Where to Go for Free Pet Photos with Santa
Even though we’ve had dogs for more than two decades, we’ve only done pet photos with Santa once. A friend was doing a fundraiser for a local rescue and invited us to bring our dogs Oscar and Sadie to take pictures with Santa.
My husband and I ended up sitting with Santa, too. I’m not sure he could have handled having two dogs sit for pictures. Here is the resulting picture.
Stores offering pet photos with Santa
You may be wondering where you can go this year for pet photos with Santa with your dog or cat. Well, the stores I’ve listed here usually offer these photo ops each year.
A few years ago I wrote about stores where you can take your dog Black Friday shopping with you . Many of the same stores continue to be pet friendly and will welcome your pup to shop with you.
Even better, I’ve discovered that a handful are having photo opportunities with Santa with your pet this holiday season. Now is the perfect opportunity to dress your pup in an ugly Christmas sweater .
So where can you take your well-behaved dog to get a picture with Santa? Well, before I get into the details of where to go for photos with Santa, let’s talk a bit about your pets.
Well-behaved pets only, please
It goes without saying that if you’re going to take your pet with you into a store, always have your dog on a leash. Well-behaved, socialized dogs are the best ones to take into stores with you.
And don’t stress too much if your dog has an accident. Many pet stores, which obviously welcome pets, have clean up stations throughout the store so you can clean up after your pet easily.
My dogs have accidentally lifted their legs in PetSmart or Petco. Luckily, there were always supplies nearby to wipe up those accidents.
However, as I’ve come to discover other brands that welcome dogs (as I wrote about in this article), I’ll update this article. Now onto the list of places that will have Santa and will take pictures for you with your pets.
Bass Pros Shops/Cabela’s
You’ll need a timed ticket at Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s (they are owned by the same company) to get your pup a photo with Santa. However, don’t worry about that. It’s easy and it’s free.
Upon arrival in-store at either Bass Pro Shops or Cabela’s, visit the Bass Pass Ticket Depot. You’ll find it located at the entrance of Santa’s Wonderland .
There, you’ll pick up a time-stamped pass. Return to see Santa at the time marked on the Bass Pass to share Christmas wishes and take a photo with Santa and your dog.
Free pictures with Santa are available through Christmas Eve.
Note: if your Bass Pro Shops or Cabela’s serves food, your dogs may not be allowed inside to take pictures with Santa. We learned that about the Cabela’s near us in Scarborough, Maine. Maine food service law prohibits dogs in the store.
Pet Plus Supplies
Pet Supplies Plus is your local pet store carrying a wide variety of pet foods for any pet. Many locations are offering photos with Santa for a donation, with dates varying by location.
Check with your local Pet Supplies Plus store to see if they are participating and when.
Petco photos with Santa
Petco usually announces dates in December for pet photos with Santa. This event is not free but it does benefit a good cause.
That is, in exchange for a donation of $9.95, you can include your dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in the family holiday card.
At the same time 100% of the proceeds benefit lifesaving animal welfare organizations in your local community through the Petco Foundation.
Here’s an update on Petco pet pictures with Santa .
Pet parents and families across North America are invited to attend the free Santa Claus events taking place two weekends in December at PetSmart . This annual event gives pet parents the opportunity to have their pets’ photo taken with Santa.
Pet parents will receive a free digital photo from PetSmart and can snap photos with their own device.
You’ll want to mark your calendarfor the upcoming Paws and Claus Photo Event. That’s PetSmart’s pet pictures with Santa event.
PetSmart’s Paws and Claus Photo Event is 12/16/23 and 12/17/23. Availability by location is subject to change without notice.
Tractor Supply Company
Various Tractor Supply Company locations nationwide are welcoming Santa to the store and your pets, too, to take photos together.
In case you didn’t know, Tractor Supply Company is a pet-friendly store every day of the year.
As far as when you can participate in photos with Santa with your pet, dates vary by location. Some are happening as soon as the first weekend in December. Please check with your local Tractor Supply Company location to see if they will be holding such an event and when.
Santa at the Mall
Guess what? This year you can avoid the lines and book an appointment to see Santa at the mall. And I have a coupon code you can use to get a free 5X7. photo.
Santa is available through Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023. When you schedule an appointment ahead of time, you’ll receive additional benefits. This includes:
- Free phone call from Santa, powered by Portable North Pole
- Lock in the date and time of your choice
- Free access to MyPhoto all holiday season
- Make checkout a breeze onsite
Head to whereissanta.com to schedule photos with Santa at one of 900 participating mall locations in the United States.
When you checkout, don’t forget to use coupon code LOTC for a Free 5 x 7 Print with Package A! This was our free 5X7 below.
Good causes offering Santa photos
Finally, if you can’t make it to any of these stores, keep in mind that many shelters and rescues have pictures with Santa during the holidays. They do this as fundraisers.
In the picture I shared above, my husband and I took our dogs Oscar and Sadie to a local hair salon that had partnered with a nearby rescue. For a $10 donation we were able to take photos with Santa with the dogs one Saturday morning.
So check with your favorite good cause to see if they might be having such an event near you. You’ll likely be asked to make a small donation like we did for the opportunity to take a picture with Santa with your pet.
However, if, like us, you’re already supporting animal-related good causes, that shouldn’t be a hardship. Plus you come away with a really cool keepsake.

Coupon for mall pics does not work
You used code LOTC? It is for one free 5X7, not a free photo session. Hope that helps.

It was part of Package A that we chose when we booked our session.

7 Tips for Taking Your Dog to See Santa Claus
December 5, 2018 By Amanda Leave a Comment
Tips for Taking Your Dog to See Santa Claus
Bringing your dog to do anything out of the ordinary requires positive reinforcement and patience. Being prepared for some outtakes will ensure you have a fun Santa Claus visit.
Bring Treats
The most important tip for taking your dog to see Santa Claus is bring treats! You’ll want to use them as positive reinforcement for sitting on Santa’s lap. You may also need them (or the crinkle of the bag) to get your dog’s attention for the photo. If your dog isn’t food motivated, bring a special toy instead!
Your dog may be curious about Santa’s long beard and red suit. Give your dog a minute to settle in on Santa’s lap before attempting photos. Be patient. If you start to get frustrated or anxious, your dog will feel your energy.
Just Keep Snapping
When your dog is on Santa’s lap, snap those photos like crazy! There may be a professional photographer taking pictures, but use your phone to take your own also. If you snap away, you’re bound to get some amazing shots!
Sit With Your Dog
Your dog may be more comfortable if you sit with Santa also, and that’s okay! Brush your hair, sit up straight, and smile!
Be Prepared for Outtakes
Sometimes the outtakes make for the cutest photos. Enjoy them. Cherish them. Those are memories you’ll always be able to embrace.
Don’t Force It
I learned years ago that Wynston isn’t Santa’s biggest fan, so I don’t force the issue. If your dog isn’t comfortable, is acting scared, or fights back, do NOT force them to see Santa. It will only cause more fear.
Your Dog is Always on the Nice List
Face it – your dog is on the nice list…always. Make sure you tell Santa that your pup has been EXTRA good this year and they deserve lots of treats and toys 😉
Are you taking your dog to see Santa this year? Have you taken them in the past?

31 Places Your Pup Can Meet A Real Life Santa Paws

There is only one man who could make several appearances across the country simultaneously, and it’s not Ryan Gosling on SNL. It’s Santa Claus. And he’s coming to meet your dog, because dogs never stop believing.
Here’s a round-up of stores and cities where Santa will be at, often at the exact same time (because magic), and will gladly hold your totally-not-freaked-out-and-super-cool-about-sitting-with-this-massive-white-bearded-dude pup.
Let’s go!
1. Boofy’s Best for Pets , Albuquerque, NM
Albuquerque’s natural pet food supplier invites all pets and humans to pose with Santa. A $10 suggested donation benefits FAT KATZ , an animal shelter with an indisputably funny name, even for us. (Be warned: Cats are welcome at this event.) December 12– 11 AM to 3 PM
2. Petco , Almost everywhere, USA
Every year, one of the nation’s most dog-friendly retailers holds meet & greets with Santa himself. Find a Petco location near you for a photo op on December 12!
3. Sky Hotel , Aspen, CO
Santa Paws will feel right at home in the snowy mountains of Aspen in the “Sexiest ski lodge in North America” according to Playboy Magazine. This might be on purpose. December 11– 5 PM to 7 PM
4. Barton Creek Square , Austin, TX
Photo packages will be available for purchase. Pets must be leashed or in a carrier. No exotic pets are allowed, in case you planned on bringing your three bearded dragons on leashes to meet Santa. December 13– 8 PM to 10 PM
5. MSPCA Boston Adoption Center , Boston, MA
Boston’s MSPCA annual Pet Photos With Santa gives you a framed photo and four digital images to take home. All proceeds benefit the shelter. December 12 & 13– 9 AM to 5 PM

They specify that only four-legged friends are welcome, but we doubt they will turn away this face . Proceeds benefit the Brewster Shelter of Bawston. December 12– 3 PM to 7 PM
7. Pet Source in Marlborough , Boston, MA
Santa will be posing with pups for a very good cause. All proceeds will benefit Phinney’s Friends , a local non-profit that provides financial assistance to low-income people in an effort to keep them and their pets together. December 12– 11 AM to 3 PM
8. Yorktown Center , Chicago, IL
Pro tip: blindfold your dog until you reach Santa so he doesn’t know you’re in a shopping mall ;). December 13– 7:30 PM
9. The Citadel , Colorado Springs, CO
Santa will welcome well-mannered and friendly pets to sit on his lap at The Citadel. I.e. any of these 18 pups might want to sit this one out. December 15– 6 PM to 8 PM
10. The Dog Lofts (Dec 12), The Velvet Snout (Dec 13) , Dallas, TX
Santa, his elf and his professional photographer will be making memories with your pup all in the name of Dalmatians . December 12– 10 AM to 3 PM December 13– 10 AM to 3 PM
11. Erwin Park , Dallas, TX
If you still have a pulse after seeing the image below, then you might consider making an appointment for a unique opportunity to meet Santa and animal photographer Jenna Regan. Learn more about her project, A Home for Christmas, here . December 13– By appointment only. Click here to make one.
12. Cherry Creek Shopping Center , Denver, CO
“This sounds like there’s a lot going on but I don’t smell anything fun.” -your dog at a shopping mall. December 13– 7 PM to 10 PM
14. The Wagging Tail , Las Vegas, NV
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas unless it’s a dog that you fell in love with and took home. This is what The Wagging Tail is going for with its Christmas Photos + Adoption event. That’s how they getcha. December 12– 11 AM to 2 PM
15. The Grove , Los Angeles, CA
Santa gave pups plenty of chances to take the perfect picture with three consecutive Tuesday appearances. Next Tuesday the 15th will be his last. Don’t miss it. December 15– 6 PM to close
16. Beverly Center , Los Angeles, CA
Note: You DON’T need to be a celebrity or celebridog to sit with Santa at Beverly Center. Santa doesn’t care about fame. Right Santa? Where’s your left hand btw? December 7 through 23– 12 PM to 8 PM December 24– 10 AM to 6 PM

Apparently the Simon Property Group partnered with Santa this year because lots of its shopping centers are welcoming him and everyone’s dogs. Check out all participating locations here . December 13– 6 PM to 8 PM
20. Mount Laurel Animal Hospital , Mount Laurel, NJ
Hospital visits are never fun for anyone, unless you’re going to see Santa. Not like, he’s hospitalized or anything, but that he’s only there to take pictures with your dog. Not because your dog is sick, everyone is healthy, but because it’s the holidays. Anyways, you’ll get a stocking filled with goodies along with your framed photo, so come by! December 19– 11 AM to 2 PM
21. Hotel Palomar , Philadelphia, PA
You may or may not show up with one dog and leave with two, thanks to the adorable adoptable pups from Saved Me that’ll be hanging out with Santa this Saturday, along with hot chocolate, homemade cookies and swag bags. December 12– 1 PM to 4 PM

The happiest visit to the vet you and your pup will ever make. Promise. December 12– 1 PM to 6 PM

26. Raleigh Brewing Company , Raleigh, NC
Puppies, beer and Santa. That’s literally all you need to know. December 12– 12 PM to 4 PM
27. San Diego Santa Run , San Diego, CA
For the more athletic dogs that won’t settle for a photo shoot with a very non-athletic Santa, there’s the San Diego Santa Run. It’s a 5k race in which all (human) participants run in full Santa suits with their dogs. The less ambitious can run in the 1 mile race. Let your dog decide. December 11– 11 AM to 7 PM
28. Fashion Valley , San Diego, CA
Fashion Valley sounds exactly like the kind of place you’d want your dog and Santa posing together in front of a towering Christmas tree before you leave them at doggie daycare and spend way too much money on candles and other home decor. December 13– 7 PM to 8 PM
29. Smitten Ice Cream in Pacific Heights , San Francisco, CA
San Francisco Santa isn’t too fond of cats, sorry guys. But attention all dogs: he wants to meet you. December 12– 11:30 AM

Click here for all the places you and your pup can meet Santa in Seattle!

December 12, 13, 19 & 20– 11 AM to 2 PM and 3 PM to 5 PM

8 Tips for Taking Your Dog to See Santa
By: Chewy Editorial Published: December 5, 2016
Home / BeInspired / Culture / 8 Tips for Taking Your Dog to See Santa
The countdown is on for the big holiday, and part of the fun for many pet parents includes the opportunity to take your dog to visit Santa.
However, before your trip to meet St. Nick, take a moment to check our list (twice!) for these easy tips to make your visit jollier. After all, a trip to visit the man in the red suit is usually one in which everyone—not just Santa—will know who’s naughty and who’s nice by the end of it.
Ask yourself if your dog will enjoy the visit
Let’s face it: Santa can be a little intimidating. If your dog is fearful of costumes or crowds, consider an alternative. Inexpensive Santa costumes can be ordered and, with a family member inside, can create great photo opportunities in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Headed to a store for your pooch’s photo with Santa? Before the big man’s arrival, call the store and ask if they expect lighter crowds early or late in the day. Lighter crowds may be less stressful for your dog and will help him keep his focus during the photo session. You’ll also want to make sure the store you’re planning to visit allows dogs into the area where Santa will be.
Dress for holiday fun
A holiday-themed dog collar lends a festive feel to the photos or, if your dog doesn’t mind clothing, consider a cozy knit dog sweater or fleece holiday coat.
Be camera ready
Groom your dog with a good brushing at home or a session with the groomer in advance of the photo session. Holiday bows or bandanas can be added for an extra special seasonal look.
Walk(ing) in a winter wonderland
Before visiting Santa, give your dog an extra-long walk. A tired dog is going to be more patient in line and better behaved as he waits his turn with other dogs.
Prevent boredom
While waiting to meet Santa, keep your dog occupied with simple commands, such as “sit” and “stand.” Reward your dog’s good behavior with verbal praise and occasional treats if other dogs aren’t nearby.
Introduce your dog to Santa
Just as you’d greet a friend, walk up and introduce yourself to Santa in a happy voice. Let your dog see that you and Santa are on friendly terms, which will help your dog feel at ease and to engage with Santa in the same spirit he sees you interacting with him.
Know what makes your dog look
If a store photographer is shooting photos of your dog and Santa, stand by the photographer to help catch your dog’s attention and encourage him to look at the camera. Many photographers will be able to easily grab your dog’s attention but if your dog is distracted, know what will make him look, whether that’s a dog treat in your hand, a squeaky toy or high-pitched sounds.

7 Tips for Taking Dog Pictures with Santa Paws (from Someone Who Tried It)
Santa Paws is coming to town!
Rachel is an SEO content strategist and writer from Queens, New York. Aside from Daily Paws, she has contributed to sites such as InStyle, Health, Shape, and BarkPost. In her free time, Rachel enjoys exploring NYC with her Pomeranian Sammy, trying new fitness classes, and checking out wineries and hiking trails upstate.
Taking photos with Santa is a classic holiday tradition, and now there are more opportunities to include your pup in the fun. A few years ago, I brought my Pomeranian Sammy to meet Santa at a local event and I truly treasure the photo as one of my favorites. While Sammy is pretty prone to having her photo taken (yes, I'm not a regular dog mom, I'm a millennial dog mom ) there were still a few important steps we took to prep for the event, and some tips I learned from the experience on how to get that perfect holiday photo.
While Buddy the Elf may have claimed that Santa "smelled like beef and cheese," we suspect your pup wouldn't complain much about that. Here are some tips for preparing for your dog to meet Santa Paws and how to get the perfect shot.
Where Can You Get Dog Photos With Santa?
Pet photos with Santa are growing more popular every year as folks (like me!) continue to find fun ways to include their pups in family traditions just like every other member of the crew. Check out popular places in your area for holiday photos like Christmas tree farms and pet retailers. Both Petsmart and Petco often host Santa photo days during the holiday season so check your local store to see if you can snag a spot with the big man himself.
Another popular place for photos with Santa? Animal shelters! Many rescue groups and shelters will use Santa photo opportunities as a fundraiser to raise money for the animals in their care. Check some of your local humane groups and animal rescues and you may find an opportunity to not only get a great holiday photo of your pup, but also help a great cause.
Tips for Taking Your Pup to Meet Santa
1. know your dog's comfortability with strangers.
A crowded location with lots of other dogs and humans can be a stressful situation for even the most socialized of dogs. Make sure to move slowly and stay in tune with your dog's body language . If your dog's ears are pinned down, the tail is in an upright position, or the body is trembling or shaking, it might be a sign that they are overwhelmed or stressed out.
If your pup has a history of being fearful in large crowds or is not a big fan of meeting others, specifically kids and other pets, it might be best to leave Fido at home. If your dog has a bite history , you will definitely want to skip out on this tradition, and maybe stage a festive photoshoot in your living room instead!
2. Familiarize Your Dog With Camera Flashes
A flash could be disorienting to your pup, and many studio photo shoot set-ups have large flash equipment for capturing the best lighting. Practice taking pictures with a flash before your photo shoot day. While at home, take your pup's picture using a flash camera and then give them a treat. Repeat this a few more times and your pup will become more familiar with the flash and will even associate the flash with a prize. Just make sure you have treats on hand when going to meet Santa so the exercise isn't for naught.
3. Bring Your Pup's Favorite Treats
After practicing at home with your dog's favorite treats , make sure to bring a bunch to the photo shoot. These will be helpful in encouraging your dog to look at the camera while posing with Santa, as well as helping to introduce your dog to the guy in the big red suit.
4. Move Slowly When Introducing Santa
Unless you reside in the North Pole, Santa is likely a stranger to your pup. Strangers can be anxiety-inducing in a regular situation, but a strange man in a red suit with a large white beard can be especially unsettling to a dog who has never met the big guy before. Allow your pup to move slowly to greet Santa , and maybe even give Santa one of your pup's favorite treats to build trust.
A Santa who is at a pet meet-and-greet is likely familiar with how to greet a new dog, but make sure to allow your dog to sniff him out first, before immediately tossing him onto the stranger's lap. With enough treats and pats, your dog will surely make a new best friend.
5. Dress Your Pup in Their Holiday Best
Whether your dog is more of a pugly Christmas sweater kind of canine or a Christmas bandana pup, now is the time to dress him up in his holiday finest! Let's be real, this is totally going to be the family Christmas card this year, so allow your dog to show off his best 'fit to all of your mailing list. And if you're hopping in the photo with him, may we suggest a hilariously adorable matching sweater situation?
6. Practice Your Training Commands
Simple commands like "sit" and "stay" are especially useful when taking dog photos with Santa. If you are posing your dog next to Santa while he's sitting on his throne, instruct him to sit, which will have him facing the camera, and then instruct him to stay so that he doesn't immediately come running back to you, his trusted owner. Position yourself behind the photographer or camera with a treat or toy that is especially important to Fido. This will capture his attention and provide a great "happy" face for the photo. And don't forget to treat your pup after for his good behavior!
7. Take Plenty of Candids
If you have ever tried photographing a goofy pup, you likely know that they aren't always the most, ahem, photogenic. Instead of getting frustrated if you aren't capturing the most picture-perfect moment with Santa , keep snapping away while your pup is interacting with his new friend. Most of the time candids are better than staged photos anyways, and this will allow you to really capture your pup's personality!

Hello, I needed to change PetSmart locations but was not sure how to cancel my 1225 NorthLake appointment. Is there a process or will this email be enough?
Thanks Roberta

Best Places For Pet Pictures With Santa
December 8, 2011 / 2:00 PM CST / CBS Chicago
Dogs, all pets for that matter, are family too. And they should be included in on the holiday festivities, including a trip to visit Santa Claus. Santa makes special visits just for pets around the Chicagoland area so you can have your dog or cat's photo taken with him. And on Christmas morning, let them rip open one of their own gifts so they can experience the thrill of a magical Christmas too.
Most local PetSmart stores are bringing Santa in to meet and greet with your pet. While you're there you might want to think about treating your dog to a gift too. Your dog or cat can give a gift to other shelter animals just by having their photo taken with Santa. Five dollars from the cost of the photo will go toward benefiting The Anti-Cruelty Society. A 4-by-6 photograph with a holiday frame costs $9.95 ($8.95 with a PetSmart card.) If your dog is skittish around other animals, this might not be the best place or activity to take your pet.
Sat. Dec 10th & 17th Sun. Dec. 11th & 18th 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Yorktown Center
Have you ever wanted to bring your dog to the mall with you? Now is your chance. Yorktown Mall is hosting a Pet Night with Santa on Dec. 11 from 7:30 – 9 p.m. because pets love Santa too. Pet owners are given the option to get in the picture if they'd like. Pets must enter through the doors at Arcade 5, next to Egg Harbor Café.
Highland Ave. and Butterfield Rd. Lombard, IL 60148 Phone: 630-629-7330 www.yorktowncenter.com
Golf Mill Shopping Center
Every Monday night until Dec. 19 from 5 – 8p.m. the Golf Mill Shopping Center is hosting a pet night so your pet can meet Santa. They will even provide costumes for your pet. You are able to bring your personal camera along granted that you purchase a photo package. Just the meet and greet with Santa though is free.
Northbrook Court
Santa is really making the rounds this year. He'll be spreading holiday cheer Dec. 12 and 19 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Northbrook Court. Your four-legged family members are invited to come and enjoy spreading the holiday cheer with him. Pets are welcome to meet Santa and have their photo taken with him.
Bensenville Park District
For five dollars, you can bring your pet to meet Santa. Your pet will receive a photo and a special treat from the jolly man. They ask that all pets stay on a leash or contained in a box or cage. Participants will receive a time slot upon registration between 7-8:30 p.m. on Dec. 12. The registration deadline for this event is Dec. 10.
