We are world renowned for our top quality and quantity of the grey ghost antelope, the majestic Kudu ! 

We are located in the malaria-free Eastern Cape, South Africa. Operating from our magnificent and vast, single-unit family ranch, the largest of its kind in South Africa.

Our hunting lodges are only a 45-minute drive from the Port Elizabeth Airport. Where do I even start? What a magnificent trip! There are not enough stars to describe my satisfaction. But I will begin with the booking process. Hailing from Abu Dhabi, I had long harbored the dream of an African hunting trip. I emailed Thorndale Safari, and within 2 hours, I received an email detailing everything. It was 1000% inclusive, covering everything from lodging and animal pricing to taxidermy. Let me say, I booked in a heartbeat. The process was seamless.

Then came the travel day, and Reece contacted me, assuring me that he would be waiting at the Port Elizabeth airport upon my arrival. True to his word, once I walked out, he was there, ready with a warm welcome.

Arriving at the lodge, let me start by saying that pictures and videos truly don’t do it justice. The photos take your breath away, but the actual views are even more stunning. You feel as though you’re in a surreal place. The lodge, perfectly perched on top of a hill, offers an endless view of Thorndale Safari. The rooms are fit for a king, making you feel at one with nature. The lodge and room decorations are stunning. In a hotel review, Thorndale Safari Lodging easily deserves a 5 out of 5 stars for cleanliness, amenities (pool, drinks, TV with Netflix, WIFI, and a firepit), as well as location and views. The hunting experience is out of this world. While I am a well-trained shotgun shooter, my rifle skills needed improvement. Reece and Matthew at the shooting range were instrumental in boosting my confidence. They explained the techniques needed for success and were extremely helpful and patient in ensuring my comfort for the upcoming hunts.

During the hunt, Reece always made sure I was comfortable, narrating every step of the process, from tracking animals to choosing the right rifle caliber. Every time we stalked an animal, he demonstrated the process—how to use the wind to our advantage, how to approach during a stalk, and ultimately, how to hunt. The stalking part was my favorite, bringing me so in touch with what it means to be a hunter. Reece didn’t treat me like a client but rather as a younger brother he was teaching to hunt. His passion and excitement made this experience the best of my life, and that’s saying something for a man who has traveled to 6 continents and 25 countries.

In conclusion, if you are reading this review while on the fence or concerned that everything seems too good to be true, I say go for it. Thank me later when you find yourself writing one of the longest reviews of your life.

I visited last April with four of my friends. We were greeted at the airport by our P. H.’s Mathew and Reece who drove us to the ranch. The moment we arrived we fell in love with the place. The lodge was clean and perfectly located on top of a hill overlooking the ranch.

As a full service African Safari specialists, we have visited over 90+ safari lodges in Africa over the last 30 years.  We selected only a handful of those for you that have met our strenuous criteria.  Combination big game hunting, bird hunting, photo safari, Cape Town and Victoria Falls safaris are our specialty.

As with all of our African properties, private aircraft are available for transfers if you prefer.

Our tailor made South Africa luxury hunting safari is built to cater to your hunting desires and needs.  All hunting is spot and stalk in an ethical traditional African hunting style.  What does this mean?  When the trophy that you wish to hunt is spotted from a mountainside, vehicle or on a hike, a plan is made between you and your PH (Professional Hunter) to stalk that trophy.  Should you have any disabilities that need to be catered to, that is absolutely a priority and a plan will be made.  This outfitter is dedicated to ethical hunting and catering to the special needs and desires of every client.  No safari is just alike!

The hunting property is about 10,000 acres and is located about a mile off the beach.  There is something surreal about having the luxury of the beach and lodging combined with hunting.  It is truly a unique experience!

Magnificent ocean views are a one of the most noteworthy features of this stunning ranch, located on the Puti River between Port Alfred and East London. The pristine coastal environment makes a memorable setting for sunsets or horse rides along the beach; the perfect end to a great days hunting. Expect well appointed accommodation, complete with en-suite bathrooms and fireplaces, under- floor heating, where fresh seafood and gourmet country cooking are part of the pleasure.

Should you prefer to stay directly on the beach, two luxury options are available.  Enjoy the beauty of your private beach house perched above the lovely beach.  As with all of the lodges with this property, you will enjoy a private staff and exclusive use.

This outfitter builds each safari to meet the clients desires.  Anything is possible.

Each itinerary is customized for your interests.  We suggest a 7 night safari as a minimum.

There are a couple of options for travel all beginning with your arrival in Johannesburg.

Option 1: We have charter planes that can take you directly to the properties with private landing strips on the properties

Option 2: Fly from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth where you will be greeted by your lodge host and transfer by road to the hunting property which will be a 2 – 3 hour scenic drive.

“I first heard of Kevin Slaughter from a good friend whose judgment I trust 100%. He suggested that I might want to meet Kevin and consider the many hunting and fishing excursions Antlers and Anglers has to offer throughout the world – (Yes, the world!) Kevin and his wife, Corinna, were meticulous in prepping me for our trip. They answered every question I had promptly and again – honestly! They even “reminded” me that the Oregon lodge staff preferred that all guests remove their dusty boots before entering their 5-star facility.

To say that the trip exceeded ALL our expectations would be a great understatement.

From the lodge owner and his wife, to the master chef and lodge personnel, my mother and I were treated to some of the finest 1st-class customer service I have ever encountered. What more can I say?  Oh yea, I killed my first pheasant and chucker (and many more).

We left for home with hundreds of pictures, memories that will last for a lifetime, and many “new friends” that I promised to take turkey hunting in Alabama. Help!

Kevin was in touch from the moment of our departure to our arrival back home, making sure that every aspect of the trip lived up to our expectations. They did!

To those of us who are fortunate enough to hunt and fish throughout this great country, not to mention Alaska and Africa, the Most Important Part of the journey is the security of knowing that our destination will be what we expect. Everything about the trip was great! The lodge was wonderful, the people couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful and the fishing was unbelievable! Our First-Hand Experience

Oh my, we just could not believe our eyes as we flew this massive diverse land by helicopter.  The variations in the earth amazed us from red Kalahari sands to black rich earth to variations of deep brown and rock.

We swept across the landscape watching Zebra race through the red dessert.  Josie secured but hanging out of the chopper with her camera/video taking breathtaking amature footage seen in the video above.  Finally, we pass through a narrow valley between two mountains and there before was our lodging for the next few days.  Set on the hillside above a watering hole filled with Sable and Roan.

Black and White Rhino, Cape Buffalo, Zebra, Red Hartebeest, Eland, Lion, Zebra, Sable and Roan entertained us throughout the days.  Several productive stalks and animals were down.  Our lovely suites overlooked the watering hole and the chef prepared meals never let us down.  Our private lodge could not have been any better in any way.  We simply loved every member of the staff and can’t wait to return.

For the family, there is a lovely pool overlooking the watering hole and a constant stream of animals to keep everyone entertained.  Your personable PH’s (Professional Hunters) are accustomed to attending to every level of hunting skill.  A helicopter tour of the property should be counted as one of the highlights of your stay as well as a trip to the diamond mind museum in Kimberly.

The reserve forms part of the Kalahari Desert (meaning “large thirst” in Tswana) which is a huge red sand basin that reaches from the Orange River up to Angola in the north, in the west to Namibia and in the east to Botswana.  The sand masses were created by the erosion of soft stone formations making this most of the most unique and picturesque places in Africa.

Lion, leopard, cape buffalo and rhino (black and white) roam this land along with other trophy animals such as sable, roan, red hartebeest, blesbuck, kudu, springbuck, zebra, wildebeest, eland oryx, nyala and numerous other species.

This is a malaria free area.  Travel is simple as you will fly into Johannesburg and then either fly commercially into Upington or we can arrange a charter flight directly from Johannesburg to the property.

The world’s most discriminating hunters frequent this amazing hunting safari land.  You and/or your group will be hosted exclusively without other groups on safari at the same time.

Few other hunting safari lodges in Africa match this luxury lodging and exceptional staff!  It is the standard by which many other safari lodges are judged.  The 5-star private lodge boasts with four en-suite suites overlooking the beautiful landscape and productive watering hole. The most discriminating clientele visit this amazing safari property.

There is a private asphalt airstrip on the property for charter flights long enough for a 737 jet.

Traditional three course meals prepared by the fantastic chef are served in the dining/lounge area that leads onto a walkway to the decked swimming pool. The chef prepared meals are delicious and appropriate for the setting!  You will not want for fantastic food and they will cater to your individual dietary requests.

Hunting Season:   February through November

Your classic spot and stalk safari will be conducted in an ethical manner with mature animals as the goal of every hunt.  Most amazingly, you and/or your group will enjoy this massive 212,000 acre property exclusively!  No other guests or hunters will be on the property or at the lodge during your stay unless you request differently.

This immense property is one of the most diverse landscapes as well as diverse in population of game that you will find in the entire continent of Africa!  A safari hunters dream hunt with plentiful game such as Gemsbuck (Oryx), Kudu, Zebra, Impala, Wildebeest, Sable, Roan, Springbuck, to name just a few species available.  Also a rarity is to hunt on a land with four of the big five including Rhino, Leopard, Cape Buffalo and Lions roaming.  In fact, this is one of the only properties where wild lions roam freely and are importable into the United States according to USFW.

Hunters typically depart from the lodge as it begins to break first light in the morning and in most cases will return to the lodge for lunch before heading back out in the afternoon.  This is one of the largest plains game concessions in Africa making it a truly wild hunt.

Your experienced professional hunters will cater to your schedule and desires.  It is not uncommon to see hundreds of game each and every day on safari.

Children on safari need not worry!  These professional hunters are accustomed to patiently teaching children of all ages safety, proper shooting techniques, stalking techniques and ethical standards of hunting.  There is no better place in the world to learn to hunt or hone in your hunting skills than in Africa!

Excellent rifles are available for use in case you choose to forego traveling with guns.  Youth models in various calibers are available as well.

All vehicles are purchased new every three years!

• Day trip to Tswalu, a private game reserve close by. They do game drives and have a really top notch spa and restaurant.  This has to be booked as a day visit and has to be arranged way in advance. • Animal rehab center for wildlife close to Kimberley

• Enjoy a helicopter tour of the property
• The helicopter pilot will gladly take you on adventures in the nearby areas or a larger helicopter may be brought in for larger groups.
• A private Phenom jet is available at the nearby private air strip for those that would like to take a day and travel to Kruger, Sun City, Pilanesburg or anywhere else in the area.
• Lounge by the pool
• View the productive water hole situated just outside the front of the lodge
• High end boutique on property
• Golf – There is a Gary Player golf course about two hours away

Each and every itinerary is customized for you and your group.  We suggest a 7 day safari as a minimum.

Day 1: Arrive in Johannesburg where we will have you greeted as you exit the airplane and escorted through passport control, luggage collection, customs and on to your hotel.  If you are traveling with guns, your escort will assist you with gun registration etc.  Overnight in Johannesburg.

Day 2:  Your greeter will collect you at the hotel and escort you back to the airport for your commercial flight check in or your private charter flight.  On arrival, you will be greeted by your professional hunter for your road transfer to the lodge.

Day 3 – ?:  Hunt and enjoy this amazing land!Departure day:  Your professional hunter will transfer you back to either your commercial flight in Upington or to your private charter flight to Johannesburg and onward to home.

Travel is simple as you will fly into Johannesburg and then either fly commercially into Upington or we can arrange a charter flight directly from Johannesburg to the property itself.

Internet is available but cell service is spotty.

This safari lodge is actively involved in providing exceptional support for community council projects such as local schools, old age homes and general infrastructure such as boreholes.  As for wildlife conservation, they are on the cutting edge of wildlife research and enhancement, skills development for local workers in the community as well as an extreme investment in anti-poaching initiatives.  We are proud of the services and monetary commitment this outfitter gives back to the community.

Our Tsholotsho South concession in Zimbabwe works closely with the CAMPFIRE (Communal Areas Management Program for Indigenous Resources) program that encourages rural communities on communal lands to conserve local wildlife populations.

Furthermore, we conserve our wildlife through:

• working cooperatively on all levels with National Parks boards, conservation bodies, wildlife researchers and environmental departments on conservation issues;
• training, managing and supplying anti-poaching units with the latest equipment to protect our endangered and other indigenous species;
• providing aircrafts and/or helicopters to assist with anti-poaching aerial surveys;
• developing and executing fire management programs;
• game counting and setting of sustainable hunting quotas in cooperation with governing bodies; and
• implementing additional hunting protocols above and beyond the legal scope in order to ensure the long term sustainability and longevity of the areas concerned

If a luxury African hunting safari is what you are after, we have two outstanding options available.

Many clients that travel to Africa's shores seek to combine their hunting safari with a stay at a luxurious lodge. This is often the case when a hunter is traveling with his family, and wishes for them to relish a luxury holiday and enjoy entertaining activities while he is out hunting.

Although all of our hunting camps are very comfortable and will be more than adequate for most hunters and their families, we offer two luxury options to those who require something a little more special and exclusive.

Five Star Lodge

This luxurious hunting camp near the Dinokeng wilderness area offers a wealth of additional activities for guests, which makes it ideal for hunters bringing observers or family members.

The en suite rooms are truly indulgent, with deep soaking bath tubs, private patios and fine linens. Satellite television, air-conditioning and complimentary toiletries are also included.

In addition to in-camp facilities like the infinity pool, bar area, games room and spa, guests can fish for black bass, barbel, tilapia and carp in the three dams. Game drives and bush walks are also available, as well as clay pigeon shooting. Due to its proximity to Pretoria and Johannesburg, guided day excursions are also available for non-hunters.

Luxury Hunting Camp

The luxury hunting camp near Zeerust in South Africa's North West province is one of the plushest properties that we use for hunting safaris. It is a fine choice for hunters who find creature comforts essential, or hunters traveling with observers or family.

In addition to the view-rich swimming pool, each of the sumptuous en suite rooms is fitted with its own private plunge pool for cooling off on hot summer days. Additional in-room amenities include coffee stations and heaters for chilly winter nights.

Guests will also enjoy unwinding in the stylishly glass-walled dining area and festive barbecue-style dinners in the outdoor boma area.

Nottens Bush Camp

If you are looking for a really special stay during your safari in South Africa, you should consider Nottens Bush Camp in Sabi Sand Reserve. It is one of the most luxurious safari lodges in South Africa.

The lodge has, unlike many others, no fence and no electricity so you are really staying in the bush (in one of the nine exclusive, private suites).

A guard brings you to your room after dark and we experienced why they do so. One night we almost stumbled over a hyena on our way to our room.

We were so shocked and happy that we had a guard with us. Another night my parents woke up and heard a strange noise in front of their room.

They got out of bed to take a look and there was an elephant eating the plants that stood on their porch.

From your room in African style, you are overlooking an open area with a waterhole, so sit on your porch and enjoy the panoramic views and the wildlife passing by. You will see zebra, elephants, antelopes, and many other animals pass by.

Nottens Bush Camp is one of the original game lodges in South Africa and is known for its highly experienced rangers. and the area is great for spotting leopards.

This family-owned lodge goes the extra mile. After our first safari, we entered our room. All the candles and lanterns were burning, the bathtub was filled, rose leaves everywhere and a bottle of South African Vonkelwijn (champagne) was waiting for us.

In the evening all the guests are sitting at a big table to share the most thrilling stories about their safari.

They organize two game drives a day. One at 05.30 in the morning and one at 15.30 in the afternoon. In between those safaris you can relax beside the pool or enjoy a massage at the Nature Spa.

Sabi Sands is also home to Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge which is one of the most family-friendly safari lodges in South Africa .

Phinda Mountain Lodge

Phinda Game Reserve , in KwaZulu Natal, is home to some of the most beautiful, luxurious lodges in South Africa.

The best by far is Mountain Lodge. As the name says, this is located in such a way as to afford beautiful views across the bushveld to panoramic mountains.

The lodge is blissfully isolated on top of a hill. Once there, you will walk to the common areas where you will find the dining area, where a decadent breakfast and lunch, as well as afternoon tea are offered every day.

So much care is taken in the selection of the ingredients that you even have a choice of several types of coffee and roasts. The common area is also where the bar is located, with a seating area directly facing the mountains, for incredible views.

On the way to your room, you will find the beautiful pool and the spa, perfect for a relaxing afternoon – before you drive away on one of the game drives.

Rooms are incredibly comfortable, with large beds with a pillow menu; a sitting area with a fridge and all sorts of drinks and snacks.

There is a deck with a plunge pool – a favorite of local wildlife which is free to roam the grounds. It is not uncommon to spot nyalas and at times even elephants drinking from the pool!,

There is also a very spacious bathroom with a large shower and a Victorian-style bathtub.

At Phinda Mountain Lodge you will feel welcome, pampered and you will be able to fully relax while enjoying nature and the unique wildlife of this part of the country.

Singita Sweni Lodge

Located in Kruger National Park,  Singita Sweni Lodge  epitomizes the definition of a lux eco-safari stay.

The lodge is located on 33,000 acres of exclusive concession land on the banks of the Sweni River. This meant that hippos, crocs, elephants, and other wildlife can often be spotted meandering past the lodge.

Singita Sweni Lodge offers an intimate setting far away from the crowds associated with Kruger National Park .

There are only seven large luxurious suites on-site and each one is designed to bring the outdoors in.

They have large floor-to-ceiling windows, big wooden decks, and modern decor with natural elements incorporated into the design.

For us, one of the highlights of staying at Singita Sweni was their strong focus on sustainability.

They have an ethos of “touching the earth lightly” and their efforts were visible in every element of our stay. All meals are crafted with seasonal produce and sourced from local suppliers.

Plus, Singita Sweni Lodge is involved in a number of conservation and social initiatives in the community. One such project was the creation of their solar power plant. Its implementation has meant the lodge can save close to 1,000 tonnes of carbon emissions a year.

Of course, we also loved the morning and afternoon game drives. We had many wonderful sightings of lions, giraffes, zebras, elephants, buffalos, hippos, waterbucks, and other antelopes.

Plus we came across the most unique sighting of them all – a unique white lion, spotted only in this part of Kruger National Park!

If you are looking into a safari in Africa we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Singita Sweni Lodge for an eco-lux experience. It’s a truly one of a kind destination.

Zebra Hills Safari Lodge

Zebra Hills is nestled in the private game reserve of Manyoni in Zululand, and is a sure shot delight for wildlife enthusiasts.

Being part of a private reserve gives the lodge owners and guides a lot of flexibility in terms of game-watching and safari hours.

This is one of the highlights, alongside the spectacular zebra-themed decor in the bedrooms, common areas, bar, and dining room.

The perks of living in a private reserve are aplenty, but my favorite bit was enjoying traditional braai in the evenings whilst you wait for the lions to come for a refreshing sip of water in the adjoining water hole.

This is the only place where I have watched lions on foot. Yes, that’s right. The waterhole is just across the swimming pool/barbeque area and if you stay put, it is easy to spot a few thirsty beasts loitering around to quench their thirst.

With no restrictions on safari hours, the night safaris offered umpteen nocturnal sightings with our top game sightings of the day being three cheetah cubs on a kill followed by a charging black rhino.

Such sightings are a dream for true wildlife lovers and Zebra Hills, with its ultra-luxury sleeps and skilled naturalists, made our dream vacation come true.

Kwandwe Private Game Reserve

Big 5 destination Kwandwe Private Game Reserve covers 54,000 acres of private wilderness area. The reserve includes 30 kilometers of the Great Fish River, meaning a diverse landscape and varied wildlife sightings.

Large animals such as elephants and rhinos are plentiful, along with leopards, cheetahs, and buffalo.

The Kudu is one of Africa’s most beautiful creatures and have spectacular horns that can make almost 3 spirals when fully grown. The Khoisan believe God blessed the Kudu with a white stripe over its face, reaching from 1 eye to the other because they are extremely illusive and so good at hiding. Ekuja Hunting Safaris, founded by Drikus Swanepoel, is widely respected as one of Africa’s premier hunting safari outfitters, offering exceptional trophy hunting, and unique African hospitality. This year it started in the Limpopo, South Africa, where we hosted several old clients who shot some exceptional trophies. Hunting leopard in both Botswana and Namibia allows a choice. Botswana offers the opportunity to hunt with the extraordinarily skilled bushmen trackers along with hounds. It is a unique experience and a tremendously exciting hunt and between both these countries, we are pleased to report that we had another 100% record on the leopard. Our average elephant hunted this season was exceptional. We were fortunate enough to take a bull that would be the heaviest or second heaviest bull hunted across the continent this past year. It’s a huge achievement for any professional hunting operation who along with our client, are extremely pleased to have been able to deliver such a bull. The highlight for Anke and I, was being blessed with the birth of our son, Bruwer. It really is a gift and wonder of nature and so, we thank our heavenly father for keeping his hand over us throughout this year. We look forward to yet another exciting hunting season in 2024. The hunt was to take place april 10th to 20th on their farm near Alldays in Limpopo and my dad would come along as an observer. View attachment 601640 After a couple of days in Johannesburg we were picked up by Stuart, owner of Tally-Ho, and were driven to the hunting area. Leaving the big city and seeing the South African country side for the first time made us very excited for the hunt and I was practically glued to my window for the entire trip looking at a landscape that I had previously only seen in pictures. When we arrived at the lodge we met the staff and were introduced to Rudi, the ph we would be hunting with. Rudi did an excellent job of taking two lost swedes and introducing them to hunting in Africa. He took our wishes very seriously and went to great lengths to make sure we had an exciting hunt which he certainly succeded with. Seeing his ability to always keep things exciting and to gradually increase the difficulty over our stay was very impressive and it gave me the same feeling as when I was younger and had just started hunting at home. He also did an excellent job of showing how varied the hunting can be and introduced us to types of hunting that simply don´t exist at home. View attachment 601644 Since I am still very much a beginner I can´t really comment on the quality of trophies on their land but for me a trophy on the wall has always been a way to remember an exciting hunt and all of the trophies I brought home certainly has some very good stories with them so I am absolutely stoked and can´t wait for my taxidermist to be done with them. For the same reasons I don´t know how the accomodations and facilities in general compare to other outfitters but they were very comfortable and the food was excellent every meal so I am yet again very happy with those. One thing that I also want to mention is how incredibly helpful Stuart was from the moment I started planning the hunt until we got home and he has always given helpful answers to all my questions and helped solve all problems that came up. More than just your run of the mill hunting lodge.

If you want to get away from it all, we offer you an African camping experience bar none. And we do it in style: our luxury tented camps, one in northwestern Namibia and the other in the Caprivi, provide all the facilities and amenities your heart could desire. All you have to do is sit back and relax. There’s nothing quite like a crackling campfire, the distant roar of a lion and a star-lit African sky after an exciting day’s hunt.

For those who prefer to do their shooting with a camera, we offer splendid game drives from Omujeve Lodge, through one of the most starkly beautiful places in the world, where you can see nature at its most awe-inspiring. Wildlife on our 11 000-hectare property is a big viewing attraction, but the landscapes, birdlife and plantlife of Namibia are every bit as breathtaking. Because we never hunt from our vehicles, we are able to treat you to very close encounters in the rawest and most beautiful of Africa’s environments.

For those who wish to dip their toes back into city life – or for spouses or children who would like to be kept entertained while one family member hunts – we offer tailored tours to Windhoek. This vibrant city offers a wealth of shopping opportunities, and plenty to see and do.

A favourite activity for kids (of all ages!) is our angling trips to the West Coast Recreational Area at Swakopmund on the Atlantic Ocean. Here, budding junior anglers and those with more experience can cast for gamefish and sharks (catch-and-release), at sea or from the shore.

With parental approval and permission, our professional hunters are willing to work with children, teaching them how to handle and fire a rifle. They start with a .22 and, if appropriate, may work their way up to higher-calibre guns.

The dining room with its bar, entertainment area, and generous verandah is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day. All meals, lovingly and expertly prepared by a team of chefs trained by prize-winning foodie Elsada Kruger, will linger in your memory long after the last bite has been savoured. We specialise in game dishes, and use organically homegrown ingredients harvested from our farm.
