Zero assistance

I am writing to notify a serious disservice from the agency which was responsible to organize our transfers in Hurgada (Egypt). Our flight was 1.5h delayed and once landed at 4am, nobody was there waiting for us. After trying unsuccessfully to reach the local contact number, we contacted the emergency telephone indicated on the travel documents. At our expense (2.99 EUR/min) we reached a sleepy operator located in Spain. After promising to investigate the situation, the operator put us on hold for ~18min. He also ensured that he would have called us back, if the connection was lost. The operator never called back, so we had to contact again the emergency service (other ~4min call) and the same operator picked up the call. The operator, instead of calling us back as he said, was waiting for our call and told us that the local driver left, since our flight was delayed, and didn't offer any alternative solution. The only option proposed was to book a taxi ourselves and invoice the expense afterward. This option resulted unfeasible, since no receipt is issued by local taxi drivers (no card payment was possible and no bill was printed). We were left alone without assistance at 4-5am in a foreign country, where few people speak English and where we had no contacts except from the tour operators. Flight information are available (online and at the airport), so the travel agency and the driver could stay perfectly informed about our delay. We had to contact twice at our expense the customer service, who resulted unhelpful, unwilling to solve the situation and take responsibility for the disservice the operator didn't reach out after assessing the situation as promised, leaving us waiting in line and without offering alternative solutions. We had to take an unsafe drive at our expense. Apart from the additional costs of roughly 115 EUR we had to face, this experience could have gone far worse than already did. Once we came back from holiday, we wrote a complaint email. The reply showed the care they have for customers and the empathy for whom experienced such a situation: "Thank you very much for your email. Please understand that only reimbursement of costs that are proven by receipts are checked. Since you have not submitted a taxi receipt, we cannot investigate your request any further."...as if the money was our main and only concern.

Worst travel agency in germany

-------------DEUTSCH UNTEN------------ One of the worst if not the worst travel agency in Germany! BEWARE! Never choose "For you travel" I booked a trip to Turkey, but didn't know that i need an E-visa, so i missed my flight and also my vacation. When i contacted (For you travel) asking why they didn't inform me, they told me that they informed me at the booking time ( there was a very small button mentioning the visa regulations, but it was very small that i couldn't notice it). What confuses me is that they have sent me a pile of documents, but never mentioned a single word about Turkish visa regulations. Now, when i asked for a refund or to propose a new destination for me, they refused and told me that my money 724€ is gone and there will be no alternative holidays offer. The moment they took my money, i became like a hostage and they did whatever they wanted to me. For instance they changed the return flight twice, when i asked why, they said you agreed on this in the terms and conditions.. they know that most customers don't read the terms and conditions 10 full pages in German ( i didn't read the terms and conditions because i don't speak German). I would like to understand how such a company is still operating in Germany after all these negative feedbacks. Why there's no authority in Germany to either block them or force them to improve their service? After working hard the entire year, now i lost both my money and vacation. When you call them a voice machine will tell you to reach them by email! I have sent them emails, and asked for a phone number in order to talk to them, but they never shared with me their phone number. (Our entire communication was only through email). very bad experience and i wish no one else will experience something similar! ------------------------------------------------- Eines der schlechtesten, wenn nicht sogar das schlechteste Reisebüro in Deutschland! IN ACHT NEHMEN!

NEVER AGAIN

NEVER AGAIN Me and my family (adults and children the total of 23 people) booked our vacation via onlinereisesuche.de with "For you travel" agency from 18.07.2021-01.08.2021 in Side/Antalya-Turkey (hotel Side la grande). When we arrived at the airport Antalya there was a local agency "mts globe" responsable for us, an agent from mts globe told us that our 5 star hotel Side la grande was closed because of the Covid-19 situation, he LIED to us the hotel was opened, we saw that with our own eyes. Mts globe agent told us that they will send us to a better hotel and that we were UPGRATED, again he LIED us, they sent us to a hotel SIDEKUM that it was far worst that what we booked in first place. We stood in hotel SIDEKUM for 4 days AGAINST our will and during this 4 days we wrote many emails to "For you travel" agency, "12-travel" agency, we talked with agents from "Onlinereisesuche", we tryed to phone "For you travel" agency but it was impossible to reach them. Finaly the 4-th day of our stay an agent from "For you travel" agency contacted me and promised me that they will change our hotel. Now we had 2 choices to stay at hotel SIDEKUM or to go to a "better" hotel named "Seher Resort&spa. We accepted to change the hotel and go to hotel Seher Resort wich was also far worst that our first choice but "better" than hotel SIDEKUM. We were the total of 5 familys (only 1 family of 4 people had the chance to go to hotel "Side la grande" wich we all booked in first place). So in other words all 4 agency's (onlinereisesuche; For you travel; 12-travel and mts globe agency) THEY RUINED OUR VACATION that we waited so long and wanted to spent it together in a hotel that we chose. And the last thing but not the least when i came home i talked to an agent from onlinereisesuche and asked him when we will receive the CASH BACK of 100/50 euro? He responded me that during the process of booking i had to mentioned or put into the lines somewhere the cash back wich i ignore how to do that. All this 4 agency's doesn't care at all for their clients.

Never use this For You Travel !!!

We travel twice each year and this trip has been the one we have experienced. 14 days in Turkey in high season it was week 31 and 32, (2 families) with NO service, NO help, NO good communication and the WORST all inclusive we have ever tried. I made an official complaint to For You Travel, with evidence of the communication, but NO compensation at all for our 14 days of terrible holiday. We don't even fell like we had a holiday at all. It is absolutely the first and also the LAST time I will use this For You Travel. Not Happy ! We were several Europeans who unfortunately had a terrible holiday.

Reiserecht: Erneut Urteil gegen For You Travel GmbH

Reiserecht aktuell: Erneut Urteil gegen For You Travel GmbH

Sehr gern wieder mit For you Travel!!

Liebe gar kein Urlaub statt bei For You Travel buchen !

Nie wieder! For You Travel

Sehr gute Erfahrungen

Bitte aufpassen.....

Fazit nie wieder for you travel! Werde meine Unkosten zurück fordern. Nachtrag: am 21.02.24 Habe mein Geld fürs Taxi wieder zurück bekommen innerhalb zwei Tage! Ging sehr schnell, per Mail die Situation beschrieben und alles nachgereicht (Quittung Taxi, e-mails und Telefonie Nachweise vorm abreisen) Daher gibt zwei Sterne obendrauf

Achtung totale Abzocke!

Achtung totale Abzocke!

Frechheit abzocke

Hallo, Ich habe pauschalreise bei SonnenklarTV gebucht reise Anbieter war For You Travel.

Urlaub in Lara Türkei - TOP

TOP ZUFRIEDEN

Entgegen der ganzen Negativen Bewertungen hier, auch mal was positives. Haben relativ spontan gebucht, all inklusive Alanya.

Negative Erfahrungen mit For You Travel

Wir haben letztes Jahr mit For You Travel eine Urlaubsreise vom 09. -23.09.14 ins Nissaki Beach Hotel, Korfu gemacht.

for you travel pleite

Wir waren kurz davor beim For You Travel zu buchen.

Beginner’s guide to travel rewards: How to travel with credit card points and miles

Fortune Recommends™ has partnered with CardRatings for our coverage of credit card products. Fortune Recommends™ and CardRatings may receive a commission from card issuers.

When you read articles about travel rewards, you’re often regaled with tales of how the writer traveled in first class to Asia in a private suite drinking champagne for $5.60. You’re right to read that with skepticism. While using travel rewards, airline miles, and hotel points can allow you to travel well outside of your weight class, it’s well worth it to dig into the details before opening up a wallet-full of credit cards. Here’s how to enjoy the fruits of travel rewards responsibly.

Types of travel credit cards and how they work

Travel rewards credit cards—as opposed to cash-back credit cards or credit cards that don’t earn rewards at all—can generally be divided into the following three categories:

  • Cards that earn flexible points.
  • Cards that earn airline miles.
  • Cards that earn hotel points.

We’ll delve deeper into the specifics of each type of card in the sections below.

Flexible travel credit cards

A credit card that earns flexible travel rewards is not tied to one specific airline or hotel chain. Instead, the points can be transferred to the loyalty programs of the airlines and hotel chains that your card offers as partners. Then, you redeem your points for flights or stays booked directly with the airline or hotel chain.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred ® Card is an example of a popular travel card that earns flexible points. This card comes with more than a dozen transfer partners and points transfer at a 1:1 rate (meaning each point you transfer from your credit card to a partner program nets you one airline mile or hotel point on the other end). Partners include United Airlines, World of Hyatt , and more.

Issuers of flexible travel cards may also provide a portal you can book travel through. For example, cardholders with the Chase Sapphire Preferred have the option of booking flights, hotel stays and more through Chase Travel℠, in which case each Chase Ultimate Rewards point (the rewards currency the card earns) is worth 1.25 cents.

If this is what you’re looking for, a card from our list of best travel credit cards might be a fit for your needs.

Airline-specific credit cards

An airline credit card is tied to a specific airline’s loyalty program, and earns miles you can use to book or upgrade flights with that airline and its partner airlines. For example, consider the United SM Explorer Card . The miles you earn with this card are deposited into your MileagePlus loyalty account, and you can redeem them to book flights on United Airlines or with United’s partners in the Star Alliance.

Cards of this type may offer airline-specific perks—such as free checked bags, priority boarding, an annual companion certificate, and more. If you fly a particular airline regularly, you could potentially save hundreds of dollars per year through the right card’s benefits.

If you think this is what you need, check out our list of best cards for earning airline miles .

Or if you already have an airline in mind that you’re loyal to, and just need help selecting a card for that specific airline, one of the following guides is likely to have what you’re looking for:

  • Best Delta Air Lines credit cards

Hotel-specific credit cards

Hotel credit cards are tied to a specific hotel chain, such as Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, etc. When you spend with these cards, they earn points that deposit into their respective loyalty program.

Often, when picking a hotel card, the perks matter just as much or even more than the rewards. For example, the right card might provide you elite status, a free night certificate, and statement credits you can use for certain expenses at eligible properties within the chain’s portfolio.

The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card illustrates these sorts of perks well. Cardholders get automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status just for holding the card, as well as a Free Night Award every account anniversary good for properties worth up to 35,000 points per night.

Are there travel credit cards with no annual fee?

Yes, there are travel cards with no annual fee on the market—some of them pretty dang good, especially considering the price tag is $0 per year to hold them. For example, the Bilt Mastercard and the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card are two no-annual-fee cards that let you earn points you can transfer to airline and hotel partner programs.

That said, it’s true many of the most popular travel cards on the scene do charge annual fees, often in exchange for more premium benefits. A card that grants airport lounge access will generally run you hundreds of dollars, such as the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card and its $395 annual fee. The Platinum Card® from American Express is perhaps the most famous luxury travel card, charging $695 per year but offering extensive lounge access and numerous statement credits.

Mid-range travel cards provide a happy medium for those seeking more perks than you can get with a no-annual-fee card but not ready to shell out for a premium travel card. Some may even waive the annual fee in the first year. Examples of strong mid-tier travel cards include the American Express® Green Card —priced at $150 per year—and the United Explorer, charging a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year (then $95).

  • Transfer partners are limited

Top perks of travel credit cards

While benefits vary dramatically from card to card, there are a few types of benefits you’re likely to encounter and that you may want to look for when choosing a new card to apply for.

  • Travel-related statement credits. Take for example the aforementioned Capital One Venture X and Chase Sapphire Preferred. The former offers a $300 annual credit for bookings through Capital One Travel while the latter offers a $50 annual credit for hotel stays booked via Chase Travel. These credits alone go a long way toward offsetting each card’s annual fee ($395 for the Venture X, $95 for the Sapphire Preferred).
  • Travel insurance. The Sapphire Preferred is a great example here as well. Cardholders can travel with a little extra peace of mind knowing that if they pay with this card, they’ve got trip cancellation and interruption insurance up to $10,000 per person and $20,000 per trip, trip delay reimbursement up to $500 per ticket, baggage delay insurance up to $100 a day for up to five days, and primary rental car insurance .
  • Elite status. Maybe you really like the sound of certain perks that come with having elite status in your favorite hotel chain’s or airline’s loyalty program. For example, travelers with Hilton Gold status get a daily food and beverage credit or continental breakfast (varies by brand and region). In that case, maybe you’d want to open the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card , which includes Gold status among its benefits.
  • Airport lounge access. While cards with airline lounge access as a perk tend to charge expensive annual fees, you can still end up better off than paying for a lounge membership by itself. For example, if you really want to get into United Club lounges, you might find it a better value to pay $525 for the United Club℠ Infinite Card rather than the $650 a general MileagePlus member would pay for United Club membership.
  • A free night or a companion pass. With some cards, a free night certificate or a companion ticket can cover the cost of the annual fee in one fell swoop. Let’s look at the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card (different from the Amex Platinum mentioned earlier) as an example. The annual fee is $350 but you get a Companion Certificate each year good for a domestic, Caribbean or Central American round-trip flight. If you travel with a friend regularly, this could save you hundreds of dollars. But do note that you’re responsible for covering government-imposed taxes and fees.

How to choose the right travel card for you

Asking a few questions can help you determine if a card is a fit:

  • Does the rewards currency suit your needs? If you want flights, collect airline miles. If you want hotel stays, collect hotel points. And if you want both, collect transferable points. Just make sure you’re earning rewards you can actually use. For example, don’t open a Hyatt credit card if there aren’t any Hyatts where you want to vacation or a Southwest Airlines card if you want to fly to Asia.
  • If there’s a welcome bonus, can you hit the spending target? Most travel credit cards offer a welcome bonus of some kind, typically one where you earn bonus points or miles for spending a certain amount on purchases in a specified time period. For example, the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Visa® Card —the big sibling of the Autograph card mentioned elsewhere—offers 60,000 bonus points if you spend $4,000 in the first three months. If you open a new travel card with a welcome bonus spend requirement that’s unrealistic for your financial situation, you’re leaving rewards on the table.
  • Will you actually use the card’s benefits? This is particularly crucial to consider with statement credits. For example, the American Express® Gold Card ’s dining statement credit of up to $120 per year may sound great, but not if you don’t have any of the eligible merchants (Grubhub, The Cheesecake Factory, Goldbelly, Wine.com, Milk Bar, and select Shake Shack locations) in your area or you never dine with these merchants.
  • Does the card’s rewards program fit your lifestyle? This should be fairly obvious, but in most cases, you’ll want to make sure the card you’re applying for offers rewards in a category that makes up a substantial portion of your budget. So, while someone who frequently eats out at restaurants will probably love the Bilt Mastercard’s elevated rewards on dining, someone who always cooks at home won’t benefit as much.
  • If there’s an annual fee, does it seem reasonable to you? This isn’t to say you shouldn’t pay an annual fee, or even that you shouldn’t pay for a card with an expensive annual fee. But if you do pay for a mid-tier or premium travel card, you should receive more than the cost of the annual fee through rewards and perks. Someone who uses the Capital One Venture X’s annual $300 travel credit has already almost recouped the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card annual fee, but someone who prefers to book directly with airlines and hotels and refuses to book via a portal might never use that credit. Every so often, do the math for your own needs and see if you’re getting value out of the cards you’re carrying.

Glossary of travel card-related terms

Here are a few terms you’ll find useful as you get into traveling with points and miles:

  • Award travel. This refers to using points and miles to book hotel stays and flights.
  • Transferable points. Consider this the same as the flexible rewards we explained above. You earn points that your credit card issuer allows you to transfer to various airline and hotel partners, rather than being tied to one airline or hotel chain.
  • Welcome bonus. You may also hear this called a welcome offer or a sign-up bonus. Welcome bonuses reward new cardholders after opening an account, typically by offering bonus points or miles for spending a certain amount in a specified time frame.
  • Foreign transaction fee. This is a fee, typically around 3%, that some credit cards charge for using your card abroad. Most travel cards charge no foreign transaction fee, though there are exceptions. We recommend making sure you’re taking a card with no foreign transaction fee if you’re planning a trip outside the United States.
  • Award chart. If an airline or hotel chain offers a chart showing the number of points you need to redeem for various types of flights or stays, you’re looking at an award chart. Fixed award charts used to be more common in the past, with many programs nowadays using dynamic pricing. More on that in the next entry.
  • Dynamic pricing. Essentially, dynamic pricing means the number of points or miles you’ll need to redeem for a flight or stay varies based on factors such as seasonality and demand. There isn’t a set cost for the award ticket or room that you wish to book, in this case—it can and likely will fluctuate.
  • Chase 5/24 rule. This is an unwritten rule that affects applications for Chase-issued credit cards (including co-branded airline and hotel cards). Basically, it means that if you’ve opened five or more personal credit cards from any issuer in the past 24 months, you’ll get denied if you apply for any Chase credit cards. For this reason, you may hear travelers who collect points and miles talking about their Chase 5/24 status.

How to maximize your travel rewards

Maximize your rewards-earning potential.

We mentioned this before, but pick a credit card that rewards categories you normally spend in. If you dine out at restaurants frequently, you may find a card such as the Bilt Mastercard or Chase Sapphire Preferred allows you to satisfy both your inner foodie and your inner travel rewards lover. But if you tend to spend more at supermarket, consider the American Express Gold Card.

Meanwhile, someone who makes a lot of hard-to-categorize purchases might prefer a card that earns rewards at a flat rate on every purchase, like the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card or Venture X.

It may even be worth carrying multiple credit cards that compliment each other. For example, one might carry the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Freedom Flex℠ , and Chase Freedom Unlimited ® . With this setup, you’d use the Sapphire Preferred for purchases like travel and dining, use the Freedom Flex for its rotating categories, and the Freedom Unlimited for your more random purchases.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

for you travel pleite

Reward Rates

  • 5x Earn 5x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel
  • 2x Earn 2x miles on every purchase
  • Flexible travel rewards
  • No foreign transaction fee
  • Maximizing Capital One Miles requires a learning curve
  • Cash redemption value is limited
  • The Venture offers travel accident insurance, rental car coverage, extended warranty protection, exclusive access to events through Capital One Dining and Capital One Entertainment

Redeem your rewards wisely

At the risk of stating the obvious, redeem airline miles for flights and hotel points for hotel stays. If your card offers redemption choices such as shopping for merchandise with your rewards, beware that you’ll probably get a subpar value.

Similarly, with a card that earns flexible points, transfer them to airline or hotel partners or use them to book travel in your issuer’s portal.

As a rule of thumb, strive to get a value of 1 cent or more per point or mile redeemed with most airline programs. Hotel program values are more variable so it helps to do a bit of research before booking. To calculate that value, divide the cash price of the purchase by the points required, then multiply by 100. For example, a redemption with a cash price of $500 and an award cost of 26,000 points means you’re getting a value of roughly 1.9 cents per point. (To get even more nitty gritty, subtract the cost of any taxes and fees from the cash price before you do the calculation.)

If you’re someone who values luxury, know that you can often get the highest cents-per-points value when springing for high-end properties or business class and first class flights. But of course, it’s not just the math that matters, but the utility.

Travelers who just want to fund a simple holiday vacation with their points can do so, and shouldn’t feel the need to spend more points just for a higher cent-per-point number. Consider not just the retail cost when valuing points, but the actual amount you would be willing to pay. If a flight costs $5,000 but you could reasonably get where you want to go for $1,000 you’ll be better served going with the lower number as your cost basis.

Finally, learning how airline alliances work can help you leverage both your airline miles and your flexible points. The three major alliances to be aware of are Oneworld, SkyTeam, and Star Alliance. As just one example of how this can help you get where you want to go, both Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic are part of SkyTeam—so if you have a credit card that lets you transfer points to Virgin, you can search through Virgin for partner space on Delta flights.

The takeaway

Travel credit cards can unlock experiences you might otherwise never have had access to. By learning how to earn and redeem airline miles, hotel points, and flexible rewards you can transfer, the sky’s the limit on where your travels can take you.

Frequently asked questions

Why am i being charged money for an award ticket.

You’re likely seeing the passenger fee, which is a government-required security fee. This is generally $5.60 per person for a one-way flight or $11.20 per person for a round-trip flight departing from a domestic airport on a U.S.-based airline. Taxes from other countries, airline surcharges and other fees may also come into play when booking an award ticket.

Can I pay for part of my booking with points and part of it with cash?

Most likely, yes. It’s common for rewards programs to let you pay for part of a flight or hotel stay with cash and part of it with points. But note this may not always yield the best value for your points.

What credit score is needed to get a travel card?

Issuers generally like to see a good or better credit score when you apply for a rewards credit card—that’s typically considered a FICO Score of 670 or higher. To be on the safe side, it’s a good rule of thumb to make sure your credit score is 700 or higher before hitting the “apply” button. If you’re not sure what your credit score is, there are a variety of ways to check for free, such as signing up for an account with the credit bureau Experian .

Are points and miles or cash back better?

First, we should note that the distinction between reward types is not always cut and dry. For example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points—a flexible travel currency that you can transfer to airline and hotel loyalty programs, use for bookings through Chase Travel℠, or redeem as cash back to a bank account at a value of 1 cent each.

So, what the rewards are called is not the most important thing. Rather, it’s how you can redeem them. With a travel card, you should have options for using your points or miles to book award flights or stays. With a cash-back card, you’ll probably just be taking your rewards as a deposit to your checking account or a statement credit against your card’s account balance.

As to which is better, it depends on your preferences and how often you travel. Someone who is looking to leverage credit card rewards to make travel more affordable, and is willing to learn how to find good award travel deals, should opt for a travel card. But someone who never travels, or who values simplicity above all else, will benefit more from a cash-back card.

What’s the best first travel credit card?

This depends entirely on your financial habits and travel needs. However, the Bilt Mastercard (even if you don’t need to earn rewards on rent) is one of our top picks if you’re looking for a no-annual-fee travel card. That’s because it earns elevated rewards on dining, provides travel protections such as trip delay reimbursement you don’t usually find on cards without an annual fee, and lets you transfer your rewards to more than a dozen airline and hotel loyalty programs.

How to pack a makeup travel kit.

Only pack what you think you really will need and use. Use our suggestion to downsize your beauty products into smaller containers.

When it comes time to pack your makeup, you’ll want to consider a makeup bag to keep it separate and neat in your luggage. Consider a small cosmetic bag that can fit easily into your toiletry bag.

We recommend a toiletry bag that will hold all of your necessities and keep you organized. Some travel toiletry bags can hang in your accommodation, for extra convenience.

Get our free toiletries packing list here!

You also can wrap your makeup bag in clothing and add to your packing cube in your suitcase for further protection. Even if you travel carry-on only, your bag may be put into an overhead bin, under a seat, or hauled up flights of stairs. You don’t want to break your products.

However, if something does happen to your makeup or beauty supplies, if you forget something, or if you need something, you can buy products at your destination.

Hi, my favorite makeup for travel or everyday. Is Christina cosmetics color pallette number one. It is a powder base makeup pallete that can be applied in under a minute with 4 shades that can be used individually for blush or eyeshadow. Or applied together as a total face, natural looking finish. Having oily skin like mine, these compacts are perfect.

Alex

Thank you for sharing your recommendation wit us!

A fantastic brand where you can truly creat a pallet of what you exactly need is by sustainable brand Elate Beauty in Canada. Definitely worth checking out.

Thanks for sharing your recommendation with us Melanie!

Meeh

I love the Lancome one.

Hi Meeh, thank you for sharing! Happy travels! ?

What is the palette featured in the main picture for this blog post, the one with ten (?) colors including blue, lavender, grey, etc.? I use an Eagle Creek Specter quarter-cube for makeup. I fill it with stick foundation, travel-size powder, 2 blushes, 2 eye palettes, and brushes corralled in a snack-size ziplock. After flying I transfer mascara, concealer, and primer into the cube.

Hi Dianne, I am afraid that the image at the top of the article is a stock image so I am not sure of the brand. Here are some makeup palettes which are similar to the one in the image: https://amzn.to/2Ug8MyS and https://amzn.to/2UvG5x9 . Sorry I could not have been of more help. 🙁

I have an Estee Lauder one I bought from Schiphol airport. comes with kohl eyeliner, mascara, 4 eyeshadows (a nude palette with shimmer shades as well as matte shades), lipsticks (in 4 colours you’d actually wear ranging from peach to red), face powder (with a little plastic hinged lid) and you can take the palettes out of the case – and a mirror. I use it for my regular makeup routine, super easy!

alex

I LOVE The palettes you find in airports- AWESOME recommendation!

My favourite is from Jane Iredale make up and is a little starter kit. You can get it in light, ledium or dark and it includes: PurePressed Base, PurePressed Blush, 3 shades of PurePressed Eye Shadow, Circle\Delete Concealer, PureMoist Lipstick, PureGloss Lip Gloss, Blush Brush and Dual Ended Eye Brush. Everything you need except mascara and eyeliner all in one! And good for your skin too.

Sounds great! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Snow-capped peaks, scenic grandeur: What to expect at Rocky Mountain National Park

for you travel pleite

Rocky Mountain National Park is no hidden gem.

Over 4.1 million people visited the park last year, making it the fifth most visited national park in America, according to National Park Service statistics.

It’s so busy in the summer that timed entry reservations are required for a good chunk of each day.

Here’s what draws so many people to Rocky Mountain and what travelers should know about the latest national park in USA TODAY’s yearlong series .

What is so special about Rocky Mountain National Park?

If you close your eyes and think of the southern Rockies, “Rocky Mountain National Park captures all of that,” said the park’s Public Affairs Officer Kyle Patterson.

“Snow capped peaks, amazing recreational opportunities for 12 months out of the year, watchable wildlife , and scenic grandeur,” she said that’s what visitors always extol.

She added that the Continental Divide runs right through the park, and the park is the headwaters for numerous major rivers.

What is the best time to visit Rocky Mountain National Park?

The answer depends on your interests.

“Do you want to see snow and ice, or do you want to see wildflowers and more greenery?” Patterson asked. “Are you interested in hiking? Are you interested in snowshoeing?” The park has more than 350 miles of hiking trails .

The busy season is late May through mid-October when temperatures are milder, all roads are open, and entry reservations are required during certain times of the day.

“My favorite part about Rocky is just how different it is depending upon what season you visit the park,” Patterson said.

What city is closest to Rocky Mountain National Park? What town should I stay in?

“We have two wonderful communities that are right at the doorstep of Rocky Mountain National Park,” Patterson said. “Estes Park on the east side and Grand Lake on the west side.”

She added that about 80% of visitors enter through Estes Park, which is also closer to Denver and its international airport. However, she said visitors enjoy both gateway communities.

“Estes Park and Grand Lake both have wonderful amenities from lodging to restaurants to other activities that people can do when they're visiting this area,” she said.

Can you drive through Rocky Mountain National Park without a reservation?

Yes, but it depends on when you visit.

Timed entry reservations are required to access most of the park between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. from May 24 through Oct. 14.

However, if you want to access the park’s busy Bear Lake Road, you’ll need a different type of reservation called Timed Entry+. That reservation grants access to all the parks' roads but is specifically required for Bear Lake Road between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. from May 24 through Oct. 20.

If you enter outside of those hours or dates, you won’t need a reservation, but it’s important to note that the park’s popular Trail Ridge Road , which connects the east and west sides of the park, is closed through the winter.

How long does it take to drive through Rocky Mountain National Park?

“If somebody's coming when Trail Ridge Road is open, we recommend people to give themselves at least three hours to drop over the top of the park,” Patterson said.

That also allows time to stop and take in views and shorter hikes along the way.

“You never know what you might see as you drive along the road, and you want to give yourself plenty of time,” she said. “Also, the speeds of travel on the road should be slow … It’s not like you’re driving a highway.”

How much time do I need to see Rocky Mountain National Park?

“Because we're so close to a large population in Colorado we have people that will come up here for two hours,” Patterson said. Locals can visit any time, but she said it would be “a bummer” to only spend a few hours in the park on a first visit.

She said the average visit is around two days, though you can stay longer to experience more.

Which Native tribes are tied to Rocky Mountain National Park?

“Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the oldest national parks in the country. Rocky was established in 1915,” Patterson said, but she and the park point out that Native Americans have stewarded the land for thousands of years.

“What is now Rocky Mountain National Park is part of the traditional homeland and territory of many present-day Tribal nations including, the Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, Montana; Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, Oklahoma; Comanche Nation, Oklahoma; Eastern Shoshone Tribe of the Wind River Reservation, Wyoming; Kiowa Indian Tribe of Oklahoma, Northern Arapaho Tribe of the Wind River Reservation, Wyoming; Northern Cheyenne Tribe of the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation, Montana; Southern Ute Indian Tribe of the Southern Ute Reservation, Colorado; Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah & Ouray Reservation, Utah; and Ute Mountain Ute Tribe of the Ute Mountain Reservation, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah,” the park acknowledges on its website.

What else should travelers know about Rocky Mountain?

It can feel like winter into May at the park, and winter can also creep into fall.

Weather can also change rapidly and differ dramatically, depending on the elevation. The high altitude can also affect travelers who aren’t used to it.

“Just giving yourself some time to acclimate and taking care of yourself, like drinking lots of water, is really crucial because you can get dehydrated here really quickly,” she said. “Being prepared for traveling to a place like Rocky will make all the difference in the world.”

Delta eclipse flight from Dallas veered off path of totality

The airline said air traffic control would not allow its planned maneuver.

for you travel pleite

A special eclipse flight operated by Delta Air Lines on Monday deviated from the path of totality, the airline confirmed, causing passengers to miss a prime view of the moon completely obstructing the sun.

Delta told The Washington Post on Friday that air traffic controllers would not allow the plane traveling from Dallas to Detroit to make the turns it had planned to accommodate both sides of the plane.

The flight was slightly off-set from the path of totality, Delta said, as air traffic control managed severe congestion and a flood of special maneuver requests along the path of the eclipse. While another Delta flight from Austin was permitted to climb to the right altitude to complete a maneuver called an S-curve, the airline said the Dallas flight was not.

2024 total solar eclipse

for you travel pleite

The Federal Aviation Administration did not comment on the Delta flight’s path specifically, but said that the agency was focused on safety as jets and noncommercial planes filled the air to view the eclipse above the clouds. The FAA had previously warned about congestion and possible impacts to air traffic .

“Our first goal and our top priority is always the safety of flights,” said FAA spokesman Chris Mullooly. “We knew that there were going to be possible impacts to some of the traffic.”

Instead of its planned maneuvers, Delta’s Airbus A321neo flew in a circle to give both sides a look from 33,000 feet. But passengers didn’t get the view they expected.

“I kind of immediately suspected the positioning was off,” said passenger Dimitrije Ratkov, who raised the possibility the flight missed totality to The Post on Thursday. “I knew something had gone wrong, but wasn’t sure what.”

Delta had warned about such a possibility, even as passengers paid more than $1,000 in some cases for a seat. For both the Dallas and Austin flights, the airline included this disclaimer: “While Delta flight plans have been designed to maximize time within the path of totality, this is subject to change due to factors outside of Delta’s control such as weather and air traffic control that could impact timing and aircraft.”

On board flight 1010, passengers — including this reporter, who paid nearly $850 for a refundable ticket — craned their necks to catch a glimpse of the sun. “Can you see it?” turned into “Did you see it?” as the plane turned. The sky and ground grew darker, but glimpses of the sun were brief.

Several people captured photos of the sun partially blocked by the moon, later showing off thumbnails of glowing orange. They chalked the difficulty up to the tricky angle of the sun high above, speed of the plane and confines of the aircraft.

While the flight was full of media, the movement outside the prime eclipse path was not discovered until Ratkov, a PhD student in virology at Mayo Clinic, compared the path of the flight to that of the eclipse using a flight-tracking site and NASA’s eclipse map. He posted his videos on YouTube and sent emails to reporters with the subject line: “Dallas Eclipse Flight Made Wrong Turn and Exited Path of Totality.”

Delta did not confirm the accuracy of Ratkov’s video, but acknowledged after looking into questions from The Post that the plane went out of the path of totality. Flight-tracking sites Flightradar24 and FlightAware show the plane making the circle southeast of Jonesboro, Ark.

The first flight Delta announced for the eclipse, from Austin, appeared on Flightradar24 to stay within the path. Photos from that flight clearly showed darker skies and the sun blocked by the moon, though Detroit Free Press photographer Eric Seals wrote on Instagram that even that was “very hard to photograph.”

Many passengers on the Dallas flight told The Post on Monday that while they were disappointed they didn’t have a better vantage point, they enjoyed the experience anyway. The airline threw parties before takeoff and after landing, and placed bags full of special socks, hats, snacks and other trinkets on seats.

The flight’s captain told The Post on Monday that those on the left side of the plane probably had the best view, and said the flight got a little over three minutes to view totality. He told USA Today: “It was great. It really went off without a hitch.”

Kyle Carter, a private pilot and stay-at-home dad from Orlando, said Monday that he was happy to have seen the moon’s shadow racing toward the plane from behind. He said Friday that, as a pilot, he understood in advance that several factors could make the experience less than ideal.

“I would still do it again,” he said. “I went into it with that kind of background knowledge. It was not a sure thing to me that we were going to see it.”

Ratkov, who paid just over $1,100 for a refundable ticket, said he started traveling from Minnesota early Sunday morning, slept that night at the airport in Dallas and made it home around 6 a.m. Tuesday. He said the mood in his row was chatty and upbeat leading up to totality, but downcast afterward.

After the airline put out a celebratory news release and much coverage was positive, he said he wanted the record about the flight to be corrected and for Delta to provide an explanation for what happened.

“It was a major disappointment,” and a big financial investment, he said. “It had been obviously promoted as the second eclipse flight.”

If you can’t get enough of totality, or missed out this time, you’ll have three more chances in the next four years in destinations like Iceland, Spain, Egypt and Australia.

A small, black disk surrounded by a bright, white halo suspended in a mostly dark sky over the still waters of a lake in which dim, golden light from the horizon is reflecting. There are dark hills and mountains beyond the lake.

By Danielle Dowling

Are you still a little giddy from the magical moments of totality during Monday’s solar eclipse? Or did clouds swoop in to block your view? Maybe you just couldn’t make it to the path of totality this time. No matter what, the question now is “ Where and when will it happen again?”

“People who have never seen it before, the first words out of their mouth after the totality ends is ‘I’ve got to see another one, this is incredible, this is unbelievable.’ That is when you become addicted to these things and end up traveling no matter where the next one is,” said Joseph Rao, an eclipse chaser and guest lecturer at the Hayden Planetarium.

So, if like Mr. Rao, you’ve developed a raging case of umbraphilia — the love of eclipses — you’ll have three chances over the next four years to see the moon blot out the sun. The first, on Aug. 12, 2026, will start above Greenland, then strafe the west coast of Iceland and move along the Atlantic Ocean and over Spain. Almost a year later, on Aug. 2, 2027, another will skirt the Mediterranean coast of North Africa then cross Egypt and part of the Arabian Peninsula. The third, on July 22, 2028, will cut across Australia and the southern tip of New Zealand.

Since meeting Ms. Pike in 2019, I have been extremely pleased with her professionalism, knowledge of Norwegian cruise lines and its policies and her quick responses to my questions. Because of her, I will keep Norwegian Cruise lines as my first choice, in addition to recommending her to others who are interested in cruises.

Elite Travel For You truly assisted me with organizing one of the most magical and affordable vacations to Greece and Italy. The hotels were absolutely beautiful and were within walking to many restaurants and shopping. We had private tours to many of tourist attractions. The guides were timely and professional. My travel arrangements were TRULY ELITE.

We appreciate your help planning our Hawaiian vacation. We had a spectacular time and the accommodations you selected were top-notch. We checked in early and Marc has Marriott points so some things are complimentary. The room is beautiful and I love the hotel. I don't really want to go home. Next time, we will stay longer. Thanks for planning such a stellar trip.

I'm a first-generation HBCU graduate. I'm now broke and lonelier than ever without my college friends for support.

  • I'm a first-generation HBCU graduate from Spelman College.
  • At school, I met inspiring Black women who became my community.
  • Now that I've graduated, I miss that community, and it doesn't help that I'm broke and jobless.

Insider Today

In May 2023, I became the first in my family to obtain a degree from a four-year institution. I sometimes forget how big of a deal it is that I graduated from a top-rated HBCU .

College was always a given for me, but I never could've fathomed that I'd not only be accepted to Spelman College in Atlanta but also come across some of the most awe-inspiring people I have ever met while there.

Now that I'm a broke, jobless graduate , I feel lonelier than ever without my Spelman sisterhood by my side.

The people I met during my undergraduate career irrevocably changed my life

As a freshman at Spelman, I was introduced to something I wasn't familiar with: collectiveness through the lens of sisterhood.

The best part about the all-girls school for big-brained Black girls was the feeling of never being alone. If my procrastination led to pulling an all-nighter for an exam worth 20% of my grade at 11 a.m. on a Wednesday, I could find solace in knowing that two of my classmates also did the same thing. When we'd flunk the exam regardless of how hard we group-prayed that we'd all at least pass, we could lick our wounds in the jam-packed cafeteria over a plate of soul food and the thump of the Isley Brothers.

Little moments like those at Spelman provided a spiritual respite that's hard to replicate anywhere else.

COVID robbed me of my sophomore year. Words fail to describe how mind-numbingly dreadful it was to "do school" behind a 14-inch screen, especially after sampling what it meant to be surrounded by like-minded Black women for months.

Related stories

When I returned to campus as a junior, I told myself I'd go hard applying for opportunities, joining clubs, attending campus events , and engaging with peers. I can confidently say that it all worked out, but I don't think anything could've prepared me for how hard my friends' absences would hit me once we all graduated.

I'm feeling much lonelier now that I'm a graduate

It's been almost a year since I left Spelman with my degree, honors, and accomplishments. But now, I'm broke and jobless — two things I've been before. But 10 months ago, I lived with other broke, jobless people who helped me shave and dye my head when life got rough.

We're all scattered to the wind, out in the world, making choices that are changing the world.

I cheer my college friends on from behind my phone screen and wish I were there with them, sharing in their celebrations like before. Most of the time, a comment on their Instagram story is the full extent of what I can do. Our obligations keep us busy and separated, so when I finish applying to my 10th job of the week, I send a text or a DM and hope my peers are having better luck than me.

I'm trying to find happiness in my post-grad life

I don't want my peak to be college, so I've looked to other avenues for community.

Luckily, I've found some online crochet groups that are Black women-centric. I try to imagine what the people in the forums look like behind their screens. I wonder if their faces light up like mine when I finish that final half-double stitch. I wonder if they'd cheer for me as my professors did when I landed that one LA internship they encouraged me to apply for. Suffice it to say, the groups aren't like my college community, but it's something.

Look, college wasn't always great. I'd be lying if I said I didn't ever doubt my place among my poly-lingual, Dean's List peers well into my junior year. But then, my roommate's family would take me out to eat with them, pay for my meal, and then buy me desserts to take back to my dorm. They'd tell me how much they were rooting for me and how proud they were. Those gestures reminded me that I belonged. I miss those gestures.

Spelman gave me my first real taste of a tight-knit community I don't believe I'll find in this economy again. So, for now, I'll stick to crocheting little lemon pouches and granny squares, hoping I can see my college friends again soon.

Travel tips for snowbirds returning to Canada

From: Canada Border Services Agency

News release

April 12, 2024 Ottawa, Ontario

The Canada Border Services Agency and the Canadian Snowbird Association are encouraging Canadians who have spent the winter abroad to plan ahead for a smooth return to Canada this spring.

These are the top travel tips to know before arriving at the border:

Have your travel documents handy.  Whether travelling by land, air or water, you can help speed up processing times by coming prepared with your travel documents.

Driving home? Plan ahead and check  border wait times . You can avoid waiting in line by planning your drive to cross the border during non-peak hours such as early morning.

Flying home? Save time with Advance Declaration .  Download the application on your smart phone to make your customs declaration up to 72 hours in advance of your arrival into Canada at the Toronto, Vancouver, Montréal, Winnipeg, Halifax, Québec City, Ottawa, Billy Bishop, Calgary and Edmonton international airports. Data shows that using this tool can reduce time at a kiosk or eGate by up to 50%.

Be prepared to declare your goods upon entry into Canada.  Gather your receipts for goods purchased or received while away before you travel and keep them readily available. Visit I Declare: A guide for residents returning to Canada and use the  CBSA duty and taxes estimator  to help calculate your monies owed. You should be aware of everything that is inside your vehicle as you are responsible for its contents.

Know your exemptions from duties and taxes .  If you have been outside of Canada seven days or more, you can import goods worth up to CAN$800, duty-and tax-free. Within this personal exemption, you are allowed to bring back duty and tax free:

  • Two bottles of wine (1.5 litres total), or one large standard bottle of liquor (1.14 litres),  or  approximately 24 cans or bottles (355 ml each) of beer (8.5 litres total); and,
  • 200 cigarettes, and 50 cigars, and 200 grams manufactured tobacco,  and  200 tobacco sticks. The packages must be stamped “duty paid,” as you would find them at a duty-free store.

Travelling with medication?  If you have a prescription for a narcotic or controlled drug, you must declare it and ensure its in properly labelled container. Learn more about your responsibilities .

Travelling with firearms? If you are travelling with a firearm be sure to check the  rules on importing firearms  and other  restricted and prohibited goods before your departure. Better yet, consider leaving the firearm at home.

Importing a vehicle ?   If you are a resident of Canada you can  temporarily import a vehicle  that is licensed and registered in the United States, however, the duty and tax implications, the length of time the vehicle can remain in Canada, and how the vehicle can be used in Canada may differ. If you are permanently importing a vehicle from the U.S. or Mexico, visit Canada’s  Registrar of Imported Vehicles  website prior to arriving at the border for details about vehicle eligibility and the overall process, including the necessary duties and taxes.

Bringing poultry across the border?  Any poultry products you wish to bring into Canada must be for human consumption, retail packaged and labelled as a "Product of the USA." Homemade food or leftovers containing poultry cannot be brought into Canada. Check the latest  Information for travellers: Restrictions on poultry and birds from the United States  before bringing these products across the border.

Travelling with a pet or importing an animal into Canada? You will need the right paperwork at the border to meet Canada's import requirements.

Not sure? Ask a border officer.  The best thing you can do to save time is to be open and honest with the CBSA officer. Be sure to follow all instructions they provide to you. If you are not sure about what to declare, don't hesitate to ask. Our officers are here to help!

Quick facts

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) supports national security and public safety priorities by facilitating the free flow of persons and goods, including animals and plants.

The Canadian Snowbird Association is a not-for-profit advocacy organization for travelling Canadians, representing more than 115,000 members.
