OUR SUBSIDIARY

Sabah Air Aviation (SAA), formerly known as Penerbangan Sabah, is one of the oldest General Aviation Companies in Malaysia, having commenced its operation with a fleet of three Aerospatiale Allouette helicopters, two Australian Nomad N-22B, one Bell 206 Jet Ranger II and one Bell 212 helicopters. The company was registered in 1975 as a State Government Agency under the purview of the Ministry of Finance (MOF), with its headquarters located in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It was originally formed to provide air transport services to the people of Sabah and to areas not frequented by the national airline, MAS.

MEDEVAC & FDS In cooperation with the Ministry of Health, SAA pioneered in both MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation) and FDS (Flying Doctor Service) services since its early establishment. This was instrumental in helping tens of thousands of people within the interiors of Sabah receive timely medical attention from the rural areas, for many years.

OIL RIG SUPPORT In 1977, SAA was also the pioneer in providing air transport services to oil rig companies predominantly in Malaysia and Philippines. The company has successfully provided this service to many industry players, both foreign (Interport Resources Inc, Amoco Philippines Petroleum Co, TOTAL Exploration, St. Joe Petroleum) and domestic (EMPI, BP Cargali, Petronas Cargali, and OPIC). The off-shore business of SAA is presently undertaken by its sister company, SAZMA Aviation, to provide passenger transportation services to the oil rigs situated around the State of Sabah’s waters.

SAA was one of the very first, and probably the only surviving first generation Air Charter Service Company in Malaysia, still in existence today; growing over the years in a highly competitive environment. Our air transport services have grown since, allowing us to enter different markets, and accommodate for both Malaysians and non-Malaysians. And as a result, SAA emerged as one of the leading General Aviation (GA) companies in Malaysia.

Sabah Air Aviation Sdn. Bhd. has a CAAM approved Part-145 certification. Granted with this certification, SAA offers the following aircraft maintenance services:

SAA is also one of the few companies that offers a CAAM approved 3rd party Ground-handling.

Following the latest Civil Aviation Regulations 2016 (CAR 2016) in compliance with the requirement of Part M Subpart G, SAA introduces Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) that has also been approved by CAAM, into the company. This new system implemented, provides safe operation practises for the management of “continuing airworthiness” in aircraft maintenances, and to ensure the safety of clients using our services.

Full advance payment as per the quotation is required before flight. Any differences shall be reconciled immediately after the flight

Sabah Air Aviation Sdn Bhd (SAA) shall not be responsible should aircraft is not allowed to operate in a controlled zone or any other airspace which is not approve by any relevant authorities for flying activities

For aerial photography and filming, client is required to apply aerial permit and the approval should submit to Sabah Air Aviation Sdn Bhd (SAA) before any flights can take place

All flights as per the requested route are subject to Air Traffic Control Clearance

This flight is subject to day light VFR (Visual Flight Rules) operation only

Flying into any military mend air field, will required special permit / clearance, therefore a minimum of three (3) working days is required for the application of such permit / clearance

The above is our estimated flight time only. Charges will be based on actual time flown. Flying time is calculated from engine ‘ON’ to engine ‘OFF’. The charge time will be charged to the nearest five (5) minutes

Flight time for non-accomplished flight or partially carried flight due to weather or any other reasons will also be charged

Flight will be subject to aircraft availability, weather condition, payload limitation, prior booking and flight confirmation

In the event of bad weather or unforeseen circumstances that the aircraft has to stay overnight outside base station i.e Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Subang and Ipoh, all the relevant charges as quoted is applicable

Any task involving such as Power Line / Gas Pipeline Inspection / Operation of Orang Utan Nest Counting / Helicopter LIDAR Survey / Prolonged operations in the helicopter “Dead man’s Curve” will be liable for hourly hazard charges as quoted

A pilot and any engineering crew on board engaged in a ferry flight using single engine helicopter crossing the sea from East to West Malaysia or vice versa will be liable for each round trip hazard charges as quoted

Any 3rd party services requested by the client to facilitate the accomplishment of the flight will be charged at cost plus 15% of the administration fee

A cancellation within 48 hours of a firm booking is subject to a cancellation fee equivalent to one hour flying time unless the cancellation is due to unavoidable circumstances such as weather or is subject to prior arrangement

To comply with CAAM requirement on aircrew flight and duty time limitations, one day off / rest will be given to the pilot per every week. Daily duty hours are 10 hours, while daily flying hours is 7 hours. If charterer requires to maximize the operation continually for the period of 1 week, a replacement pilot can be arranged subject to availability, and all travelling, transportation and accommodation will be borne by charterer

All flights are subject to 6% SST tax

AERIAL FILMING, PHOTOGRAPHY & MAPPING

Flying doctor service (fds), vvip transfer, ground handling, search & rescue mission (sar), geophysical & seismic services, aerial sightseeing & tour packages, powerline work, cargo & passenger transportation.

Sabah Air’s pilot's have been trained to carry precision task involving equipment to remote places with difficult terrain.

Our fixed wing and helicopters are modified to accommodate various kinds of equipments for aerial mapping, filming and photography.

1975 - Commenced Flying Doctor Service (FDS) operation

1978 - Formed collaboration with Ministry of Health (MOH) to service villages in West Coast of Sabah

1980 - Commenced its Flying Doctor Service operation for villages in East Coast of Sabah

SAA services also include VIP and Executive travelling with Sabah and in Peninsular Malaysia.

SAA has in house ground handling capability. The company has recently been approved by Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) of Malaysia to carry 3rd party ground handling.

Sabah Air’s provides search and rescue (SAR) services of its helicopter services in most of the Malaysian region and its neighbouring countries.

SAA services used by Medical Department of Sabah to transfer patients from village to nearest hospital.

SAA's King Air Beechcraft 200 and Bell 206 helicopter are being used to provide geophysical techniques include resistivity, seismic, reflection ground penetrating radar and magnetic images.

Many of Sabah and KL’s natural and manmade tourist sites can best be appreciated from the air using helicopters. The Mount Kinabalu and KL skyline tours are enjoying increasing popularity. Sightseeing flights, heli-picnics and other air transfers can be tailor made according to the needs of our guests.

SAA has the capability to provide power line inspection using its helicopter

The company services have on numerous occasion being used to transfer goods to the remote area of Sabah.

SAFETY & QUALITY

The company's Safety Management System (SMS) & Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) is approved by Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) mandated by qualified trained personnel. SAA aircraft are being maintained under Part 145 approved. It has also recently being approved as a CAMO by CAAM.

Primate living in the wetlands is the Proboscis Monkey, an unforgettable sight with its huge dangling nose and pot belly. Groups of these primates, found only in Borneo, can be seen along the Kinabatangan River and in the Klias Wetlands, less than 2 hours from Kota Kinabalu

Find your own paradise of white sandy beaches backed by shady trees, then go snorkelling over coral reefs, ride a banana boat, water-ski. Sandy beaches are strung along Sabah's west coast. KOTA KINABALU (April 27): The Sabah Tourism Board (STB) is planning an elephant corridor project near Kinabatangan.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said this project would cost the government close to nothing since it is to be sponsored by a man from Japan who wants to invest in the project without asking for a single cent – all because of his love for nature and wildlife.

She said this man wants to put his money in this elephant corridor project because he believes in investment for the preservation of wildlife and nature.

“This person is not an investor but rather, a lover of wildlife, and he is sponsporing this project out of his own pocket.

“We are very happy if we can work together, but there needs to be a sitdown on the matter.

“My ministry through STB is currently connecting with him and his team – maybe we will fly to Japan to meet them,” she said.

Liew hopes this project can take off as it not only adds a new tourism spot for the tour and travel industry here but would also be a new and interesting attraction to be included in travel itineraries.

In addition, Liew said it would also protect elephants in the area as there have been cases of the animals dying in traps and it would also help reduce human-wildlife conflict there, especially in the plantation areas.

“We welcome any party, local or international, that are interested to collaborate with us in the preservation of wildlife.

“We will engage and promote them to also benefit Sabahans as there are a number of chalets along the Kinabtangan river that are ready for foreigners to stay at,” she said when officiating the Sabah Matta Fair at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Saturday.

Liew disclosed that Sabah has recorded 532,227 international and domestic tourists or RM1.2 billion in tourism receipts from January to February this year.

She said this augurs well with the state’s target of 2.8 million visitors this year, which she believes it can achieve, adding that the ultimate goal is three million arrivals by December this year.

“I would like to underscore the immense potential of community-based tourism (CoBT). We are committed to nurturing this sector across the state to ensure that even our rural communities can reap the economic benefits and opportunities it offers. The Sabah Tourism Board is actively planning a branding initiative for CoBT with a promise to elevate it to new heights.

“In light of this, I urge all stakeholders to collaborate with my ministry for the advancement of our industry. We eagerly anticipate partnering with airlines, hotels, tour operators and all related industry players to develop value-added packages that will further enrich the visitor experience,” she said.

On a separate note, the minister said the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair, Sabah Chapter, which will take place from April 26 to 28 at SICC, has firmly entrenched itself as one of Sabah’s annual highlights.

Liew said she is genuinely thrilled to witness how this fair consistently empowers the local community by offering unbeatable deals on airfares, hotel accommodations and travel packages.

“The promotion of outbound tours promises to further catalyse Sabah’s tourism growth, fostering a two-way flow of tourists and enhancing air connectivity.

“I encourage Matta Sabah to continue organising programmes and events that will further enhance and invigorate the tourism sector,” she said.

Meanwhile, Matta Sabah chairwoman Christina Wahida Kong announced that SICC will be the official venue of the Sabah Matta Fair for the following years, and this year saw the largest participation so far with 90 booths featured showcasing offerings of around 40 exhibitors at the venue.

She said during the three-day fair, they anticipate a high visitor turnout, with the expected sales boom from the upcoming mid-year school holidays extending to the year-end holidays.

“This year we are proud to have CoBT participation from several districts showcasing autentic countryside experiences, encouraging visitors to explore nature and local culture firsthand.

“As for domestic travel, destinations such as Sarawak, Penang and Johor are poised to be top favorites among travelers, while local inbound operators from Lahad Datu, Tawau and Tenom are primed to receive an entusiastic response.

“For international adventurers, destinations ranging from Japan, China, South Korea and Thailand, to exciting countries in Europe await exploration.

“Additionally, participations for exclusive packages cater to those seeking spiritual journeys to Jordan, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage and umrah,” she said.

She said travel enthusiasts can look forward to unbeatable deals on airfare tickets, holiday packages and experiences at the Sabah Matta Fair, along with multiple travel perks for their next getaway.

Also present were STB chief executive officer Julinus J Jimit and Consulate-General of Indonesia, Bapak Rafail Walangitan.

KOTA KINABALU: All flights in and out of Sabah have returned to normal after the past few days of erratic schedules due to the eruption of Mount Ruang.

According to a senior official of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, flights started to resume gradually from Friday afternoon.

On April 18, all flights into and out of Sabah and Sarawak were cancelled or delayed following the volcanic eruption in Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Thousands of passengers were stranded, with most of them choosing to wait in airports while those travelling domestically opted to travel by road.

There were a few resumed flights on that night itself, while others recommenced the next day.

Meanwhile, state Health Department director Datuk Dr Asits Sanna said Sabah’s air quality was not terribly affected by the Mount Ruang eruption.

He said after a risk assessment, they found that there is no need to mask up when in public as yet.

However, he urged those with respiratory problems and related illnesses to seek medical attention immediately.“The air pollutant index does not show the air quality is affected.

“The Health Department is also monitoring haze-related illnesses such as breathing problems, asthma and conjunctivitis in some health clinics and sentinel hospitals in the state,” Dr Asits said in a statement yesterday.
