Frequently asked questions about Malaysia

Ans: You can book a Malaysia tour package at any time in the year as the country enjoys different weather conditions in its eastern and western parts. As Malaysia is near the equator, the weather is hot and humid all year round with spells of rain. The best time to visit the eastern part of Malaysia is from April to October when the weather is dry. If you are planning to visit the western part of Malaysia, it is best to travel between December to February. During this period, you can witness the Chinese New Year celebration, which is a 15-day festival and the Thaipusam festival. It is best to avoid the monsoon season as water sports and adventure activities are restricted. But the fun part is that you can visit the western part of the country when there are rains in the eastern part and vice-versa.

Ans: A Malaysia tour package has a wide range of adventure activities lined up for the adrenaline junkies. Activities like tandem skydiving, hot air ballooning and microlight flying give a bird’s eye view of the surroundings. These activities are thrilling but are not meant for the light-hearted. Most of them are available in Kuala Lumpur. If you want to try parasailing, visit Langkawi Island, one of the top destinations in Malaysia for adventure sports. Participate in the Putra Jaya Hot Air Balloon Fiesta or you can enjoy a generic balloon ride any time during the year. If you are keen on a rendezvous with underwater marine life, then you should try adventure sports like scuba diving, underwater scooter, snorkelling etc. Most of the islands are great snorkelling and scuba diving destinations.

Ans: You can pick up plenty of items as souvenirs and gifts while on a Malaysia tour package. Kuala Lumpur is one of the best shopping destinations in Malaysia. For branded showrooms, KLCC is the best place. Street markets like Petaling Street, Taman Connaught Night Market, Kasturi Walk are famous for fake-label handbags, watches, t-shirts etc. Malaysia is well-known for Pewter (tin) products like flower vases, beer mugs, pen holders etc. These well-crafted articles can serve as ideal gifts. Don’t forget to buy Batik, which is a hand-made printed fabric. Durian flavoured chocolates and cakes are also a good option for people who love sweets.

Ans: Malaysian food is influenced by Chinese, Indian and Malay cuisine. Mee Goreng Mamak is a type of noodle dish cooked using vegetables and meat of your choice. It is a popular street food that shouldn’t be missed. Nasi Lemak is quintessential to the Malaysian lifestyle. Rice is cooked in coconut milk and is served with eggs, peanuts, meat curry and a sauce. Apam Balik is a pancake-style snack that is a favourite dessert of the local people. Laska, a staple food of Malaysia, that has gained popularity abroad, has many variations. This thick noodle soup is topped with prawns, fish or chicken. You must try this dish while you are in Malaysia. Another delicious dish that is a must-try on a trip with a Malaysia tour package is Roti Jala (net bread) with chicken gravy.

Microsoft’s Satya Nadella adds AI for Thailand on South-East Asia tour

Microsoft Corp will invest in artificial intelligence infrastructure and set up its first Azure data centre in Thailand, part of a push to expand its footprint in fast-growing South-East Asia.

The OpenAI backer sees AI adding as much as US$1 trillion (RM4.76 trillion) in value to the region, chief executive officer Satya Nadella said during a company event in Bangkok Wednesday. “Even in Thailand, double-digit growth of over US$100bil (RM476.75bil) plus can be driven, because of the productivity curve that can be bent by AI,” he said.

The software maker the previous day unveiled a US$1.7bil (RM8.10bil) outlay in Indonesia, to be made over four years.

Nadella’s tour of South-East Asia, which includes a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, follows high-profile visits by Nvidia Corp’s Jensen Huang and Apple Inc’s Tim Cook to the region, where Chinese and US tech titans as well as local startups are locked in a fierce battle in pursuit of growth. Thailand’s economy has fallen behind, however, attracting less foreign direct investment than its peers as it grapples with soaring public and household debt and an ageing population.

Microsoft has been expanding its cloud and artificial intelligence offerings, capitalising on technology from OpenAI. That helped lift sales and profit above expectations in the March quarter, with Nadella last week telling analysts that Azure took market share from rivals. – Bloomberg
