Take a Bite of These Awesome Reviews!

My family and I absolutely LOVED the pizza tour! Martin was extremely charismatic and an absolute delight to be around. His historical knowledge was enlightening and the pizza shops we stopped to were fantastic! My family and I will definitely book this tour (Or his new seafood tour!) in June 2021!

Martin just knocked it out of the park! He was awesome at communicating with me (I was a little late) and responded to me right away. We visited three pizzerias and walked around Boston’s north end. The only downside to our tour was the rain, it poured the entire time but we made the best of it! Martin was able to secure our seating inside and brought the pizza right out. The amount of food was definitely worth the cost of the ticket, you will get several full slices of pizza and a giant cannoli.

We booked a private tour with Martin on a Sunday afternoon in early October and it was AMAZING! Despite living in the Boston area for our whole lives, we were surprised with how much we learned about the history of the North End and Charlestown area. The pizza and cannoli were to die for. Martin was extremely accommodating and made us all feel very comfortable throughout our tour. We had so much fun! Would highly recommend!

We were looking for a tour of the amazing northend that would convince our 9 year old the walking was worth it and pizza did it! It's a beautiful walk around the historic northend. The pride in the neighborhood from our tour guide was fantastic. It hit some of the freedom trail spots but not so much "history" that kids get bored- just enough to learn something! And the pizza is amazing! And the owners interact with you as well- very friendly! These slices are not sample size either- you will be full when it is finished.

The tour was great! Best clam chowder I've ever tasted, and some good info sprinkled in along the way!! Very good experience.

This is such a great tour. An awesome way to learn about Boston and see some great and historical sites while also enjoying some amazing food. I will definitely tour with this company again!

A beautiful day with so much great history and new-found friends. Martin is absolutely fabulous and kind and easygoing, full of stories and so much knowledge. A must do Tour!

Fantastic Tour with wonderful history, enjoyable ferry ride and FANTASTIC tavern visits with local beers and cider with delicious appetizers. Cannoli was the cherry on top!

What a wonderful experience!! Scotty, our guide, was so friendly and informative. We just had the best time!! We went on several guided tours and out of all of them this was our favorite!! We would recommend it to everyone!!

Awesome tour! Very informative and amazing food. Highly recommend

pizza food tour boston

Boston’s Little Italy Food Tour

Experience the vibrant and flavorful North End neighborhood on our guided food tour. As you join us, we’ll welcome you with a warm “Buongiorno”, or “Ciao” and, perhaps, an authentic Italian gesture to start the day.

Our first stop will be to one of three award-winning pizzerias, either a James Beard Award winner, or one of two Best of Boston winners, one of which has been recognized by TripAdvisor as the best pizza-maker in the country! You’ll get to indulge in the delicious flavors of these acclaimed eateries, setting the tone for the rest of the tour.

Next, we’ll take you to a hidden gem, a three-time Best of Boston Bread Bakery, and a salumeria and pasta shop featured on the Food Network’s “Best Thing That I Ever Ate”. You’ll sample the best-selling Italian bread, balsamic vinegars, and house-made mozzarella, and you’ll learn about the history behind these local establishments.

As we continue to explore the neighborhood, we’ll introduce you to three popular eateries that you might want to come back to later. One has been featured on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives”, and another has been ranked as one of the top restaurants in the country by the New York Times.

The best coffee in the North End

While it’s closed on Sundays, the remainder of the week, we’ll also stop at our favorite old-school coffee shop, where you can enjoy their famous house-made lemon slush during summer months, or a cup of the best espresso our guests say they’ve ever tasted. Before heading to our next destination, we’ll stop at a long line for the Best of Boston Sandwich, a mouth-watering Italian sub that will leave a lasting impression.

After a bit more sightseeing, including a quick stop at Paul Revere’s House, we’ll finish our tour at a small, family-owned restaurant that’s a favorite of locals and Hollywood alike. You’ll savor a delicious pasta course with one of Mama Connie’s famous meatballs, followed by a classic cannoli to round off the perfect North End experience.

Join us for an unforgettable culinary adventure in the heart of Boston’s historic North End!

Touring Boston's North End while sampling some of its best pizza is the way to go! Our awesome tour guide, Margot, showed us many historical sites and was a wealth of knowledge. She was also awesome for finding us even though we were running a little late and the tour had to start without us. We would definitely recommend this tour and we absolutely recommend going with Margot. She's the best. PS Wear comfortable shoes for all the walking!!

Photo of Jacob A.

Martin was fantastic and just a delight! Some amazing pizza served and topped the tour off with some amazing cannolis! Very informative as well about the neighboring sites. So much fun

Photo of Patty G.

We were in Boston for a long weekend and found Boston Pizza Tours on TripAdvisor. Our tour guide was Martin and he provided a fun historically infused tour of the North Side. We made 3 pizza stops that were great but also walked in between slices. It was a lot of fun and definitely a family friendly tour. Much recommended to families with young kids. Please note: you will be very full by the end of this tour! And as the Cuban's say... "barriga llena, corazon contento" or, a full belly equals a happy heart!

pizza food tour boston

I had been recommended to do this by several friends, so was really excited when Gster gave this to me as a birthday gift. Classically, we didn't use the birthday gift until about nine months later. However it was still much appreciated, thanks Gster. We invited some friends to come with us for a day full of pizza and history. Or what we had hoped. Sounds like a blast! We arrived a bit late which didn't seem to be a problem. Our guide was a short blonde women, who says she's lived in every area of Boston except the North End. We should have known this was a sign that the tour would not be what we expected. Overall I was quite disappointed with the tour. Firstly, all of the pizza places they took us to, Gster and I had already been to. Well 2 1/2 of them. However they did choose the best pizza places ... Gster and I had just already sought them out before. The information on the tour itself was minimal at best. I was hoping to learn new things about the different types of the pizzas, or the histories of the pizza places. But the information was mostly general information about the buildings in the North End. But even that was very scarce. She also took us to a chocolate shop, which would have been great if we were on a chocolate tour, however, we were on a pizza tour... and all I wanted was pizza! Given these problems, I would have been mad if I spent the full price, however, we did use the Groupon. Overall, I think it's a good idea and a great concept and maybe we just got stuck with the bad tour guide. Regardless of the tour, our group had a great day, we got our 10,000 steps in, and were too full to eat for the rest of the night.

My husband and I took the tour last Saturday while visiting Boston. It was fantastic. We had great pizza, met some very nice people on the tour and had s great tour guide, Dave. The tour is s must do while visiting Boston! We now want to go on other pizza tours in major cities!!!

Photo of Larry O.

Went with my family and had a blast! Pizza was great, tour was great, tour guide was great. Kids want to do it again next week.

Photo of John A.

This tour was fun, informational and tasty. A perfect way to get to see and sample the North End. Jimbo, our tour guide who was great, the little secrets and stories that went along with the tour made it very personal. I will definitely be doing this tour with my brother and his girls this spring. We had pizza from a variety of restaurants, each one slightly different and with a history of its own. If you like pizza; and you're in Boston this is. T far the best way to sample The Best pizza places!

Photo of Christopher G.

Great tour with an even greater tour guide (Jimbo). We spent the tour walking along the streets of downtown Boston and Charlestown, stopping along the way at three different pizza/bar joints, all of which were great. Oh, and a fairy ride! Also had some history lessons and cool stories about the city. Overall, awesome time!

Came from Indianapolis for the weekend and so glad we did this tour. Our tour guide Dave was super friendly and knowledgeable. We started off at Galleria Umberto for a great Sicilian slice. Then hit Rina's for a delicious Mahgerita pizza slice. Finished up at Modern Underground. Good solid pizza there but an even better vibe and place to hang out for a post tour beer. The tour not only had great variety of pizza slices but was great history too. Not my first walking tour of Boston but one of the most fun. Highly recommended.

Photo of Chris S.

Even on a cold Boston day, this tour was great. We have two teenage boys and there's nothing better than walking around town eating good pizza. Our guide, Shawn, was very upbeat and engaged the entire time. He was also very aware of the history that surrounded us, taking us into the Old North Church and giving us other historical tidbits. I would definitely recommend this trip if you are looking for a fun and delicious time (P.S... Bring an empty stomach)

Best Pizza in Boston (and Massachusetts)

close up pizza

If there’s one food that we can’t get enough of, it’s pizza! Maybe it’s Sam’s New York roots, but we are pizza fiends. Have you looked for the best pizza in Boston or best pizza in Massachusetts? Well, look no further! We have put together our list of our favorite pizza spots in Boston and beyond, the places that we tour. Did we miss any? Send us your favorite pizza in Boston!

Best Pizza in Massachusetts

Picco (south end, boston).

Mmm, Picco actually means “pizza and ice cream company”, and that’s basically what our standard order is when we are there. Have you ever had a really delicious dinner roll? Well, to us the Picco pizza is like eating a delicious pillowy dinner roll with tangy tomato sauce – and it’s crispy and wood-grilled on the outside — the char lends a ton of flavor! We typically start with their arugula salad which they kindly split in half for two, followed by a large pizza with garlic and ricotta additions, and a small sundae each for dessert – to die for! Now if only they delivered to our area, that would be dangerous….!

Website Address: 513 Tremont Street, Boston South End

close up pizza

Flatbread Pizza in Somerville (Davis Square, Somerville)

On Wednesdays for much of the year, the Davis Square Farmers Market is in the lot outside of Flatbread, and their chefs have been known to pick up some local produce for their pizza. Their weekly specials are listed on a chalkboard and include all sourcing information for everything from their cheese to vegetables, and best of all their wood-fired grill sparkles (it was hand-made by community members!) Our favorite pizza is the Somerville Community Flatbread which has delicious and sweet caramelized onions and is sliced in thin pieces to maximize your eating pleasure. Best of all, you can go bowling too! Try it on our Davis Square Somerville Food Tour.

Website Address: 45 Day Street, Somerville, Davis Square

half and half pizza

Za (Kendall Square, Cambridge)

On our Kendall Square, Cambridge Food Tour we stop at Za and Evoo, sister restaurants which really are the heart of Kendall Square. We are lucky to meet with their chefs and learn first-hand how dedicated they really are to excellence and customer service. Their pizza flavors are fresh and delicious, from corn pizza to mac and cheese pizza – you won’t find anything else this fresh and inventive!

Website Address: 350 Third Street, Cambridge, Kendall Square

two slices of pizza small

Regina Pizzeria (Fenway, Boston)

The Official Pizza of the Red Sox for a reason, Regina Pizza is as Boston as the Citgo sign! Started in the North End, this outpost near Fenway Park is a joyful place to grab a quick slice, but you can also try it inside the Park. The pizza is always a hit, no frills, and the perfect non-greasy slice — join our Fenway Food Tour to try it yourself!

Website Address: 1330 Boylston Street, Fenway, Boston

pizza in a box

Pizza and Sub Stop (Lowell, Massachusetts)

Honestly, you haven’t lived until you’ve had tikka masala pizza – hot and steamy and incredible flavors, we are HERE for this fusion. In Lowell, there’s no place that does it better than Pizza and Sub Stop, a hole in the wall on Merrimack Street just steps from the first CVS — try their Indian pizza menu, and you won’t be disappointed.

Website Address: 5 Merrimack Street, Lowell

Pinocchio’s (Harvard Square, Cambridge)

Yes it is Mark Zuckerberg’s favorite pizza from the time he was a student at Harvard. And it’s also a favored slice in Harvard Square. Pinocchio’s delivers a delicious pie, cut in rectangular pieces. Our favorite is their traditional Sicilian tomato basil, and the crust is light and airy so you won’t feel weighed down. Curious to try some? Take our Harvard Square Food Tour this Sunday, and we’ll indulge!

Website Address: 73 Winthrop Street, Cambridge, Harvard Square

Veggie Crust (Union Square, Somerville)

Rare is there a delicious multigrain crust, but we ship Veggie Crust’s delicious thin crust multigrain with all the veggies. This spot right outside of Union Square in Somerville also has delicious vegan pizza. Our favorite is the Garden Veggie with added corn (hold the ginger and jalapenos for us!) and of course the multigrain crust. I would say it’s on speed-dial in our house. And now they have a second location in Brookline.

Website Address: 445 Somerville Ave., Somerville, Union Square

Hot Box (Union Square, Somerville, Bow Market)

Well there’s bar pizza, and it’s delicious. What makes it a bar pizza, you say? Practically no crust! And we love it! At Hot Box in Somerville, you’ll find a red circular pie filled to the brim with sauce and cheese — just sizzling with flavor. Their 10″ South Shore pies are available inside Bow Market, which we visit on our Union Square Somerville Food Tour on Sundays.

Romanos Pizza (Roslindale, Boston)

While doing research for our Roslindale Boston Food Tour, we discovered Romano’s sicilian slice. Although it’s currently a mix of mexican and italian offerings, this pizza spot fits right in town which has diverse roots. There are lots of delicious Italian spots around Roslindale from Tony’s Market to Sophia’s Grotto.

Website Address: 4249 Washington Street, Roslindale, Boston

Bella Luna & The Milky Way (Jamaica Plain, Boston)

My favorite memory is visiting here on Pie (3.14) day because they really have fun with it. You can’t go wrong with a pizza at Bella Luna — right near the Sam Adams brewery. They have a variety of cosmic pizzas and also a full menu if you’re interested in doing a pizza as an app instead. Try our Jamaica Plain Food Tour for more delicious options!

Website Address: 284 Amory Street, Jamaica Plain, Boston

HighBrow (Northampton, MA)

Yum! HighBrow hearth pies are just what the doctor ordered – and we were excited to find them while researching for our Northampton Food Tours! Chef Drew runs a full wood-fired kitchen, and he uses high quality ingredients that delight and inspire — from short rib pizza to truffle mushroom.

Website Address: 12 Crafts Avenue, Northampton, MA

On every Boston Food Tour and Chocolate Tour, we serve a variety of unique foods and treats to tickle your taste buds and indulge your senses and sweet tooths. Really, there is something for everyone on our unique experiences. So check our Tour Calendar and join us this week.

What Food Is Boston Most Famous For?

First thing’s first, it’s a good idea to know what food Boston is most famous for before you decide which tour is best for you. And because it’s a city, you could argue that pretty much all cuisine shines here, but there are definitely two types of food that are going to stand out in Boston:

🍝 Italian and 🦞 Seafood !

Between the 1850s and early 1900s, a large population of Italians immigrated to Boston via the Port of Boston, and many of them settled in the North End. Now, the North End is famous for charming and historic streets, and … you guessed it – Italian food! If you love Italian cuisine, this is where you should go (or take your tour!).

And of course, seafood is another star of the Boston food scene simply because of its location on the coast. Menus all across the city will feature fresh seafood from coastal towns like Wellfleet, Chatham, Ipswich, Nantucket and more . In particular, if you see Wellfleet or Chatham oysters, Nantucket scallops or Maine lobster on the menu, you’ll definitely want to consider ordering those!

  • Come hungry! I know it seems this goes without saying, but most food tours will equal an entire meal. Be sure to read the description to find out how much food you’ll be eating, and come hungry enough for it!
  • Bring a reusable water bottle if your tour doesn’t provide drinks or bottled water. Some do, but it’s best to check and come prepared.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask questions on your tour! The guides are local experts, and they love sharing their knowledge on the food scene in Boston. Don’t hesitate to raise your hand and get all your questions answered. I also highly suggest asking where to eat during the rest of your trip because they’ll have awesome off-the-beaten-path recommendations!

PEOPLE's 24 Hour Food Tour: Boston

Local seafood spots, a late-night dive that can't be missed and more restaurant recommendations for a quick trip to Boston

Writer and editor Jillian Dara considers Boston her second home. After attending Emerson College in Boston, Jillian spent time living in London, Santiago, Chile and New York City before moving back to Beantown. During her time abroad, Boston’s culinary scene exploded and she returned to cover restaurant openings, chef profiles and beverage trends for local publications in addition to her national freelance portfolio of publications, including Food & Wine , Michelin Guide and Decanter .

Boston’s culinary scene is far beyond emerging — it’s currently flourishing as local and international chefs are satiating the global palate all while ensuring that New England classics don’t fall by the wayside. Any tourist in the Bean should indulge in the regional seafood favorites, from clam chowder to lobster rolls (who serves the best one is an ongoing debate, but Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are among the celebrities who approve of the highly-rated James Hook & Company ). But you'll also want to leave room for international flavors — there's great Portuguese, Greek, Lebanese and French — that have brought Boston’s restaurants into the spotlight. It’s challenging to pack everything all in one day, but 24 hours will certainly whet your appetite enough to entice you to return even hungrier.

Breakfast: Bistro du Midi

Brian Samuels

Begin your food tour in the most quintessential Boston neighborhood of Back Bay at Bistro du Midi , a French cafe and bistro that overlooks the Public Garden. While Parisian staples like moules frites and wagyu beef tartare tantalize on the dinner menu, the weekend brunch shouldn’t be overlooked. Chef-partner Robert Sisca started his career as a sous chef at Le Bernardin in New York City, so you know his ability to champion elevated French cuisine is next level. (Celebrity chef Eric Ripert ’s Le Bernardin has maintained its three Michelin stars since 2005.) Sisca brings that French flair to breakfast with Duck Confit Foieffles, a playful, French twist on chicken and waffles where the confit is served on a Belgian waffle with kumquat, pomegranate, maple syrup and foie butter. There’s also the Crêpes Suzette, prepared with vanilla ricotta crème patisserie and orange; and the Croque Madame, layered with black forest ham, mornay, Gruyère and sunny side eggs. Chef Sisca’s personal pride is the classic French Omelette as it's smooth, airy and fluffy as a result of lightly scrambling the eggs, using water and never cream or milk. It’s served the traditional French way, with asparagus, French feta, chive and pommes frites or salad. If you think the dining room looks familiar, re-watch What’s Your Number? , as a scene from the 2011 movie starring Chris Evans and Anna Faris was filmed here. Other celebrity diners at Bistro du Midi have included: Harry Connick Jr., Drew Barrymore , Pedro Martínez, Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis .

Lunch: Hook + Line

elevensevenmedia

After a morning in one of the most historic neighborhoods, it’s time to head to one of the city’s newest, most burgeoning districts: the Seaport. Zag your way through a maze of recently developed residential towers and soaring office buildings to the waterfront where Hook + Line is ready to satisfy your essential New England cravings. Local restaurateur Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli, opened this regionally-inspired seafood restaurant as a response to the wave of international chains opening their latest outposts in Boston. He wanted to ensure an authentic seafood culture remained. Schlesinger-Guidelli curated a menu to highlight his favorite childhood dishes like stuffies (New England baked stuffed clams with buttery breadcrumbs and chorizo) and fried clams served with the works (fries, coleslaw and malt onion soubise) but also spotlighting coastal regions around the world with rotating fish from whole-roasted, Mediterranean branzino to wood-grilled Loch Duart Scottish salmon. On a sunny, summer day, nothing beats a lobster roll on their patio, which Schlesinger-Guidelli chose to serve two ways: the roll is cut in half with one side presented cold and tossed in mayonnaise and the other warm, drizzled with butter. Don’t forget there's also daily rotating regional oysters on the half shell.

Dinner: Myers + Chang

Kristin Teig

Husband-wife duo Christopher Myers and Joanne Chang opened their eponymous restaurant in 2007 to present a neighborhood eatery that fuses eastern and western flavors through a self-described “Asian-ish” menu with influence from Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean cuisine. Flavorful dishes tie to personal experiences from the couple's life — like Mama Chang’s pork and chive dumplings that Chang grew up making every weekend or the pan-roasted soy glazed salmon that Chang cooked for Myers when they were first dating. By night, the street lights twinkle in the oversized windows, reflecting against a moody interior that feels personal and homey.

Spot a Celebrity at: Neptune Oyster

Ana M. Reyes

Open seven days a week, this intimate North End hotspot features a daily special to match, including sea urchin bucatini on Tuesdays and cuttle ink risotto on Fridays. Perhaps the most evergreen special, the lobster spaghettini has appeared as a Monday special since Neptune Oyster ’s owner Jeff Nace first served it to Leonardo DiCaprio when he was in town filming The Departed . Bring your appetite — the plate is piled with thin noodles in a garlic, white wine, and tomato sauce, under a layer of Maine lobster meat, breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese — and patience since there’s usually a line out the door for a coveted bar seat.

Sweet Treat: Modern Pastry

While in the North End, save room for a sweet treat at one of the most institutional bakeries in the city. As Italian immigrants, the Picariello family established Modern Pastry on Hanover Street in 1930 to share the authentic sweets they left behind with the new country they called home. The original location remains as does the recipes for the lauded cakes, cookies, pies, tarts and cannolis lining the wrap-around glass displays. If you only try one thing, make it a build-your-only-cannoli, choosing from the traditional with Ricotta filling or variations like vanilla custard and whipped cream as well as chocolate chips, pistachio or sliced almond toppings.

Late Night Snack: Anchovies

Somewhat of a hidden gem among locals in the know, this South End dive bar dishes out Italian comfort food until 1:30 a.m. Favorites include fried mozzarella, meatballs, prosciutto-stuffed calzones or simply pick at a heaping basket of truffle fries as last call is announced. Its ideal location means you’ll never end a night out hungry, whether you’re barhopping in Back Bay, sipping nearby at South End haunt or coming from a game at TD Garden.

Bagelsaurus

Porter Square | Bagels

A pale bagel sandwich holds pickled red onions, dill, cream cheese and fish.

Bostonians don’t need more guff from New Yorkers, and they certainly don’t want to hear any food bragging, which seems likely to devolve into vulgarities. When it comes to bagels, Boston can’t claim ownership of a style, though Bagelsaurus wouldn’t be a bad example for others in the city to emulate. Using a sourdough starter that’s four decades old, Bagelsaurus’s bagels aren’t as dense as New York or Montreal versions. Fresh from the oven, they bear a chewy and crackly crust with an airy, open interior, like a warm circular baguette. It turns out that this lighter texture makes adding cold-smoked salmon, dill and cream cheese a much more pleasurable sandwich experience. What’s more, a Bagelsaurus bagel sitting out for a few hours doesn’t harden into an object capable of blunt-force trauma. KEVIN PANG

Bánh Mì Ba Lẹ

Dorchester | Vietnamese, Sandwiches

“Fast food” isn’t necessarily pejorative. At Bánh Mì Ba Lẹ, the sheer quantity of Vietnamese groceries, pastries, dessert drinks, noodle salads and hot prepared foods is an overwhelming sight. (With many, just pop the plastic lid and start consuming — it’s that fast.) But there’s a reason the bánh mì is its namesake sandwich. The speed with which they are made belies their refinement. What makes Ba Lẹ’s version especially memorable are the house-baked rolls, with a shatteringly crisp crust and a soft, open interior. When you bite into a freshly made bánh mì here, be prepared for a shrapnel of crumbs exploding in every direction, giving way to tender pork cold cuts, smooth livery pâté and crunchy matchsticks of pickled daikon and carrots. Even better than the flagship đặc biệt sandwich is the barbecue beef bánh mì, its grilled meat bearing the sweetest char you’ll encounter. KEVIN PANG

1052 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester; 617-265-7171; balebanhmiboston.com

Brookline | Greek

Just as you wouldn’t find spaghetti alla puttanesca in Venice, there’s no trace of octopus, branzino or horiatiki on the Greek menu at Bar Vlaha. The restaurant tells the story of the Vlachophone Greeks, historically shepherds from the mountains of northern and central Greece. Unlike their coastal counterparts, the Vlachs foraged mushrooms and snails from forests, caught eels from streams and trout from freshwater lakes. This is Greek cooking with more rustic intentions, with red wine, beef cheeks and prunes marrying for hours inside clay pots. Undeniably, Bar Vlaha’s flavors are of Greek provenance — the spit-roasted leg of lamb is redolent of oregano, rosemary and char — but even familiar sauces get Vlachian touches; the tzatziki, for example, is sweetened with honey. KEVIN PANG

1653 Beacon Street, Brookline; 617-906-8556; barvlaha.com

Belle Isle Seafood

Winthrop | Seafood

Don’t let anyone tell you being a fry cook isn’t a noble calling. Especially when frying seafood, where the margin between perfectly done and overcooked is measured in seconds. Belle Isle Seafood — essentially a waterfront warehouse with views of arriving flights at Logan International Airport — has clearly battered and deep-fried many tons of haddock, scallops and onion rings. A plate of fried pick-your-protein will arrive oversized, with an ideal combination of nongreasy and satisfyingly crisp. For the fried-averse, the lobster pie is fabulous but hardly more calorically advisable: a half-pound of lobster meat topped with breadcrumbs and butter and baked until golden, a direct line to the pleasure centers of the brain. KEVIN PANG

1 Main Street, Winthrop; 617-567-1619; belleisleseafood.net

Union Square | Peruvian

They say that first, you eat with your eyes. Even before a single dish hits the table at Celeste, the surrounding visuals prime you with expectations. The clean lines of the furniture, the room lit in cobalt blue and the restaurant’s neon sign all make you feel you’re at a modern art exhibition doubling as a Peruvian restaurant. Then the ceviche arrives in an arrangement that looks architecturally engineered. It’s a gorgeous pavilion of red onions, orange sweet potatoes, blue cod, squid and shrimp, with smooth and crunchy corn kernels scattered through. Then you taste it. Lesser ceviches elsewhere are made ahead for expediency, turning the fish mealy; the cooks here add the lime juice marinade one minute before it’s served. I could go on (I’ve never had a lomo saltado that allowed me to request the doneness of the beef), but you should just visit, with open eyes. KEVIN PANG

21 Bow Street, Somerville, 617-616-5319; celesteunionsquare.com

Comfort Kitchen

Dorchester | African Diaspora

Is this dish Indian? Jamaican? Senegalese? At Comfort Kitchen, those questions are the whole point. Here, the owners Biplaw Rai, who is from Nepal, and Kwasi Kwaa, from Ghana, want to illustrate just how connected food traditions are, through ingredients that have traveled across continents, either through forced migration or trade routes. Duck is dusted with jerk seasoning, served alongside Jamaican rice and peas and served with pikliz, a pickled vegetable condiment from Haiti. Okra is seared in brown butter, topped with fried plantain crumbs and served with yogurt seasoned with garam masala from Mr. Rai’s mother. Despite all this zigzagging through countries and flavors, each dish still manages to feel coherent and captivating — like a story unfolding in several parts. PRIYA KRISHNA

611 Columbia Road, Dorchester; 617-329-6910; comfortkitchenbos.com

Brookline Village | Sandwiches

Most sandwiches fall into that midzone of expectations, somewhere between acceptable and halfway decent. To stumble upon a spectacular sandwich is rare, which makes Cutty’s a unicorn. Since 2010, the wife-and-husband team Rachel and Charles Kelsey have engineered sandwiches with a rigor befitting their fine-dining pedigree. They understand that different proteins require different breads, toasted to a specific crispness; a plush brioche is best for roast beef with crispy shallots and Thousand Island, while ciabatta can withstand crisp bacon and sautéed Swiss chard. The Kelseys’ sandwich meditations yield bliss in unexpected places: If the idea of a broccoli rabe sandwich sounds dreadful, allow Cutty’s magnificent rendition — with sweet tomato jam, provolone, and mozzarella on a griddled sesame torta — to prove you dead wrong. KEVIN PANG

284 Washington Street, Brookline; 617-505-1844; cuttyfoods.com

Field & Vine

Union Square |New American

Tucked down an alley, Field & Vine reveals itself as a restaurant in an industrial space slowly being reclaimed by nature. Wisteria and grapevines twist into a sculptural bramble that hangs overhead, as if about to swallow the exposed ductwork, and everywhere there is greenery and candlelight. If Sara Markey and Andrew Brady’s restaurant were simply pretty, that’d be enough reason to come sip some wine at the bar. But there are unexpected moments of inventiveness on the menu: a tuna crudo pounded into a 12-inch LP with candied pistachios and rhubarb vinaigrette, or potatoes deep-fried into a hash-brown brick topped with house-smoked mackerel and garlic spread. To further the enchanted woodland theme, a hearth is put to fine use, crisping duck legs and charring cabbage. KEVIN PANG

9 Sanborn Court, Somerville; 617-718-2333; fieldandvinesomerville.com

Porter Square | Italian

Certain restaurants become forever linked with hallmark dishes, like the baked alaska at Oleana or the cannoli at Mike’s Pastry . Giulia, known for its exceptional handmade pastas, can claim four dishes beloved by the Boston dining cognoscenti: the wild boar pappardelle, bucatini all’amatriciana, warm semolina cakes and pistachio gelato. There’s something reassuring about walking into this restaurant with total confidence that all four are fully realized compositions, their deliciousness not up for debate. And that’s no slight to the newer dishes rotated onto the menu by the chef, Michael Pagliarini (he and his wife, Pamela Ralston, are co-owners). But those classics embody the simple, sophisticated cooking that has endeared Giulia to the Cambridge community; you will almost wish you lived within walking distance. KEVIN PANG

1682 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge; 617-441-2800; giuliarestaurant.com

Brookline Village | Thai

What makes Thai cooking alluring is that its sweet-sour-salty-spicy elements are so often pushed thrillingly up the dial. When those assertive flavors are parceled out onto small plates and spread over many courses — as they are at Mahaniyom — a meal turns Technicolor. Dining at this Thai tapas bar sets off many sensory pleasures, from the velvety fieriness in a crab red curry to fried chicken skins that crackle mightily. You taste these dishes in cramped seating arrangements over loud conversations in a dim space that rattles with kinetic energy. Chompon Boonnak and Smuch Saikamthorn, childhood friends turned restaurant owners, have even captured that spirit in their beverage program: The rye whiskey is steeped with Thai tea leaves, then used in a Sazerac. KEVIN PANG

Back Bay | Tasting Menu

How many tasting-menu restaurants would serve a straight-up grilled cheese sandwich? Mooncusser does, and it’s playful, unexpected moves like this that make its multicourse dinners far less daunting. In the three years since Carl Dooley took over as chef, the menu has evolved from a focus on seafood to global eclecticism. Successive courses might travel the world, from a dish evoking Texas (a marinated red snapper with smoked pecan tasting like barbecued crudo) to an Ethiopian preparation (snails and injera with green cardamom koch-kocha sauce), to a Korean American grilled cheese. That mini-sandwich — with kimchi and a dough hydrated with butternut squash juice — turns an afterthought like the bread course into something top-of-mind and sensational. KEVIN PANG

Ming Seafood Restaurant

Quincy | Cantonese, Dim Sum

A rule of thumb for dim sum restaurants: Bigger is often better. For in-the-know customers, crowds waiting for tables in a large banquet hall is a validating sight, and an expansive menu demonstrates a kitchen’s confidence. Ming Seafood Restaurant is big in all those ways. It does the basics well — juicy shumai, beef ho fun noodles with the requisite char. But then there’s a section called “fusion dim sum,” and here’s where things get interesting. You could order a sampler of nine pieces from the fusion menu that arrive in a partitioned wood box. There’s a shrimp-truffle dumpling in a cuttlefish ink wrapper. There’s mango pudding set in a rubber-ducky mold and a durian pastry shaped like a swan. A bit wacky? Sure. But a little whimsy is welcome if you can nail the fundamentals. KEVIN PANG

477 Hancock Street, Quincy; 617-202-5118; ming.bz

Neptune Oyster

North End | Seafood

After 18 years in the North End, Neptune is as much a part of Boston as tour guides in tricorn hats and “Go, Sawx!” You will wait, often more than an hour, but once you are ensconced in a banquette, or better yet at the bar, you will savor the perch. Neptune is among the highest versions of the oyster-bar form — pressed-tin ceilings, a marble bar, iced beds of bivalves and crab claws — but it is also more. Dishes like cuttle-ink risotto with generous chunks of lobster, and Nantucket Bay scallop crudo with Persian cucumbers lift the menu above the merely canonical. There’s a lobster roll, of course, but you didn’t wait all that time for a lobster roll. Or maybe you did. BRIAN GALLAGHER

Nightshade Noodle Bar

Lynn | French Vietnamese

As restaurants began digging out of financial holes after the pandemic, many opted to serve more accessible dishes, with artistry taking a back seat. Five years ago Nightshade Noodle bar opened on the North Shore, with half the menu features noodles of some kind. But post-lockdown, the chef Rachel Miller zigged when most others zagged: She guessed that guests yearning for adventurous cooking would be receptive to a French-Vietnamese-Southern tasting menu. Her gamble paid off, both in popularity and culinary ambition. Over nine, 14 or 21 courses, you might encounter foie gras glazed with fish-sauce caramel sitting atop coconut sticky rice (a Vietnamese nigiri), or a wondrous grilled cardinal prawn, the size of an outstretched palm, doused with a Viet-Cajun butter of garlic and lemongrass. KEVIN PANG

73 Exchange Street, Lynn; 781-780-9470; nightshadenoodlebar.com

Downtown | Omakase Sushi

When Tim and Nancy Cushman opened O Ya 17 years ago, the idea of introducing ceviche marinades or Vietnamese caramel into Edomae sushi was provocative. But O Ya’s staying power shows that inventive spirit paid off. Like all great omakases, a night at O Ya is more than the sum of its parts: It’s the crescendos and countermelodies that weave between courses. Unexpected treatments of nigiri (a Georgian sauce of apricots and walnuts on bluefin maguro) give way to lighter sashimi. The meal progresses to richer bites like fatty chutoro with green onions and wasabi oil, before ending on a one-two punch of grilled A5 Wagyu, then foie gras lacquered with chocolate balsamic. It remains a thrilling ride. KEVIN PANG

Central Square | New American

Years ago, Pammy’s received plenty of good press for adding the Korean fermented chile paste gochujang to its Bolognese. It’s delicious, to be sure, but that pasta’s success was also a curse — Pammy’s was misinterpreted as the funky Italian spot between Harvard and Central Squares. But Pammy’s is no one-hit wonder. Here’s a restaurant where a starter plate is bread baked with flour milled in the kitchen each morning. There’s a buttery skate wing glazed with Japanese tonkatsu sauce, and a take on shrimp-and-grits with cardinal prawns and chile crisp. That’s not to say the owners, Pam and Chris Willis, hide their pasta acumen. The standout dish is a luscious, smoky pasta that’s equal parts braised tripe and wavy mafaldine noodles, an incomparable bowl of squiggly goodness. KEVIN PANG

Fort Point and other locations | Seafood

Chuck an oyster shell in any direction in Boston and you’ll hit a seafood restaurant, from blue-collar fry houses to multistory harborfront properties. Row 34 (with four locations across Massachusetts and New Hampshire) serves the requisite clam chowder, halibut and calamari, but it takes a few extra steps in advancing the genre. It smokes, cures and pâtés a variety of seafoods, it makes saltine crackers in-house, and lobsters — caught by the chef Jeremy Sewall’s cousin and his son — land on plates within 48 hours of leaving the ocean. The resulting lobster rolls cost more here than at other restaurants, but they are superlative. KEVIN PANG

Winter Hill | Mediterranean, Global

Fusion has become a pejorative term, evoking passé ideas like Southwestern egg rolls. If you’d like to label the chef Cassie Piuma’s cooking as Mediterranean fusion, fine, but it sells short how well her cross-cultural mash-up at Sarma often works. The through line of the vast, small-plates menu is Eastern Mediterranean, but it might wander off to the American South in a custardy jalapeño cornbread with feta, or to Quebec in a poutine of porcini gravy, fried halloumi curds and celery-root fries. In Ms. Piuma’s techniques there’s a respectful nod to tradition, but she’s also unafraid to break a few rules, all in service of making the dish work. If you can make juicy nuggets of fried chicken with a crispy coating reminiscent of falafel, why not? KEVIN PANG

Sofra Bakery and Cafe

Cambridge | Turkish, Lebanese and Greek

Come early and order everything. That’s the appropriate way to experience Sofra, whose menu tours Turkey, Lebanon and Greece, and whose flavor combinations are singular. Here you’ll find excellent versions of classic meze like baba ghanouj and muhammara. But pay close attention to the pastries, overseen by Maura Kilpatrick. Doughnuts come filled with a tahini sour-cream custard and brown butter; cinnamon rolls are sweetened with dates and slathered in cream cheese. Nothing is cloying, and the chef Ana Sortun and her team put the utmost care into perfecting each element, down to the freshly milled grains. PRIYA KRISHNA

Sumiao Hunan Kitchen

Kendall Square | Hunanese

Sumiao Chen had a midcareer epiphany that a life in pharmaceuticals wasn’t right for her. Longing for the food of her childhood in Hunan, China, Ms. Chen opened her namesake restaurant in 2017 near the M.I.T. campus, one that resembles no other Chinese spot around town. From the outside looking in, you might think a place with this vibey coastal aesthetic would serve crab cakes and flatbread, but the restaurant’s adherence to traditional Hunanese cooking is without compromise. When a dish is noted as spicy, you’d better believe it — even a salad as innocuous-sounding as green pepper and century egg sneaks up quickly. Those unaccustomed to the slippery texture of fat might flinch at the sheer amount in the red-braised pork belly, but this classic sweet-savory dish of Hunan warms and satisfies like few others. Union Square | Vietnamese

There are several remarkable things about the Eaves, beginning with the location. Shoehorned inside a 550-square-foot storage closet at Bow Market, the space was seductively transformed by the owners, Vincenzo Le and Duong Huynh. More noteworthy is that in less than a year since opening, the Eaves has demonstrated how Vietnamese cooking in America can evolve beyond the realm of phở and bún bò huế. Mr. Le and Ms. Huynh, who are married, belong to a new generation of Vietnamese restaurateurs, young and hungry, presenting dishes and cocktails faithful to their culinary heritage at prices you’d find on a farm-to-table menu. They pull it off splendidly in offerings like chả cá lã Vọng — typically cooked with catfish in its native Hanoi and reimagined in New England with monkfish — fried crisp with turmeric and served atop vermicelli and cashews. Jamaica Plain | Italian

Unlike many other Boston neighborhoods, Jamaica Plain (locals call it J.P.) is home to few Italian restaurants. Tonino fills that void with aplomb; the 28-seater is the embodiment of somebody’s favorite cute neighborhood spot. The pasta- and pizza-focused menu put together by the chef and owner, Luke Fetbroth, is taut and efficient. His best trait seems to be taking a handful of ingredients and doing as little to them as possible. The maitake and oyster-mushroom lumache is simple and flawless, its creaminess coming from roasted garlic crème fraîche. Then there’s toasted cubes of housemade bread, each smeared with a borderline inappropriate amount of butter and draped with a single length of anchovy. It is a salty, buttery, perfect one-biter. South End | Spanish

The Ken Oringer restaurant universe stretches from Japanese to Italian to wine bars, but his South End tapas joint Toro — 20 years on — may be the most beloved. Perhaps it’s because the small portions of Spanish tapas can afford punchier treatments and bolder flavors: A pressed sandwich of miso butter and uni achieves peak crunch and umami. The executive chef, Darrell Boles, is a faithful steward of the Toro name, his kitchen putting out consistently superb roasted bone marrow and formidable platters of paella. These are dishes that never fail to receive envious stares from guests at nearby tables. KEVIN PANG

Via Cannuccia

Dorchester | Roman

All Italian-born chefs will claim culinary superiority for their home regions; Stefano Quaresima seems impassioned to make the case for Lazio. Named for the street where he grew up, Via Cannuccia might be the closest Boston gets to a true Roman trattoria. The lengths to which Mr. Quaresima goes to showcase his corner of Italy are impressive: His team prepares cream buns and bombolini doughnuts for brunch, rolls out pasta and pizza doughs, and finds time to roast porchetta and bake sourdough. Lesser chefs might just use quartered chicken for pollo alla Romana. Mr. Quaresima’s version, though, involves a chicken ballotine, deboned and sausage-stuffed, then cooked sous vide for 18 hours. His treatment of cacio e pepe, the quintessential Roman pasta, teases out supreme creaminess and nuttiness from just four ingredients. KEVIN PANG

Yume Ga Arukara

Porter Square, Seaport | Udon

Yume Ga Arukara makes just one thing and makes it well: udon, the thick Japanese wheat flour noodles. They’re extruded from the stainless steel machine in beautiful floured strands, and emerge smooth and slippery once boiled, with the barest suggestion of a chew. The purest expression of udon is in a dashi broth — here, your choices are hot or cold, spicy or not, each accompanied by fatty beef slices, scallions and crisp tempura bits. Take your pick, you can’t choose wrong. While its original location occupies a cramped and perpetually busy space inside a student center at the Lesley University Porter Square Campus, the new Seaport shop is a sit-down restaurant with a larger kitchen, which in time will offer a larger menu. Best things to do in Rhode Island this week: April 19-26

Wicked Tulips Flower Farm's Exeter location is open, and its Johnston location is expected to open the week of April 22.

What do trapeze artists, John Waters, pizza, tulips, beer, Ben Folds, and flower parades all have in common? They’re all in Rhody this week, my friends. Here’s the coolest fun in the 401.

Let’s ride.

SEASON OPENER

In case you’re reading this April 18, I’ll note that tonight is the seconnd Annual WaterFire Day in PVD. Yup, WaterFire season starts now. The first lighting of the season will be a partial one, with a lighting ceremony around 7:30 p.m. with pyres burning until 9:30 p.m. Expect a “small WaterFire Marketplace” in Memorial Park. WaterFire also hosts a community partner fundraiser, encouraging Rhode Islanders to explore Providence’s renowned restaurants, bars, and shops. Visitors have the opportunity to generate extra support for WaterFire by visiting any of the participating WaterFire Day businesses, which donate 10 percent of sales on April 18 to WaterFire Providence, according to WaterFire. Details here .

GALLERY NIGHT

Coinciding for a perfect creative storm? April 18 is also Gallery Night. Like WaterFire, Gallery Night is part of what makes Providence the Creative Capital. Hop on a trolley to see galleries, museums and other creative hot-spots with one of five free guided tours, or visit the “ Make Your Own Tour ” page and go it on your own. Details here.

There’s still time to grab a slice — or four. Providence Pizza Week runs through April 20. Creative pies galore. Examples: Trinity Brewhouse offers “The Dirty Bird” — fried chicken, jalapeños and hot honey. Antonio’s Pizza by the Slice on Thayer and Wickenden serves up the truffle-loaded tater tot — truffle parmesan aioli, scallions bacon, truffle oil, and cheddar cheese. While Trattoria Appia soothes a sweet tooth: “Nutella Pizza” — brick-fired oven pizza with Nutella, strawberry and whipped cream. Vote for your fave. Details here .

TIME TO TIPTOE …

... Through wicked tulips. One of Rhody’s treasures is Wicked Tulips Flower Farms, with locations in Exeter and Johnston. (If you’re up for a road trip, their largest farm is in Preston, Conn.) Instagram was born for places like this. According to their website, the Exeter farm is open and expects to be open through April 22. The Johnston farm is expected to open the week of April 22.

Mother Nature determines the exact dates. Check online before you plan a trip. Details on pricing, FAQs, do’s and don’ts, photography rules and more are on their website. They suggest you read “Visitor 101″ . Online tickets only. Prices depends on the day. Adults from $20. Ages 5-17 $5; ages 4 and under are free. Exeter location: 400 Hog House Hill Road. Johnston location: 90 Brown Ave. Details here .

I SPEAK FOR THE TREES

If I can get my Lorax on here and throw in my two cents: This might sound trite, but every day actually is Earth Day. Pollution and global warming is no joke. On the calendar, we celebrate Earth Day on April 22, and there are a number of cleanups you can register to get involved with, but please remember you don’t need to sign up, register, or drive anywhere to think about this planet. Grab a trash bag and walk your neighborhood or local beach. Here are a few other ways to help this week:

  • Roger Williams Park at 1000 Elmwood Ave., in Providence, hosts a clean-up April 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. Register and details here .
  • Providence’s Downtown Neighborhood Association hosts a cleanup April 19, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Check in at The Landing, 101 Dyer St. Details here.
  • East Greenwich hosts a cleanup April 20 at 10 a.m. Meet at Academy Field or Frenchtown School, followed by refreshments at Academy Field at noon. Details here .
  • Blackstone Parks Conservatory hosts a Riverbank Cleanup in collaboration with the Geo Club of Brown University April 20 at 10 a.m. Meet at Blackstone Field, across from the Narragansett Boat Club, 2 River Drive, Providence. Details here .

KID EARTH PARTIES

Instill an early appreciation for nature and taking care of this planet. Two ideas this week:

Ninigret Park hosts an Earth Day Celebration April 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free activities for the whole family, with vendors and organizations offering earth friendly information and education, according to billing. 7 Park Lane, Charlestown. Details here .

It’s a “Party for the Planet” at Roger Williams Park Zoo April 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids can “enjoy a family fun-filled day that emphasizes the importance of protecting our planet,” according to billing. Expect “up-close animal encounters, keeper talks,” and interactive bird shows at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Plus hands-on education stations, live music, “costumed character meet & greets,” and more. With regular zoo admission. 1000 Elmwood Ave., Providence. Details here .

TIVERTON GARDEN EXPO

Meanwhile, the Tiverton Public Library hosts a free-admission “Earth Day Garden Expo” April 20 from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Score free seed packets, bring a soil sample from your garden for free advice from University of Rhode Island master gardeners, shop gardening books, plus raffle and activities for all ages. 34 Roosevelt Ave. Details here .

JOHN WATERS’ BIRTHDAY PARTY

Let’s get weird. The Personality, capital P, that is John Waters celebrates his birthday in PVD April 20 with “Devil’s Advocate: 78th Birthday Show.” You know might know the pencil-thin mustachioed Waters as writer/director/ of “Cecil B. Demented” or “Hairspray” among other films. The “patron saint ” of the Provincetown International Film Festival, as the Globe called him, regales Providence with a one-man birthday show two days before his actual birthday, in a show billed simply as “John Waters is turning 78 and you’re invited to the party.” Enough said. Doors 7 p.m., show 8 p.m. At the Columbus Theatre, 270 Broadway. 18+. GA from $40. Details here .

NEWPORT BEER FEST

Hop on it, hops fans: Tickets to this beer fest are going fast. The 2024 Newport Beer Fest is April 20 from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Expect some 50 breweries pouring brews for the rain-or-shine event, plus food for purchase — including Aquidneck Island Oyster Co., Newport Chowder Company, Binge BBQ, La Costa Lobster and Tacos, Cluck Truck and more — and live music. Ticket-buyers will be entered into a drawing for two tickets to the Fort Adams Trust’s annual Fourth of July celebration. From $65. 80 Fort Adams Drive. Details here .

DAFFY PARADES AND A FLOWER SHOW

Each April, Newport goes daffy, as they expect the blooming of nearly 1.5 million daffodils. The 13th Annual Newport Daffodil Days runs through April 28. Daffy highlights this week:

  • Watch a Daffodil Ride of costumed riders and decorated bikes April 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The route is from Touro Park to Ballard Park. According to their eventbrite , it’s sold out to ride, but you can watch the spectacle, and of course, take your own daffodil bike ride any day, any time.
  • It’s “Blithewold in Bloom: A 2024 American Daffodil Society Show” at Blithewold Gardens in Bristol April 20 and 21. According to billing, “Daffodil enthusiasts proudly display their flowers individually and in arrangements as they compete for awards and share their enthusiasm. The display will begin in Blithewold’s historic Carriage House Visitors Center and continue with floral arrangements placed throughout the first floor of the Mansion.” 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, included with regular admission. 101 Ferry Road, Bristol. Details here .
  • Driving Miss Daffodil: The 10th annual Audrain Automobile Museum Daffodil Parade, dubbed “Driving Miss Daffodil,” is April 21 from 8 to 10 a.m. (Check out the images on their site — I’m no car buff, but some of these rides look pretty sweet .) Prizes awarded to “best-dressed” car. The route is approximately 10 miles, and concludes at Audrain Cars & Coffee at Sachuest Beach. Participants can join the Cars & Coffee event. $50 per vehicle. Details here .
  • All these event details and more here .

BEN FOLDS & A RHODE ISLANDER

If you’re a ‘90s kid, you started singing either “Brick” or “Kate” aloud at your screen just seeing “Ben Folds.” The Emmy-nominated singer/songwriter/bestselling author/podcast host will be sans Five, but with a piano on April 24 at the Vets for “Ben Folds and a Piano.”

He’s also with a Rhode Islander. I&R — aka Josh Cournoyer — opens. A Coventry native now living in Nashville, you might know Cournoyer as the former frontman for Providence-based Northern Lands, according to The Vets. He also served as house manager for the Met in Pawtucket, and is a member of the founding board of directors for the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, was the assistant engineer on Folds’ ‘23 release “What Matters Most,” according to The Vets. Doors 6:30 p.m. show 7:30 p.m. From $44.50. 1 Avenue of the Arts. Learn more about Folds here and Cournoyer here .

THE CIRCUS COMES TO TOWN

Literally. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey rolls into PVD April 26. We’re getting into next week’s column-territory here, but expect six shows from April 26-28 at the AMP, including April 26 at 7 p.m. Some 75 performers hailing from 18 countries will put on a show that includes, according to a press release: stunts like “The Triangular Highwire, and “ Double Wheel of Destiny ,” comedic performances, “a modern take on clowning,” juggling, acrobatics, and dancing. Plus a skate park where BMX riders perform stunts, and trapeze artists, aerialists, music and more. 1 LaSalle Square. Tickets from $20. Details here .

Until next week, Rhody: Keep rockin.’

Entertainment, rock trailblazer heart reunites for a world tour and a new song.

NEW YORK – Heart — the pioneering band that melds Nancy Wilson’s shredding guitar with her sister Ann’s powerhouse vocals — is hitting the road this spring and fall for a world tour that Nancy Wilson describes as “the full-on rocker size.”

“I’ve been strengthening. I’ve got my trainer,” she says. “You go one day at a time and you strengthen one workout session at a time. It’s a lot of work, but it’s the only job I know how to do.”

Recommended Videos

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers who gave us classic tracks like “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You” and “Alone” will be playing all the hits, some tracks from of their solo albums — like Ann Wilson's “Miss One and Only” and Nancy Wilson's “Love Mistake” — and a new song called “Roll the Dice.”

“I like to say we have really good problems because the problem we have is to choose between a bunch of different, really cool songs that people love already,” says Nancy Wilson.

Like “Barracuda,” a sonic burst which first appeared on the band’s second album, “Little Queen” and is one of the band’s most memorable songs.

“You can’t mess with ‘Barracuda.’ It’s just the way it is. It is great. You get on the horse and you ride. It’s a galloping steed of a ride to go on. And for everybody, including the band."

The tour kicks off Saturday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, and will hit cities including Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Detroit, as well as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. International dates include stops in London, Oslo, Berlin, Stockholm, Montreal and Glasgow.

The band's Royal Flush Tour will have Cheap Trick as the opening act for many stops, but Def Leppard and Journey will join for three stadium dates in Cleveland, Toronto and Boston this summer.

Ann and Nancy Wilson will be filled out by Ryan Wariner (lead and rhythm guitar), Ryan Waters (guitars), Paul Moak (guitars, keyboards and backing vocals), Tony Lucido (bass and backing vocals) and Sean T. Lane (drums).

The tour is the first in several years for Heart, which was rocked by a body blow in 2016 when Ann Wilson’s husband was arrested for assaulting Nancy’s 16-year-old twin sons. Nancy Wilson says that's all in the past.

“We can take any kind of turbulence, me and Ann, and we’ve always been OK together,” she says. “We’re still steering the ship and happy to do it together. So we’re tight.”

The new tour will take them to Canada, which was warm to the band when they were starting out as what Nancy Wilson calls “a couple of chicks from Seattle.” She recalls Vancouver embracing Heart, and touring in one van across Canada in the dead of winter on two lane highways.

The Wilson sisters broke rock's glass ceiling in the '70s and Nancy Wilson says they only had male influences to look to, like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Moody Blues.

Now she says she looks out and loves seeing generations of female rockers. “You have boygenius and you have Billie Eilish and you have Olivia Rodrigo and so many amazing women — Maggie Rogers and Sheryl Crow, who calls us her big influence. And then Billie Eilish might have Sheryl Crow as her influence. So it’s a really nice legacy to pass along. I like to say we’re the OG — the original gangsters — of women and rock.”

Heart has made it into the Rock Hall, won Grammys, sold millions of albums and rocked hundreds of thousands of fans but Nancy Wilson has one place she'd still like to shine.

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of their debut album, “Dreamboat Annie,” which was the same year that “Saturday Night Live” started. “So we’re actually kind of putting it out there — Heart never played on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ But what about the 50th birthday party with Heart?”
