No, children are welcome to join this tour. However, as per Icelandic regulations, all children below 6 years old is required to seat in a child safety seat. We provide it free of charge, please let us know before the tour starts so we’ll prepare it before your tour.

If we cancel the tour due to bad weather, you will receive an email and a rescheduling offer. If rescheduling does not work, we will refund 96,5%. The 3.5% is a merchant’s fee.

One of the most stunning natural wonders in Iceland, Dynjandi waterfall is the perfect choice for a half-day shore excursion for summer visitors to Ísafjörður , the capital of the Westfjörðs . Generally held to be one of the most beautiful in Iceland, Dynjandi Waterfall can be ticked off the bucket-list coupled with a stop at a traditional Icelandic farm including coffee and happy marriage cake makes for a wonderful half-day tour.

Most visitors to Iceland don´t make it as far as the western fjörds meaning that Dynjandi receives much fewer visitors each year than its southern rivals such as Gullfoss. If you do have one day in Isafjordur, you must grasp the opportunity to visit on our half-day tour. The scenic drive along coastal roads and mountain tunnels through the Westfjörðs is stunning and an experience in and of itself.

Dynjandi, at 100 meters high, is the tallest waterfall in the Westfjords, and cascades down over multiple parallel levels. It has captured the imagination of visitors to our shores in recent years, going viral on social media as a result.

The meeting point for this tour is the cruise ship dock in Ísafjörður. Ísafjörður is becoming increasingly more popular as a cruise ship port of call. Once everyone is onboard, we head out of town and take the mountain tunnel of Vestfjarðagöng. On emerging from the tunnel on the other side of the mountain, we venture onwards through a series of small villages, stunning fjords and sheer faced mountains, before we reach Dynjandi.

Nestled at the innermost point of the Arnar Fjörð, the surrounding area around the Dynjandi waterfall is quite breathtaking, even before we take Dynjandi into consideration.

From the parking area, it is a leisurely 15 walk over the trails towards the falls, which dominate the landscape here. You will pass several smaller falls along the way towards the main attraction. Even if you don´t make it all the way to the falls, the view from afar is still mesmeric.

The word dynjandi in Icelandic means thunderous, pouring or resounding. One can see at once why the falls here were named so, as several smaller waterfalls merge here to form the larger Dynjandi falls.

It has a distinctive appearance, a narrow 30 meters wide at the top and tapers to its full length of 60 meters at the bottom. It therefore, when viewed from afar, somewhat resembles a white bridal veil. Up close, one can´t help but be impressed by the scale of this magnificent series of waterfalls.

After the jaw-dropping sites at Dynjandi, we make our way back towards Ísafjörður, but not before one extra stop. We visit the charming Gemlufell Farm, a typical Icelandic working farm situated in idyllic surroundings on the coastline of Dýrar fjord. Daily life in this remote homestead is so peaceful, and you can take in these surroundings while enjoying complimentary tea, coffee and a traditional Icelandic cake called Hjónabandssæla. This oat and rhubarb jam cake loosely translates as Happy Marriage cake!

In summertime, you even get a chance to meet the Icelandic horses up close. These gentle animals are a unique breed and you will learn about it during the visit.

After our stop at Gemlufell Farm, we return you to your ship in Ísafjörður as you get ready to sail to your next destination.

Private Ísafjörður Walking Tour with Helga

I managed to make it to Ísafjörður in January in a break between the crazy snow storms! Despite the very cold and very windy weather, and the fact that I was traveling alone, Helga very kindly agreed to take me on a private walking tour of the town. She came very well prepared with special shoe spikes for the icy conditions, and even though the wind was so strong at one point we were actually almost being blown away, she continued the tour smiling and was a very good sport. She was engaging and professional, and the tour itself was very interesting and unique in that you get a glimpse into everyday life as it would have been in Ísafjörður in the 19th century. Afterward I was given a book summarizing the information in the tour to keep. A lovely tour and experience.

We booked the 2 hour walk plus the additional hour hike into the forest. Theresa was our guide, one of Helga's staff, and she was most informative about the history and culture of the area. We learned so much more than we would have exploring on our own. We also saw things we never would have found on our own, like the blue whale jaw bone - the perfect photo op. I love the small group concept- limited to 10. I also like that Helga communicates quickly and efficiently to answer questions and complete your booking. I highly recommend this tour.

Helga Hausner met us at the cruise ship dock and she walked us to interesting places in town. She described her life in Isafjordur and it didn't sound like an easy life but it was fascinating all the same. I recommend this walking tour for anyone who enjoys learning and walking.

it was a great walk in english with a pleasant guide (Helga). Helga stood at the pier and waited for us. She related the life during the 19th century. She carried a typical costume. It was a great tour. Helga made us taste a piece of dried and salted cod. After the walk you can buy a book that summarizes what you have seen.

We could have just walked around town with a guidebook, but Helga's tour was so much more informative and interesting. She really gave a great history of the town, and answered all our questions. A little expensive but worth it if you enjoy going into depth.

we signed up for the Geology Tour: Helga took us on a quick tour of the town giving history and geological info along the way. we then opted to take a trail up the side of the mountains [Helga has you assess what you want to do and their are hiking trails lower down] above the forest and learned more history, geology, about the local fauna, sociological issues, and of course troll lore! it was fun and good exercise.....as well as informative. if we're ever in the area again we will book another tour with Helga. until then I highly recommend her tour company and hope you won't miss out on the opportunity to learn more about this gorgeous place.
