Everything You Need To Know About The Eight PGA Tour Signature Events In 2024

The group of elevated tournaments on the PGA Tour features an increase in prize money and FedEx Cup points - but what are they and when are they in 2024?

PGA Tour 'Signature Events' are now a key feature on the circuit's calendar in 2024 after a year of ' Designated Events ' in 2022-23.

The eight tournaments - which don't include the Majors , playoff events and Players Championship - feature smaller fields but increased prize purses and more FedEx Cup points (700 to the winner of each).

Three of the events - hosted by legends of the game - will feature a 36-hole cut and 20% of the total prize purse awarded to the winner while the remaining tournaments are no-cut competitions with the usual 18% prize handed to the champion.

The top-50 members of the reshuffled FedEx Cup standings from the 2022-23 season automatically qualified for all Signature Events this year, while 'The Next 10' - which includes the top-10 players on the 2024 FedExCup point list, not otherwise exempt via a higher priority category - will also receive a start.

For the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational, the Next 10 referred to those players who finished between 51-60 on the final 2022-23 FedExCup Fall points list.

To ensure every PGA Tour member has a chance of making it, there is another exemption category called the 'Swing 5.' Those who secure the highest number of FedEx Cup points in between Signature Events will book a tee time at the upcoming tournament. The winner of any PGA Tour event is also eligible for the remaining 'Signature' tournaments in 2024.

Without further ado, let's take a look at the eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour calendar in 2024.

What Are The Eight Signature Events On The PGA Tour In 2024?

The sentry (january 4-7).

Chris Kirk

Chris Kirk is the 2024 Sentry champion

Formerly known as The Sentry Tournament of Champions, the more concisely-named event kicked off the 2024 PGA Tour season at the monster-drive-enabling Kapalua Plantation Course in Hawaii.

As the first PGA Tour competition of 2024, The Sentry is the only Signature Event which did not include either qualifiers from The Next 10 or The Swing 5. Only PGA Tour winners from 2023 and the top-50 members from the 2022-23 FedExCup standings teed it up.

Chris Kirk won the 2024 running after an incredible overall score of 29-under par - one shot in front of Sahith Theegala and two ahead of Jordan Spieth .

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (February 1-4)

Wyndham Clark holds up the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am trophy in 2024

Wyndham Clark holds up the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am trophy in 2024

The biggest Pro-Am golf tournament in the world took place at two iconic courses in early February - Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course .

Despite being eagerly anticipated as arguably the first showpiece event of the season, several days of stormy weather majorly disrupted the tournament and caused it to be shortened to 54 holes.

Wyndham Clark was crowned the 2024 champion, though, thanks to a simply stunning 12-under-par effort on Saturday - the final day of competition.

The Genesis Invitational (February 15-18)

Hideki Matsuyama of Japan poses for a photo with the trophy after putting in to win on the 18th green during the final round of The Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club

Only the WM Phoenix Open separated the second and third Signature Events on the PGA Tour in 2024 during an undoubtedly exciting stretch of golf.

Tiger Woods hosted the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club shortly after Valentine's Day, with the 15-time Major champion briefly making hearts flutter in what was his first PGA Tour start of the year.

However, he was forced to withdraw due to illness during round two and was not able to be in attendance as former Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama produced a masterful Sunday performance to take home the title.

Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (March 7-10)

Scottie Scheffler wears a red cardigan and holds the Arnold Palmer Invitational trophy

The Arnold Palmer Invitational precedes The Players Championship and often features a Major-like field in terms of its strength. Being that it is also now a Signature Event, too, many of the world's top-70 are involved on a Bay Hill course that can cause even the strongest player to crumble somewhat.

The event in Florida sees the winner receive a red cardigan sweater, in memory of Arnold Palmer - a tradition that began with the 2017 tournament after Palmer's death in 2016.

It's 2024 edition was won by Scottie Scheffler after the American romped to the title on 15-under, five shots clear of runner up, Wyndham Clark.

RBC Heritage (April 18-21)

Scottie Scheffler speaks to the media with his winner's jacket and trophy after winning the RBC Heritage

The RBC Heritage took place days after The Masters finished in mid-April at the wonderfully-picturesque Harbour Town Golf Links on the eastern coast of the United States. Both events were both won at a canter by Scheffler.

The 27-year-old's fourth win in five starts arrived a little later than planned, however, after storms caused a delay to the final round that meant Scheffler needed to come back on Monday and complete his final few holes.

Although he made a rare bogey, Scheffler still won by three and the handful of boats in the harbour produced the traditional celebratory horn blast once the final putt dropped.

Wells Fargo Championship (May 9-12)

Quail Hollow Hole 18

2024 will mark the final Wells Fargo Championship, possibly ever, after the financial-services company announced it would not be renewing its sponsorship of the tournament.

Wyndham Clark won at Quail Hollow in 2023, and he will surely be back to see if he can defend his crown at the world-famous course.

The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (June 6-9)

The 18th hole at Muirfield Village

The ideal warm-up to the U.S Open at Pinehurst No.2 in 2024, the Memorial Tournament is a brutal test for players - indicated by Viktor Hovland 's winning score of seven-under last year. He out-lasted Denny McCarthy in a playoff at Muirfield Village Golf Club in 2023 before ultimately claiming the FedEx Cup in August.

This year's Memorial Tournament takes place smack bang in the middle of a thrilling stretch of golf and is the penultimate Signature Event of the year.

Travelers Championship (July 20-23)

The 18th green during the final round of the 2021 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands

The final Signature Event of the season is due to take place one week after the U.S Open at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. Keegan Bradley took home the title and a check for $4 million after winning by three shots at the same tournament in 2023.

As the FedEx Cup playoffs come into view, this will be the players' last chance to make serious moves towards the top-10 and give themselves a better chance of making some serious money.

PGA TOUR unveils 2024 FedExCup Season, including eight Signature Events

10 Min Read

Calendar-year schedule, interconnected events heighten drama and consequence for players and fans

Change Text Size

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – The PGA TOUR today released its 2024 FedExCup Regular Season and FedExCup Playoffs schedule, with events interconnected like never before to deliver maximum drama and consequence, as the TOUR returns to a calendar-year schedule for the first time since 2012. The FedExCup Fall portion of the 2024 FedExCup Season, which will finalize the top 125 for the 2025 season, will be announced at a later date.

The 2024 FedExCup Regular Season, consisting of 36 events, begins in January with the “Opening Drive” at The Sentry and Sony Open in Hawaii – where all players start with zero FedExCup points and look to get off to a strong start in the race for the FedExCup. The Wyndham Championship once again serves as the culmination of the Regular Season, with only 70 players advancing to the FedExCup Playoffs. The Regular Season schedule includes the 50th playing of THE PLAYERS Championship and the four Major Championships, eight Signature Events (referred to as “Designated events” in 2023), 18 Full-Field Events and five Additional Events.

“We are excited about the roll-out of the PGA TOUR’s reimagined schedule and what the season will offer to our fans: a January start with stars competing head-to-head more often, alongside the weekly drama of life-altering moments and the emergence of new stars,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan. “While winning on the PGA TOUR continues to be the ultimate – and most difficult – challenge, we have further connected every tournament, with more at stake each week. From The Sentry through the FedExCup Playoffs and into the soon-to-be-announced FedExCup Fall, this new, cadence will create consistent excitement for our fans and reward players like never before. We are grateful to the membership – especially the Player Directors and Player Advisory Council – as well as our tournaments and partners for the collaboration that has set us up for an exciting 2024.”

New to the list of Signature Events in 2024 is the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, to be played at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. The reimagined event will see a significant adjustment to its traditional Pro-Am format. Amateurs will now compete alongside professionals (80 players) over the first two rounds, with the competition limited to professionals only for the final two rounds at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

The eight Signature Events, which are limited-field tournaments with increased prize money and FedExCup points (700 points to the winner), are as follows:

• The Sentry (January 1-7) • AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (January 29-February 4) • The Genesis Invitational (February 12-18) • Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (March 4-10) • RBC Heritage (April 15-21) • Wells Fargo Championship (May 6-12) • the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (June 3-9) • Travelers Championship (June 17-23)

The three player-hosted invitationals (The Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday) will feature a 36-hole cut to the top 50 and ties and any player within 10 shots of the lead, and a redistribution of prize money that allocates 20 percent to the winner ($4 million), up from 18 percent. The remaining five Signature Events will not have a cut and will continue to allocate 18 percent to the winner.

The 2024 schedule cadence connects events through several new eligibility paths, allowing trending players to earn Signature Event starts and ensuring every member the opportunity to compete alongside the game’s best.

The Sentry is the season’s first Signature Event and includes PGA TOUR winners from the previous calendar year as well as the top 50 members from the 2022-23 FedExCup standings (i.e., those who qualify for the BMW Championship, the second FedExCup Playoffs event).

Eligibility for the remaining seven Signature Events (field sizes anticipated to be between 70-80 players) includes the top 50 members from the 2022-23 FedExCup standings and 15 members who can play their way in through The Next 10 and The Swing 5.

The Next 10 represents the top 10 members, not otherwise exempt, from the FedExCup standings. The Swing 5 includes the top five FedExCup points earners, not otherwise exempt, from the swing of Full-Field and Additional events preceding each Signature Event.

Below is an overview of timing for The Next 10 and The Swing 5 for the seven Signature Events, outside The Sentry.

• AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (January 29-February 4) - The Next 10 – from the final FedExCup Fall standings - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Sony Open in Hawaii, The American Express and Farmers Insurance Open

• The Genesis Invitational (February 12-18) - The Next 10 – from the final FedExCup Fall standings - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Sony Open in Hawaii, The American Express, Farmers Insurance Open and WM Phoenix Open

• Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (March 4-10) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through The Classic in The Palm Beaches - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Mexico Open at Vidanta and The Classic in The Palm Beaches

• RBC Heritage (April 15-21) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through the Masters Tournament - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Puerto Rico Open, Valspar Championship, Texas Children’s Houston Open and Valero Texas Open

• Wells Fargo Championship (May 6-12) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through AT&T Byron Nelson - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Corales Puntacana Championship, Zurich Classic of New Orleans and AT&T Byron Nelson

• the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (June 3-9) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through RBC Canadian Open - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Myrtle Beach Classic, Charles Schwab Challenge and RBC Canadian Open

• Travelers Championship (June 17-23) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through U.S. Open - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Myrtle Beach Classic, Charles Schwab Challenge and RBC Canadian Open

Signature Event eligibility will also include current season tournament winners (excluding Additional Events), PGA TOUR members inside the top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking (through the preceding week) and four sponsor exemptions earmarked for PGA TOUR members. The three player-hosted invitationals will also have one tournament host exemption, which is not restricted to PGA TOUR members: the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption (The Genesis Invitational), the Arnold Palmer Cup Exemption (Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard) and the Jack Nicklaus Award for NCAA Division I National Player of the Year (the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday).

The Wyndham Championship (August 5-11) concludes the FedExCup Regular Season and finalizes the Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10, which will award a doubled prize pool of $40 million, with $8 million going to the winner. Following the conclusion of the Wyndham Championship is the 18th edition of the FedExCup Playoffs.

• The top 70 players in the FedExCup standings qualify for the first FedExCup Playoffs event, the FedEx St. Jude Championship (August 12-18) at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, and are exempt for Full-Field Events and THE PLAYERS in 2025.

• From there, the top 50 players in the FedExCup standings advance to the BMW Championship (August 19-25), contested for the first time at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado. Castle Pines Golf Club hosted a TOUR event, The International, from 1986-2006. Those 50 players are fully exempt for the following season and earn the additional distinction of qualifying for Signature Events in 2025, as well as THE PLAYERS.

• After the BMW Championship, the top 30 will move on to the season-ending TOUR Championship (August 26-September 1) at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta where the FedExCup champion will be crowned and awarded a record $25 million bonus.

As with the upcoming 2023 FedExCup Fall, the 2024 FedExCup Fall will finalize top 125 eligibility for the next season, providing exempt status for Full-Field Events, as well as a spot in THE PLAYERS. While players in the top 50 will continue to be eligible for FedExCup Fall events, players ranked No. 51 and beyond carry over their FedExCup Points from the Regular Season and FedEx St. Jude Championship and will continue to accumulate points through the FedExCup Fall toward their eligibility status for 2025. Additionally, the top 10 players in the FedExCup standings, not otherwise exempt, from the FedExCup Fall are eligible for two Signature Events in 2025 as outlined above – the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational. This allows for trending players to emerge from the FedExCup Fall.

In addition to 500 FedExCup points, benefits of winning during the FedExCup Fall include a two-year PGA TOUR exemption, entry to the season-opening The Sentry and THE PLAYERS, as well as eligibility into those Major Championships that invite PGA TOUR winners.

Some additional items to note for 2024:

• The 2024 FedExCup Regular Season and Playoffs include events contested in the United States (33), Mexico, Scotland (2), Canada, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

• The Sony Open in Hawaii (January 8-14), a Full-Field event, will mark the debut of the PGA TOUR’s new members from the DP World Tour, Korn Ferry Tour and PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.

• Due to a crowded sports calendar, the Farmers Insurance Open (January 22-27) played in San Diego will feature a Saturday primetime finish on CBS/Paramount+ for the third consecutive season. The fifth annual APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Invitational will be played January 27-28.

• Mexico’s national open, the Mexico Open at Vidanta (February 19-25), moves to February after being contested in April 2023.

• The TOUR will return to South Florida for the 52nd playing of The Classic in The Palm Beaches (February 26-March 3) at PGA National Resort. The TOUR expects to announce a new title sponsor in the near future.

• With support from Proud Partners Comcast Business, Optum and Morgan Stanley, THE PLAYERS Championship (March 11-17), the TOUR’s flagship event at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, will be contested for the 50th time in 2024.

• With a new five-year title sponsor, the Texas Children’s Houston Open (March 25-31) moves from the fall portion of the schedule to March.

• The Myrtle Beach Classic (May 6-12), a 300-FedExCup point event played additionally the week of the Wells Fargo Championship, debuts at Dunes Golf & Beach Club. Other Additional Events in 2024 include the Puerto Rico Open (March 4-10), Corales Puntacana Championship (April 15-21), TBA event (July 8-14) and Barracuda Championship (July 15-21). The TOUR expects to make an announcement soon on the July 8-14 TBA event.

• For the third consecutive season, three tournaments will be part of both the FedExCup and the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai: Genesis Scottish Open (July 8-14), which is co-sanctioned by both Tours; the TBA event scheduled for July 8-14; and the Barracuda Championship (July 15-21), which allow access to DP World Tour members.

• The RBC Canadian Open (May 27-June 2) returns to Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for the first time since 2019.

• The PGA TOUR will not hold an event the week of July 29-August 4, when the Olympic Men's Golf Competition will be contested at Le Golf National in Paris. The 2024 FedExCup Regular Season concludes the following week at the Wyndham Championship (August 5-11).

• The 15th Presidents Cup (September 24-29) heads to The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where the International Team, captained by Mike Weir, will face off against the U.S. Team, captained by Jim Furyk. The three Global Partners of the Presidents Cup are Citi, Cognizant and Rolex.

Domestically, the PGA TOUR season will be televised on CBS/Paramount+, NBC/Golf Channel/Peacock and PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+.

2024 PGA Tour schedule: Tournaments, dates, purses and venues

pga tour events 2024

The 2024 PGA Tour schedule has been announced, with a significant overhaul to the 48-event docket that golf fans have been accustomed to seeing in recent years.

The most significant changes to the schedule are going back to a calendar-year schedule, with the FedEx Cup season running from the start in January through the end of the Tour Championship in August. The FedEx Cup Fall will still unfold from September through November, but these tournaments will not count toward the full-season FedEx Cup standings -- rather, they will be added on to the FedEx Cup points earned through the FedEx St. Jude Championship to determine the top 125 in PGA Tour cards.

Signature events

The PGA Tour has created a series of signature events, all of which will have purses of at least $20 million: the Sentry Tournament of Champions, The Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Memorial Tournament, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the RBC Heritage, the Wells Fargo Championship and the Travelers Championship. These events will offer 700 FedEx Cup points to the winners and will have limited fields based on the top 50 in the prior year's FedEx Cup standings and other criteria.

FedEx Cup playoff changes

The FedEx Cup playoffs are changing for 2024 as well. The series will remain at three events, but only the top 70 players in the standings at the end of the regular season will qualify, with cuts to 50, then to 30 players after each of the FedEx Cup events. The FedEx Cup bonus pool increases this year to $100 million.

DUBLIN, Ohio — The PGA Tour is perhaps only a month away from announcing its revamped and reimagined 2024 schedule of tournaments, according to PGA Tour officials who met with the media Wednesday at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

PGA Tour executives Andy Pazder and Tyler Dennis provided an update on the ongoing task of putting together the 2024 tour schedule that has been touted to feature a new flow of designated events and groupings of “swing events” between them.

The tour officials said that the schedule is about “90-plus percent complete,” and that they expect to make an announcement on the full slate by the end of June either before or in conjunction with a scheduled PGA Tour Policy Board meeting.

“We've been in a process for a couple of months now of talking to every single title sponsor, every host organization, and things are going really well,” said Dennis, the tour’s executive vice president.

While Dennis and Pazder, chief tournaments and competitions officer, were still not at liberty to discuss many specifics of the plan due to ongoing discussions, they did shed light on several issues, including the reduction of designated events from nine to eight prior to the FedEx Cup Playoffs and its intention to go forward with limited fields of 70 to 80 players in most of those tournaments.

Here are the key takeaways from the meeting:

What are the designated events for next year?

In addition to the Sentry Tournament of Champions, there are the three invitationals—the Memorial, Arnold Palmer Invitational and Genesis Invitational—and four others yet to be confirmed. Sources have identified the Travelers Championship, RBC Heritage and Wells Fargo Championship, which also are/were designated events this season, as well as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. The WM Phoenix Open reverts to a "swing" tournament in 2024, while WGC-Dell Match Play is not returning to the schedule.

How did the tour decide to settle on fields of 70-80 players in regular season designated events?

First of all, we're not talking about all designated regular-season events. The Players, the tour's flagship event, will remain at 144 players. Meanwhile, the Sentry Tournament of Champions has a fluctuating field depending on the number of different winners and the number of Tour Championship participants who didn't win in the previous season.

Said Dennis: “When you studied the overall strength of each and every event, so all those 31 weeks going into the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the smaller field size emerged as something that really lifted every tournament. And it has to do with how the eligibility system works and sort of the meritocratic way of guys who are playing the best either through a swing of full field events, or you know, at that point in the season, they can promote themselves into the designated events, and having that be something you're trying to strive to achieve. It really strengthened significantly all of the other full-field events, which as we said, top guys are also going to be playing in those depending on their own kind of personal choices.”

Will all the designated events be no-cut tournaments?

There was a bit of a mixed message provided on that question. Pazder said that is still to be determined, particularly as it relates to the invitationals.

“We are having a further conversation about that,” he said. “I'm aware that certain hosts of designated events have voiced viewpoints that they'd like to see a cut at their event. Some of the designated events we've announced, everybody knows, that they would be no-cut events. But that's something if there's support for a change, there could be [a cut] at some of the designated events, or all the designated, or none of the events. There’s a wide, wide array of viewpoints that you have to take into consideration.”

Dennis, however, said that fields of 70-80 players “is a field size that doesn’t need a cut. We have a long history of a number of no-cut events out here, smaller field sizes. So that was sort of the logic that led us to the announcement [of having no-cut events].”

The Players, of course, will still have a cut of low 65 players and ties.

Will purses in designated events remain at their current levels?

The Players was $25 million this year while the Sentry Tournament of Champions was $15 million. The other regular-season designated events, including this week’s Memorial, offer $20 million.

Pazder anticipates that the $20 million events will remain the same next year. They will not recede. “Our plan is keeping them at $20 million and growing,” he said.

What is the tour’s response to the notion it is creating a two-tier system or two separate tours?

“I don't think that's a fair comment,” Pazder said. “To me, the beauty of the schedule that you'll see next year is that it is one FedEx Cup competition. And the designated events are designed to be aspirational in nature. You always want to play against the best, right? You've heard us this year and years past—to be the best you gotta beat the best and all that. We know our top players want to play against each other more often. And these designated events, as I said, are aspirational. So if you're not in the top 50, on the prior your FedEx Cup lists, well, one of your goals, top of the list, you always want to win. But short of that you want to play your way into those designated events … to measure yourself against the best, the financial rewards of being in those, and so forth. And, again, the way we've stitched together this schedule, it allows every single week on the PGA Tour to have a massive chance of being very successful. I don't buy into this notion that somehow there's two different tours, not at all, not whatsoever.”

What are the chances that future tour schedules will look roughly similar to the 2024 slate? Initially, there was a plan to rotate designated events.

Said Pazder: “Our intention is to have consistency from year to year in the schedule, which means designated events specifically having blocks. That's important from a membership standpoint. From a fan standpoint, though, we'd like for our fans to begin to understand and follow the flow of our schedule to know roughly the timing of when the designated events will happen, and we think that, generally, will elevate the entire schedule. And that is our objective.

“We looked at all sorts of different models over the last couple of years: Do you rotate? Which events in which sponsors are designated events? There's some plusses to that. But I think there's more negatives. It would create isolated weeks. Putting the schedule together, as you all know, it's very complicated for weather and agronomics, and a million other factors. So having designated events rotate from year to year, on paper, it sounded good initially, because we kind of dove into it. And it quickly became apparent that the best path for me to identify strong events on good golf courses. That would be our plan.”
