting, you'd call it dangerous," Clarkson continued. "But the chrome shoots of rejuvenation are growing again so you can actually eat quite well there, you can stay in a nice hotel, you can go short distances from A to B without being shot."

Clarkson has since returned to Detroit on multiple occasions to film without any apparent further incident. In the first episode of the upcoming third season of Amazon's The Grand Tour , Clarkson and company revisit the city in a trio of modified American muscle and pony cars, specifically a Ford Mustang RTR Stage 3 , a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon , and a Chevrolet Camaro "Exorcist" by Hennessey Performance.

In the new Detroit episode, the three will turn an abandoned car factory into a race track, making peace with the city that once threatened one of the presenters' lives.

The Grand Tour Season 3 – Motown Funk – Episode Guide, Recap, Fun Facts

The first episode of The Grand Tour Season 3, aptly named Motown Funk, starts off with the same theme song as the Second Season. The opening graphics are also very similar, but this time showing off what’s to come later this season. We can see muscle cars, camper-vans, and off-roaders pushing their way through muddy terrain. Want to discuss it with fans? Check out our new forum !

Introduction

the grand tour detroit house

The episode starts the same way as all the others. Clarkson , Hammond and May emerge at the side of the tent to the crowd screaming and clapping. “We’re back!” Jeremy screams before they sit at the table in front of the landscape of Great Tew.

A montage plays of what is to be expected over the next thirteen weeks: Classic F1 cars, high powered supercars, epic journeys across desserts, the snow, and jungle. And of course, plenty of explosions.

Saving Detroit

the grand tour detroit house

The trio have decided that Detroit isn’t what it used to be. The Motor City is now too interested in kale than V8s, so Clarkson, Hammond and May set out to change this.

Clarkson tears through a vegetable patch with a Ford Mustang RTR Spec 3, kicking off this segment. Hammond and May join him in the Dodge Challenger Demon and the Hennessey Exorcist Camaro respectively.

The Drag Race

the grand tour detroit house

After they talk about their cars while driving (and drifting) around the streets of Detroit, they pull over to decide which of their muscle cars is the fastest. They decide the only way to find this out is with a street drag race. Hammond however, has been told by Dodge that he’s not allowed to race it on the street (maybe they’ve heard of Rimac?) so Clarkson pushes him off the road and ready a race with James.

They decide to not use launch control because it’s very complicated in the Hennessey and James can’t remember how to use it. Using a barber’s door as the finishing line, they set off. James wins by about a car-length, but Clarkson knew he wouldn’t win because James has plenty more power. The ape simply wanted to annoy Hammond.

However, Clarkson wants a redo, and because of James’ lack of grip, Clarkson takes the win. A third race is certainly needed to settle the score. But after 17 races, they decide the Hennessey is definitely the faster car. Hammond wants to prove himself though, so goes about finding a race track to prove the Demon’s worth.

The Noise Test

Before this though, they choose an old theatre, built on the site of Henry Ford’s first ever workshop, to perform a noise test. It was eventually turned into a multi-storey carpark after it was a rock venue hosting the likes of T-Rex, ZZTop and David Bowie.

Clarkson goes first and makes a lot of noise with a lot of wheel-spin. They record 125.2dB. Hammond is up next with the Demon (forgets his key initially), but only gets 118.8dB from the car. James takes his place, but can’t seem to do it without stalling the car. Finally, after getting the hang of it, he gets 128dB, winning the challenge.

The House Purchase…

Because they can’t seem to find a restaurant or a hotel, they buy a house… for $2,200. James May has already started gardening in a vegetable plot. Clarkson, on his way to buy burgers, drives through it.

Conversation Street

Yes, this segment returns! They start by discussing Detroit and how it was the richest city in America, but quickly became the poorest. Hammond blames it on how cheap American cars are compared to their Italian counterparts.

Clarkson Reviews The McLaren Senna

the grand tour detroit house

Clarkson takes the McLaren Senna to the fastest racetrack in the South of England (not Europe), Thruxton Circuit.

After explaining the reasoning behind the car, he performs a brake test alongside a Jaguar F-type, just to prove how good its stopping power is. After a good test on the track, Clarkson loves it. In fact, he says he loves it so much, “it’s rewriting the supercar rulebook” in his mind.

Senna VS Eboladrome

It finishes the lap under the racing driver, Abbie Eaton with a time of 1:12.9, beating everything on the lap board. Good news for Clarkson, as if it hadn’t beaten the Huracam Performante, Hammond and May were going to blow up his house.

Back to Detroit

They head to the city centre to find their own racetrack. They discuss their (low) mpgs and how Detroit has become ‘hipster’ with dogs and bicycles. They establish the centre of Detroit isn’t the best place for a racetrack, so instead look to Cadillac’s old factory.

They name all the corners and straights of their make-shift track by using names of musicians who were from Detroit, which includes Madonna (who knew)!

May goes first, only to find that the track is narrow, slippery, and full of asbestos.

May tips palm oil over the track on Clarkson’s lap, ruining what would have been the fastest lap.

The Demon VS The Exorcist – Good VS Evil

the grand tour detroit house

The audience votes on either the drag race segment or the celebrity segment, and obviously choose the drag race. “Does that mean they’re not coming on then?” asks James. Hilarious.

Before the race, Hammond says he has a few things to do before they start. He fits the Demon Crate contents to the car which includes thin front wheels, a new ECU, new fuel and a… new interior? After a burnout, Hammond declares he now has to set the car up for the race. Clarkson bows out while this happens.

The Demon wins. Although they think the Ford is the best of the bunch.

The presenters go “Grand Touring” in Italy with May in the Rolls-Royce Dawn, Clarkson in the Aston Martin DB11 and Hammond in the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Clarkson and May’s tour starts at the Palio di Siena horse race, before viewing The Birth of Venus painting at Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Clarkson and Hammond race each other the Mugello Circuit.

In the tent the presenters discuss Whitby jet.

Returning to Italy, Hammond visits the Lamborghini Museum whilst Clarkson and May watch Carmen staged at the Verona Arena, in the Piazza Bra. The tour continues via the Piazza dei Signori, Vicenza and ends up in the Venetian Lagoon.

Fulfilling their bet from episode one, Hammond and May destroy Clarkson’s house at Diddly Squat Farm in Chadlington, Oxfordshire.

0:02:25 – Jeremy’s family proudly comes from Tickhill near Doncaster.

0:03:06 – Yorkshire did have one car maker of note. They were called Jowett, they were based in Bradford and they went out of business in 1954.

0:03:06 – The BBC sit-com Last Of The Summer Wine ran from 1973 until 2010, although it felt like a lot longer.

0:03:51 – Magaluf is a resort on the Spanish island of Majorca. It is where a lot of young British people go to compare notes on interests such as drinking, dancing and casual sex.

0:04:40 – The Palio di Siena is a bareback horse race around the Piazza del Campo held twice a year to honour the Virgin mary. Palio is also the name of a Fiat.

0:05:09 – The Rolls-Royce Dawn has a 6.6-litre twin turbo V12 engine with 563bhp, 0-62 in 4.9 seconds, and a top speed of 155mph (limited).

0:05:17 – The Aston Martin DB11 has a 5.2-litre twin turbo V12 engine with 600bhp, 0-62 in 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 200mph.

0:05:36 – The official name of this colour is actually Cinnabar Orange. Other colours available on the DB11 include Silver Fox, Yellow Tang, Silver Blonde and Hardly Green. We’re not making this up.

0:06:38 – The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine with 707bhp, 0-62 in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 199mph.

0:08:18 – As on all modern Rolls-Royces, the Dawn’s Spirit of Ecstasy’s radiator mascot electrically retracts. This stops people stealing it when you’re parked and means if you run over someone, it won’t stab them in the kidney.

0:10:46 – The very British Rolls-Royce Motor Car company was bought by the very German BMW in 1998.

0:15:00 – The painting Jeremy and James are looking at is The Birth Of Venus by Sandro Botticelli. Or, as Hammond would call it, That Nudey Lady Standing In A Shell.

0:17:39 – Jeremy is talking about the classic, metal-toothed Bond baddie Jaws played by Richard Kiel. He appeared in The Spy Who Loved Me, where he pulled the roof off a van, and Moonraker, where he smashed through a building in a cable car and then disappeared off into space with a lady.

0:21:47 – Sometimes on The Grand Tour the director eventually has to tell the presenters that play time is over, otherwise they’d be out there all day.

0:24:59 – Richard Hammond went to art college. Not that you’d know.

0:28:53 – A Kilkenny cat is an Irish expression used to describe something that fights with pluck and tenacity. No one knows where it comes from. Well, it comes from Kilkenny in Ireland, but it’s not entirely clear why.

0:30:33 – Oxford is British university city. It’s near where Jeremy lives, which is why he knows an abnormal amount about its ring road.

0:35:02 – Rolls-Royce claims the Dawn is ‘the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built’. Mmm.

0:37:21 – The 6.2-litre, V8-powered, 707 horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat has an eco mode.

0:38:25 – The Hellcat engine is so powerful that during its development Dodge had to upgrade their engine test rigs or they would have been torn to pieces.

0:40:40 – Carman turns out to be an opera written by Georges Bizet and first performed in 1875. Despite the title, it contains almost no mention of crankshafts, bore spacing or double wishbone suspension systems.

0:41:23 – The DB11 is the first Aston Martin with a quiet start system. Press the starter button to fire the engine into full theatrical mode. Press and hold the starter button if it’s 7am and you  don’t want your neighbours to hate you.

0:44:54 – How many people in this crowd? We don’t know but Jeremy estimated it at ’47 billion’.

0:48:35 – Hammond’s very subtle speedboat is an 800 horsepower C237 SUNUS racing boat. It can do 115mph. Or just zoom around in circles with an idiot in it.

0:49:09 – Jeremy claims he nearly drowned in Venice.

0:54:37 – “It’ll go t’ foot of our stairs” – An old Yorkshire expression of surprise and amazement based around taking a trip to the base of a staircase.

0:56:52 – Bats are highly protected in the UK. Unlike rats.

0:57:25 – James May really is very unkeen on heights. Other things James doesn’t like; formal clothes, the Nurburgring, people who say ‘myself’ when they mean ‘me’.

I… didn’t like it. I agree with post above, everything felt too forced. It’s more like watching people pretend to be trio and overdone it. Journey itself was kinda cut, in previous trips finale of it felt like the end, here I was all wut.

' src=

I feel like the show, in comparison to Top Gear, is too “americanised”. Everything about it feels a little bit forced and too over the top, even conversations between the three beloved presenters seem to lack a little bit of authenticity of their usual banter. The jokes are getting repetitive. Although The Grand Tour is shot beautifully, and the huge budget is clearly visible, it just isn’t as laid back as Top Gear was, which is a real shame. Episode three was so far the best one though, hopefully they will pursue this direction. Also, is it just me, or James barely even speaks during the studio (tent) bits, like Conversation Street? GIMMIE MORE MAY.

The studio segments of this episode felt a lot more relaxed than the previous 2. Perhaps it is that they are on ‘home’ turf, but I think we can see them getting more relaxed with the format, and that was good as the jokes were a little more natural and the mood light.

The big film was a lot of fun. Yes, they were playing cliches but this was slightly different. Each of them was driving a car that was a cliche representative of them. Jeremy was the ‘Aston’ (who had a personality/colour conflict), James was the Rolls with the top down who loves art and quiet, and Richard, was the wanna-be-american boy who loved burning tires off in an american car. This will be a great film to re-watch as I’m sure little details will pop out about the cars=presenters.

Overall, this was as good as anything the last series of the show of which we do not speak. (It was on the BBC2, Sunday evening, filmed somewhere in Britain).

'Rehab Addict' fans flock to see restored Detroit house

Thousands of fans of HGTV's "Rehab Addict" lined up for hours Sunday on Detroit's east side to see the completely restored three-story English Tudor that star Nicole Curtis, a Lake Orion native, and her team redid room-by-room for the hit show's latest season.

The line stretched down East Grand Boulevard just north of East Vernor to Charlevoix, snaked west, and then down a nearby side street. Young families with kids, older couples, and teens waited in line for hours, many clutching umbrellas, to tour the house, which was built in 1914.

"You guys must really want to see this house if you're willing to wait in this line," joked Curtis as she chatted with fans while holding her dog, Lucy.

Heidi Cook of Farmington and Eileen Hugelier of Farmington Hills were the first two people in line, arriving at 10 a.m. Their favorite parts of the completely restored house — which Curtis bought for $60,000 from the Detroit Land Bank Authority — were the third floor master suite and the basement lounge, both of which didn't exist before Curtis bought the house.

"It's amazing," says Cook, who also toured the house Curtis renovated on Detroit's west side in 2013. "That was very cool."

Sunday's open house is part of a tradition for Curtis, a vocal advocate of renovating and restoring old houses. Before each renovation job and after, she opens up each of her projects for a brief open house for fans. Each visitor was required to give a $5 donation, which will go to a local family in need, said Curtis.

The house features leaded glass windows, several fireplaces with original tile, a completely restored solarium, and a vintage chandelier in the master bedroom suite. An art deco bar in the basement lounge, bought on Craigslist, stretched across one wall. Throughout the house Curtis used furniture from Art Van Furniture to stage each room. Framed photos of Curtis's family added a personal touch.

Kathy Berger of Brighton came to the open house with her daughter, Emily, who lives in Seattle, before her nursing shift at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

"We love 'Rehab Addict' and we just had had to see it in person," said Berger. "It's even more fabulous in person."

Curtis posed for photos with fans and chatted as they waited in line. She joked that she arrived late because her dog escaped Sunday morning and had to be found.

"Blame Lucy," she said.

Curtis is currently renovating her grandparents' house in Metro Detroit, which she's filming for a new season.
