Smashing Pumpkins announce their first full UK tour since 2013

The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer have announced a six-date UK and Ireland tour to take place in June.

The US alt. rock stars will kick off their trek at Birmingham Utilita Arena on June 7, and visit London, Dublin, Glasgow and Manchester before wrapping up the tour at Cardiff Castle on June 14. Eagle-eyed fans may notice that this tour puts both bands in Europe right as the summer festival season kicks off, so it's not off the cards to imagine we might see Pumpkins and Weezer playing in a few fields around these dates.

This will be the Smashing Pumpkins first full UK tour since 2013. Weezer last visited the UK on Green Day’s Hella Mega stadium tour in 2022, which also featured emo icons Fall Out Boy . The dates will come one month after Weezer’s self-titled debut album, commonly known as ‘The Blue Album’ celebrates its 30th anniversary. See the full list of tour dates below.

For reasons unknown, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan’s wedding to designer Chloe Mendel was covered in minute detail in Vogue last month. For those who care, Billy’s wedding ring is white gold with filigree and a pigeon’s blood ruby and Chloé’s is a hexagon cut diamond with emerald and diamond baguettes.

“The after-party, nestled back in our cherished home, featured late-night poker, truffle fries, and endless laughter,” Chloe Mendel told Vogue . “It was a culmination of love, family, laughter, and the promise of a lifetime together—a testament to our enduring love story.”

As a result, they’ve sold over 30 million albums worldwide and collected two GRAMMY® Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award. Good news for fans of The Smashing Pumpkins ! The American alternative rock band, still led by Billy Corgan , is preparing to hit the road again in 2024.

While the famous Chicago-based band will be playing alongside Green Day and Rancid in the U.S., The Smashing Pumpkins are planning to hit the roads of Great Britain and Ireland with Weezer. But that's not all. The leading rock band of the '90s has also announced a series of other dates on the Old Continent, including in France, as part of its " The World is a Vampire Tour". Join us at the Accor Arena in Paris on Sunday June 16, 2024 to (re)discover some of The Smashing Pumpkins ' legendary songs live. In addition to the French capital, the American band will also be making stops in Hanover, Berlin, Luxembourg, Italy and Portugal.

If it had not been for the love, respect, and talent of the Pumpkins, the entire night would have been trash. A certain entertainer from across the pond is just a mirage of an oasis since splitting with his brother, but he made matters worse. From his first interactions with the crowd and everyone after, he made it a point to belittle the community, state, and fans with "F" bomb laden disparaging remarks. His condescending attitude oozed from every pure of his being. Hemade completely clear from comments such as the first of his set, 75% of his set, was "fucking for him" and "buy his fucking merchandise because he isn't making a dime just fucking performing there," made it evident that he truly was a wretched person consumed by greed and former fame. His parting shot was "fuck Rogers, fuck Arkansas, we're never fucking coming back to this fucking state again!" May he have a safe, expensive, and miserable stay and trip back from Arkansas and the United States.

Best concert ever! The band was on fire, Corgan and Iha are a surprisingly good comic duo, the setlist was incredible with songs spanning all their career and surprise numbers like a Rolling Stones cover. The stage was magic, with giant puppets and light shows that really made the evening seem like something out of a dream.

The location is small and collected and the sound was PERFECT, contributing to the atmosphere: it seemed like an evening with friends, the gods descending between men to share stories and emotions.

I didn't see Smashing Pumpkins lately. I saw them at the Arlene Schnitzer Auditorium in 2016 and the show was great but I didn't buy the tickets. I had a dream while napping the afternoon of the show telling me, I need to go up to the box office at the Schnitzer with $80 and see if I can get tickets. At that time I was listening to Siamese Dream everyday and finding for the first time so long after it was released I was amazed. We got to the box office and they were sold out so a guy in line was watching the whole thing and offered an extra ticket he had because his girlfriend didn't want to go and then another guy about 15 people back said basically the same thing, so I had 2 tickets for free for me and my date. It pays to listen to your dreams " Siamese Dream's" that is..

The Smashing Pumpkins Announce 2024 Tour

They will also take part in Europe and North American stadium performances with Green Day, as part of The Saviors Tour

Expanding an already stacked schedule, two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning iconic rock band  The Smashing Pumpkins  reveal a string of new North American headline performances in 2024. In addition to a combination of arena and headliner festival dates in Europe and North American stadium performances with  Green Day , as part of  The Saviors Tour , the band added additional solo arena bookings that span July through September. This new run of dates kicks off on July 31 in Muskoka, Ontario at Kee to Bala, rolls through markets such as Kansas City, Cedar Rapids, St. Louis, and concludes on September 27 in Las Vegas, NV at Fontainebleau. Plus, they will close out Osheaga Festival as one of the headlining acts in Montreal, QC on August 3. 

Tickets for the new dates will be available starting with an artist presale beginning Tuesday, April 2 at 10am local time. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general onsale beginning Friday, April 5 at 10am local time at  https://smashingpumpkins.com/tour/ .

The Smashing Pumpkins  continue firing on all cylinders live. During 2023, they headlined and curated their very own  The World Is A Vampire Tour  joined by  Stone Temple Pilots  and  Rival Sons , while 2022 saw them canvas North America on the  Spirits On Fire Tour  alongside  Jane’s Addiction . A spectacle of eye-catching stage production and a setlist sequenced like a film with moments of heavy guitar catharsis and transcendent melodic singalongs, their shows have consistently incited widespread critical applause.  NME  professed,  “it’s indisputable that the band are responsible for many of the ’90s’ best rock songs, and this is as good as you’re going to hear them . ”  Meanwhile,  The  Patriot Ledger  proclaimed,  “[The] Smashing Pumpkins proved they are still one of America’s most interesting – sometimes befuddling, but never boring – musical groups.”  Miami New Times  attested,  “the band took the audience back in time to when alternative music was the mainstream, and the idea of browsing on your phone during a fantastic concert was bad sci-fi satire.” 

Last year,  The Smashing Pumpkins  completed the three-act trilogy  ATUM , releasing the 33-track project in its entirety. The Smashing Pumpkins  are currently in the studio recording the follow up to  ATUM  as they prepare to release new music this year.

The Smashing Pumpkins are one of the most iconic, iconoclastic, and influential bands of all time, shaping alternative music and culture. Since forming in Chicago during 1988, the group have sold over 30 million albums worldwide and garnered two GRAMMY® Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award. SMASHING PUMPKINS announce new summer North American headline tour dates

The Smashing Pumpkins ' packed 2024 just got busier.

Already booked to play arenas and festivals in Europe and to rock North American stadiums opening for Green Day on The Saviors Tour, Billy Corgan and Co. have now added a slew of solo arena shows in the U.S. and Canda. The new dates kick off on July 31st in Muskoka, Ontario, and wraps up September 27th in Las Vegas.

Tickets for the just-announced shows will become available starting with an artist presale launching Tuesday, April 2nd at 10 a.m. local time. Additional presales will run throughout the week, with the general onsale beginning Friday, April 5th at 10 a.m. local time at smashingpumpkins.com/tour .

The popular Instagram guitarist will tour the world with the alt-rock legends from June 2024

At the beginning of 2024, the Smashing Pumpkins damn-near broke the internet when they announced a worldwide open audition for an additional guitarist to replace the outgoing Jeff Schroeder , resulting in 10,000-plus applications ( this writer included ). Today, the alt-rock icons announced their new touring guitarist: Kiki Wong.

Wong is one of Instagram’s foremost shredders, with 674k followers to her name. She has performed with Taylor Swift, Usher and Bret Michaels, along with notable rock bands including Nylon Pink, Hellfire Heart, and currently, Vigil of War.

Along with a pool of finalists, chosen by frontman Billy Corgan, she auditioned in-person for the touring guitarist spot last month in Los Angeles, and ultimately won out.

Unlike Schroeder, who she replaces, Wong is being billed strictly as an “additional touring guitarist”, rather than a fulltime member of the band. She joins the core SP lineup of guitarist/frontman Corgan, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, and the live lineup of Jack Bates ( bass ) and Katie Cole (guitar, keys, vocals).

“Reviewing the work of these incredible musicians was a herculean, albeit worthy effort,” said Corgan. “First off, I really want to thank everyone who submitted materials for consideration. It wasn’t an easy decision with how much great guitar playing we were lucky enough to hear and see over the past few months.

“I was a fan of Kiki’s before she submitted her name to be considered – and it’s great that someone of her acumen will be part of our touring family. I can’t wait to hit the road with Kiki as part of our mad circus. It’s definitely an exciting moment for The Smashing Pumpkins to be this busy with touring in 2024. We’ll see you all this summer!”

“It’s been an absolute wild ride, but I am beyond honored and humbled to be chosen to perform alongside some of rock's greatest and most influential musicians of all time,” said lifetime Pumpkins fan Wong.

Wong’s first show with the band will be at Birmingham Utilita Arena on June 7 during their co-headline tour with Weezer.

The guitarist relayed her guitar journey so far to Guitar World last year , particularly the influence of heavier styles.

“I remember the first time I got into metal,” she recalled. “My brother is 20 months older than me and has always been one of my biggest role models. When I was 12, he showed me Metallica, and I was in awe of Master of Puppets . I hadn't heard anything like it before, and it completely rewired my mind. I knew I had to learn it, but let's just say it took a few more years to get it right [laughs].”

The Smashing Pumpkins put out ad on social media for new guitarist

CHICAGO (CBS) -- You don't need pink ribbons scars that never forget.

You don't need to go down where the crickets learn to sing and play.

You don't need to be cool and cold, like old Job.

You don't need to care to shake these zipper blues.

You especially don't need to notice that this is not the first time we've done this with Smashing Pumpkins lyrics.

But you do need to know how to play guitar – if you want perhaps to play the songs from which those lyrics are paraphrased, right along with Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin.

That's right, the Smashing Pumpkins announced Friday that they are looking for an additional guitarist. Guitarist Jeff Schroeder left the band in October after 16 years.

The band posted a message on Instagram saying the application process for a guitarist is "open to anyone who might be interested."

Applicants are asked to submit a résumé and related materials to [email protected] .

Corgan and Iha are also both guitarists. They first formed the Smashing Pumpkins along with drummer Chamberlin and bass player D'arcy Wretzky. Other members have come and gone over the years – and the group disbanded altogether in 2000, only to re-form six years later.

While Corgan – a Highland Park resident - has been the only constant, original members Iha and Chamberlin have been back since 2018. Jack Bates and Katie Cole play bass and keyboards, respectively, on tour with the group.

The Smashing Pumpkins are going on tour this summer – beginning with the World Is a Vampire tour through Europe in June and July. The tour will begin in Birmingham, England, and end in Athens, Greece, and will also feature Weezer.

The Smashing Pumpkins will also be a supporting act on Green Day's The Saviors tour through the U.S. and Canada, along with Rancid and The Linda Lindas. This tour – in late July and August – will include a stop at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Whether the new guitarist – whoever he, she, or they may be – will be asked to be part of those tours was not specified in the social media job ad.

After receiving over 10,000 applications in their nationwide search for a new guitarist , the Smashing Pumpkins revealed Friday the newest member of their band: Social media-famous guitarist Kiki Wong .

In January, the Pumpkins announced an open audition to fill the vacancy left by departing guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who had a 16-year tenure with Billy Corgan and company. Just two weeks later, the band said they received so many applications that it required “eight people working full-time to review each and every one.”

“Reviewing the work of these incredible musicians was a herculean, albeit worthy effort. First off, I really want to thank everyone who submitted materials for consideration,” Corgan said in a statement Friday.

Wong will likely make her debut with the band this summer as the Pumpkins — whose touring lineup is now Corgan, Wong, founding members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, keyboardist Katie Cole, and bassist Jack Bates, son of Joy Division/New Order’s Peter Hook — embark on a lengthy stretch of live dates that begins with a European tour with Weezer on June 7 in Birmingham, England. In late July, they’ll  return to North America for the Saviors stadium tour  alongside Green Day, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas.

Smashing Pumpkins reveal new guitarist after receiving over 10,000 public applications

The Smashing Pumpkins have revealed their new guitarist after receiving over 10,000 public applications to fill in the spot.

At the beginning of the year, frontman Billy Corgan launched a search for an additional guitarist  and anyone interested was encouraged to apply. The call for guitarists generated over 10,000 applications. The position came up after longtime guitarist  Jeff Schroeder announced that was leaving the band last October.

After narrowing down the applications, a small group of finalists auditioned for the position in person in Los Angeles last month. The iconic alternative rock band chose veteran session musician and Youtube sensation Kiki Wong as their new guitarist.

Wong has performed with Taylor Swift at the 2014 VMA’s,  Usher at CBS’s Fashion Rocks Fall 2014 and was the lead guitarist for Bret Michaels in a commercial for Nissan. She has also performed with rock bands Nylon Pink, Hellfire Heart, and currently, Vigil of War.

The veteran guitarist has 210,000 subscribers on YouTube, 1.3million followers on TikTok and 667K followers on Instagram.

Speaking about choosing Wong as their new guitarist in a statement, Corgan said: “Reviewing the work of these incredible musicians was a herculean, albeit worthy effort. First off, I really want to thank everyone who submitted materials for consideration. It wasn’t an easy decision with how much great guitar playing we were lucky enough to hear and see over the past few months.”

The Smashing Pumpkins has been an iconic alt-rock band for decades. And now the group has added a new member to help them carry on for decades more.

“The news you have been waiting for has finally arrived,” the band announced on social media last week. “SP is excited to officially welcome highly-skilled veteran guitarist Kiki Wong. Kiki joins the band’s touring lineup of Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha, along with mainstays Jack Bates and Katie Cole.”

The band said in January it was seeking a new guitar player after Jeff Schroeder announced his departure from the group in October.

The Smashing Pumpkins put out a public call for an additional guitarist in January, and in less than two weeks, they announced they received more than 10,000 submissions for the job – so many that eight people were “working full-time to review each and every one.”

Wong’s arrival to the group comes after she played guitar for the Los Angeles-based rock band, Vigil of War. Her passion for music started when she was just 6 years old, she says on her website , when she started taking classical piano lessons. At 13, she got her first acoustic guitar that her father purchased from Costco, and in the years after, she joined “countless garage bands” and also learned how to play the drums.

Once she got her pre-med bachelor’s degree in biological science at the University of California, Irvine, Wong says she decided to commit to music full-time with all Asian-American girl band Nylon Pink. Her career has only blossomed since.

“It’s never too early or too late to follow your dreams,” Wong says on her website. “…With music, I want to break the barriers of genres and stereotypes. I want to clash styles and make them one. After all, we only have one world. We might as well unite it with music.”

Her music became so popular that Smashing Pumpkins co-founder and lead singer Billy Corgan says he was a fan of hers “before she submitted her name to be considered.”

“It’s great that someone of her acumen will be part of our touring family,” Corgan said. “I can’t wait to hit the road with Kiki as part of our mad circus.”

The band is headed out on an international tour this summer, kicking off in the U.K. in June before hitting the U.S. and Canada from July through September.

Wong said the process of joining the band has been “ an absolute wild ride .”

“I am beyond honored and humbled to be chosen to perform alongside some of rock’s greatest and most influential musicians of all time,” she said. “I never thought little ole 15-year-old me playing metal guitar in my bedroom would amount to this moment. It goes to show hard work and perseverance truly pays off if you’re willing to push through the tough stuff,s o never lose hope out there.”

Wong, who is of Korean and Chinese heritage, joins The Smashing Pumpkins at the start of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

“Being in the rock and roll/heavy metal industry as an Asian American female isn’t easy,” she said in a 2021 interview with Asian American Pacific Islander Musicians . “I’ve received a ton of hate from people who judge me for being who I am. Though it may seem like a setback, there have been so many more positive feedback and support than negative.”

“I grew up in a 92% Caucasian community with very little exposure to other Asians besides my own family. It was difficult understanding my identity and where I fit in at such a young age,” she added. “I hope to see more young emerging AAPI musicians who want to keep rock and roll alive. I hope that I can help inspire them to go against the grain of what we’re told we’re supposed to do and feel safe to creatively express themselves through music and not feel judged.”

Veteran rock band chooses female guitarist, social media influencer as newest member

C HICAGO – The Smashing Pumpkins, a veteran alternative rock band that has performed for more than three decades, has selected a muscian and online content creator to be its next guitarist.

Kiki Wong was one of 10,000 guitarists who applied for the job as part of a public casting call. The band announced in January it was seeking a new guitarist with the departure of Jeff Schroeder, who had played with Smashing Pumpkins for 16 years.

“The news you have been waiting for has finally arrived,” the band announced on Instagram . “SP is excited to officially welcome highly-skilled veteran guitarist Kiki Wong. Kiki joins the band’s touring lineup of Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha, along with mainstays Jack Bates and Katie Cole.”

Smashing Pumpkins formed in 1988 in Chicago. The band broke up in 2000, but re-formed six years later. The band has tour dates scheduled for this summer in the United States and Europe with Green Day and with Weezer.

Wong , 35, is a Chinese and Korean American who is a social media influencer. Her TikTok account, Kiki: Daily Metal Guitar Riffs , has more than 1.3 million followers. More than 700,000 people follow her on Instagram.

Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan said in an Instagram announcement the band was lucky that so many great guitarists had sought to join the band. “I was a fan of Kiki’s before she submitted her name to be considered — and it’s great that someone of her acumen will be part of our touring family.”
