Exclusive: DAY6 Kicks Off Their "Youth" North American Tour With Amazing Performances And Energy, As Well As Some Wise Words For Fans

DAY6 opened their North American “Youth” tour with an incredible concert!

The North American leg of DAY6’s first world tour began on November 9 in downtown Toronto at the city’s famed Roy Thomson Hall. From beginning to end, both the band and their fans My Day filled the venue with their impressive energy, and the guys commented several times throughout the night on how wowed they were by their fans in Toronto.

In return, My Day was treated to a night full of stellar performances — with everything from DAY6’s earlier songs such as “Congratulations” and “Letting Go” to many of the tracks off their 2018 mini album “Shoot Me: Youth Part 1,” as well as a showcase of fan-favorites from their 2017 “Every Day6” monthly project and more.

Here are some of our favorite moments from the concert!

Young K’s homecoming

The concert marked Young K’s returned to Toronto, where he studied for five years. Considering it was a special moment for his bandmate, Jae relented on his usual insistence that Young K be called by his English name Brian, and encouraged fans to cheer his stage name “Young K” instead.

Young K shared that the night was particularly special for him as they were performing at Roy Thomson Hall. “When I used to study here, I watched some shows here,” he said. “But back then, I didn’t even think about being on the stage. I didn’t know. I did it!”

The guys having fun while showcasing their talents

The night was jam-packed with great moments where it was clear the members were having a blast while thrilling their fans with their musical talents. For example, Jae cracking himself up with a particularly fun ad lib.

Wonpil also shared that he had something he wanted to do, and played “I’m Serious” on the piano while My Day sang along, creating a beautiful moment.

Explaining the meaning of “Youth”

During the show, Young K shared some wisdom with fans and an encouraging message about the importance of believing in yourself and learning from failure, rather than letting it defeat you.

He explained that when he feels tired or down, he looks back on memories of the fun times that he had in Toronto. “I think to myself, ‘You had fun before, but those times got you to this place and all the things you’re going through right now are going to make you a better person in the future,” he said. “I always tell myself to endure it, ‘Go through with it, you can do this, believe in yourself.'”

He said to fans, “I really want you to believe in your youth,” and encouraged everyone to think of “youth” as not something that only young people have.

“I think you’ve lost youth when you lose that passion in your life, when you lose yourself,” he explained. “So I want you guys to actually believe in yourself. And whatever you want to do, try it, go with it, and taste that failure. You can succeed, that’s great, but there’s always failure. I know, it hurts, but that’s going to make you guys stronger. Because that’s not going to be the end. If you guys believe in yourself, that’s not the end. There’s more to it. So you guys learn from it, and I want you to be happy at the end.”

My Day’s phenomenal energy

The group praised the crowd on what Jae described as their “phenomenal” energy throughout the night. My Day also got to show off their own talents and love for DAY6 and their music during the group’s performance of their debut track “Congratulations,” leading to an unforgettable moment as the fans carried the verse all on their own.

They let the crowd sing and it was so magical #DAY6youthinTOR pic.twitter.com/QxsmHTJrEV — jess moved (@dkyungsoz) November 10, 2018

The fan chants were also off the charts throughout the night, especially during songs like “I Wait.”

The members were sure to promise that they’ll be back in Toronto. Wonpil also shared his hope that the next time the group comes back, he’ll have learned more English and be able to joke with the fans.

Sungjin promised, “If you keep waiting, we’ll keep coming.” We’ll look forward to their return!

Day6 Successfully Wraps Up Encore Concerts For 1st World Tour

As day6 closed another era, fans should expect new days (and music) ahead.

South Korean rock band Day6 has officially wrapped up their DAY6 1ST WORLD TOUR ‘Youth’  with two successful encore concerts in Seoul.

Day6

Over 9,000 fans went to witness the group’s finale concerts held on March 30 and 31 at the SK Handball Arena in Seoul’s Olympic Park. The recently concluded concerts marked Day6’s largest-scale domestic concerts since debut.

Formed by JYP Entertainment, the K-Pop quintet consists of members Jae, SungJin, Young K, WonPil, and DoWoon.

The boy band thrilled their fans as they rocked the stage with their amazing line-up of songs. Starting from tracks “Better Better,” to “Pour,” “Somebody Need,” “Shoot Me,” and “Sing Me,” Day6 naturally created a unique synergy together with the crowd.

Additionally, each of the members hyped fans as they showcased respective charms in their solo stages. Partnered with their smooth vocals, Jae and leader SungJin appealed with their skills in guitar. Young K also showed off the bass groove while Wonpil amazed fans as he played the keyboard. Moreover, the group’s maknae DoWoon displayed pump charisma with his drumming.

With the concert stretching for about three hours, the group also revealed their playful sides.  Fans received a wonderful encore gift as the members gamely accepted the penalty of wearing colorful wigs.

[RECAP] DAY6 Wraps Up Successful ‘YOUTH’ Tour in Los Angeles

K-Pop Concerts

On Sunday, November 18, DAY6 wrapped up their DAY6 1st World Tour ‘Youth’ in North America at The Novo in Los Angeles, CA. Presented by SubKulture Entertainment and JYP Entertainment, the tour marks the band’s second LA appearance following their successful Live & Meet stop in La Mirada, CA. The five member pop-rock band ( Jae , Sungjin , Dowoon , Young K , and Wonpil ) debuted in 2015 and have pumped out nonstop music since, the majority of which were contributed to by their 2017 promotion project, Every DAY6.

As the lights dimmed, the band members appeared and took their respective spots on the stage. The show kicked off with “ I Smile ,” the beloved lead single off of DAY6’s first full-length studio album, Sunrise . The opening song was warmly received by My Days, DAY6’s fanclub,  who sang along in unison. The band quickly followed suit with “ First Time ” and pop-centric “ Better Better ” before quickly giving their formal introductions.

Jae, an LA native himself, received the most crowd noise as many anticipated his “homecoming.” “ We came last year and we’ve been planning ,” he started. “ We’ve been thinking [about] how we’re gonna get a better show than last year in LA .” The quintet’s strong work ethic and determination had definitely paid off as the last show drew in hundreds of My Days to the packed venue who were treated with a whopping 26-song setlist! The night moved by fairly quickly as DAY6 knocked out fifteen songs within the first hour, allowing only a few minutes to breathe, rehydrate, and talk to the audience.

DAY6’s concert boasted a vast array of songs that showcased the group’s versatility and ability to take on different genres. Living up to the tour name, “Youth,”  the band performed “ Whatever! ” and “ Dance Dance ,” both anthems about letting youthful worries go and just having fun while living in the moment. Another set took on a more melancholic mood as they performed angsty songs like rock-alternative bop “ I Wait ” and “ How Can I Say ” that were juxtaposed by uplifting pieces like “ Like That Sun” and “ Be Lazy .” “ Warning ” boasted a grungy rock theme while “ What Can I Do ” gave off a nostalgic 70’s punk-rock vibe and “ Talking To ” emitted an indie rock tune that sounded like it could be part of an Urban Outfitter’s playlist.

From the moment DAY6 took to the stage, My Days were up on their feet, shaking their DAY6 light bands, and singing along with as much passion as the boys themselves. Their efforts did not go unnoticed. Before jumping into the song, Jae told the crowd that he would NOT be singing his parts in the next song. Instead, he asked My Days to sing them in his place. The opening chords to “ I Need Somebody ” began and the crowd sang the opening line in one voice, touching the members. As the song progressed, the members’ voices noticeably became fuller and more emotional as they belted out their hearts. Another highlight of the night included the rock-heavy “ Shoot Me, ” the title track from the band’s latest EP Shoot Me: Youth Part 1 . The audience loudly fanchanted “ Bang Bang! ” and the entire balcony was shaking beneath the jumping and headbanging crowd. The five-piece band also took the crowd way back to the song that catapulted their careers – “ Congratulations .”

Finally, DAY6 was able to take a well-deserved break while a VCR kept the audience entertained as they watched Jae, Wonpil, Sungjin, Young K, and Dowoon assign each other roles and attempt to film their own homemade music video. DAY6 then returned to the stage and Jae introduced the first song in the set, “ This next song is very dear to us. If you guys are gonna sing, now’s the time. ” The track was “ Letting Go ” from their second EP Daydream . The bittersweet rock ballad meant a lot to the members as it was the first song they promoted following the departure of their former bandmate, Junhyeok, from the group.

day6 youth tour setlist

As the night came to an end, each member gave thoughtful last words reflecting on their experience from the show. Wonpil shared that he felt that he “had to do a really good job” and was amazed at how well the audience sang along to their songs. “ When you guys were singing and dancing along, it made me really happy. I will never forget this moment .”

Young K asked the crowd to hold up the tour stop’s fan support banners that read “You Are My Youth” and expressed his wholehearted gratitude.

“ Not a lot of people in this world are gonna have this kind of experience when they live in their youth…I think it’s such an honor and I feel so happy to have this chapter of my life with you guys …  It’s a great honor to have us in your youth. So I hope to let our youth continue with happiness until the end .” –  Young K

Dowoon started off with thanking the fan’s for their nonstop energy. “ Thank you for being so energetic form the start to the end, even though this isn’t the end yet ,” he teased. He cutely blanked out on how to say a phrase in English and asked the tour interpreter for assistance to say “ You guys are My Day~. ”

day6 youth tour setlist

“ We are very lucky guy[s] ,” Sungjin started in English (much to the crowd’s delight) before continue in Korean, “ I’m so happy to have met you guys and lets have fun in our performances. ”

Jae mentioned that he actually becomes quite nervous whenever he’s here performing on his “homeground.”  “ I feel like I gotta REPRESENT!” he said, fanning the audience’s LA pride . “ I think today was one of those days or one of those moments where I realize how fortunate I was to have so many people that were backing me . ”  He went on to say that the show was a “mentally, self touching moment” for him. Usually his lips and feet would start shaking when he was extremely nervous. But today, Sungjin had comforted him by going over to Jae and egging him on during their sets. “ That’s what you call brothers, man! Real support system up in here. ” Jae professed, causing the crowd to holler in affirmation.

To close off the night, the band members dutifully stuck to the stage as they performed “I Wish ,” but once they transitioned into the feel-good, leave-your-worries-behind anthem of “Freely,” the crowd and the members went nuts. Before the song had even ended, Jae jumped offstage and interacted with the fans in the pit before disappearing backstage. The band continued to their next song “ Sing Me ” and Jae reappeared up in the balcony section, causing My Days in those seats to go crazy. He weaved his way across the balcony, went up an aisle, and jammed hard with the lucky fans.

“Sing Me” had been the last song on the setlist for the tour, but LA My Days were in for a special treat. While on the balcony Jae talked to his bandmates and they decided to add one more song that perfectly summed up everyone’s emotions. “ Feel Good” began and everyone went wild. While Jae returned to the stage, Wonpil, Dowoon, and Sungjin followed suit and interacted with the fans in the pit while Young K followed Jae’s steps and went up to the balcony section. The night wrapped up in high spirits with DAY6 and My Days singing and dancing together.
