What Are All The Professional Golf Tours Around The World?
Have you ever stopped to consider just how many professional golf tours there are around the world? There’s actually a lot more than you might think, and while we’re not going to cover all of them, we thought we’d at least cover some of the biggest pro golf tours worldwide right here! Let’s get started.
If we’re going by name recognition alone, the PGA Tour wins hands down. This tournament is one of the most well-known events in the entire sport. The PGA runs all pro golf tournaments throughout the US and North America.
The organization is membership-based, and its members are some of the best golfers in the game. The aim is to expand golf to grow opportunities for domestic and international players.
The LPGA is similar to the PGA, except that it’s for women. The Ladies Professional Golf Association is one of the leading pro golf organizations in the world for women. The events created, hosted, and operated by the LPGA primarily take place within the United States of America. There are 5 annual major championships, and it too is a membership-based organization.
Think of the Korn Ferry tour as a pre-PGA tour. Officially it’s known as a developmental tour for pro golfers who’ve yet to be welcomed into the fold that is the exclusive PGA Tour. It’s an organization for those who've not yet qualified or have qualified but have been unsuccessful at earning enough money to stay at the required levels. Whoever lands in the top 25 spots is granted entry into the PGA membership program for the following season.
Similar to how the Korn Ferry is a pre-curser to the PGA, Symetra is the pre-curser to the LPGA. It’s also known as the ‘Road to the LPGA’ and is open to both amateur and professional female golfers. While Korn Ferry allows the top 25 players entry, Symetra only allows the top 10 players on the money list to join the LPGA with full membership come the following season.

The World's 10 Biggest Women's Golf Tours
The LPGA and LET are the most publicised women’s tours, but did you know that there are actually 10 significant women’s tours worldwide? We take a look at each

With women’s golf booming there’s never been a better time to play the game professionally. There’s more sponsorship money and more opportunities for women to play golf competitively for a living. In fact there are eight women’s tours globally. So whether you’re an aspiring professional hoping to graduate from the amateur ranks, or simply an avid supporter of the women’s game, there’s certainly a lot going on in the global competitive scene.
Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA)
Let’s start with the biggest and most publicised women’s golf tour in the world - the LPGA Tour. The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) began the LPGA Tour, a series of weekly golf tournaments in 1950 when 13 pioneers including Babe Zaharias, Patty Berg and Louise Suggs had a dream to provide for elite women golfers with a platform to play professional golf. The founders were elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame as a group in 2023.
The LPGA began as a tour with events just across the USA but has since expanded to have a more global presence with a handful of co-sanctioned events now held outside of the United States in Asia, Europe, Australia and Canada. Every year it goes from strength-to-strength.
In 2020 the LPGA Tour soared to new prize-fund heights breaking through the $70 million prize purse mark, making it the world’s richest tour for women. Because of that it is widely regarded as the largest and most prestigious women’s tour to play on.
In order to earn playing rights (a tour card) to compete on the LPGA Tour, women professionals have to graduate through an annual qualifying school. This can take up to four stages to negotiate, each like a regular golf tournament with only a small number of players going on to the next stage.
The final qualifying school is over six rounds. Those successful join the leaders on the previous year’s LPGA money list/order of merit, and certain other exempt players who have maintained their playing rights, as members of the tour.
Epson Golf Tour
The Epson Tour is the LPGA’s developmental tour, it was founded in 1981. It has changed its name several time over the last two decades due to various sponsors, so you may have heard of it before as the LPGA Futures Tour, the Duramed Futures Tour or even the Symetra Tour.

The tour is made up of a series of events played all over the USA (22 in 2023) culminating with a season-ending Epson Tour Championship. This tournament has been played at River Run Country Club in Davidson, North Carolina since 2020. The top 10 players on the tour’s money list earn their LPGA Tour card for the next season, and those just outside that mark (the next 24 players) get to improve their status for LPGA Tour Qualifying School.
American Auston Kim is one to watch. She has just won the 2023 Epson Tour Championship and will be hoping to make a fast-start on the LPGA next year. You don’t have to be a professional to play on the tour, it is also open to top-ranked amateurs, many of whom use it as a springboard to turn professional if they successfully earn their card.
Auston Kim, winner of the 2023 Epson Tour
Women's All Pro Tour (WAPT)
The Women’s All-Pro Tour is the official qualifying tour for the LPGA’s Epson Tour. Women may participate in the WAPT as a member or as a guest, allowing amateurs as well as professionals to compete. The beauty of this tour is that there are different entry options available.
The women who choose to become full members pay an annual joining fee (less than $700) giving them preferential rates on the entry fees to the individual events, free range balls at tournaments, lunches and practice rounds and other perks. For those interested in competing, but not yet sure whether it’s right for them, they can pay one-off entry fees to the individual events to compete.
In 2023 the tour also introduced a new six-event WAFT Collegiate Series, running from the end of May through to the start of August, as summer preparation before returning to compete in college.
Ladies European Tour (LET)
The Ladies European Tour (LET) was founded in 1978 and has its headquarters at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club on the outskirts of London. There are over 130 players from more than 40 countries internationally competing on the tour, which runs a full-schedule of events (29 in 2023) across five continents.
It is fair to say that the LET has had a very turbulent history, nearly collapsing through lack of sponsorship and funding in the 1980s, leading to tour members forming the Ladies European Tour Limited in 2000.
In January 2020 the LET entered into a joint venture arrangement with the LPGA Tour with the aim of increasing the playing opportunities for female golfers in Europe. With that has come more exposure and sponsorship like the Aramco Team Series .
The LET also organises and runs the Solheim Cup when it is in Europe. Like the LPGA, in order to gain a tour card and playing rights to compete on the LET you have to go through several stages of qualifying school, culminating in Q-School Finals.
Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS)
The Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS) is the LET’s developmental tour. It’s been running since 2010 and in that time has produced some notable graduates including English winners Lily May Humphreys and Meghan MacLaren who have both gone onto win on the LET.
The top six players on the LETAS Order of Merit earn LET membership for the Ladies European Tour. Those that just miss out but finish in spots 7-20 get to skip the first stage of the qualifying event and progress straight to Q-School finals.
You don’t have to be a professional golfer to play on LETAS, it’s open to amateur golfers also, as long as you are over the age of 18 and have a handicap of two or better. There were 16 events played in 12 countries across Europe in 2023 with a total tour prize fund purse of just over £720,000.
Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen from Denmark won the 2023 LETAS
LPGA Of Japan Tour
The LPGA of Japan Tour is a women’s professional golf tour organised by the Japan Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association. It has been running since 1968 and has the second biggest prize purse in women’s golf, just behind the LPGA with $60 million.
There were 38 events played in 2023 all across Japan. Women’s World Golf Hall of Famer Hisako “Chako” Higuchi holds the record for the most prolific wins on the JLPGA of all time with 69 victories spanning over two decades from 1968-1990.
LPGA Of Korea Tour
The KLPGA Tour was catapulted into the global golf spotlight back in 2020 coming out of Covid-19 pandemic, as the KLPGA Championship was the first professional golf event, in the men’s or women’s game to be played since we went into lockdown.
The Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour (KLPGA) is a women’s tour played mainly in South Korea, with one event each played in Vietnam, Taiwan and China. The tour began in 2008 and every year grows in size and popularity with upwards of 30 events on the schedule, the highlight being the KLPGA Championship.
With more than a handful of the world’s top 20 players, a seemingly endless supply of title contenders, including over 30 major winners all hailing from Korea, it’s fair to say that the Korea Tour certainly produces some fine female golfers.
Women’s World top 30 player Min-Ji Park was the tour’s most prolific winner in 2023, with six victories amassing her over $1.4million. Women’s World Number 15 Jiyai Shin had a record-breaking nine victories from 18 starts on the KLPGA Tour in 2007 while still a teenager. Also, reigning Olympic champion Inbee Park , a 7-time Major champion, is one of the South Korean golfers who made a successful start to her career on the KLPGA before graduating to the big-money earning LPGA Tour.
7-time Major winner Inbee Park began her career on the KLPGA
WPGA Tour Of Australasia
Formerly known as the ALPG Tour, as the name suggests, the WPGA Tour of Australasia is a professional golf tour for women which is based in Australia. It was founded in 1972 by the Ladies Professional Golf Association of Australia, although in the early years there were only a handful of events and the tour struggled, it has since gone onto be a big success with over 150 members.
There were 18 tournaments played this season (2022/23) over the Australian summer (between November and March) including the ANZ Ladies Masters, MFS Australian Open and New Zealand Women’s Open, all three co-sanctioned with the LET.
The tour’s most famous graduate is former women’s world number one Karrie Webb , a Golf World Hall of Famer, who was a prolific winner on the WPGA and then subsequently the LPGA - a real global face in women’s golf.
China LPGA Tour
The China LGPA Tour is a professional golf tour for women organised by the China Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association, which has been running since 2008. Although there are only a handful of events played on the China LPGA Tour (13 on the 2023 schedule) thanks to the opportunity to co-sanction many of these with the bigger tours, Chinese golf gets put into the annual spotlight.
In total there are four events co-sanctioned with the LET and one each with the LPGA Tour, the ALPG Tour and the LAGT. Although the number of events is low the prize funds are rich. In fact, in the 2023 Buick LPGA Shanghai event, players were competing for a massive $2.1 million purse. The winner, double Major champion in 2023 American Lilia Vu, took home the top prize of £315,000 along with the champion's trophy.
Sunshine Ladies Tour
The Sunshine Ladies Tour was founded in 2014 with the goal of changing the face of golf in Africa by making the sport more accessible and inclusive to all women. It’s open to professionals and low handicap amateurs and over the last 10 years has consistently provided a pipeline of talent for the world stage.
Through its co-sanctioned events with the Ladies European Tour (LET) and the Sunshine Ladies Tour, a six-week summer swing at the start of the year allows women from over 40 countries worldwide to get their season underway in South Africa. Thanks to the tour’s longstanding partnership with Investec, the top three professionals in the order of merit gain automatic entry into the following year’s Investec South African Women’s Open and the winner receives a bonus prize worth R200,000.
Carly Frost is one of the golf industry’s best-known female writers, having worked for golf magazines for over 20 years. As a consistent three-handicapper who plays competitive club golf at Parkstone and the Isle of Purbeck courses in Dorset every week, Carly is well-versed in what lady golfers love. Her passion for golf and skill at writing combine to give her an unbeatable insight into the ladies game.
Carly’s role at Golf Monthly is to help deliver thorough and accurate ladies equipment reviews, buying advice and comparisons to help you find exactly what you are looking for. So whether it’s the latest driver, set of irons, golf ball, pair of shoes or even an outfit, Carly will help you decide what to buy. Over the years Carly has been fortunate to play some of the greatest courses in the world. Her view ‘from the ladies tee’ is invaluable. She ranks Sea Island, Georgia, USA, where she met her husband, world-renowned golf coach Dan Frost, among her favourite golf resorts. Their aptly-named eight-year-old son Hogan is already hitting the ball as far as Mum and will undoubtedly be a name to watch out for in the future. Carly is a keen competitor and her list of golfing achievements are vast. She is a former winner of the South West of England Ladies Intermediate Championship, a three-time winner of the European Media Masters and she once beat an entire start-sheet of men to the title of Times Corporate World Golf Champion. She has played for both the Dorset and Surrey County Ladies first teams and is known for her excellent track record at matchplay.
Carly holds the ladies course record (68) at her home club Parkstone and her lowest competition round (seven-under-par 65) was carded in the pro-am of the Irish Ladies Open at Killeen Castle, playing alongside Solheim Cup superstar Anna Nordqvist. Although her current handicap index has crept up to 3.7 since Covid she has her sights firmly set on achieving that elusive scratch handicap and hopefully playing for her country when she’s 50.

Disc Golf Pro Tour Announces Unified 2024 European Tour
Disc Golf Stream to merge with Disc Golf Network
October 25, 2023: The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT), the official Pro Tour of the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), is thrilled to announce a new agreement with the European Pro Tour (EPT) to create a singular unified European tour called DGPT Europe. PDGA Europe, which has operated the PDGA Euro Tour, is in support of this new partnership.
Under the new agreement, the European Pro Tour has merged with the DGPT, and their leadership team will continue in leadership roles with DGPT Europe. Juha Kytö (former EPT CEO) has been named the DGPT Europe Media Director, and Mikko Wikman (former Tour Director for the EPT) will serve as a DGPT Europe Operations Manager. Additionally, Leiv Aspén (TD of the Krokhol Open), will also join DGPT Europe in a part-time capacity in operations management.
Central to this partnership is the merger of the European Pro Tour’s live streaming service, Disc Golf Stream, with the DGPT’s Disc Golf Network. Disc Golf Stream will undergo a subscriber migration with the Disc Golf Network this off-season, and DGN will host all 2024 live broadcasts.
The PDGA Euro Tour , which is the professional competition arm of PDGA Europe , will pause its independent PDGA Euro Tour Open Divisions series, opting instead to support DGPT Europe. This collaboration is intended to develop support similar to that provided by the Global and U.S. PDGA Operations and Logistics team for DGPT events in the United States. DGPT Europe looks forward to exploring how PDGA Europe could extend similar support to DGPT Europe events in their respective countries.
“We believe that this agreement is the right direction, and we will support it with our expertise for the integral growth of our beloved game in Europe,” said Antti Taronen, PDGA Europe Board of Directors President.
“We’re excited to continue to work with PDGA Europe in 2024 by expanding and supporting the great effort they have made to take professional disc golf to the next phase in Europe,” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO.
“This collaboration marks the beginning of a new era for professional disc golf in Europe,” continued Spring. “By pooling resources and expertise from several major players in the disc golf community, we aim to deliver an unmatched experience for fans and players alike as the European disc golf market continues to grow and develop. We’re thrilled to bring in the entrepreneurial passion and expertise of Juha, Mikko and Leiv to this new effort. They have helped launch the growth of professional disc golf across the continent and will help lead the continued evolution.”
“The DGPT and the European Pro Tour both originated with a singular vision: elevating professional disc golf. This unification signifies a shared dedication to that foundational goal,” said Juha Kytö, formerly the CEO of EPT and now transitioning to Director of Media for DGPT Europe. “As we unite under this shared goal, we’re also merging the vast array of talents and expertise that have been a part of the European Pro Tour, PDGA Euro Tour, and PDGA Majors in Europe. With Mikko Wikman concentrating solely on Operations, I’m thrilled to spearhead our media efforts. Collaborating closely with the seasoned team at Disc Golf Network, I’m eager to pool together European stakeholders to enhance and amplify our media offerings. Fans can anticipate not only a broader range of coverage but also a heightened quality.
The European Pro Tour was funded in part by Prodigy Europe, and their team contributed immensely to the development of the EPT since its inception. Prodigy and the DGPT have also struck a deal as part of this new agreement, and their leadership will continue to advise the DGPT in an effort to see the European market flourish. “ It has been a pleasure to work and plan with Lasse Paju, and we’re excited to have the leadership of him and his team to help guide this new venture, ” said Spring.
“I want to thank everyone involved over the last two seasons,” said Lasse Paju, CEO of Prodigy Disc Europe. “Working with such a committed team and outstanding partner network has been rewarding. We’re excited about this new collaboration. Together, I’m confident we’ll develop disc golf even faster in Europe.”
DGPT Europe Event Classes
Five European tournaments from previous stops on the European Pro Tour or PDGA Euro Tour will be included in the standard 2024 DGPT event class (100% points weight – sanctioned as PDGA Elite Series). Additional events will be sanctioned as PDGA A-tiers and will receive DGPT Europe Silver Event status (50% points weight).
While the DGPT recently announced that it had ended the use of the Silver Event designation for U.S. events, it will continue to sanction Silver Events in Europe to encourage growth and round out a European touring schedule.
“Having determined that it’s time to set aside Silver Events and shift our focus to developing a qualifying series in the U.S., we recognize that the European market still requires Silver Events to help grow and sustain a balanced Tour,” said Spring. “While we expect the European market also to reach a similar point in the future, Silver Events will continue to be a part of DGPT’s growth strategy as they provide additional competition opportunities between standard Tour stops and will allow DGPT Europe to develop more relationships with top-level courses and organizers.”
DGPT Europe is still in the process of scheduling 2024 Silver Events and is looking for additional bids. European events who would like to be considered for Silver status can submit their interest here . The dates and locations of DGPT Europe Silver Events will be released this off-season. DGPT Europe encourages bids from interested local organizing committees from Central and Southern Europe, where developmental efforts will be focused.
DGPT Europe Points System
For the 2024 season, the DGPT will maintain two points standings: a DGPT World Standings that awards spots in the 2024 DGPT Championship, and a standalone DGPT Europe points standings. DGPT Europe will not have a stand-alone Tour Championship in 2024, but will instead use its separate points standings to award bonus payouts and 2025 Tour Cards to top finishers.
- The five DGPT Europe events included in the standard event class (100% points weight – sanctioned as PDGA Elite Series) will count points towards both the DGPT World Standings and the separate European points standings. These events will be covered LIVE on the Disc Golf Network.
- DGPT Europe’s Silver Events (50% points weight – sanctioned as PDGA A-tiers) will only count points towards the stand-alone European points standings. These events will not receive live coverage on the Disc Golf Network.
2024 DGPT European Schedule (PDGA Elite Series)
Does not include DGPT Europe Silver events (TBA). Additionally, the PCS Open, a previous DGPT event in Norway, will take a year off Tour but is expected to return for future seasons.
Final 2024 DGPT points system information, including how many events will count in each event class, will be released after the 2024 European Silver events are announced.

The List: Mini-Tours
The Challenge Tour, Korn Ferry Tour and Sunshine Tour are for golfers aiming at the major Tours, but what are the mini-Tours a rung below? BRENDAN BARRATT has the list.
There are a lot of very talented golfers desperately trying to make their way to the next level while spending as little cash as possible.
From driving cheap cars long distances between tournaments to sleeping in the front seat or staying in low-budget hotels, carrying their own golf bags and getting by without any real form of income other than prize money, it’s a far cry from the pampered lifestyles of the professionals on the PGA and DP World Tours.
To make matters more challenging, most of the Tours have relatively high entry fees and low purses, meaning that players are living hand to mouth – in the hope they can achieve their one big breakthrough.
Here are some of the mini-Tours that carry the hopes and dreams of golfers who, while relatively unknown, are better than any of us will ever be.
IGT Big Easy Tour
In South Africa, the IGT Big Easy Tour is the official developmental Tour of the Sunshine Tour. Launched in 2010, it offers players a good testing ground against professionals and top amateurs, as well as a direct avenue to the Sunshine Tour, with the top 10 players for the season earning their Tour cards for the following year. Notable graduates: Daniel van Tonder, Dylan Frittelli, Christiaan Bezuidenhout
PGA EuroPro Tour
Launched in 2002, the EuroPro Tour gives up-and-coming European golfers a platform to showcase their skills and play their way on to the Challenge Tour. It’s also had a few South Africans come through the ranks, including Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Thomas Aiken and Branden Grace. Notable graduates: Tyrrell Hatton (below) , Tommy Fleetwood.
Bushveld Tour
Another local developmental Tour, the Bushveld Tour offers one-day (18-hole) tournaments for amateurs and professionals. Entry fees are in the region of R1 000, meaning players need to realistically finish in the top 10 to cover their costs, which is a pretty solid grounding for life on the bigger Tours. Notable graduates: Jacques Blaauw
Pro Golf Tour
The Pro Golf Tour is one of four official satellite tours in Europe recognised by the DP World Tour as a gateway to the Challenge Tour, with the top five players at the end of the season earning their Challenge Tour cards. Founded in 1997, the Tour now has 16 tournaments across six countries and a total purse of €500,000. Notable graduates: Martin Kaymer
Another satellite Tour that leads to the Challenge Tour, the Alps Tour was launched in Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland in 2001. While the countries involved may have changed over the years, the basic premise has not. Notable graduates: Matt Wallace, Adri Arnaus
PGA Tour Latinoamerica, Mackenzie Tour, Forme Tour
In 2011, the PGA Tour took over the running of the Tour de las Americas, rebranding it as the PGA Tour Latinoamerica. A year later the PGA Tour took the reins of the Canadian Tour and it was renamed the Mackenzie Tour in 2015 as part of a sponsorship agreement. In 2021, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and to support those players who had earned Mackenzie Tour cards but were unable to travel between the US and Canada, the PGA Tour launched the Forme Tour. Notable PGA Tour Latinoamerica graduates: Harry Higgs (below) , Keith Mitchell, Emiliano Grillo Notable Mackenzie Tour graduates: Tony Finau, Joel Dahmen
Symetra Tour
Formerly known as the LPGA Futures Tour, the Symetra Tour is seen as the official qualifying Tour for the LPGA Tour. With over 20 events and in excess of $3-million in prize money, it is a great breeding ground for the next generation of LPGA stars. To date, 435 LPGA titles have been won by former Symetra Tour players. Notable graduates: Lorena Ochoa, Inbee Park, Nelly Korda
Let Access Series
Launched in 2010, the Let Access Series is the official developmental Tour to the Ladies European Tour. By 2019 it had built up a head of steam, with 20 events and a total purse of over a million euros, but Covid-19 has taken its toll and the Tour was down to 14 events in 2021. Notable graduates: Carly Booth, Georgia Hall, Carlota Ciganda
Gateway Tour, All Pro Tour, SwingThought Tour
The US has a number of developmental Tours that rank just below the Korn Ferry Tour. The Gateway Tour, based in Arizona, California and Florida, the All Pro Tour and the SwingThought Tour (formerly known as the Hooters Tour) are three of the most popular, although there are many others. Notable graduates: Johannes Veerman, Shawn Stefani, MJ Daffue

Europe Golf Holiday Destinations
The Algarve is a synonym for golf holidays, and Portugal's star attraction has established a remarkable concentration of first-class golfing venues over the past 30 years. Countless European Tour destinations like the UK are strung along the coast, where famous names such as San Lorenzo, Quinta Do Lago and Vale Do Lobo complement the impressive Vilamoura resort, the number 1 destination in Europe. The success of the Algarve has sparked growth on the Lisbon coast, which, thanks to excellent resorts such as Praia D'El Rey and Quinta Da Marinha, is among the best new options on the continent.
Starting on the Costa del Sol , where golfing delights stretch from Valderrama and the east Sotogrande area to the buzzing nightlife of Marbella and the myriad of golf courses, Golf Holidays Spain is an established favourite as Spain has the most recognised and comprehensive golf and leisure resort in Europe in La Manga. While throne pretenders like La Cala, Montecastillo, and Melia Golf Vichy Catalan underline the fantastic options under the Spanish sun. As the development continues, new opportunities emerge, among which the Nicklaus Golf Trail from Murcia stands out; there is little doubt that Spain can satisfy every demand for golf holidays.
Just a short hop away from the channel lies France with its bountiful golfing countryside. Phenomenal courses await at Arras, Hardelot, Wimereux, and St Omer surround the famed vacation resort town of Le Touquet from the easily accessible port of Calais. The Normandy and Bretagne coastlines are filled with golf jewels, while the Aquitaine region is the new star of French golf, further south; Bordeaux is surrounded by the spectacular resorts of Lacanau, Golf Du Medoc, and Margaux, while the Biarritz golf pass blends a series of magnificent courses.
The golfing countryside of Turkey is dominated by the Belek hot spot, just a short drive from Antalya International Airport. The concentration of brand new championship courses and five* resorts in Belek is incredible–head to Gloria, Gloria Verde , Sirene, or Cornelia Deluxe for impeccable customer service levels and excellent facilities. Aimed at welcoming golfers at the resort, Belek is the newest star attraction in the golfing landscape.
