Logic, born January 22nd 1990 is a rapper from Maryland, USA. In the last five years, he has built up a loyal Internet following, and is signed to Visionary Music Group and Def Jam Recordings.

Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, better known by his pseudonym, Logic, was born in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He comes from humble beginnings, and didn’t graduate from high school. He began skipping classes in the tenth grade, when he started to do badly in every class. He was later expelled, but he used his new found free time to pursue his music career in full force.

At the young age of 13, Logic met his mentor, Solomon Taylor. When he was sixteen, Taylor brought him a bundle of CDs with beats on to write over. At the time, he was going by the name “Psychological” which is a word that he really identified with, and released an unofficial mixtape entitled “Psychological: The Mixtape” A couple of years on, and Logic opened for Pitbull, Ludacris and Method Man at a show in Maryland. Shortly after, he decided to go by the name Logic instead.

On Decemeber 17th 2010, Logic released his first official mixtape entitled “Young, Broke and Infamous”, and two music videos alongside it for “Stain in the Game” and “Backpack”. It caught the attention of Chris Zarou, who wanted Logic to be a part of his upstart independent record label Visionary Music Group. It was his second mixtape “Young Sinatra” that really caught the attention of the masses, with songs such as “All I Do” and “Prime”. The “All I Do” video was the first video for Logic to reach over a million views on YouTube. By this point he had started a fire so big that it caught the attention of Def Jam, he took the next step in his career by signing with them, and on May 7th 2013, Logic released his fourth official mixtape, “Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever”, which reached 100,000 downloads in 24 hours. He embarked on a tour with Kid Cudi, Big Sean and Tyler, the Creator on “The Cud Life Tour 2013”.

Most recently, on September 15th 2014, Logic released a singled called “Under Pressure” which he declared was the title track of an album that he released on October 21st 2014.

Live reviews

I can’t think of many rappers who have the title of ‘Sir’ before their name, and this is one of the many things that makes Sir Robert Bryson Hall II stand out from the crowd. Logic initially gained a large internet following, before releasing his critically acclaimed mix tape Young Sinatra: Welcome Forever. Making a break through YouTube is an incredible challenge, and a real reflection of Logic’s rapping talent.

Logic is an incredible performer. He flawlessly flows through his beats and tunes, never slipping up or missing a lyric. Speaking of which, the powerful lyrics of this tracks really come to life in a live performance, and resonate even more deeply with the audience when you can hear it first hand. When he sang Walk On By, he had the crowd joining in and going crazy. He really knows how to motivate a crowd and get them on his side. I completely lost track of time, and the concert flew by. I would say, if you get the chance to see him, make sure it’s a long set!

I’m absolutely gutted that I saw him before the release of his epic debut album just this month, but that’s as good a reason as any for me to go back and see the genius perform again.

Chase Center SF 10/13/19 - Great show!! If you're at all concerned about his slow, jazzy, self-reflective numbers, don't be! The show was 100% energy. He ripped through his up tempo, rapid fire flow hits. Too many rappers won't do that fast rap live, Logic not only does it live, he does it every song. He even did the first half of his Homicide verse 5 or 6 times in a gimmick to get the audience jumping. Really fun show. YBN Cordae and JID opened, both were cool and fun to watch. Each came out for a song during Logic's set and you could really see the difference in how Logic completely commanded the stage. A little stiff and scripted with his crowd interaction, but seemed very genuine. Not a fan of huge venues (although the Chase Center is spectacular) but would see Logic again in a heartbeat.

Logic was great!! The other headliner sings about screwing girls in a pretty misogynistic way, but Logic just spreads peace, love, and positivity. He was super energetic and got the crowd pumped up. He produced new beats on stage which was awesome and he brought out his notebook where he had written new lyrics to perform for us. So humbling to witness the process in addition to the product! I would love to see him at a smaller venue where he could really connect with the crowd. Also, it's so cool to hear him rap at ridiculously fast paces. He's got superb talent and you should listen to his stuff and then go to his shows and experience the awe that comes with witnessing this amazing performer.

Best show I've been to! The vibes were amazing and everyone was truly there for the music. Logic is all about peace, love, and positivity and he brings that to the stage. He really loves his fans and encouraged everyone to treat each other like family. He gave shout outs to young kids in the crowd and even brought a couple girls on stage to rap with him.

Someone in the middle of the crowd got hurt and he immediately stopped the music and everything and had everyone clear a path and the security team carried the guy out to safety within seconds.

Support this amazing artist and get your tickets. I will never miss a Logic show!!

It was awesome! A lot of people got there pretty early to start lining up. It didn't take too long to see him perform and even if it did, it was worth it! When they let us in, they played the live recording of Jimmy Kimmel, and after that, some guy came out to get us hyped up. The music started playing and it went over like twice so the cameras can record good shots and footage from different angles. Once Logic came out, everyone was so hyped! He performed extra songs after the ones he needed to do for the show. He talked to us separately and preached good shit. He's a great artist and a great individual.

This is my second concert, but my first hip-hop concert. I was blown away and I feel like it didn't even happen.

Logic has so much energy and he relates to his fans . I will never forget this experience. He looked up at me and asked my name and age. Then shouted me out to the whole audience and everyone started to scream .

This is one of the best concerts I have been to and I will definitely go again as VIP . Also Ansel Elgort was there . I saw him, but I didn't know it was him , he was just in the audience .

Logic is the best and I hope he never stops doing what he is doing .

I went to see Logic quite a while back in January and the Rave in Milwaukee WI, and it was one of the best experiences in my life. The down to earth sensation you get from Logic as a whole is so rare to find among the hip hop community and I was honored to even be in the same room as him. Not only was Logic amazing, but Micheal Christmas opened for him and now he is defiantly one of my favorite people. If you ever get the opportunity to go see Logic I definitely recommend it, and can't wait until he tours again.

Logic I dont even know if words can describe how good he was , but I will try . His performance hands down was amazing , outstanding such a great performer. He went down the stage just to shake a little kids hand, he was so humble and nice to him it melted my heart & everyone else who was at power house. Logic is not just a great performer but also a good person from heart ! Always gonna be a logic fan ! So worth going to see and being front row would be so worth it.

absolutely amazing. the environment was so positive. everyone in there was going crazy even some people on the balcony were going crazy. And Logics performance was like nothing I've ever seen before;absolutely amazing. And the best thing about it was that he was interacting with his fans in the crowd also. he made it feel like we were all really family like he said. loved all of it. Also his dj's set was so much fun. if you weren't there you should've been there.

Logic is making his debut down under this summer.

UPDATE: Logic's shows were scheduled to go on sale today, however, promoters have announced the on sale date has been delayed, due to "tour logistics." Tickets will be available at a later stage, stay tuned for further updates.

The Maryland native is a proven force to be reckoned with, if his recent album Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is anything to go by.

Armed with a stack of features - including Eminem, Gucci Mane, Wiz Khalifa and Will Smith – the album showcases all the provocative rhymes and spitfire bars that Logic will be hauling to Australia in December.

Logic first announced he would be making a very overdue visit earlier this year, with the inaugural drop of Sandtunes Festival .

Now he’s announced two huge debut headline shows: one at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena and another at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

Both shows are supported by homegrown favourites, Thundamentals .

Logic 'Bobby Down Under' Tour

Logic: 10 Essential Tracks

By Cyclone Wehner

CONTENT WARNING: The following article discusses mental health and suicide.

Logic (aka Sir Robert Bryson Hall II) has steadily emerged as a game-changing MC in a little over a decade. Like Kanye West, J Cole and the late Mac Miller, Logic is a studio polymath, capable of cutting his own beats. Still, he’s known for his classic wordplay, narrative prowess, and nuanced takes on social matters.

The Maryland, US native long been candid about his life. Born to a black father and white mother, Logic endured family dysfunction and poverty in a country with structural inequality and few safety nets. He has utilised music to explore the paradoxes of his biracial identity and thematised mental wellbeing – something that has resonated with fans.

Logic is versatile, creating both major crossover hits and underground deep cuts for the hip-hop heads. The Quentin Tarantino nerd also loves concept projects.

Logic has had his challenges. When he premiered on Def Jam Recordings with 2014’s Under Pressure , Logic was accused of emulating Kendrick Lamar. Despite his easy charm, Logic then fell out with Joyner Lucas – that feud now happily resolved. Logic was meant to finally tour Australia in late 2019 but, with SandTunes cancelled, his dates in Melbourne and Sydney were, too.

Last week, the 30-year-old announced his retirement from music, so he can focus on being “a great father”. His fifth and final studio album, No Pressure , will be released this Friday.

Officially announcing my retirement with the release of “No Pressure” executive produced by No I.D. July 24th… It’s been a great decade. Now it’s time to be a great father. Art by @SamSpratt pic.twitter.com/stgSU6dMBt — Rap Adam Sandler (@Logic301) July 16, 2020

That announcement was swiftly followed up with another from video game streaming giant Twitch, announcing that Logic will be Twitch’s first official, exclusive music partner. “Logic will stream weekly on his Twitch channel which will include a mixture of in-studio sessions, special guests, AMA style formats, and gaming.” According to his interview with The Verge , the deal is worth seven figures.

The prolific artist has an expansive – and eclectic – discography that encompasses 2019’s outlandish alt-rock foray Supermarket – a companion to his first novel. In 2015, Logic featured on New Zealand blues vocalist Gin Wigmore’s ‘Willing To Die’ alongside Hilltop Hoods’ Suffa. He’s recorded no less than two songs with Ansel Elgort, the Divergent actor moonlighting as a singer – one his own ‘Killing Spree’. Logic even joined Elton John and P!nk on a fresh rendition of ‘Bennie And The Jets’ off R evamp: Reimagining The Songs Of Elton John & Bernie Taupin . As for the best of the best? Here Music Feeds presents the 10 essential Logic tracks.

‘Under Pressure’ – Under Pressure (2014)

Beginning in 2009, Logic released successive mixtapes – styling himself as Young Sinatra. But he truly became a hip-hop contender with ‘Under Pressure’– the lead single, and title-track, from his autobiographical debut (executive-produced by Common’s old partner, No ID). The hard-hitting ‘Under Pressure’ offers minimal concessions to radio or chart trends – the album version exceeding nine minutes. As the producer, Logic splices up several samples, including Eazy-E’s ‘Eazy-Duz-It’ (Logic was five when the West Coast OG passed in 1995). ‘Under Pressure’ does sound like Kendrick, yet Logic directs it somewhere else. The song references the sacrifices he’s made to realise his dream. The album itself reached the US Top 5.

‘Metropolis’ – Under Pressure (2014)

‘Metropolis’, again from Logic’s debut Under Pressure , is among those album cuts his stans often cite in forums. It’s a chilled-out track, evoking ’90s jazz-hop with saxophone. Logic reflects on his life’s journey so far – and trials (the “Nikki” he mentions is a nicotine addiction). Many have compared ‘Metropolis’ to Kendrick. The record lifts its drum break from Bill Withers’ ’70s groove ‘Use Me’.

‘Fade Away’ – The Incredible True Story (2015)

Logic approached his sophomore, The Incredible True Story , as a sci-fi concept album involving space travel. However, the languid third single, ‘Fade Away”, stands on its own. Logic ruminates on mortality, legacy and all things YOLO. Big Sean pops up, skit-like, at the close. Logic is a traditionally ‘conscious’ MC, but ‘Fade Away’ leans towards cloud rap’s existentialism. Logic self-produced it.

‘Everybody’ – Everybody (2017)

A key theme in Logic’s later work is race, which he analyses through the prism of biracial identity. In ‘Everybody’, the lead single from the blockbuster US #1 album of the same name, the MC describes his contradictory encounters in society, while calling for greater inclusion and understanding. ‘Everybody’ is the kind of rugged funk Kendrick engaged on To Pimp A Butterfly . As with The Incredible True Story , Logic envisioned ‘Everybody’ as “an audio cinematic experience”. He uses reincarnation as a motif for progress and universalism.

‘1-800-273-8255’ (Featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid) – Everybody (2017)

Logic’s defining pop hit is surely ‘1-800-273-8255’ – his plea to anyone experiencing mental health issues to seek help. The hotline in the title is that of the US National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – and Logic recorded the song with their approval to raise awareness. He narrates as someone struggling with suicidal thoughts before and after they speak to a counsellor – the lyrics emphasising the value of perspective. Logic, who sing/raps, is accompanied by Alessia Cara and Khalid. He produced ‘1-800-273-8255′ with his RattPack cohort 6ix (The Chainsmokers’ Drew Taggart has a writing credit). It was the third single from Everybody and, having entered the ARIA Top 5, is now multiplatinum. ‘1-800-273-8255’ received a deserved Grammy nomination for Song of the Year.

‘AfricAryaN’ – Everybody (2017)

Logic had proposed titling the Everybody album AfricAryaN but, understandably, his use of the confronting word ‘Aryan’ generated controversy. In fact, the cerebral ‘AfricAryaN’ deals with Logic’s growing up biracial in America, linking to ‘Everybody’. He completed the smooth, soulful, 12 minute-plus song with his hero J Cole, who, aside from co-producing, provides the outro verse – buzz on release. ‘AfricAryaN’ also features the astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson voicing a benign deity. Eccentric, yes.

’44 More’ – Bobby Tarantino II (2018)

Contemporary hip-hop is populated by mercurial cloud rappers preoccupied with vibe over verbiage. Yet, for those ruing ‘mumble rappers’, Logic is an authentic MC. He cut ’44 Bars’ for 2016’s surprise retail mixtape Bobby Tarantino – the track comprising 44 straight bars. ’44 More’, from  Bobby Tarantino II , is the sequel – and even more compelling technically. Logic flexes about his ascent with Everybody , rapping, “Sold more albums my first week than Harry Styles and Katy Perry/If that ain’t a sign of the times.” !llmind masterminded the trap banger, which samples Kanye’s ‘Waves’ from The Life Of Pablo (and a Future song). Ironically, Bobby Tarantino II eclipsed Logic’s 2018 album proper, YSIV .

‘Everyday’ (with Marshmello) – Bobby Tarantino II (2018)

Logic’s core genre aesthetic is a modern boom-bap. For ‘Everyday’, he took a stylistic turn. Logic hooked up with the infamous US EDM (well, future bass) DJ/producer Marshmello. As such, unusually for Logic, ‘Everyday’ has a festive trap bounce – and he mostly sings. Logic’s lyrics extol his relentless grinding in the biz. ‘Everyday’ is on Bobby Tarantino II . Spoiler alert: Logic has latterly performed the song as the finale in live shows.

‘Homicide’ (Featuring Eminem) – Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2019)

Eminem namedropped Logic in Kamikaze ‘s ‘Fall’. And, somehow, our dude engineered a rare Slim Shady cameo for ‘Homicide’, on his fifth album Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind . Curiously, the track deploys the same allegorising as Eminem’s latest album, Music To Be Murdered By ; the dual MCs, in beast mode, bodying haters and wack rappers alike with their skills. And skills they have – with Logic’s speed rapping impressive. The intro is supplied by Logic’s dad (aka Smokey Legendary).

‘Isis’, (Joyner Lucas Featuring Logic) – ADHD (2019)

Back in 2016, the veteran Tech N9ne matched Logic and Joyner Lucas on his track ‘Sriracha’ – only it triggered a rivalry between them. That beef has now been consigned to history with the street ‘Isis’ – yes, titled for the militant terrorist organisation. It’s actually a bass-heavy anthem from Lucas’ debut, ADHD . He and Logic rap about their industry status and competition – all very meta. ‘Isis’ is helmed by Canada’s Boi-1da.

Logic’s first stream as a new partner of Twitch will happen on July 21st at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET which translates to the morning of Wednesday, July 22nd Aus time. During the stream, Logic will be premiering tracks from his new album. For help or information regarding mental health, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636.

Robert Bryson Hall is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and music producer better known by his stage name Logic. He found relief through music, and started to express himself with his raps. He doesn't shy away from writing about his experiences in his songs, which makes most of his songs extremely personal, but he never glorifies his tumultuous upbringing. He has been heavily influenced by Frank Sinatra's vocal jazz, even though he is more into hip-hop music.

In 2019, Logic returned again with the Confessions of a Dangerous Mind album which contained a feature from Eminem on the track “Homicide”. Logic opened for Eminem for a few shows in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2020 he released a mixtape titled “No Pressure”.

  • Depeche Mode

Aussie Depeche Mode fans are an incredibly patient bunch. The last time the British synth-pop titans toured the country was in 1994, meaning nearly three decades have passed since they last paid us a visit. But good things come to those who wait, and it seems there is a glimmer of hope for those hoping to catch the band Down Under.

In March 2023, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan told an Italian blog that the band were eyeing “as-yet-unannounced dates in Asia and Australia” as part of a touring run that would lead into 2024. The band have toured the world in support of their latest album, ‘Memento Mori’ , and a trip to Australia to cap off the jaunt seems more likely than ever.
