Bible Verses to Read When Traveling

A psalm for traveling, scripture prayers for safe travel, short godly travel quotes.

My favorite travel moments happen when I connect what I see with the good news in  Scripture  verses. Scripture references often increase my own understanding of various locations, especially in a foreign country. Bible verses and prayers for safe travel put our hearts and minds at ease.

Here are some of my favorite travel Bible verses organized by category for easy reference. Remember, the Lord keeps you close at all times.

1. God’s Protection

You are never without God’s strong right hand and faithful presence. Such a beautiful truth strengthens a man’s heart and a woman’s steps to be brave!

1) Luke 4:10  – “He will command His angels concerning you to guard you carefully.” 2) Proverbs 3:23-24  – “Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” 3) Psalm 121:7-8  – “The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” 4) Psalm 91:2, 4   – “This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.   Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day.”

2. Covenant of Peace

If you are traveling to a new place that is unfamiliar to you, your peace of mind may take a hit. You may not even speak the local language. The Apostle Paul certainly understood those challenges.

Again, Bible verses and prayers for safe travel calm anxiety. Let these words of the Lord find a hiding place in your heart.

5) Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)  – “Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” 6) John 14:27  – “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” 7) Romans 12:18  – “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” 8) Ephesians 2:14  – “For He himself is our peace.” 9) Philippians 4:7  – “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” 10) Colossians 3:15  – “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” 11) 2 Thessalonians 3:16  – “Now may the Lord of  peace  himself give you  peace  at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.”

Joshua 1:9; Bible verses and prayers for safe travel

3. Good Success

How we define a travel “success” varies. I deem a trip successful when three criteria are met:

  • I saw new destinations in God’s creation;
  • I met new people; and
  • I learned many new things that gave me a greater appreciation of God and His hand over my life.

Regardless of how you define a successful trip, here are a few words to the faith and faithful to keep close.

12) Psalm 23:3  – “He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake.” 13) Proverbs 16:9  – “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” 14) Proverbs 3:3-5  – “Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.   So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.”

joy in the bible

The Psalms in  God’s holy Word  contain extraordinary words of faith to guide believers. I keep Psalm 139 close at hand as I travel. When God is your comfort zone, the whole earth is your oyster. And that is no little thing!

15) Psalm 139:3-10 (NLT)  – “You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.   You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.   You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.   Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!   I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!   If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.   If I ride the wings of the dawn, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,   even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.” 16) Psalm 139:3-10 (ESV)  – “You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.   Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.   You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.   Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.   Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?   If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in the depths of the earth, you are there!   If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,   even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.”

Bible verses and prayers for safe travel

Praying daily keeps the  Word of God  and God’s love vibrant as you enjoy God’s creation where you travel. His Holy Spirit inside of you is the voice of the Lord directing you the right way.

17) Heavenly Father, thank you for the opportunity and joy to travel in this season of my life. You have kept me and my loved ones safe, and I am grateful. Allow me to cherish the life of every living thing on my journey and return me home safely. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 18) Lord, I am traveling where You have opened the door. Erase any second thoughts and let me trust in You. I am safe with you. I do not travel alone for your hand is upon me. Your protection is divine. In front and behind You encircle my life. For I am yours, and you are mine. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 19) O King of my heart, I travel knowing that the eyes of the Lord are upon me. Words of the faith You have given me are hidden in my heart. I pray that the glory of the Lord goes before me so that I can shine Your light wherever I go. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

18 Comforting Bible Verses For Protection when traveling

' src=

Traveling may at times evoke feelings of anxiety, fear, or uncertainty. God in His wisdom knew that we may experience these emotions from time to time and has provided encouragement, counsel, and comfort through the holy scriptures.

The Bible has a number of passages that point to the fact that the Lord is always with us in our going out and in our coming in.

It is the Lord who guides and protects us while we travel. In the King James Version of Matthew 28:20 Jesus made a promise that “lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world”.

The Lord is not slack concerning His promises. All we have to do is trust in Him for protection and He will guide us each step of the way.

In the book of Proverbs, we are told to trust in the Lord and He will direct our path. The English Standard Version puts it this way, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths”. Proverbs 3:5-6

There is great comfort in knowing that we serve an omnipresent God who is not just everywhere but takes a deep interest in our wellbeing. The Heavenly Father carefully guards us, He goes before us, and He is beside us.

With His constant presence, we can be confident that wherever we go we will have a safe journey thanks to the watchful eye of our Lord.

Luke 4:10 NIV : God’s angels will shield you

Luke 4:10 NIV images pictures quotes

“For it is written: He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully;”

In the gospel of Luke, the word of God gives the assurance that the Lord will command His angels to carefully guard and protect you. There is no need to be anxious or fearful because the Lord has assigned spiritual bodyguards to escort you and provide invisible protection.

Bullets, accidents, and other man-made devices have no power over the entourage of angels who are tasked with your protection as you embark on very risky journeys in remote places or volatile areas.

Proverbs 3:23 NIV : You are under The Lord’s protection “Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble.”

This text offers counsel on how to ensure you have a safe journey without being sidetracked by obstacles and barriers. In verse twenty-one, two important things are mentioned wisdom and discretion.

Wisdom and discretion will ensure that you are guided by sound reason as you embark on your journey. In addition, wisdom comes from the Lord which means you should consult God before any undertaking in order to be shielded from unforeseen danger while traveling.

Proverbs 3:26 NIV: God’s hand will shelter you. “for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.”

This text has a comforting promise that offers protection. Reflecting on this verse will keep you in good spirits as you prepare for long journeys. The Lord will bless you with sunshine, good weather, smooth traffic, a safe flight, and anything else you need while traveling.

This is also a great text if you will be traveling alone. Not having a companion on a trip may make you feel somewhat uncomfortable especially if you don’t know where you are going.

However, there is no need to worry because Jesus Christ will travel with you each step of the way and ensure that you get to your final destination safely.

Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV : You are entrusted to God’s care. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

This is one of those Bible verses that speaks true peace to the mind and dispel anxiety and fear. Knowing that the Lion of Judah, the Prince of Peace, and the God of Hosts is with you is very comforting.

There is no need to worry about uncertainties. There is no reason to be fearful of the outcome because Jehovah is on the same journey to secure safe travel in your going out and in your coming in.

Psalm 139:9-10 NIV : Jesus will secure and guard you. “If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, ¹⁰ even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”

There is no place in the world where you may go and not have the assurance that the Lord is watching over you. The psalmist understood this and in return decided to express the words in this passage.

This verse is especially calming for individuals who are uncomfortable with plane rides or traveling by ship. If you travel to the highest point in the sky or take a long expedition by sea the hands of the Lord will guide and uphold you.

God’s word has a number of verses that may be used as prayer requests for safe travel. You may want a verse for safe driving, a text to prayerfully reflect on while flying, or a short verse to prepare you mentally for a camping or hiking trip.

Psalm 91:1-2 NIV : The Lord’s watchful eye will guide and protect you

Psalm 91:1-2 NIV images pictures quotes

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. ² I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

This text is a beautiful prayer . You may repeat it word for word with conviction or you may use it as a guide to form a prayer like the one below.

Dear Lord, help me to consistently dwell in the secret place of the Most High and abide under the shadow of the Almighty. You are my refuge and I trust in You. Keep me under your wings as I travel today. I humbly ask these mercies in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Psalm 121:7-8 NIV : You are under God’s shield of protection. “The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; ⁸ the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

This Psalm may be used as a short prayer for your children, family members , or anyone else who will be leaving your company to go on a journey.

You may repeat these words as you hug at the door, you may prayerfully chant them for a goodbye ritual, or you may use them to affirm your departing guests.

You may use this template while adding the person’s name.

O Lord, keep (insert name) from all harm and watch over (his/her) life. Watch over (his/her) going out and coming in both now and forevermore I ask in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Psalm 36:7 NIV : You are held within God’s protective embrace. “How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.”

The Lord is gracious and merciful and you can always depend on Him for His keeping care, tender mercies, and protection. If you are about to start a journey or while traveling you may repeat this verse to acknowledge the blessings of the Lord and request His continued guidance.

O God, your everlasting love is priceless to us. We take refuge under the shadow of your wings as we travel today. Grant us your richest blessings we ask in the name of our Redeemer Jesus Christ. Amen.

I Peter 5:7 NIV : The grace of Christ Jesus will watch over you. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Here is a short prayer you may say to quell any anxieties you may be having.

Merciful God, help me not to be anxious about my upcoming trip. I place all my travel plans, concerns, and cares in your steady hands and I will lay all my burdens at your feet. Send your Holy Spirit to comfort me. I humbly ask in Jesus’ name Amen.

Isaiah 41:10 NIV : Jesus’ divine grace will shield you from danger. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Here is a prayer that you may whisper to the Lord while using Isaiah 41:10 as a guide.

Dear God, I claim the promises in your word. You told me that I should not fear or be dismayed because You are with me and You are my God.

Give me the strength and help I need as I go on this journey and uphold me with your righteous right hand. I ask these journeying mercies in the name of Jesus. Amen

If you are in need of some powerful Psalms that speak about protection and safe travel then the twenty-third Psalm is an excellent choice. Along with this well-known text, you may also find other Psalms that provide great reassurance about God’s protection.

Psalm 23:3-4 NIV : God will shield you from harm.

Psalm 23:3-4 NIV images pictures quotes

“he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. ⁴ Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

This Psalm is timeless, well-known, and powerful because of the promises found in it. You can plan any trip or go on any journey knowing the Lord will guide you in the path of righteousness.

There is no need to fear evil when you travel through a dark valley or if you have to drive on dangerous roads. David was confident that even in the valley of the shadow of death evil would not harm him.

You too can have this confidence as you depend on the Lord of Lords to bless you with a safe trip.

Psalm 32:7 NIV : He will keep you out of harm’s way. “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”

This Psalm speaks about the protection that is found in Jesus Christ. You can embark on any journey knowing that your safety is guaranteed.

There are instances where you may face obstacles but the word of God says that you will be protected from trouble and surrounded with deliverance.

Psalm 18:2 NIV : He will ensure your safety and security. “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

It’s a breath of fresh air knowing that when you take God with you on a journey you can be relaxed and calm. He is your rock, a fortress of protection, a refuge, a shield, and a hiding place.

If a family trip or business trip doesn’t go the way you plan you can always lean on the Lord for a source of strength and guidance.

Psalm 119:105 NIV : The Lord will lead you on a safe road “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

It is important to take the word of God with you wherever you may go. This Psalm is a reminder that it will be a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path.

Reflect on God’s word, repeat your favorite Bible verse, or prayerfully whisper a text for protection and the Lord will enlighten you as you travel.

A vacation may bring mixed emotions. You are excited to go and enjoy yourself as you relax but you may also get anxious as you plan and put your itinerary together.

These verses will help you to have a tranquil and peaceful mindset.

Colossians 3:15 NIV : Be at peace because God is with you

Colossians 3:15 NIV images pictures quotes

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

This verse is a great text to reflect on while vacationing. Don’t worry about work, unchecked emails, and the thousand other things that usually preoccupy your time.

Unwind, relax, rest, and let the peace of Christ surround you. Your trip is a call to peace so keep it that way.

Psalm 32:8 NIV : The Lord is always with you “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

This verse may provide direction while you plan your vacation or allow you to follow that still-small voice while on your trip. Either way, there is no better thing than following God’s will and allowing Him to guide and direct you even while you enjoy yourself on a vacation.

Joshua 1:5 NIV : He will always be beside you, watching and protecting you “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Moses witnessed firsthand the protective and nurturing power of God. He was tremendously rescued from the River Nile as a baby. He saw the Lord destroy the pharaoh’s army at the Red Sea.

In a scorching wilderness, the Lord appeared as water that poured from a rock. He saw the constant presence of God as a shade by day and a flame by night.

Exodus 13:21 NIV :  God is with you day and night “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.”

The many experiences of Moses display the interest that the Lord places in our protection and guidance as we travel physically and spiritually on our Christian journey . You too can be at peace knowing you serve the God of Moses.

Philippians 4:7 NIV :  Jesus will work things out “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

As you put your travel itinerary together for your vacation you may get anxious wondering if everything will work out. You may start to think about how the weather may affect your plans or other little glitches that may come up.

As you think about these glitches and come up with contingency plans just allow the peace of the Lord to saturate you. Bask in the thought that you serve an all-knowing God who will work things out for you.

There are many verses in the Bible that look at protection while traveling. Some of them provide comfort, others may be used as prayers, and some outline the protection and guidance that the Lord provides while you travel or enjoy a vacation.

Traveling is ubiquitous in our lives. From day to day work commutes to going on a trip or vacation with our family or friends, we are constantly traveling. And we thank God that traveling has also been made easy. We can turn to many modes of transportation to bring us to our desired destinations. However, traveling still remains a stressful activity. We worry about safety, the sudden change in weather, missed flights, or lost luggage. The list of what can go wrong while traveling is endless and daunting. How and what can we do to deal when such a situation arises? We can turn to our God and say a quick prayer for safe travel.

Biblical characters like Noah ( Genesis 7:1-24 ), Abraham ( Genesis 12:1-20 , Genesis 13:1-18 ), and Moses ( Exodus 4:18-31 ) have also embarked on several epic journeys. They would have fervently prayed for a safe journey and blessings. Similarly, we should also pray each time we go on a trip. I personally believe that prayer for safe travel is a powerful thing to do before any trip. By praying, we are inviting God and trusting Him that He will get us to our destination, safe and sound. Here are some short prayers for travel that we can pray before traveling.

1. A Short Prayer for Safe Travel

Here is a short prayer for safe travel that you can say right before your trip.

Let no harm come upon me during my trip and cover me under Your mighty wings. As I step out and start on my journey, I will choose to trust you and not give in to fear. Help me get to my destination and get home safely. Help me to experience Your greatness and love during this trip so that I may draw even closer to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Psalm 121:7-8 The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

Does God want us to travel the world?

To answer this question simply, yes, God does want us to travel the world.

God calls some of us to travel the world , just like he did in the Bible (Jesus’s disciples, Abram, the exodus of the Israelites, etc.).

Furthermore, there is no doubt that we delight in God when we delight in God’s creation .

This verse reminds us that as believers in Christ, we are all travelers on a journey towards our eternal home. It emphasizes the importance of faith over sight, and encourages us to look forward with confidence to the day when we will be at home with the Lord.

What does the Bible say about traveling?

The Bible has several passages and stories that mention traveling, journeys, and the significance of such experiences. Traveling plays a prominent role in the lives of many biblical figures, and it is often used as a metaphor for spiritual growth, the pilgrimage of life, and the pursuit of God’s purpose. Let’s explore some of the key themes related to traveling in the Bible:

1. Journeys of Faith

Throughout the Bible, we encounter numerous stories of individuals embarking on journeys of faith. One of the most well-known examples is the journey of Abraham. In Genesis 12:1-4, God instructs Abraham to leave his country, his people, and his father’s household and go to the land that God would show him. Abraham demonstrates his obedience and faith by setting out on this journey, trusting in God’s guidance and promises.

2. Pilgrimages and Spiritual Growth

The concept of pilgrimage is prevalent in the Bible, symbolizing the spiritual journey of believers seeking a deeper connection with God. One notable instance is the annual pilgrimage to Jerusalem for the Jewish festivals, as prescribed in Deuteronomy 16:16. The act of traveling to the holy city was not only a physical journey but also a spiritual one, as the people sought to draw near to God through worship and sacrifice.

3. Trust in God’s Guidance

A recurring theme in the Bible is the assurance of God’s guidance during journeys. Proverbs 3:5-6 emphasizes this:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

This verse encourages believers to rely on God’s wisdom and direction rather than relying solely on their own understanding when navigating life’s journeys.

4. The Wilderness Journey

The Israelites’ forty-year journey through the wilderness is a significant narrative in the Bible. After being freed from slavery in Egypt, they wander in the desert, learning valuable lessons about God’s provision, faithfulness, and the importance of obedience. This period of wandering served as a time of refining and testing for the Israelites, shaping them into a people who would trust and obey God.

5. The Great Commission

In the New Testament, Jesus gives his disciples what is known as the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This commission sends the disciples on a mission to travel to different parts of the world, spreading the gospel and making disciples—a journey of faith and obedience to Christ’s command.

6. Learning through Travel

In the Bible, journeys are often seen as opportunities for learning and personal growth. The story of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35) illustrates this beautifully. After Jesus’ crucifixion, two followers are walking to Emmaus, feeling disillusioned and downhearted. Along the way, they encounter the resurrected Jesus, though they do not recognize him at first. Jesus engages them in conversation, explaining the scriptures and revealing the fulfillment of prophecies concerning himself. This journey becomes a profound learning experience for the disciples, opening their eyes to the truth of the gospel.

7. Journey of Transformation

Traveling can also symbolize a journey of transformation. In Romans 12:2, believers are urged:

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

The process of transformation is likened to a journey where one’s mind and heart are renewed, aligning with God’s will and purpose.

8. Seeking God’s Presence

Psalm 84:5-7 expresses the desire of the faithful to journey to the presence of God:

“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. As they go through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.”

This psalm underscores the joy and blessings of seeking God’s presence through the pilgrimage to the holy city of Zion, a metaphorical representation of the dwelling place of God.

9. The Narrow Path

In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus speaks of the path of life as a journey with choices:

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”

This verse reminds us that the journey of faith may not always be easy, and there might be temptations to take the broad path. However, true discipleship requires commitment and walking the narrow path, which leads to life and ultimately to God.

10. Eternal Homecoming

Hebrews 11:13-16 speaks of the faith of many Old Testament figures who journeyed through life:

“These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.”

This passage highlights the idea that our earthly lives are like a journey, and as believers, we look forward to the ultimate homecoming in the heavenly city prepared by God.

What is a short Bible verse about a journey?

One short Bible verse that talks about the journey is Psalm 119:105:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

This verse beautifully portrays the Bible as a guiding light for the journey of life. Just as a lamp illuminates the path in the darkness, the Word of God provides direction and wisdom to navigate through the challenges and uncertainties of life’s journey. It signifies the importance of seeking God’s guidance through His Word as we travel through the various paths of life.

Throughout the Bible, traveling is used as a powerful metaphor for various aspects of the human experience. From journeys of faith and pilgrimage to learning, transformation, and seeking God’s presence, these themes provide valuable insights into the spiritual significance of our earthly sojourn.

The Bible encourages us to trust in God’s guidance, walk the narrow path, and find joy in the pursuit of His purpose for our lives.

Moreover, the scriptures serve as a lamp, illuminating our way, as we journey through the ups and downs of life, seeking God’s presence, and ultimately anticipating our eternal homecoming.

Help us make wise choices and stay away from situations that may jeopardize our safety or well-being. Above all, I place my trust in You, knowing that You are our ultimate protector. Your love and grace are a shield around us, and I am reassured by Your promise to be with us wherever we go. May this journey be a time of joy, growth, and memorable experiences. I commit it into Your hands, trusting that Your divine protection will accompany us every step of the way.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen

For a Friend or Loved One Traveling

Bible verses about god's protection.

Traveling for the holidays can bring a lot of worry and anxiety. What if we break down? What if we get a flat tire? What if we get stranded outside of nowhere? What if we get lost? Even with all our modern conveniences like cell phones, GPS and services like Onstar, anxiety can still set in. Still, we need to trust above all else, that the Lord will keep us safe. Here are some verses to keep in mind when the worry and anxiety of traveling get to be too much.

My God is my rock. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. He is my refuge, my savior, the one who saves me from violence.  2 Samuel 22:3 (NLT)

He led me to a place of safety, he rescued me because he delights in me. 2 Samuel 22:20 (NLT)

Is it not my family that God has chosen? Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with me. His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail. He will ensure my safety and success. 2 Samuel 23:5 (NLT)

Having hope will give you courage. You will be protected and rest in safety.  Job 11:8 (NLT)

So the Lord provided someone to rescue the Israelites from the Arameans. Then Israel lived in safety again, as they had in former days. 2 Kings 13:5 (NLT)

We shall start out on our road trips like we do any other journey in life, trusting the Lord to lead us, guide us, and keep us safe. With him, we can never be lost, and we’ll always find our way back home.

One of my goals for this blog is to inspire new adventure. What really motivates me to travel is getting to know this world a little better and in turn, getting to know the one who created it a little better as well. When prepping for a trip, equipping yourself spiritually is just as important as equipping yourself with any knowledge or luggage. Of all the abundant travel resources out there, I’ve found that scripture is severely lacking from the list. To remedy that, here is my absolute favorite scripture for travel.

Psalm 119:19

I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!

The psalmist is not only referring to temporarily residing in a foreign country, but also temporarily residing on earth. When traveling, of course I resonate with the reference to sojourning in a foreign land. However, I really love this verse because it parallels traveling and the meaning of life. Just as I feel excitement and wonder from traveling in a foreign land, so should I enjoy life every day as I am just passing through.

Ephesians 1:4

Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.

Here, Paul is encouraging the church of Ephesus: God himself chose us before he even created the world! For me, the biggest draw to travel is seeing. I will never get tired of seeing a new sunset, city, or landscape. I can hardly grasp that before any of these amazing sights were even formed, God was thinking of me.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

God’s creation includes the humans He created in His image. After all, we are all just visitors blessed with the privilege of exploring this planet.

Psalm 139: 7

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?

Hint: nowhere. Even though the psalmist King David was forced to travel and hide for his life, he still marveled at the inescapable presence of God. While I actually want to wander and find hidden destinations, it’s comforting to know that there is nowhere I can go that God cannot.

All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

The gospel of John starts from the very beginning: God created. While abroad I easily get lost marveling at the genius of ancient architecture or the complexity of a modern cityscape. And yet human creation was made possible through God. My favorite travel moments are typically in nature, the ones that leave me in complete awe of the brilliance of God.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I was three months old the first time I rode a plane, not to mention that both of my parents were aviators- flying shouldn’t be on my list of fears. And it wasn’t, until an incredibly stormy landing on an incredibly small plane sometime in high school. You know it is bad when even the flight attendant looks terrified. Since finding Jesus, when things get turbulent I now look to this verse instead of my onboard stewards.

I hope that you carry these verses with you on your next adventure! If you have any to add, I would love to know your favorite scripture for travel in the comments.

4 Easy Prayers for Travel

Keep on working, great job!

I just love this blog post. I’m want to add Isaiah 43:18-19 “Do not remember the past events, pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert”. To me, this verse fosters a spirit of expectation (on the road and off), plus it’s such a visual representation/reminder of what He can do!

I love that Marissa! It really does foster a spirit of expectation and also adventure to trust where the Lord is leading.

Adriana J.C.

“So they [the children of Israel] took their journey from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.” Exodus‬ ‭13:20-22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This was during the first exodus when they fled from Egyptian bondage. God will always lead His children!

Amen! Great scripture to remember when traveling.

Don Wilhelm

Psalm 91 … “and He shall give his Angels charge over you, to guide you in all your paths.”

Amen! Thank you Don, great verse to add.

Jacquelyn Griffin

I like traveling and I have a passion for hiking! Hiking brings me into a closer relationship with Father God, the Lord Jesus, and my husband. It has been fun hiking with people from our church. I don’t have a favorite travel scripture, at this time; but my favorite hiking/travel hymn is “For the Beauty of the Earth”.

Thank you for sharing that Jacquelyn! I’ve never heard that hymn but I just looked it up and love it. Hiking is such an incredible way to worship!

While there are many verses on travel, my go to is Psalm 121 KJV

1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Thank you for sharing Tim! That is a great verse too.

Unconfined Ministries Global

Omg Iove this thread. I’m so glad that I came here. Such amazing blog post and awesome comments!! Yes Lord! Thank you!!! Even a Minister can use inspiration!

I’m so glad to hear that!

I love this so much! I’m about to start my journey in my tiny RV! I hope to grow in my relationship with Christ!!

That’s so exciting, Sabrina! Travel is seriously my favorite way to worship and get to know God better. I’m sure a road trip will bring you so much closer to Him. I’ll be praying for you on your new journey.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” This scripture saved me recently. I was ready to run out of fear back to the “Safety” of the U.S. due to a very bad allergic reaction I had in my new home in Mexico. Once I remembered this promise, I was relieved to realize God’s protection is here in Mexico too and I didn’t need to fear. This scripture has give much such relief and comfort.

Now that you say that, I do sometimes picture “home” as the safest place to be, but God and His divine protection are with us any where we go. What a great reminder!

Phillipians 4:6! Pray and repeat before take off- I love traveling but hate flying! Thank you for sharing!

Yes that’s a great one too! I feel the same, it’s a love-hate relationship with flying. Thank you for reading!

Thank you Cassey! Your blog helps me! ☺️ Stay good and healthy! 🪁🪁 May God always protect you and your family!

Thank you so much Jeimmie! The same to you and your family. <3

OUR GOD IS WITH US

7 Powerful Prayers for Travel

Do you have a journey coming up? We need God’s grace, mercy, and protection when we travel. So, whether you’re traveling for work or leisure, alone or as a family, these 7 Powerful prayers for travel will help you trust God on your journey.

Closed suitcase on the floor with a camera and shoes next to it

What the Bible says about traveling

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, the Bible calls us to “pray without ceasing”. That means we should pray before our journeys, during the journey, and even thank God for arriving safely.

“And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.” Exodus 13:21 (NKJV)

We see that when the Israelites were on the journey from slavery in Egypt to the promised land Canaan, God was right there with them.   God’s presence and protection are important when we travel.

When we pray to God, He will light up our paths and show us what to do, and guide us on where to go. During the day, the Israelites had a pillar of cloud, and at night, a pillar of fire. This shows us that God knows exactly what we need on our journey.

Prayers for travel safety

We can’t rely on an airline, the pilot, or the driver to make sure we reach our destinations safely. Our faith should be in the Almighty God.

These prayers for traveling safely are based on words from the Bible. Praying scripture is an effective way of praying so God hears and answers us.

“The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,” Deuteronomy 1:30
“The eyes of the Lord  are  in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good.” Proverbs 15:3

Our God is omnipresent. That means He is in all places at the same time. He already knows our destination when we travel. So, we pray asking Him to go before us and ensure where we’re headed is safe.

“ God, we thank you for the opportunity to travel. We know that you are the omnipresent God. Your eyes are in every place on earth. May You please go before us and keep us safe where we’re headed.

Knowing and believing You’re already where we’re going gives us peace and confidence that You will take care of us. Thank you for always watching over us and caring for us.

In Jesus’ name. Amen. “

“The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them.” Psalm 34:7
“For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you,’” Luke 4:10

In these encouraging Bible verses about protection, we learn that God’s angels will protect us. How amazing is that?

“Lord, you’ve promised us in Your Word that your angels guard, deliver and defend those who love and fear you. We thank you Father that you’ve sent your angels to rescue us and keep us safe.

As we travel, we ask that those angels would go with us on our journey and keep us from harm’s way. We have assurance and hope in your Word for it is living and active.

“Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble.”

Proverbs 3:23

“The name of the Lord  is  a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.”

Proverbs 18:10

“Today Father, we run to Your name because we believe it’s a strong tower. When we call upon the name of Jesus Christ, we know power is released in our lives and situations.

We’re asking in Jesus’s name for us to travel safely. May our foot not stumble. We ask that we would rely and depend on You for all our needs on this journey because You’re Jehovah Jireh our Provider.

Hold us safely in the palm of Your hands Lord. Strengthen us as we’ll be out of our usual routine. Some trust in horses and chariots but our trust is in the Almighty God in Heaven, our Redeemer, Savior and  friend.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue  which  rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This  is  the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness  is  from Me,” Says the Lord.”

Isaiah 54:17

“Fear not, for I  am  with you; Be not dismayed, for I  am  your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

A lot can happen when on the journey and that can make us scared. But God wants us to overcome fear and put our faith in Him. When traveling it’s good to pray for protection against the schemes and plans of the enemy.

“Lord, we know we have a real enemy who is out to steal our joy and peace, destroy our families and kill us. But we also serve the all-powerful Jehovah.

We pray that no weapon fashioned against us shall prosper, in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The devil has no power over me and us as a family. His evil plans to harm us will not succeed because we are protected by the Lord.

As we travel, we pray that we will enjoy the goodness of God in the land of the living for that is our heritage. We pray against any thoughts of fear on the journey. Fear of the unknown and fear of accidents or crashes are not going to have any room in our hearts and minds.

Rather we believe God will uphold us, strengthen us and help us on the way. We receive the amazing grace and peace of God to go with us on this journey.

Prayer for traveling mercies

Our God is merciful, gracious, and loving towards us as His children. When we travel, we should also remember to pray for travel mercies.

These Bible verses about mercy invite us to come to God’s throne in our times of need. God promises us that His goodness and mercy shall follow us always. This gives us confidence in our prayers.

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.” Psalm 23:6
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, Ephesians 2:4

“Heavenly Father, we pray to you because You’re rich in mercy. Thank you for showing us such great love, kindness, and compassion.

Guide us as we travel. We pray for your goodness and mercy to follow us on our journey. This is our time of need and we come to Your throne asking for travel mercies and grace.

“The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.” Psalm 121:7-8
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the Lord surrounds His people From this time forth and forever.” Psalm 125:2

When we Lord grants us His grace, we will be preserved. He will surround us with His love. Let’s pray.

“Lord, we honor You and exalt Your Holy name. As You grant us travel mercies, we thank You that You will preserve our lives as we go out of our home and come back again.

You are our sanctuary that we run to at all times. Surround us as Your children from this time forth and forever. You are our refugee and strength. We put our faith in Your power.

Prayer for traveling on the road

When you’re traveling on the road, you need focus and patience. Other drivers can tend to frustrate you and spoil your mood. When the journey is long, you need strength to keep going and wisdom to rest when you need to.

If you’re traveling on the road with young kids, you need to learn how to be patient because kids can’t stand being in the same space for long.  Let’s pray.

“God, we thank You for this journey on the road. We pray for Your grace to go with us.  Bless our driver Lord. Give the driver focus for the road ahead, wisdom, discernment, and strength to drive.

There are other drivers on the road who can frustrate us or slow us down. Lord, we ask for patience from You to be gentle in our responses and be loving as ambassadors of Christ.

We pray for our kids on the journey. Help us as their parents to be creative so that the journey on the road is not too long and boring for them. May we be able to plan for food and activities to keep them busy and engaged.

We’re trusting you O God that we will reach our destination safely.

Whether you’re traveling for summer, the holidays, to visit loved ones or for business, you need God to guide and guard you and your family. I hope these prayers for travel provided you with a good start to help you depend on God for your journey.

god help travel quotes

Use me, God. Show me how to take who I am, who I want to be, and what I can do, and use it for a purpose greater than myself.

O God, help me to win, but in thy wisdom if thou willest me not to win, then O God, make me a good loser.

Please, God. Help me. Take this pain away. Please fill this loneliness with your love. Help me, God, please, help me.

The true follower of Christ will not ask, "If I embrace this truth, what will it cost me?" Rather he will say, "This is truth. God help me to walk in it, let come what may!"

When we pray, we open the door for God to come into our problems and situations and work on them.

god help travel quotes

God help me if I ever do another movie with an explosion in it. If you see me in a movie where stuff is exploding you'll know I've lost all my money.

I didn't think that a career in theater was very realistic so I thought the only thing I could make money doing and still be somewhat artistic was, god help me, advertising.

You have need to pray to God, not only to help you in your troubles--but to help you in your blessings

Broken I run to you for your arms are open wide. I am weary but I know your touch restores my life.

Dear God, please help me to love and value myself, and treat myself with loving care. Please help me to know that I deserve happiness (as we all do), and that I have the right to change my life in healthful ways. Thank you for supporting me as I stand in my power, strength, and love in my relationships and in my career, and for helping others to accept and support the changes that I need to make.

No matter what you’re going through there's no pit so deep that God can’t reach in and get you out.

Oh Lord, may I be directed what to do and what to leave undone.

Living with faith and courage is something that life requires of each of us. Never, absolutely never, give up! Never give in no matter what! Fight it through! And I promise you something with all of my heart-God will help you.

The power of God is available to you today to help you do whatever you need to do and with a smile on your face!

Lord, bless our week. Help us to take all the necessary risks to become the person we always wanted to be.

Thy way, not mine, O Lord, however dark it be; lead me by thine own hand; choose out the path for me.

You don't need everyone to help you. You just need one touch of favor, and you will accomplish in a split second what could have taken your whole lifetime.

Lord, help us to live the virtue of generosity, to love without limits.

Be patient with yourself. Perfection comes not in this life, but in the next life. Don't demand things that are unreasonable, but demand of yourself improvement. As you let the Lord help you through that, He will make the difference.

Viewers all over the world, whatever medium you are using to view us, on Emmanuel TV, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, I command a new dream to come true, in Jesus' name!

Billy Graham quote: The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of...

The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, 'O God, forgive me,' or 'Help me.'

God save us from living in comfort while sinners are sinking into hell!

Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?

I'm just a simple man standing alone with my old brushes, asking God for inspiration.

Dennis Quaid dismisses age gap with wife: ‘I just don’t notice it’

Dennis Quaid spoke with Fox News Digital about the nearly 40-year age gap with his wife, Laura Savoie, and why he doesn’t pay it any mind.

Dennis Quaid doesn’t care what anyone thinks about the age difference between himself and his wife, Laura Savoie.

"I haven't spoken out about the age difference of my wife. Other people have. But…I really don't think about it," the actor told Fox News Digital.

He continued, "She's got so much going on that, you know, I just don't notice it. She's just, she's the light of my life."

"I wasn’t looking for it, and she came along, and it's God put us together," he added.

DENNIS QUAID, 66, AND LAURA SAVOIE, 27, CREDIT CHRISTIAN FAITH TO BEING THEIR ‘GREATEST SOURCE OF STRENGTH’

The couple married in June 2020 in Santa Barbara, California, after meeting a year earlier at a business event while she was working toward her second master’s degree at the Texas McCombs School of Business, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Before their marriage, Quaid spoke about their relationship in 2019 with The Guardian.

"No, it really doesn’t bother us," he said of public criticism of their age gap. "Everyone comes from the perspective of their own life and so I can’t comment on the way they feel; I can’t even get angry."

"I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me," Quaid continued. "I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed.

"You have no control over who you fall in love with," he added. "I don’t fall in love easily. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that. I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life."

He also highlighted the importance of faith in their marriage.

Last year, Quaid told "Extra," "God is in my wife and I's relationship, and it's another thing that I never really had before."

"She and I have such a beautiful relationship, and we pray together," he added.

Quaid and Savoie produced his new film, "The Long Game," through their production company, Bonniedale. Based on a true story and the book "Mustang Miracle" by Humberto G. Garcia, Quaid stars alongside Jay Hernandez in the story of a group of young Mexican-American teenagers who work as caddies at a golf course and decide to take up the game themselves, despite racial barriers preventing them from playing at most places, including the country club where they worked.

In addition to keeping his marriage strong, Quaid also credits his faith for his ongoing sobriety.

Last year, he told People magazine that he had a "white light" moment, where he knew he needed to turn his life around.

"I remember going home and having kind of a white light experience that I saw myself either dead or in jail or losing everything I had, and I didn't want that," Quaid told the outlet.

Now, as he told Fox News Digital, "These days, it's a breeze," though he admitted there were about four years of "gritting my teeth."

"And then it just got [to the point] of finding something to fill that hole. For me, that's God, [He] fills that hole. There's life after everything. These days I’m more thankful than anything else and just enjoying every day," he said, adding with a laugh, "Still here!"

Quaid currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee, with Savoie, and he has fallen in love with the city.

"I love it. I really just love it there," Quaid said. "It might have been my favorite place I think I’ve lived. It's such a collegial place to be. The people there, your neighbors and artists, it just feels like it's going on there."

He added, "It reminds me of Austin [Texas], like 20 years ago in some ways. And then of course, its own town. It’s just beautiful."
