Hyogo Prefecture has established five overseas offices as bases to enhance amicable relationships with friendly country/regions, support economic and tourism exchange, and promote educational and cultural exchange.

Hyogo Business and Tourism Centre (HK)

     The Hyogo Prefectural Government announced today (November 15) that it has opened an office in Hong Kong to support companies from Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, in expanding their business in Asia and overseas.      The Hong Kong office, Hyogo Business and Tourism Centre (HK), is responsible for promoting Hyogo's regional economic co-operation with Hong Kong, Mainland China and ASEAN countries, as well as other countries and regions.      The Director of the Hyogo Business and Tourism Centre (HK), Mr Tatsuhiro Arai, said that the Hong Kong office is the prefecture's fifth outside Japan, following the opening of representative offices in the US, Australia, France and Brazil. "We chose Hong Kong because it is the gateway city to Asia and has good access to Guangdong and Hainan Provinces, both of which have alliances with Hyogo Prefecture," he said.      The Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Andrew Davis, welcomed the Hyogo Business and Tourism Centre (HK)'s setting up in Hong Kong, saying, "Hong Kong offers a strategic anchor for Japanese investors with its strong international network, foundation in the rule of law and free market mechanisms. It is the perfect platform for a prefectural government like Hyogo to help companies from the prefecture expand into Mainland China and other parts of Asia." Internship Programmes

The Japanese Studies Internship Programme provides an opportunity for students who have just completed their second or third year at university to acquire work experience through on-the-job training either at prestigious Japanese organisations in Hong Kong or at Hong Kong companies that have a strong connection with Japan. We are honored to have the support of these organisations, and we value the considerable support they provide our students by enabling them to participate in internship programmes.

Students who are chosen to participate in the internship programme can also enrol in the course JAPN2094 Japanese Studies Internship (6 credits). This course offers students an internship learning experience by allowing them to take their classroom knowledge into the community. Students will have an opportunity for experiential learning, earn credits towards their degree, and engage in a rich experience by working in an organisation or company that has a real impact on society. The internship experience draws on coursework offered by the Department of Japanese Studies and allows students to work in Japanese companies, or in companies which have a strong connection to Japan and demonstrates the use of Japanese in the community.

Students who are chosen to participate in the internship programme can also enrol in the course JAPN3082 Japanese Studies internship: Capstone experience (6 credits). This course offers students an internship learning experience by allowing them to take their classroom knowledge into the community. Students will have an opportunity for experiential learning, earn credits towards their degree, and engage in a rich experience by working in an organisation or company that has a real impact on society. The internship experience draws on coursework offered by the Department of Japanese Studies and allows students to work in Japanese companies, or in companies which have a strong connection to Japan and demonstrates the use of Japanese in the community.

All interns are required to submit a 2,000-word report, written in English, in which they reflect on their internship experience. This report will also be submitted to your host organisation.

Eligibility Year Two and Year Three students are eilgible to apply. Preference will be given to students who are majoring in Japanese Studies. We will consider exceptions. JAPN2088 is a prerequisite. In addition to Japanese language proficiency, some hosts may stipulate additional requirements such as a minimum 3.2 cGPA. You may apply for the Summer Exchange Programmes and the Internship Programme simultaneously as long as the Exchange Programme of your choice does not begin in the first few weeks of the summer vacation. Be sure to clearly indicate your summer plans on the application form.

Duration The duration of the internship will vary according to the host organisation. It can range from two weeks to twelve weeks. The internship programme can begin in early June, following the exam period, or later in the summer.

Conditions Each host organisation determines the conditions under which the intern will work, according to company regulations and other internal criteria.

How to Apply Details about the application and interview process will be announced in March every year. All eligible students will receive an email containing information about the briefing information session, application process and interview schedule.

Your application is expected to include: application form, 1-page CV, HKU portal version of transcript, JLPT certificate (if applicable).

 Nishinomiya Shrine is a main spot worshipping Ebisu-sama, the God of Luck. People will visit and pray for good business. Every January 10, there is an annual Lucky Men Race, which is called "Fukuotoko Erabi", the highlight of the festival. At 6 a.m., they will open the Aka-mon (red gate) and the participants will run to the main shrine located 230m far away. The top 3 participants will be the "Fukuotoko (Lucky Men)" that year.

 Every winter, the northern area of Hyogo Prefecture is always covered with snow. Visitors may go skiing or snowboarding. There will be a Snow Festival held by Tajima Pasture Park, with different games like "Snowball Struck Out".

 Every mid-March to mid-April, there will be a Rape Blossom Festival held at Awaji Hana Sajiki. About a million of rape blossoms growing on the hügelland, forming a huge carpet. You may enjoy the contrast between the ocean, sky and the flowers.

 There are about thousands of cherry blossom trees around Himeji Castle. Every April, we can see the cherry blossoms are in full bloom nearby Himeji Castle. It was also be selected as one of the "Best 100 Spots to Enjoy Cherry Blossoms". Yoshino cherry and weeping cherry covering the white plastered earthen walls of Himeji Castle, representing the beginning of spring.

 The wisteria in Byakugo-ji Temple are longer than normal wisteria, so it is called Nine Shaku (120-180cm) wisteria. Every May, they will become a huge purple veil. In the night, they will keep the nights up and turns to a romantic atmosphere.

 Every June, the Himeji Yukata Festival will be held in Himeji. It is a summer festival co-organized with Osakabe Shrine’s regular festival. During the festival, there will be many different events such as Kids Yukata Parade, Yukata Fashion Show, and booths be prepared. Visitors may enjoy Japanese festival here.

 About mid-July to the end of the month, there will be a "Sunflower Festival" in Sayo town. There will be totally 1 million sunflowers get into bloom during that period, heal and relax us.

 Tamba Sasayama is a city with lots of historical story. It was a prosperous and bustling castle town during the Edo period. A traditional folk song called "Dekansho-Bushi" have been kept to the present since 200 years ago. Every August, local citizens will have a folk festival called "Dekansho-Matsuri", sing and dance in the summer night.

 "AWAJI LONGRIDE 150" is an island loop cycling event in Awaji-island. Participants need to finish the 150km route within 10 hours. You may enjoy the beautiful mountain and sea view while cycling. The organizer also offers different types of Awaji food for the participants.

 Every October, there will be Autumn festival everywhere in Japan. In Himeji, there is a fighting festival called "Nada no Kenka Matsuri" in every 14-15 October. During the event, seven "Yatai (festival float)" will transform to the shrine from different positions. Also, there will be "Mikoshi (sacred religious palanquin)" jostle each other.

 The first marathon competition in Japan was held in Kobe. Now, Kobe is organizing "Kobe Marathon" every November. During the opening ceremony, participants will put on the yellow sunflower gloves, which represent the recovery of the Great Hanshin-Awaji earthquake.

 Kobe Illuminage, one of Kansai's premier LED lighting spectacles, transforms the "Kobe Fruit and Flower Park" into a radiant wonderland each winter. With a different theme each year, every nook and cranny of the park sparkles under the glow of millions of LED lights. Whether which visitor are they, the enchanting light artistry of Kobe Illuminage is sure to captivate and charm. It is a luminous journey into a world of beauty and mystery.
