Declan was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was super fun and hyped and everyone was so pumped!! He is RADICAL live and super energetic! It was definitely the best and most fun concert I have ever been to and meaningful because we all got to share in a special moment with Declan and his band when they played one of their new, unreleased songs for us!! ❤ Absolutely marvelous experience, you should totally go see him if you can, he is SO fun!!!!

Seeing Declan live was an EXPERIENCE. He’s so talented and his songs are so fun to dance and sing along to. I also loved how small the venue was because it was an intimate show, my favorite types of shows. Declan is also the sweetest + he met people after the show. His opening act, Chappell Roan was the cutest and she lit up with happiness every time we would cheer her on. Both her and Declan are so talented and deserve more recognition. If you have the chance to see Declan, do it!! It’s such a nice environment and small shows like this don’t happen often, especially with growing artists.

I went to Declan's concert at the KOKO.

It was great. Music was great, support was great, everything was great... apart from one thing.

Declan or anyone else couldn't have really changed this but I felt like the crowd wasn't as welcoming as the crowds from oter concerts I have been to. The vibe from some people (not everyone some were actually really nice)was a bit unfriendly. Sometimes I felt really unwelcome. The crowd, especially on the floor, was not great. It's hard to explain. But I think it was just this concert. I have seen other videos of Declan on this tour and people seemed really nice so I guess it was just at this one. I also talked to my frends who went with me and they didn't agree with me on this, so it also might just be me.

But Declan was amazing. Loved it. Support band, Feet was great too. I've started listening to their music too.

Overall, great concert. would go again.

McKenna recently announced his third album ‘What Happened To The Beach?’ . A press release described the LP as “an album that revels in both space and atmosphere,” with the singer explaining that the tracks are much looser.

‘What Happened To The Beach?’ is set for release on February 9 via his own label, Tomplicated Records. Pre-order the album  here .

Along with the announcement of the album, he also shared a new single titled ‘Nothing Works’. Speaking of the track in a press release, the singer shared: “’Nothing Works’ came out of the frustration of feeling boxed in and tied to expectation, but it is a euphoric tune, at its core it’s a celebration of being true to yourself.”

The LP will follow 2020’s ‘Zeros’. In a f our-star review of the album , NME ‘s Rhian Daly shared: “This record is full of ideas and never fully settles on one genre for long; it hops from finger-picked and folky (‘Emily’) to stomping space-rock (‘Daniel, You’re Still A Child’). Sometimes it does so in one song – as when ‘Eventually, Darling’ opens it sounds like it about to channel the most fringe-worthy emo, but instead turn into a shimmering piece of experimental pop.”

She continued: “The 21-year-old might be trying to shake off any unwieldy labels from critics this time around, but he’s doing so in electric, entertaining and thought-provoking form. Climb aboard McKenna’s space shuttle, and let him transport you to a place where dancing and getting deep are equally encouraged.”

April 5, 2024

Declan McKenna has announced a UK headline tour for 2024 in support of his forthcoming album, ‘What Happened To The Beach?’.

The album - which is set for release on February 9, 2024 - has so far been preceded by two tracks: ‘Sympathy’ and ‘Nothing Works’.

Shooting to fame in 2015 with his viral indie hit, ‘Brazil’, McKenna’s third album will revel in space and atmosphere, contrasting to his last two contemporary glam-rock indie releases.

The tour celebrates a new era for Declan McKenna, and will see him playing his biggest headline show to date at Alexandra Palace, London.

Tickets are available here from 9am today (October 13).

The Lathums - Wigan Monaco, Wigan

December 16, 2023

Indie four-piece The Lathums have announced a tour for this December, including a hometown show at Wigan Monaco.

The announcement follows recent news that they will be supporting Keane on the UK leg of their 2024 tour, as well as the release of their new single, ‘Thoughts of a Child’, late last month.

The acoustic, anthemic track comes with a music video made up of clips from their time supporting Louis Tomlinson on tour across Europe.

Tickets go on sale here at 10am today (October 13).

Marika Hackman - Gorilla, Manchester

March 14, 2024

declan mckenna uk tour 2023

Enigmatic singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Marika Hackman has unveiled details of her fourth studio album ‘Big Sigh’ - releasing on January 12 - alongside the announcement of a UK tour next March with a show at Manchester’s Gorilla.

Leaving the carnal days of her 20s behind, the new album is less of a photo-real documentation of the moment, but more like an artist peering through a gap in a door to reassess her former life. Making her most honest album and brave album yet, it untangles her internal universe and explores complex melodies.

Tickets are available here from 10am today (October 16).

Stornoway - O2 Ritz, Manchester

October 28, 2023

declan mckenna uk tour 2023

After returning with the BBC Music Favourite, ‘Trouble with the Green’, Stornoway continues to push their sound into exciting directions as they team up with the rising Chinese artist Yja Tu for their most recent release of Björks ‘It’s Not Up to You’.

The song features on the band’s latest release and first album in eight years, ‘Dig The Mountain!’ – out now.

CMAT - O2 Ritz, Manchester

November 23, 2023

declan mckenna uk tour 2023

CMAT is heading out on tour next month, following the release of her new album ‘CrazyMad, For Me’.

The 12-track album is an abstract break-up album about what happens when you are still angry about something that happened 10 years ago. It takes popstar CMAT through a reinvention of what came before; this is the grand statement of an ambitious mature sound, a textured sonic feel and details of a complex emotional and metaphorical landscape.

Tickets are on sale here.

Roachford - O2 Ritz, Manchester

December 7, 2023

declan mckenna uk tour 2023

Declan McKenna, Alexandra Palace, review: the missing link between Captain Beefheart and ABBA

Declan McKenna is a maverick talent making misshapen anthems for Generation Alpha – a breath of fresh air amongst today’s uniform pop

Pop weirdo: Declan McKenna

Declan McKenna is a bit of a weirdo, and I mean that as a compliment. He’s a fresh-faced pop freak, a scrawny 25-year-old in a loud shirt who seems to assemble songs back to front and inside out, slapping together ill-fitting parts with wonky tunings and twitchy rhythms.

A typically untypical McKenna song may bolt a heavy metal chorus onto a lo-fi lullaby with a funkadelic EDM undercarriage, all adorned with abstractly audacious lyrics addressing life in Generation Alpha. Then somehow (and I am still not sure how) the whole thing emerges as an alternative art-pop banger that can get thousands of fans waving their hands in the air and singing along at the top of their voices.

“Ally Pally, let’s party,” he shouted, launching into another song that sounded like the party might be taking place down a gravity well in deep space. McKenna strikes me as a missing link between Captain Beefheart and ABBA, musical entities who barely belong in the same record collection let alone on the same stage. Yet here he was, at London’s cavernous Alexandra Palace, playing what he declared was the biggest show of his career to an adoring audience who greeted every misshapen, distorted, and at times borderline cacophonic anthem as if it was a solid gold chartbuster.

Although only 25, McKenna has already been knocking about for nine years and has three distinctly oddball albums to his credit. He was 16 when he won Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent competition in 2015. His debut single, Brazil, is surely the only song about corruption in football to have been streamed over half a billion times on Spotify. Along with an even rowdier political anthem, British Bombs (which sounds like a souped-up Specials playing ska on Mars) it briefly saw the clever young lyricist being hailed as a “voice of a generation”, but he’s turned into something much odder than that. While anthemic choruses frequently erupt in the midst of a warped mish-mash of sounds and rhythms, they often seem to be pointing in an opposite direction to the rest of the song.

McKenna gleefully mocked his own reputation on anti-protest protest anthem Nothing Works, roaring: “When I sing the song and you didn’t like the verse / I try to fix myself but nothing works.” Nevertheless, something is clearly working, judging by the sense of fun and joy expressed by an audience intimately familiar with every twist of his quirky oeuvre.

McKenna plays guitar and keyboards through various effects, backed by a virtuosic five-piece band given to leaping up and down excitedly with every unexpected switch of tempo and dynamics. It brings to mind a particularly twitchy prog-rock outfit playing bent-out-of-shape Britpop, perhaps King Crimson crossed with Pulp would be a vintage reference point, or Alt J interpreting Arctic Monkeys for younger listeners.

It is post-everything-pop for streaming kids who have been raised in an online melting pot with few musical boundaries. In an often rather bland and uniform chart environment that has been accused of encouraging sonic conformity, it is immensely heartening to see a young audience so enamoured of a young artist blazing such a distinctively individualistic musical trail. There is hope for the weirdos yet.
