Retro-drenched lo-fi ballad “Lonely Night” with MUNYA—co-written with Ben Browning of Cut Copy–incorporates all the sweet things that make a straight-up, easy to love song and blends it with romantic melancholy with an added softness courtesy of verses in French.

“When Poolside sent me the demo for Lonely Night, I was immediately inspired by the song. I first wrote the lyrics in French and sent it to Jeff and he proposed the idea of having a version in English as well,” shares MUNYA. “I remember he was at a hair salon while I was doing my laundry at a laundromat and we were just texting back and forth and wrote the lyrics in English. I think we had everything done within a day. It was fun and easy!”

“So, Ben Browning and I wrote this love song during one of our marathon garage writing sessions. We wanted to give it a poolside, campfire beach vibe with some steel drums thrown in. We intentionally used a broken Juno 106 synth to give it a lo-fi dad vibe that’s super cool but also not cool at the same time. We sent it to Munya and she was a perfect fit for the song. We used the Korg Mono/Poly for the arps during the chorus and it has a really chill campfire singing vibe. The song is about a dumb guy who can’t keep a girlfriend because he won’t change for anyone,” shares Jeffrey Paradise. “After writing the first verse and chorus, we realized we didn’t have much to say, so we thought, ‘what if we do this as a duet? We found Munya and loved her voice, so we hit her up on Instagram and asked her to work on the song. She sent us back a version in French and we texted back and forth while I was getting a haircut and she was doing laundry for the English version. We molded it so that it could accept midi and sent our arpeggio to it, giving it a warm and lush feel.”

Look for the “Lonely Night” video to premier via YouTube tomorrow (November 15) at 6pm UTC / 6pm GMT / 10am PST / 1pm EST.

Recent tour reviews

First on stage is Casey Butler the eclectic saxophone player playing a solo. He also plays different instruments throughout the concert: keyboards and a lap steel guitar. Then comes the singer, who is also a bass player and the guitarist that doubles supporting vocals. The rhythmic part revolves around the congas player, the only woman of the group, and the drummer.

They are really groovy and funky, they remind me a bit of Khruangbin, but with a much more varied rhythmic part, and of course there are not as many guitar solos.

The first song And the Sea brings an atmosphere of summer. The lyrics are simple and the song is pleasant, although not particularly exciting.

Around the Suns three-voice chorus has echoes of 80s songs. The same can be said about Feel Alright. Again not a particularly exciting song.

Can’t stop your loving with its synthetized keyboards and slightly lo-fi base is another hint to the 70s.

Do You Believe is probably the biggest hit this band will ever produce, as it was featured in GTA V. The live version does not have as many instrumental parts as the original.

Tropical Heartache with its flat-notes reminds me almost immediately of the sound of XTC. However the acoustic part is more repetitive except for the queer keyboard solo.

Heat builds entirely on three-notes played at infinitum. Here again the vocals and lyrics are weak.

Harvest Moon with its delicate chords played on a lap steel guitar, is the best song of the set. No surprise since it’s a cover of Neil Young.

The closing song Everything Goes, again it has the signature falsetto of the singer. It has a solid acoustic part.

In general many songs are quite similar and have little personality and the presence on stage of the band is not that strong. Casey Butler is an exception as he is both extremely talented and very passionate in its performance.

The band was on point and played a delightfully tight set. Casey Butler stole the show switching from percussion, to keys, to sax, to slide guitar. What a guy, what a show!

If you like Poolside's albums, stay at home and listen to them on a good speaker system. The live show was bland, the instrumentals were at best par for a live-band course, there were no breakdowns, no solos, no deviations from the album versions, and the vocals not only were rarely harmonized, but were often flat. Stick to laying by the poolside and saving your money.

Poolside has announced their 2024 headlining North American Tour with a pit stop at Brooklyn Steel on February 17, and new single “Lonely Night (French version)” released on November 14.

poolside band tour

Poolside is the recording project of producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Paradise. In 2011, Poolside has set out to produce chill music for summer soirees, a light and danceable kind of music with liquid rhythm that was named “Daytime Disco”.

“When Poolside sent me the demo for Lonely Night, I was immediately inspired by the song. I first wrote the lyrics in French and sent it to Jeff and he proposed the idea of having a version in English as well”  – MUNYA

Jeffrey Paradise revealed the French version of “Lonely Nights” with MUNYA on November 14, from his latest album Blame It All On Love and is pleased to announce upcoming tour dates for 2024 starting in Santa Barbara at the Soho Music Club on January 19.

While this is Poolside’s fourth studio album, Paradise leaves the shallows and enters the depths of his own creative voice. The eleven tracks are funky, playful, laidback and full of hooks that elevate Poolside’s sound to poignant pop heights. The lo-fi ballad “Lonely Night” co-written with MUNYA incorporates all the sweet things that make an easy to love song and blends it with romantic melancholy that adds a softness of verses in French.

Poolside Kicks off the ‘Blame it All On Love’ Tour at Santa Barbara’s Beloved SOhO Music Club

Poolside’s Jeffrey Paradise Discusses Songwriting, Tour Life, and Getting Personal as He Gears Up to Tour North America

poolside band tour

Steeping a mugful of green tea and surrounded by an almost excessive amount of house plants in his cozy Topanga Canyon home, Poolside’s Jeffrey Paradise is every bit as chill as you’d expect him to be. His energy is perfectly aligned with the light, breezy, “day-time disco” beats featured on all four of Poolside’s albums. As he gears up to kick off the Blame it All On Love Tour, Paradise is excited to finally experience Santa Barbara on the weekend (he’ll perform at SOhO on Friday, January 19), enjoy all the good food here, and travel by bus on what he is describing as his “first big boy band tour.”

From his 2011 “Harvest Moon” remix that originally earned him traction, it has taken Paradise over a decade to stubbornly accept his role as a frontman. “I’d never really thought the music was going to become more personal,” Paradise said. “The music business is so fickle. I just didn’t expect this to be a career. I always expected it to be like, oh, ‘I did that during that time of my life.’”

After realizing that this music thing was more than temporary in his fourth studio album Blame it All On Love , Paradise finally leans into being a performer and singer and veers away from his original idea of Poolside as his “DJ project” making background tracks for dinner and pool parties. Following his year off spent exploring other passions and reading self-help books, Paradise found himself once again drawn to create music, this time ready to get more personal and return to his roots on guitar and vocals.

Being such a collaborative effort, it only makes sense that Paradise will be touring the Blame it on Love album with a six-piece supporting ensemble. He loves working with other artists partly for the camaraderie, but also to bring unique vocals, lyrics, and sonic qualities to the tracks. The record features artists like MUNYA, Ben Browning, Panama, Vansire, and more, who will all be joining him intermittently throughout the tour.

The process of working with each artist is different and depends on their style and location. Because the process can be so intimate, Paradise chooses to work with friends or ends up becoming friends with his collaborators by the time they are done working together. With so much music making being done virtually nowadays, some Poolside collabs have been sparked on social media and produced across oceans.

“I think I’ve met everyone [of the featured artists] now in person but some of the tracks will be finished and we will have never even met.” Paradise said. In the case with Vansire, it wasn’t until they spent five days working on a music video “that was pretty involved,” that the two became good friends and have now hung out “in several cities several different times.”

“I just hit her up on Instagram because I was a fan.” Paradise said about MUNYA, “She was like, ‘Cool. Let’s do it.’” The two ended up writing the lyrics for “Lonely Night” over text which was a first for Paradise. He’s excited to have MUNYA joining him for his Brooklyn show.

Despite having a narrative theme for this album and tapping into his personal life for inspiration, Paradise finds that it still meets “all the criteria of early Poolside,” which he described as “loungy” and “functional,” placing less emphasis on lyrics and the traditional composition of “verse, chorus, bridge, chorus.”

The title Blame it All On Love is up for interpretation but Paradise sees it as more of a celebration of the things we blame on love rather than in a cynical sense. “Even the shit you don’t like to do like going to school or work or having a bad job, you’re usually doing that to support your family or to buy a car you want,” Paradise explained.

Shortly after moving into his dream home, driving back from a night out, Paradise and his girlfriend spent hours helping two injured motorcyclists who were victims of a hit and run accident and a witness who was allegedly being held hostage by the perpetrator in an abandoned house nearby. After further police investigation and midway through making Blame it All On Love , it turned out that the supposed witness was in fact the perpetrator herself.

This sense of betrayal and fear sent Paradise into a paranoiac obsession with stalking the abandoned home to protect the things he loved: his relationship and his new home. Not only was this event a manifestation of what he was writing about, according to a statement about the album, the “irking sense of unease made its way into Blame it All On Love ’s otherwise sunny sound in the form of sonic distortion.”

Accompanying five of the 11 tracks are music videos that illustrate the mixed emotions Paradise expresses in his lyrics and instrumentals. In the same vein of getting more personal with songwriting, this is the first time that Paradise starred in the videos and even filmed in his own home and car. The familiar yet strange dinner party spread depicted in the “Float Away” music video captures the same surreal feeling that the bright guitar and distorted keyboard do in the song.

Coming from his DJing background, Paradise and his band has been rehearsing and experimenting to bring the best versions of both his past, more highly produced projects and the instrument-forward songs on Blame it All On Love to the stage. Whereas when Paradise first started playing music in his high school and college bands, they would rehearse together live and maybe record a song a year later, now the tracks will be completely recorded before he even approaches a live version. “In a weird way we are like a cover band of ourselves,” Paradise said.

Paradise is interrupted by Soren, his adorable rescue (what he assumes to be) shih tzu as he is envisioning tour life. In disbelief that his childhood dream of taking a tour bus around North America is coming to fruition, it finally hits him that he has successfully turned his DJing gig into a serious career in music.

To purchase tickets and find more information about Poolside’s opening show at SOhO Music Club on January 19, visit poolsidemusic.com/tour . In the meantime, look out for more remixes set to drop before the start of and throughout the tour.

poolside band tour

While writing the fourth studio album, “Blame It All On Love,” for his Los Angeles area-based chillwave project Poolside, producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Paradise found himself transported straight back to high school.

Though Paradise admits that the initial intention was never to tap into the teenage sense of wonder or the high hopes and extreme lows of young love, it all unfolded as a natural byproduct of allowing himself to more freely explore. He took a step back, imagining himself in his teenage bedroom, where he spent hours immersed in the creative process. Back then, he was fueled by the dream that at least one person, whether it be his parents or someone on the internet, would listen.

These days, there’s thousands of fans ready to hear what Paradise has to play live on stage, particularly on his latest North American tour, which is in support of the new record. He’ll hit The Sound in Del Mar on Jan. 25 and then play a hometown show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Jan. 26.

Los Angeles-based band Poolside is the musical project of songwriter,...

“Without realizing, this whole project was a return to the way I wrote songs when I was in high school and it felt like this weird recognition of going back to the beginning,” Paradise said during a recent Zoom interview. “It’s like going to a very known and comfortable place, but at the same time, you’re a different person. So, of course, it’s different. But it was comforting. I didn’t even know that this would work and I just thought I’d try it and I might sound like a child again, but let’s take a chance. I wanted to experiment with writing music from wherever that comes from rather than thinking ‘This is what I need to or have to do.’ When you’re a teenager, you do this just because it all feels amazing. It’s a different place.”

Recorded mostly at Paradise’s home in the hills of Malibu, the 11-track record seeps the distinct nu-disco and chillwave Poolside feel that’s heavily known to transport anyone listening into the sun-drenched streets of Los Angeles. Since forming in 2011, coinciding with Paradise’s move to Los Angeles after graduating from college in San Francisco, the entire project has served as a heartfelt homage to the city that gave Poolside its breakthrough.

For Paradise, “Blame It All On Love” is no different, and maintains the tradition of delivering a warm and relaxing experience that, while not a prerequisite for listeners living in Los Angeles, perfectly complements the city’s vibes.

Yet, the record also dives into the double-edged sword feelings of attaining everything you desire, paired with the uncomfortable emotions that accompany success. From the seductive synth opener “Ride With You” to the lo-fi ballad “Lonely Night,” each story details a lesson or experience Paradise faced in the delicate balance between the gritty and the beautiful moments.

“When I look back again at the overall theme of the album and this era, it’s acknowledging that everything good also comes with a little bad. It goes back to this sort of bittersweet Shakespearean sort of darker side of love, where that’s found in the process of life,” Paradise said. “In life, you have the shadow side of going for what you pursue or when things work out whether that be getting the dream job, getting the car you wanted or even getting an A on your paper. Whatever it is that you think is going to make this shift in who you are, you realize it’s just you in the end. You don’t change radically. And I wanted to write on that.”

Reflecting on the project’s origins, Paradise recalls its early days at local Los Angeles spots like The Standard and The Echo, along with the Detroit Bar (now The Wayfarer) in Costa Mesa. Paradise stresses that without the help of Southern California venues and local radio stations, the dream of Poolside would have never been brought to life.

“So many of the smaller venues in (Los Angeles) gave us our start,” Paradise said. “And honestly, it’s crazy and feels like a full circle moment to be going on tour and playing bigger stages and ones I love, and as of now, they seem to be selling out.”

Now, as Paradise and the full live band ready for the upcoming tour, he expresses particular excitement about playing to his hometown audiences and dedicated fans who have been there since the beginning. For Paradise, what makes performing for these audiences truly unique is the profound sense of community he has felt since the inception of the project. But more than anything, its the chance to bring a sense of presence, to live in the moment and be able to soak it all up.

“I think of music as a gateway to bring levity to people and I think there’s like a communal kind of shared joy that you can experience,” Paradise said. “At any Poolside show, I believe that happens when the crowd is just one and there’s that sort of reprieve from the day to day. But not in an escapist way, you’re just in the moment. For me, music is one of the only things that does that, so it’s my goal to also give that back to the audiences.”

AEROSMITH Announces Rescheduled Dates For 'Peace Out' Farewell Tour

AEROSMITH   has announced the rescheduled dates for the band's "Peace Out" farewell tour.

The trek will kick off on September 20 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where the legendary Massachusetts rockers played at the start of last year's original run, and will include a return appearance at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 41-date tour will conclude on February 26, 2025 at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. Support on the trek will once again come from THE BLACK CROWES , who recently released their new album, "Happiness Bastards" .

AEROSMITH postponed the original "Peace Out" farewell tour dates after singer Steven Tyler suffered vocal cord damage in September 2023. The news came two weeks after AEROSMITH postponed six shows on the trek in order to allow Tyler time to recover from his injury.

When AEROSMITH announced the tour postponement, the band said in a statement: : "To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven 's vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care.

"He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential. As a result, all the currently scheduled 'Peace Out' shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more."

Tyler said in an accompanying statement: "I am heartbroken to not be out there with AEROSMITH , my brothers and the incredible BLACK CROWES , rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!"

AEROSMITH kicked off its "Peace Out" farewell on September 2, 2023 at the 21,000-capacity Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

AEROSMITH 's 18-song set opened with "Back In The Saddle" and included a cover of FLEETWOOD MAC 's "Stop Messin' Around" , before closing with a two-song encore of "Dream On" and "Walk This Way" .

Produced by Live Nation , the 40-date North American tour was scheduled to make stops at arenas across the U.S. and Canada, including Los Angeles's Kia Forum, New York's Madison Square Garden and Toronto's Scotiabank Arena, with a special stop in their hometown of Boston for New Year's Eve 2023.

The "Peace Out" run of dates was originally set to wrap on January 26, 2024 in Montreal. Special guests THE BLACK CROWES were joining AEROSMITH for the entire tour, which was to celebrate AEROSMITH 's five decades of music.

Prior to the launch of "Peace Out" , AEROSMITH wrapped its critically acclaimed Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM. Ahead of the residency, AEROSMITH returned to its hometown in Boston to perform a record-breaking one-off show at Fenway Park as part of the legendary band's 50th anniversary celebrations. With over 38,700 people in attendance, it was the most tickets sold to date for a show at the iconic venue.

In May 2022, AEROSMITH announced that Tyler had entered a treatment program following a relapse, prompting the band to put their Las Vegas residency on a temporary hold.

Tyler had been struggling with drug and alcohol addiction since the mid-1980s. Over the course of the last four decades, he had relapsed several times, including in the early 2000s and 2009.
