NBC Studio Tour in New York

Take a peek behind the scenes.

Image of author Steffen

Have you ever wondered how your favorite shows are being made? You can find out at the NBC Studio Tour that gives you behind-the-scenes access to many well-known shows. We participated in the TV and Movie Locations tour, including the NBC Studio Tour inside Rockefeller Center and learned about every step of the TV production process. Oh, and we also got to see some celebrities on the way!

The Movie Locations and NBC Studio Tour in New York is a guided walk that consists of two different parts:

1. TV and Movie Locations Tour

First, your guide will show your around Midtown Manhattan to see some popular TV and Movie locations located in proximity to NBC Studios. These include film locations known from  Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Friends, Seinfeld, Sex and the City , Home Alone,  Gossip Girl , and a few others. Your guide will share some interesting facts with you, many of which actually surprised us! You’ll also have enough time to take photos at each of the locations. It’s a lot of fun trying to reproduce a few famous scenes!

2. NBC Studio Tour

In the second part of the tour, you head on over to Rockefeller Center to take the official NBC Studio Tour. During the NBC Studio Tour, you’ll get insights into the entire TV production process , starting from scriptwriting and producing to broadcasting and controlling. The tour highlight for most people, however, is seeing the film studios of the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the Today Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers and Saturday Night Live (SNL) . Which sets you will actually get to visit depends on whether the studio is available. Sometimes it might be the case that the studio is being prepared for the next show. That’s exactly what happened when we walked past the Saturday Night Live Studio. Did you know that they create every scene for SNL from scratch?

The good news is that the SNL studio has large windows that don’t even require you to go in to see the set!

Even when just walking through the hallway, you’ll see that everything is nicely decorated with plenty of photos and other memories from NBC’s history. The entire NBC Studios reach over several floors. It’s huge!

If you’re lucky you may even catch a glimpse of one of the shows or celebrities!

However, there is obviously no guarantee for that. During our tour, we happened to walk by Today Show host Al Roker.

At the end of the NBC Studio Tour, a unique interactive experience is awaiting you: you and your group are invited to produce your own TV segment . Another great thing about it is that you’ll get to keep the video of your show! It will be sent to you via email after the tour. This is the ultimate way of testing whether you’ve got what it takes to host your own talk show!

7 CHEAPER TICKET OPTIONS

There are a few different ways to save money on the NBC Studio Tour, including combo deals and promo sites.

1. Purchase a Combo Package

If you want to learn about more than just NBC Studio, this tour will also cover several TV/Movie filming locations in New York City.

This is a great way to get tickets when tickets are sold out, and it covers even more detail.

  • $84/Adults, Students | $79/Children
  • Winter/Spring Availability: Mon & Sat at 12 pm
  • Summer/Fall Availability: Mon, Thur-Sat at 12 pm
  • Duration: 3 – 3 ½ hours
  • Includes admission to the NBC Studio Tour.

2. Find Promos

Consider promo websites such as Groupon and LivingSocial .

They won't always have a promo for this tour but they always have offers on numerous top NYC attractions.

There are also other promo sites that you can find with a quick search. Just make sure to read the fine print.

3. Military Offers

NBC Studios currently offers a price cut of 25% off for all members of the military upon presenting a military ID.

You can only get this deal by purchasing tickets in person or over the phone.

4. Senior Citizen Offers

If you’re over the age of 55, you’re eligible to receive a price cut of $4 off the adult ticket price.

This is a much lower age requirement than most senior offers, ensuring that even more visitors will be able to take advantage of the deal.

5. Student Offers

Unfortunately, this tour does not include any regular student ticket pricing (as of March 2024).

This could change in the future, and we suggest calling them before making a purchase to see if one does exist.

6. AAA Offers

AAA offers several deals on a variety of popular activities and attractions in NYC, but sadly they do not currently offer any price cuts on NBC Studio Tour tickets.

7. Consider Getting a Tourist Pass

Although none of the concession passes in New York City currently offer any deals on the NBC Studio Tour, there are some other activities, attractions, and tours these services provide at no extra cost.

If you’re planning to visit NBC Studios, chances are you’ll also be close enough to the following attractions that you might want to consider getting a tourist pass to save some money on tickets.

  • Movie/TV Bus Tour
  • Empire State Building
  • Madison Square Garden Tour
  • Broadway & Times Square Tour

Find out more about how these services work on our post covering New York City tourist passes .

NBC STUDIO TOUR OVERVIEW

The marquee at NBC Studios in New York City. Image Source: Wikimedia user AndyLindgren on July 2nd, 2011.

Considering that this is the home of television shows like Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show, it probably shouldn't surprise anyone that the NBC Studio Tour is one of the most entertaining experiences offered at Rockefeller Center.

That being said, it might surprise you to discover that there's a lot more to do on this tour than learning about television studios.

Your tour will begin at NBC's new 4K theater, where you will be shown a short film that delves into the history of NBC.

From here, your guide will show you around the studios, taking the time to point out some of the finer details of their art deco rotunda.

Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the NBC Production Gallery, a location filled with rare photographs and videos from throughout the history of the network.

As you walk through the building you'll see at least two different studios, some of which may be in regular use for live television productions.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to visit any studios that are currently in use, but some guests indicate that you might see a celebrity like Jimmy Fallon on his way to work.

In addition to visiting historic television studios, you'll also get a look behind the scenes at the NBC Broadcast Operations Center.

At the end of your tour, you'll visit a studio specifically created for tourists. This area is designed to give guests the chance to create their own television show.

Each visitor will have a role to play, allowing everyone to experience what it's like to work on a live production.

When the tour is over, they will send you an email with a link to the show you recorded at NBC Studios!

REVIEWS OF THE NBC STUDIO TOUR

The tour at NBC Studios currently has an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars on TripAdvisor.

Although that's definitely a good score, it doesn't exactly tell you everything you might want to know about the experience.

Taking this into account, let's find out why people loved or hated this stroll through the studios.

Learn About Production

Many reviews indicate that this is an excellent opportunity to learn about how live television is produced.

Visitors appreciate the chance to see where current television shows are recorded and broadcast to the world.

This tour is highly recommended for media buffs and anyone interested in finding out more about the subject of television.

See Famous Studios

Guests who take this tour seem to love seeing famous shooting locations at NBC Studios.

Reviewers commonly visit the studios of Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show, and NBC Nightly News.

According to several comments, tour guides provide a lot of interesting information about both the history of these studios and how they are currently used.

Behind-the-Scenes

Visitors typically enjoy the chance to see behind the scenes of their favorite television shows.

In addition to learning about television production, they also get to see where some of their favorite celebrities go to work.

Some reviewers have even noted that they actually saw stars like Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon during this tour.

Somewhat Expensive

Even guests who enjoyed their tour at NBC Studios felt that the experience was a little pricey.

Considering that the studio tour is between 60-75 minutes on average, the ticket price might be a bit too expensive for some visitors.

Although this wasn't a problem for most reviewers, others didn't think the service provided was worth the cost of admission.

Make Your Own TV Show

This is one of the most popular activities included in the NBC Studio tour.

While some guests were unhappy that they missed out on the chance to play more significant roles, a majority of tourists enjoyed the chance to make their own television show.

After all, it's not every day that you have the opportunity to work on actual production in a real television studio!

See the Control Rooms

In addition to seeing the studios where live television shows are shot, you'll also visit the control rooms where producers manage audio and visual details.

Guests seem to appreciate this rare look at the technology that is used to make NBC's live content.

Some reviewers even refer to this area as the place "where the magic happens."

Short Movie

Although some visitors were unimpressed with this feature, others enjoyed the short film that was prepared for the introduction to the NBC Studios tour.

This video goes into some preliminary detail about the history of NBC and its programming.

Most reviewers were at least somewhat pleased with this prologue to their journey.

Morning in my opinion. Better chance of bumping into people there to interview on the Today show. It's how we got to meet Hoda and be on a segment at the end of our tour in September last year.

How long is the tour?

45-60 minutes depending on group queries!

We had a tour this morning and brought 10 students of our Media Literacy program from Love of Learning Montessori school. Molly and Antu were our pages. They were phenomenal!!!! I cannot recommend them or this tour more highly. We all felt that there was just the right amount of historical info, awesome access, and technical understanding. Our pages were knowledgeable, professional, friendly and entertaining. This is a great tour for anyone. In our case these kids are very production savvy and the pages were able to pivot so effortlessly between the varied interests of our students.

Not worth going to the NBC studio tour. Just looking at empty rooms, see some videos, some elevator rides, not allowed to take photos, it's ok if it's free, otherwise, use the money to eat some delicious food at nearby food trucks recommended by yelp, and take some pictures at the Shop. Don't bother going.

It's fine, but I think I expected more polished tour guides, working action, and more content integration. The highlight for me was seeing Studio 8H, and I got the feeling that there is a demand for tours that specialize solely on SNL. As a lifelong superfan, it is a treat to see the stage from the audience, with the musical stage next to the monologue stage, which doubles as weekend update, with two separate set pieces, all under the iconic clock. But it would be nice to get on the floor level, especially through the doors where monologists often stray. I would love to see a llama up close. They should consider such a tour one day a week that includes Wally's cue card team, prop room, costumes, control booth, etc. I would pay big money if such a tour included the dress rehearsal or actual show, rather than relying on standby, a lottery, or giving Andrew Dismukes a "massage". We were there on a Tuesday just before Shane Gillis and 21 Savage shot their promos, but we were ushered out like interlopers instead of being treated as the audience we hoped we could be. The second highlight was the interactive segment, which they only added post-Covid. They gave each member of our group of twelve a role. Some kid who couldn't read the teleprompter was our host (he was no Letter Man). Another kid was his guest. Some lady volunteered me for the "contestant", which I didn't want. (I tried to volunteer here for the janitor.) We also had three people in a "band", one "announcer", and the ugly people worked the cameras and control booth. The whole thing is scripted and videotaped, sent free to the guests, which is a nice touch. The whole thing is well-intentioned though a little hokey- they should have Seth Myers take a look at the script and punch it up. Truth is, except for the last part, I think this would be very boring for a kid unless they are a fan of SNL. Or elevators. The third highlight was entering a newsroom studio, where a girl in charge of audio took the time to point out the director, stagehand, and cameraman prepping the timing of the teleprompter. During that time we saw a screen projecting Biden the winner of the election taking place in nine months and I joked they leaked the script. They laughed and assured me it was practice. If I am found "unresponsive in my cell", please remember this review. The rest is basically three videos about NBC history, a look into mostly empty control rooms beyond a glass window, and hanging out in hallways, hoping to catch a glimpse of Keith Morrison (ok, maybe that was just me). I get that the focus was on NBC history, I would have loved to see more content integration, like chronological or thematic montage videos or props/costumes of popular NBC programming. Even though they weren't filmed there, I want to put on Ross' leather pants, drop a Junior Mint into a patient's body, close Ron Swanson's office door by remote, anything but a beverage with Dr. Huxtable.

It's like that thing where they make you wait in a gift shop full of Golden Girls Monopoly and giant Jimmy Fallon heads.

We stumbled across the NBC Studios Tour by accident as we were walking by. Of course, we decided we had to do it. I've always been a HUGE Saturday Night Live fan and it was pretty amazing to see the actual studio and how small it really was. There are hundreds of lights on the ceiling because apparently it's bad luck to remove the old ones when they stop working. At the end of the tour we got to make our own little show and of course it was very similar to the famous "Cow Bell" sketch. I played the tambourine. It was a fun time. Afterwards we went to the shop and bought some souvenirs. One of them of course, was a "I need more Cowbell" shirt!

Early morning and we just finished the taping of the TODAY show. Not sure if we actually made it on TV, but it was a fun experience making our Aloha signs and cheering on! On Weds, JuIy 3rd, I saw Carson Daly, Craig Melvin, and Sheinelle Jones live in person from the TODAY show window at Rockefeller Center and when they made their way out to do a segment outdoors. During the taping we received a 10% discount coupon for merchandise at the NBC Studios store. At the store is where we learned about The Tour backstage. Since we had extra time to spare, we decided to do it and paid $33 for each ticket. The gal said she was able to squeeze two of us in, otherwise we would've had to come back another day (it was very busy!). The coolest part of the tour was sitting on the second level of the SNL studio (usually only VIPs sit on the ground floor) and standing inside the set of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Since Fallon was on hiatus, we were lucky enough to tour the seating area and see his desk at a Birdseye view. It is said that Fallon wants his visitors to feel like they're VIP so everyone gets to sit in a chair made out of red Ferrari leather! And of course he has the the red carpets rolled out as you enter and walk down the aisle! Unfortunately, photo taking was not allowed during the 1-hour tour. But, at the end, our group participated in an interview segment and NBC emailed a link of the recording to all of us. I took snap shots of the video, so hopefully they will appear in this review. Other fun things about the tour....an "Applause" magnetic button to keep as a souvenir, seeing actual workers in the halls (like make-up artists in action), the Hall of Fame photos along the walls, an ode to The Muppets in Fallon's closet, and listening to the interns (from the NBCUniversal Page Program) talk about the history of the building and cast members - they were our tour guides. Fun things after the tour....browse around the NBC store some more. Check out the NBC mugs, the original news desk, The Voice chair, and merchandise from your favorite tv shows like Friends and Fallon.

After reading some good reviews, I booked this for 3pm in a Sunday. I was disappointed that I did. I travel quite a bit and take many tours so I've done the universal tour, etc. This one doesn't come close. They basically take you to three empty studios where they film talk shows. They all look similar with differently designed walls. You stand at the top and look down at a bunch of chairs and tables covered with sheets and they talk for 5 mins. Did not see any of the actual sitcom or show studios which would have been nice. Then three people in the group record a little talk show. You are not allowed to take any pics along the way. I was bored. Hint: There don't seem to be any broadway shows on Sunday night and Monday's in NYC. So best to take this tour then, and rather go to a 2pm or 3pm broadway show on the Sunday. It will, in my opinion, be a much better way to spend Sunday afternoon in New York.

Jan 13, 2020

Hi Nadia, we're so sorry that The Tour was not what you were expecting! Unfortunately as sitcoms are filmed out in our studios on the West Coast, The Tour here in NYC features our in-house studios for late night shows such as The Tonight Show and SNL. We apologize for any misunderstanding as to what The Tour featured - and we'd love to make things right for you. We are sending you a message now!

Photo of Michael G.

My family and I had a really nice time with our Pages at our 10am tour on Sunday the 29th. Because it was a Sunday while shows were on a hiatus, we got to see an "extra" part of the facility besides the Nightly News studio, Saturday Night Live studio, Jimmy Fallon studio, and the hallways and lounges of the beautiful Art Deco building. There are so many photos on all the walls that there's not enough time to really view them. The "making of your own talk show" was a lot of fun and I can't wait to see the video that will be sent via email. Wife played host, kid played guest, and my other kid and I got to be in the house band. Hey, NBC, I'm writing this 12 hours later after our tour and didn't get our video! Our Pages were super helpful and fully answered our questions. They seemed very happy to give the tour and should be given a raise! It's too bad the internship only lasts a year, but maybe someday I'll see one on on TV and I could say I remember when... The tour ends at a gift shop, of course. Pass. Even with the coupon. No pictures allowed. You'll have to pay the $33 each to go for yourself. Or, try to win one of the ticket lotteries to see a taping of Jimmy Fallon or SNL. Pretty cool tour.

Jan 6, 2020

Hi Michael, thank you very much for this in-depth review of The Tour! We're so glad to see you had a great time - however, so sorry that you didn't receive your video! We're sending you a message to get that to you today. Thanks for joining us!

Photo of Laila R.

Unfortunately they don't allow cameras in this tour, but I highly recommend it. It was so great! I knew we were going to see a lot behind the scenes stuff but I had no idea we would be seeing the sets to so many iconic shows like SNL. That was so awesome! I loved that they even let us get a taste of what its like to work on a talk show set. We all got parts on the set and they even recorded it and emailed it to all if us on the tour. It comes complete with our names on the credits and all. We even got to keep a cute little magnetic pin to take home. Buy tickets to go to the Top of the Rock too. The view is spectacular!

Dec 23, 2019

Hi Laila - thanks for the wonderful review! We are thrilled to see that you had such a great experience on The Tour and so glad you could join us behind the scenes here at 30 Rock!

Photo of Arlene M.

In all my visits to NYC here was one place that was right by my hotel and kept missing it! Located in the Rockefeller tower AKA 30 Rock you are given a 1 1/2 guided tour of three sets of your favorite NBC shows broadcast here in NYC. Tickets can be and I recommend purchased online in advance so you can secure your tour time and when you print your ticket you will get a voucher for 10% off in their gift shop. It is noted on your ticket to arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled tour since you will gather about 15 minutes prior. When my son and I arrived (we entered through the gift shop entry) our tickets were scanned and we had some free time to browse for gifts and pose for pictures. Mock up sets of the Today show and the judging chair on the Voice are there for fun shots. The gift shop also holds a lot of nostalgia like the old microphone used in radio days as well as a broadcast camera. Shopping for some of your old and current shows? They have Seinfeld, Friends, the Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon, The Today show as well as their logo and stuff from the recently finished Rio games. Photography is not permitted on the tour but you can carry water. After an introductory video we were taken to the third floor to set the set of the Nightly News with Lester Holt. We learned a lot into what goes on making the news and as always don't be fooled by that newsroom reel in the background. It was done in California and run on that traditional "blue screen." Next stop we visited was the set of Saturday Night live. Along the way there are pictures of the old shows as well as the current ones. Located on the 5th and 6th floors, we got to see where the audience gathers preshow and then taken into the studio. Our chairs were old seats from Yankee stadium. Our guides went over the sets how the production is run, the dress rehearsal you can get tickets for as well and how easy it is to transition from one set to another in a few minutes. Our last studio we visited was the Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon. We learned about the history of the show. The good luck pole he alway goes by that has remnants of the Muppets on it and then went upstairs to the audience area where we viewed the set. We were told where he does his monologue. The desk and chairs for guests and some of the fun things he does on the show. Now it is our turn. We were taken into a mock set where you can be the host, guest star, announcer, part of the band, the camera man, or the people behind the scenes that do the necessary work to adjust the lighting or sound to make the experience personal. I volunteered to be the host and it was fun seeing how many telepromters they have not only on the camera but also at the desk which was Jimmy Fallon's original desk. We did a 5 minute clip and then they emailed us a copy as a gift. The final segment of the tour shows how they broadcast all over the country even if there are transmission problems in NY. Feel free to ask questions and learn about the history of TV as well as behind the scenes of your favorite shows. A truly not to be missed attraction in NYC. Most definitely will return here. Outstanding tour!

NBC TV Studio Tours In New York City

A tour of the new york city nbc studios which includes the snl and late night studios, nbc studio tour.

The NBC Studio Tour is one of the most popular attractions in New York City. The NBC tour takes visitors through the corridors of the famed 30 Rockefeller Center building (even more famous now thanks to Tina Fey’s SNL-inspired sitcom 30 Rock). You will learn all about NBC’s days as a radio network and its transition to television in the NBC History Theatre, while the Sharp HDTV Theater stop offers visitors a glimpse of the future with a spectacular presentation on its high-definition 130-degree screen.

But most people agree that the best part of the NBC Studio Tour is seeing the actual studios where some of NBC’s greatest shows are filmed, including Saturday Night Live, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, NBC Sports, Nightlight News, and Dateline. Because one or more of these shows might actually be filming at the time of your tour, the NBC pages can’t take you to all of these, but usually two or three are available for viewing at any given time. Be sure to keep your eye out for NBC stars and other celebrities who can occasionally be found walking the halls of 30 Rock.

You can now go behind-the-scenes on The Tour at NBC Studios

See what it takes to put on ’SNL’ and late-night TV on this relaunched a 30 Rock tour.

Rossilynne Skena Culgan

Every weekend, Saturday Night Live bursts onto the screen on NBC with sketches that make viewers across the nation laugh, groan, and guffaw. The decades-long comedy institution can feel like something of a mystery, as free tickets are notoriously hard to get.

But now, fans of the show can go behind the scenes of SNL and other beloved programs like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Kelly Clarkson Show  with newly relaunched tours of 30 Rock. The Tour at NBC Studios paused amid the pandemic, but they're now back and revamped for 2024. We took the tour—led by NBC Pages , of course—and found several fascinating secrets to share. But there's lots more to learn on the tour, which is bookable here for $48/person.

1. 30 Rock has a long history in TV

NBC moved into the building in 1933. Just three years later, NBC Radio broadcasted the historic 1936 Berlin Olympics. The Berlin Olympics were the first games to be televised. Over the years, 30 Rock has been home to the Today Show, NBC Nightly News, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, Late Night with Seth Meyers , and more.

Two people host a pretend late-night show.

2. The entire building is TV-ready

Any part of the Art Deco building can be used for television, even a basic staircase which the Jonas Brothers once used for a performance.

3. SNL musicians get to call the shots

Musicians get their own stage during the comedy show, and they get complete creative control to execute their vision. To see it in action, here are NPR's picks for the top musical performances on SNL.

4. They still use physical cue cards

Paper cue cards may seem like a relic of the 1960s, but they're still in use on SNL . Because the sketches have so much movement around the stage, it's easier to move around with paper cue cards than to leave the work to a robot.

Since both Fallon and Meyers are SNL alumni, they got used to physical cue cards and still use those on their late-night shows.

The stage where Late Night with Seth Meyers is filmed.

5. The seconds before SNL starts are pure chaos

There's an old joke about SNL in the industry: "The show doesn’t start because it's ready. It starts because it's 11:30."

Indeed, the NBC Pages explain, even at the 10-second countdown, the team is often still doing make-up and making any final touches before the cameras kick on.

6. SNL 's main stage was inspired by NYC

The set is meant to look like Grand Central Station, even down to a replica of the bustling train station's clock.

7. Some of the equipment dates back decades

Over 700 lights hang in the SNL studio to illuminate the stage—and some of them even date back to the original show. If you get a chance to take the tour (or see SNL !), look for the old NBC logo on some of the lights.

8. They go through a lot of wigs

During a typical Saturday night show, the SNL cast can cycle through 100 wigs per show.

nbc studio tour cost

The studio tour at NBC isn't free, but it is reasonably priced when compared with the cost of the tours provided by the local motion picture studios. NBC's $8.50 admission charge seems like a bargain compared with the $69 charged by Universal Studios or the $45 charged by nearby Warner Brothers . It also beats the $15 price of the Paramount Studios tour.

The NBC tour is a modest one, though. You'll find no audioanimatronic sharks snapping at your heels here, no 50-foot apes or flying DeLoreans. Unlike Universal , the NBC Studio tour is not a theme park in disguise.

And unlike the Warner Bros tour, there are no mini trams or giant back lots to explore. It's just a 70-minute, indoor walking tour, offering a down-to-earth view of a working television studio.

nbc studio tour cost

Then it is up to Studio Three , the set where the " Tonight Show " is taped. (Jay Leno moved the show to this building in 1994, from the historic Studio One where Johnny Carson taped his shows.) There, tour guests get to sit in the same seats as the " Tonight Show " studio audience and see that famous, familiar " Tonight Show " set up-close.

The tour shows you videos about NBC's history, gives you demonstrations of sound-effects machines, and explains how such TV effects as 'chroma key' is brought to life. You might even bump into a minor celebrity along the way. And they accomplish all of this in less than 90 minutes. It's a polished, professional little tour which probably satisfies most tourists' urge for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of some aspect of Hollywood.

The problem is that the NBC tour is just a little too slick.  In fact, it's superficial - bordering on condescending.

nbc studio tour cost

You get the feeling that someone in charge thinks the tour guests have just fallen off the turnip truck.

When soap opera actress Deidre Hall (from " Days of Our Lives ") "accidentally" walks by and waves hello, you're supposed to believe that it was a blissful coincidence.

nbc studio tour cost

Guests are "treated like tourists" in the worst sense of that term. The well groomed tour guides are friendly and polite, but you are always aware that, as a visitor, you are being kept on a very tight leash. What you see along their short, carefully-orchestrated tour route is what they want you to see - a shallow presentation designed to satisfy the supposedly unsophisticated hordes of tourists with a bare minimum of realism, while keeping them well out of the way of actual studio operations.

Don't come here expecting to explore the secrets of a working TV studio. Most of what they show you is about as spontaneous as a museum display, and the tour group is often simply routed into separate little rooms where they can be amused, but kept safely out from underfoot.

So is the tour worth the price of admission? Well, the cost ($8.50) is certainly low enough, the tour is polished & mildly entertaining, and you do get to take a look inside one of the most famous television studios in Hollywood, however cursory that look might be.  I suppose that just being able to see the inside of the " Tonight Show " studio (without standing in line for hours) might be worth the price of admission for many folks. But at its heart, the tour is a sham... it could be so much better if only it were more authentic and just a bit more spontaneous. You might be better off simply getting free tickets to the Tonight Show .

A word about crowds: I took the tour at 11 AM on a weekday in late October, and there were about twenty other people in my casual, relaxed group. But I am told that the tours gets much more crowded during the peak summer tourist season, especially on summer weekends when they can sell out early. I suggest you try to visit during the off-season.

Admission Price :

Adults:                 $8.50 Seniors (60+):     $7.50 Children (5 12)    $5.00 (Children under 5 free.)

Hours : Tours depart at regular intervals from 9 AM to 1 PM on weekdays (Mon-Fri). Closed on Saturday & Sunday (except during peak summer & holiday seasons, when they are open extended hours and on weekends). Phone ahead to be sure.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Who Will Be on the U.S. Women's Olympic Soccer Team? USWNT Boasts No Shortage of Star Power

Led by a wave of new stars like Naomi Girma, Jaedyn Shaw, and Sophia Smith, and a new coach, the women's national squad is a team in transition.

nbc studio tour cost

Despite the retirement of soccer icons Megan Rapinoe and Julie Ertz, this year’s U.S. Women’s National Team has more than enough talent to put its best foot forward at the 2024 Paris Olympics .

The USWNT is the all-time winningest team since women’s soccer became an Olympic event in 1996 – notching four gold medals, a silver, and a bronze over that span. It has, however, been a while since the sport was dominated by Americans, as Canada took gold in the 2020 Tokyo Games and Germany came away with top honors in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

This is now a time of transition for the program.

Alex Morgan, who will turn 35 before the opening ceremony, is the lone remaining player from the 2012 London Olympics -- the last time the U.S. won gold in the event -- and her spot in the top 18 this time around is not assured.

Success at the Olympics has been elusive ever since, with the bronze medal won at the COVID-delayed Tokyo Games considered a disappointment. The true nadir came with last year’s early exit from the World Cup in the Round of 16, a shocking loss that ultimately cost head coach Vlatko Andonovski his job.

New Faces on the Pitch ... and on the Sideline

This year, though, feels different. The team, having undergone a youth movement, is fresh off a SheBelieves Cup title victory in penalty kicks over archrival Canada on April, coming just a month after winning the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup.

Team USA will enter the Summer Games with both momentum and motivation.

“We have a little chip on our shoulder, [but] I think we always play like that honestly,” midfielder Rose Lavelle told NBC’s TODAY in April.

Alex Morgan and Lindsey Horan lift up the SheBelieves Cup trophy after winning

The Olympic squad will be led by a new coach, Emma Hayes, who comes over from Chelsea in the Women’s Super League with a championship pedigree on both sides of the Atlantic -- including previous stops with the Long Island Lady Riders and Iona College.

“She’s a serial winner,” USWNT star defender Crystal Dunn  recently told Front Row Soccer of Hayes, for whom she played at Chelsea during the 2017-18 Women’s Super League Season. "I can expect her to just be an all-time professional coach who knows what it takes of get the job done and is going to bring great intensity.”

RELATED:  Olympian Allyson Felix Announces the Birth of Her 2nd Child — and Reveals His Name

Hayes will have a talented squad with which to work: A smattering of experienced veterans, including midfielder Lindsay Horan and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, to mix with a batch of young stars like Naomi Girma, Sophia Smith and Jaedyn Shaw. She’ll have to cut the roster down to the Olympic-mandated 18 players, down from the 23-player roster at most tournaments.

They will have a challenge navigating an international field that has closed the talent gap since the glory days of the program.

Here’s a look at the players who could make the final roster tasked with representing the U.S. in Paris:

Goalkeepers

Alyssa naeher.

A pillar of the U.S. team for a decade, Naeher ranks third all-time in caps, wins and shutouts for a goalkeeper in U.S. history. The 35-year-old has won two FIFA Women’s World Cup Championships and a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and is the NWSL’s all-time leader in both saves and appearances. She is the unquestioned starter on the 2024 Olympic squad.

Casey Murphy

At 6-foot-1, Murphy is the tallest goalkeeper in USWNT history. The 27-year-old made an impressive debut for the USWNT, going unbeaten in her first nine starts. The North Carolina Courage star gives the national squad a strong backup.

Jane Campbell

Crowned the 2023 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year after a superlative season for the Houston Dash last year, Campbell seems to have cemented her spot as the third keeper on the roster. Campbell, 29, made the team as the third goalkeeper in both the Gold Cup and the SheBelieves Cup this year. With a shortened bench at the Olympics, however, it’s unlikely the team will carry a third goalkeeper.

The US Women's National Team pose together after the SheBelieves Cup final football match

Naomi Girma

With the 2023 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year honor under her belt and a dominant performance on an otherwise disappointing World Cup squad last year, the 23-year-old Girma is primed to go from being the face of the future of the American squad to a pillar of the present. The Stanford grad now stars for the San Diego Wave, and is the first player of Ethiopian descent to earn a spot on the USWNT.

Crystal Dunn

A versatile player, Dunn, 31, was a star on the 2019 FIFA World Cup-winning squad. In 2015, the then-23-year-old won both the NWSL Most Valuable Player and the Golden Boot awards, becoming the youngest player to win both honors. She now plays for Gotham FC, close to her hometown of Rockville Centre, Long Island.

Tierna Davidson

A teammate of Dunn’s at Gotham, the 25-year-old Davidson is up and running after a 2022 ACL tear kept her out of last year’s World Cup. The play-making center back helped Stanford to a 2017 NCAA championship and was drafted first overall in the 2019 NWSL College Draft by the Chicago Red Stars. Davidson was the youngest member of the American 2019 World Cup-winning team.

RELATED:  Who's on Team USA? Here's a List of the Athletes Qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics

Abby Dahlkemper

A dominant tackler at center-back, the 30-year-old has been a perennial winner at every level she’s played, representing the U.S. since 2010 when she first appeared for the U-17s, a squad she captained. She helped lead UCLA it its first national championship in women’s soccer in 2013, and also won three championships in her first four seasons in the NWSL.

Considered one of the best fullbacks in the world, Fox signed with Arsenal of the Women’s Super League in January after three years in the NWSL. Fox  led Team USA with 26 interceptions in international play last year. The 25-year-old adds speed, defensive reliability, and an ability to go on the attack from the backfield.

Jenna Nighswonger

One of the newer faces on the top USWNT squad, the 23-year-old defender and Florida State product is still a veteran of the national program, having made the U-17 team at the age of 14. Nighswonger is fresh off a 2023 NWSL Rookie of the Year for Gotham FC.

Casey Krueger

Another veteran presence in the back half of the field, Krueger has overcome two torn ACLs and a serious ankle injury over her career. She remains an unsung hero of the national team, providing shutdown one-on-one coverage on defense.

Becky Sauerbrunn

Second to only Ashley Morgan in time logged for the USWNT among active players, the 38-year-old Sauerbrunn missed the 2023 World Cup with an injury and has not made the rosters for the last two international tournaments. It’s looking increasingly unlikely that the former captain, who won the NWSL Defender of the Year three years in a row from 2013-15, will get a chance to bow out from the international stage at a fourth Olympics.

Midfielders

Rose lavelle.

The only obstacle that could keep the star 28-year-old Gotham FC midfielder out of a spot on the Olympic squad is a lower leg injury suffered during the Gold Cup tournament in March. Lavelle, the first overall draft pick in the NWSL in 2017, is one of the most dynamic players on the U.S. squad. She scored one of the biggest goals in U.S. Soccer history to clinch the 2019 World Cup final game against the Netherlands.

Lindsey Horan and Rose Lavelle pose with the the championship trophy

Lindsey Horan

A USWNT captain who will turn 30 before the Summer Games, Horan will be playing in her third Olympics. She became the first American female player to turn professional straight out of high school when she signed with Paris Saint-Germain in 2012. Horan would go on to score 46 goals in 58 appearances for the French club before heading back to the States to join the Portland Thorns, which she would lead to a NWSL championship in 2017 and win the league MVP the following season.

Another potential Olympic first-timer, the 25-year-old defensive midfielder is known as a fantastic passer. Though Coffey was left off the 2023 World Cup squad, she has been regularly included on the USWNT roster this year. Coffey was key cog in the Portland Thorns squad that won the 2022 NWSL Championship and was named an NWSL MVP finalist in 2023. Sports is in her blood: Her father, Wayne, was a long-time sportswriter for the New York Daily News, and her sister, Alex, is the Phillies beat-writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

RELATED: Simone Biles opens up about "Twisties" Struggles, Viral Backlash to Her Husband's Interview

Korbin Albert

At 20, Albert is another relatively new addition to the team. The Notre Dame product is already establishing herself as an offensive force from the midfield at Paris Saint-Germain. Her image took a major hit, however, when she was exposed for sharing homophobic and transphobic posts on TikTok . Albert publicly apologized in March after USWNT legend Rapinoe seemingly called her out. Forming an effective double-pivot with Coffey during the USWNT’s Gold Cup run, Albert should also make the final Olympic roster.

Emily Sonnett

An unsung part of two World Cup squads and the last Olympics teams, the 30-year-old veteran can play multiple spots in the midfield. She currently plays for Gotham FC of the NWSL.

Olivia Moultrie

A soccer protégé, Moultre signed an endorsement deal with Nike at the age of 13, joined the USWNT U-17 team a year later, and signed a professional contract with the Portland Thorns as a 15-year-old. She scored two goals in her first start for the USWNT  in February during a Gold Cup match against the Dominican Republican. Despite her world-class talent, Moultre may get squeezed off the Olympic squad given the glut of talent at midfield and her lack of experience.

Lily Yohannes

The youngest potential member of the squad won’t turn 17 until June, but is already a seasoned veteran on the field. This season Yohannes became the youngest player to start a Women’s Champions League group stage match, suiting up for Dutch powerhouse Ajax. Born in the U.S., but based in the Netherlands, where her father moved for work, she is still a rookie in international play with the recent SheBelieves Cup being her first stint with the senior team.

Sophia Smith

The top pick in the 2022 NWSL draft out of Stanford, Smith, 23, is already one of the most dangerous weapons on a talented U.S. team. In 2022, Smith was named U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year after leading the USWNT in scoring with 11 goals, and NWSL MVP in a season in which she won a championship with the Portland Thorns. Smith followed that up in 2023 by winning the NWSL Golden Boot for leading the league in goals.

Mallory Swanson

In December of 2015, at the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Qualifying Tournament, Mal Swanson scored seven goals in five games to help the USA win the tournament title. The feat helped earn the then-17-year-old a call-up to the full Women’s National Team, making her the youngest player to debut for the USA in the last 11 years. She’s been a fixture ever since. Her devastating knee injury in a World Cup tune-up game forced her out of that tournament.

Jaedyn Shaw

Jaedyn Shaw on the soccer field during the SheBelieves Cup Final

Just 19 years old, Shaw is primed to be the next big star of the U.S. Team. She’s already dominated the NWSL, becoming the youngest player to score on her league debut for the San Diego Wave two years ago. Equally dangerous as a striker or an attacking midfielder, Shaw scored four goals in six matches in the recent Gold Cup to lead the USWNT team in her first tournament for the squad. The sky’s the limit for Shaw.

Trinity Rodman

Already a dynamic offensive player at just 21 years of age, Rodman is considered one of the most important players on the American squad in a transition era. The daughter of Chicago Bulls icon Dennis Rodman won 2021 NWSL Rookie of the Year for the Washington Spirit and has only gotten better since. She was the youngest player in league history to record 10 goals and 10 assists in a season.

Alex Morgan

As potentially the last link to the 2012 Gold Medal-winning Olympic team, Morgan could bring veteran leadership to a team full of younger stars. That’s if the 35-year-old makes a squad that’s in transition. Morgan has all the credentials: She’s fifth all time in goals scored for the USWNT (123) and ninth all time in assists (53). Morgan still has some kick left, having won the NWSL Golden Boot award as the league’s top scorer in 2022, scoring 15 goals in just 17 games.

Catarina Macario

One of the most dangerous scorers on the squad, Macario is coming back from a two-year layoff after a devastating ACL tear two years ago. Despite the setback, the 23-year-old had already notched eight goals and two assists in her first 18 caps with the team. Currently at Chelsea playing for Hayes, the striker has previously terrorized opposing goalkeepers at Stanford and then French juggernaut Lyon before her injury. Born in Brazil, Macario is the first naturalized citizen to play for the top USWNT squad.

Alyssa Thompson

A year ago, the then 18-year-old soccer protégé was the youngest player on the World Cup squad and considered the future of the program. But a back injury has kept Thompson off the field for both the Gold Cup and the SheBelieves Cup, and there may not be enough recovery time for her to be in consideration for the Paris games.

Beginning July 26, you can  catch complete coverage of the Olympics  on Peacock and  NBC.

15 people injured in tram crash at Universal Studios Hollywood

Details on what led up to the crash were not immediately available., by karla rendon and city news service • published april 20, 2024 • updated on april 22, 2024 at 6:22 am.

Fifteen people were injured Saturday evening at Universal Studios Hollywood following a crash that involved a tram, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The crash was reported sometime before 9:30 p.m. According to LA County Fire Department, one person was critically injured in the incident. The severity of the injuries of other parties was not disclosed.

A spokesperson for the theme park released the following statement:

"There was a tram incident at the theme park tonight that resulted in multiple minor injuries, confirmed by the LA County Fire Dept. We are working to support our guests and understand the circumstances that led to the accident."

The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. According to the LA County Sheriff’s information bureau, initial reports indicated that there was an issue with the brakes, but they could not confirm that and said CHP would continue to investigate.

According to the California Highway Patrol, “the tram had just passed the ‘Jurassic Park Cars’ and was making a turn to head northbound on Avenue M. Due to unknown reasons, while negotiating the turn onto Avenue M, the last car of the tram collided with a metal guardrail on the right side of the roadway causing it to tilt and eject multiple passengers from the tram.”

Fifteen passengers were transported to hospitals for medical treatment and evaluations with minor to moderate injuries, CHP said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers were also at the scene on Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood.

“Deputies responded to the lower parking lot of Universal Studios Hollywood regarding a tour tram collision,'' the Sheriff's Information Bureau said. “The collision caused several passengers to fall out of the vehicle. LA County Fire treated people on-scene and several were transported via ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“California Highway Patrol [also] responded to the location to take a collision report. The cause of the accident is still under investigation and there is no further information at this time.”

CHP Officer Sergio Garcia said the initial report indicated that the tram overturned.

The last car struck a rail when it was traveling down a hill of a parking structure, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Maria Abal told the Los Angeles Times.

“There was some type of issue with the brakes,” Abal said. “We don't exactly know what yet.”

The tram tour of Universal Studios is one of the most popular attractions at the Universal City theme park, featuring a one-hour behind-the-scenes look at the backlot where some of Hollywood's most famous television shows, movies and other productions were filmed.

Starting Friday, and continuing through Aug. 11, the studio tour is set to add several temporary attractions including immersive photo ops, a first-ever original replica of the Hollywood sign and retro-themed food, drink and merchandise as part of its 60th anniversary celebration.

It was unclear whether Saturday's mishap would alter those plans.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, however, alcohol and drugs were not considered to be a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is advised to contact Investigating Officer L. Hawkins or Public Information Officer R. Gomez at 213-744-2331 at the Central Los Angeles CHP office during business hours. For after business hours, please contact the Los Angeles Communications Center at 323-259-3200.

  • The album features collaborations with Post Malone and Florence + the Machine. Swift described writing the album as deeply personal. "Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it," she said.
  • NBC News' resident Swifties stayed up to blog the biggest takeaways after the album's release.

Vinyl industry rep says pandemic-era manufacturing bottlenecks have eased

nbc studio tour cost

"The Tortured Poets Department" is set to be released in special-edition "ghost"-colored vinyl, available both directly through Swift's website and exclusively at Target.

During the pandemic, that might have alarmed vinyl record buyers. As vinyl plants shuttered and employees were sidelined, vinyl production ground to a halt, causing reports of weekslong backlogs and orders going unfulfilled outright.

But in an interview with NBC News on Friday, Dustin Blocker, president of the Vinyl Records Manufacturing Association, said those issues have been resolved and that suppliers now have more than enough capacity to handle any orders coming their way, including massive ones like Swift's.

"In Q3 2023, we saw the [production] timeline start to go back to normal," Blocker said. "And in Q4 it really got back to normal. Now, everyone, including the huge plants, takes only 8-12 weeks [to produce] ... so it's very good news for everyone."

Blocker said any price increases on the supply side sparked by the bottlenecks have essentially reversed.

So, the $40 price tag on the Target edition of "TTPD" is most likely the result of choices made by Swift, her label and the retailer, he said.

Taylor Swift reveals ‘Dateline’ as an inspiration for ‘Florida!!!’

Maddie Ellis, TODAY

Taylor Swift has taken over radio stations, from Channel 13 on SiriusXM to iHeartRadio briefly renaming itself to iHeartTaylor and sharing messages from the songwriter.

Swift revealed in a soundbite played on iHeartRadio that “Florida!!!” — the eighth track of the album and featuring Florence + the Machine — was inspired by “Dateline.”

“I’m always watching, like ‘Dateline,’” Swift said with a laugh. “People, you know, have these crimes that they commit where they immediately skip town and go to Florida. They try to reinvent themselves, have a new identity, blend in.”

It’s the same with heartbreak, she said.

“I think when you go through a heartbreak, there’s a part of you that thinks, ‘I want a new name. I want a new life,’” she said.

Or perhaps in Swift’s case — a new era?

The double album appeared to avoid leaks

Kaetlyn Liddy

The standard edition of "The Tortured Poets Department" is said to have been leaked ahead the album's release. The origin of the apparent leaks is unclear, but none of the songs on the extended "anthology" version of the album seem to have been compromised.

Leaks of major artists' work sometimes occur when physical copies of the album arrive prematurely at record stores or department stores, before the tracks are released on streaming platforms. Fans suspect the surprise drop of the double album was a factor in the 15 extra tracks avoiding leaks.

The extra content was so unexpected that the lyrics of the anthology version have yet to be uploaded to Spotify .

‘The Tortured Poets Department’ broke a Spotify record in 12 hours

"The Tortured Poets Department" is already Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day this year, edging out Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" in less than 12 hours, Spotify confirmed to NBC News.

Swift currently holds the all-time record for most streams in a day by album and by artist for 2022's "Midnights."

Who are The Blue Nile? About the Scottish band named by Swift

In the album's ninth track — "Guilty as Sin?" — Swift name-drops a beloved '80s Scottish band, The Blue Nile.

"Drowning in The Blue Nile. He sent me 'Downtown Lights.' I hadn’t heard it in a while," Swift says in the song.

"Downtown Lights," released in 1989, was the peak of The Blue Nile's commercial success in the U.S., with the song reaching No. 10 on the Billboard American Modern Rock Tracks chart. 1989 is also Swift's birth year and the title of her fifth studio album.

Known for their avoidance of publicity, The Blue Nile has released just four albums since forming in 1981.

Fans share their theories and joy on social media

It wouldn't be a new Taylor Swift album without fans wondering who it's about or decoding the names mentioned in each song. (Who is Cassandra , Taylor?)

That speculation will surely continue, but now that the album is out, fans can't believe their luck. Reactions on social media praised the sonic and lyrical range of the album, saying that "everybody gets everything," whether you listen to Swift for her synth-pop hits or her intimate folk songs.

Author and creator John Green couldn't wait to wake up his daughter to tell her she gets 31 new Taylor Swift songs today.

I believe these songs are some of the most lyrically acute, intricate, vulnerable and cathartic Taylor has ever written and I am continually astonished by her skills as a songwriter and performer," he wrote, adding in thanks to a long list of other artists and producers.

The release of "The Tortured Poets Department" will come just in time for a notable day in the music industry calendar: Record Store Day on April 20. The annual event has been observed since 2007 to celebrate independent record stores and is often accompanied by exclusive drops by major artists.

Swift has yet to announce a special event, but the date is marked in the TTPD Timetable on her Instagram, suggesting she might have something up her sleeve.

Swift describes new album: 'Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.'

Patrick Smith

Taylor Swift has offered fans a glimpse into the creative process behind "The Tortured Poets Society" and the emotions that inspired it.

In a press release Friday morning to accompany the new release, the artist said:

"The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.

"This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted.

"This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.

"And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry."

To sleep or stream? Swifties question staying up even later

Can you wait until the morning to listen to the 15 extra songs on Swift's anthology?

If you answered no, you're not alone. Online, fans joked that they didn't expect to get this little shut eye.

Surprise: a double album!

"The Tortured Poets Department" is a secret DOUBLE album.

In a 2 a.m. ET surprise, Swift announced an extra 15 songs.

"I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology," she wrote on X . "15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours."

ICYMI: Swift's powerhouse publicist Tree Paine gets profiled by WSJ

Swift's longtime publicist, Tree Paine, whom many fans know by name, was the subject of a lengthy Wall Street Journal article published Thursday ahead of the new album's release.

While she declined to be interviewed for the story, it delves into how she became one of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry since she joined Swift's camp in 2014.

“There isn’t a publicist in NY, LA or Nashville that wouldn’t jump at an opportunity to work with someone as talented as Taylor Swift and her management team,” Paine said at the time, according to the New York Post .

Couples are now wary of Swift's 'Lover' as a love song

Elena Nicolaou, TODAY

“Lover” — at least until recently — was widely received as one of Swift’s classic love songs. When the album of the same name came out in 2019, its title single was declared  first dance song material , or even a “ wedding waltz .”

In the song, Swift paints a portrait of quiet intimacy. Her wild “Red” days, of thrilling romances with highs and lows and uncertainties in between, had settled into something steadier with one person, captured by a simple chorus: “You’re my, my, my, my lover.”

But that interpretation is now in question, as Swift recasts some of her songs in a different light. Ahead of the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,”  she released five playlists on Apple Music , sorting old songs into groups inspired by the five stages of grief, or “heartbreak.”

Aaron Dessner is credited as a songwriter on five of 16 tracks

Dessner, who is a member of the bands The National and Big Red Machine, is one of two producers who worked on "The Tortured Poets Department."

He's credited as a songwriter on five of the 16 tracks on the standard album.

Dessner first collaborated with Swift on her eighth studio album, “Folklore,” for which he shared in the Grammy win for album of the year. He made several guest appearances with Swift on the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour, joining her onstage during the acoustic set for performances of songs they wrote together.

Here's what some critics are saying in their reviews

nbc studio tour cost

Angela Yang

The critics have spoken. Here's a roundup of some of their takeaways on "The Tortured Poets Department."

Billboard ’s Jason Lipshutz praised Swift’s boldness for releasing a “knowingly messy, wildly unguarded breakup album” at what’s arguably the peak of her career. It's more mature than her past heartbreak albums, he writes, and “not everyone will love it, but the ones who get it will adore it fiercely.”

Variety ’s Chris Willman wrote that the album can serve as an “unapologetically dramatic” soundtrack to listeners’ own heartbreaks.

Labeling it Swift’s most personal album yet, Rolling Stone ’s Rob Sheffield described it as “the cathartic confession of a woman who thought she had adulthood — and adult romance — all figured out, only to find herself realizing she knows nothing.”

And unlike on past albums, Swift doesn’t portray herself as a victim in this one, wrote the Los Angeles Times ’ Mikael Wood. Instead, the album emanates “a proudly villainous energy as Swift embraces her messiest and most chaotic tendencies.”

Jack Antonoff, Swift's longtime collaborator, posts love for album

Antonoff, Swift’s longtime collaborator and friend, shared his love for the new album on X .

"Love this album more than I can say," wrote Antonoff, who worked on “The Tortured Poets Department” as a producer.

Antonoff also co-wrote eight of the album's tracks.

Swifties are starting to post reax on X

In typical fashion after a Swift album drops, reactions from fans are pouring in online, and they TEND TO COME IN ALL CAPS.

As any Swiftie will tell you, listening to new music from the artist always proves to be a collective emotional experience.

Spotify appears to be holding it together (so far)

The last time Swift debuted a brand-new album, Spotify crashed. No major issues so far this time around.

Shoutout to the engineers and people behind the scenes who are probably working overtime to make sure Swifties don't panic.

We have a new countdown

Don’t go to bed yet! Taylor Swift’s Instagram page is displaying a new countdown to 2 a.m. ET. This wasn't on the timetable ...

Swift releases statement after album drop

In her first social media post after “The Tortured Poets Department” was released, Swift shared a statement about the album online.

These songs reflect her experiences from a moment in time that was equally “sensational and sorrowful,” she wrote, adding that it is a chapter now closed.

“Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it,” Swift wrote. “And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”

Who is Clara Bow?

nbc studio tour cost

Daniel Arkin

The 16th and final track on the album is named for Clara Bow, one of the leading lights of Hollywood’s silent era.

Bow, unlike a lot of stars from the 1920s, managed to successfully pivot to roles in talkies by the end of the decade. She co-starred in “Wings” (1927), which today is probably best known as the first movie to win the Oscar for best picture.

I’m not a Swiftie, so I don’t have much insight into how Taylor’s music connects to Bow’s acting career — but I’m curious how this track will be interpreted by the die-hards.

Bars, venues hold special Swift parties

On the eve of Swift’s album drop, event venues across the country (and around the world) hosted release parties so Swifties could get their first listen of the “The Tortured Poets Department” on the dance floor.

At Pianos in New York, music from across Swift’s discography will play until the new album drops at midnight. Attendees are encouraged to come in themed outfits and friendship bracelets, and the bar will be serving Swift-inspired cocktails.

In Los Angeles, El Cid is hosting a listening party complete with fan-made merch, giveaways and a themed wall for photos. Attendees can also expect performances from drag queen Jade Jolie, who appeared in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video.

Several Swiftie-themed events are also being held across the Washington, D.C., area, according to The Washington Post, which compiled a list .

A Swiftie mom and daughter are hosting their own album party

Kristie Gilmore, 36, is ready to celebrate with her daughter, who was born shortly after Swift's “1989” album and has been a Swiftie ever since.

Kristie Gilmore is hosting a TTPD party in the suburbs of Boston.

Gilmore decorated her Boston-area apartment with balloons, signs and stickers in the color palette of “The Tortured Poets Department.” She sprinkled the table with handmade confetti of the album’s logo and made TTPD-themed “membership cards” for themselves and each of her daughter’s friends.

“They’ve been counting down since Taylor announced this album,” Gilmore said, adding, “They’re just hanging out, having a dance party. They’re gonna try to stay up till midnight and listen to it.”

What are the track lengths?

The average track length on “The Tortured Poets Department” is 4 minutes and 4 seconds, making it the third longest album across Swift’s discography.

The longest song is “But Daddy I Love Him,” which clocks in at 5 minutes and 40 seconds.

“I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” is the shortest song, at 2 minutes and 36 seconds.

Travis Kelce shared his early thoughts about the album

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, the star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, weighed in on the new album.

“I have heard some of it, yes. It is unbelievable,”  Kelce said . “I can’t wait for her to shake up the world when it finally drops.”

The couple , who have become the internet's favorite love story , were most recently spotted at Coachella 's first weekend.

Swift's music is back on TikTok despite UMG dispute

Kalhan Rosenblatt

Some songs that Swift fans know “All Too Well” returned to TikTok this month, months after they were removed.

The songs were among the many tracks Universal Music Group pulled off TikTok after the label and the platform  failed to reach an agreement  this year. (UMG has no relationship to NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC News.)

UMG, known as one of the “Big Three” global music companies, cleared its music from TikTok in late January, saying it was doing so because of a lack of compensation for artists and songwriters. TikTok previously fired back at UMG, accusing the company of putting “their own greed above the interests of artists and songwriters.”

The economics of 'The Tortured Poets Department'

Doha Madani

Die-hard Taylor Swift fans will be spending a pretty penny on her latest album release as she releases four variants of the album with one exclusive track each.

Each variant of “The Tortured Poets Department” is named after the bonus song found at the end of the album: “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” “The Albatross” and “The Black Dog.” If a fan wanted to collect them all, the minimum for $13.99 CDs at a store would cost at least $55.96 before taxes.

Longtime Swifties are already familiar with her tendency to provide deluxe editions, as anyone who was around for her original “1989” release can recall the Target exclusive that included three bonus tracks and three voice memos recorded by Swift.

Her “Midnights” release included a Target exclusive track that was added to streaming only months later, and in May she released a new song on “Midnights (The Late Night Edition).” But this is the first time Swift has put an exclusive song on each individual variant, with no clear timeline for when they might be added to streaming.

2024: The year of Post Malone and the pop girlies

Rebecca Cohen

portrait face tattoos

Fresh off of a collab with Beyoncé on "LEVII'S JEANS" from her now-famed "Cowboy Carter," Post Malone finds himself on another major release of 2024: Swift's "The Tortured Poets Department."

He joins Swift on the album's first song, "Fortnight." Swift announced that "Fortnight" would be the album's lead single and the song for which she is releasing a music video 8 o'clock tomorrow night.

"I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever," Swift wrote on social media. "I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight."

While best known for more rap-focused songs, Post Malone is clearly making the rounds in the pop music scene, having also recently collaborated with Noah Kahan on "Dial Drunk." But his back-to-back appearances on arguably two of the biggest albums from pop artists this year raise the questions: Is Post Malone becoming a pop girlie? Is he just having a moment? Or is it all of the above?

There's a book about Swift's impact headed to bookshelves

Rolling Stone writer and music historian Rob Sheffield's book "Heartbreak Is the National Anthem: How Taylor Swift Reinvented Pop Music" will debut Nov. 12.

He's expected to dive further into Swift’s music and fan connection.

Swifties are celebrating with their own listening parties

Many Swifties are sharing their elaborate party setups online as they prepare to celebrate the album release at home.

Karen Rothdeutsch, 25, has decked out her bedroom in upstate New York with “The Tortured Poets Department”-themed decorations, complete with a platter of homemade cupcakes decorated to match Swift’s various vinyl variants.

swiftie party

“I just made my space a little more immersive for my first listen,” Rothdeutsch told NBC News. “I’ll be sitting in my bed with a box of tissues and a notebook, writing down my thoughts and probably checking into Twitter every so often to see what everybody’s thinking about it.”

She said she procured the decorations over the course of several weeks, but the whole setup cost her less than $100. While she decorates on a budget, she said she did splash out on the vinyl variants and collector’s edition CDs.

Swift's new album is already breaking a Spotify record

Spotify said on X that the “The Tortured Poets Department” became the most pre-saved album countdown page in the streaming service’s history.

Since its launch on March 28, TTPD's countdown page has ticked down to the album’s drop, now just hours away.

Was Swift's Grammys dress a 'Fortnight' Easter egg?

The white gown Swift wore to the 2024 Grammys, where she announced "The Tortured Poets Department," appears to have been an Easter egg.

taylor swift full length whote dress red carpet grammys

Swift appears to be wearing a very similar dress in the teaser for the "Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)" music video, which will debut 8 p.m. ET tomorrow.

Swift was also pictured hugging Post Malone at the ceremony. Some fans online pointed out a similar shot of the two singers that appears in the teaser for the music video.

Swift drops 'Fortnight' music video teaser

Swift blessed fans with a teaser for “Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)," the album's first single.

"At this hearing, I stand before my fellow members of The Tortured Poets Department with a summary of my findings. Album tonight. Fortnight music video tomorrow at 8pm et," Swift wrote in a post on X , which was accompanied by a short video clip.

The black-and-white teaser gave a sneak peak of the visuals for the music video. It's a combination of dramatic period gowns and a bleak medical setting in this supercut that is reminiscent of "Poor Things," which Swift's longtime friend Emma Stone recently won the best actress Oscar for.

Swift had announced she'd be dropping a music video at 8 p.m. ET tomorrow by sharing a “TTPD Timetable” on her Instagram page this week.

Merch is here — and already selling out

Hours before the album’s release, themed merchandise for “The Tortured Poets Department” is now available to order online.

The merch drop includes hoodies, crewnecks and gold jewelry branded with the album’s logo. A display case for the album vinyls seemingly sold out within minutes.

ICYMI: The Eras Tour concert film is on Disney+

In case you need something to do as you count down to the new album, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is on Disney+. Swift announced the film would be available for streaming in February.

The film features all songs from the three Los Angeles tour dates during which it was filmed at SoFi Stadium. They include “cardigan,” as well as four additional acoustic surprise songs from the tour: “I Can See You,” “Maroon,” “You Are in Love” and “Death by a Thousand Cuts.”

Swifties online are freaking out over purported ‘leaks’

The internet was at it again this week, with some online circulating what they said were leaks of Swift's new album. It is unclear from where and when the apparent leaks originated, but one Reddit thread is already filled with commentary.

As early as Tuesday, "taylor swift leak" appeared to be blocked from searches on X. Instead, when a user tried to search the phrase, a blank page popped up with the message, "Something went wrong. Try reloading."

The secret message has been decoded

The sixth and final word of the secret message, “mortem,” was revealed today, hidden in the lyrics of the song “Begin Again.”

The complete secret message is: “We hereby conduct this post mortem.”

In a collaboration with Apple Music, Swift sorted some of her existing songs into thematic playlists , along with audio messages from her.

The messages seemed to confirm some fans’ theories that the playlists mirrored the five stages of grief — denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance — indicating that the new album may grapple with grief or loss. Swift later used a song from each playlist to reveal a hidden word on Apple Music every day leading up to the release of “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Swift sets fans loose on an international puzzle

Swifties had a big day yesterday after murals with QR codes were unveiled in cities around the world, including Mexico City, Paris and Chicago.

Fans stumbled upon the murals, which Swift had not announced, and scanned them to find a link to a YouTube Shorts video. Every mural had a unique code that led to a different video, each revealing a new letter as part of a word puzzle.

Fans came together online to help decode the puzzle, which seemed to hint at the new album's first track, because it spelled out "for a fortnight."

Swifties in Los Angeles flock to Spotify pop-up library

Many Los Angeles Swifties celebrated the new album with a pop-up library installation in partnership with Spotify.

The three-day event, which runs through today at The Grove, featured a sneak peek at some of the album's lyrics.

Fans posted videos of themselves lined up for hours to get a glimpse at the installation.

A manuscript was front and center at the installation, revealing new lyrics periodically as the pages were turned over the course of three days.

Many fans online tried to identify other potential Easter eggs in the pop-up library, such as a bust of a peace sign, quill and fountain pens and a globe that appeared to be pointing to Florida, the name of a track on the album.

Why is the album called 'The Tortured Poets Department'?

Fans were quick to note that “The Tortured Poets Department” is the longest title for a Taylor Swift album by a large margin, a distinction previously held by her third album, "Speak Now." Before "TTPD," "Speak Now" was her only album title consisting of more than one word.

Speculation surrounding the new album and its uncharacteristic title has primarily revolved around Swift’s  2023 breakup  with British actor Joe Alwyn after their six-year relationship.

After the album announcement, a  2022 Variety interview  between Alwyn and Paul Mescal resurfaced on X. The pair revealed in the interview that they were both members of a WhatsApp group chat titled the Tortured Man Club, prompting some fans to  draw parallels  between Alwyn and Swift’s upcoming album.

The true meaning of “The Tortured Poets Department” remains to be seen, but the album's rollout has featured references to famous poems like Charles Baudelaire’s “The Albatross,” among other literary references.

Clues keep coming

Speculation continues to grow over clues for lyrics, song titles and the album’s first music video.

Not much from Miss Swift so far

It's been a notably quiet rollout for "The Tortured Poets Department."

No themed Instagram grid overhaul, no lead singles, not even a cryptic calendar leading Swifties on wild goose chases for potential Easter eggs.

A week before the release, Taylor Swift was rocking out at Coachella instead of feeding her fans who are desperate for a hint of what's to come.

Aside from a hand-painted QR code on the side of a building in Chicago, a planned exhibit at The Grove in Los Angeles in partnership with Spotify and a quick video released Tuesday that appears to leave the "Midnights" era in the dust as viewers tour The Tortured Poets Department, Swift has been silent on what we can expect.

In the video , posted to her Instagram account, we did get a glimpse of a schedule that only showed release day, and on it, the promise of a music video on Friday at 8 p.m. ET. Fourteen tick marks beneath led some to think the music video could be for the 14th track on the album, or for the leading song, "Fortnight," since a fortnight is 14 days.

Swifties believing in the latter theory proved to be correct. Swift announced that the music video would be for "Fortnight" in a Thursday afternoon social media post.

Swifties online continue to grasp for any details to try to figure out what this mastermind might have in store for her beloved fan base.

What songs are on the new album?

Here's what songs are on the track list.

  • "Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department"
  • "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys"
  • "So Long, London"
  • "But Daddy I Love Him"
  • "Fresh Out the Slammer"
  • "Florida!!! (Florence + the Machine)"
  • "Guilty as Sin?"
  • "Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?"
  • "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)"
  • "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart"
  • "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
  • "The Alchemy"
  • "Clara Bow"

Swift has also announced four bonus tracks: "The Manuscript," “The Bolter,” “The Albatross” and “The Black Dog.” Each bonus track will be available on a separate vinyl variant and won't be on the streaming version of the album.

When does 'The Tortured Poets Department' drop?

Swift's 11th studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," will be released Friday at 12 a.m. ET, or 9 p.m. PT.

It will be available for purchase on vinyl, on cassette, as a digital album and in CD form. It will also be on several streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music.

But if you plan to stream “The Tortured Poets Department” right after its release, be prepared for potential delays. When Swift’s most recent brand-new album, “Midnights,” was released, Spotify  briefly crashed  because of intense demand.

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.
