This is a great campervan rental company for anyone looking for a practical yet comfortable, ad-free campervan.

Vehicles on offer:

Lost Campers has 6 different sized vans in their fleet, from a 2-berth basic van to a 5-berth van large enough for the whole family.

Some of the vans like the Wanderer are more minimal, and perfect for travelers who enjoy camping, but would like to sleep inside a van.

Other vehicles in their fleet like the Sierra Class are a little more all-inclusive with electric coolers and a dual battery system so that you can power your electronics even while the van is off.

2. Outdoorsy - Largest RV rental marketplace in Los Angeles

  • Pick up/drop off location/s - Anywhere!
  • Price range - $-$$$
  • Best suited for - Anyone!

cruise america rv los angeles

Outdoorsy is different from every other RV rental in LA listed here. The reason why?

Rather than a rental firm, Outdoorsy is a trusted campervan and RV rental marketplace .

Outdoorsy is a platform where people can list their RVs and campervans on the market for people to rent! It’s a little like Airbnb for campervans!

You can book any type of campervan or RV through outdoorsy, and their in-platform delivery service means if you want a specific vehicle in a specific location, you can make it happen.

Outdoorsy only works with experienced, trustworthy van owners, and their million-dollar insurance policy protects not only the owners, but also the renters.

The opportunities with Outdoorsy are limitless.

For more information about this platform, check out our in-depth Outdoorsy review !

Outdoorsy has an extremely wide variety of vehicles available for rent on their platform.

It varies from year to year, but they currently have tons of awesome fully converted campervans and comfortable RV rentals.

For campervan rentals in LA, they currently have glamping, fully converted Sprinter Vans, 40-foot RVs, and more.

One of the best parts is that every van and campervan is unique in its own way, which will make your trip feel that much more personal in an Outdoorsy rental.

3. Travellers Autobarn - The best campervan rental in Los Angeles for fully converted campervans

  • Best suited for - Families and groups

Travellers Autobarn is a campervan rental company located in the western US that specializes in fully converted campervan rentals.

They also welcome younger clients with a minimum age requirement of 21, rather than 25 or 26 like many other companies.

Travellers Autobarn Campervan Rental Unit Los Angeles

Travellers Autobarn has three types of vehicles in their fleet : a minimal minivan, and two fully converted campervans, the Hitop and the Kuga.

The minivan is ideal for anyone who wants a car rental to take on their road trip with plenty of storage, and who has their own camping equipment.

For an additional fee, the minivan rental can come with camping equipment, as well as an air mattress to sleep on in the van.

While the minivan is a great budget option, the real prizes in this fleet are the two fully converted campers.

Each campervan has headroom, a convertible bed/table seating area, microwave, fridge, and auxiliary battery to have power off-grid!

The key difference between the two campervans is that the Kuga has a more recent interior build, as well as solar panels.

Meanwhile, the Hitop is about 5 years older, and the auxiliary battery can only be charged while driving or plugged into shore power.

This is a great option for anyone specifically looking for a fully converted campervan rental.

Los Angeles Campervan / RV rental FAQ

How much does it cost to rent a campervan or rv in los angeles.

You can expect to pay anywhere from $75-$300 a night renting a campervan or RV in Los Angeles.

I know that’s a huge price range, but it covers everything from a minivan with a bed and camping kitchen, to a luxury RV rental.

California is a very expensive state to travel in, and the thing to keep in mind when considering pricing is that a campervan/RV rental combines your transportation and accommodation costs into one!

So while these prices may sound expensive, it’s actually one of the most affordable ways to travel in California. You can choose to hire a car, as there are plenty of rentals in LA and other cities, but you'll then need to pay extra for accommodation.

How old do you need to rent a campervan or RV in Los Angeles?

For most campervan rental companies in LA, you need to be at least 25. However, there are  many rental firms on this list that will rent vehicles to drivers aged 21 and up.

Where can I park my campervan/RV rental?

You can park your campervan/RV rental in any campsites that allow parking, as well as RV parks.

California also has a ton of wilderness camping on BLM land that is free, but you will potentially need 4WD to get to some of the areas.

Truck stops are a great option for free overnight parking, as are any Native American-owned casinos.

Is renting a campervan/ RV in Los Angeles worth it?

The answer to this question is a resounding YES! From Highway One, to exploring the Sierras, beach towns, and deserts, renting a campervan in RV is 100% worth it.

With a campervan rental in California, you’ll not only save money on accommodation, but you’ll also get to see and experience more than you would by booking hotels.

Why is it worth booking a campervan in Los Angeles early?

With an RV rental from Los Angeles, you can spend time exploring this “City of Angels” before heading off down the Malibu coastline or inland to beautiful landscapes such as Joshua Tree National Park or Big Bear Lake. With no ties to one place and no fixed itinerary, California and further afield really is your oyster with a camper rental in Los Angeles. There is always a wide choice of vehicles available so your campervan can really be a comfortable home-from-home. And, the cost needn't break your budget. If a camper to rent in Los Angeles seems expensive at first glance, simply compare it with the cost of hotel accommodation, car rental, and dining out every day. While a campervan vacation can be enjoyed all year round in Los Angeles, the most popular period is between March and August. To be sure of getting your preferred dates and a van-price combination that suits your budget, CamperDays recommends booking several months in advance. Every booking comes with a fair and transparent cancellation policy and, should your vacation dates change, no additional charges for making alterations. Both before and after booking your campervan in Los Angeles, the friendly CamperDays customer service team is always available to answer any queries and concerns.

Useful Tips for Camping in Los Angeles

The best time of year to visit Los Angeles is from March to May and from September to November. In spring and autumn, the weather is usually great and the air is a lot fresher.

The city is well known for lots of places to go walking and hiking such as in Griffith Park or Angeles National Forest. Make sure to pack your hiking boots, as this is the ideal destination for anyone who loves hiking.

Los Angeles is home to some of America’s best beaches, therefore, make sure you visit Redondo Beach, El Matador State Beach and Malibu Lagoon State Beach. These beaches are great for surfing and for a refreshing dip.

Winter in Los Angeles is generally quite mild and sunny, which means you can still enjoy hiking or long walks around the city. If you would like to go skiing or snowboarding, we would recommend going to Bear Mountain or Mammoth Mountain.

Campervan offers for couples in Los Angeles

For a romantic trip for two exploring Los Angeles and other cities nearby, a smaller motorhome is just right. Discover our selection of vehicles for two people and explore together.

Kuga Camper

Campervan offers for families in Los Angeles

If you want to go on a family camping holiday in Los Angeles, we recommend a large motorhome. Alcove models are very popular with families with children, as the motorhomes are spacious and have several sleeping and seating areas.

A full national driving license is all you need.

The main driver must present a credit card when collecting a campervan. This is needed to pay the security and damages deposit.

The minimum age for driving a campervan in the States is 21. However, most companies prefer drivers to be over 25 and may add a surcharge for younger drivers.

As long as you have notified the rental company and checked your terms and conditions carefully, most rental companies have no problem with you crossing borders.

Most roads in California and beyond are fine for campervans although there are some that are unsuitable. Always discuss your proposed itinerary with your rental company.

Unless signs specifically say otherwise, you can park and camp anywhere overnight. This includes national parks and forests.

A road trip in a campervan makes an ideal family vacation. Just make sure you have the correct child seats. Most rental companies have some vehicles that are suitable for well-behaved dogs. Always check the terms and conditions.

Rent an RV in Los Angeles and explore

With both beautiful scenery and endless urban entertainment, Los Angeles is a holidaymaker’s dream. The city sprawls between mountains and coast, boasting an array of neighborhoods that range from upmarket Beverly Hills to the San Fernando Valley. There are endless stretches of sand to enjoy and some iconic attractions like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Disneyland, Griffith Observatory, the Hollywood Sign, and Santa Monica Pier. You’ll be kept busy during your time here.

Guide to driving your LA camper rental

Picking up your vehicle is an exciting time—but remember that safety always comes first! Prepare for an epic road trip by brushing up on the local road rules and learning all you can about the operation of your RV.

Here are our pointers for those renting a motorhome in Los Angeles, CA:

  • Most importantly, always drive your RV rental Los Angeles on the right-hand side of the road! If you are accustomed to driving on the left, take some time to adjust before you hit the highways.
  • Los Angeles can experience heavy traffic. Try to avoid traveling on the city’s roads during peak commute hours i.e early morning and late afternoon.
  • There are steep and hilly roads in several parts of the city and the immediate surrounding areas. Take care on these, especially with a large RV. Be prepared to pull over to allow others to pass.
  • Distances are posted in miles and speeds in miles per hour.
  • The default urban/residential speed limit in LA is 30 miles per hour. The state’s maximum speed limit is 70 miles per hour, allowed on rural freeways. Urban freeways and divided roads are usually set at 65 miles per hour. Always check speed limit signs on any given stretch of road.
  • If you are heading into the desert, make sure that your Los Angeles motorhome rental is stocked with water and food, and that you have a phone or form of communication with you. Some areas are remote.
  • The general blood alcohol concentration limit for drivers in California is 0.08%. We recommend that you abstain from drinking entirely before getting behind the wheel of your motorhome.

Our top tip for those getting RV rentals in from Los Angeles is to pay close attention to everything that the depot staff tells you during your orientation to the vehicle. They know the ins and outs of operating each motorhome, so are your best source of information. Take notes and ask questions until you are confident with how everything works.

Los Angeles RV rental destinations

Los Angeles itself is an unforgettable destination. But if you are renting a motorhome, it’s probably because you want to explore beyond the city limits and see a little more of the  USA .

Here are a few fantastic places you can go within a day’s drive of LA. Take a look at the list, add your own ideas, and you’ll have the start of a memorable RV rentals Los Angeles itinerary.

Las Vegas

We mentioned earlier that the drive from LA to Las Vegas in your motorhome rental is a very popular trip, and we weren’t kidding. It’s about a 4.5-hour drive via the I-15, and will see you pass through some scenic desert landscapes before reaching the bright lights of “Sin City.”

San Francisco

Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco.

San Diego

Just a few hours on the road heading south will see you in sunny, laidback San Diego. If you like watersports, this is the place to be! You’ll hug the coastline on the I-5 for some lovely coastal vistas and pass through a string of beach towns with Spanish names as you draw closer to San Diego and the Mexican border.

Phoenix

Just six hours from Los Angeles and across the California-Arizona border is Phoenix, a lively city rising like its namesake from the desert sands. With year-round warmth, this is the perfect winter destination. The motorhome rental trip to get there from LA offers more fantastic desert scenery. Whatever you do, don’t miss the opportunity to stop and enjoy the stunning Joshua Tree National Park along the way.

If you fancy starting your Australian camper trip adventure in another city, consider a Perth motorhome rental. Or you could begin a Sydney campervan hire adventure before heading on another road trip from Brisbane.

This company sucks and specially this location the Rv that I rented was dirty and the water pump went out on my trip also the AC didn't work at all I had my family with me for 4 nights and it was horrible! No water in the Rv and no AC I called the main office for help but they only keep saying they were going to get some one to help me and finally after many calls they stop answering my calls so in conclusion do your research before calling them and please stay away from cruise America company it's really bad

check in employee Caweg We had rented this RV to attend our daughter's wedding in Joshua Tree, California. We had a set schedule of times and events planned. The RV was going to be our place for: sleeping, food preparations, eating, dressing room, and living for the 3 nights during the weekend celebrations, events, and festivities. On 11/11/22 - the Downey Cruise America location successfully ruined our entire planned trip, participation, and experience for our daughter's wedding. On October 26, 2022, we reserved online, an RV rental for 3 nights starting November 11, returning November 14, 2022. The pick-up and drop off location was: Xpress Auto Rentals 8460 TELEGRAPH RD DOWNEY, CA 90240. On 11/6/22 (562) 806-2541 We noted a very large crack across the driver's side windshield; the crack went from the top of the glass to the bottom & another crack in the windshield on the passenger's side. After consulting 2 police officers from two different city's within the LA County Sheriff's department & looking on the internet, about the law of driving with a cracked windshield, all of which confirmed what we had thought, it is ILLEGAL to drive with an cracked windshield. "California's traffic laws prohibit driving with a cracked windshield. State law does not permit drivers to operate a vehicle when their vision is impaired. State of California does not permit you to drive a vehicle if driver's vision is impaired. Cracked front or back windshield can get you a citation regardless of crack size or position. California's Vehicle Code (VC) Section 26710: Defective Windshields and Rear Windows" Also, see attached vehicle code 24010 - rental cars must be safe and sound. Having been presented with the legality of NOT being permitted to drive the RV off the lot, the men offered us other RV's, all of which the refrigerators were not working. There was not one RV available that was in complete working rental condition. This was particularly frustrating in that we reserved and paid for an RV that meets legal safety standards and is proven as road worthy. It is the responsibility of Cruise America to rent road legal vehicles, yet, this location clearly does not adhere to this legal or ethical standard of practice. In fact, management's blatant disregard for customer safety was fundamentally apparent in their interactions with other customers at the location during our visit: There was a mother and daughter renting an RV ahead of us, and despite the RV they were renting having a "low tire pressure" light on, the Xpress Auto employees told them it was perfectly okay to drive it all the way to Utah and back with the light on. The employees continued to be rude, aggressive, belligerent, and unprofessional. We arrived extremely late at the end of the first night of events, missing out on the festivities for the wedding, once again due to Cruise America and the Downey locations lack of competence. We won't ever get back the time and lost memories we should have had with our daughter on her important day, we finally arrived at Joshua Tree after 11:00 pm when the first night of fun was over as well as the rehearsal dinner that we missed, all due to the negligence and dismissive practices of Cruise America. If we had been given advanced notice that the RV was not road worthy, we would have been prepared, instead, we trusted Cruise America and the contract we agreed on.

I recently rented the large RV from Cruise America in Carson, California for a 7-day family vacation, and I must say, our experience was extremely disappointing. From the onset, our encounter with the company was less than satisfactory. The representative (a Hispanic lady with a sleeve arm tattoos) who showed us the RV rushed through the introduction in just 5 minutes, even though she knew it was our first time renting. Her attitude was mean, rude and unpleasant, which started our trip on a sour note. The RV itself was a far cry from what was pictured online. It was visibly old and lacked key features that are essential for a comfortable journey, including a USB port to charge our phones and for navigation. We also discovered critical issues such as a broken driver-side mirror that would not stay in position fem to look out of, which made driving dangerous. To add to our discomfort, we had no hot water for the duration of our trip, a fact that made our journey quite miserable for my wife and kids. When we called their helpline, their solution was for us to disrupt our vacation and drive two hours to a repair shop. The idea of spending a precious day of our trip at a dirty auto shop was frustrating and impractical. On return, we hoped to address these issues with the company. However, we were met with the same unhelpful and dismissive attitude from the same lady. A very ugly and mean spirited person. Requests to speak with a manager were brushed off with excuses about him being busy. Also, be aware of numerous hidden fees and upselling tactics when going to pick up your RV if you are unfortunate enough to find a different company. They appeared to be more interested in nickel-and-diming us than providing a satisfactory service. In short, our experience with Cruise America was far from the enjoyable family vacation we had envisioned. Between the poor customer service, the quality of the RV, and the company's response to our issues, I am left with no option but to rate our experience with one star. I would strongly caution anyone considering renting from Cruise America to think twice. This company's line of RV's will ruin your trip, I promise.

Rented a 30' RV for a trip up North to Big Sur. During the trip up the engine began making a winding noise. We reported it to Cruise America and were told we should be good for our three day trip and just continue driving. We then checked our tire pressure at our first stop and found both front tires were completely worn on the inside. When we hooked up to water it began to leak from under the RV. We found water was leaking from the interior storage area and soaked all our firewood and items stored. When we brought these to the attention of the company at turn in, we were given excuses and told things can be missed by "human error". Absolutely no compensation or price adjustment was given for these inconveniences and extreme hazards. It definitely appears the RVs from this location are being constantly pushed through with no preventive maintenance or checks between rentals. BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN RENTING!

Photo of Justin R.

My family and I planned a trip to Yosemite for five days and we loved our 30+ foot RV. Came with everything we needed and more, picking up was easy and delivering was even easier. Definitely going to be using them in the future.

Must be better options out there. If zero ratings were an option, that's what I'd rate them on customer service/relationship and 2 stars maybe 2.5 on the quality of their vehicle. (Go to #6 for quality of vehicle. All other points are based on the quality of experience). 1. They tried giving us filthy dirty vehicle (inside & outside). We had to push them to clean out at least the trunk part as the dumping hose was out and filth was smeared all over. Quite gross but it was too late for us to cancel, fight for full refund and then find another rental. 2. On our entire trip we didn't use the restroom or sinks within the vehicle as we were not comfortable doing the dumping ourselves (first-timers!). At the time of return, the rude staff guy first yelled at us for not leaving the valves open saying it's THE LAW and what not. And then went ahead & pulled out the toilet valve and magically a small amount of liquid came out - from the toilet??!!! How??!! We did not even use it! When I exclaimed, the rude guy yelled at me saying - "if it's not yours then whose is it?" Dude that's for you to know. You're basically calling your customer a liar. We honestly didn't use the RV toilet, I can't say that enough!!! Read #3 for why my logical brain thinks we got scammed. 3. We were not told that we had to leave the valves open at the time of return, while we were picking up, and were explicitly asked NOT to touch the valves unless we're dumping. Being first timers (and they knew we were) we were inclined to following as we were told. My question now, why didn't you let us open the valves to check that you really actually cleaned the dump when you gave us the vehicle, if you were going to be so finicky about it later?! At that time, they were friendly and it was more like in good faith and the sensor light showing it empty and that's all. Now I feel if we did check the valves back then we would've found out they didn't do the dumping (just like they didn't clean) or at least didn't empty it completely. Lesson learned! And perhaps their sensor does not (or is calibrated not to) read tiny levels of liquid. But anyhow, they charged us full dumping fee for half bucket of that magical fluid. 4. Their sensor for propane also showed false readings. We gave them more propane than they gave us which was fine by us but we did call them out for defective sensors. The rude staff guy was non-receptive to any feedback. 5. Pet policy: we were okay paying a fee for the pet, we always do. Even though we vacuumed the whole vehicle before returning, we did expect some fee. We were just not aware that it'd be a flat non negotiable $250. So it was just a normal 'whoa!!' on our end, and not saying that we won't pay it. The rude guy interpreted it as a no and the rest was unnecessary. 6. Vehicle itself was VERY noisy, with old interiors and not very responsive brakes. The mileage was quite poor, not sure if all RVs are like that or just this one. Also they gave us Cruise Canada, again not sure if that line is maintained the same way as Cruise America or is older models. On the call they said their vehicles are 2018 and up for 2022 but ours seemed pretty old. 7. Another absurd thing, while we were going through all this with this weird guy, suddenly an old lady comes in from her cabin and says "don't scream please" and that's only when we started to talk back after listening to her staff's BS on every tiny thing. Does she have selective hearing and is totally deaf to her staff's yelling! For half an hour we were hearing this guy's rant and she comes out only when we talk back? I tried making my point with Action Reaction Principal but she just went in loop and shut the door at us. If I were the manager I'd be more interested in finding out what's all the noise about rather than just pop in randomly say something and leave. That's condescending and opinionated, and odd! To wrap up, our trip was great, we had a lot of fun. We would definitely NOT recommend Cruise America (esp. at Downey) to anyone and would explore RVshare or something else in future and prioritize finding a well maintained vehicle with good service. On our entire trip, we barely just saw 1-2 more of these among the hundreds of RVs we came across. That goes to say it's not the most popular choice. We thought we were saving money with Cruise America, but ended up paying about the same during turn in, plus the unpleasant interaction. Not worth anyone's time, energy and buck.

Photo of Bobby H.

The staff and everything here are nice and well trained and seemed super bored. I felt bad for them. They guessed that it may be the season or the gas hikes inflation preventing the RVs from being rented. It was a totally full lot with only me renting and returning! Indeed it is expensive! What you really need to know is that its not any cheaper renting VS staying in 5 star hotel with an escalade too boot when you take everything into consideration on planning your trip. Plan on spending on average depending on how you travel about 500/600 a day. That's RV, GAS (can ave about 150-200 a day easy!) RV site all the incidentals and everything. Now all that's just fine and dandy but you need to take a deep breath when you pull the trigger on these things. Its a lot to kind of manage. If you have a co pilot that is REALLY gonna help you change the poo hose and plug it in and all that on and on. WELLIts gonna help with your decision here. If just YOU micro managing the whole lot with people waiting on you and stuff.. IT on the needs DONT DO IT! This is well suited for a big family, pets and the whole posse. The bigger one is nicer but cost more in gas than the smaller which are more expensive. You probably end up paying the same. Pros: The shower works great, the videos are super helpful. When you are at a RV site you can just plug the AC in and all the appliances work great. Its all relatively comfy inside. Cons: This thing is LOUD even at 60MPHOUR. Its pushing a brick through the wind folks. My ears are still ringing from my trip. You will have to shout to talk. It rattles and vibrates BIGTIME. You will be a little numb after a trip. I can't say i would rent again. its just too expensive and SO LOUD. However, this thing would ROCK at an all day festival type deal. Now THAT might where this thing shines or convention or something where you don't drive far. Get 5 peeps to chip in and go to that all dayer in style!

Photo of Vanessa Y.

They are a big scam. They make you do the walk around yourselves, don't check if the renter has any basic items that come with the RV.. such as a hose! Don't tell you to leave valves open when you return the rental. Another renter returning same time as us said his water heater didn't work. This place is useless.. Cruise America should rethink renting their RVs out of Xpress Auto. Horrible horrible horrible service! Trying to give 0 stars but can't post unless there's a star.

Overall experience was pretty good. Price: Wasn't as high as I originally thought. I paid $280 for 4 nights with an online promo code that I found online FRD300. Of course the price can go up depending on generator, propane use, miles overage, tax 10%, etc. Mileage: With the RV it comes with 300 miles. If you go over, it's $.35 extra each mile. I also bought an extra 100 miles for $35.00 since I estimated how far I was going round trip. RV size: I got the standard size (C25) that sleeps 5. There was only 3 of us so it was perfect. Security Deposit: The security deposit that they charge when you check-in is $500. When I returned the RV, minus the miles I went over I got most of it back. I was worried they might make up stuff or find something to not return my deposit luckily I had no issues. I only bring this up, is because I've experienced it with a different company and oh man what a headache that is. Just be sure to go through the RV thoroughly before driving off the lot & noting was damage was already there if any. Sewage: I drained both the black water & gray water at the campsite before returning the RV. However when I brought the RV back, I was told the cap is supposed to be left open and both valves opened. Luckily when they checked and opened the valves very little came out so they did not charge me for dumping fees. Thank goodness but something for all you that are new to renting rv from here to keep in mind. Cleanliness: When we got the RV, there was some sand on the over hang bed and in some corners. It could of been cleaner but wasn't too bad. I probably returned it cleaner than I got it. Gas: When I received the RV, it would of been nice if it was already at full tank. It was at 1/4 tank so a little disappointing that I already had to gas up. Maybe something they can improve on. Customer service: I worked with 2 different gentleman, one when checking in and another when returning the rv. Both gentlemen were professional, unfortunately I didn't catch there name's. I don't think either of them were wearing name tags or I would of remembered. The mechanics or service gentleman was professional and very friendly. I complained that the front windshield was extremely dirty and full of bug splatter. He cleaned it right away and asked if everything else was fine before we left. We also had small talk about my trip which helped. Again my experience was pretty good. I would probably try it again and would recommend it to others.

cruise america rv los angeles

Open during COVID. Rented a large RV, and while drivable was mechanically strained (black oil, worn down suspension, etc.) The RV's are gassoline powered, and we couldn't wonder if diesel powered trucks wouldn't have been better for hauling. The costs were acceptable, except look out for fees when turning in the RV: sewage, water, pet hair, propane, Gas.
