Five Things to Know About the CME Group Tour Championship

Rose Zhang

The final event of the 2023 regular season is here: the CME Group Tour Championship. The top 60 players in the Race to the CME Globe will tee off at Tiburón Golf Club this week to compete for a trophy, the coveted $2 million winner’s check and a bevy of end-of-season awards.

A Field to Remember

Only the best of the best in the world are admitted into the CME Group Tour Championship field, and while every year boasts elevated competition, this year’s attendees are truly extraordinary. All major champions – Lilia Vu (The Chevron Championship and AIG Women’s Open), Ruoning Yin (KPMG Women’s PGA Championship), Allisen Corpuz (U.S. Women’s Open) and Celine Boutier (The Amundi Evian Championship) – are in the field as well as 18 additional winners from the 2023 season. Vu,  who recently returned to No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings , and Boutier are this year’s headliners, each claiming four victories in 2023 including their major wins. In total, the 60-player field claims a whopping 163 career LPGA victories – 27 of which are major titles. Four former CME Group Tour champions are also in the field: Charley Hull (2016), Ariya Jutanugarn (2017), Jin Young Ko (2020, 2021) and Sei Young Kim (2019).

Award Season

With the season-ending tournament also comes the season-long awards, three of which have already been decided. Vu  clinched the Rolex ANNIKA Major Award  with her second major victory at the AIG Women’s Open, Hae Ran Ryu  locked up the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year Award  after a tie for 12th at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican last week and Angel Yin has  claimed the $1 million prize from the Aon Risk Reward Challenge . But there are still three awards up for grabs: the money title, the Vare Trophy and the Rolex Player of the Year award. With a $2 million winner’s check up for grabs, the top 19 players on the official money list have a shot at winning the money title. Vu currently leads the Tour with $3,252,303 in earnings. Awarded annually to the player with the lowest scoring average on Tour, the Vare Trophy is being tightly contested by Atthaya Thitikul and Hyo Joo Kim. Thitikul has a very slim lead of just 0.013 stokes, meaning Kim would need to shoot just one to two strokes better than Thitikul this week. After her win at The ANNIKA, Vu has taken a 27-point lead in the Rolex Player of the Year race over Celine Boutier, meaning Boutier would need to win and Vu would have to finish eighth place or worse for Boutier to earn the honor. In fact, Vu just needs a seventh-place finish or better to clinch the award outright – not a very tall task for someone coming off their fourth win of the season.

Making their Debut

Nine players will be making their CME Group Tour Championship debuts this week and there’s hardly been a more accomplished group of first-timers at Tiburón Golf Club. Of the nine, seven became Rolex First-Time Winners this season: Linn Grant (Dana Open), Grace Kim (LOTTE Championship presented by Hoakalei), Alexa Pano (ISPS Handa World Invitational), Ryu (Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G), Chanettee Wannasaen (Portland Classic), Yin (DIO Implant LA Open, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship) and Rose Zhang (Mizuho Americas Open). It’s hard to pick just one headliner from such a standout crew. Yin is not only a major champion, but also became just the second player from the People’s Republic of China to ascend to No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and is currently ranked No. 2. Having clinched Rookie of the Year honors, Ryu is an obvious name to look out for on the leaderboard. And, of course, young superstar Zhang is unforgettable after her historic win in her professional debut. The final two players also making their CME Group Tour Championship debuts are Stephanie Kyriacou and Yuna Nishimura.

Last Minute Entries

With a $7 million purse, just getting into the CME Group Tour Championship is a win in and of itself, and earning a berth in the season-ending event often comes down to the final putts on Sunday at The ANNIKA. It certainly wasn’t over until the final putts dropped for Kyriacou and Patty Tavatanakit whose finishes at The ANNIKA helped them jump inside the top 60. Kyriacou started last week at No. 71 in the Race to the CME Globe, but an impressive T5 result boosted her to 56th, allowing her to make her debut at the season finale. Meanwhile, Tavatanakit was sitting just outside the number at 61st. The 24-year-old just needed a little boost to move up in the standings, but ever the over-achiever, Tavatanakit carded a T15 result to jump to No. 57 in the rankings. After such exhilarating finishes under intense pressure last week, Kyriacou and Tavatanakit are more than ready to handle the stress of competing for a $2 million winner’s check. Plus, they’ve got some good momentum going that they can carry with them on the short trip from Belleair down to Naples.

ESPN+ Coverage

For the first time,  ESPN+ will provide exclusive coverage of the CME Group Tour Championship  with a live featured groups stream starting on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. Eastern time. The groups featured on the ESPN+ stream will be Andrea Lee/Madelene Sagstrom, Danielle Kang/Perrine Delacour, Cheyenne Knight/Rose Zhang and Nelly Korda/Yuka Saso. Of the eight, seven are LPGA Tour winners, five are Olympians and three are major champions. ESPN+ will provide 30 hours of coverage over four rounds of competition, allowing fans to follow every shot of the featured groups. This is the second consecutive year ESPN+ has streamed exclusive coverage of an LPGA Tour event. The first event was the 2022 Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G followed by the 2022 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G.

Genially in a nutshell

How do I make a presentation interactive and how does Genially work? Find the answers to all of your slide-related questions here!

What’s an interactive presentation?

Interactive slides contain clickable hotspots, links, buttons, and animations that are activated at the touch of a button. Instead of reading or watching passively, your audience can actively interact with the content.

Genially’s interaction presentation software allows you to combine text, photos, video clips, audio and other content in one deck. It’s a great way to condense more information into fewer slides.

If you’re a teacher, you can share multiple materials in one single learning resource. Students can create their own projects using digital media and online maps. For business or training, try embedding spreadsheet data, PDFs, and online content directly in your slides.

An interactive slide deck is more user-friendly than a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or Google Slides document. That’s because you can break information down into chunks with pop-ups, labels, voiceovers and annotated infographics.

The other benefit of interactive content is increased engagement. It’s easier to keep your audience’s attention when they’re actively participating. Try Genially’s presentation software and free slideshow maker to see how it’s better than other presentation websites. You won’t go back to standard presentation apps!

How do you make a clickable slide?

The best way to make slides clickable is to use Genially’s free interactive presentation program. Design your slide then apply an interaction. In a couple of clicks, you can add popup windows, hyperlinks, close-up images, games, animations, multimedia and other content.

Choose from the library of hotspot buttons and icons to show people what to click on. Go to Presenter View to get a preview and see how your content will appear to your audience.

How do I create presentations that look professional?

You’ve got a deadline looming and you’re staring at the screen with a blank presentation. We’ve all been there! Starting a presentation design from scratch is tricky, especially if you’re short on time.

Genially’s free online presentation maker has over 2000 ready-to-use templates for professional slide presentations, photos slideshows, and more. Each slide design has been created by our team of top graphic designers. No need to worry about fonts, centering images, or designing a matching color scheme. It’s all done for you.

Start by browsing our layouts and themes for education, business and then customize with your own text and images.

How do I share or download my slides?

Because Genially is a cloud based presentation software, you can simply share the link to your slides. Like other online presentation tools, there are no files to download or store on your computer. Everything is saved online.

When you publish your slide deck, it gets its own unique url, just like a website. Share the link with others to let them explore the content in their own time. If you’re presenting live, just click the Present button.

You can also embed your presentation on your website, company wiki, or social media. Genially is compatible with WordPress, Moodle, Google Classroom, and other platforms. If you use an LMS, you can also download your interactive design slides in SCORM format.

For slideshow videos and slideshows with music, share online or download as an MP4 video. Check out our free slideshow templates for ideas.

Can I make a free presentation in Genially?

You bet! Genially is an easy-to-use slide maker, with a free version and paid plans. The free plan allows you to create unlimited slides with interactions and animations. Subscribe to one of our paid plans for more advanced features.

The 10 Best Presentation Tools for Students in 2023

online presentation for students

Presentation tools for students have come a long way.

Students have access to all sorts of digital presentation tools, from legacy slide-based tools like PowerPoint to truly inventive and experimental new formats that incorporate live and prerecorded video and audio. The rise in virtual, hybrid, and flipped classrooms has made the need for education-focused online presentation tools for students all the greater.

Wondering which tools will help your students create the best presentations? We’ve shown you tools before, like 20 classroom technology tools you may not know , but many of those were teacher-focused. Here are 10 of the best student presentation tools your kiddos can use in 2023. And listen to this episode of EdTech Heroes with Sultan Rana to see how you can revolutionize presentations for students this year!

Importance of students learning to use a range of presentation tech tools 🎬

Before we get into this list, it’s fair to ask: Is it really all that important for students to get comfortable using technology-based presentation tools? 🤔

We believe the answer is an emphatic “Yes!”

The modern world we live in already depends on all sorts of tech and that dependence will only increase. Today’s students are tomorrow’s adults, and it’s vital they develop media literacy skills now. This is behind the push for digital citizenship , or teaching children to use tech safely and responsibly so they can effectively participate in society in the future.

Many students are already comfortable navigating smartphone apps, video games, smart TVs, and social media. But throw a PowerPoint or other business tool in front of them, and it’s another story. They aren’t technology averse. But neither are they automatically comfortable with all the different software and user interfaces that they’ll encounter in the professional and business world.

As the world grows more technologically complex 🤖, the professionals of tomorrow need exposure today to the language of technology.

By engaging with a range of presentation tools — along with edtech tools like Google Classroom and other LMS platforms — students gain a more well-rounded understanding of how to interact with productivity-oriented tech. They learn how to communicate their ideas and collaborate across physical and virtual spaces with ease.

With that question answered, let’s jump into the top 10 student presentation tools that will support your students’ tech skills and overall growth.

1. Screencastify Submit

Screencastify Submit does many things. It allows teachers to create presentation assignments for students. It also allows students to easily record and submit these short video assignments on any device. It’s a great way to practice giving live presentations without the pressure of an audience, plus it helps students gain skills with talking and presenting on camera. 🎥

Another advantage for students: Students can practice their presentation skills and wait to submit until they’ve recorded their favorite take.

Screencastify Submit is simple because it’s designed to be a secure, closed system between teachers and students. However, the broader Screencastify suite — one of the top Google Chrome extensions for educators and students — has plenty of integrations with popular LMSes and edtech platforms.

2. PowerPoint and Google Slides

Two of the classic slide-building apps, PowerPoint and Google Slides feel very traditional compared to many of the other tools listed here. Still, both apps are easy introductions to the concept of creating basic 2D designs and visually appealing presentations. PowerPoint Presentations and Google Slides allow students to create slideshow content with transitions, animations, multiple slide layouts, and more.

These presentation software solutions help students prioritize the information that’s most useful to their audience and hone the ability to present that material in a visually engaging way. They can also be used in conjunction with screencasting or screen sharing to present in a more live or interactive manner.

These apps are both widespread and integrate seamlessly with a variety of tools. For Apple users, Keynote is another option in this same style, but it’s limited to only macOS and iOS, making it less widely adopted.

Note that Google Slides is free for everyone with a Gmail account, but PowerPoint requires an individual subscription or a school-wide license.

3. Prezi Next

The original Prezi was like a cooler, snappier version of PowerPoint. It did away with the feeling that every slide was a static rectangular image and let users create presentations that felt more like unique little worlds 🌍  than like conference room snooze-fests 😴 .

Unfortunately, it was built on Adobe Flash, which is dead and gone .

Prezi Next is the new generation of Prezi, built fresh in HTML5. It keeps the feel of the original and enables students to produce creative, imaginative presentations full of both whimsy and functionality. Templates in Prezi Next allow students to be creative, detailed, and look great in the process.

Prezi also integrates with major video conferencing apps like Google Meet and Zoom, allowing students to present their Prezi live.

4. Haiku Deck

Haiku Deck is another slide-based presentation app. It’s entirely cloud-based, meaning you can access Haiku Deck from the web. The big differentiator with Haiku Deck is its automated image search. The app intelligently analyzes the text that your students add to their slides, then it suggests photos and slide designs that make sense for that text.

Haiku Deck gives users access to over 40 million royalty-free images (meaning no more watermarks or pixelated backgrounds) and includes dozens of themes designed by pros, complete with complementary fonts picked out for each one.

Haiku Deck is mostly a standalone tool. So, while you don’t get deep integrations with other tools, you might not really need them.

5. Pear Deck

Before they ever explain what Pear Deck is, the team behind Pear Deck points to research showing that learning has both social, emotional and academic components and goes into great detail about the research-backed instructional strategies that the platform supports.

So, this tool comes from a team that’s dedicated to improving educational outcomes for all kinds of learners. But what does it do, exactly?

Essentially, Pear Deck operates as an add-on to Google Slides or PowerPoint and allows you to turn those static presentation tools into dynamic, interactive educational experiences. You can embed quizzes, tutorials, and other interactive content and see student responses in real time.

Although it’s aimed at teachers, it can be used by students to enhance their own presentations with engaging content like Q&A or audio and video, and gives them more creative freedom.

Sutori is a tool that’s purpose built to help students create timelines and roadmaps and tell stories. It’s simple and streamlined, making it easy for students of all ages to use. Students can even embed media on their Sutori timelines, and Sutori is easy to use online and via remote learning.

Sutori’s timeline focus makes it perfect for social studies or history and any other linear, time-based lessons. The company also lists use cases for English, Language, Arts, and STEM teachers. It’s a great tool for fostering multimedia collaboration, critical thinking (via both primary and secondary sources), and research skills.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words 📸, and if that’s true, how much more is an infographic worth? A lot, when it comes to the classroom. Infographics are great storytelling tools, not to mention visual aids. The trouble is that making great infographics from scratch have required graphic design skills🧑‍💻  — until tools like Easelly.

Easelly lets anyone make quality infographics in a wide range of styles. Students can better visualize data and content, which is great both for their own critical thinking and logic skills as well as their public presentation skills.

Easelly includes numerous templates that make it easy to transform content from dry text and statistics into beautiful infographics.

Easelly doesn’t directly integrate with other tools, but infographics created in Easelly can easily (hence the name) be exported to other tools to be shared or presented.

8. Glogster

Glogster is a tool for creating multimedia posters that can include 3D elements. Students can embed a wide range of media into a Glogster, including screencast videos, graphics, images, audio, and even 3D and VR objects.

Glogster is somewhat like an oversized poster board to make a class project or report, but also interactive and zoomable. It’s a digital canvas that makes just about anything visual possible, all within one space.

Students can practice their visual storytelling skills and get comfortable navigating and embedding multiple media types with Glogster.

9. VoiceThread

VoiceThread is a unique tool that lets users collaborate and discuss just about anything: videos, images, documents and more using features like annotations, highlights, pausing, zooming. It’s essentially a media-focused video chat tool.

In the K-12 landscape, VoiceThread is great for students who want to share a specific media file with others and collaborate either in discussion or in a Q&A after a presentation. Viewers can add video comments and questions directly to a presentation, giving a more personal level of engagement especially for fully remote classrooms. Students can develop great conversational and presentation skills using VoiceThread, too.

Miro is a visual collaboration tool designed primarily for teams to get work done. In other words, it’s a business-focused digital whiteboard tool that has a lot of value for classrooms too.

Students (and teachers) can use it for idea mapping 🗺, brainstorming, creating workflows or diagrams, and all sorts of other visual collaboration and presentation needs.

It’s great for group projects where students might want to get a bunch of ideas mapped out prior to creating their polished presentation in another tool. Miro also has some effective templates that can help students work quickly.

Because it’s a business tool, Miro has all kinds of integrations with all the top business apps. Some of these are useful in education, such as Zoom, Google drive, and Microsoft Teams integrations.

Presentations usually give a deeper insight to what the topic is. It’s not surprising that a short outline with a picture gives a better understanding of the topic. Over many years the best formula for creating presentations remains unchanged: visuality + original content. Being a true follower of Canvas and Unplag, I cannot but say about the high quality of these tools. With them, I improved my time-managing skills and also upgraded my creative mind. Canva is on the top of all the tools for creating beautiful design: colours, prints, patterns – everything is captivating. What I do about Unplag is its speed and accuracy. In a second it identifies academic lapses such as wrong formatted citations or references. It’s more than cool.

First off I want to say superb blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing. I’ve had a tough time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out. I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Appreciate it!

Online Student Presentations

There are a number of reasons why faculty may want to move student class presentations to an online environment – maybe you have been asked to transition your regular “traditional” class to an online format (as DKU faculty have been asked to do this spring ). Or maybe you would like to free up in-class time for discussion or other activities, while still wanting students to have the opportunity to present about their work. There are a number of possible approaches, depending on your needs.

First, determine if you want or need students to do “live” (synchronous) presentations, attended by you and their peers. If not, students could record their presentations, which you and their peers could watch at your own pace (asynchronously) and then discuss.

Live presentations

One method for presenting “live” is Zoom meetings . Students can share their screen and a video of themselves talking; attendees can view and hear, and ask questions. One consideration is that presenter and attendees need stable, high-speed internet connections for this to be most effective. In addition, for all to attend, time zones where attendees and presenter are located must be conducive to attendance. Other than that, presentation format and structure can likely be identical or nearly identical to what students would have done in class.

Another alternative for live presentations is to use the Live Streaming function of Duke Capture (Panopto), if the presentation is happening in a room on Duke campus which is set up for Panopto. This could work, for example, if some attendees/classmates are meeting at Duke, and others are watching from a different location.

Recorded presentations

If live presentations aren’t ideal for some reason, including internet capabilities, time zones, the nature of the presentation, or the length of the desired presentation, students can record their presentation and post it online for asynchronous viewing. You can provide guidelines for the presentation just as you would for “in-class” presentations, including length, requirements for accompanying visuals, etc.

Presentation recording can be done with Zoom , by having the presenter start a meeting (students can use their personal Zoom meeting room), turn on video, share the appropriate visuals such as slides or a website that accompanies their presentation, then start recording immediately before beginning their presentation. When the recording is complete, students can post the link to the recording wherever required by the professor.

Students could also record their presentation in any other way that works for them, such as with their cell phone or webcam on a tripod, and then post the resulting video within their course Sakai site using WarpWire (WarpWire is a tool for video hosting at Duke, which is integrated into Sakai and also available separately).

Students can be asked to view others’ presentations before any live class meeting, so the presentations can be discussed during the live meeting. You may ask students to post comments about their peers’ work in a discussion forum as they watch the recording, or save comments for live discussion (or both). You may choose to provide a rubric or other peer evaluation tool, if you have peer evaluation as a part of the assignment’s assessment plan.

An option if you want students to comment on their peers’ work is to have students post their presentation recordings in VoiceThread , which allows for text, audio and video commenting on posted media. Keep in mind that you, as the instructor, will probably want to watch or at least spot check the posts to get a sense of the comments – make sure you allow yourself time for this.

If students are producing a creative work of some type and presenting on that, VoiceThread can also be a way for students to comment on their OWN presentation – they can record their work, post to VoiceThread, and then append comments explaining their creative choices to you and to their peers. Alternatively if students must create a poster and present that, the poster can be exported from the design software as a pdf and posted for viewing, then live or asynchronous discussion can happen after that.

However you plan to do student presentations online, this can be a rich learning activity for presenters and their peers. Contact Duke Learning Innovation if you’d like a consultation about your particular course plans.

Making study more human: how online education is creating powerful spaces for learning

Tertiary education can challenge our mental health and wellbeing, but online university study programs are transforming the way students are supported

Everyone learns differently. But whether we’re a bookish student or more hands-on and interactive, one thing is always true: we do better with support.

Image of Dr Lilani Arulkadacham

A core theme of the research conducted at Monash University’s Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health is what it calls “developing well”. Recognising the complexity of learning experiences, the institute applies advanced genetics, developmental neuroscience and psychological methods to better understand our brains.

Monash’s School of Psychological Sciences applies this knowledge to develop tech innovations that promote education, resilience and mental wellbeing for their students.

Dr Lilani Arulkadacham, is the acting Director of Online Education with the School of Psychological Sciences at Monash University, and is an expert in online learning. She knows the potential such an approach has to encourage students from every background to thrive.

We all learn in complex, dynamic ways

Human learning is complex. “It’s a dynamic process involving interactions between perception, attention, memory, reinforcement and adaptation,” Arulkadacham says.

“Essentially, humans learn by taking in information from their surroundings and we remember it by repeating it or thinking about it. When we need to, we can remember what we’ve learned in the past and use it in different contexts and situations. So, learning is a cycle where we keep building on what we know to get better at things.”

In a university setting, she says, students are able to learn in different ways, through reading, group and solo projects, and feedback from teachers. But an online learning environment goes even further, offering the potential for teaching staff to respond to individual needs and break down access barriers by creating flexible spaces for students juggling time and geographical constraints, and other commitments.

The right support has the power to transform learning

Tertiary students are in the midst of a serious mental health challenge. As a cohort, they experience greater levels of mental distress than the general population and their peers who are not in tertiary education. Arulkadacham says a supportive environment that prioritises health and wellbeing has a positive impact on everything from a student’s academic confidence to the bonds they form.

“We know that students who experience high levels of university support experience lower levels of psychological distress,” she says. “[Support] can transform a student’s learning experience by reducing stress, anxiety. Students can focus better on their studies and engage more actively in class discussions.”

At Monash, Arulkadacham says, support includes easy access to resources such as counselling services and wellness programs, which can provide tools to manage stress and stop students feeling overwhelmed. “As a result, [students are] more resilient, they’re more productive, they’re motivated, which leads to improved academic performance and overall satisfaction with their learning journey.”

Online study is flexible enough to support every student

Monash University offers fully online study programs across a range of disciplines, including business, computer science, health and psychology.

Arulkadacham says that as a result, online learning environments can open new doors for those who might not previously have had access to higher education. “Students can really learn at their own pace from anywhere,” she says. “It presents an alternative to face-to-face learning by offering flexibility and accessibility, so it allows students to access course materials at their convenience, enabling students to balance their education with other commitments – work, family responsibilities.”

Having that level of flexibility has other benefits. “It cultivates self-discipline, and autonomy, preparing students for success both academically and professionally,” she says. “The autonomy and continuous access to resources can really empower students to take ownership of their education and pursue their learning goals.”

Online courses can improve access to tertiary education for students from diverse backgrounds and locations.

“That inclusivity promotes diversity in our programs. It allows individuals who may not have access to traditional educational institutions to pursue their studies – and their dreams.”

Despite the distance, online students can be equally supported

“There may be perceptions that online study can be a lonely experience,” Arulkadacham says. “We really challenge that.”

But it’s not without its difficulties, and she stresses the importance of recognising that online study is different to being on campus. “On campus, you do have access to physical mental health support. You can easily turn to a peer in class if there’s something on your mind. For our online tertiary students, there may be the added stress of juggling other roles.”

To overcome these challenges, Monash has created a supportive environment specifically for online education, rather than trying to simply mimic the on-campus experience. “In an online setting, course administrators need to be mindful of ensuring that students can easily access mental health resources,” Arulkadacham says.

Arulkadacham’s own research has shown – “time and again” – that one of the greatest predictors of student success is the opportunity to practise self-care. “So, with the help of our students and some of our practising therapists, is an online self-care toolbox for our students. Something that students can turn to whenever they feel like they need some mental help or assistance.”

Within the toolbox are various strategies, including mindfulness and breathing techniques, all guided by mental health professionals and designed for students studying online.

“Then, they can take it out into the real world. It’s helping them with that lifelong learning journey that we want to instill in them.”

Lifelong learning starts with Monash University; find your next challenge with an industry-leading online study program.

3 Steps for Creating Video Projects With Elementary Students

A straightforward plan for facilitating multimedia projects helps ensure collaborative learning and a fun classroom experience.

Students record each other on a tablet

Having elementary students make their own videos instead of consuming content made by someone else sounds like a highly engaging educational experience. But if you’ve ever tried to get 25 third graders to use a video editing software platform that they’ve never seen before, it can get really frustrating really fast. It’s easy for the lesson to become entirely centered around how to use the software without any subject-area content learning.

Through years of trial and error with K–6 students, I’ve developed three guiding concepts for elementary video projects so that teachers and students have a good experience.

1. Keep it social

If students are only able to get technical assistance from me, they’ll wait around and often get frustrated and off task. It’s always good when students can get assistance from each other and get a lot more done.

No teacher help for the first five minutes: Often when starting a video project, I go over basic instructions with the whole class, then tell them I will not be helping anyone for the first five minutes. They quickly find help from others, and generally the collective knowledge of the class is enough to move everyone forward.

Help two others, then they help two others, and so on: To avoid the possibility of one or two students helping everyone and not getting their own work done, I encourage all of my students to commit to helping two other people. If they help those two people in a way that those two really know what to do, pretty soon the multiplicative effect takes care of the whole room. Whenever I help someone, the expectation is that they would help the next person with the same issue.

I only do what only I can do: When it comes to giving technical assistance, there are certain issues that may require a teacher (log-in questions, setup, etc.). I try to make sure that I leave myself available for those issues while having students help each other with everything else. When a student asks me a question, I’ll often ask the class, “Who knows how to ____ and is willing to help ____?” This allows the class to keep moving forward, and I am focused on the specific issues that only I will be able to resolve.

2. Keep it Short and Simple

The first time that students are working with a software platform, I start with a simple and short project. You can simplify projects by setting a very low time limit (30 seconds) or having students complete a project that they’ve already started. For instance, students might create a soundtrack for a video clip I give them or add a video clip to a musical selection I provided. Interactive learning platforms like WeVideo (pricing varies by subscription level) offer a comprehensive library of video and audio clips that makes video creation easy for students.

Students can also combine smaller projects into larger pieces. I often have pairs of students record themselves writing out single lines of the lyrics of a song. These lines can be combined into a quick lyric video of the entire song.

3. Make it shareable

One of the most powerful parts of video creation is the ease of sharing it with others. Students love to share their work and look at the work their peers made. Sharing the video also gives students motivation to complete the work quickly and efficiently so that they will be able to put it up for others to see and watch what their friends made.

Interactive platforms give you what you need: Resources like Seesaw (there’s a free trial for teachers), Flip , and ClassDojo have security features that allow only parents to view the videos as well as comment approval so that teachers can monitor comments before others can see them.

Provide QR codes in hallways or send them home: In my experience, it has worked well to combine “hard copy” art such as an album cover or poster with a QR code link to the video that can either be sent home or put up in school hallways.

Exemplars for future students: Once a video project is done, it’s great to have student-created exemplars to show to classes in the future. Students always learn from seeing other students’ work, and each year the quality continues to rise.

Feature videos in assemblies: Premiering videos is a great way to feature students in whole school assemblies. The setup and physical preparation are much less involved than a live performance, and it gives students a chance to show their best work without being nervous that they will freeze onstage.

Examples in PRACTICE

I’ve put these principles into action in a few different projects.

2nd-Grade Major/Minor Videos in WeVideo: Using the audio and video libraries, students searched for “major” or “minor” audio, then selected video footage that they thought would fit with the audio. The project had a 30-second time limit. Once their work was completed, we posted it on Flip so that students could watch each other’s videos and add encouraging comments. Many of my second graders were able to complete the project in about 20 minutes.

Character Trait Video Commercials: For another project, students created music in Soundtrap (there’s a 30-day free trial for educators) that corresponded to each  of our school’s character goals and then selected video to match it. The best videos were chosen by teachers and played as “bumpers” at our schoolwide recognition ceremonies.

Counting by Seven Videos and Hip-Hop Songs: Students wrote raps for multiplying, like “Seven, 14, 21, we are going to have some fun. Twenty-eight, 35, 42, just see what I am going to do.” Students recorded the song, then drew examples of sevens that were scanned into the video.

The final stage of the 2023 Tour de France came to a climactic end with Belgium’s Jordi Meeus claiming a surprise victory in a sprint for the line on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Meeus won by the narrowest of margins in a photo finish edging Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin Deceuninck) and Dylan Groenewegen (Team Jayco Alula) into second and third place, respectively.

Meeus celebrated an emphatic end to his debut while Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard claimed a second consecutive Tour de France title. Vingegaard finished seven minutes, and 29 seconds ahead of Slovenia's Tadej Pogacar with Adam Yates of Great Britain taking third overall.

Saturday 22 July: Stage 20 - Belfort - Le Markstein Fellering, medium mountains, 133.5 km

Despite failing to regain the yellow jersey he won in 2020 and 2021, Tadej Pogacar  ended his Tour de France on a high note.

In his last Tour de France mountain stage before retirement, home favourite Thibaut Pinot went on a solo attack to the delight of the French fans.

But the climbing specialist was unable to stay in front with first Tom Pidcock and Warren Barguil catching him before Pogacar made his bid to bridge the gap.

Overall race leader Jonas Vingegaard covered the move with Felix Gall , and the three forged clear on the closing Col du Platzerwase climb.

As things became tactical at the front, the Yates brothers - Adam and Simon - made it a lead group of five.

Vingegaard made his bid for the stage win with 250m to go, but Pogacar was too strong this time with the Dane losing second to Gall on the line.

Pinot received a hero's welcome as he crossed the line in seventh place.

The two riders emerged from a three-man breakaway and outsprinted Australia's Ben O'Connor, with Mohoric narrowly beating Asgreen to the finish line.

Throughout the 172.8km stage, there were numerous fragmented attacks across the field, leading to an intense pursuit among different breakaway groups in the final 20km.

Overall leader Jonas Vingegaard finished with the main peloton and kept his seven-and-a-half-minute lead on Tadej Pogacar in the general classification (GC) with just two stages remaining

Thursday 20 July: Stage 18 - Moûtiers - Bourg-en-Bresse, flat, 184.9 km

Kasper Asgreen surprised the sprinters and claimed stage 18 of the Tour de France after a long day in the breakaway.

Following several mountain stages in the Alps, a flatter stage awaited the peloton on Thursday. A breakaway of four rider with Kasper Asgreen , Jonas Abrahamsen , Victor Campenaerts, and later Pascal Eenkhoorn managed to just stay clear of the sprinters that were breathing down their necks on the finish line.

Asgreen of Denmark proved to be the fastest of the riders in the breakaway, and he secured his team Soudal Quick Step their first stage win of this year’s Tour de France.

Jonas VIngegaard held on to the leader's yellow jersey and maintains his 7:35 advantage to Tadej Pogacar .

Wednesday 19 July: Stage 17 - Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc - Courchevel, high mountains, 165.7 km

Felix Gall claimed a dramatic queen stage of the Tour de France 2023, where Jonas Vingegaard cracked Tadej Pogacar to gain more than five and a half minutes on the Slovenian. The Dane is now seven minutes and 35 seconds clear in the overall lead, and looks very likely to win his second consecutive Tour de France.

The stage winner Gall attacked his breakaway companions with six kilometres remaining of the final climb Col de la Loze. Simon Yates tried to chase down Gall, but the AG2R Citroën Team rider managed to maintain a small gap to the Brit, and he crossed the finish line solo.

The general classification leader Vingegaard dropped Pogacar 7.5 kilometres from the summit of Col de la Loze, and while the Slovenian tried to limit his losses, last year’s winner did what he could to gain as much time as possible. His lead seems unassailable with four stages remaining.

Tuesday 11 July: Stage 10 - Vulcania - Issoire, medium mountains, 167.2km

Pello Bilbao of Bahrain-Victorious claimed the first Spanish Tour de France stage win in five years as he outsprinted his breakaway companions in a thriliing finale on stage 10.

Prior to the sprint finish, Krists Neilands of Israel-Premier Tech was caught just three kilometres from the finish line after the Latvian tried to go solo 30 kilometres earlier.

Several riders from the breakaway attacked in the final, where Bilbao broke free with Georg Zimmermann of Intermarché-Circus-Wanty. Ben O'Connor of AG2R Citroën Team managed to bridge accross right before Bilbao launched his sprint.

Neither Zimmerman nor O’Connor could respond, and the 33-year-old Spaniard could take his first-ever Tour de France stage win. A victory he dedicated to his former teammate Gino Mäder, who tragically lost his life last month after a crash at the Tour de Suisse.

In the general classification, Jonas Vingegaard crossed the finish line alongside the other favourites, and he retains his 17-second advantage over Tadej Pogacar in second place. Bilbao advanced from 11 th to fifth position in the overall standings.

Sunday 9 July: Stage 9 - Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat - Puy de Dôme, 182.4km

The iconic finish at Puy de Dôme , a 13.3 km stretch at 7.7% average gradient, returned to the race for the first time since 1988.

The stage was forecast to be a battle between overall leader Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar but it turned into a heartbreaking loss for Matteo Jorgenson. The U.S. rider who was stung by a wasp and needed to be attended to by the race doctor with 72km to go, produced a brave 50km solo effort and was caught 450m from the finish by Canada's Michael Woods.

Meanwhile, Pogacar gained eight seconds on Vingegaard.

Saturday 8 July: Stage 8 - Libourne - Limoges, hilly, 200.7km

Mads Pederson held off triple stage winner Jasper Philipsen and Wout van Aert to clinch stage eight of the Tour de France in 4:12:26.

Van Aert had looked to be in a position to take the stage but was forced to apply the brakes after getting blocked by his own Jumbo-Visma teammate Christophe Laporte . The Belgian was able to recover to catch third.

Earlier in the race, joint record holder for stage wins Mark Cavendish was forced to abandon his 14th and expected last Tour after he was caught in a crash with 63km to go.

The Manx Missile appeared to have injured his shoulder after a touch of wheels in the peloton forced him off his bike and onto the tarmac.

It's been a heartbreaking 24 hours for Cavendish who was denied a record win yesterday (Friday) after suffering a mechanical issue in his sprint showdown with Philipsen.

In the GC, Jonas Vingegaard retained the yellow jersey, while Great Britain's Simon Yates slid two places into sixth following his crash with just 5km of the race left to go.

Friday 7 July: Stage 7 - Mont-de-Marsan - Bordeaux, flat, 169.9km

Jasper Philipsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck got his hat-trick, as he claimed his third sprint victory on stage 7 of the 2023 Tour de France.

The points classification leader won ahead of Mark Cavendish of Astana Qazaqstan Team and Biniam Girmay of Intermarché - Circus - Wanty.

A breakaway tried to challenge the peloton for the stage win, but it was inevitable that the sprinters were going to battle it out in the end.

The GC favourites, including Jonas Vingegaard , crossed the finish line in the peloton, and the Jumbo-Visma rider retained the yellow leader’s jersey.

Thursday 6 July: Stage 6 - Tarbes to Cauterets-Cambasque, high mountains, 144.9km

Tadej Pogacar of UAE Emirates won the mountainous stage 6 in the Pyrenees ahead of reigning Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard , who took over the leader’s jersey.

The first part of the stage was dominated by Jumbo-Visma and Vingegaard, who put pressure on the penultimate climb Col du Tourmalet. First, overnight leader Jai Hindley  was dropped by the pace of Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma).

Shortly after, Vingegaard attacked on climb, and only Pogacar could follow. The Dane’s teammate Wout van Aert got into the early breakaway and was waiting on the descent to pilot his captain into the final kilometres of the last climb - Cauterets-Cambasque.

Defending champion Vingegaard attacked again on the final climb with 4.5 kilomtres to the finish, but Pogacar stayed in his wheel. Two kilometres later, the Slovenian opened up a gap to the Dane. The two-time Tour de France winner managed to stay and claim his tenth Tour de France stage win.

In the GC, Vingegaard now leads by 25 seconds to Tadej Pogacar in second place.

Wednesday 5 July: Stage 5 - Pau to Laruns, high mountains, 162.7km

General Classification podium contender Jai Hindley of BORA-Hansgrohe claimed the first mountain stage of the 2023 Tour de France. He also took over the leader’s yellow jersey from Adam Yates . Australian rider Hindley had sneaked into a big breakaway, where he attacked on the last categorised climb, Col de Marie Blanc. Hindley managed to maintain a gap to the GC favourites to take his first ever Tour de France stage.

Behind the stage winner, reigning champion Jonas Vingegaard had dropped two-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar and others on the last steep climb, and the Dane started the final descent with a 40-second advantage to the Slovenian.

Vingegaard crossed the finish line in fifth place, 34 seconds behind Hindley but gained more than a minute on his biggest rival for the overall win, Pogacar. Last year’s winner moves up to second place in the GC, 47 seconds behind Hindley, who was awarded 18 bonus second on the stage. Pogacar is in sixth place, 1:40 behind the leader’s jersey.

Jasper Philpsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck sprinted to his second consecutive stage win on stage four of this year's Tour de France. In a close sprint finish, the Belgian threw his bike at the finish line to win right ahead of the Australian Caleb Ewan (Lotto Dstny).

A few crashes on the final kilomtres did not change anything among the GC favourites. Adam Yates crossed the finish line within the peloton, and the UAE Emirates rider retained the yellow leader's jersey.

2023/24 Champions League Group E: Fixtures, results and how to watch

  • Atletico Madrid won one of the weaker Champions League groups
  • Lazio brought the drama and advanced with Atletico as runners-up
  • Scottish giants Celtic got nowhere near last 16 qualification

By Euan Burns | Dec 14, 2023, 12:41 PM GMT

It was a group of hardcore fanbases

Atletico Madrid were perhaps the happiest of the Pot 2 teams as they were drawn in the same 2023/24 Champions League group as Feyenoord, the Dutch champions.

They were then joined in Group E by Serie A side Lazio, who had made a very poor start to the new season, meaning it was shaping up to be one of the weakest-looking groups in the tournament.

The group was then completed by Celtic who turned out to be no threat at all to the other sides as they only picked up a win on Matchday 6 when they had nothing to play for.

Alvaro Morata, Axel Witsel

Always the favourites to progress from this group, Atletico Madrid made few mistakes. They had qualification in the bag before the final match against Lazio and knew that a draw was enough for top spot.

They ended up winning the game 2-0 and will be one of the teams to avoid in the next round. Atleti may have underwhelmed last season, but they won't be pushovers this time.

Potential last 16 opponents

  • PSV (Group B)
  • Napoli (Group C)
  • Inter (Group D)

Lazio - Group E runners-up

Mario Gila

Considering the incredible inconsistency Lazio have shown in Serie A this season, they have done very well to qualify ahead of a good Feyenoord team with a four-point margin.

The highlight was certainly goalkeeper Ivan Provedel scoring a 95th-minute equaliser against Atletico Madrid in the first game of the group stage to secure 1-1 draw. They did well, but seeded teams will fancy two legs against Lazio.

  • Bayern Munich (Group A)
  • Arsenal (Group B)
  • Real Madrid (Group C)
  • Real Sociedad (Group D)
  • Borussia Dortmund (Group F)
  • Manchester City (Group G)

Feyenoord - Europa League knockout round play-off

Thomas van den Belt, Mats Wieffer

In terms of performances, there was plenty of reason to back Feyenoord finishing above Lazio in this group but they just stopped getting the results towards the end.

Ending with three defeats means they couldn't complain about getting knocked out, but they should be a tough opponent for anyone in the Europa League.

Celtic - Out of Europe

Mitchel Frame

Things did not go to plan for Brendan Rodgers' side. Celtic feasibly could have escaped this group in another season or at least entered the Europa League but they only managed four points, three of which came on Matchday 6 against Feyenoord when both teams knew their fate already.

M&P compensation review 2023/24

Compensation review and implementation is currently underway for the Management and Professional group.

UBC has recently completed a market review to evaluate the competitiveness of its compensation for Management & Professional (M&P) Staff. We are pleased to have finalized the implementation plan for the M&P Compensation Review, and to be responsive to the principles in the AAPS Agreement. It is important to the University and to AAPS that M&P compensation remains competitive, given its fundamental nature in retaining and recruiting outstanding staff.

The University’s bargained agreement with AAPS (the Association of Administrative and Professional Staff) requires the University to conduct salary surveys of the representative comparator market at regular intervals, and this has been done every three to four years since 2004. The results inform targeted changes to the AAPS salary grid that result in the University paying at the “50th percentile” of the comparator market.

Changes from the M&P Compensation Review are separate from compensation increases that are negotiated during collective bargaining, which tend to come in the form of General Wage Increases (GWIs) to keep up with inflation.

Implementation of Results

It is important to note that this compensation review will not result in a general wage increase (GWI) for all M&P staff. Adjustments are targeted at those job family levels that have fallen behind the 50th percentile of the relevant comparator market.

It is also important to note that the changes that are going to be implemented will not result in any lifting of the overall pay structure, but rather will result in rearrangement of the classification of targeted levels within job families. Separate negotiated GWIs result in across-the-board lifts to the overall pay structure and salaries.

For your reference, a list of M&P job family levels that will be changed is available at the end of this article. You may also reference UBC's salary scales .

Implementation Rules

Even if a job family level is adjusted, this does not mean that every staff member within that level will receive a salary adjustment. Much depends upon where the M&P staff member’s salary is within the pay grade. View the implementation rules below:

  • If the staff member’s salary fell below the minimum of the "new pay grade", then it will be increased to the minimum of the "new pay grade". The effective date is January 1, 2024.
  • If the staff member’s salary was at or above the midpoint of the "old pay grade", but fell below the midpoint of the "new pay grade", then it will be increased to the midpoint of the "new pay grade".  The effective date is January 1, 2024.
  • Staff members who were above the midpoint of the "old pay grade", and who remain above the midpoint of the "new pay grade" will not receive a salary increase.
  • Staff members who were between the minimum and midpoint of the "old pay grade" and who remain between the minimum and midpoint of the "new pay grade" will not receive a salary increase.

Implementation Date

Planning for these changes has recently begun, and it is anticipated that they will be implemented by June 2024.

Department Administrators will receive a spreadsheet from Human Resources with changes denoted for each eligible M&P staff member in the faculty/department. The spreadsheet will be sent prior to implementation. In addition, staff members whose salaries are impacted will receive an email directly from Human Resources advising them of their new job family level and salary as a result of the changes.

Eligibility Notes

Former staff members who are no longer employed by UBC as of the implementation date are not entitled to any retroactive pay. Staff members on salary continuance as of the effective dates who are eligible for a salary adjustment, will receive the respective pay adjustment. Note that excluded M&P staff not represented by AAPS are not impacted by this implementation.

Summary of effect on Job Families

Note:  Only Job Family Levels that are affected are indicated below. Job Family Levels that are not indicated in the table below will not be changed.

Queries may be directed to [email protected] at the Vancouver Campus, Angela McLean at the Okanagan Campus, or your Human Resources Advisor within your department or unit.

La poste groupe 2023 results.

In a difficult economic climate, La Poste Groupe reports resilient results thanks to its solid strategic model. High-quality non-financial performance.

Revenue up 2.4% to €34.1bn

Attributable net profit stands at €514m, and at €977m excluding material non-recurring items

5% reduction in GHG emissions in 2023

Meeting today under the chairmanship of Philippe Wahl, the Board of Directors of La Poste approved the group’s consolidated financial statements for the year 2023. On this occasion, La Poste, a mission-led company, also presented its non-financial performance.

The year of 2023 by Philippe Wahl, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of La Poste Groupe

philippe wahl

Today we are presenting our non-financial performance indicators for the first time. Our CSR leadership is a strong marker of our commitment to society, and our development in this area must be both profitable and responsible. Our group was a pioneer in reducing the carbon emissions of its operations, and is now aiming for "net zero emissions" by 2040, ten years ahead of the targets set in the Paris Agreement. In 2023, La Poste Groupe’s businesses faced a particularly difficult economic climate, having to cope with a number of shocks: high inflation, high interest rates weighing on our banking business, and a slowdown in consumer spending, which put the brakes on the boom in e-commerce and therefore on growth in the volume of parcels shipped, particularly internationally. Some of our subsidiaries' operations have encountered significant difficulties, and we have demonstrated our collective ability to tackle these with realism and determination, by identifying the problems, dealing with them, and solving them. La Poste Groupe managed to limit the impact of this adverse environment on its financial results, with revenue coming in at €34.1 billion and net profit totalling €514 million. This resilience of our activity and financial performance testifies to the solidity of La Poste's strategic model. This strategic model has undergone a transformation as mail now only accounts for 16% of our revenue. These results are the outcome of the dedicated work and achievements of all of our people, which is why every La Poste Groupe employee will be receiving a profit-sharing bonus. In 2023, parcels represented 53% of the group's revenue, with a mixed picture across our operating countries. Volumes continued to increase for Colissimo in France and for Geopost in Italy, France, Spain and Ireland. In financial services, thanks to its diversification into insurance, La Banque Postale saw an increase in its results. In local services (meal delivery, Log'issimo, energy performance certificates), diversification continued, with revenue topping €800 million. And in digital services, Docaposte’s revenue amounted to €955 million. La Poste Groupe also strengthened its historic business activities and public service missions with the signature of the new 2023-2027 public service agreement with the French State, and the sixth regional postal coverage agreement signed with the Association of French Mayors and the State. Backed by its shareholders – Caisse des Dépôts and the French State – La Poste Groupe is continuing to grow and change, so that it can make a positive impact on the transformational shifts currently taking place in society, with a view to supporting millions of customers, offering ever-more services, and being ever-more useful to everyone, everywhere.

Significant events in 2023

2023 was marked by a high level of inflation, a slowdown in growth within Europe and the rest of the world, and high interest rates. Against this backdrop:

the structural decline in Mail volumes continued (down 9.2% on 2022)

overall volumes of Parcel deliveries remained stable year on year, decreasing just 0.1% to 2.6 billion, Geopost's volumes edged down by 0.6%, and Colissimo's volumes increased by a moderate 2.5%;

business at La Banque Postale was resilient in contrasting markets in France and abroad.

The group continued to implement its strategic plan, by

Consolidating its core historical activities and public service missions.

Since 1 January, La Poste has revisited its Mail range in order to respond to changing customer behaviours, reduce its carbon footprint and future-proof the universal postal service¹;

After receiving clearance from the European Commission, the new agreement on press delivery – entered into between the French State, press trade associations, Arcep and La Poste – came into force in January;

Signature of the 2023-2025 regional postal coverage agreement between La Poste, the French State and the Association of French Mayors.

Accelerating the development of growth drivers

Within logistics: To help meet the goals and challenges of the food and healthcare sectors, Chronopost now has the largest temperature-controlled network of all of France’s transportation carriers, having opened four new hubs in June. Chronofresh and Chronopost Healthcare are therefore seeking to double their volumes over the next five years; Signature of a memorandum of understanding with CMA CGM in June, aimed at harnessing both groups’ complementary supply chain strengths in the international market (outside France); Acquisition in February of Absolutely, a UK-based last-mile delivery specialist, by DPD UK; Announcement in May of the creation of DPD Argentina through a joint venture with TASA Logística, which operates in a large number of South American countries; A new milestone reached by Geopost in the expansion of its out-of-home delivery network, with the number of Pickup points in Europe reaching 100,000 in November in order to meet growing customer demand.

Within Bancassurance: CNP Assurances became a full-service insurer, with the formation of a dedicated hub bringing together all of the group’s insurance activities under the umbrella of CNP Assurances Holding, which is wholly owned by La Banque Postale; Continued expansion of CNP Assurances in Brazil, with the completion of acquisitions (purchase of (i) Caixa Seguridade’s stake in CNP Participaçôes and (ii) ICATU’s stake in CNP Capitalização S.A. – “CNP Cap”), raising its interests in these entities to 100%, and creation of the CNP Seguradora brand to market the entities’ products under an open model (i.e., via long-term partnerships, such as with Brazilian postal operator Correios); Strengthening of the asset management business, with the acquisition, completed in July, of Financière de l’Echiquier, one of France’s leading entrepreneurial asset management companies, and the extension of the partnership between La Banque Postale and Aegon Asset Management until 2035.

Laying the foundations for future growth

• In digital services, through the acquisitions by Docaposte of Maincare (98%), a specialist in digital solutions for hospitals, Thiqa (80%), an expert in consulting, integration and operation of solutions in the field of digital trust, and Tekoway (100%), a web technology agency specialised in web and mobile applications and businessspecific tools and systems;

•In home healthcare and health data, through (i) the creation of La Poste Health & Autonomy in October, with the aim of becoming a partner of choice in local human services for home healthcare and for health data digital trust services, (ii) the acquisitions of a 70% interest in Weliom, a consultancy specialised in helping healthcare players achieve their digital transformations, and the entire capital of Axonal-Biostatem, a clinical research company;

•In digital trust , with Docaposte’s first sovereign generative AI solution launched in November, in partnership with French players LightOn, Aleia and Numspot

Raising the bar in terms of profitability and critical mass

Disposal of Stuart (a provider of urgent urban delivery solutions) in November and discontinuation of Urby (provider of pooled deliveries in urban areas);

Project to discontinue Ma French Bank, a fully online bank, under consideration since December.

( 1 ) :  In December, the European Commission declared that the contribution paid by the French State to La Poste for the universal postal service is compatible with the internal market.

A socially engaged group:

High-quality ESG ratings, worldwide and all sectors combined

Rated joint second by Moody's ESG Solutions;

Rated in the Top 2% by EcoVadis;

CDP Leadership level, in the Top 6% of companies for our climate commitment

La Banque Postale ranked no.1 French bank and no. 3 worldwide by Sustainalytics in the “Diversified Banks” category

A pioneering carbon reduction policy that is delivering results

The group is upholding its pledge to reduce its GHG emissions: its first SBTi carbon emissions pathway validated in 2019 for its historical businesses in France (Mail, Parcels, Post Offices, Corporate), which targeted a 30% reduction between 2013 and 2025, was achieved and exceeded as of end-2023, two years ahead of schedule, with a reduction measured at 35%;

In February 2023, Geopost became the first global parcel delivery company to have its carbon emissions reduction targets approved by the SBTi¹;

On track in 2023 to meet this 90% reduction target within the general "net zero emissions” by 2040 target, which meant reducing our 2022 carbon footprint by 5%. This performance is being driven by the large-scale sustainability policy we are rolling out for our real estate portfolio, as well as by the steps taken to optimise our supply and delivery chains, introduce low-emission vehicles into our fleets (including 37,000 electric vehicles out of which 15,000 e-bikes) and reduce air freight in France;

Signature in June of a strategic partnership between La Poste Immobilier and EDF, leading to the creation of a joint venture (OGE) to step up the group’s switch to greener energy for its buildings The aim of this joint venture is to reduce the energy consumption of buildings by 20% and their GHG emissions by 35% by 2030 (from a baseline year of 2017);

Reinforcement of the group's climate strategy, supported by transition plans and an exhaustive inventory of our carbon footprint, which has been extended to the group’s entire value chain. Our 2023 footprint, measured at 5.6m tCO2eq., is being monitored as from 2024;

A leading position in terms of meeting the ambitious criteria set by the EU taxonomy²: The work we are undertaking to move to greener practices have placed us as one of the companies in France that is the most ahead in terms of the proportion of revenues and CapEx derived from/related to activities that are aligned with the EU Taxonomy’s list of activities that are deemed to substantially contribute towards achieving the Taxonomy’s six environmental objectives, in particular those relating to climate mitigation and climate adaptation. In 2023, our Taxonomy-aligned revenue increased by 6 points (industrial and commercial scope) and our Taxonomyaligned CapEx represented one out of every two euros spent.

( 1 ) :  Geopost has pledged to reduce by 43% its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions and absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from fuel and energy-related activities, upstream transport and distribution and upstream leased assets by 2030, and its absolute Scopes 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 90% by 2040 compared with the baseline year of 2020.

( 2 ) :  The aim of the EU Taxonomy – which forms part of the European Green Deal – is twofold: to encourage companies to assess where they are positioned in relation to the EU’s pathway towards a green economy, and at the same time to enable financial players to prioritise allocating their funding to projects, assets and counterparties that are recognised as making the greatest contribution to this pathway. The Taxonomy establishes a classification (taxonomy) of economic activities according to their level of contribution to the six environmental objectives defined by the EU (hence the widely known term, the "Green Taxonomy").

Helping to finance France’s environmental transformation:

La Banque Postale , a leading player in sustainable finance, is the first bank in the world to have committed to totally stop investing in the coal, oil and gas industries by 2030¹. La Banque Postale is the only bank to have developed an indicator that measures the impact of its activities on the environment, society and local regions. The Global Impact Index (GII), jointly created with WWF France, was introduced in 2023 and covers 64% of the bank's financing activities. This indicator has led to the launch of impact home loans – an innovative offering in France aimed at involving La Banque Postale customers in the “just transition” by encouraging them to favour real estate projects that have a positive impact on the environment, regional development and social inclusion or to renovate their current homes to make them more energy efficient;

By end-2023, CNP Assurances had invested €27.7 billion in the energy and environmental transition , with the aim of reaching €30 billion² by the end of 2025, compared with €10 billion at end-2018. This tripling of green investments in the space of seven years places CNP Assurances among France’s insurance companies that are the most committed to sustainability, and it is contributing to achieving the Caisse des Dépôts group’s objective of accelerating France’s environmental transformation over the coming years. CNP Assurances is drawing on its multi-partner and international model and is mobilising all of its subsidiaries to contribute to limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

( 1 ) :  Since these policies came into effect, the bank’s new exposures to players in these sectors correspond either to players that have drawn up a carbon reduction pathway that has been approved by the SBTi, or players for which La Banque Postale has solely financed renewable energy projects (solar power, wind power, etc.).

( 2 ) :  Green investments correspond to green bonds issued by national governments and corporations, buildings that have energy and/or environmental performance certifications, funds classified under Article 9 of the SFDR that have environmental sustainability objectives, infrastructure assets and unlisted companies (private equity) whose main business is related to the environment. Despite their growth, investments in the energy and environmental transition are still insufficient to meet the targets of the Paris Agreement. France’s Institut de l'Économie pour le Climat (I4CE) estimates that the additional private and public investment needed in France to move towards carbon neutrality is between €13 billion and €30 billion per year (source: 2022 edition of I4CE's climate finance overview).

A group that cares about its employees, develops their skills and is committed to people-oriented innovation and performance:

Equal pay for men and women has been achieved, with a pay gap of 0.2% in favour of women employed at La Poste SA (102,392 employees), thanks to an exemplary gender equality policy, and a composite gender equality index score of 94/100;

France's leading employer of people with disabilities, who make up 8.45% of the group’s workforce, i.e., more than 2.5 points above the legal requirement;

Nearly 90% of postal workers receive training each year and more than 1,500 were offered innovative career paths in 2023;

A responsible group that protects the health and safety of its employees and enhances their quality of life at work. Since 2019, the number of occupational accidents with time off has fallen by 3,409, or 41%.

The group is deeply committed to combating digital exclusion and identified, supported, trained and equipped 646,000 people in digital technologies in 2023, 36% more than in 2022, and is aiming to support, train and equip a total of 1 million by 2030.

others significant events in 2023

Signature in June of the 2023-2027 public service agreement between La Poste and the French State, thereby future-proofing the group’s four public service missions

Successful €1.5 billion bond issue in June, comprising a €650 million tranche and an €850 million tranche with respective maturities of 7 and 12 years.

Unchanged credit ratings (A+ by S&P Global and Fitch Ratings).

Global growth is projected to be around 3.1% in 2024¹, weighed down by the elevated central bank rates that have been set in order to fight inflation. Eurozone growth is expected to be a contained 0.9%, with France’s economy growing 1.0%, driven by higher household spending as the effects of the energy price shock fade and inflation slows. Against this backdrop, the group will press ahead with its strategic plan, "La Poste 2030, committed for you", with a view to achieving profitable and responsible growth both in France and internationally. In particular, it intends to:

Cement its core historical businesses

structured around the universal postal service and La Poste’s operating presence throughout France.

Accelerate the development of growth drivers:

for Geopost, by increasing its growth in out-of-home delivery solutions and becoming the international benchmark for sustainable delivery;

for La Banque Postale, by consolidating its model of socially responsible bancassurance and stepping up its efforts to enhance operational efficiency

Continue laying the foundations for the future,

particularly in new Health & Autonomy services, new local services and digital trust solutions.

In 2024, the group will be working to improve its profitability, in particular by stepping up its efforts to control costs, so that it can continue its investments, which are the key to its future. The group intends to invest particularly in its platforms and network to keep its competitive edge, in its vehicles to continue its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, in its information systems, and in training its postal workers to keep pace with the technological changes in its businesses.

As a socially engaged group, in 2024 La Poste Groupe will continue its transformation for the good of the whole community
