Zoobic Safari Guide 2024: Our Experience, Tickets & Tips

We visited Zoobic Safari in Subic to get up close and personal with wildlife creatures we don’t normally see in zoos and other animal parks like Manila Ocean Park and Cebu Ocean Park . Some Zoobic Safari animals we saw and had close encounters with were bearcats, donkeys, ostriches, pythons, crocodiles, zebras, lions, and of course, tigers!

BUY ZOOBIC SAFARI TICKETS

In terms of land area, the 25-hectare Zoobic Safari is only second to the 170-hectare Cebu Safari and Adventure Park . However, Zoobic Safari is the first and only tiger safari in the Philippines, which is still bucket list-worthy in our books. In fact, our experience here gave us an incredible wildlife adventure we won’t soon forget.

Read on to know more about this huge safari park – from tickets to attractions and friendly reminders.

Zoobic Safari tickets

Zoobic Safari offers different tickets for adults and children. See Zoobic Safari price list below.

Zoobic Safari entrance fee 2024

  • ₱895 for adults
  • ₱795 for children with a height of 3 feet to 4 feet
  • Children below 3 feet are free to enter the park.
  • You will pay ₱20 on-site as a mandatory Environmental and Tourism Administrative Fee (ETAF).

Zoobic Safari opening hours

This Subic safari park is open from Monday to Sunday, 8am to 4pm . Last admission is 2pm.

Zoobic Safari address and how to get there

Zoobic Safari is located in Group I Ilanin Forest, Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Olongapo, Philippines . It is approximately three hours away from Manila. Refer to this Google map to guide you.

To reach the Zoobic Safari location, you can either drive a car or take a bus .

Drive to North Luzon Expressway, then exit in San Fernando, Pampanga. Follow the signs going to Olongapo City. Then, take the Tipo-Subic expressway going to Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Tip: If you don’t have your own car, it would be more convenient to rent a car with a professional driver , especially when you have kids. Just like what we did, the driver picked us up from our house, waited for us to finish the whole safari tour in Zoobic, and brought us back home safely.

RENT A CAR HERE

From Metro Manila, find the nearest bus station with buses going to Olongapo terminal. The most reliable bus line is Victory Liner . It has terminals in Pasay, Caloocan, Sampaloc and Cubao and has an hourly service from 4am to 6pm. Once you reach Olongapo terminal, take a jeepney to Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) main gate. Then, take a taxi inside SMBA going to Zoobic Safari. The regular taxi fare to Zoobic is ₱400 (one way).

Zoobic Safari attractions and our fun experience

Our entire Zoobic Safari tour lasted for about 2.5 hours and we already experienced the following main attractions:

Aetas’ Trail

The first leg of our tour was the Aetas’ Trail , where we were welcomed by a spectacular cultural performance of the Aetas, an indigenous group in Luzon and one of the earliest inhabitants of the Philippines.

Zoobic Park

Our next stop was Zoobic Park , where we saw different species of free-roaming animals including the binturong (bearcats), monkeys, donkeys, deer, ostriches, guinea pigs, and more!

Tiger Safari

Of course, we didn’t leave the park without experiencing the Tiger Safari . We boarded an enclosed tram where the caretaker fed the tigers with raw chicken.

There is an additional fee of ₱200 if you want to see the feeding action first-hand. We were scared at first as the tiger devoured the meat but it was a sight to behold.

Tiger and Lion Close Encounter

Tiger and Lion Close Encounter

If you’re claustrophobic and don’t like riding the enclosed tram, you can still observe the lions and tigers at a close distance in their resting spaces.

Zoobic Safari crocodiles

Huwag mag-loco-loco dito! (Don’t be a fool here!) There are over a hundred crocs awaiting your every move! You can cross a steel-grated walkway with these ferocious creatures below you. You can also buy a quarter chicken for ₱50 to be placed on a fishing pole to feed them. We were too scared to commit a wrong move so we didn’t dare to do any of this.

Serpentarium

Serpentarium

Shhhhhh.. These cold-blooded creatures can’t be bothered. Here, you’ll observe different kinds of snakes like pythons and boa constrictors, and other reptiles such as monitor lizards, iguanas, and turtles.

Animal Show

Since we visited on a weekend, we were able to watch the live animal show where animals showcase their talents and skills. Take note of the animal show schedule which is only on weekends at 10.30am and 1.30pm.

These are just some of the many attractions that await you in here. You may visit their official website to see the complete list of attractions and amenities.

Friendly reminders

  • As you’ll mostly be exploring the outdoors, it’s best to wear comfortable clothes and a good pair of walking shoes.
  • While you can buy food and drinks inside the park, you may want to bring your own drinking water safely contained in a water container or tumbler.
  • Follow the health and safety protocols. There will be an orientation before you start your tour so listen carefully to the staff.
  • Observe proper decorum and cleanliness at all times. Avoid making loud noises that could disturb the animals and their habitats.
  • Do not attempt to feed the animals unless you sign up for feeding activities.
  • Photos and videos are allowed so long as you do not disturb the animals and other visitors.

Zoobic Safari “Wild Adventure” – Subic Bay Freeport Zone

Zoobic Safari is not just about letting you see the animals from afar but is about letting you interact with them as well. From the name itself, it’s clearly a combination of a Zoo and a Safari that is located at Subic Bay Freeport Zone. Seeing the animals freely roam in the wild as you safely travel near their habitat is a fun adventure that is truly memorable.

Zoobic Safari - Subic Bay Freeport Zone - Philippines

You don’t need to go to the Middle East to see a camel or go to India to see a white tiger. Have a pleasant time watching rare birds and other species that are bred and taken good care of in their animal sanctuary. Delight yourself observing the cute and cuddly hedgehogs, fluffy bearcats and the chubby wild boar babies.

Exploring Zoobic Safari

We went here after our tour to the nearby Ocean Adventure . Upon paying the tickets, the first animal encounter you’ll enjoy is a photo op with a white tiger. These are tamed and safe to touch. The guide asked everyone to touch the white tiger then I was instructed to hold a bottle of milk for the tiger to drink. Our son can’t help but cry non-stop at the sight of the tiger.

White Tiger at Zoobic Safari - Subic Bay Freeport Zone

Bird Thrill

Our next stop was the “ Bird Thrill ” which is unquestionably thrilling because of how close you can interact with the birds. I like their setup of putting the birds in a very large cage which has trees and plants inside instead of confining them in small cages.

Bird Thrill - Zoobic Safari - Subic Bay Freeport Zone

It’s nice to see them roam in a much wider space and freely come to our hands to eat. The large-beaked hornbill was just steady and calm when I took its picture. It is really amazing how they’re not afraid of the people coming close to them.

Hornbill - Zoobic Safari - Subic Bay Freeport Zone

Rodent World

This world is not something you’ve seen in thriller movies where a large group of rats overruns a quiet town or a house. The rodents here are adorable, cuddly and are free from any diseases. The hedgehogs were sleeping like rocks when we saw them but the guinea pigs were constantly moving around. There were hamsters and rabbits as well.

Rodent World - Zoobic Safari - Subic Bay Freeport Zone

Various Animals

After stepping outside the Rodent World, we saw more adorable animals like the chubby baby boars and the fluffy bearcats. The large ostriches and the wild boars were in the same cage but are getting along fine. The other animals have their own cages, like the deers and monkeys but my favorite of them all is the camel.

Bearcats of Zoobic Safari - Subic Bay Freeport Zone

So far this is the only place where I’ve seen one. I’ve been to different zoos in the Philippines and some abroad but I never saw a camel. They look so calm, gentle and harmless. I hope that they can add a two-hump camel in the future.

Camels of Zoobic Safari - Subic Bay Freeport Zone

Tiger Safari

Perhaps this is the most thrilling attraction of them all. Riding a vehicle that is flocked by a group of wild tigers seems like a movie scene. The guides have prepared some fresh chicken meats to attract the tigers closer. Some of them even leaped to the jeepney’s roof. You really need to watch out your fingers from sticking out on this one.

Tiger Safari of Zoobic Safari - Subic Bay Freeport Zone

It has this zombie apocalypse setup where the hungry zombies are struggling to bite you as you’re trying to escape. Seeing the tigers all around us was a fun bone-chilling experience.

Aetas Trail

After the Tiger Safari tour, we transferred to a train which took us to the Aetas Trail. Before getting there, we came across different animals running in the wild like in a savannah. Most of them are the same animals that we’ve seen in their mini-zoo but they can roam more freely.

safari subic bay philippines

When we finally reached our destination, we saw a short parade of the Aetas. They later performed a native dance along the beat of the drum. Their curly hair is their most known feature. Zoobic Safari is not just about the animals but is also about learning the culture and way of life of the people before modern times.

This is the last attraction that we visited in Zoobic Safari. A visit to this animal sanctuary is really great for the family!

Educational Field Trip

We wanted to see their animal show and were advised by our tour guide that it will be at 3pm. However, at 2:30 pm our guide told us that the show started early so we could only see the tail end of the show. When we asked why the show's schedule was changed, we were told that our group did not request for a show. What kind of policy is this? Whether you request a show or not, when a show is going to be run and you are there in the park, why not give everyone a chance and choice whether to see the show or not.

My son was amazed with all the animals. They have quite a lot of alligators. The tiger truck trip was cool. We paid P100 for chicken to feed the tigers. They have someone feed them of course. It was quite scary but they all seem to be calm. Nice experience.

We visited Zoobic Safari at the end of our trip before going home. We enjoyed seeing the animals in the free flow tour, tram ride, and tigers jeepney ride. The animal show was also good. The crocodile place was also really good; there were a lot of crocodiles! I wish some of the attractions were more well maintained (ex. in Serpentarium, it is really hard to see inside some of the glasses). Some of the attractions were being improved (ex. petting zoo) so didn't get to experience those either. I hope the Animals are well taken care of. Also hope that the Lion close encounter can have bigger cages for them.

Its worth the money. Educational and truly a nice experience having eye to eye contact with the tigers!

It was a wonderful day how we start the year with our family roadtrip. We actually have limited time in Subic so we choose Zoobic Safari from all available activities in the area coz of the kids. The park is situated inside lush greenery of Subic Bay and so you will really enjoy the nature and animals in the park. We enjoyed the close encounter with the animals and I hope those animals is being well taken care. Park is well maintained, but I believe they should improve the parking space and put more informative info in each of the animal feature as more interested families are visiting now for summer.

This was a fun experience. The entrance fee was about 700/person. You take a guided group tour that lasts about 2.5 hours. The best part of the tour was riding in the jeep and feeding the tigers. You really get to be very close to the tigers. This is only about 15 minutes of the whole tour. My second favorite part was feeding the crocs! You can pay P50 to get a piece of chicken on the end of a fishing pole. Then you swing the food above the crocs and they jump for the food. The rest of the tour you see many different animals. If you want a close experience with tigers, check this place out!

  • Subic Bay Tour Packages 2021

Subic bay is only 3 hours drive from Manila, making it one of the most popular weekend getaway sites among the locals. Wreck diving is the biggest highlight, but Subic also offers a wide range of other attractions and activities. The are is perfect for older people or families, who prefer to take things more slowly and enjoy high-level resorts and services.

Subic is best experienced as a day tour from Manila , but an overnight package is certainly possible as well. Read below to learn everything there is to know about the place, before making your decision. We’ll help you build a custom Subic itinerary that ensures you get the most out of your time there.

How to get to Subic Bay?

Where to stay.

Driving from Manila takes between 3 and 4 hours, depending on traffic. A Victory Liner bus leaves every 30 minutes to Olongapo, the city circling the bay. From Olongapo you can easily catch a taxi or a jeepney, which will take you anywhere you’d like.

Another way to get to Subic is through Clark Airport – only 45 minutes away. Clark Airport is constantly receiving more international and domestic flights, so it could be very possible to catch a flight there and squeeze a day in Subic before heading back to Manila.

Since Subic is such a popular vacation spot, the level of hotels is very high. These resorts are scattered all across the bay, with each having access to its own private beach. However, the beaches near Olongapo are quite disappointing, so keep that in mind. You can still find luxury resorts there, but you’ll probably spend more time at the swimming pool than the beach.

If you are searching for a beachfront resort, you’ll be better off looking at the resorts further away from the city. Most recommended are the resorts in Camayan Beach in the Freeport Zone – near the Safari and Ocean Adventure. Alternatively, you can also head the other way and book a resort at either Baloy Beach or White Sand.

All areas mentioned above have numerous high end resorts and hotels. Since rates here are usually low, finding a cheap accommodation shouldn’t be a problem either. If you are not quite sure which area to pick, all you have to is contact us and we’ll help you decide.

Subic Travel Essentials:

  • Location : Zamables Province in Western Luzon
  • Flights : Clark Airport is only 45 minutes away
  • Bus : The Victory Liner bus leaves Manila from either Cubao or EDSA Pasay
  • Best time to visit : Weather is very similar to other destinations, so the best time is between November and May
  • Attractions : Scuba diving, hiking, Safari, Ocean Adventure, Beaches and water sports
  • Extra tips : The dives here are quite advanced, so check with us first to make sure you have the required qualifications. The Ocean Adventure and Zoobic Safari are great places for families, especially with small children

What to do in Subic?

We have two basic day tour itineraries available, the diving tour and the families tour. Read below to find more details on each, and book the one you like best. You can edit both tours any way you’d like, so you can enjoy the best attractions in Subic.

We also included some additional points of interest in the area, for those of you who are considering an overnight package. No matter which service you book, our experts will help you plan your entire trip to Subic. We’ll make sure you enjoy the best deals and promotions, and spend your time wisely.

Subic Diving Tour

Subic diving boat tour

Unlike the famous wreck sites of Coron or Puerto Galera , Subic is still a hidden gem. It is, however, one of the best wreck diving spots in the world. With more than 15 known wreck sites, and vessels from many different eras, there’s huge diversity for you to discover. Dives vary in difficulty and required training, but generally speaking these are better for advanced divers.

Diving in Subic is great for 2 main reasons. The first is the calm waters, since all wrecks are within the sheltered waters of the bay. The second reason stems from the first – all diving spots are very close to one another. Forget about hour long boat rides, everywhere here is merely 15 minutes away from shore. You can easily squeeze in a few different dives during a single day.

Most wrecks are of Japanese and US vessels from WWII, but there is also a an American steam boat from 1898 and a couple of commercial freighters. With regards to marine life, you can find everything you’ve come to expect from the Philippines. Stunning coral reefs filled with fish, as well as many types of critters and shells. Bull sharks and black tips also frequent the wrecks on a regular basis.

There are more than 10 different dive clubs in Subic, which provide training, certification and the necessary scuba gear. You can get the basic course and advanced courses here, as well as special technical training for the more extreme wreck dives. Dive sites range from 5m (16 feet) to 55m (180 feet) deep, so there are options for divers of all levels.

You can learn how to dive here, with a wide range of PADI and ANDI accredited courses. The wreck dives however, require a more advanced certificate and a specialty technical course. You’ll need to have the advanced open water certificate, before taking the wreck diver specialty course. It’s possible to advance your certificate in Subic itself, but we suggest you arrive here towards the end of your trip instead, before heading back to Manila. It’s much more fun to learn how to dive at other sites, and arrive here with all the necessary skills. Read our guide for diving in the Philippines , and let our experts plan a your diving-focused travel package.

Family Tour Package

Subic bay view panoramic

Our Subic adventure package is perfect for families and couples who are looking for a quick getaway from the city. The main highlights are the Ocean Adventure and Zoobic Safari – Both extremely entertaining things to do, especially for groups. While most western tourists might find these slightly underwhelming, this is still a valid option for a day tour.

The Ocean adventure park is quite big, so you can easily spend a few hours there. The main attraction is swimming with the dolphins, but there are a lot of other activities as well. Watch shows performed by dolphins, whales and sea lions, or visit the petting zoo, the aquarium and fish tank. The aquarium is actually a nice option for people who don’t dive to see a sample of the Philippines’ rich marine life.

Zoobic Safari is a great place for kids and animal lovers. Its huge size and diverse terrain allow for many different type of animals to prosper there. Most exciting is the Tiger safari where you can watch those giant cats from the safety of a jeep. There are live shows and guided tours here, which can be a really nice educational experience.

Another option is to pay a visit to the Pamulaklakin forest trail – only a short taxi drive from Subic bay. The forest is a better choice for those who wish to witness the local wildlife in a natural environment. There are 2 different hikes available, either 30 minutes or 3 hours long. The trail goes through the Pamulaklakin forest and along the river – a nice trek which isn’t too demanding.

How does Subic fit into my travel plan?

The best way to discover Subic is by booking a day tour from Manila, but including it in a larger package can also work well. There are plenty of other Zamables attractions which can be easily combined with a visit to Subic. If you choose to spend a night or 2 in Subic, we really suggest you travel a bit to nearby locations, to make the most of your time there.

Such locations include Mt. Pinatubo – an active volcano and an amazing hiking spot. The volcano is only 2 hours drive away from Subic. Another option is to visit Nagsasa Cove – a real hidden secret not far away. This is a secluded beach, completely transformed by Pinatubo’s eruption in 1991 into one of the most unique beaches in the Philippines.

You can also combine Subic into a larger Manila itinerary , which will include other popular locations such as Tagaytay and Batangas . There’s no need to worry, our travel agents will help you organize everything in the right order. We’ll do everything we can so that you’ll have the most fun and enjoy the best deals and promotions.
