New Shawshank Bus Tour takes visitors to 'The Shawshank Redemption' filming sites

A new addition to the Ohio State Reformatory prison-turned-museum is not your grandpa's prison bus.

The new Shawshank Bus Tours will stop at 10 filming sites of "The Shawshank Redemption," which was filmed in and around Richland County. Tours, which allow visitors to get out and take photographs of iconic sites from the film, will last about four and a half hours.

Offered at 10 a.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with some added at noon on Sundays, the tours are available now through Sept. 3. Tours will take place on a new wheelchair-accessible tour bus wrapped with bold images from "The Shawshank Redemption" movie and attractions, according to a news release from Destination Mansfield.

Cost of a ticket on the 40-passenger bus, which includes a walking tour of the prison, is $99. For information or tickets, visit MRPS.org and click on the tours link .

Offered rain or shine to guests 13 and older, the guided bus tour features stories and a visit to 10 key filming spots from around the county, including:

• Pugh Cabin at Malabar Farm State Park, where the opening scenes were filmed.
• The Bissman Building , which represented the Brewer Hotel where Brooks, played by James Whitmore, stayed and hanged himself soon after being paroled from the Shawshank Prison. The building also was used as the front office of the Portland Daily Bugle. To the south, looking toward the City Mills Building at Fifth and Main streets, is where Brooks tried desperately to cross Fifth Street on his way to the Brewer Hotel.
• Mansfield Antiques Gallery in the Historic Carrousel District, which represented the pawn shop window where Red spots the compass that will lead him to the oak tree.
• Central Park in downtown Mansfield , where Brooks sat to feed the birds, hoping his pet crow, Jake, would show up to say hello.
• KV Mart , which represented the Food-Way Grocery Store where both Brooks and Red worked bagging groceries. In a well-known movie continuity blunder, crews failed to remove a 1994 Ohio Lottery sign.
• The tour replicates Red’s Road to Buxton Trailways bus ride on Ohio 95 and Hagerman Road in Butler after being released from the Shawshank Prison.
• The group will visit the spot where Red got out of the red pickup and the site of the Shawshank Oak Tree, where Morgan Freeman’s character walked along a hayfield and removed stones from a rock wall where Andy left a letter.
• The Renaissance Theatre in downtown Mansfield , where the movie premiered in 1994.
• Another stop allows guests to explore another Mansfield Hollywood connection at Malabar Farm State Park. The 900-acre country estate was home to Pulitzer Prize-winning author, farmer and conservationist, Louis Bromfield. Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall married at the estate, which was a frequent hideaway for a number of stars during Hollywood’s heyday in the 1940s and '50s.

Final stop on tour the historic Ohio State Reformatory

The final stop on the tour is a full 90-minute "Hollywood Meets History" walking tour of the Ohio State Reformatory, 100 Reformatory Road off Ohio 545, which starred as Shawshank Prison. It's the prison’s most comprehensive tour. Attendees will explore the reformatory’s historical prison timeline along with iconic spots, including the warden’s living quarters. Guests will check out the new Shawshank Museum and learn about the building’s important architecture, how it was saved from the wrecking ball and about other films and music videos shot on site.

The filming of  "The Shawshank Redemption"  at the historic Ohio State Reformatory and much of north central Ohio in 1993 has since attracted visitors worldwide to the historic prison turned museum in Mansfield. The prison is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Pitbull announces Party After Dark concert tour: T-Pain, Lil Jon to join as special guests

Dale! Mr. Worldwide is hitting the road once again.

Latin rap star Pitbull is set to deliver a mix of his career-spanning hits on the upcoming Party After Dark Tour. The U.S. trek follows numerous successful solo tours for the "Give Me Everything" rapper, including the triple-headlining Trilogy Tour with Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin .

Produced by Live Nation, the 26-city tour kicks off on Aug. 21 in Bristow, Virginia, making stops across the U.S. before wrapping in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Oct. 5.  Fellow rappers T-Pain and Lil Jon will serve as a special guests on the tour.

The Grammy-winning Pitbull is known for a slew of hit singles , including "Fireball," "Timber" with Kesha , "Hotel Room Service," "Give Me Everything" with Afrojack and Ne-Yo and "Time of Our Lives" with Ne-Yo.

T-Pain, known for singles like "Bartender," "Buy U a Drank" and "Booty Wurk" is popular for his use of auto-tune pitch with electronic-style vocal performances. His most recent album, "On Top of The Covers," was released in 2023.

Lil Jon will join the pair on two tour dates, in Ridgefield, Washington and Chula Vista, California. The rapper and DJ is known for the tracks "Turn Down For What," "Shots," "Get Low" and "Yeah!" with Usher and Ludacris. He was most recently featured on the Pitbull track "Jumpin" in 2023.

Imagine Dragons sets area concert date in support of new album 'Loom'

Tickets for the show go on sale this week..

"Radioactive" rock act Imagine Dragons is headed to Pine Knob on its upcoming summer tour, promoters announced Monday.

The Las Vegas rockers will perform at the Clarkston amphitheater on Aug. 12, part of the group's 29-date tour in support of its new album "Loom." Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, with pre-sales starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

"Loom" is due out June 28 and is the group's sixth album. It follows the double album "Mercury," which was released in two parts in 2021 and 2022.

The tour kicks off July 30 in Camden, New Jersey, and wraps Oct. 22 in Los Angeles. Full dates are below.
