Course: Travel and Tourism Level 3

Study level.

Lowestoft Campus

One Year / Two Years

"I have worked for the independent agency, Co-operative Travel, for over 21 years now and have been privileged during that time to have arranged student trips for the East Coast College Travel and Tourism students, mostly recently a visit to Zante. In addition, I have also enjoyed taking time to talk to the Travel and Tourism students at the college about being a travel agent and all that entails, along with talking about the ‘Co-operative Difference’ principles which set us apart from our competitors on the high street. It’s an honour for myself, as a representative for the Co-operative society, to be involved with the college and working together with them supporting students to understand the travel and tourism industry."

Samantha Fordham

Assistant Branch Manager, Co-operative Travel

Whether you want to work as a resort representative, travel consultant or airline cabin crew, our courses will help you to gain the skills to move into this ever-growing industry.

With excellent links to industry specialists and a mock travel agency and aircraft cabin for your training, you will get a realistic idea of what it’s like to work in a variety of roles. We have established connections with ATPI Business Travel Agency, Co-Operative Travel, Norwich Aviation Academy and SaxonAir, as well as Titan Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Skypeople.

You will enjoy masterclasses and overseas visits to develop your resort and tour guide skills and will be assessed through simulations and on work placement. You will learn essential customer service skills and there will be an opportunity for you to apply for internships in Florida after completing your course.

You will have the unique opportunity to learn Amadeus – a global distribution system used by airlines, tour operators and travel providers all over the world. Previous students also benefited from two weeks in Vietnam where they experienced a life-changing volunteer project while studying tourism in South East Asia

Why study with us:

  • You will complete festival volunteering, a trip to the World Travel Market in London and a three-night European visit to enhance your learning and first-hand experience of travel.
  • We have a large range of guest speakers from Hays Travel, ATPI, Co-op Travel, former travel representatives and travel counsellors, as well as visits to our employer partners such as ATPI head office and local holiday parks.
  • We have fantastic industry links and access to international commercial airline emergency simulators.

Requirements

You will need to have achieved and passed a travel and tourism qualification at school, and/or have a good standard of English and maths. Ideally grade 4 and above in English and maths or working towards.

Full British or European passport will be required for oversea trips. (Please note that trips are not mandatory but encouraged).

The course is assessed by a range of methods including:

  • Presentations
  • Case studies
  • Online assessments
  • Portfolio of work
