Best Cruises to Aruba

Oct 25, 2019, jennifer richardson.

So you're planning your next cruise with Aruba on the itinerary...

When it comes to vacations, there’s nothing like going on an Aruba cruise : from stunning ocean views to fun-filled excursions at various ports along the way—cruises are truly one of the best ways to see the world while enjoying luxurious, all-inclusive amenities.

And this is especially true when it comes to cruises in the Caribbean, as it’s quite possible to see the very best of the Caribbean in a single, unforgettable trip.

In this article, we’ll explore some of the best Caribbean cruises to and around Aruba. There’s a lot to discover, so let’s get into it!

Why Travel to Aruba?

In Aruba, guests are treated to sunshine that just won’t quit, and the island consistently ranks as having the fewest number of rainy days in the Southern Caribbean, and what’s more, Aruba is also just outside the hurricane belt, making a direct hit from a hurricane an extremely rare occurrence.

Besides the persistent, 82-degree weather, Aruba is also one of the safest places to visit in the Caribbean , with low rates of both violent and petty crime. Indeed, Aruba has earned its nickname of the “One happy island”, and those who choose to visit will find an island brimming with exciting things to do, interesting places to explore, and a rich and diverse people who are friendly and helpful.

When taking a cruise to Aruba, guests will find themselves at Oranjestad Aruba Cruise Port, which is conveniently located within walking distance of various restaurants, bars, shops, and fun activities like Jeep Safari Tours.

However, it’s best to plan your Aruba adventure so you can make the most of your time in Aruba. There are plenty of things to do in Aruba on a cruise , so it’s best to start planning as soon as you can! If you’re looking for a more laid back experience, Oranjestad offers guided- walking tours with local experts who can educate you on the city’s rich and diverse history. If you’d rather spend your time on Aruba’s famous, white-sand beaches, Surfside Beach is only a 15-minute walk away! Alternatively, taking a taxi to any of the other nearby beaches is also an option.

And if you’re carrying U.S dollars, there’s no need to worry about currency exchanges as it’s accepted everywhere.

Top Picks for Cruises to Aruba

Choosing the right cruise liner can be tricky, especially since there are so many options to choose from—but don’t worry, we’ve done most of the research for you!

So, without further ado, we present to you our top picks for cruises to Aruba:

Carnival Cruises

Carnival  stands apart from other companies on this list, as they’re by far the largest and most diverse cruise line on the planet.

And being the biggest has some perks, especially when it comes to ship variety and onboard amenities. Take, for instance, the Breeze cruise ship: this cruise liner offers 8-day cruises spanning Fort Lauderdale, Grand Turk, La Romana, Aruba, and Curacao, making it an ideal choice for travelers who want to experience everything the Caribbean has to offer.

The Breeze cruise ship also features premium amenities that are simply to die for. For example, Breeze features an onboard waterpark known as WaterWorks—that’s right, this cruise ship has a massive waterpark located right on the ship! With Rides like Twister—a high-speed waterslide that spans hundreds of feet—and Speedway Splash that features special lighting effects, WaterWorks offers great fun in the sun for travelers of all ages.

Other amenities include an onboard theater featuring full-blown musical productions, a daycare for kids known as Camp Ocean, and a luxurious spa that’s perfect for taking a break from the day’s excitement.

For food, Breeze offers a whole host of dining options, ranging from gourmet burgers, bar-b-que, steaks, pizza, and Mexican favorites like freshly made tacos and burritos.

Accommodations on this ship include 4 room types, ranging from Interior Cabins perfect for couples to Ocean Suites featuring balconies and spacious interiors capable of sleeping 4 guests.

Needless to say, no matter what you’re looking for in an Aruban cruise, Carnival Cruises has something for everyone!

Royal Caribbean

Besides Carnival, no other cruise line has the brand recognition of Royal Caribbean . Indeed, Royal Caribbean is the largest cruise line by revenue, and operates 4 of the largest cruise ships in the entire world!

And, if you’re looking to travel to Aruba , Royal Caribbean has some of the best offerings in the industry.

For example, Royal Caribbean offers an 11-night cruise spanning, Boston, San Juan, Willemstad, Oranjestad , George Town, and Tampa aboard the Brilliance of the Sea cruise liner.

Aboard the Brilliance of the Sea, travelers will find top-notch amenities, like a 40 ft. rock climbing wall, mini-golf, an arcade, shopping, live music, a spa and fitness center, and so much more!

Brilliance of the Sea also offers several premium bars and lounges, like the swanky Schooner Bar. Here, guests can enjoy live music from a piano while sipping their favorite cocktails. If you’d prefer to stay near the pool, Brilliance of the Sea also offers a Pool Bar serving up delicious frozen drinks like Mojitos, Mai Tais, and icy cold imported beers.

For food, Brilliance of the Sea offers a variety of options, including 24-hour room service! If it’s a quick bite that you’re after, Park Café serves up fresh deli sandwiches and made-to-order salads (make sure to try the “Kummelweck”!).

If fine dining is more to your taste, then Chef’s Table is definitely for you. Here, guests are treated to a 5-course meal, where each course is carefully presented by the Chef de Cuisine who explains how the dish was prepared and what ingredients were included. Topping it all off is a sommelier that pairs every course with a fine wine chosen to complement and highlight the flavors you’re experiencing.

Accommodations aboard the Brilliance of the Sea include award-winning rooms perfect for babies, couples, and large families. No matter what you’re looking for, Royal Caribbean has you covered: want a spacious interior room that’s elegantly decorated? Check! A suite with its own private balcony and lounge chairs? No problem!

Norwegian Cruise Line

Even though it may not be as big as the previous entries on this list, Norwegian Cruise Line is still a top pick for traveling to Aruba. In fact, Norwegian Cruise line was recently named the “Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Line” for the 7th consecutive year at the World Travel Awards, making it one of the best cruise line for the southern Caribbean.

What’s the big deal?

For starters, Norwegian Cruise Line offers unique amenities that can’t be found on any other cruise liner. On vessels such as the Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Bliss, and Norwegian Encore, guest can enjoy race tracks and open-air laser tag courses. In addition, some ships even come with a quarter-mile long oceanfront promenade where guests can indulge in interesting conversation and breathtaking views.

Norwegian Cruise Line also differentiates itself with luxury accommodations that are a sight to behold. Take, for instance, the Haven: hidden away at the top of the ship is an expansive and spacious suite selection that offers 24-hour butler service and a private deck with plenty of seating for large groups. Also, Norwegian Cruise Line offers guests of the Haven a “Free at Sea” package, where they can enjoy an unlimited open bar, specialty dining, shore excursion credits, Wi-Fi, and more!

If you want to experience some of these modern amenities and accommodations, Norwegian Cruise Line offers a 21-day trip that spans California, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Santa Maria, Oranjestad, Willemstad, and New York.

Aboard the Norwegian Bliss, guests can enjoy the largest race track at sea, laser tag, a revolutionary observation lounge offering the most expansive views of the Caribbean, and luxurious accommodations, including the Haven!

If 21-days at sea are too much, Norwegian Cruise Line also offers shorter, 7-day trips that span Puerto Rico, Oranjestad, Kralendijk, Castries, and Basseterre aboard the Norwegian Epic.

Celebrity Cruises

For the 2nd year in a row, Celebrity Cruises (a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean) has won the annual award for Best Southern Caribbean Cruise Line from Cruise Critic—adding to its already impressive collection of awards and accolades in recent years.

Indeed, Celebrity Cruises takes great pride in differentiating itself from the rest of the pack by bringing together world-class architects, interior designers, and landscape artists to create environments and spaces that are not only awe-inspiring but welcoming as well.

In addition to top-notch designs, Celebrity Cruises also offers impeccable accommodations featuring world-class luxuries like personal butler service, a private restaurant, and an exclusive lounge—but that’s not the best part. The best part is that Celebrity Cruises is the only cruise line to offer these exclusive amenities to every suite guest!

When traveling to Aruba, we recommend this 7-day trip spanning San Juan, Basseterre, Oranjestad, Willemstad, and Kralendijk aboard the Celebrity Summit.

Recently renovated in March 2019, Celebrity Summit offers a wide range of dining options, including the Tuscan Grill—an Italian ristorante serving handmade pasta, artisanal salumi, and butcher cut meats—and Sushi on Five, a Japanese restaurant serving authentically prepared sushi and other Japanese specialties.

And if you need to get in a workout before you hit the pool, Canyon Ranch fitness has everything you need to burn those calories. From treadmills, to ellipticals, to free weights, to a full jogging track—Celebrity Summit has everything you need to stay in tip-top shape.

For lounges and bars, Celebrity Summit includes 5 unique places to get your drink on, including Cellar Masters—an elegant lounge featuring 400 wines from all over the world—and the Sunset Bar offering spectacular views and a country club-esque atmosphere.

Accommodations aboard the Celebrity Summit include 5 room types, including Inside, Ocean View, Veranda, Concierge Class, AquaClass, and Suites.

Regent Cruise Line

If it’s luxury that you’re after, then it doesn’t get any better than Regent Cruise Line (a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line).

In fact, Regent Cruise Line has recently won a variety of impressive awards in 2019, including:

  • Best All-Inclusive Cruise – Fodor’s Travel Awards 2019
  • Best All-Inclusive Luxury Cruise Line – TravelAge West Wave Awards 2019
  • Best Suites-Cruise – TravelAge West Wave Awards 2019

What’s more, Regent Cruises has been chosen as the world’s top-rated cruise line six times by readers of Conde Nast Traveler and other travel magazines—helping establish it as a leader in the 6-star cruise line industry.

To get a feel for what Regent Cruise has to offer, check out their Seven Seas Explorer Vessel. This all-suite vessel features the Regent Suite that has approximately 4,443 square feet of room, which is about as big as a 5-bedroom house!

Amenities for this suite include 2 spacious bedrooms, 2 private balconies with a custom-made Treesee Heated Minipool Spa, 2 ½ marble and stone detailed bathrooms, a private in-suite spa with sauna, a spacious living room, and a custom Steinway Grand Maroque Piano by Dakota Jackson.

Amenities aboard the Seven Seas Explorer include 7 world-class restaurants, like Prime 7—a handsomely decorated restaurant serving up the very best filet mignons and côte de boeuf—and a pool grill for casual dining.

For entertainment, Seven Seas Explorer has a full-fledged casino where you can try your luck at Blackjack, roulette, poker, slot machines, and full-sized craps tables. If gambling isn’t your thing, there’s also the Constellation Theater where guests can enjoy full-scale musical revues and cabaret shows—both of which backed by the five-piece Regent Signature Orchestra.

When going on a southern Caribbean cruise, Regent Cruises offers a 12-night cruise aboard the Seven Seas Explorer spanning Miami, Oranjestad, Willemstad, Kralendijk, St. George’s, Castries, and many more must-see Caribbean locations!

Princess Cruises

Like Regent Cruises, Princess Cruises is a luxury-focused cruise line offering high-class amenities, captivating live shows, and technology packages like keyless entry to make your embarkment smooth and enjoyable. In terms of awards, Princess Cruises might just be the most decorated cruise line on this list—just check out their Awards & Accolades page.

For example, Princess Cruises offers a 10-day cruise spanning across New York City, St. Maarten, Antigua, Aruba, Ft. Lauderdale aboard the Regal Princess, which features sweeping views and even a glass-floor walkway that extends 28 feet beyond the edge of the ship!

The Regal Princess also is equipped with Princess Medallion Class amenities which includes a “wearable” device called the OceanMedallion™, which enables an entirely new level of service and personalized attention. This handy gadget is beautifully designed to be worn as a pendant, sports band, bracelet, or if discrete is more your style, it can be fastened to clothing via a clip. Once your wearable is synced to the MedallionClass app, you can unlock all kinds of services and features like ordering food by the poolside, booking reservations, or even automatically opening your stateroom door as you approach—neat!

Princess Cruises also spares no expense when it comes to accommodations. Each room comes equipped with gorgeous furnishings and luxury beds that were developed and certified by sleep expert Dr. Michael Breus.

If you’re looking for something to do aboard the Regal Princess, you can expect a wide variety of entertainment options including shows, musicals, standup comedy, and even an exclusive open-air poolside amphitheater to watch feature films while cozying up under the stars.

Princess Cruises also offers shorter, 8-day trips that span Ft. Lauderdale, Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire in the Caribbean Netherlands and return trip to the original port aboard the Sky Princess.

Holland America Line

Last, but not least, is the Holland America Line (subsidiary of Carnival Cruises). This cruise line is the winner of several prestigious awards, including:

  • Best in Alaska – Cruise Critic
  • Best in the Mexican Rivera – Cruise Critic
  • Best in the Panama Canal – Cruise Critic

To get to Aruba, we recommend this 10-day cruise spanning Fort Lauderdale, Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, Amber Cove, Kralendijk, Willemstad, and of course, Oranjestad.

This cruise takes you aboard the Volendam, a mid-sized vessel featuring great amenities and activities like the Digital Workshop—a place where guests can learn how to edit and display their vacation videos and photographs—and the Mainstage where guests can enjoy comedy acts and exclusives such as the BBC Earth Experiences live show.

Volendam also features Club HAL where kids ages 3-17 can engage in arts and crafts, sports, video game competitions, scavenger hunts, challenging team games, and themed parties—all under the supervision of a professionally trained staff!

This vessel also houses a variety of exciting places to eat, like the Lido Market that features freshly baked bread and pastries, hearty salads, hand-carved meats, fish, and much more. This modern marketplace also offers a variety of chilled juices, premium coffee, beer, wine, and soft drinks.

For a little more sophistication, there’s also The Dining Room that offers elegant breakfasts and multi-course dinners. Run by the ships very own Culinary Council—an elite team of world-renowned chefs—The Dining Room aims to bring perfection to every dish. For dinner, guests can choose between boneless lamb loin en croute, rosemary roasted chicken, and a variety of vegetarian-friendly dishes as well!

Accommodations on this vessel include 5 room types: Inside, Ocean View, Lanai, Vista Suite, and the Neptune & Pinnacle Suite.

Disney Cruise Line

The magic of Aruba meets the wonder of Disney when Disney Cruise Line sails to Oranjestad. Along with visits to Antigua, Bonaire, Curaçao, and two delightful days at sea—plus an entire day in Aruba—the Disney Wonder makes 7-day sailings through the Caribbean an  ideal choice for travelers who want to experience everything this part of the world has to offer.

As part of the broader Disney world, Disney Cruise Line ships come with a number of unique benefits. Select cruises offer the opportunity to extend your vacation with a trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida before or after your cruise.

Aboard the ship, first-run movies from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Fox could be playing—Avengers: Endgame at sea, anyone? On the upper decks, guests can find a variety of pools—from interactive splash zones to serene adult retreats that make it easy to get the tan you’ve always wanted.

If fun in the sun sounds a little too hot, the Disney Wonder offers a number of ways to cool off. For the younger ones, Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab offer uniquely-themed indoor play spaces. Tweens and teens have their own special areas, while the adults enjoy their drinks and dancing. And the entire family can get downright chilly when Frozen, A Musical Spectacular plays aboard the ship—something you can only find aboard Disney Cruise Line.

For those who might be a bit hungry from all the excitement, the Disney Wonder offers an endless array of options. With Rotational Dining, guests can experience a different restaurant and a different menu every night of the voyage. Snack options are conveniently located around the ship, and soda, water, coffee, and hot chocolate is included in the cruise fare.

Accommodations come in four main categories, ranging from Inside cabins with porthole-shaped mirrors to the limited-availability Concierge Royal Suite—a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom retreat with Concierge services. But no matter which stateroom is right for your family, all the fun comes standard.

So, no matter what you could be looking for in a cruise to Aruba and beyond, Disney Cruise Line offers options for the entire family.

Has anyone been on this itinerary? If so, what did you like or dislike about it? We're leaving to go on it in a few weeks. We'd like to know as much as possible about it?

Hello Sonicbuffalo ( great name),

DW and I went on the MIRACLE in Feb. that had this itinerary.

Grand Turk- great day for chilling at the beach right beside the ship.

Half decent snorkelling ......go into the complex and make a right......past the small pier and down the beach until you reach a small reef. Enjoy!

LaRamano- Not much to see . Granted we didn't go into town.

Small tourist bar near the port.....cheezy souvenirs. Walked around and tried to watch some Dominican kids play baseball at the clinic.

Aruba- Did the MI Dushu sail boat and snorkelling tour. No big whoop.

Water was nice but the guys running the tour had a hard time tieing up at one spot and wasted about a half hour. Snorkelled a sunken ship and the water was kind choppy and the water was murky. :(

Curacao- Don't miss the Aquarium if it's open . Great spot. Dolphin encounter, beginner scuba etc. Book on your own.....save some $$$$$

Great downtown area with a pontoon bridge. Go over and see the shops on the other side. Fantastic HUGE bridge that the freighters go under as well. Some flea market stalls and the natives don't seem as pushy as the other islands.

We enjoyed the 8 day itinerary and the other sea days were great as well.

Hope you have smooth seas and don't feed the fish over the railing!

All the best,

TIGERS CRUISER

Yes...La Romana doesn't sound too inticing...but we have Bully booked for a tour and Indie Tours in Curacao. Grand Turk will probably be a beach day. The independent tours are few on this itinerary. I'm sure we'll have a great time though...but not doing the Bayhibe Beach Tour in La Romana. Many arefrom our roll call, but not us. Too much $$$ for not enough in return. We were thinking of the Catamaran Tour on la Romana.

StingRaysfan

StingRaysfan

Thank you for this thread! Can't wait to hear some more answers! We are doing this itinerary in May and there is not to much on it out there... especially about the Dominican Republic. I'm very excited about Aruba and Curacao!

10,000+ Club

happy cruzin

We did this itinerary in January - on the Miracle.

We did Catalina Island (a private CCL beach) instead of LaRomana - but we have done LaRomana before and I agree that there is not alot there. Heard there is good golf nearby - but we aren't golfers!

But....back to your itinerary.... WE LOVED IT - one of our best cruises EVER!!

In Aruba we did the "Sunset Dinner on the Beach" at the Passions Resort. It was FANTASTIC. Food was great and having dinner on the beach as the sun sets - with a drink in your hand and your feet in the sand can not be beat ;) :D.

I have attached a few pictures - but they do not do it justice!! :o :D

In Curacao we went in to town. Don't miss the swinging bridge in action - it is pretty neat. We wandered up and down the streets and throughly enjoyed the architecture and beauty of Curacao. There is a Fort - very near where we docked - that has been converted to shops and restaurants - so there are plenty of places to enjoy a drink and get a bite to eat, if you'd like.

Grand Turk we hung out at Margaritaville for a while and ended up planted on a lounge chair on the beach to enjoy some sunshine and warmth - since we had come from the frigid northeast!

LaRomana - definitely go to a nearby AI (maybe Dreams?)for a beach/pool/lunch excursion. There's nothing near the pier, so get out a bit. The Cat tour might be a long bus ride past bayahibe and then a cruise to Sanoa Is.?

Grand Turk - nicest beach is a 5 minute walk past where the crowd's flop, food/drinks are cheaper and less crowded. Good snorkel excursions at this port also.

Aruba - nice calm beach under the lighthouse, may be called Fisherman's Huts or something. Weird backside to this isle, lots of boulders & cacti, I thought it resembled northern Utah or southern Nevadan deserts.

Frequent Floater

Frequent Floater

Loved this itinerary. Did it back in April and had a great time. All tours I set up private to save money for the group that was with me.

Grand Turk Jacks Shack

Curacao, Irie tours

Aruba We alway use Kuku Kunkoo. You can book thru the ship or if enough of the roll call you can charter.

La Romana, Seavis tours in Bayahibe was wonderful in setting up a nice day over to Saona and Paradise Beach. Again if you get the roll call to go along it is very reasonable to charter.

Alexander, the owner, took great care to help me set up taxis to and from.

We all still speak about how great this tour was

LaRomana - definitely go to a nearby AI (maybe Dreams?)for a beach/pool/lunch excursion. There's nothing near the pier, so get out a bit. The Cat tour might be a long bus ride past bayahibe and then a cruise to Sanoa Is.? Grand Turk - nicest beach is a 5 minute walk past where the crowd's flop, food/drinks are cheaper and less crowded. Good point!!

We too were VERY surprised with Aruba during our first visit in 2005. It arid (to the point of cacti and tumbleweeds ) is not at all tropical - as we had expected :o.

OP - on that visit we (and another couple traveling with us) rented a "jeep type" vehicle and we took off to explore the island. It was a great way to see Aruba the first time.

There are beautiful beaches, churches, dunes - and the lighthouse is not to be missed either. There was a restaurant at the lighthouse when we were there that would have been a great place to have lunch - had we known about it .

IslandToIsland

IslandToIsland

We did this itinerary in Feb on the Miracle.

Grand Turk- We rented golf carts and toured the island. Although we were with a few people and one of their carts literally went up in flames. I'm hoping that doesn't happen very often.

Aruba- We used Bully and toured the island then went to the beach.

Curacao- We went to the Hilton during the day and walked around a little at night.

La Romana- We did Dreams and absolutely loved it. Would go back there in a heartbeat.

Curious about the transportaion you used. Did you arrange for a cab/van or were you able to get a ride at the port?

We went with a big group and I had arranged transportation ahead of time with an outside company, I can't remember the name right now, but I wouldn't suggest doing that. We had a very difficult time getting out of the gates. I guess the port authorities were mad we weren't using their transportation and kept us waiting and waiting. I would definitely suggest getting cabs right at the port.

We did this itinerary in December on the Miracle....it was AWESOME! We didn't plan anything on this trip.....instead, we got off the ship in each port and got a 2-3 hour taxi tour for about $20pp. We were happy with what we did.

In La Romana, this allowed us to see things but they took us to these awful souvenier shops, drove is around Casa de Campo to show is the big houses....only thing that stood out to us were all the people riding mopeds while holding a propane tank or a baby off to the side. Wouldn't go back there really.

In Grand Turk, we did the beach & pool at Margarritaville.....but Jack's Shack is a but further down the beach and is MUCH less expensive for srinks & food...and I think they still have FREE WIFI. Then we took a taxi into town...the OLD town....and walked around a bit, was nice to not be around a huge group of people...old time shops there that backed up to the ocean..was nice.

Aruba, again, did a 3-hr tour that included taking us to the rock formation thing AND the California Lighthouse....which was awesome to see the Atlantic meet the Carribbean. Then they dropped us at the beach for 2-3 hours right by the Westin....was beautiful...I also thought Aruba was supposed to be lush & tropical....had no idea it was a desert island really. Funny to learn they import all their Christmas trees from Canada. Was also weird to see Tire Kingdom on the main road from the beach to the downtown port area.

Curacao was our FAVORITE place. Did nother taxi tour here and walked around the main town area for a while....had NO IDEA that Curacao is a huge oil rifining island either....the swinging bridge was cool....we really want to go back there and stay at the Renaissance that has the infinity edge, man-made salt water "beach" that overlooks the ocean....along with the infinity edge freshwater pool!

have fun with this....seriously considering this itinerary again...even on Royal Caribbean Adevnture of the Seas out of San Juan....has a sea day up front, 2 ports, sea day, Curacao & Aruba and another sea day....anything to skip La Romana. I know lots of people on our trip did the Dreams resort.....but I wasn't spending $60pp to go spend 3 hours on the beach....which is about our time limit...and we certainly weren't going to drink $60 worth.....but everyone who went that we spoke to love it...

So excited to see this thread, we are doing this cruise in January and not much info out about the ports.

While in La Romana, Dominican Republic, we went to the Higuey Basilica & Bayahibe Fishing Village

Loved our visited to the Basilica de Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, mecca for pilgrims seeking health or spiritual well-being. It was hugh and we loved the beauty of this Catholic basilica. We then went to San Rafael de Yuma where you we viewed the former home of Juan Ponce de Leon, Spanish Conquistador and first Governor of Higüey.

We found the town of Bayahibe to be a joke, wish we would have stayed on the bus for the most part. All of the buildings were boarded up.

We absolutly loved the cruise.

It was an awesome day at Dreams. Great food, all you wanted, great drinks, fresh cut fruit, beautiful pool. We did the beach and rented the water bikes. (included, no cost) Had a blast.

Would def do this type of day again since there really isn't much of anything in LaRomana.

We are doing this itinerary in May on the Freedom, we plan on doing an all inclusive at Dreams at La Romana - it's $65 for the day all you can eat and drink at their private beach

Planning to try Dreams next Nov on the Breeze sailing..have heard nothing but great things including feedback from people who actually stayed there for the week on a land trip.

Looks like we were on the same cruise with Happy Cruzin and we also found it to be one of our favorite cruises!!

Aruba - We also did the sunset dinner at "Passions on the Beach." Would highly recommend it - great experience!! I have noticed that not many itineries are in Aruba at night now though. They seem to be doing Curaco at night now...

Curaco - we took a taxi to Playa Porto Mari and had a nice beach day. http://www.playaportomari.com/ Taxi was $20pp plus a small entry fee ($5??) Beach was a little rocky but great snorkeling.

Grand Turk - we always rent a golf cart from Nathan (you can find info in the Grand Turk forum). We love walking the beach around the light house, the museum, and stopping for drinks on the deck at the Bohio!!

At first I didn't think I would like all the sea days, but it turned out to be just perfect. Can't wait to do this one again!!!!

I, too, am happy to see this thread. We're booked on this itinerary next year. DH has been wanting to do an itinerary with Curacao for a couple of years and I really have no idea what we'll plan.

Anyone that wants to continue with the suggestions, I'm all ears:) We are pretty much beach and snorkel people, not so much into tours. The last one we had was pretty much a disaster and DH looks at me with stink eye if I bring up taking another.

Sonicbuffalo, I hope you come back and tell us what you enjoyed!

Enjoy your cruise.

Thanks! I've heard similiar stories about the "taxi gate police" in La Romana. Appreciate your input. :)

Someone tell me more about Dreams in La Romana.... did you have to prebook?? I found their website and it looks very nice.... it's totally all inclusive? How much was a day pass? The snorkeling offshore, water visibility? Chairs included on the beach?

How far from the port and how much for a taxi ride??

Thanks guys.... soo many questions, so little information about it. LOL I can find everything ever on Nachi Cocum for our December cruise, but this is an entirely different ball game!

Yeah, it's tough to find much info about this itinerary.

We are booked at Dreams for February so I can't tell you first hand about the resort but I can answer a few of your questions.

Yes, you do need to prebook. Send an e-mail to the resort to ask about availability. We are apying $60 per person for an All-Inclusive day pass. We will have access to the entire resort are including the beach, pools, chairs and non-motorized watersports. All drinks and food included in the price.

I have heard that the ride is about half an hour and costs $40.00 for a van (up to 4 pax) each way.

We've heard nothing but great things about it.

Grand Turk: Snorkeling with Blue Water Divers was a great time! They dropped us off at Jack's Shack, we stayed there for a while before walking back to the ship. It was a great time...

Great thread. Thanks! Doing this itinerary in September on Freedom and getting some good info here...

Loved this itinerary. Did it back in April and had a great time. All tours I set up private to save money for the group that was with me.   Grand Turk Jacks Shack Curacao, Irie tours Aruba We alway use Kuku Kunkoo.

So happy to hear someone else's experience with Seavis Tours! We have them booked for January. How long was the cab ride from port to Bayahibe? Also, did you take speedboats or catamaran? How was the lunch and drinks...safe to eat and drink I hope?? Thanks in advance for your input!

Embark from Florida: A Gateway to Caribbean Wonders & Beyond

Cruises from Port Canaveral to Grand Turk

Grand Turk, the capital island of the Turks and Caicos archipelago, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. As a matter of fact, you can easily get there by taking one of the cruises that depart out of Port Canaveral (Orlando) .

Port Canaveral welcomes many cruise ships all year, offering a wide range of itineraries to Grand Turk. Some of the world’s most innovative cruise lines call one of the five cruise terminals in Port Canaveral home. These include Carnival Cruise Line , Disney Cruise Line , MSC Cruises , Norwegian Cruise Line , and Royal Caribbean , offering many different routes to Grand Turk. A cruise from Port Canaveral (Orlando) is one of the most popular ways to see this region of the world.

But Florida’s mid-Atlantic Coast and Orlando City are both worthwhile to explore before or after a cruise. Port Canaveral is only a 45-minute drive from Orlando International Airport and all of the attractions in the Orlando area. Its great position allows visitors to enjoy the wonders and magic of the “Theme Park Capital of the World.” There, you can enjoy open-air activities at Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, and Legoland, among other attractions. And then there is also the Kennedy Space Center, offering tourists a glimpse into the world of space and technology.

If you want to unwind before or after your cruise to Grand Turk, Orlando and its surrounding areas are ideal.

Weekend Rundown: Here's the biggest news you missed this weekend

U.S. tourist faces 12 years in prison after taking ammunition to Turks and Caicos

An Oklahoma man faces up to 12 years in prison on a Caribbean island after customs officials found ammunition in his luggage.

Ryan Watson traveled to Turks and Caicos with his wife, Valerie, to celebrate his 40th birthday on April 7. They went with two friends who had also turned 40.

The vacation came to an abrupt end when airport staff members found a zip-close bag containing bullets in the couple's carry-on luggage. Watson said it was hunting ammunition he had accidentally brought with him — but under a strict law in Turks and Caicos, a court may still impose a mandatory 12-year sentence.

"They were hunting ammunition rounds that I use for whitetail deer," Watson told NBC Boston in an interview conducted last week that aired after their first court appearance Tuesday.

"I recognized them, and I thought, 'Oh, man, what a bonehead mistake that I had no idea that those were in there,'" he said.

The couple were arrested and charged with possession of ammunition. Authorities seized their passports and explained the penalties they faced.

Valerie Watson said in the interview: "When I heard that, I immediately was terrified, because I was like we can't both be in prison for 12 years. We have kids at home, and this is such an innocent mistake."

The charges against her were dropped, and she returned home to Oklahoma City on Tuesday after the court hearing to be reunited with her two young children.

"Our goal is to get Ryan home, because we can’t be a family without Dad," she said.

The couple also spoke about the financial burden of a much longer-than-planned trip. "This is something that we may never recover from," Ryan Watson said.

The U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas issued a warning to travelers in September about a law that strongly prohibits possession of firearms or ammunition in Turks and Caicos, an overseas British territory southeast of the Bahamas that is a popular vacation spot.

It said: "We wish to remind all travelers that declaring a weapon in your luggage with an airline carrier does not grant permission to bring the weapon into TCI [Turks and Caicos Islands] and will result in your arrest."

The embassy added: "If you bring a firearm or ammunition into TCI, we will not be able to secure your release from custody."

The embassy and the government in Turks and Caicos did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The same thing happened to another American, Bryan Hagerich, of Pennsylvania, who was arrested after ammunition was found in his luggage before he tried to board a flight out of Turks and Caicos in February. He said he accidentally left it in his bag.

Hagerich was on a family vacation with his wife and two young children but has now been in the country for 70 days. He spent eight days in prison before he posted bail.

"It’s incredibly scary. You know, you just don’t know what the next day may bring — you know, what path this may take," Hagerich told NBC Boston.

"You know, it’s certainly a lot different than packing your bags and going away with your family for a few days. It’s been the worst 70 days of my life," he said.

Hagerich, once a professional baseball player, was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the MLB 2007 June amateur draft from the University of Delaware.

His case goes to trial May 3.
